Keith Sweat (born July 22 1961) is an R&B singer originating from Harlem, US, who is well known for being a pioneer of the New Jack Swing genre.

Starting his career at the young age of 14 with the band Jamilah, Keith was clearly musical from very early on in his life. Although this band wasn't very successful on a grand scale, it prepared Keith for his solo career which began in 1984.

After touring night clubs and getting noticed by various record companies, he finally released his début solo album in November 1987 entitled "Make It Last Forever" on Vintertainment/Elektra Records. The biggest hit from his first release "I Want Her" clearly showed influences from New Jack Swing and was nominated for a 1989 Soul Train Song Of The Year Award, whilst simultaneously hitting #1 in the R&B charts.

His next two albums both entered the U.S Music Chart in the top 20, with his second album "I'll Give All My Love to You" coming in at #6. His third release in 1991 "Keep It Comin'", featured R&B legend LL Cool J on one of the hit singles.

Keith has still remained active in the modern era and has won many awards thanks to his contribution to R&B music. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Favorite Male R&B/Soul Artist following the release of his fifth and self-titled album a year before. In 2013, he received the Soultrain Lifetime Achievement Award, clearly showing his massive contribution towards the genre.

Keith Sweat is still known for have a slow and smooth style of music whilst projecting heart felt lyrics. His way of singing perfectly suits R&B music and New Jack Swing.

The crowd heading inside Lynn Auditorium on Saturday night was fixed up to the nines. Men looked fresh in suits and ties. Ladies were sparkling in sequins and spandex, hair done and makeup on point. The fancy, mostly 40+ crowd was there to see R&B singer Keith Sweat, who transformed the venue into a VIP lounge for grown and sexy folk during his provocative 2-hour concert.

Sweat (yes, that is his real name) first hit the top of Billboard’s R&B chart with his 1987 debut album Make It Last Forever. The multi-platinum artist took the Lynn audience on a journey through his 30-year career as a singer, songwriter and producer with an 18-song show. From the moment he stepped on stage singing his 1990 hit “Make You Sweat,” the 1,500+ fans in attendance were on their feet and aisles were packed with dancers. It appeared everyone in the house was out to have a good time, including Sweat.

Early into the show, Sweat asked that the house lights be turned up so he could see everyone and share a playful, but declarative, statement about what his sexy songs incite: “Someone here is going to get pregnant tonight.”

He seemed somewhat preoccupied with the act of babymaking and found one couple in the crowd that was already 6-months along. He joked, “I hope you made that baby to a Keith Sweat song.”

Sweat also shared another factoid about his music.

“I don’t do lip-syncing,” he boasted several times.

Clad in head-to-toe black, the 56-year-old crooner with a devilishly-handsome smile didn’t need a backup track. He looked and sounded as crisp as he did in the early years of his career. His vocals on slower jams like “Get Up On It,” “Nobody,” “Twisted,” “Freak Me” (the 1993 hit that he wrote and produced for the group Silk) and “I’ll Give All My Love To You” (a crowd favorite) were sultry, smooth and showcased a surprising range as he switched from tenor to falsetto. And his more uptempo tunes “Keep It Comin’” and a cover of Johnny Kemp’s “Just Got Paid” demonstrated Sweat’s mastery of the New Jack Swing sound, and moves, that he helped pioneer in the 1990s. His background singers, 5-piece band, rapper/hype man and dancers were equally skilled, adding much depth to the performance.

Midway through the show, Sweat briefly disappeared for an outfit change. Dressed in all-white everything, he surprised the crowd while singing the seductive “Test Drive” by inviting several single ladies and a few couples to join him on stage. The group remained on stage for the rest of the show, either dancing or sitting on leather couches in the living room-like setup.

Sweat closed the show with the most successful single of his career and, judging by the crowd’s spirited reaction, the most popular/best song of the evening - 1988’s megahit “I Want Her” (with a few lines of Cameo’s “Candy” snuck in at the end of the song).

Though it’s much too soon to determine whether the Lynn area will experience a population boom nine months from now, one thing’s for certain: Keith Sweat delivered a charming, energetic performance of nostalgia-filled R&B greatness. If anyone in attendance was not already enamored, many fans were born tonight.

