Dubai gets hot in the summer. Really hot. We’re talking up to 50°C (122°F). But is it still worth planning a stopover or even a longer holiday in Dubai over the hot summer months?

Yes, it’s going to be sweaty hot, but it’s also a city built to deal with the extreme temperatures.  A summer stopover in Dubai may not be as unbearable as you think – let’s see what you can expect!

Dubai Summer Temperature – How Hot Does it Actually Get?

Whilst summer averages are reported at 45°C (113°F), it is quite typical to experience daytime maximums up to 50°C (122°F). The hottest month of the year is August in Dubai.

When is summer in Dubai? “Summer” in Dubai realistically runs from May until October .

Exactly how hot is Dubai? Check out this chart for Dubai’s average reported monthly temperatures (1) .

What you feel in Dubai and what is actually reported in the peas of summer can also be two different things!  You need to take into account not only the temperature but the humidity, too.  It helps if you have a weather app that gives you the “feels like” temperature as well!!

The humidity in Dubai tends to be more noticeable in the latter half of summer, August to September.

It’s also important to note that overnight, although you don’t get the sun’s powerful heat, the temperatures don’t drop below 30°C (86°F).  You can certainly see and do much more after dark without the glaring sun and heat, but be realistic about what can be done at night, too.

Let’s just agree; Dubai in summer is hot.

Dealing with the summer heat in Dubai for most tourists is not nearly as difficult as it might seem. First up, nearly everything is airconditioned to the max  – even too cold.  You will arrive in an airconditioned airport, transfer to an airconditioned car or Metro train and arrive at air-conditioned accommodation.  Even bus stops are air-conditioned in many locations!

Whilst the outside air temperature is extreme, most hotels will chill their pools in the summer months to make them a refreshing retreat. Swimming is still best tackled early morning and late afternoon/evenings.

The same cannot be said for the ocean, however!  You will need to be mindful that the salty waters of the Gulf can be too hot for swimming in over the summer (32-35°C/90-95°F); it will feel more like spa water than a refreshing break.

And in case it isn’t obvious, the sand becomes excruciatingly hot in the summer. It only takes burning sand to become trapped in your sandals or flip-flops once to work this one out, let alone if you dare attempt to walk on it barefoot!

You should always dress sensibly for the heat.  Please don’t have any misconceptions though, that ladies need to be wearing a full head covering or burka! This means ideally, wear loose cotton clothing that is still respectable.

A couple of important summer clothing observations:

• Tourists need to note the difference between “resort wear” and what you wear in public.  Although this seems to have relaxed over the years (maybe too much?), as a sign of respect, keep the skimpy clothing and bathers only to the pool & beach.
• When walking through hotel public areas, on public transport, in malls and in restaurants, you should ALWAYS dress respectfully for the Muslim country you are in. At a minimum, think covered knees and shoulders for both sexes and nothing too clingy and revealing – yep, you will see a lot of people flaunting this “rule”.
• Stick with cotton/rayon and breathable materials. Man-made materials will leave you in even more of a hot, sweaty mess.
• Temperature drops between outside and indoor air conditioning can be extreme. Make no mistake, you will still want to pack a wrap or cardigan for those indoor blasts of cold!

Dubai Summer Attractions to try in 2024

Whilst many seasonal favourites may be closed, there’s still plenty happening indoors to enjoy in Dubai over the summer months.

One of the world’s largest malls still has a huge amount going on over the summer. You could spend a few days here and not run out of things to do!

Sitting in the heart of “Downtown Dubai”, some of our favourites at Dubai Mall include:

• Burj Khalifa Observation Deck – (Levels 124 & 125 “At The Top” advance booking essential). The entrance is through the Dubai Mall basement level.
• Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo   – you can view the world’s largest suspended tank from within the Mall for free or come in for plenty of interactive water life experiences.
• Kidzania Dubai – a real-to-life town where kids “work” to earn Kidzos to spend on fun activities.
• Play DXB (Formerly VR Park) – a virtual reality theme park.
• Dubai Ice Rink   – indoor ice skating fun on a full-sized Olympic rink.
• Dubai Opera – offering a year-round program of incredible entertainment from traditional opera to the best of Westend theatre and internationally acclaimed acts.
• Evening fountain show of Burj Lake , plus LED light show on the Burj Khalifa.
• With the kids, don’t forget the giant Hamleys store, plus The Toy Store in the basement – plenty of FREE fun entertainment!

Dubai Mall is certainly not the only shopping mall with a lot going on.  In fact, Malls are where most summer life circulates around in Dubai during the day. 

