Produced by Mara Isaacs , Dale Franzen , Hunter Arnold , and Tom Kirdahy , Hadestown is the most honored show of the 2018-2019 Broadway season. In addition to the show's eight Tony Awards including Best New Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, it has been honored with four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical.
The acclaimed new musical is by celebrated singer-songwriter and Tony Award winner Anaïs Mitchell and developed with innovative director and Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin . Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical: writing the music, lyrics, and book, and is the fourth time in Broadway history a woman has accomplished this creative feat.
The show opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway (219 West 48th Street, New York) on April 17, 2019, where it played sold out houses nightly before performances were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hadestown resumed performances September 2, 2021, as one of the first musicals to reopen on Broadway where it continues to play today. The North American Tour opened at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on October 15, 2021.
The show originated as Mitchell's indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.
Following two intertwining love stories - that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone - Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell's beguiling melodies and Chavkin's poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
The creative team features Tony Award winner Rachel Hauck (set design); four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Krass (costume design); two-time Tony Award winner Bradley King (lighting design); Tony Award winners Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (sound design); Chita Rivera Award® and Obie Award® winner David Neumann (choreography); Liam Robinson (music supervision and vocal arrangements); Tony Award winners Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations); Ken Cerniglia (dramaturgy); and Stewart/Whitley (casting).
Hadestown electrified audiences with its 2016 world premiere at New York Theatre Workshop, which is the longest-running show in that celebrated theater's 40-year history. The production then received its Canadian premiere at Edmonton's Citadel Theatre in 2017 and then a 2018 sold-out engagement at the London's National Theatre. Hadestown was developed with funding from the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and was further developed by The Ground Floor at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Hadestown was co-conceived by Ben t. Matchstick .
The Grammy-winning Hadestown Original Broadway Cast Recording is now available at Hadestown.com/music . The album is produced by David Lai , Sickafoose, and Mitchell on Sing It Again Records.

‘Hadestown’ is positively heavenly — from its brilliant score to its haunting tale and powerhouse cast
When the entire cast lets loose on the irresistibly rhythmic “way down to hadestown,” you’ll want to follow them to the depths and back..
The Tony Award-winning “Hadestown” reimagines the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice amid a blues-infused score.
T Charles Erickson
Looming dread and jubilant hope exist side by side in “Hadestown,” the scorching, stunning eight-time Tony Award-winning musical inspired by an ancient Greek myth. That juxtaposition of opposites — dread and hope, joy and despair, abundance and scarcity — makes the musical by Anais Mitchell (music, book, and lyrics) and developed with director Rachel Chavki, both unmistakably timely and irresistibly entertaining.
With a mesmerizing, blues-infused score and masterful storytelling, “Hadestown” follows the rough outline of the aforementioned myth: Eurydice (Morgan Siobhan Green) is perpetually hungry and struggling as she roams the world. She’s ground down by the Fates (Belén Moyano, Bex Odorisio and Shea Renne) until, starving and exhausted, she falls into the clutches of Hades (Kevyn Morrow), King of the Underworld.
As Eurydice’s lover Orpheus (Nicholas Barasch) embarks on a hero’s quest to save her, he’s forced to examine his belief that people and gods are fundamentally good. At the mercy of the tyrannical, angry King Hades (Kevyn Morrow), Orpheus watches in anguish as the underworld king transforms a world of light, warmth and plenty to one of bleak, lifeless winter. Hades’ Queen Persephone (Kimberly Marable), meanwhile, revels in rebirth, springtime and the verdant abundance — except for the six months of winter when she’s trapped underground.
The narrator for this imaginative, reconstituted tale of scarcity and abundance is Hermes (Levi Kreis), the fleet-footed messenger god. Flanked by an onstage band, Kreis helps the ensemble spin the story with vivid images and spectacular vocals. Mitchell’s score spans at least four octaves, from the sub-basement velvety growl of Hades’ “Hey Little Songbird,” (Morrow is as irresistible as a morphine drip) to the heights of Orpheus’ delicate, piercing falsetto (delivered with spun-glass clarity by Barasch).
