Lebanon Hanover Announces First US Tour in 10 Years
- September 16, 2023
- Alice Teeple
Post-punk duo Lebanon Hanover , visas in hand at last, is set to embark on their first US tour in a decade. The British-German band, known for their melancholic lyrics, captivating live performances, and signature minimal synth and darkwave sound, has announced a series of dates across the United States, marking a significant return since their last American tour in 2013.
Lebanon Hanover has, in the past, been plagued with difficulties regarding American visas. During a previous North American tour, the band was forced to cancel the rest of their American shows after playing two Canadian dates and being denied re-entry in the US. Moreover, in 2019, the band had announced another US tour, which unfortunately had to be canceled a month before its commencement due, once again, to visa issues.
Thanks to the dedication and diligence of their booking agency, Persona Grata , and their unwavering resilience and commitment to their international fans, Lebanon Hanover have finally confirmed their first American tour since they released their acclaimed third studio album, Tomb For Two , and it’s iconic anthem “Sadness Is Rebellion.”
Lebanon Hanover has unveiled a series of tour dates nationwide, starting with a performance at The Monarch in Brooklyn, NY on October 4th. They will then grace stages in cities including Austin, San Francisco, Denver, Portland, and Los Angeles, with the tour spanning from October 4th to October 11th.
Tickets for several shows will be available for purchase soon.

Originating from Sunderland, England, in 2010, the duo—comprising Swiss songstress and guitarist Larissa Iceglass and British vocal powerhouse, bassist, and synth maestro William Maybelline—have thus far blessed us with six studio albums. Their unique concoction of cold wave, post-punk, and minimal wave has, over the past decade, ushered in a renaissance in European darkwave.
Last December, they graced us with their video for “ Hard Drug ,” a track from their avant-garde 2020 album, Sci-Fi Sky: a sonic odyssey bridging hope and desolation, illuminating our darkest times.
Sci-Fi Sky is available now via Fabrika Records.

Lebanon Hanover Finally Returns Back To The US After 10 Years
The British-German duo consisting of William Maybelline and Larissa Iceglass announced a series of US shows throughout October this year.
Darkwave duo Lebanon Hanover is primed for an extraordinary return to North America as they prepare to embark on their first US tour in over a decade. Armed with visas finally in hand, the band has announced seven shows for October this year, including stops in Brooklyn, Austin, Pomona, San Francisco, Denver, Portland, and Los Angeles.
Their journey to bring their music back to the US stage was fraught with many challenges. It all began during a previous North American tour when the band encountered the harsh reality of visa-related complications. After performing two successful shows in Canada, the duo was denied re-entry into the US, forcing them to cancel the remainder of their American tour.
The disappointments didn’t end there. In 2019, Lebanon Hanover had eagerly announced yet another US tour. However, just a month before the tour was set to kick off, visa issues once again led to the tour’s cancellation, causing immense frustration for the band’s American fans who had waited so patiently for years.
Despite these obstacles, Lebanon Hanover refused to give up on their American dream. With unwavering determination and the support of their booking agency, Persona Grata , they embarked on a tireless quest to overcome the visa woes that had kept them away from the United States for so long. Their perseverance finally paid off and the duo recently unveiled a series of tour dates that will span from October 4th to October 11th, taking them from coast to coast.
All dates and venues are listed down below with tickets to be purchased via Lebanon Hanover’s official website.

