More on KISS [Courtesy of Live Nation Entertainment]:

KISS remains one of the most influential bands in the history of rock and roll. As one of America’s top gold-record champions, KISS has released 44 albums and sold more than 90 million albums worldwide. Decades of record-breaking tours around the globe have included high-profile appearances at Super Bowl XXXIII, the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the Rockin’ The Corps concert dedicated to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and special guest appearance on the 2009 American Idol finale that boasted 30 million viewers and a 2010 Dr. Pepper Super Bowl commercial and advertising campaign in support of their Hottest Show On Earth tour.

The KISS legacy continues to grow, generation after generation. The unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the KISS Army to the “Hottest Band in the World” is a striking testament to the band’s unbreakable bond with its fans, and just one of the reasons KISS was nominated for induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. KISS is currently in the studio recording Monster , the followup to their 2009 chart topping album Sonic Boom and preparing for a major world tour starting in summer of 2012.

Kiss and Motley Crue Announce 2012 Summer Tour Dates

Kiss and Motley Crue will embark on a 40-city tour together, with each band playing 90-minute sets on their fully stocked and typically insane stage set-ups. The bands announced the trek, which, by the way, they're calling simply "the Tour," at a press conference broadcast online earlier today (March 20).

Kiss will headline each night, with Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx quite logically explaining it was he who had a Kiss poster on his wall growing up, and not the other way around. Paul Stanley, who seems to be treading close to 'Unmasked'-era costume territory with his latest feather / shoulder pads get-up, promised that this tour would be the very definition of "bang for your buck," and implied that the only way to see more artillery in one night would be to piss off the military.

Although "comedian" George Lopez announced this would be the first time the two bands shared a stage, someone else pointed out just five minutes earlier that the Crue had in fact opened for Kiss on their 1982 'Creatures of the Night' tour. (Oh wait, that was Lopez, too!)

When asked which songs they'd like to hear their touring partners perform on stage, Sixx requested the 'Hotter Than Hell' gem 'Parasite' (Nice!) while Stanley went with a traditional but also awesome 'Wild Side.' The best exchange of the event took place when Gene Simmons and Stanley provided nearly simultaneous respective "Yes" / "No" answers when asked if Gene would be filming his reality show while on tour. For the record, we are most clearly on "Team Paul" for this debate.

So, KISS is pretty much on the bucket list of every single music photographer I know. Or if they aren't, they should be. Because let's face it. They rock.

Photographing KISS is like shooting fish in a barrel, except instead of bullets, you're using dynamite. And the barrel is filled with nitroglycerine. Hit the jump for my full set of KISS on The Tour with Mötley Crüe.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

Lenses Used:

  • Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8
  • Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8
  • Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8

Normally, I use two cameras for every shot I shoot. My Nikon D3 and my D700. For this show, I just used a single body: the Nikon D800 . I was being greedy – I wanted all the pixels for this show.

Now you're probably thinking, why you use a camera that is obviously too high resolution and far too slow for events? Just call me crazy.

Honestly, even coming from shooting basically every live show for the last four years with two cameras, rocking the single Nikon D800 worked out well for this gig. This was in part due to the stage performance of KISS, in which the band members frequently come to the front of the stage and generally make it a cake walk for photographers.

For this show, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 really did the lion's share of the optical work, particularly on the wide angle end. Even with just two songs to work, I was actually amazed at how well switching lenses worked out.

In terms of speed, the Nikon D800 's modest (read: weak) 4 FPS did alright with these veteran rockers. While the frame rate of the D800 feels pretty sluggish coming from the Nikon D3, in practice didn't really seem like a huge issue. If anything, the slower frame rate of the D800 means that one may miss fleeting facial expressions. Overall, while faster responsiveness would be better, the D800 's frame rate is reasonable enough that as long as you don't need to machine gun the shutter release. The interesting result to this slower frame rate is that while the files of the 36mp D800 are massive, since you're shooting slower than with say, a Nikon D4 or Nikon D3, the gigs don't add up as much as they could.

But back to KISS. Honestly, you could really use a P&S with these guys, because they make it easy on you. The lights are ridiculously bright, it's all white light, and the band themselves literally come to you. It's amazing.

So really, one D800 or five Nikon D4s, it doesn't really matter. KISS just makes for great images any way you slice it.

Get Social:

Oh, looks like they are already interested in you! Nice set…

Hey Hafiyyan, thanks! Yeah, they are great subjects and definitely make it easy.

Yeah, you touched on it here but, the lighting just pops out at you. In fact, it looks like studio lighting. Just delicious. But give yourself credit Todd, while they may make it a cakewalk, you have to do your part as well.