As Eurydice, Green creates an eminently recognizable character struggling to simply hold her own in a harsh world. Lured by the promise of Hadestown — where jobs in King Hades’ vast foundries and furnaces are always available and food is never short — Eurydice reluctantly takes her place in the underworld.
Kevyn Morrow stars as Hades (left) and Morgan Siobhan Green (right) stars as Eurydice in the North American tour of “Hadestown.”
T Charles Erickson Photo
That sets Orpheus off on his hero’s quest, which is made richer and deeper by the story of King Hades and Queen Persephone, lovers eons beyond the dewy-eyed youth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
A chorus of “workers” (Lindsey Hailes, Chibueze Ihuoma, Will Mann, Sydney Parra, and Jamari Johnson Williams) surrounds and propels the action: In the lower depths of Hades’ vast Underworld, choreography and chorus create searing images of endless, repetitive, manual labor, the work of people shoveling coal into the maw of a furnace or hacking away in a sunless mine.
Yet for all its unmistakably intense themes, “Hadestown” is no dismal slog through an existential crisis about whether good or evil dominates the worlds of gods and mortals. It is a joyful, percussive, gorgeously sung and beautifully told pair of love stories. Like all love stories, they are ultimately tinged with loss.
Kimberly Marable stars as Queen Persephone in the North American Tour of “Hadestown.”
Marable’s Persephone is radiant throughout. She’s a playful, charismatic goddess with verve and smarts to spare, coupled with an authority that’s as regal as it is stone-cold intimidating. Persephone is also not to be trifled with; in numbers such as “Our Lady of the Underground,” Marable makes that brilliantly clear. And when she warns of the rising seas and destruction caused by Hades’ endless industrialization, it’s with prophetic, Cassandra-like intensity.
Tony winner Rachel Hauck’s set evokes the balconied architecture of French Quarter Louisiana and a bottomless abyss where souls are swallowed by clanking, hissing, massive machinery. Bradley King’s Tony-winning lighting design frequently beams spots straight out at the audience, creating a disorienting glare that intensifies the peril of Orpheus’ journey.
And in David Neumann’s inventive choreography, “Hadestown” veers from the soaring, joyous energy of a sundrenched, old-time revival meeting to the convulsive insistent rhythms of miners swinging their pickaxes with Sisyphean despair. Michael Krass’ costume design is gorgeous: Quicksilver messenger Hermes is resplendent in glimmering, silver brocade. Persephone blooms with greens and oranges above Hadestown, is wrapped in funereal black below.
Director Chavkin keeps the pace worthy of Hermes. And when the entire cast lets loose on the irresistibly rhythmic “Way Down to Hadestown,” you’ll want to follow them to the depths and back.
Nicholas Barasch stars as the lovestruck Orpheus in “Hadestown.”
VICTORIA K Unveils The Story of “Persephone” Off Forthcoming Sophomore Album “Kore” October 2022
July 23, 2022 EvilG Progressive Metal 0
Australia’s Victoria K will be releasing the sophomore album “Kore” this coming October via Rockshots Records to follow the highly praised 2020 debut album “Essentia”.
Offering up progressive symphonic sound, “Kore” was specifically written to provide a full orchestral experience that drives people through a sonic journey of growth and grandeur.
“We wanted to take a new approach with this record and to grow our sound and bring something new to Victoria K. Incorporating sounds from our vocalist’s ethnic culture and heritage is something we are so extremely proud of! A concept album is something we really wanted to explore, and we are so excited to bring you this ancient story and create a sonic experience and journey for all our listeners. We cannot wait to share this new stage of Victoria K!”
