What is travelpirates last minute vacation website.

Sure, planning vacation weeks or months ahead of time can be a fun and exciting experience; it can also sometimes be a surefire way to find the best deals on airfare, lodging, and vacation packages. But one of my favorite ways to travel is to put together a trip at the last possible second. When you have traveled as much as I have in my life, sometimes working towards finding the best last-minute travel deals can be a fun way to challenge yourself. Having all but mastered the art of scoring the best prices on travel accommodations ahead of time (it’s all about booking at precisely the right time of year, day of the week, and time of the day), lately I am all about chasing the thrill of last-minute travel.

Of course, waiting to book a trip at the last possible second isn’t always a choice. Sometimes life just throws you an opportunity that you would be a fool not to take. Maybe your company asks you out of the blue if you could travel overseas to secure a business deal. Maybe a friend has an extra plane ticket to Hawaii that departs tomorrow – all you need to do is book an affordable room and it’s yours. There are countless circumstances that could lead to last-minute, spontaneous travel. No matter what, though, you always want to be prepared.

Last-minute travel, whether you love the thrill of it or hate the potential stress of it, undeniably has a reputation for being less affordable and far from ideal within the general public. This is precisely why you see so many people booking flights sometimes a year or more in advance, thinking that doing so is the key to getting the best prices. This is, however, not necessarily the case. More seasoned travelers know well that it can sometimes pay to procrastinate or to be an impulsive traveler. I’ve gotten some of the best deals on airfare of my life by being willing to fly standby, as well as by taking advantage of some of the unbelievable deals that I have seen on last-minute travel sites .

The early bird gets the worm, they say, and this may be true in many cases. But it is also true that, once in a while, the late riser gets everything that the early bird left behind. And if you are anything like me, chances are you’re more likely to put off doing things like booking a hotel, renting a car, or finding a flight. This is why we are very lucky that sites like Travel Pirates exist, to hook us up with all of the best last-minute travel deals available on the web.

Who owns the TravelPirates website?

Travel Pirates, originally a German company called Urlaubspiriten, was founded in 2011. Since then, it has steadily grown into one of the best travel sites on the web, especially for last-minute travelers like you and me. From its main cove (if you will) in Germany, the company began expanding in 2012, first into the United Kingdom, where it became known as Holiday Pirates. The following year, in 2013, the company’s reach grew to Italy and Austria, Piratin Viaggio and Urlaubspiriten launched, respectively.

The company’s steady and swift expansion did not stop there. In 2014, new regional Holiday Pirate imprints were made available in the Netherlands, Poland, and France . 2015 saw the company move into Spain and Switzerland, as well as a big professional step in the form of a white label affiliation deal with popular travel company Kayak. Then, finally, the company grew into the United States in 2016, when Travel Pirates as we know it launched.

Today, in 2021, Travel Pirates enjoys over 800,000 subscribers to its newsletter, 10+million Facebook fans, and more than 10 million downloads of the site’s mobile app. Travel Pirates has gone from a humble travel site in Germany to a worldwide phenomenon in the online travel booking space, with millions of travelers that rely on the service every year.

However impressive they may be, numbers alone, of course, do not make for the best last minute travel site on the web. There are many factors to take into account before we can discern whether Travel Pirates is, indeed, the best travel site for you. Does the site actually have the best last-minute travel deals? Is the interface user-friendly and intuitive? Are the site and app features-rich?

Well, there is only one way to discover the answers to these questions. And that is to take a closer look at Travel Pirates and everything that it has to offer. Does this site have enough booty to plunder, or is it time to let it walk the plank? Hop aboard the ship, matey, and let’s see what Travel Pirates has to offer.

Is TravelPrates Legitimate?

My first impression upon visiting Travel Pirates is that the site is fairly easy to navigate, sleek, professional, and dynamic. This last-minute travel site wastes no time in providing its most impressive deals – a design feature that is critical, no doubt, to a site that specializes in last-minute travel. Time is of the essence, and Travel Pirates makes sure that you can dive right in without delay by presenting a banner-style gallery of 3 deals (a mixture of flights and stays in popular destinations like New York City, Seattle, and Morocco .

Scroll down a bit and you will find a very intuitive and easy to use search bar to quickly filter out what the site shows. Simply select a category if you like (flights, vacations, cruises , hotels, other), type in from where you are traveling, choose your destination, and pick a date range for your trip. Then just click “filter” and watch the site instantly transform to fit your parameters. Instead of bringing you to a secondary ‘search’ page, I particularly appreciate how Travel Pirates brings the search results to you. Less clicking back and forth between pages is always better in my book.

The only time you will have to click into another page is when you find a travel accommodation that catches your eye. Click on it to be redirected to a page containing trip or stay info and plenty of pictures. Overall, as far as last minute travel sites go, Travel Pirates offers a pleasantly easy to use and noncomplicated site design.

How good is Travel Pirates website for booking Last minute travel vacation?

Travel Pirates is pretty close to a one-stop shop for all of your last minute travel needs. Book flights, hotels, cruises, experiences, browse vacation packages, and compare travel deals directly on the site. Travel Pirates even has regularly updated and well-written blog posts to help inspire you with potential destinations, as well as read up on travel tips and tricks.

There are a couple downsides to Travel Pirates, though, that might knock it out of the running for best last minute travel site in the minds of some. One major issue that I take with Travel Pirates, for instance, is the fact that accommodations and flights cannot be booked on the site itself. Although this is fairly common, the best travel sites, in my opinion, do provide a means for booking from them directly. Instead, you will have to close the deal on whatever third-party travel site it came from.

Another understandable complaint with Travel Pirates is the fact that information on each deal is somewhat limited sometimes. Deals will often come with plenty of pics, but certain specifics can be missing. Most deals, for instance, only come with a very short paragraph detailing what to expect. Travel Pirates, once again, leaves the third-party site from which the deal came a heavy burden to shoulder.

Does TravelPirates have an app?

On a more positive note, though, Travel Sites is definitely one of the most mobile-friendly last minute travel sites out today. With native apps available on both iOS and Android devices, you never have to miss out on a great deal. Combine app push notifications with personalized WhatsApp messages and it’s like having the world’s best travel agent in your pocket at all times.

The app, too, is one of the highest-quality travel apps on the market today. It offers a smooth and intuitive interface that makes browsing the best travel deals as efficient as it is enjoyable. But don’t just take my word for it, of the 8,400 reviews on the Apple App Store, the iOS app has received an average user rating of 4.8 (out of 5), making it one of the highest-rated travel apps that I have ever seen.