You can also try a few more novel indoor ideas in Dubai, such as:

Easy to reach on the Metro (the stop is aptly named Mall of the Emirates), sits about 30 mins away. The Mall of the Emirates is fairly close for those staying at any of the Jumeirah Hotels and only about 10 minutes from the Dubai Marina/JBR area.

• Ski Dubai & penguin encounters – sub-zero temperatures in the peak of summer, yes please!!
• Magic Planet – extensive family entertainment complex including Yalla! Bowling , Highway66 mini bowling and Gravity Air Park – think trampolines!
• Catch the latest flix at the huge Vox Cinema complex
• Dreamscape – VR Experience rooms

Situated south of Dubai city, this great suburban mall is packed with entertainment and dining options. It’s not on the Metro, so you’d need a taxi/Uber . Why not try

• ifly indoor flying simulator gravity-defying indoor fun!
• Sky Trails and Climbing Wall  – part of the Magic Planet kids entertainment centre.
• Massive 20-screen Vox Cinema offers every type of movie screening you can imagine!

A smaller community Mall that’s got a few key fun entertainment attractions for summer! You’ll find it on the Red Metro line (Rostamani Tower is 300m away, a 4 min walk or Financial Centre Metro is about 350m away 5 min walk)

• Adventure Zone by Adventure HQ – offering indoor climbing walls, obstacle courses and more
• Chillout Ice Lounge – enjoy a desert drink in sub-zero temperatures!

One of the city’s newest mega malls has loads of fun new indoor instalments, including:

• Storm Coaster – the world’s largest indoor rollercoaster.
• Adventure Park – climbing walls to rope courses keeping kids active indoors, designed for kids 4+.
• Play DXB – another instalment of the highly popular VR Park as found in Dubai Mall (but with fewer queues for attractions!)

These are the best ones for keeping cool inside, though you may still need to walk outside a little to get to them!

• The Dubai Frame – superb views as well as interactive displays around Dubai’s past and present in Zabeel Park.
• Etihad Museum – learn more about the country’s recent history and journey to unification.
• The Green Planet Dubai – an entirely indoor biodome experience that transports you to a tropical rainforest (warm but much cooler than outside!!) at City Walk.
• La Perle evening extravaganza by Dragone is one of the city’s most highly acclaimed stage shows with a permanent home in Al Habtoor City.

• IMG Worlds of Adventure is the only entirely indoor theme park in Dubai.
• Dubai Parks and Resorts is another favourite family offering, including Legoland Dubai and Motiongate , but as it’s partly outdoors, it may not suit everyone (NB Bollywood Park has now closed permanently). A new addition to the Riverland area kids will love is the indoor place space, Neon Galaxy . And in 2024 we should be welcoming the world’s first football theme park, Real Madrid World .

There’s a good detailed review here what you should expect at Dubai Parks and Resorts in the summer so you are fully prepared for just how hot it can be and what remains open.

• If time permits and you have access to a transfer, our favourite indoor theme park is actually Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi – you can easily access Warner Bros on a day trip from Dubai .

The water parks are the main outdoor attractions that are still in full operation over the hottest summer months in Dubai.

Dubai Waterparks

• Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park (entry included if you stay at Atlantis the Palm).
• Wild Wadi Water Park (Entry included if you stay at one of the Jumeirah hotels – currently not open for public ticket sales).
• Legoland Water Park – best for your smaller kids, based out in Jebel Ali attached to the Dubai Parks & Resorts complex.
• Yas Waterworld (ok this one is actually on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi but it is definitely worth considering as a day trip, alongside the entirely indoors Warner Bros World with a free shuttle service from Dubai)

REMEMBER: Even if you hire a cabana, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade, it can still be excruciatingly hot outside even at a water park. Be mindful of hot surfaces (wear flip-flops or non-slip pool shoes everywhere and be VERY careful of touching surfaces).

Outdoor evening activities to try in Dubai in Summer:

As long as you are prepared for it to still be quite sweaty, even after dark, you could try these evening activities in Dubai once the sun goes down.

• Dubai Garden Glow & Dinosaur Park – previously a winter venue, this park stayed open over Eid evenings last year and looks like it may stick around for a much longer season to light up your balmy evenings.
• Walk around the Al Fahidi neighbourhood , taking in many of the city’s museums and galleries and along the creekfront at Al Seef before catching a traditional abra across the gold and spice souks in Deira.
• The Walk in JBR, a popular outdoor dining district alongside the beach, still has a vibrant nightlife, although outdoor dining is mostly removed in the peak of summer.
• Souk Madinat Jumeirah – a much more modern souk experience. From here, you get the spectacular views back to Burj Al Arab. Mostly indoor and airconditioned, lots of dining options and picturesque waterways.
• A traditional dhow boat around Dubai Fountain Lake – see the Dubai fountains up close in this spectacular evening sound and light show.