“Kore” explores modern-day issues through the Homeric Hymn to Demeter (the story of Persephone). Victoria K conceptualized the idea for the album with her producer Lee Bradshaw and then spent many months researching and analyzing the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, even meeting with experts of the Homeric Hymns from Greece. The story was then broken up into its different parts where Victoria Knight wrote the lyrics and developed the melodies for each section of the tale, exploring the myth from a modern perspective.
The tracks were written specifically to encapsulate the various sections of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter and tell the story chronologically through each song and the music grows in intensity throughout the record capturing the emotional state of Persephone and other characters as the story progresses.
The various instruments on “Kore” were then written by Victoria around the lyrics and further enhanced and developed through the production process. Lee Bradshaw then finalized the songs by writing orchestral scores for each song, which were recorded live in Europe, before the final mixing and mastering.
Today, Victoria K shares the first single “Persephone” to preview what’s to come from the album, adding in further detail:
“ This song came to us as different sections. For example, the riff was a separate idea, then the chorus and so on. We found that all these sections coincidently just fell together. The name ‘Persephone’ comes from the same person that the album does. Persephone is the name that ‘Kore’ took on when she became queen of Hades, meaning bringer of destruction. We wanted to then play with this idea in the music in this song, constantly switching from the softer melodic sections to the heavier aggressive sections. This is to portray the two minds that Persephone would be in. This song has come to be our favourite on the record, we feel like it encapsulates our sound and energy!”

Why travel to Moscow
Contrasts: 12th century monasteries and some of the tallest skyscrapers in Europe can be found side-by-side in this complex and captivating city. The diversity of this mega-city is astounding. Only a few steps away from the solemn red facade of the Kremlin and the sounds of righteous church bells, a buzzing night scene and alternative-fashion boutiques can be found.
Culture: In Moscow only the best goes. Be it a theatre, restaurant or gallery, the standards are certain to be world-class. The Bolshoi ballet company is reputed to be even better than the Mariinsky’s and “MMOMA” (Moscow’s museum of modern art) exhibits works of art as profound as any that could be found in the famed MOMA.
Convenience: Unlike the rest of Russia, it’s easy enough to get by with just English in Moscow and, driving excepted, it is surprisingly safe: the murder rate is lower than in some of America’s major cities.

If there is such a thing as an antidote to boredom, Moscow City is it. The mind-boggling range and diversity of things to do, places to eat, parks, historical monuments and more means that a vacation in Moscow has a wealth of activities to offer for every type of traveler, from young families to retirees.

The Bolshoi theatre is familiar to almost everyone as Russia’s grandest theatre, but what people don’t know is that there are many more bolshoi (big) sites in Moscow that are worth travelling all the way to Moscow to see. For more than 100 years, the world’s biggest bell has been hidden behind the Kremlin’s walls and inside Moscow’s main park (which is bigger than some countries!) there is the world’s largest outdoor ice-rink. Travelers that visit Moscow can stay at the Izmailovo, Europe’s biggest hotel, then eat at the largest and most historic McDonald’s in Europe and after that have fun at the largest European indoor theme park!
Ancient Past & Stunning Architecture:
As those who travel to Moscow will see, just because Moscow is a city of record-breaking, glitzy high-rises doesn’t mean that there is no history. On the famous Arbat street, time-worn, wooden storehouses and century-old churches are squashed up against grey, soviet blocks which are then towered over by 21st century office-blocks. Unlike its much younger sibling, St Petersburg, Moscow’s roots stretch way back to the 12th century. Within the walls of the Kremlin, the city’s oldest building the Cathedral of Assumption can be admired in all its 500+ years of age.
Culture & Convenience
For a foreigner who has never visited Russia, Moscow is the perfect stepping stone into this great land of mystery. From the country’s best classical ballet troupes to snow-white troikas trotting through the parks, all the highlights of Russian culture can be had in Moscow without any of the complications that would be expected in other, less developed regions of Russia.