No matter where in the world you happen to be, the Travel Pirates mobile app makes it easier than ever to book your travel accommodations, even as your plane is touching down in your destination city.

Suggestions that I have for TravelPirates

Since the site doesn’t actually book its flights and deals directly, it might not be the most practical suggestion in the world, but I would like to see Travel Pirates implement some sort of loyalty or rewards program, perhaps in conjunction with a site like Kayak. If I book my flights and hotels on Travel Pirates several times over, winning them hundreds of dollars, it would be nice if there was some sort of frequent traveler perk (discounted rates, incentives, etc.) for repeat customers.

What I Like about Travel Pirates

-Simple and user-friendly interface for searching deals

-Easily compare competing deals on the site

-Mobile push and WhatsApp notifications

-Great travel tips, tricks, and inspiration on the blog

What I Dislike about Travel Pirates

-Cannot book directly on the site

-Somewhat limited info on deals

-No rewards or loyalty program

Ahoy! TravelPirates Brings the Best Travel Deals!

MGD 1458

TravelPirates has all kinds of ways for smart travelers to save on airfare and more

By Kayla McMillan

Calvin Iverson of TravelPirates.

Live the pirate life with these cheap flights and travel deals. That’s TravelPirates.com .

These days, it’s not cheap to travel; and many find that it’s crucial to find the best price for their destination.

TravelPirates.com , a site popular in Europe since 2011 but relatively new in the U.S., curates and presents an

ever-changing assortment of low-priced flights, hotels, packages, and even rental cars. TravelPirates is a free-to-use travel search website and smartphone app.

TravelPirates has a team of “deal hunters” who find, organize and present what they believe are the best deals on flights, hotels, and vacation packages.

Good Values

MGD 1458

In Europe, it’s one of the largest travel portals, with nine million Facebook fans and 10 million app downloads. On HolidayPirates.group, the company states, “To satisfy our customers and offer them a unique value proposition tailored to their needs, we constantly develop and expand our product portfolio.

Not only do we search innumerable websites for cheap flights, hotels and travel packages, we also look for vouchers, bus and train deals. In addition, through our partners’ solutions, we provide thousands of offers from well-known tour operators and airlines.”

In a sense, the big online travel agencies (OTAs) are competitors, yet TravelPirates shows packages from major providers like Expedia, Cheap Tickets, Hotels.com and Priceline (as well as 140 vacation packages and 700,000 hotels) are shown for click-through for booking. While many sites offer search and booking, it’s the ‘hand-picked’ deals that keep customers coming back to TravelPirates.

BookingDeal01 US V1

TravelPirates has also curated an email newsletter that they call the ‘ message in a bottle. ’ This newsletter contains the most popular hand-picked deals for the week. Currently, the newsletter has 800,000 subscribers in hopes of travel deals and diverse destinations.

Newsletter deals included a week cruise to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas from $428. Another deal was for a round trip, nonstop flights to Barcelona for six-night including hotel starting at $549!

Five nights in Aruba from $580 with nonstop flights, Airbnb, and car. Flights to Dublin for St. Patrick’s Day starting at only $264 round trip. Eight nights in a Bali Bungalow from $703. These are just a few of the thousands of deals you could find when you visit TravelPirates online or through the app.

TravelPirates stands out by using a combination of smart travel search technology and human curators who provide users with unbeatable prices for destinations previously considered unreachable on a budget.

Naturally, there’s an app for TravelPirates too! Available on iOS and Android, this app showcases a feed with the latest travel deals curated in real-time by the company’s team of deal hunters.

This easy-to-navigate platform allows users to customize a deal according to their own preferences with the touch of a finger. Inside this app, users can filter departure locations, destinations, and travel periods for their specific vacation needs. Additionally, once a profile is curated, users can allow push notifications that deliver tailored deals straight to the mobile device as soon as relevant offers become available.

TravelPirates' website makes it easy to navigate!

This app isn’t difficult to navigate, but in case help is needed, users can find a video demonstrating the app on YouTube.

In addition to curated deals, the app’s “Booking” page features flight and hotel price comparisons as well as a vacation booking engine, which allows users to secure discounted rates when booking a hotel bundled with a flight.

Since the company launched in the U.S. in 2016, TravelPirates has been finding deals users could not find themselves, including error fares – pricing mistakes airlines and hotels make by accident.

See what Senior PR Manager Calvin Iverson has to say about TravelPirates.com

What makes TravelPirates different from other travel sites like Expedia and Kayak?

A lot of people ask me this question, and I can break it down in a few ways:

Value vs. cheapest fare Unlike algorithm-based travel websites, we don’t just serve you up the cheapest fares. TravelPirates employs a team of deal hunters who use our own proprietary travel search technology to identify whether a deal is a great value – for example if a flight is a significant percentage less expensive than the historic or average price for that route.

For example, other websites might recommend a flight from the U.S. to Thailand with ridiculously long layovers simply because it’s the cheapest flight. TravelPirates only features deals that our deal hunters have determined are a great value for your money – and your time! We hunt for deals that would appeal to the typical American traveler looking to save some money on their trip and not waste too many vacation days in transit.

We always assess each deal independently to ensure that not only the price is right, but also that the quality also meets our expectations. We only recommend trips that we would be happy to book ourselves.

Travel alerts

On the TravelPirates app , we have an amazing feature. You can enable push notifications and then set up travel alerts for your favorite destinations. For example, if you know you want to go to Paris and you’re just waiting for the right deal to show up, you can save yourself a lot of time by setting up a travel alert for Paris. As soon as our deal hunters find a great Paris deal, you’ll get a notification sent directly to your phone.

Enable push notifications on the TravelPirates app to set up travel alerts for your favorite destinations!

One-stop-shop vs. specialty in just one category

We find the same cheap flights that you would expect from various flight deal newsletters, but also find the best hotels, vacation packages, and more. Sometimes we’ll feature ground transportation or even entertainment like tickets to a residency show in Vegas. We’re much more of an all-in-one solution than other travel websites. Free vs. fee-based TravelPirates is completely free to use, no membership required. Some other travel deals websites require a membership or a recurring payment to see the “best” deals. We treat all of our users equally.

We’re as millennial as it gets.

With over 10 million fans on Facebook, we’re the most popular travel company on social media in the world. We have a dedicated following of millennial travelers and we take care to find the experiences millennials are most interested in. A lot of other travel companies focus on an older demographic.

What is the comparison like to other travel engines like Expedia and Kayak?

A lot of the deals we find are actually bookable on Expedia/Kayak. When you book a trip you find on TravelPirates, we send you to trusted booking partners like these websites to complete the transaction.

travelpirates homescreen

Most people go to Kayak or Expedia when they already know roughly where and when they want to go somewhere. TravelPirates is more of an inspiration source – we do that searching for you and serve you the best value deals available.