Should I do a Dubai desert safari in Summer?

Many desert safari companies do continue to run over the summer, albeit on a reduced program.

We think this depends on how you cope with the heat, but from many years of experience, anything from late May to early October starts to get really sticky outside.

If you are heat lovers you may still enjoy it, but with young kids, I would be extremely cautious of recommending a desert safari in the summer. An option might be to take an early morning desert safari instead to beat the worst heat of the day.

Our favourite attractions in Dubai that are NOT operational in summer (see links to find out when they will re-open, it;s variably around the end of October/early November) include:

• Dubai Miracle Garden
• Global Village Dubai
• Ripe outdoor markets
• Many day safari and beach sporting operators

Many restaurants and attractions do now remain open throughout summer, albeit with significantly reduced programs or only opening in the evenings. Outdoor brunches stop in the summer, and rooftop decks will only open in the evenings, if at all.

It’s always best to check opening hours from Ramadan (April onwards) all the way through summer for anything with an outdoor element.

Where to Stay in Dubai over the Summer

The good news is that the answer is almost anywhere. All Dubai hotels will be airconditioned, and it’s very uncommon to come across a hotel that does not chill their pool in summer.

If you stay in a hotel directly attached to one of the malls or souqs, you will have excellent access to leisure and dining facilities without having to put a foot outside. Why not try;

• Sheraton  at Mall of the Emirates, or top-end hotel, even with a ski lodge suite, try the Kempinski
• Address Dubai Mall and Address Downtown – attached to Dubai Mall
• Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa, attached to Dubai Mall
• Address Dubai Marina attached to Dubai Marina Mall
• Jumeirah Al Naseem attached to Souk Madinat Jumeirah
• InterContinental at Dubai Festival City – very close to DXB airport too
• Jumeirah Beach Hotel attached to Wild Wadi Water Park
• Atlantis the Palm attached to Aquaventure
• Lapita at Dubai Parks & Resorts and Legoland Water Park

Many hotel resorts also include mini water parks, lazy rivers, and kids’ clubs within their grounds. The choices are almost endless, and the summer value can be fantastic. A few suggestions to try:

• Dukes t he Palm – lazy river & Duksey kids club (and stunning infinity pool )
• Le Meridien Mina Seyahi – kids pool & kids club, playground, extensive dining options
• Habtoor Grand Resort – slides, kids pool & infinity pool, indoor playground

For a truly unique experience during your Dubai stopover – and if the budget will stretch – why not stay in a hotel with a private pool?

Summer travellers may also be able to take advantage of the My Emirates Pass, which provides discounts on scores of restaurants, retail stores and attractions, simply by showing you have an Emirates boarding pass (we await details of the 2023 program).

More frequently asked questions about summer in Dubai

It really depends on what you feel is “hot”. Generally speaking, it starts to get too hot for outdoor activity by the end of May. Many seasonal and outdoor events will start to close at the end of April/start of May. You will find little reprieve from the Dubai heat until the end of October.

Dubai can still be really pleasant and enjoyable to visit in the summer if you’re prepared to limit the amount of time you spend outdoors and set your expectations of what is possible to do in the summer heat. If you have an interest in visiting many of the city’s indoor attractions and are happy to leave most of your outdoor activities until after dark , you can still have a great vacation in Dubai in the summer.

This really depends on your tolerance to heat and what you want to do in Dubai. If you’re looking for a beach vacation full of days on the beach and playing in the water with the kids, you may be better off waiting for the weather to cool a little from October through April. If, however, your plans see you flying through Dubai in the hottest months, you can still absolutely fill an itinerary with more indoor activities and stay up later in the evening when the air cools (a little). Life just changes around a little in Dubai to cope with the heat.

Both July and August are extremely hot in Dubai, though the increase in humidity makes August feel like the hottest month.

Experience marine life with over 33000 aquatic animals in the 10 million litres tank at the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater zoo . There is no doubt that the summers in Dubai can be hot. Like really hot! But that doesn’t mean summertime here is dull.

Whether you’re a resident of Dubai or just planning a holiday soon, summer is a great opportunity to explore Dubai. For one, venues are less crowded than during the rest of the year, and there are lots of fun places in and around Dubai! 

With summer soon on the way, we asked everyone in the office what their favourite things to do in Dubai during summer are.