Quite why Keith Sweat chose to adopt that particular moniker remains a mystery to me, because I doubt he ever breaks one; he’s one of the smoothest men on the planet. He’s so much more, too, than an R&B singer; he’s a genuine pioneer of new jack swing, with early records like Make It Last Forever and I’ll Give All My Love to You amongst the classics of the genre. As time has gone by, and the lines between new jack swing stylings and traditional R&B have become more and more blurred, he’s continued to prove a commercially-viable proposition, with every album he made up until 1998’s Still in the Game going platinum in the U.S. Since then, he’s continued to record and tour, and still charts strongly; in an acknowledgement of the scene’s changing sensibilities, too, he featured T-Pain on a track on his most recent album, In the Morning. Shortly before that record dropped, he toured the UK, packing out clubs across the country with an expansive live lineup that included live drums and an array of backing singers. The setlists spanned his entire career, with a particular focus on his mid-nineties material, and the shows themselves proved that Sweat retains a cult fanbase on theis side of the Atlantic.

American R&B/soul, singer-songwriter and record producer Keith Sweat has been active on the live circuit since 1975 and in this time he has learned a thing or two about how to entertain a crowd. His music is now celebrated and adored by fans of all ages and he is an accomplished performer in every sense of the word.

Considered to be an innovator of R & B/soul, his vocal shows no sign of faltering with age as the notes of 'Make It Last Forever' sound pitch perfect in the intimate setting. It is clear his music means a lot to people as the opening tones of 'Nobody' resonate around the room and the audience cheer loudly before supporting the singer throughout the track. He thanks his crowd of fans sincerely for this and tells tales of gigs gone by and his time as a performing artist.

'Twisted' also garners great reaction which causes Keith to smile broadly before beginning this R & B classic. The soul heavy 'I'll Give You All My Love' is the perfect closing ballad for a concert that could be described as being as smooth as silk.

It has been a great concert, beginning with Blackstreet with Teddy Riley A very excisting time with them singing all their hits and with a special show by Teddy playing for 20 minutes alone on stage the greatest New Jack Swing hits he produced from Heavy D to Michael Jackson Really a wonderful time

Following them Keith arrived with his tremendous hits along the way and it has kept us voiceless from Make it last forever to the great jam of I want her with the one and only Teddy on vocoder. He even did some Cameo stuff.

I saw Keith sweat in concert when he came to the uk back in the mid nineties along with kut klose, Roger Troutman & a very young unheard of girl at the time named "Brandy"! To date I can honestly say that it was the best concert I've ever been to and I see he's booked to come back to the UK in September this year, but don't want to get my hopes up with the current covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully it will go ahead so I can see the man I've been listening to for 35 years and loved everything he's done from gerald levert, l.s.g., kut klose, Roger troutman etc.etc.

Keith Sweat was his usual self and performed a great show. The venue was great and added to the personal touch to the performance. The show was great and with the additional appearance of Doug E. Fresh helping to take everyone back to true old school flavor. 'Wowie' was all I could say at the time. Keith then brought out all his hits and threw in some "LSG" flavor also covering one of Gerald LeVert's hit. The line up may change but you will not be disappointed. If you get the chance to see this show- GO!!!

I absolutely loved the sexy men of R&B show in Beaumont, Texas. However, Keith i found you to be mean to one of your fans (me). While the group 12til was performing i happen to turn around and spot u behind the curtains. I spoke to you and you turned your head but not b4 you had staff close the curtains. All i wanted was a freaking picture. YOU'RE the reason i even decided to drive 3 hours away to attend the concert. Sad to say that im hurt and will not be a supporter of yours any longer.

Keith Sweat Enlists SWV, Tyrese & Pretty Ricky To Join Him On His ‘Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour’

Keith Sweat has enjoyed an illustrious career since hitting the scene in 1987 with his single “I Want Her” and subsequent debut album Make It Last Forever . But after 37 years in the game, the 62-year-old is looking to slow things down a bit. Don’t get it “Twisted,” though, he’s not retiring from music. However, he is ready to park his tour bus permanently with the announcement of his Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour . For his final tour ever, Keith Sweat is going out in a major way and bringing some major talent with him.

Accompanying Keith on this journey will be ’90s R&B divas SWV , fellow R&B crooner Tyrese and early aughts R&B group Pretty Ricky . R&B will clearly be front and center on this tour, which begins in less than a month.