When you search on Expedia and Kayak, it’s easy to think that the cheapest option is the best option. We research airlines and hotels extensively and always recommend the best option, which oftentimes is not the cheapest.

Many avid-travelers are constantly checking their favorite search engines for cheap hotels, flights, and packages. As you start planning your next adventure, will TravelPirates help you with your hunt for the perfect destination?

Try Travel Pirates for yourself.

Basically for NYC users only

This used to be my favorite app for the last few years. I would find myself checking it several times a day, and I have scored some pretty great deals. Unfortunately, few months ago they shifted their focus mainly on departures out of NYC. They also don’t seem to be bothered with people’s feedback asking them to go back to including other, major cities like they used to. Will be looking for a new app, unless they go back to the old structure in the immediate future.

Developer Response ,

"Ahoy there pirate! While we have many deals that run out of NYC and California, we do still have plenty of packages that depart from all over the country! We encourage you to continue checking the app as well as our new website at www.travelpirates.com to search the latest hot deals from all over the country. Kind Regarrrds, The TravelPirates Team"
Because we often spend hours trying to find and plan the perfect vacation, then wind up not planning anything at all. This app makes booking a quality trip so much easier ♥️

Great app however,

While the app works well, once you click on the deal and attempt to scroll through the dates/locations and prices it becomes overly sensitive that it opens the browser link before you can begin scrolling. The moment I touch the screen to try and scroll after getting off safari from it being automatically opened to go back to TravelPirate, it thinks I select whatever date and opens the browser again. Highly annoying and upsetting.

reviews on travel pirates

Hi has anybody used holidaypirates.com please. They seem to have some very good bargain holidays but wondered if anyone could provide feedback having used them. Would be very grateful for any comments. Thank you Jackie

' class=

Would you really trust a company with "pirates" in their name? Especially with all the problems people talk about on this forum.

' class=

I booked via them for 4 flights to Florida this July with Thomsons for a stupidly cheap price for school holidays.

The deals that come up are very random, they could be for next year, or to a strange destination, or from a Scottish airport, but you just need to keep your eyes peeled and keep scrolling on their site, there are some amazing deals to be found!!

reviews on travel pirates

Holiday Pirates arent a booking company - they just tell you how they found it so you can do it all yourself.

Tripadvisor staff removed this post because it did not meet Tripadvisor's forum posting guidelines with regards to family-friendly language and/or subject matter.

' class=

John M: I don't have any experience with this particular 3rd party OTA, but many of them do not have LIVE pricing and many work through additional layers of suppliers/providers and other OTA's. Therefore, they can advertise it, but when you book - it's always higher. In many cases, people will send them money (credit card details) for prices that are not live, and think they have completed the transaction. Then, only to later find out the OTA wants more $$$ or the deal is unavailable and they are offered a substitute. I agree - stay away. If it seems too good to be true, it likely is.

The airline sites can be trusted to have live pricing and it's extremely rare to get a similar nasty surprise fromt hem.

' class=

I'm an absolute fan! Sometimes it's just good for an inspiration also :)

' class=

It's an affiliate website. They advertise deals and get commission when you buy something after clicking their links, even if the advertised deal is no longer available.

So far, so good dealing with them, for as long as you have read the T&A and check all the things needed before the transaction completes.. That is how online transactions works.

Honestly my favorite app I have

I never write reviews, but TravelPirates has helped make my travel plans so much easier. I love the notifications about random price drops, and it also truly helps make travel affordable and actually possible!

Great app however,

The moment I touch the screen to try and scroll after getting off safari from it being automatically opened to go back to TravelPirate, it thinks I select whatever date and opens the browser again. Highly annoying and upsetting.

App not working

App crashes when i try to scroll down to see other deals. I am on iOS 14. On IOS 13 it used to work fine. I really like your app and check it out regularly for deals. Let me know when you fix the issue and i’ll update the review to 5 stars.

I love TravelPirates! The only down side is that deals for Latin America barely even show up. I don’t just want to travel to Europe and that seems to be their focus.

By angelikahays

Great website

I like that website for all my booking needs all my flights I did find here

Great app....but too many glitches

I live TravelPirates! It’s perfect when you want to travel on a budget. But since the update TravelPirates keeps glitching. I’ve had to delete and reinstall TravelPirates twice. Can we please get this fix so I can keep enjoying TravelPirates !

By pyneyshit

Duplicate notifications

Ever since the last update I have been receiving two notifications for the same thing at the same time

By Eyecandy304

Only downside for me is there are hardly any deals out of Atlanta which is the busiest & largest airport, so I don’t really understand that. My niece was lucky enough to book a trip to Paris from Atlanta for dirt cheap. Please find more deals from Atlanta

By Caicaismom

Some filter updates

Can we get one of the filters to be a home airport. Also can we get the filter to only allow so many miles from destination entered.

By ImRuss247

what happened??

so TravelPirates was great about posting deals from various cities across the US. i’ve book trips thanks to the deals posted here... but recently, the past few weeks/months its only showing deals out of New York... pretty useless to all other states. soon i will be deleting TravelPirates and looking for a replacement. PLEASE FIX

By mmd92624

Been on several Travel Pirates trips....

Been to Belgium, and Italy, and headed to Nee Zealand next month. I’ve had the best experiences finding reasonably priced trips that fit my schedule!

By pissedoff frustrated

Not the greatest

This site has many limitations and unless they have a deal that may or may not apply to one’s situation, the rest of the selected deal are not any better, if not much worse, than other sites with one exception, the site is not user friendly at all.

The best travel agency!

I love this app, this travel website have great sales to many places . I always helps me a lot when I’m planing vacations.

By piraterobert3

Poor features

I like the website and the concept of TravelPirates but some things are just not intuitive like why can’t I just create an alert with the given departure airport only. I just want to get all alerts if a deal is available from ATL.

By Shopaholic___

Prayers Answered

I have been waiting for TravelPirates so I can get alerts quicker. One of the best travel apps keep up the great work!

By mamamiathree

Once you choose a destination you’d like to explore it is difficult to scroll. No matter where I put my finger it takes me to another page instead of scrolling. Quite irritating.

It’s a great site with great deals. Would love to see more personalized offers based on where I am located. So more flights out of San Francisco.

Great for finding travel deals

Great for finding travel deals. I think people think they're selling travel, but they just review deals from other people. If you understand what they do, you'll love it.