How hot does it get in Dubai in the summer?

Every desert usually gets extremely hot, particularly in summer. You were not expecting Dubai to be an exception, were you? Though standing tall in magnificent elegance and extreme beauty, the gorgeous city is still what it is- a desert. Well, I guess you know how hot deserts could be in summer (even if you haven’t been in one).

The truth is, Dubai, like all deserts, gets hot, especially during summer, which runs from middle May down to October. August happens to be the hottest month of summer in Dubai.

In August, It can get so hot that you feel like you’re halfway far from boiling. Technically, that’s not a false assumption because the temperature gets as high as 50°C. That’s an equal degree far from boiling water.

If you have packed your bags ready to take the next flight to Abu Dhabi this summer, don’t be discouraged. The city is beautifully designed to accommodate every one of us, come summer, winter, heat, or cold. So yay! Don’t unpack those bags just yet. I know helpful tips that will help you get through even the hottest month in summer.

Tips for dealing with the heat in Dubai

Drink as much water as you can.

The sun gets quite scorchy during summer, and you will want to avert the dehydration that comes with the piercing effect of the sun. So how do you curb the dehydrating effect of the scorching heat? By drinking as much water as possible and as necessary.

I cannot possibly exhaust all the beneficial effects of drinking water during summer. Water helps you stay hydrated and reenergizes you as you survey the nice-looking metropolis. In addition, you keep tiredness at bay when you drink more water, as severe fatigue is linked to long-standing dehydration.

Water enhances the circulation of your entire body and, most importantly, the motility of your GIT as you move. The chances of you sweating increases, and you lose electrolytes. Your body needs to replenish all that has been lost. This alone counts as a reason why you should drink water.

In summary, tagging along with a water bottle as you move around Dubai is worth it, specifically in summer.

Stay in an Air-conditioned Lodge

The United Arab Emirates can get hot. Staying in a lodge not equipped to deal with the extreme heat can make your situation worse.

The good news is, AC rooms happen to be a popular thing around the city and even in neighbouring cities like Abu Dhabi. So regardless of your budget while on vacation in Dubai , you have a higher chance of getting a lodge prepared to deal with the heat than one that is not.

Fortunately, many hotels make visits to Dubai during the summer less demanding. Many of them are created with swimming pools, fully air-conditioned bars, and luxurious spas to condone the heat.

That usually will fall in your budget, even if you bring in your whole family. But, summer will be fun for you all.

Wear Light Clothes!

I may need to scream this tip again if you probably ignored the heading above. So again, wear light clothes. It is one of the essential tips you must consider while packing clothes convenient for a visit to Dubai in summer.

In choosing clothes to travel with to the beautiful city, you should stick with clothes that do conform to how the natives in the region dress. These clothes should not stick to your body, and your choice of clothes should absorb less heat. So, yes. Packing up a thick black dress to Dubai on a summer meeting is a no. Wearing a thin white fabric and other lightly coloured fabrics will help you immensely on a summer visit.

Go Sight-seeing Earlier in the Day, or Much Later

Even if you have worn layers of sun protection cream before dashing into the sun, staying under the sun is not advice to anyone. Staying indoors on sunny days will prevent you from getting a sunburn or too much of a tan. If you must go outside anyway, going earlier in the morning or much later in the evening to see the town is a better option.

If your adventure choice will require you to walk on your feet for a long distance, setting out in the morning of the adventure is the best bet. However, earlier in the morning is a better choice. So for an adventure trip in the morning, setting out at 7 am, before the sun rises, is the right time to start a journey so you can at least get to your destination before the sun becomes scorching at noon. Wear good shoes and take a bottle of water right along.

For events and adventures that can be carried out at night, taking the option of when the sun relapses back to its cave is the best option. Visiting the parks at night is more enjoyable.

Avoid Heavy Meals

Trying out new kinds of food is perhaps top of our priority list when we visit somewhere new, or a place like Dubai for pure fun. First, of course, it’s relatively good to explore, but when your visiting Dubai happens to coincide with the notorious Dubai summer; eating less will do you more good in curbing the heat.

Eating smaller meals will make your body uses less energy to digest the food you take, so less heat is produced. A heavy meal has the opposite effect. That means that your body will expend more energy in digesting food. Trying out several kinds of food is enticing, I understand. A little of every food, however, will keep the heat away.

The Sunscreen Will Come in Handy

Applying a generous dose of sunscreen with an SPF protection above 30 on your face and other exposed areas will work magic in protecting you against the dangerous effect of sunburn as you have fun outdoors. Making sure your sunscreen is of a noble brand is also just as pertinent as getting sunscreen. A sunscreen that offers no sun protection is as good as not putting on any, trust me on this.