Must have been a blast!

Awesome shots!!!!

MAN YOU ARE MY HERO….BEST REGARDS …CESAR FROM BRAZIL (SAO PAULO)

Hey Todd, do you test the nikon d600? if you have to compare nikon d600-d800 for concerts, events,or sports, which one do you choose? is the d800 the new d700 with more GB, or at the contrary is the d600, the new d700 with video?

Thanks, and keep on with your great work ;)

Todd, great images. I cut my teeth shooting Jimi and Janice on trix pushed to da max. Lately, living in Hawaii, we don’t get the big acts,,,or we get the tired old timers, but I still get some great images. Poor old Johnny Winter could hardly move, but could still turn out a great performance while sitting in a chair. Thanks for all the tips. I'[ll read more later, gotta go. Jock

Taylor Swift Forgot the Lyrics to One of Her Classic Songs – and Fans Backed Her Up (Video)

The singer warned the audience she had yet to get the song right in rehearsals ahead of the Eras tour stop in Santa Clara on Friday

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift added another reason her Eras Tour has been lovingly referred to as the “Errors Tour” when she forgot the lyrics to a classic song Friday in Santa Clara, California.

It occurred during the part of the concert where Swift performs a surprise song from her epic catalog. This time, she was joined by “The National” band member Aaron Dessner, according to SF Gate .

The duo performed “Right Where You Left Me” off of Swift’s 2020 folk-inspired album, “Evermore.” But she made sure to manage the crowd’s expectations and told them she’s been rehearsing the song for weeks and was having trouble getting through it correctly.

And, yes, she ended up flubbing a lyric, according to SF Gate. “I had genuinely been rehearsing that for six weeks,” she said of the mistake, before performing it a second time.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

As you can see from the video below, her fans helped her out with a singalong.

This is just the latest of a run of hiccups on the Eras Tour. In Philadelphia, for example,  she stopped the show  to tell a security guard to leave a fan alone. And in another show,  she accidentally swallowed a bug . In another, a stage malfunction led to her running off for a set change .

Swift’s sixth concert tour,  the Eras Tour , began in March and ends with shows in London in mid-August 2024. The length of the concert is the longest of her career, clocking in at just over three hours and including 44 of her songs.

Drake Comes Out as Surprise Guest at Nicki Minaj's Toronto Tour Stop, Gives Her Kiss on the Cheek

Minaj showed love to Drizzy during her Pink Friday 2 World Tour after he caught heat from Kendrick Lamar on "Euphoria."

Nicki Minaj didn't hesitate to bring out her longtime Young Money partner and frequent collaborator, Drake , during a Toronto stop of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour.

Drizzy was a special guest at the Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night (April 30), just hours after getting a fiery six-minute response from Kendrick Lamar on diss track "Euphoria."

But while the 6 God didn't speak on Lamar, he got major props from Minaj, who called him an "icon" and "legend" after performing their latest collaboration, "Needle." After giving Minaj a kiss on the cheek before she retreated backstage for a costume change, the venue went up when Drake performed "Rich Baby Daddy" off his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs .

Later, Drake teased a potential follow-up to his Lamar-aimed tracks "Push Ups" and "Taylor Made (Freestyle)," saying, "You know what time it is, you know what I gotta do," before exiting the stage.

Earlier in the day, Drake sent subliminal shots to Lamar on Instagram via liked posts before comparing "Euphoria" to a poetry scene from the 1999 romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You .

But last night wouldn't be the first time that Drake came through for Minaj on her recent tour. During some trouble at the Canadian border last month, causing her Montreal show to be delayed, the "Evil Ways" rapper "made a couple calls" for Minaj, which allowed her to perform three hours after her scheduled concert time.

Three days earlier, the GENE SIMMONS BAND performed at the grand opening of the Rock & Brews restaurant at the Ilani dining and entertainment destination in Ridgefield, Washington. It marked the KISS bassist/vocalist's first live appearance since the legendary rock act concluded its "End Of The Road" farewell tour at New York's Madison Square Garden in December.

Prior to the Ridgefield appearance, Simmons told ABC Audio about the show: "There are no rules, which is my favorite thing in life. Anything is bound to happen. I may jump off the stage and get into the audience. We may pull some folks out of the audience. You wanna sing 'I Was Made For Lovin' You' ? Here's the mic. Good luck."

Regarding the setlist for the concert, he said: "We get a chance to play songs KISS has never played and some songs have never been recorded. So it's a very exciting event."

GENE SIMMONS BAND will next launch a European tour on July 27 in Kuopio, Finland.