Cheap as Caviar
In Moscow, everything is bargain when with the current foreign exchange rates being what they are. Even caviar doesn’t seem so dear when the exchange rate is at 60rub to the dollar, so go on indulge yourself! Take your 2022 vacation in Moscow and have the best of both worlds, with European luxury at very affordable prices.
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.
We had a great time both in Moscow and St Petersburg. Your travel agency was excellent in coordinating the whole trip. Everything worked like clockwork. The guides assigned to us were very nice and friendly. They had a great knowledge of their subjects. The cars and the drivers were great. The hotels were good and the itinerary was good. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. It was nice dealing with you and your company. Thank you very much for a great Russian experience. Have a great future ahead

Amy Grant on the 2022 bike wreck that 'changed everything' and her return to touring
It was a beautiful summer day in July of 2022 when Amy Grant and a friend went on a bicycle ride through Percy Warner Park. She was in the best shape she'd been in since before she had kids.
The singer and friend Mel Cox stopped to take in an overlook when she confided to her friend that she needed to make change in her life.
"I feel spread so thin," she told Cox that day. "I feel like I'm not giving the most energy to my family."
Cox responded, "If you were hit by a bus today, what would matter to you?"
She responded, "My family."
Ten minutes after that conversation, Grant's front bicycle wheel dropped hard into a four-inch deep pothole, sending her catapulting over her handlebars and into an unconscious state that would result in a traumatic brain injury and memory loss. Had it not been for her helmet, the outcome could have been worse.
The only reason Grant remembers any of the pre-wreck conversation is because Cox took the time to write down all the details of the day for Grant when she was ready to read it. It was nine pages of text that Grant didn't read until much later.
Another detail Cox shared with Grant (who still has no memory of that day) was what she said in her hospital room shortly after the wreck.
Cox told Grant that she kept saying over and over in the hospital, "I can't believe I still have all my teeth." Grant had landed on her face and was badly bruised. Then she said something unbelievable.
"I needed this."
The accident, as Grant said during our interview at her home earlier this month, "changed everything."
'I had to re-learn the words to my songs.'
Grant had to relearn how to sing. She had to relearn lyrics to songs she's been singing effortlessly for decades.
"The very first thing I did was I had the Christmas shows with Michael W. Smith," she said. "I couldn't remember... I had to re-learn the words for my songs. I had a teleprompter. My balance was messed up. I was scared to death. I tried to sing a song in soundcheck and it triggered tears and I couldn't stop them. I felt so vulnerable."
She didn't get much more recovery time before having to appear on a national stage as she was being inducted as a Kennedy Center honoree — just five months after her accident.
"I couldn't have done it if I'd had to sing," she remembers. "I'd done a handful of shows and each one felt better, but I did feel like I had worked my way on a treadmill up to about a 3.5-mile walk and I was merging onto the interstate."
It was the understanding of Grant and her longtime manager Jennifer Cooke that there would be no singing or speeches at any of the events. Then at the medallion dinner at the state department the night before the ceremony, each honoree got up with notes to speak.
"Jen is looking at me like, 'dear God, you've got to say something," Grant said, laughing.
"They told us no written speeches," Cooke remembered. "I'm like, she has a freaking brain injury and she has to get up and speak. She has nothing prepared."
What happened next would set the trajectory for Grant's continued healing and recovery. She stood in front of the crowd with no notes and no preparation and spoke just like she would have before her accident.
"She couldn't have written something in advance better than what she said," Cooke said. "It was beautiful and powerful and I remember thinking 'It's ultimately going to be OK.' That makes me cry to this day because during those few Christmas shows, it felt a little different and then that happened and I was like, 'OK. She's still there."

'Wiggle your toes and speak your truth'
Grant credits Cooke and fellow musician Sheryl Crow with some sage advice that helped her get through the nerves of that impromptu speaking engagement. Remember, among her fellow honorees in the room were George Clooney, Gladys Knight and U2.
Cooke said to Grant before her speech, "Wiggle your toes and speak your truth."