I would have suggested you stay indoors and take in fun indoor activities throughout your stay in Dubai. But, if you want to step out, you can visit attractive indoor sites like the Ski Dubai, ski resort, the Dubai aquarium, and incredible shopping malls as an excellent solution to curb the heat in the city. But, why limit the fun when you can have more?

Dubai is built, so you explore its splendour every time. But, you should know that the summer heat will be your hindrance to the endless fun you can have outdoors only if you allow it.

10 places to visit in Dubai in summer

Dubai is truly the perfect place for you to spend all your holidays at any time of the year, even in summer. Once your legs touch the ground of the metropolis at the Dubai International Airport, you notice how Dubai has its generous share of famous attractions and spectacular views of nature. The beautiful beaches speak volumes about the endless entertainment options you have. Some of these options I have highlighted for you below.

1. Burj Khalifa

The truth remains that you can’t come to Dubai without visiting the first wonder of modern world architecture- Burj Khalifa .

Standing at almost 850m tall, the Burj Khalifa remains unbeatable in being the tallest building in the whole world. Fortunately, the stunning architectural beauty is located close to the magnificent Dubai Mall. It has indeed drawn visitors worldwide since its first opening in 2010, all keen to feel and see its elegance. Burj Khalifa doesn’t only offer modern architectural beauty. It gives a perfect view from its observation decks of breathtaking beaches and other marvellous sights.

The building itself is fully equipped to help you enjoy the hottest summer months, but not far from it is the Dubai Mall, which perhaps draws even more people to it. If you’re visiting Dubai for the first time, then a visit to the Dubai mall is as essential as the world’s tallest building.

2. Green Planet, Dubai

If you are a lover of nature like I am, Green Planet is a place you will love to be. Amid nature.

This tropical forest is home to diverse plants and beautiful animal species. The enormous variety of plants, animals, and insects make Green Planet the most exciting and blossoming forest in the tropic.

Green Planet, located at City Walk, Al Wasl, offers an excellent indoor experience for you if you adore nature in its purest form. Another exciting thing about the Green Planet is, it is manufactured from scratch. Toucans and sloths are typical to this forest, mimicking how it is in the tropics. The opening hours of the Green Planet are Sunday to Saturday, 10:00 am with6:00 pm, with affordable prices to keep your younger kids awed as much as you are.

Seeing, they say, is believing. So the spectacular indoor atmosphere of nature’s hub is something you should add immediately to your wish list.

3. Ski Dubai

Located close to the Malls of the Emirates, Ski Dubai is the largest indoor ski resort in the United Arab Emirates. It is the first indoor Ski resort to begin fun activities in the heart of Dubai.

Going to a cold place for fun activities is a thoughtful option during the intense summer heat. Ski Dubai, an indoor snow park, is the best bet. It spans a total area of about 3,000m2 and is filled with 22,500m2 of snow. The fantastic thing is that the Skiing range is maintained at sub-zero temperatures all year round.

This snow park is located at Sheikh Zayed Rd, Dubai – United Arab Emirates. It opens its doors from 10 am-1 am

4. Dubai Aquarium And Underwater Zoo

Dubai aquarium gives you the chance to explore the marine life and underwater world from a distance and at your comfort without heat stress.

The gigantic Dubai aquarium doubles as an underwater zoo, a home to over 30,000 species of aquatic animals. The aquarium is one of the most beautiful in the world. It is also right in the city of Dubai- at the magnificent Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai.

The aquarium grants you the chance to see species of aquatic animals you may have never seen live, safe for pictures on the internet. You experience the ecstasy of this adventure at quite an affordable price as well. Have you ever seen a live seahorse or piranha fish? Grab the chance to see one at the underwater Zoo. You can explore the underwater zoo world without limitations and in the heat of the summer.

The aquarium opens 10 am- 10 pm Sundays to Wednesdays, and 10 am-12 am on Thursdays to Saturdays.

5. IMG World of Adventures

Right in the city of Dubai lies the world’s Largest Indoor Theme Park, IMG worlds of adventure.

The IMG World of Adventures is a must-visit for you, especially if this is your first time in Dubai in the summer. The indoor theme park is perfect for every member of your family to have fun, take on new adventures and save memories of the beauty of the experience.

I mean that IMG world offers top-notch entertainment for everyone. Your young kids would find this place adorable. Series of exciting animations are aired on the Cartoon Network, aside from the varied indoor activities your kids will enjoy.