Back in 2017 and 2018, the GENE SIMMONS BAND played a number of shows with a lineup that consisted of Simmons alongside guitarist/bassist Jeremy Asbrock , guitarist Ryan Cook , guitarist Phil Shouse and drummer Brent Fitz .

Six years ago, Simmons stated about his solo shows: "Doing these smaller concert halls, which hold a thousand to three thousand people, means they get filled up by real diehard fans. They don't want to hear the 'same old, same old.' They want to hear nuggets, as they say. It's a hoot for me because I've never really had a chance to do this stuff live. It's been a lot of fun." Gene told the Chicago Sun-Times : "By the end, I get the chance to bring as many people from the audience as we can fit on the stage to sing with me."

Regarding how the idea for a solo tour came about, Simmons told Australia's Advertiser in a 2018 interview: "The GENE SIMMONS BAND was not a plan or anything. About a year ago, a corporate event asked me to be keynote speaker … then they said, 'Won't you get up and sing a few tunes?' I explained that you can't just do that, you've got to have a band and rehearse and all that. They said, 'Well, we'll pay you X dollars more,' and I said, 'I like you!' "So I put together a band from Nashville — these guys back up Kid Rock and lots of other people — and without a single rehearsal, I just told them which songs I wanted to do and they learned them. It just sounded natural — there is such a thing called chemistry. They don't teach that anywhere — I mean, they do teach 'chemistry' but not the kind I'm talking about. It felt right and as soon as the videos went on YouTube and such, people were calling. This little GENE SIMMONS BAND never tried to be KISS … It was just a little bit of fun and stuff. Now all of a sudden, we're headlining festivals in the Czech Republic, Canada, Germany… It's crazy."

KISS played the final concert of its "End Of The Road" farewell tour on December 2, 2023 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Regarding why now was the right time for KISS to call it quits, Simmons told USA Today : "The touring band that is KISS with the makeup and the dragon boots and fire-breathing, that has to stop and that has to do with Mother Nature and Father Time. If we were a blues band or I was blessed to be Keith Richards in THE ROLLING STONES , I'd show up in my comfy sneakers and T-shirt and stand still and play. But we're different bands. Physically, we are the hardest-working band on the stage. We idolize [ Mick ] Jagger and Bono and the great showmen, but if you put those guys in my outfit, they would pass out in half an hour. It's 40 pounds of armor and studs and seven-inch dragon boots that are about the weight of a female bowling ball. So you've got 20 pounds on your feet and then you've got to spit fire, fly through the air and the entire band is doing that for two-plus hours. If you have any love for the fans, get off the stage before it's too late. How many boxers have stayed too long in the ring? We're doing the right thing."

Music + concerts, music + concerts | all of the surprise songs taylor swift performed during the eras tour la tour dates.

kiss the tour 2012

Sofi Stadium will bring in hundreds of thousands of fans to Inglewood throughout the next week. Since the start of Swift’s tour on March 17 in Glendale Arizona, her set list has stayed consistent, with only a few song swaps here and there. However, one thing that fans can count on is that each night of the Eras Tour, Swift selects two songs from her catalog to perform acoustically, one on the guitar and one on the piano. With her six Los Angeles concerts come 12 new surprise songs.

It’s an intimate moment between Swift and her fans, with rare guest appearances, where she strips down a song to just the lyrics and the chords.

So far Swift has performed 93 different surprise songs throughout her U.S. dates. After promising fans that if she messes up a song and has to restart it, it’s fair game for her to perform as a surprise song at another venue, she performed “Clean” from 1989 for a second time.

Fans have taken it upon themselves to track each of the surprise songs as they go either through making a series out of it on TikTok , creating a website or taking to social media to place bets on which songs they thing she’ll perform that evening and what their punishment will be if she does.

Here’s the breakdown of surprise song possibilities left for the LA shows from each of Swift’s 10 albums:

From her debut album:

  • The Outside
  • Stay Beautiful
  • Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)
  • A Perfectly Good Heart

From Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

  • Tell Me Why
  • The Way I Loved You
  • Untouchable
  • Come in with the Rain
  • We Were Happy
  • That’s When
  • Don’t You
  • Bye Bye Baby

From Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)

  • Better Than Revenge
  • Electric Touch
  • Foolish One

From Red (Taylor’s Version)

  • Girl at Home
  • Forever Winter
  • The Very First Night

Taylor has performed all of the songs from 1989 during the first leg of her tour. The final song she performed from the album was New Romantics on August 9 after announcing that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) would be her next re-recording. The album will be released on October 27, 9 years to the date after the original album was released.