Use for all my holidays

Use for all my holidays. Been to New York, Florida, Rome, Belgium, Portugal, and Turkey from the website. Can sometimes take effect booking flights, hotel and pick up services individually but it keeps costs down. Just bare in mind price will go up from the one advertised but normally not by a lot if you don't mind unpopular flight times etc

90% of the offers fly from London…

90% of the offers fly from London airports…. Honestly, the UK is not just London. No option to filter these offers out… as probably that would give just a few results.

Reply from HolidayPirates

Thanks Mickey, we're quite a small team so the number of deals we can review is limited, and often the lowest rates are from London. If you click through on any of our reviews you can often see what the price would be from your nearest airport.

Fantastic website

Booked a weeks holiday via your website (Facebook) and was very sceptical about it. However it was a very smooth process and was very easy to add or remove optional extras. Also had some fantastic prices. Very easy to change dates. Fantastic website for finding bargain deals.

Date of experience : 20 November 2017

Booked a holiday through holiday pirates/love holidays. I double checked all the names when booking, only to find my confirmation has the incorrect surname. The system has changed all the surnames to the same surname, which would have been fine however my maiden name is on my passport not my married name. Calling the airlines and I am told I have to purchase a new ticket to get the name changed! Absolutely mortified as it isnt my fault. Was just trying to book a nice family holiday. From other reviews, it is clear that this error occurs more often than not

Date of experience : 09 October 2023

Thanks Amber, you mention your booking is with Loveholidays so you'd need to address it with them if your info was added incorrectly. We just review travel deals and legally have no access to any bookings you make with travel companies.

Kind of upset

Kind of upset. I bought holiday through holiday pirates via lastminute.com. Later on I did find out that if I actually bought it myself through lastminute.com it would have been £300 cheaper then to go through holiday pirates. So using this page actually did cost me £300

Date of experience : 18 January 2023

Cumbersome, time-wasting search engine which never refines down to your requirements with any accuracy e.g. you want to fly only from LGW? Well, here are flights from Stansted, and on dates you don't want. Destination and other refinements are also equally flaky and totally unhelpful. Feel exhausted after getting absolutely nowhere!

Too good to be true?

Hi guys! Ahoy! I just wanted to let you know I booked & had an AMAZING holiday through Holiday Pirates & the company ‘Affordable Luxury Travel’ to San Fran/ LA/ Las Vegas in Sept/ Oct this year. I must admit I was mega skeptical at first about it being a sham/ scam/ fraud type vibe because legit; how could it be that good and be true, right? But, to our surprise it was one of the best holidays we have ever done and as I had moved down to working P/T (cheers zero working hours contracts!) it was truly affordable. I would never have been able to afford such an amazing holiday without you guys sending me the info on WhatsApp so THANK YOU! Cheers & thanks for the pirating! Lindsey 🤓

Date of experience : 11 November 2019

Ahoy Lindsey! Your message makes us so happy here on the Pirate Ship! We strive to make everyone able to experience amazing holidays in their favourite locations! It's great that you found the perfect fit for you on our platform! We will have to discontinue WhatsApp soon but you can keep receiving our deals in your pocket by downloading our app! All the best from the Pirrr'ate ship!

The platform is very inspiring

The platform is very inspiring. I booked several luxury spa holidays for a really small price. Essentially, most of these deals are available on the internet, but it saved me a lot of time to go on this website. Their employees are scanning the web every day and find out what's good value for money. They publish their best finds on the website with the redirection links to the platforms selling the deals. You really have to be quick to book, and a little flexible with the dates but the value for money is exceptional.

Date of experience : 21 October 2019

Ahoy Paulette! We're really delighted that you enjoyed using our platform and our deals! We work really hard to find the best deals for our clients and help them found their dream holiday ! Many thanks from the Pirrr'ate ship!

Absolutely amazing!

We booked a holiday from 1st-8th of October to Mallorca with holiday pirates about 3 weeks ago. We booked the flights, transfers and hotel booking all through holiday pirates (loveholidays were who the actual booking was with). Just got home today and absolutely no issues at all, everything was spot on. Was definitely apprehensive at first as we’ve had terrible experiences before with third party booking systems but seriously could not recommend holiday pirates enough. Will be booking with them again!

Date of experience : 08 October 2022

Thanks Carys! Glad we could find a good deal for you.

misleading. Listed costs/details inaccurate

First time using this service. Have realised that it is completely misleading. Searching for green list self catering holidays including flights. When you click into the detail, flights are often NOT included (added extra cost) and rooms are often NOT self-catering (note: the inclusion of a toaster does not constitute a self catering facility). This is nothing to do with "extremely time sensitive offers". Further, their 'contact us' web page goes to a 404, and the advertised live chat does not exist. DO NOT TRUST

Date of experience : 03 August 2021

they will try to extract more money after booking

I booked a holiday for 7 which required organsing among many and then they said it was unconfirmed, contacted me again two days later for more money and still I don't know if its booked or not and they have my money so i can't book anywhere else. they deliberately keep me in this state of uncertainity and anxiety so they can extract more money and cancel at a time too late to book else where. this is a shamble and disgraceful.

Date of experience : 22 March 2022

Thanks Sanjar, we don't take any money at all from our users. We just review other peiople's deals, so you'd need to investigate it with the travel company you describe.

After being excited and looking at all…

After being excited and looking at all there amazing offers My wife and I with her sister and partner found our perfect 4 day get away After carefully putting everyone’s details in When we paid our deposit and confirmation came through It has some gotten the surnames wrong I have tried calling and sending emails with no joy in response So whilst I’ve then looked at changing the surnames with jet2 It looks like that I have to pay for this! Which I think is really unfair seeing how I filled everyone’s details correctly! If in the next 4/5 days I don’t hear back we are just going to cancel So please HolidayPirates/Loveholidays Can someone please sort this matter out

Date of experience : 06 April 2022

Thanks for your review, John - you mention your booking is with Loveholidays and we have no access to bookings of any kind - we just review travel deals.

Extremely bad customer service

Booked a weekend get away through holiday pirates. When I got my information through they had messed up the names for the flights. I have called three times, each time I’m told the new documents will be sent that day. I still haven’t received anything and we fly in two days. I’m also told to be patient when I speak to anyone from customer service, they are very rude and I expect this happens a lot and they don’t do anything about it To change names on the Ryan air website it’s over 100 pounds. I ended up calling Ryan air and explaining the situation and they changed the names with no charge. I won’t be using holiday pirates again

Date of experience : 30 August 2023

Thanks for your review Francesca. We don't sell any travel, so the issues you describe need to be addressed to the company you bought from. We just review the best deals we can find to save people money - check on the documents you mention to see which company you booked with. We also don't have the customer service department you mention as we're a team of writers.