IMG Worlds of Adventure is located on E311 of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, near the Arabian Ranches, a few minutes from the Global village in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It remains accessible from any part of the United Arab Emirates and far beyond via private cars, taxis, private coaches, and airplanes.

The World of Adventures and largest Indoor Theme Park is not great if you are journeying from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Touring from the Abu Dhabi International Airport to the IMG world of adventures won’t take you more than an hour and 30 minutes, I promise.

IMG World Theme Park remains open from 11 am-9 pm from Sundays to Wednesdays, and 11 am to 10 pm from Thursdays to Saturdays. Minor changes, nevertheless, are made during Ramadan.

6. Mall of the Emirates

At a point, it became a rumor that whatever you can’t find in the Mall of the Emirates , you may not find anywhere else in the whole of Dubai. The validity of the talk cannot be reargued as this proved true. If you doubt the truth of it, you should check out the malls yourself.

The mall births other entertainment options: examples include the Magic Planet family, world-class restaurants, and the Dubai mall itself only betters the famous Dubai Ski and its ambiance. It is located at the 4th interchange, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Barsha, adjacent to the Kempinski Hotel in Dubai.

It is a place you will love to be and shop in this summer.

7. Dubai Dolphinarium

All my life, I’ve never seen anyone who would want to hate the friendly dolphins. Such sweet creatures. Who wouldn’t love them?

The Dolphinarium is an aquarium solely for sea mammals – Dolphins and several seals. It holds a Dolphin and Seal Show for its visitors. Seeing these mammals display some animated features will give you a good laugh this summer. Having a good laugh helps cool the temperature of your body too.

The City of Dolphins is located at City Walk, Al Wasl.

The opening hours of the Dolphinarium are from 10 am to 6 pm every day. You will want to get there earlier to experience firsthand the dolphin dance I’m talking about. You may learn the dolphin dance sooner than you expect to.

8. Wild Wadi Water park

The waterpark is located beside the Jumeriah Burj Al Arab, and it is themed around the history of Arabian culture. The waterpark provides fun rides and slides for your children. It would give your children this intense adrenaline rush feeling they always desire to experience.

The waterpark is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.

For your young ones this summer, allowing them to enjoy the pleasure of splashing in a waterpark in Dubai this summer will mean a great deal.

9. Museum Of Illusions

It is a family-packed vacation deal for every family member, with engaging illusion experiences, anti-gravity rooms, and spinning tunnels to play your mind, a kind of adventure you may have never encountered.

The location of the museum is at Al Seef – Dubai Creek. On Mondays to Thursdays, the museum remains open from 10:00 am – 10:00 pm, Fridays and Saturdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 pm

10. Dubai Creek 

The Dubai creek is a salt-water man-made creek located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Dubai Creek extended previously to Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, making it the best place to get some stunning views of wildlife species.

A unique feature of this Creek is sailing via yachts and similar cruise boats, also active during nighttime. You can enjoy your dinner as the cruise sails through the crystal clear waters of the Creek. In addition, sightseeing of the beautiful city of Dubai and entertainment activities are scheduled while onboard the cruise. It is an experience you will want to go through again and forever.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is lovely all year round. Spending the summer in Dubai isn’t at any point a horrible experience if you’ve planned to holiday in this city in this period of heat. Dubai: Want to visit some of Dubai’s famous outdoor attractions before they close for the summer? Eid Al Fitr is the ideal time to experience these must-see places before they take a break during the summer months, before they reopen around September or October.

1. global village - closes on april 28, 2024.

This month, one of the UAE’s most famous outdoor attractions, Global Village , will end its 28th season after opening its doors six months ago in October 2023.

Explore the country pavilions, street food, entertainment shows, restaurants, weekly fireworks, and the Global Village Carnaval, which boasts over 195 rides, games, and attractions.

You can buy the tickets at the location but if you buy them online through the Global Village website - www.globalvillage.ae, you will get a 10 per cent discount . - Any day tickets – Dh30 (Dh27 online) - Weekday tickets – Dh25 (Dh22.50 online)

Timings - from 4pm to 2am during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Location - The attraction is located on Mohamed Bin Zayed Road (E311) between the Arabian Ranches residential development and the IMG Worlds of Adventure theme park.