Brothers rule: How Chance Marsteller, John Stefanowicz blitz U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials
STATE COLLEGE − Chance Marsteller and John Stefanowicz may have just produced a U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials first:
The first brothers ever to wrestle on side-by-side mats?
That was the most unlikely scenario here in the Bryce Jordan Center Friday morning when the Kennard-Dale High grads wrestled their opening Challenge Tournament matches, simultaneously, on mats 3 and 4.
Marsteller took out longtime rival Evan Wick in the 86 kilograms freestyle class, 6-0. Meanwhile, older brother Stefanowicz wiped out his first Greco-Roman opponent on technical superiority, 8-0.
Afterward, Stefanowicz waited for Marsteller for a quick congratulatory handshake as they walked off the BJC floor.
Stefanowicz, wrestling at 87 kilos, made a stunning run to the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. He lost his first match and finished 12th. The U.S. Marine, never starred on the mat in high school.
Meanwhile, this is the first Olympic Trials for Marsteller, the Pennsylvania schoolboy legend who won all of his 166 matches and four PIAA titles at Kennard-Dale.
It was a dominating Olympic Trials start for Marsteller, who won the biggest matches of his life last summer against Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs, then captured a Pan-American Championships title earlier this year.
Marsteller, the No. 2 seed at 86 kilos, started his day by suffocating Wick, who he's quite familiar with. (During his 2019 senior season at Lock Haven, Marsteller was pinned by Wick early in the NCAA Championships but came back to beat him to finish third overall).
Both Marsteller and Stefanowicz will wrestle in Friday's evening session, concluding the Challenge Tournament section of the Trials. Marsteller gets Trent Hidlay of N.C. State, the recent NCAA runner-up at 197 pounds.
Penn State wrestling trades big victories and defeats in opening day
It was a rapid-fire opening for these Trials, which has been, as expected, a national showcase for the ultra-successful Penn State wrestling program.
Penn Staters with big Friday openings include recent NCAA champs Aaron Brooks and Greg Kerkvliet, NCAA runner-up Mitch Mesenbrink and former national title winners Nick Lee and Jason Nolf.
The most frantic action came with Marsteller, Stefanowicz and Penn State four-time champ Carter Starocci wrestling on three of the four mats, at the same time.
Starocci, though, lost his match, 6-4, to the NCAA runner-up at 197 pounds, Trent Hidlay. It marked the first time in more than a year that Starocci, who's still wrestling with a brace on his injured right knee, lost on the mat. (He took two injury default defeats in the Big Ten Championships in early March).
He later decided to injury default to Wick − ending his Olympic Trials with just one opening victory.
Alex Facundo, a Penn State sophomore-to-be, also wrestled two impressive matches here. He started strong by shutting out NCAA champ and teammate Levi Haines in the opening of their 74 kilogram bracket, 6-0.
Facundo, who took an Olympic redshirt season, was then faced with one of the tournament's toughest first-day assignments: Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs.
Nittany Lions go for Olympics: Will 'Penn State wrestlers' dominate U.S. Olympic Trials? Who they are, how they got here
David Taylor to Levi Haines: The student and mentor: How Penn State wrestling legends go for U.S. Olympic team together
Facundo battled tough and led 2-0 and was tied at the end of the first period. But Burroughs shut him down and grinded out the 5-3 victory.
Just a bit later, though, his tournament was finished. He lost his first consolation match on criteria (5-5).
Penn State wrestlers bow out: Carter Starocci, Beau Bartlett
Other Penn State-related wrestlers who bowed out in the opening session include Haines, Starocci, Vincenzo Joseph and Beau Bartlett.
Bartlett, the NCAA runner-up last month at 141 pounds, lost maybe the most excruciating match of the entire opening session.
He nearly pinned Joey McKenna in their 65 kilogram consolation — but was awarded no points for the moves. Then, he appeared to score the winning takedown as time ran out, only to have the points taken away on a challenge review.
His tournament ended with the 3-2 defeat.

Lebanon Hanover - Better Than Going Under b/w Kyiv
Release date November 21st, 2023 | Fabrika Records 12FP005
Following their first US tour in over a decade, Lebanon Hanover returns with a soul-stirring double A-side single release, marking their first new material since the captivating 2020 album, 'Sci-Fi Sky.' Now, the enigmatic duo of William Maybelline and Larissa Iceglass beckons listeners into unventured sonic domains, intricately weaving folk-driven acoustic dream pop with the vulnerable essence of post-punk in a contemplative exploration of life's ephemeral yet profound nature.
Embarking on a Cure-like sonic voyage reminiscent of the 'Head on the Door' and the 'Kiss Me Era,' Better Than Going Under manifests as a romantic, somber daydream. William Maybelline's brooding baritone intertwines with sighing back vocals, narrating an ode to life's fleeting yet boundless vistas. The acoustic strums initiate a folk-driven narrative which, when coupled with a celestial choir, crafts a contemplative soundscape of cautious optimism. The lyricism, "Life is full of wonder, it's better than going under," encapsulates a message of endurance amidst life's turbulent waves of sorrow. This track tenderly encourages listeners to embrace the small joys within life's limited vastness, portraying a psychedelic narrative reminiscent of the evocative vibes of Echo and the Bunnymen or The Church. The key change in the chorus amplifies the emotive voyage, making Better Than Going Under a compelling narrative that beckons listeners to find joy amidst life's unpredictable ebb and flow, rather than succumbing to the undertow of despair.
Bearing the name of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv , voiced by Larissa Iceglass, delves into a narrative reflective of the sorrow and despair entwined within war-torn regions like Ukraine and beyond. The acoustic guitar and drum machine create a Cocteau Twins' 'Treasure'-reminiscent soundscape, evoking a melancholic yet beautiful auditory journey. Iceglass's voice, transitioning from her husky baritone to a more resigned lament, embodies a poignant reflection on the harsh realities faced by those embroiled in conflict-ridden landscapes. The narrative exudes a collective empathy towards the suffering, underscoring the arbitrary geographic lottery that delineates the vastly disparate human experiences. Accompanied by a somber trumpet, the song paints a vivid picture of despair while also serving as a call to arms, urging collective empathy and togetherness to traverse through the harsh realities of this life.
Through Better Than Going Under and Kyiv , Lebanon Hanover invites listeners into a profound reflection on life's beauty amidst despair, nurturing a shared human experience aimed at finding hope and unity amidst the global tumult.