Slow and expensive

I will give a two because the site is really user friendly for looking for deals. Don't book with them though, especially for last minute deals. I made the error of booking, it's been pending for over 24 hours and in that time I realised I could have got it 10% cheaper with full rather than half board and free airport transfer if I had booked elsewhere. Can't submit a price match until the booking is confirmed either, so no doubt I will get stung by increased flight price by the time it's eventually confirmed. I will probably have to just chalk this up to experience, but others should learn from my mistakes. Great to browse, but book direct / check other sites for better deals on the same (or better) holidays.

Date of experience : 25 March 2022

Thanks Cece. We actually can't take bookings, so the issue would need to be addressed by whichever travel company you booked wtih. We just review the best travel deals we can find for value, and have no access to booking info.

Awful hotel deceptively described

Awful hotel deceptively described. Sold a 4 star hotel with LoveHolidays via HolidayPirates in Montenegro (Hotel Rivijera, Petrovac). In reality it was 2 star. Immediately adjacent to two(!) large abandoned & derelict hotel building sites. Both abandoned hotels dominate view from pool. One was immediately in front of our 'sea view' room balcony. Half board dining was awful. Food very basic and same every day. No vegetables for dinner. Most food run out over 30 mins before closing. Dining room was dirty. Seats with ingrained dirt. Food barely warm. Dining staff incredibly unfriendly and uninterested. Bedroom was in the 'new' section and after the uneven walkway through the building site (5 min walk from reception), with exposed wiring and pipework was navigated the room was superficially ok. However, the sink was blocked, the safe in-operative, the bed linen missing (no covers for spare pillows or the duvet). Duvet dirty with awful stains. Daily cleaning was very poor. Dirt left in sink, toilet paper left on floor next to bin, bed not made. To say this was poor was an understatement. It ruined the start to our holiday so much so we checked-out early and paid to stay somewhere else. Montenegro itself is stunning. Just don't stay in this hotel. It's grim. And consider very carefully any descriptions from Holiday Pirates to ensure they are not misleading.

Date of experience : 15 September 2023

Thanks Tom, HolidayPirates looks at how strong the savings are vs usual prices - we use lots of publicly available sources to make sure the hotels featured have decent reviews. Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, but you would need to address that with the company who sold you the package - we aren't legally allowed to see any details of your booking as we don't sell travel.

SHADY GIVEAWAY WİTH NO WİNNER

They announced a giveaway for a 4000£ all-inclusive Bali trip and asked applicants to like and share their posts every day. I shared their posts every day (19 days!) and 1 week after completion date, they still did not announced the result for giveaway. No post, no winner. We are used as free advertisement. When you ask via comments, messages no replies at all. So shady company zero trust. Do not believe them anyway...

Date of experience : 19 March 2023

Thanks so much for your comment, and I'm sorry that you didn't win this time, and that we didn't get back to you at the time. As you can imagine, we get thousands of comments and our team is small. Done like a kipper!

Found a fab little trip for my daughter and her partner that she has always wanted to do..... Rome and Venice. Followed link to booking site, paid my money then my daughter had to wait to be contacted by the allotted travel company. 2days later she got a call and they started asking for more money from get-go and seemed that everything needed more money (from flight, hotel to transfer) totalling the same price again that I paid! She was told that the vouchers I had bought were useless and that nothing was correct! Told them that it was to be thanks but no thanks then but now can't get any reply via email or WhatsApp from the company that took my money! Disgusted and very disappointed, still trying to get my money back.

Date of experience : 27 July 2022

Sorry for the difficulties you've had, Mandy. We don't take any money and don't sell travel, so this needs to be addressed with the3 company you booked with.

Cancelled our holiday less than 24 hours after booking!

Wanted to book a last minute holiday, looked on here for reviews first and it seemed this company were reliable, we booked a nice holiday within our budget and waited for it to be confirmed not thinking there would be any issues, wrong! We woke up the next morning to an email that our holiday was cancelled, they were quick enough to take our money which luckily we put on a credit card but we have had to fork out an extra £500 to book with Tui instead, avoid if your looking for a reliable company to book a holiday with!

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Is a Keeper: TV Review

Legendary talk show host and hot wing evangelist returns to television with hilarious new Max travel show

Conan O'Brien tries Thai boxing with predictable results.

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down , this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.

Popular on Variety

Conan’s three-decade run as a talk show host ended in 2021 under less-than-optimal circumstances , as he wound down his TBS show during the pandemic year. He talked to longtime sidekick Andy Richter , who sat among dozens of cardboard cutout fans. O’Brien quipped that they were last in line for the vaccine because the CDC had looked at the shows and “they said ours is the least essential of pretty much all the non-essential shows.”

There was some truth in that, but Conan had already started his move to other outlets , starting with his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in 2018.

The podcast is funny and sweet, especially the pre-interview segments with longtime associate Sona Movsesian and producer Matt Gourley. Conan mocks Sona’s legendarily bad work habits. and Gourley’s flea market predilections, but any kind of comedic acid is reserved for the self-lacerating O’Brien. (On a recent episode, Conan runs down his own looks, and it is cruel and hilarious, but part of me is thinking, “Dude, cut yourself a break.”). The only time things get contentious is when Conan visited by longtime friend Kevin Nealon — perhaps the podcast’s best episodes.

The podcast had an offshoot called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” on which O’Brien would talk to a fan, often in a faraway land. That led to O’Brien traveling to Norway, Thailand, Ireland and Argentina to meet them. Why? Well, a dour and ominous narrator, aka Werner Herzog, offered this rationale at the beginning of each episode: “Once a proud talk show host, he’s been driven by a changing ecosystem to a drier and harsher climate: the weekly podcast. Here , without the nourishment of his studio audience, this clown with dull , tiny eyes, the eye of a crudely painted doll , is forced to feed on that meagerest of morsels: the random call-in fan. Unhinged by the feral scent of their mild enthusiasm. He scavenges in distant lands uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition , and the occasional selfie.”

It’s a self-deprecating bit, but it’s also the truth. Conan has been doing travel shows for years, most notably one to Movsesian’s native Armenia , as well as a chaotic trip to Finland where O’Brien is treated as a god because of his physical resemblance to the Finnish president who happens to be a woman. He clearly loves the journey. And he loves the comedy set piece–see his classic “Old Timey Baseball” opus — which has always been an essential part of his appeal.