Grant, who can't remember what she said that night, said years ago when she was preparing to speak at her mother's funeral, she told Crow she was afraid she would get choked up while speaking. Crow's response was this: "I'm going to tell you what my mom told me. Wiggle your toes. Just wiggle your toes and it will ground you in the moment that you're in."
Cooke reminded Grant of this before her speech at the Kennedy Center dinner. It worked.
"I did that that day and I tell people all the time, 'if you have to present, whatever it is, if you start getting overwhelmed, just wiggle your toes.' I give the credit to Sheryl."
Trauma can manifest change and recovery takes time
The bicycle accident isn't the only thing Grant has had to overcome in the last four years. During COVID she discovered a birth defect in her heart that required open-heart surgery. In 2022, the bike accident required her to have a shoulder surgery. Then while re-training her voice, her vocal coach noticed a lump on her throat that would ultimately also require surgery right after the Kennedy Center Honors in January of 2023.
The cyst turned out to be non-cancerous, but was growing and affecting her vocal chords. She considers this just another blessing that came from the bike accident, which sent the cyst into "hyper growth" mode so it was discovered and remedied early.
"That cyst was keeping company with my vocal cords and was slowly making it impossible for me to hold pitch to sing. It felt like too much work. Singing wasn't fun anymore. I was trying, but I hated the way I sounded. The sound my vocal cords would make when they rubbed together was the same, but my ability to control it was awful."
After the wreck brought the cyst to her attention and it was removed, Grant said, "It gave me my voice back. How amazing. I'm so grateful for that."
Grant's husband Vince Gill said of Amy, "It didn't matter if it was a heart surgery or a bike wreck, you can't faze her. She's fearless every step of the way. It's pretty inspiring to watch. She's always had that aura around her that's contagious. It's remarkable."
Today Grant is learning to embrace the process of healing and recovery, which she has learned doesn't happen overnight. Both take time and she's taking life a little slower to make sure she creates space to heal. After all, isn't this exactly what she needed when she confided in her friend before the wreck?
"I'm going to enjoy the process of regaining balance. I'm going to enjoy the process of healing. And like for me with singing, my vocal coach Laura said you've got to strengthen the little tiny muscles in your vocal folds. And she said, pick any low note and see how long you can hold it. I went from getting to 'three Mississippi' and now I've got 'eight Mississippi.' The human body is incredible in response to attention."
'The View from Here'
In February of 2024, just two years after her accident, Grant embarked on a 33-city tour that will hit Nashville's Ryman Auditorium for two shows just in time for Mother's Day on May 10-11. It will be the first time in 25 years Grant has headlined a Nashville show outside of her annual Christmas residency at The Ryman.
The show has been billed as a walk down memory lane through her remarkable career. Contemporary Christian music's female pioneer's proverbial mantle of awards boats a whopping six Grammy Awards and 26 Dove Awards (including four Artist of the Year Awards). She was the first CCM artist to have a platinum record, the first to hit No. 1 on the pop charts and the first to perform at the Grammys.
She has total career album sales in excess of 30 million and over 1 billion global streams. And she isn't done yet.
She has released two new songs “Trees We’ll Never See,” and “What You Heard” that she says will ultimately be part of an entire album she will call "A View From Here" even though its title track has yet to be written. It's her first new music in 10 years.
"So much of my touring life is singing old songs. That's what people want to hear. You can't recreate your musical past. And I love that people still are willing to buy a ticket, and they want to come and join us, and they know the words. But the view from 63 is a lot more in-depth. At this stage of the game, to me it's so much more meaningful to fall in love with the process. You know, if I fall in love with the process of cooking, it doesn't matter who is at the table."

2024 Zurich Classic leaderboard, scores: Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry among leaders after Round 1
Mcilroy and lowry headline a crowded leaderboard as the competition moves to foursomes for friday.