Presented by Bobby Dee Presents , the 10-date Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour will commence on Thursday, February 1st in Minneapolis, MN. It will then move on to Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Charlottesville, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia, Winston-Salem, Pensacola and Oklahoma City, where it will wrap on Saturday, March 2nd.

Pretty Ricky will open for Keith Sweat on all of the dates while Tyrese and SWV will divide their opening slots. Any concertgoers who want to see SWV perform will be able to do so in Milwaukee, Fort Lauderdale and Oklahoma City. Meanwhile, Tyrese will take the stage at the other seven shows.

The Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour may be the end of the road for Keith Sweat, but we doubt that he’ll just be sitting on the dock of the bay after this. With only 10 cities on the tour, we have our fingers crossed that he adds another leg with more dates. Plus we expect him to still perform at festivals, on music cruises and the occasional concert here and there. Who knows, he may even have a Las Vegas residency in his future.

Keith Sweat Announces “Make it Last Forever 35th Anniversary” Tour

Harlem-born, R&B veteran Keith Sweat has announced the “Make it Last Forever 35th Anniversary” Tour beginning in February.

The tour will feature the legendary Keith Sweat alongside Tyrese and the chart-topping groups SWV and Pretty Ricky. Additional dates and more acts will be announced soon.

The tour kicks off Feb. 1, 2024, at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sweat will make additional stops in Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. The first leg wraps up March 2 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Sweat released his debut album Make It Last Forever in November 1987. The album sold over three million copies, spawning the hits “I Want Her,” “Something Just Ain’t Right,” “Make It Last Forever,” and “Don’t Stop Your Love.”

The tour announcement arrives after the 62-year old spent the year on the road. He was recently on the line-up for The Legacy Tour as an opening act and Funk Fest Tour in Atlanta.

Last year, Sweat collaborated with Raheem DeVaughn for his song “Can’t Nobody.” The song achieved much success landing Sweat his 15th top 10 hit on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

Keith Sweat Announces ‘Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour’

Legendary singer, songwriter and producer Keith Sweat has announced the initial dates for his Make It Last Forever Farewell Tour.

SWV, Tyrese and Pretty Ricky will join Sweat as supporting acts on select dates.

According to Sweat, more dates and supporting artists will be announced later.

Last year, Sweat scored his 15th top 10 hit on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. His song “Can’t Nobody ” featuring Raheem DeVaughn peaked at No. 5 during the week of April 23, 2022.

Regarding his collaboration, Sweat shared, “At this stage of my career, I make music that move me to say something. I am not interested in releasing music for the sake of statistics.”

He added, “I really became a fan of Raheem last year when we worked together and wanted to do a song with him.”

Sweat last released a project in 2018. His 13th album, Playing for Keeps , included his hit “Boomerang” featuring Candace Price.

The song reached No. 1 at R&B radio and on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It marked Sweat’s second No. 1 hit on that chart following 2016’s “Good Love.”

SWV wrapped up the Summer Block Party Tour with fellow R&B groups Jodeci and Dru Hill in September.

Last month, they joined Coco Jones on stage at the 2023 Soul Train Awards to perform their hit single “Rain.”

Tyrese recently released his single “ Love Transaction ,” his second track of the year. The song, co-produced by Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge and Tyrese, is presently No. 16 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

“Love Transaction” is the follow-up to “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me ,” released earlier this year. The soul-barring ballad peaked at No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in July.

“Love Transaction” and “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me” will appear on Tyrese’s upcoming album, Beautiful Pain. The double album was originally slated to arrive this year. However, Tyrese shared an announcement on Instagram, altering fans about his decision. to delay its release.

Beautiful Pain will follow Tyrese’s 2015 album, Black Rose , which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

As for Pretty Ricky, the R&B/hip-hop group has yet to release their final album, which they teased in 2016. The group’s vocalist Pleasure P released a new single, “ Galaxy ,” under his new stage name Marcus Ramone.

Round 1 (No. 1 overall, from Panthers) — Caleb Williams, QB, USC : The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner has essentially appeared destined to be the top pick of this draft for about three years, following an impressive debut as a freshman with the University of Oklahoma. But the mystery evaporated entirely when the Bears traded former QB1 Justin Fields to Pittsburgh in March. Now Williams becomes the latest presumed savior for one of the league’s original franchises – one that’s never had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards or 30 TDs in its century-long-plus existence.

