Head down to Edinburgh’s haunted vaults by taking the Edinburgh: Underground Vaults Tour . This is one of the best ghost tours in Edinburgh and offers a unique experience as you head into the vaults.

The Edinburgh: Underground Vaults Tour begins with a walk around Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, where you will hear tales of the terrifying Tolbooth Prison that once sat outside St. Giles Cathedral.

Before heading down to the haunted vaults, you will pass through a small museum that features an array of medieval instruments once used on real people in the past. Finally, you can find out what a scold’s bridle was used for!

The tour takes you down to the South Bridge vaults, where you will see the infamous stone circle vault . The stone circle is said to hold an evil presence. If you step inside the circle, you may regret it! (I stepped inside, and I am fine if that makes you feel better, or am I?!)

And, to top it off, the vaults are home to a former witch’s coven, so if you are interested in witchcraft history in Scotland , this is the tour to take.

What makes this tour even better? While listening to more ghost stories, you will drink some delectable Scotch Whisky in a candlelit vault.

Why is the prison locked up? The ghosts that haunt the area are brutal, and tour guests often leave with scratches, bruises or feeling unwell.

Then, head down to the South Bridge Vaults, where you may meet the evil presence known as the South Bridge Entity. The vaults are terrifying and give off a creepy vibe. This gives the South Bridge Vaults the perfect spooky atmosphere for people who love to be scared.

Haunted Edinburgh Weekend – £99

Discover the darkside of Edinburgh with our exclusive haunted weekend that includes ghost hunt at the infamous Niddry Street Vaults and Gilmerton Cove – a haunted underground cove with links to the mysterious Knights Templar! You will be ghost hunting at two of Scotland most infamous hauntings with medium and demonologist Daniel MacDonald! Will you last the weekend?

Explore the darkside of Edinburgh’s past with our Haunted Edinburgh Weekend! Fright Nights kick off the weekend with a bang! The weekend begins with an exclusive overnight ghost hunt of Edinburgh’s famous underground vaults!

Our Edinburgh Ghost Hunt Weekend includes

  • Two ghost hunts!
  • Mediumship and Equipment workshops
  • Mediumship walkround – who haunts tonight?
  • Psychic and Ghost Hunting Equipment
  • Experiments including seances and glass divination
  • Ghost Hunting Vigils in the dark
  • Hot Drinks and Biscuits
  • Expert advice and discussion about the paranormal
  • Your chance to investigate haunted locations overnight!

Far below the busy, bustling Edinburgh streets there lies a dark, quiet, forgotten place. In the mid 1980s a set of Underground Vaults were discovered – chambers that had been abandoned for nearly two hundred years. These wonderful dark rooms are built of ancient Edinburgh stone, with arched ceilings, fireplaces and 18th century wine vaults.

Initially built for storage, the Vaults of the South Bridge are the most renowned of Edinburgh’s underground street system. Inhabited by beggars, thieves, streetwalkers and worse it became a hotbed of criminal activity.

For many years people have witnessed and investigated the strange hauntings of the Edinburgh Vaults, our private ghost hunt will include many of the areas where people have witnessed ghosts and paranormal activity. We have purposely designed this event to exclusively take place at the most scariest, haunted and unusual location in Edinburgh. You will be joined by experienced paranormal investigators as well as Daniel MacDonald, one of Fright Nights most popular mediums for a special investigation of the Vaults.

On Saturday Night we have a very special investigation of Gilmerton Cove – as seen on Most Haunted, Scream Team and Scariest Places on Earth! Gilmerton Cove is a series of hand carved passageways and chambers that lie below ground to the south of Gilmerton crossroads.

After five years of work by Gilmerton Heritage Trust and The City of Edinburgh Council to restore and preserve it for future generations, it opened in August 2003, the entrance to Gilmerton Cove is through a visitor centre adapted from a traditional mining cottage.

This cottage now houses imaginative audio and visual displays that depict the various theories behind the origins of Gilmerton Cove which, after extensive archaeological and historical research, still remain a mystery!

These include theories that it was the unique work of an 18th century local blacksmith George Paterson, a drinking den for gentry, a refuge for persecuted Covenanters and a smugglers lair.

We have purposely designed the weekend to exclusively take place at the most scariest, haunted and unusual locations in Edinburgh. We just ask one question? Do you think you can last the whole weekend?

Haunted Edinburgh Weekend Itinerary

  • 11:30pm Meet Niddry Street Vaults, Edinburgh
  • 12:00am Investigation Begins!