There aren't many firsts left for Rory McIlroy to achieve in his PGA Tour career, but he checked one off the list Thursday at TPC Louisiana. Making his debut appearance in the Zurich Classic, the 34-year-old looked like the seasoned veteran he is alongside Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry. The two fired an 11-under 61 in the four-ball format amid the windy afternoon conditions to sit with the teams of Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard, Aaron Rai and David Lipsky and Ben Kohles and Patton Kizzire atop the leaderboard after Round 1.
While this week marks McIlroy's first attempt at claiming the PGA Tour's annual team event, it also represents his 11th start of the year as he continues to play through some relative early season struggles. McIlroy had no issues in the first round as he drove the ball beautifully, struck towering iron shots and picked apart the par-72 layout in unison with Lowry.
"You know that you sort of need to get off to a good start, and thankfully we did," McIlroy said. "We were 4 under through 4, which was really nice to see, and from there you've got some momentum and you're just trying to keep it going. But for the most part today, we kept both balls in play. We were having two looks basically on every hole at birdie, and that's the way you need to play better ball. Everyone thinks it's maybe a bit more gung ho than that, but as long as you have two balls in play off the tee, two balls on the green, I think you're always going to do pretty well in this format."
The two began their days with four birdies out the gate and tacked on a couple more to turn in 6-under 30. A birdie on No. 10 was followed with a disappointing par on the par-5 11th, but that did nothing to dampen their spirits. McIlroy struck his best iron of the day into the 12th when he feathered an 8 iron against the wind and to tap-in distance.

Lowry picked him up on the very next hole with a birdie of his own to get the team to 9 under and added another on the difficult par-3 14th to get to double digits under par. With four holes remaining, the two appeared likely to overtake the clubhouse lead, but a couple middling pars to go along with one last birdie on the par-5 18th meant there will be four teams sleeping on the lead tonight before the competition transitions to foursomes on Friday.
Let's take a look around the rest of the leaderboard after the first round in Louisiana.
The leaders
T1. Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry, David Lipsky/Aaron Rai, Ryan Brehm/Mark Hubbard, Ben Kohles/Patton Kizzire (-11)
Outside McIlroy and Lowry, the top of the leaderboard is surprising, to say the least. Hubbard has notched a couple top 20s, a top five and has yet to miss a cut this season while Rai has been solid, but the rest of the lot haven't seen the weekend with much consistency. Hubbard's teammate, Brehm, has seven missed cuts in 11 starts. Rai's teammate, Lipsky, has missed eight cuts in 11 starts and is without a top 40. Kizzire has six missed cuts and a withdrawal in nine starts, and Kohles has six missed cuts and a withdrawal in 11 starts. Four-ball can hide deficiencies, but the same cannot be said for foursomes, which will be played Friday and Sunday.
"Just like usual, we ham-and-egged it," Hubbard said. "I don't think either of us were feeling amazing about our games coming into the day, but we just feed off each other really well. We relax each other out there, and best ball is just a fun format. I didn't putt great last week, but he had a lot of holes where he snuggled it up there nice and close for par and it really freed me up. You just kind of get confidence that way, and I think even you watching me make some putts gave you confidence and you poured them in at the end."
Other contenders
T5. Davis Thompson/Andrew Novak, Thomas Detry/Robert MacIntyre, Cameron Champ/MJ Daffue (-10) T8. Sam Stevens/Paul Barjon, Garrick Higgo/Ryan Fox, Luke List/Henrik Norlander, Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith, Zac Blair/Patrick Fishburn, Marc Meissner/Austin Smotherman, Callium Tarren/David Skinns, Keith Mitchell/Joel Dahmen (-9)
Detry and MacIntyre got off to a dream start by playing their first four holes in 4 under. After hitting a lull, the two turned it on and carded six back-nine birdies to shoot 10-under 62. MacIntyre has the team experience from this past fall's Ryder Cup, while Detry has been enjoying a very solid 2024 campaign. The staying power of all these teams on this leaderboard is interesting given the volatility of foursomes, but the two Europeans should be up to the task.