However, Williams, 22, Chicago’s first No. 1 pick of the common draft era , should certainly be the guy to hit those thresholds and more. His game has been (unfairly) compared to three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes’, though Williams – he measures 6-1, 214 pounds – self-identifies with four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers. Either way, he has elite arm talent and the ability to make off-platform throws with the highest degree of difficulty, very often a necessity with the depleted Trojans last season. He also possesses ample mobility, though will often scramble in a bid to extend his time to throw rather than just take off down the field. In January, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy jetted to London to connect with the new crown jewel of the studio, Tom Cruise . The three met to identify a film that would kick off their nonexclusive “strategic partnership.” Sources say a raft of possibilities were discussed, including an “Edge of Tomorrow” follow-up and Quentin Tarantino ’s “The Movie Critic,” which currently isn’t set up with a distributor and has Warner Bros., like every major studio, salivating.

“The strategy at Warner Bros. right now and the reason they made some of these big star deals is they’re basically playing with other people’s money,” says one insider. “They’re shopping for Quentin or Cruise with the notion they can use it as a shiny object that is going to be additive when Zaslav sells the company.”

That time may be approaching. In April, Warner Bros. Discovery can entertain offers to buy, sell or merge with a studio like NBCUniversal, as many on the lot believe will happen. That’s when the two-year lock-up period expires as part of the 2022 deal that united WarnerMedia and Discovery. All of the recent moves, from a first-look pact with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap to the quest to land Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” follow-up are akin to painting a house before it hits the market.

And this is one splashy renovation. The budget for Todd Phillips’ musical “Joker” sequel — one of De Luca and Abdy’s first green lights — has ballooned to about $200 million, a significant bump from the $60 million cost of the first film. Sources say Joaquin Phoenix is getting $20 million to reprise his role as the clown prince of crime, while Lady Gaga is taking home about $12 million to play Harley Quinn. “Joker” took in more than $1 billion, but musicals are tricky. Case in point: Warners lost $40 million on last year’s “The Color Purple,” according to sources. Though that one can be blamed on the previous regime.

Some argue that spending big is essential when releasing movies in theaters.

“There’s only so much top talent in Hollywood, and it’s very competitive and stretched thin because a lot of talent have deals in streaming,” says Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. “If theatrical is going to work, you need the A-lister like Tom and Leo, and Warner Bros. is spending what they need to spend to keep this talent.”

But executives across town believe Warners’ math sometimes doesn’t add up, with the studio decried as fiscally irresponsible. The Anderson film, for instance, was greenlit with a $115 million budget, according to sources. Underscoring the gamble, none of the director’s movies has crossed $80 million at the box office. His latest, 2021’s “Licorice Pizza,” made $33 million worldwide. Even with Cruise’s star power, “Magnolia” only mustered $48.5 million. (It was De Luca, then a New Line exec, who convinced Cruise to play “Magnolia’s” misogynistic self-help guru.) The pair are said to be less pumped about another auteur’s latest: Bong Joon Ho ’s “Mickey 17.” In January, Warner Bros. pulled the $150 million Robert Pattinson sci-fi starrer from its schedule and then moved it to 2025. A Warner rep insists: “There is, of course, enthusiasm for it.”

As merger mania draws near, De Luca and Abdy seem unwilling to push back on talent asks. But apparently they did just that during the Coogler-Jordan negotiations. The director and star wanted 25% of first-dollar gross to split and two guaranteed theatrical release slots for future films. Both deal points were nixed.

Despite the pressure to acquiesce to demands from top talent, De Luca and Abdy can still say no.

Unwto 2021: a year in review, 2021: tourism united, resilient and determined.

2021 has been a year of learning and adapting for tourism. It has proven that only by working together can the sector overcome challenges and embrace opportunities.

Gathering the global tourism community and developing concrete actions, UNWTO has led tourism’s response with the vision of not only restarting, but doing so in a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable way.

January - March

As global tourism faced up to a second year of unprecedented crisis , UNWTO began 2021 by counting the cost so far . At the same time, however, the emergence of vaccines brought hope . The Global Tourism Crisis Committee met to explore what this meant for safe travel and the restart of tourism, while the announcement of the winners of the UNWTO Global Start-up Competition recognized the role culture and creativity will play in tourism’s restart and recovery .

