Nature & Wildlife in Singapore
Pockets of amazing nature can be found throughout Singapore, providing a pleasant respite from the city's bustle.
SEE & DO
Whether you’re a nature lover, culture buff, thrill-seeker or cocktail enthusiast, Singapore has a wide selection of leisure offerings within easy reach.
A collaboration with The Straits Times, the multimedia interactive site offers users an immersive experience of touring the building and grounds of Istana through augmented reality and 360-degree virtual tours.
Inside the Istana
Take a closer look inside.
Explore the rooms in the Istana main building where guests are honoured and entertained at state functions and other gatherings.
You may be tempted to head straight up the grand staircase to the drawing rooms with their cosier atmosphere on the second level.
Before you do so, explore the stately rooms on the first level in 360-degree photos.
Rolling out the blue and beige carpet
Look around the Reception Hall . Here, the Istana rolls out the red, or rather, an exquisite blue and beige Persian carpet for visitors.
There are two more beautiful rooms to explore on the first level.
Go across the entry foyer to get to the State Room.
Official ceremonies, such as award investitures, are usually held in there.
A place for honouring good people
Look around the formal and dignified State Room where the stage is set for official presentations.
Before you glide up the grand staircase to check out the drawing rooms and more, there is one more stop on the first level.
It is a grand one, and it is where guests are hosted to state dinners and other gatherings.
Glittering and grand
Look around the Banquet Hall , where warm ties are made over meals and conversations.
That cosier feeling upstairs
Nyatoh wood covers most of the floor on the second level.
It gives the area on the second floor a feeling of a home-like place - albeit a grand and big one. It contrasts with the formality of the rooms below.
Scroll on and step right up to the grand staircase to see how it will lead you to a space with a cosier atmosphere.
You get that cosier feeling when the Statuario white marble of the grand staircase, which begins at the entry foyer, ends at the second landing. The latter is finished in hardwood floorboards and leads to flights of timber treads and rises on each side.
On your way up, your feet will sink into an Axminster woven runner carpet in red sitting on the central portion of the staircase.
You will pass by the Guardian Of The House statue. The convict-artisans who built the Istana worshipped the divine entity as a spiritual benefactor.
But if climbing the stairs is not for you, there is a lift.
It is finished with teak-veneered panels on the sides, a bevelled mirror at the rear, and rust-coloured leather padding on the lower wall panels.
The lift door is etched with a classic trellis design.
At the reception area on the second floor, a Maria Theresa-style chandelier hangs from the ceiling. It is even bigger than the one in the Banquet Hall below, measuring 3.6m by 1.7m, and weighing a massive 350kg.
Mahogany armchairs with blue upholstery, blackwood-stained Chinese coffee tables and a fine wool Persian carpet in red and blue tones complete the look of the reception area.
It might just tempt a visitor to sink into a chair to gaze at the dazzling chandelier for a while before heading into the drawing rooms on either side.
Perhaps you would prefer to head to the verandahs instead to enjoy more of that pleasing wooden floor.
The verandahs enclosing the rooms on the second level add to that sense of cosiness. Standing there while enjoying a view of the grounds, you are protected from the heat and humidity by glass panels enclosing the verandahs. You are also shielded from harsh sunlight by mechanically operated louvred shutters.
Although there is air-conditioning in the Istana main building, there are still period ceiling fans in it. It is a nod to the tropical architectural aspects of the building, along with the antique furniture, from the Chinese altar tables to the mother-of-pearl inlaid chairs.
The choice of furnishings in the West Drawing Room is dominated by Louis XIV chairs in dark leather, complemented in turn by sofas upholstered in rich damask.
The West Drawing Room is separated by a chinoiserie divider from the Sheares Room with its boat-shaped mahogany table.

President's duties.
The President is responsible for safeguarding the national reserves and the integrity of the public service. The President also receives foreign dignitaries, officiates at state functions and performs other ceremonial and community duties.
The Istana turned 150 in 2019. A series of events and activities were held over the past year to commemorate this landmark anniversary.

Virtual tour services.
Visual Narrative is a full-service Commercial Photography & 360 Virtual Tour Company based in Singapore. We offer the latest advancements in Virtual Tour technology in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Our company focuses on Quality and Customization. Offering the highest quality 360 photography created with the Fujifilm GFX 50S and fully customizable code-based Virtual Tour interfaces.
Because with we shoot our 360 degree images manually with a high megapixel DSLR camera we can use professional architectural and interior photography postproduction techniques in the final images. This allows us to process a 360 degree image the same way we would edit high-end corporate hotel photography. We can also digitally smooth fabrics, clean concrete, and walls as well as complex object removals. Additionally, we can remove all of the “2020” measures and tape residue from surfaces as well. In fact, we often work with very demanding hospitality clients and hotels who expect perfection in every centimeter of every image. Everything must be perfect in every image. Perfection is what we do.
In addition, we offer fully customizable Virtual Tour Web Interfaces. With over 10 years of experience creating Virtual Tours, we have found the only solution to total customization is to custom code the interface. We have a variety of pre-made interface elements to choose from that keep development costs to a minimum. But we also offer the ability to completely develop virtual tour functions and features from scratch to suit our client’s needs. We would love to hear your ideas for custom virtual tour features and functions. We can build anything you can dream of into a Virtual Tour. We often hear in exploratory meetings “can we do this?” or “can we do that?” the answer is always “yes, we can!”
To summarize, quality and customization mean everything to us. Everything in every image must be perfect and we never want to tell our clients something cannot be done. Finally, we want to challenge ourselves with every 360 degree photo and we want to challenge ourselves with new features and functions within the Virtual Tour Interface.
We also offer Commercial Architectural and Interior Photography Services. Images our clients use to sell their spaces. We mainly work with very demanding clients in the hospitality industry who expect perfection in every image we deliver.