I think it's about leaving each other to it," MacIntyre said regarding Friday's strategy. "We're both good players, both know what we're doing with the golf ball. It's just trusting each other. If I hit a good shot, you hit a good shot. If you hit a bad shot, don't say sorry, you're not meaning to do it. You just keep walking forward and keep trying to hit good shots and committing to them and see where we end up. Can't really do anything about it. It's difficult because you might not hit a 5-foot putt until the 17th hole. It's completely different. All you can do is try your best."
2024 Zurich Classic updated odds, picks
Odds via Sportsline consensus
- Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry: 13/5
- Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay: 10-1
- Aaron Rai/David Lipsky: 15-1
- Thomas Detry/Robert MacIntyre: 16-1
- Andrew Novak/David Thompson: 16-1
- Nick Taylor/Adam Hadwin: 18-1
- Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith: 18-1
- Joel Dahmen/Keith Mitchell: 20-1
Let's roll with the 2022 champion at 10-1. Schauffele and Cantlay burned a ton of edges on Thursday but kept themselves in it with a late flurry of birdies. They now transition to foursomes for two of the next three days where they were dominant a year ago. In 2023, the two fired a 9-under 63 in Round 2 and a 6-under 66 in Round 4 in this format. If they card something similar in the mid 60s tomorrow, they should be in business heading into the weekend.

Celine Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022 and is opening up about how she’s learning to live with the rare autoimmune neurological disorder.
In a new interview, the Canadian singer discusses her health and says if she’ll return to touring.

Celine Dion Makes Surprise Appearance At The Grammys Amid Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis
She continued, “Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy. I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?”
Dion says she doesn’t have the answers as to why she got this illness and she only has two options, “Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”
The “My Heart Will Go On” singer says that it’s her family, children, and fans that keep her strong and is grateful she has the means to have good doctors and treatments, adding, “I have this strength within me. I know that nothing is going to stop me.”
Since being diagnosed with SPS, Dion has been largely kept out of the public eye. In February of this year, she made a surprise appearance at the Grammys and presented an award to Taylor Swift .
When asked about getting back on stage and touring again, Dion said, “I can’t answer that… Because for four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready… As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months’ [I will return]. I don’t know… My body will tell me.”

Rafael Nadal Nets First Top 20 Win Since 2022 With Victory at Madrid Open
- Author: Tim Capurso
Rafael Nadal defeated world No. 11 Alex de Minaur 7–6 (6), 6–3 in the second round of the Madrid Open on Saturday, earning his first ATP Tour victory vs. an opponent ranked inside the top 20 since November of 2022.
Nadal, 37, at times showed flashes of the form that helped him win 22 Grand Slams in his career. The Spaniard had his signature, lefty forehand-down-the-line shot working well, in addition to his crosscourt backhand, which he fired for winners multiple times.
Nadal, with a raucous crowd behind him, won a thrilling, 77-minute first set in a tiebreak, then quickly broke de Minaur's serve to grab a second set lead he would not relinquish.
When told during a post-match interview that it seemed like "the old Rafa Nadal was back," Nadal pushed back on the notion.
Are we beginning to see the return of the old Rafael Nadal? 🤩 @RafaelNadal #MMOPEN pic.twitter.com/cKrwHWYYmN — Tennis TV (@TennisTV) April 27, 2024
"No, no, no not yet," Nadal said with a laugh. "It needs time, and I think for moments have been good level of tennis. I was able to do positive things but still on and off."
Nadal missed nearly the entire 2023 season after requiring surgery on his hip, an injury that had the decorated tennis pro pondering retirement going into 2024. On Wednesday, Nadal would not fully commit to playing in the French Open, a tournament he has won a record 14 times.
If he can maintain the form he displayed Saturday while staying healthy, it's likely he'll be on the court at Roland Garros when the French Open begins on May 20.