April - June

Collaboration and innovation were the focusat the start of the second quarter. UNWTO partnered with IATA on a new Destination Tracker to give both tourists and destinations clear, impartial and trusted advice. And a new Start-up Competition was launched to find the best ideas for accelerating rural development through tourism. In May, the launch of the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO generated significant interest from Members in every global region.

July - September

As destinations in Europe welcomed tourists back for the peak summer season, UNWTO highlighted the role of digital solutions for the safe restart of the sector. But UNWTO also looked ahead, to a more sustainable future , working with key partners to reduce plastic waste and consumption across every part of the sector. Together, we celebrated World Tourism Day around the theme of Tourism for Inclusive Growth, a message of solidarity and determination that was echoed on a global scale.

October - December

The final quarter of 2021 began with cautious optimism as UNWTO’s Barometer showed signs of improvement in tourist arrival numbers during the summer season in the northern hemisphere. A new partnership with Netflix will bring the message of tourism as a driver of opportunity to a massive global audience, while in November, UNWTO was tourism’s voice at COP26 and signatories to the landmark Glasgow Declaration keep growing. Finally, against the backdrop of the UNWTO General Assembly , the programme of work for the coming biennium was approved and 77% of Members voted to secure a second mandate for the Secretary-General from 2022-2025.

Growing and Moving Forward

UNWTO brings together political leaders from across the globe to deliver a strong, coordinated response. Governments, destinations, fellow UN agencies and international organizations met at key international events joining efforts to rethink tourism. Institutional coordination has proven crucial to find the solutions that build a smarter, greener and safer tourism.

Leaving Nobody Behind

The pledge to ‘ leave nobody behind ’ means nobody should miss out : Not now as we support the sector in the face of crisis, and not in the future as tourism starts again. Tourism is a proven driver of equality and opportunity. And that’s why we turn words into actions, delivering guidelines and action plans , to ensure everyone can enjoy the opportunities tourism brings.

World Tourism Barometer: September 2022

UNWTO updates World Tourism Barometer and reports international tourism back to 60% of pre-pandemic levels from January to July 2022

Below are excerpts from the September 2022 release of the UNWTO Tourism Barometer :

The steady recovery reflects strong pent-up demand for international travel, especially in the months of June and July which are part of the Northern Hemisphere summer season. The easing or lifting of travel restrictions in an increasing number of countries also contributed to boost results.
International tourist arrivals almost tripled (+172%) in January-July 2022 compared to the same period of 2021. Numbers climbed from -64% in January 2022 (versus 2019) to -28% in July, the strongest month since the start of the pandemic.
Asia and the Pacific (+165%) saw arrivals more than double in the first seven months of 2022, though they remained 86% below 2019 levels.
The ongoing recovery can also be seen in outbound tourism spending from major source markets. Expenditure from France was at -12% in January-July 2022 compared to 2019 while spending from Germany stood at -14%. International tourism spending remained at -10% in Belgium, -23% in Italy and -26% in the United States.
The uncertain economic environment seems to have reversed prospects for a return to pre-pandemic levels in the near term. 61% of UNWTO Panel of Experts now see a potential return of international arrivals to 2019 levels in 2024 or later while those indicating a return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023 has diminished (27%) compared to the May survey (48%).

The situation for tourism remains rather unusual as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The crisis has marked a significant change for everyone, and above all for tourism, one of sectors hit hardest by the virus. 2020 was the year in which international tourism came to a near-complete standstill, and the only alternatives were domestic and local tourism.

2021 has seen some improvements, but only in a very subtle way as restrictions are still in place and many countries keep their borders fully or partially closed.

It is difficult to make an estimate for 2022 as it is not known how the pandemic will evolve. However, it is possible to talk about the new tourism trends that are likely to emerge over the coming year: – International travel with restrictions still maintained by both destinations and airlines in order to offer 100% security to the consumer.

– Reinforcement of COVID-19 testing; two years after the pandemic, COVID testing will still be in place as a preventive measure. – Conscious travel will be advocated. Travel to more distant destinations, but with prolonged durations of stay, as consumers look to enjoy as much of each place they visit as possible. – Green travel. Climate change is a problem that is present and growing. Consumers now are much more responsible and aware of the reality they live in on daily basis.

– A new trend is the “ed-ventures”. It is about combining education and holidays for the youngest members of the family. While adults may need to telework or attend meetings, their children can be doing workshops and learning in a playful way.