The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather , he revels in the fact that he is the fool. (See his instant-classic appearance on “Hot Ones,” the show where interviews are conducted while the celebrity consumes increasingly acidic chicken wings. Conan rhapsodizes on comedy being all around us as green-yellow mucus drips down his nose.) Of course, there are exceptions made for old friends. Conan goes out for asada in Buenos Aires with the effete and erudite Jordan Schlansky, a longtime producer and frenemy. Schlansky and Conan are the Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon of American cable , and on his TBS show and podcast the two have tangled over Japanese customs, Conan hosting Schlansky’s bachelor party in his own office, and Schlansky hiding an expensive Espresso machine in an inaccessible part of their offices. (As with the Courtney Thorne-Smith segment, Conan’s visceral malice toward Schlansky works because it is so out-of-character).

During the Argentina episode, they get into a fierce argument about the proper pronunciation of the word “tango,” Conan then licks Schlansky’s favorite cut of meat — wait, that came out wrong. After, they go on an ill-fated trip to the Pampas, where both fail spectacularly at gaucho life.

Not everything works. O’Brien does a self-referential bit about the expensive drone he is using on the first show , and for the next four episodes I am distracted every time I see a beautiful shot thinking about the drone’s specifications and capabilities. Some of the stuff goes on a bit long, but so does my writing.

These are minor quibbles. If you’re a Conan fan, you’ll treasure the trips, just like his completists treasure encounters with a masturbating bear. The series ends with Conan tracing his family’s roots in Ireland. He comes across his ancestor’s land, makes a few jokes, but then looks at the land, clearly moved. Conan O’Brien has played the fool long enough; we grant him this moment of humanity with all our hearts.

All four episodes of “Conan O’Brien Must Go” are now available on Max.

'Conan O'Brien Must Go' is side-splitting evidence of life beyond late night TV

reviews on travel pirates

Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway. Conaco/Max hide caption

Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway.

To be honest, when I first heard Conan O'Brien was ending his TV talk show in 2021, I assumed news that he might turn to variety shows and online programs to continue his career was some combination of face-saving and wishful thinking.

But after watching the four episodes of his new Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , it's now obvious — even to a thickheaded critic like me — that leaving late night TV really was liberating for O'Brien. He's leveraged his unique sensibility into several different podcasts, a deal with Sirius XM , specials featuring other stand-up comics and now this travel series for Max — which resembles jokey specials he did for cable channel TBS back in the day.

And as the late night TV genre crumbles under sagging viewership and the decline of traditional media, O'Brien's renaissance also provides an example for the future — where fertile comedy minds and talented performers can spread their work over a much larger canvas.

Is Conan O'Brien the best 'Hot Ones' guest ever? Discuss.

Pop Culture Happy Hour

Is conan o'brien the best 'hot ones' guest ever discuss., learning a lesson from 'hot ones'.

O'Brien already made a splash recently with his brilliantly maniacal appearance on the interview-while-eating-hot-wings show Hot Ones , slobbering over hot sauces while claiming, as he was checked over by a fake doctor, that "I'm fine! I'm perfectly f*****g fine!"

This is the place where O'Brien shines — he's called it "this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid" — and it's on full, freakish, super silly display in every episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go .

The conceit of the show is pretty simple. O'Brien heads overseas to visit average folks in Norway, Argentina, Thailand and Ireland who had once Zoomed in to speak with him on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan . Sometimes the visits seem like a surprise — he catches one aspiring Norwegian rapper in shorts and Crocs after popping up on his doorstep — and others seem a bit more planned, including his visit to a radio show with about four listeners in Buenos Aires.

Each episode begins with a solemn monologue which sounds like it is delivered by the film world's most eccentric voice, German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (he's not credited in the show and when asked, a publicist at Max shared a quote from O'Brien: "I can neither confirm nor deny the voice in question.")

The torturous accent by "Herzog" makes every line sound absurdly hilarious, describing O'Brien as "the defiler ... with dull, tiny eyes ... the eyes of a crudely painted doll ... he scavenges in distant lands, uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition and the occasional selfie."

Now that's smart. And oh so stupid.

O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway

Fans of O'Brien's Conan Without Borders specials on TBS already know what his style is when he tackles a travel show — throwing himself into outrageous reactions and situations while working his quirky brand of improvised conversations with hapless bystanders.

In the Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , that includes O'Brien offering screechy vocals onstage during a performance of a Norwegian emo/rap band. Or asking provocative questions of a couple therapist/sex expert. Or getting beat up in a "fight" with a 10-year-old boy in a bar.

It's all an excuse for O'Brien to unleash his energetic wit, taste for silly absurdity and skill at drawing laughs from sympathetic — if often befuddled — strangers. Whether you enjoy this special will depend on how you feel about O'Brien's style, which can feel a bit like the world's best class clown doing everything possible to make you crack a smile.

(Rent a family in Norway so they can say goodbye when he gets on a SeaCraft? Check. Get local artists to paint a mural of O'Brien, a soccer star and The Pope on the side of a building in Argentina? Double check.)

'Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend' Is A Joke Name For A Podcast — Sort Of

But what amazes in a larger sense is how O'Brien has turned his sensibility into a comedy brand to fuel work on many different platforms. And, at age 60, with more than 30 years as a comedy star, he's been released from the shackles of any genre to shine wherever he chooses — whether it's an episode of Hot Ones or a streaming service which sometimes looks like a collision between True Detective and 90 Day Fiancé .

Leaving late night TV as late night left him

I'm old enough that I started covering TV not long after O'Brien made his first move from the shadows of life as a comedy writer – he worked on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons — to succeed David Letterman in 1993 as host of NBC's show Late Night (now hosted by Seth Meyers). Back then, NBC gave O'Brien years to figure out the show, honing his smartly serious comedy in a way that would inspire then-teenage fans like Seth Rogen and Bill Hader .

O'Brien left NBC after a disastrous deal where the network tried to make him host of its venerated late night program The Tonight Show and also keep its former host Jay Leno at the network. He moved to a late night show on TBS in 2010, but even then, there was a sense that his creativity was a bit hemmed in by the format.

After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night

After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night

By the time he left his TBS show Conan for good, it seemed O'Brien was already caught in a trend which would hobble other late night shows — as young viewers consumed his content online and ratings on cable dropped.

Now, with a podcast and digital media company worth many millions and growing status as a TV comedy legend still willing to do almost anything for a laugh, O'Brien is proving there is a successful life beyond late night.

Particularly, if you have the talent to play the fool while leaving little doubt you're also the smartest person in the room.