360 Virtual Tour for Conrad Centennial Hotel in Singapore
Luxury Hotel Virtual Tour at Conrad Centennial Singapore
Hotel Virtual Tour at Conrad Centennial Singapore created in 2021 for Conrad Hotels & Resorts. Take a virtual tour through this award-winning luxury hotel located within the business and shopping districts of Marina Bay and minutes from Marina Bay Sands Hotel. All major areas of the hotel have been captured in 360 degrees to create a virtual walkthrough of the location. For example, 360-degree panoramic images have been created in the hotel rooms & suites, the executive lounges, the spa and gym as well as the meeting and event spaces. This allows the viewer to virtually visit the hotel from anywhere in the world on their desktop or mobile devices.
A fully customised virtual tour web interface was created for the hotel. This web interface allows easy navigation between the areas in the tour with a navigation menu and waypoints and displays information to the viewer with pop-up information boxes.
We have created a side navigation menu with the brand colours which separate the tour into areas. The viewer can select which area they would like to visit by clicking the location in this side menu. Custom pulsing waypoints have also been created which open a bubble thumbnail image and title of the destination. Finally, there are information pop-ups with a subtle fade effect. When the viewer hovers over these information hot spots an information bubble appears with an image and description.
Hotel Virtual Tours
Our team at Visual Narrative has over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Our company is based in Singapore, but we work worldwide. We understand that hotel photography requires absolute of perfection in the final images. Therefore, we manage a virtual tour photo shoot with the same attention to detail we would in a corporate hotel photography shoot. Our hotel virtual tours are created with a 51.4 Megapixel Fujifilm GFX 50S Medium Format Camera system. Everything is done manually, and all of the images are processed in the same way we would create a standard hotel photography image.
We also specialize in hospitality level post-production and retouching. We anticipate a certain amount of hospitality level edits and DI work on our hotel 360 photos. Our image retoucher and DI artist can also take care of any complex edit request or advanced DI requests they may have on the final 360-degree images. This is hotel photography and everything in every image must be perfect.

- Use the Universal Express Pass : Getting the Universal Express Pass online was the smartest move we could have made. The Universal Express Pass can provide faster access to some of the park’s most popular attractions without waiting in regular queues. You may make better use of your time and energy in this way.

What to wear in Universal Studios, Singapore
When planning a trip to Universal Studios Singapore, keep in mind that the weather in Singapore may be fickle. Because of the hot and sunny weather, you may need to dress for comfort and sun protection. Lightweight and breathable clothing in light colours, such as shorts, skirts, t-shirts, and dresses, can help you stay cool. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes to protect yourself from the sun.
On the other hand, Singapore is known for its tropical rain showers throughout the year. It’s wise to be prepared for rain when visiting Universal Studios.
Bring a raincoat or poncho to keep yourself dry and avoid heavy clothing that may become uncomfortable when wet.
If you want to keep your feet dry and comfortable in the rain, wear closed-toe shoes or waterproof sandals.
Being prepared for hot and rainy weather can ensure a pleasant experience at Universal Studios Singapore regardless of the weather. So pack appropriately and prepare for a terrific adventure at the theme park!
Through a Mother’s Eyes!
The pure joy and excitement on my children’s faces as we toured Universal Studios Singapore were priceless to me as a parent. The day was jam-packed with exciting activities like riding heart-pounding roller coasters and watching amazing shows that had us wondering the whole time.
I am so happy we could make such wonderful memories with my family at Universal Studios Singapore, which lived up to its billing as “ the world’s most exciting theme park.”