You can also reach Global Village by public transportation. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) operates direct bus routes to the family destination. Here are all the bus routes on the dedicated Global Village service within Dubai:

1. Route 102 - From Al Rashidiya Bus Station Gate 5 in Rashidiya 2. Route 103 - From Union Square Bus Station in Deira 3. Route 104 - From Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Al Fahidi 4. Route 106 - From the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station 5. Route 107 - From Al Nahda (behind Sahara Centre)

2. Dubai Miracle Garden - closes on June 2, 2024

In two months, Dubai Miracle Garden , the world’s largest natural flower garden, will end its 12th season.

The park boasts more than 150 million flowers and at least 120 varieties of plants, with the entire park spanning 72,000 square metres, filled with sculptures covered in flowers.

One of the most famous attractions at Dubai Miracle Garden is the Guinness World Record-breaking floral sculpture, which is in the shape of an Emirates Airbus A380. Another record-breaking attraction is the 18-metre sculpture of Mickey Mouse made with 100,000 plants and flowers.

- Dh95 for individuals above 12 years old. - Dh80 for children from three to 12 years old. - Free for children below three years old and People of Determination. There is also a 50 per cent discount on ticket fares for one adult accompanying the Person of Determination.

Timings - Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm and 9am to 10pm on weekends.

Location - Dubai Miracle Garden is in Al Barsha South, Street 3 in Dubailand, at the cross-section of Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Umm Suqeim Road (D63).

If you want to reach Dubai Miracle Garden by using public transport, you can first take the Metro to the Mall of Emirates (MOE) Metro Station and take the bus route 105 from MOE to Dubai Miracle Garden.

3. Dubai Safari Park - Closes on May 31, 2024

Dubai Safari Park, which is home to around 3,000 animals on a 119-hectare site will also end its 2023-2024 season soon, after opening in October 2023. According to the park's website, visitors can only book tickets till May 31, 2024.

The park is divided into different enclosures, representing wildlife from around the world. While you are there you can spot the African lion, Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelle, cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, impalas, elephants, and zebras.

There are various packages offered by Dubai Safari Park, based on what the visitors would like to do. The normal individual tickets start from: - Dh50 for adults - Dh20 for children from the ages of three to 12 years old.

Location - The Dubai Safari Park is in the Al Warqa 4 district, off E44 (Ras Al Khor Road). If you want to take public transportation, you can take the bus route F10 from Rashidiya Bus Station.

Nine outdoor places to visit in the UAE before temperatures soar

A lthough it is starting to warm up, evenings in the UAE still remain cool and enjoyable. This means there are still a number of outdoor attractions that are worth a visit before it gets too hot.

While some attractions such as Global Village and Dubai Miracle Garden will close for the summer in preparation of its next season, others outdoor areas such as Abu Dhabi's Jubail Mangrove Park and Hudayriyat Island are open year round. However, they are best enjoyed during cooler months.

So, for those who are looking to enjoy what's left of the al fresco season, here’s where to go.

Global Village

Global Village’s 27th season will close on April 30. When the venue opened in October, it celebrate several new attractions, including a 660-square-metre House of Fear, Big Balloon observation experience, Diggers Lab for children to play and learn at a themed building site and Heroes Gallery, a movie memorabilia exhibition. An eco-friendly ice rink also made its debut.

Other new activities include Road of Asia, a street with 43 kiosks that offer food and products from countries not represented in the pavilions, such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Brunei, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal, Bhutan and the Philippines.

A total of 27 country pavilions were set up this season, with new participants including Qatar and Oman. Visitors can also enjoy more than 170 rides and games in its carnival section.

Dubai Miracle Garden

Although its closing date hasn’t been announced yet, the outdoor attraction closes for the summer in preparation for its next season. According to the Dubai Miracle Garden website, there are more than 150 million flowers on display in the 72,000-square-metre grounds.

One of the most popular attractions is the Emirates A380 aircraft made from flowers, as well as an Instagram-friendly floating lady, Smurfs village, a floral clock and a sunflower field. The picturesque displays aren't limited to the horticultural, with an umbrella tunnel and lake providing colourful backdrops.

Around the park, you'll also find giant horse busts, a cartoon-like elephant, heart-shaped arches and a fairy tale-style castle.

Hatta Wadi Hub

The activity centre will close on May 5. It opened its fifth season in September with a new adventure ropes course for children and adults. With its rugged Hajar mountains backdrop, Hatta Wadi Hub offers plenty of adventure and activities, from downhill carting, zorbing, a human slingshot and axe throwing, to archery, free-fall jumps, wall climbing and trampolining.

Dubai Safari Park

The park will close for the summer on May 31. It reopened in September with new entertainment and educational experiences, as well as a number of new animals.