It’s My Work-Diapers Backpack-Tote

Portrait of Liza Corsillo

Most diaper bags are just tote bags or backpacks made of waterproof materials, with extra pockets to hold bottles, pacifiers, and baby snacks. (Some of the more elaborate ones have insulated storage and removable changing pads.) They are often bulky, and, in my experience, life as a parent is easier without one. I prefer a more streamlined multipurpose bag that I can use for work or travel or just everyday errand-running, in addition to baby outings. And the best one I’ve found so far is the surprisingly spacious and nice-looking LeSportsac Double Trouble backpack.

LeSportSac Double Trouble Backpack

My ideal diaper bag is lightweight and easy to carry, wipes clean and doesn’t show stains, looks good with everything I might wear, and is just as handy for carrying a laptop, water bottle , or wallet as it is for carrying baby stuff. The Double Trouble checks all of these boxes — plus, it can be used as a backpack or a tote. It has two tall pockets on the sides that work just as well for an adult water bottle as they do for a baby bottle. Inside, there are four elastic-trimmed mesh pockets that I use for everything from a computer charger to extra tampons and infant Motrin. There’s also a sneaky outer zipper pocket on the back and two smaller pockets (one zip, one not) on the front.

Despite its French-sounding name, LeSportsac is an American company that was founded in 1974, was taken over (and given new life) by the son of the original founders in the early 1990s, and is now in the middle of another revival along with other popular brands of the ’90s and 2000s. This resurgence and the backpack’s trapezoidal shape make it feel subtly trendy — even Prada -adjacent — especially in the all-black nylon that I have (though it also comes in an ever-changing array of bright colors and playful prints). It has a ’90s mini-backpack vibe without being actually mini or overtly vintage-looking. I first became familiar with the brand in college when I worked part-time in a kids’-clothing store that carried some of the Hello Kitty and Tokidoki collaboration bags . Then, last year, LeSportsac sent me a few items to try in celebration of its upcoming 50th anniversary, and the Double Trouble was the sleeper hit.

Before the Double Trouble became my “diaper bag” of choice, I tried three other contenders: a leopard-print Colugo diaper tote , an all-black Caraa baby bag , and a Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole backpack , also in all black. All three are well-designed bags with practical details like removable looped straps for hanging on a stroller and insulated pockets for snacks or milk, and all three had great potential. But, ultimately, none of them fit my criteria for everyday (or even occasional) non-baby-related use and ended up in the back of my closet.

I put the Patagonia backpack — which is also popular among artists and art handlers — on my baby registry , thinking it would work well style-wise for both me and my husband. It’s lightweight and packable and can be hosed off in the event of a spill. But since it lacks structure, the lightness of the backpack and the depth of the main compartment are more frustrating than they are practical. No matter how thoughtfully I packed it, everything would disappear as if into a … black hole. I always had to use two hands and a hard surface to find anything — not great if you’re also holding a wriggly or fussy baby with a dirty diaper.

reviews on travel pirates

The Caraa baby bag is the opposite, designed so you can find exactly what you need quickly. It’s all black on the outside, but the lining is cream-colored, so all your stuff is easy to see. It has three insulated outer pockets, two non-insulated magnetic sleeve pockets, a back zipper pocket that can fit a tablet or an iPad but not my MacBook Air, and a hidden zipper pocket for tucking away the optional shoulder straps. Inside, there are also four clear plastic slots and one elastic rimmed divider for organizing diapers . But the bag is bulky in a way that outs it as a diaper bag, and it can’t really double as a work bag since it can just barely hold my 13-inch laptop in the main compartment (and even then, the computer fits only without a protective sleeve ). The wealth of pockets, while useful, annoyingly causes me to carry more than I need.

The Colugo diaper tote is roomy and very attractive, with a handful of useful inner pockets and two small zipper pockets on the outside. It also has a removable cross-body shoulder strap. But I’ve found I like it better as a weekend bag, because it’s too big and heavy to use on a daily basis in New York City.

Where the Double Trouble beats them all is in its simple and ergonomic design. It’s comfortable to wear as a backpack despite a lack of extra padding or tactical-looking straps — the wide, woven nylon straps hug my shoulders gently as they evenly distribute the weight of whatever I am carrying. I can even wear it comfortably while carrying my son in a baby carrier , and the placement of the outer pockets makes it easy to reach around and grab my phone or a straw cup one-handed. When the subway car is crowded, it’s easy to switch to carrying it by the top handles as a tote. It fits in the storage bin of my compact Yoyo Stroller or in the basket of a Citibike. Best of all, it always makes my outfits look more sleek and put together, so much so that I chose to bring it with me instead of a purse on a recent trip to Japan and even got compliments on it from the salesperson at the Beams store in Kanazawa. It’s more than just a work bag, or a diaper bag, or an alternative to a purse for sightseeing, and I plan on carrying it long after my son is out of diapers and carrying his own backpack .

WAS Discovery Travel Insurance Review: Features, Pros and Cons

Updated: Apr 17, 2024, 9:08am

The Discovery Plan from WAS Travel Insurance could be a good choice for Aussies looking for a no-frills travel insurance policy. However, it only offers a number of standard features of comprehensive policies as optional add-ons and that can make the policy much more expensive than first meets the eye. Regardless, its unlimited medical cover, high age limit of 99 years, and positive customer reviews makes it a viable option for those in the market for a medically focused, no-frills travel insurance policy.

Wise And Silent Travel Insurance, known as WAS, is a Brisbane-based travel insurance company that offers “tailored coverage” to its customers. This tailoring differs from the standard comprehensive travel insurance policies on the market, which usually have a set minimum for standard inclusions for policies, such as lost luggage cover and cancellations.

WAS Travel Insurance is underwritten by Pacific International Insurance Pty Ltd, an Australian insurance company based in Newcastle. While WAS isn’t listed on ProductReview, it has scored a 4.7 star review on TrustPilot from an albeit small number of 39 customer reviews.

Customers highlighted WAS’ staff communication, the ease of applying for coverage, and a “smooth and efficient” claims process.

WAS offers two types of plans, Covid Essentials and Discovery Plan. For the purpose of this review, we analysed the comprehensive option, the Discovery Plan.

As stated, WAS Travel Insurance works a little differently to most travel insurers. Its comprehensive policy is known as the ‘Discovery Plan’, which is available to those aged up to 99 years old and includes unlimited medical in its base cover.

For families travelling together, it’s important to note that children can be added to the policy at a lower rate, but they are not included within a parent/guardians policy as is the industry norm.

Once you start to add to the base cover, WAS Travel Insurance becomes even more complex, with only a handful of medical outcomes covered as standard and far more classified as optional.

For example, credit card fraud is not covered as a standard inclusion; instead, unauthorised use of credit cards can be covered as part of luggage and personal effects, should the policyholder choose to take out this optional extra. Personal liability is not covered automatically, but needs to be selected for coverage up to $2.5 million.