Oh wow.. this is amazing
I have visited Universal too. But since it was a weekend we ended up most of our time waiting in the lines. I did the transformers ride and enjoyed it. Visiting Universal studios can be an amazing experience if you are visiting on weekdays, then you’ll get to enjoy ride mores and waiting time is much less.
Universal Studios always makes for great times. Especially when you are there with kids, the fun never stops. Great place to head with family for some quality time together.
This destination is on my bucket list for the longest time. Thanks for such an elaborate post and such amazing pictures.
You took us on such a wonderful virtual tour to Universal Studios, Anjali. A well-written post with all the necessary information. Want to take my kids here soon and your post is surely helpful to plan.
Yes I agree this place is amazing. But the country is an expensive one. Wasn’t a blogger back when I visited it so my pictures there are so blah!
This really makes for a thrilling trip. Last fun trip like this was way back in 2010 to Hong Kong Disneyland! I hope I get to visit Universal Studios in Singapore. I would love to take the Egyptian ride, I know from experience that the rides are so scary, but they challenge our thinking. I would love to see behind the scenes by Steven Spielberg and Harry Potter magic. And take pix with all the characters, enjoy the Hollywood parade. It’s all like fantasy coming alive.
The rides Transformers and Revenge of the Mummy look so thrilling, not to mention the amazing interactive experiences. This post is very helpful in planning a Disneyland Singapore visit in the best possible way to utilize time and money and have a great experience with the kids.
Such an insightful post. Will surely pay heed to your post whilst planning my trip to Universal Studios.
Wow wow wow! I can sense your excitement in your post Anjali. I wasn’t aware that it’s an all in one park and it has so much to offer. It must have been so much fun. Your kids wouldv had a blast too… their happiness is evident in the pics… esp. your daughter. That blue dress pic is so adorable. Your tips are very helpful for someone who is planning and it’s so nice that uv written about what to wear.
What a beautiful post! 😍 Universal Studios have so many activities to do that we can’t do justice to all in a limited time. Thanks for the detailed information.
Singapore I visited a couple of years back and trust I am in love with this destination. If I get chance and to be precise time again I will again take a tour to explore Singapore. Many call this nation expensive but honestly I never found it to be one. Coming to the Universal studio, its a place where you will revisit your childhood days and will get the chance to fullfill many unachieved dreams of childhood. Everything so colorful, lovely and oh yes I have one pic with Mr. Shrek at the Studio… the characters are so colorful. A lovely pic with Kitty is also there. How I can miss talking about the rides…. OMG the moments are unforgetable and you helped me revisiting this amazing place through your post.
I was working for Singapore Airlines but never got a chance to visit however the tour that you gave here is too good. Especially the details about express pass and the weather/clothing to wear.
Singapore is undoubtedly the country I love for many reasons apart from India. it is great for tourists and the universal studio is a must to visit if one is there for the first time.
What an exciting time you had! Universal Studios is world-renowned and having the chance to go there is kinda epic! Thank you for sharing everything about this place and your excitement is clearly seeping through your words. Such wonderful photographs too!
Thank you for the virtual trip. I have heard a lot about Universal Studios but I have never been there. It looks like a wonderful place for the kids to enjoy. The pics are lovely.
A visit to Universal studios is every child’s dream. I’ve been to Universal Studios both in Florida and Hollywood and remember the movie themed attractions and thrilling rides that we took. However, only the Universal Studios Singapore features the world’s first and only Transformers- The Ride 4D. The exhilaration of your trip seeps into your post and we can feel your excitement virtually. Now I can’t wait to head to Singapore to enjoy a similar experience with my family soon. Thanks for the share. 🙂
Universal studio is on my bucket list. Your tips will be really useful. Thank for the detailed post and specially tips.
I just love Universal Studios! Singapore is such an enchanting place! I feel at least 2 days are required to fully savour the Universal Studios and Sentosa resort island.
Singapore is in my bucket list and Universal Studio is a must see. Thanks for this detailed post. Will keep it handy.
The trip looks like a treat for the kiddos. Loved the pics. It is best to pick up the tickets online to save time and hassle. Thanks for sharing an in-depth post. Going to refer to it on our next trip to Singapore.
I visited in 2016 and it was a family vacation…so had a lot of fun. Though I didn’t do any of the crazy roller coaster rides, the others were very good as well. There was a transformers VR one that I especially enjoyed.
Singapore in my bucket list, I enjoyed the adventure tour through your detailed , wonderful post. Looks like its going to be fun being there.
USS is really a must visit theme park when you visit Singapore. We also had a great time when we visited years ago. Too bad I’m the only one in my family who loves riding rides, hence, we haven’t gone back for so long as we feel like tickets aren’t utilised much. Glad you and your kiddos enjoyed!
Your travelogues are a keepsake. I am going to refer to them when I visit these places. Universal Studio is a world in itself. I wish we had such places in India. Ramoji is there, but it’s a poor comparison.
I have been to Universal Studio and I agree with you that buying the tickets online and getting the Universal pass is worth it. Its a day well spend and still at the end you crave for more fun, if you are in Singapore you should surely visit this place.
I’ve been to Euro Disney but no other film theme park. You’ve made Universal Studios Singapore sound very attractive!
Your post brought back so many memories from my trip to the Universal Studios in Singapore. I visited with my wife and two kids in 2016 and had the time of my life. To date, the children remember the Transformers and Jurassic Park rides.
Wow!! This is one place I want so much to visit with my kids. Thanks for sharing all details I’m going to bookmark this for my future trip!!
Singapore seems like a whole world in itself, with so many fun and amazing things to do with kids and family. I would definitely plan a visit in the future with my child and husband. Thank you for sharing the focal points of your trip.
I have never been to Singapore but Universal Studios is my must-visit place when I do. Thanks for the detailed post. It is like I have a guide with me as to do what and how to go about it.
We have been to Singapore but not visiting Universal Studios was the biggest set back. Next visit will be dedicated to universal studio only. Thanks for adding such a detailed post, I am going to bookmark this to plan better