Any trip cancellations are only covered up to the amount chosen by the customer (ranging from $1,000 to $40,000 per customer) and travel delays are covered as optional extras, up to $2,000 per customer. Delays are reimbursed at a rate of $50 per six hours, which is below the industry standard of $200 for every six hours, however no excess applies to these claims. (For missed flight connections, these are only covered should the policyholder choose to add travel interruption cover to their plan.

Rental vehicle excess is also an optional add-on, with the maximum cover of $6,000 for those looking to hire a car during their holiday. In many policies this is covered as standard and does not require the traveller to add it as an optional extra.

Lost Luggage

When it comes to lost luggage, those with WAS Discovery Travel Insurance will need to choose it as an add-on as they are not automatically covered. The lowest option is $1000, while the highest is $10,000 (per traveller).

WAS will only cover an individual item to a limit of $1,000.

WAS Travel Insurance include unlimited medical cover within its comprehensive policy, which extends to additional expenses such as transportation to a medical facility or, in the necessary event, back to Australia.

There is also cover for a medical companion to stay with you during treatment and/or necessary medical-related travel, even if they themselves are not listed on your policy.

Certain pre-existing conditions are also covered if they meet the necessary criteria. The 44 automatically covered conditions include anxiety and depression, diabetes, sleep apnoea and many more.

Other conditions outside of the pre-existing conditions list will not be covered by WAS Travel Insurance.

Covid-19 is included in the unlimited medical cover, which is explained in further depth below.

Is Dental Cover Included?

Dental cover is included in the WAS Travel Insurance Discovery Plan, but not under the unlimited medical expenses. Instead, there is up to $2,000 covered for emergency dental treatment, which is more generous than most insurance policies, which generally top put at $1,000.

Yes, WAS Travel Insurance includes Covid-19 medical expenses within its unlimited medical coverage. It also includes cancellations related to Covid-19, however, that is dependent on how much cancellation cover the policyholder requests.

What About Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is covered by WAS Travel Insurance there are unexpected serious complications of pregnancy occuring:

  • Up to the 24th week of pregnancy if you’re pregnant with a single child; or
  • Up to the 19th week of pregnancy if you’re pregnant with twins or multiple children.

The exclusions include childbirth; the healthcare of a newborn child; pregnancies with existing complications; or pregnancies in which the person has previously had complications with previous pregnancies.

What About Sports and Activities?

WAS covers a range of sports and activities, however, rather than specifying what is covered, it provides a list of the excluded activities being:

  • Snow sports;
  • Motorcycle or moped riding;
  • Racing (except on foot);
  • Polo playing;
  • Mountain climbing requiring the use of equipment such as pick-axes, anchors, bolts, crampons, carabiners, lead or top-rope anchoring or other specialist equipment;
  • Motor sport or motor racing (including training or practice);
  • Running with the bulls;
  • Professional sports (including training or practice);
  • Parachuting, hang-gliding or paragliding; or
  • Scuba diving, unless you hold an open water diving certificate or diving with a qualified diving instructor

However, policyholders can choose to add additional adventure packs—snow, motor and cruise—which will then cover them for those sports.

WAS Travel Insurance prides itself on offering budget-friendly insurance policies to Australians; however, the cost of a policy with WAS isn’t as clear cut as many others—largely due to the many different inclusions that one needs to opt-in to.

Forbes Advisor Australia has run quotes against two of our top picks of travel insurance providers for Australians— Travel Insurance Direct and Allianz Travel Insurance —to compare the prices of WAS Travel Insurance when opting-in for a level of cover similar to what these two competitors offer automatically.

As Bali is a top destination for many Aussies, the data below is based on a 28-year-old Australian travelling to Indonesia for a week.

Related: A Guide To Travel Insurance For Bali

This analysis does not include other additional costs that would need to be considered, including sports cover, children travelling, pre-existing medical conditions and so on.

As you can see from the table above, opting in for the same level of cover that is offered as standard by competitors makes the WAS Travel Insurance policy the most expensive of the three.

It’s important to note that policy prices for travel insurance will change for a range of factors, including age, destination, length of trip and any specific needs required by the traveller. The above data is to be used as a guide only.

From the limited reviews online, WAS’ customer service staff members have been hailed as being “very patient and helpful”, with their knowledge “making the experience [of submitting a claim] much less stressful”.

WAS can be contacted by phone or email, with different email addresses and phone numbers unique to the service required (emergency assistance, claims, or general enquiries). The full list can be found online here .

Customers can also submit a form online to be emailed back, and are able to submit claims online or over the phone.

WAS may be a risky choice for some customers who choose to opt-out of the optional extra cover for the sake of saving money and end up being under-insured. Some travellers may not realise the importance of personal liability insurance and fail to select it, which could land them in hot water if an accident was to occur overseas. As a comparison, most other insurers include personal liability insurance as standard in their comprehensive policy: Travel Insurance Direct offers $2.5 million in personal liability, while Allianz offers $5 million—with caveats around snow and adventure packs.

Nevertheless, WAS may be attractive to budget travellers who are happy with a no-frills policy, but want to ensure they’re covered for the basics of medical and dental.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is was travel insurance good.

WAS Travel Insurance did not make Forbes Advisor Australia’s top picks for comprehensive travel insurance , but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good option for Aussies looking for international cover. The comprehensive policy offered by WAS is a build-your-own type of plan, meaning it is tailored to the customer individually in terms of cancellation cover, luggage cover, rental car excess and more.

It may be suitable for budget-conscious travellers looking for a no-frills policy that is focused on medical and dental. However, it’s worth noting that when compared to other insurers on the market, WAS ended up being more expensive once the add-ons were included in the quote.

From 38 customer reviews on TrustPilot, WAS received a rating of 4.7 stars.

What policies does WAS Travel Insurance offer?

WAS Travel Insurance offers two policies: Covid Essentials and Discovery. The Discovery Plan is what would be considered its ‘comprehensive’ offering, considering it allows customers to tailor the plan to suit their needs.

How much does WAS Travel Insurance cost?

The cost of WAS Travel Insurance—like any travel insurance provider—is dependent on many factors: your age, your destination, the length of your trip, and any personal requirements such as higher lost luggage cover for specific equipment or items, whether or not you need cover for certain sports and activities, any pre-existing conditions you need covered, and more.

From a quote Forbes Advisor Australia ran of a 28-year-old going to Bali for one week, paying an excess of $250 and opting in to $2000 of cancellation cover, $10,000 of lost luggage cover, and rental car excess, the total WAS quote came to $141.80, which was higher than competitors.