With more than half a million visitors last season, Dubai Safari Park spans 119 hectares and provides climate-suitable habitats for thousands of creatures. Expect to see animals such as an Ankole-Watusi cow, Eland antelope, Arabian oryx, Nile crocodile and water buffalo.

Visitors can also explore themed areas such as the African or Asian villages, the Arabian Desert Safari, Explorer Village and Valley. There are also a variety of entertainment shows taking place throughout the day, plus restaurants and cafes dotted about.

Dubai Garden Glow

Dubai Garden Glow will also close for the summer, although the date has not yet been announced. It reopened for its eight season on September 12 with a host of new exhibits.

The Zabeel Park attraction features hundreds of colourful lanterns that move and sparkle, created using more than 10 million energy-saving light bulbs. It's newest addition, the Glowing Safari, features dozens of lanterns shaped like animals and flowers, while one of the attraction's popular areas, the Dinosaur Park, features more than 100 animatronic dinosaurs.

In Abu Dhabi

Jubail mangrove park.

Although Jubail Mangrove Park in Abu Dhabi stays open year-round, it is best enjoyed while temperatures remain on the cooler side as there is very little shade while walking around its boardwalk, which has three different routes. The longest one stretches two kilometres, the mid-range one is 1.6km and the shortest is 1km. The longest route can take anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes depending on pace.

Throughout the park, visitors can get up close and personal with wildlife such as birds ― herons and flamingos are some of the species found here — fish and crustaceans. There are also education nodes along the way. These include the floating platform (which allows guests a closer glimpse of marine life); power of the sea (a viewing space); roots of the mangrove (a dedicated area to see the roots of the trees); viewing tower (offering higher vantage points); salt collector (“water collectors” at different levels to highlight the changing tides) and beach tower (a low-level platform that gives visitors a chance to get their feet wet).

The waterfront lifestyle destination stays open year-round, but is good to enjoy during the cooler season as it has mostly offers outdoor seating. There are food trucks for visitors to explore, as well as a children's play area and street art murals. In keeping with the port setting, the retail units are housed in recycled shipping containers, which have been given a colourful update with street art and graffiti.

Hudayriyat Island

Hudayriyat Island also stays open throughout the summer, but because there are so many things connected to outdoor activities, it's best to visit now before it gets too hot. The 3,000-hectare island is a community with a focus on fitness and nature . Cycling and jogging tracks, a sprawling obstacle course, courts and other activity areas such as a skate and BMX park can be found on the island.

The island is connected to Abu Dhabi via a suspension bridge that is an extension of Sheikh Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street. Aside from the main road, the island can also be accessed through cycling lanes.

Sharjah Safari

The Sharjah Safari will be closed from June 1 until August 31. The sprawling wildlife attraction covers an area of eight square kilometres and is located in Al Bridi Nature Reserve in the city of Al Dhaid in Sharjah.

The safari claims to be the largest outside Africa. It is home to more than 1,000 animals and birds and 120 species, including 70 species and rare animals native to Africa, the rarest of which is the black rhinoceros. More than 1,000 native and African trees, including the umbrella-shaped acacia tortilis, have been planted across the site.

It's separated into 12 themed environments, each representing a region in Africa, and the life and terrain of the animals and birds that live in them.

Laurel Highlands, Pennsylvania

It’s approximately 3,000 square miles and includes three counties: Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland. At least 20 people are now known to have died in a wild storm that swept across The Gulf.

Parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw a year and half’s rainfall in one day.

Air travel remains in chaos, particularly in hard hit Dubai, with the emirate’s airport – the world’s second busiest air hub – declaring it was facing “very challenging conditions”.

Startling images have emerged from Dubai including of the immense rains and wind bringing down structures, sports cars driving through flooded roads and even the rescue of a cat that was clinging onto a car door on a water logged street.

At least 20 deaths

Oman, which neighbours the UAE, has recorded 19 deaths including a girl whose body was found in the city of Saham on the country’s Gulf coast.

In the UAE itself, a man in his seventies died when his vehicle was swept away in flash floods in the Ras al Khaimah emirate, north of Dubai.

Local news outlet The National said he was attempting to travel through a flooded waterway as heavy rain hit.

Worst rain for 75 years

The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) said 255mm of rain came down in 24 hours near Al Ain, on the Oman border.

With the UAE averaging between 140mm and 200mm of rain each year, that amount far exceeds the annual usual total.

Oman said it had received its worst rain for 75 years.

A video was posted to social media of people battling in the fierce rain with roofs and ceilings being torn off buildings around them.

Conditions have eased on Wednesday, local time. The UAE has announced the “end of the weather fluctuations” but that it would take time for the country to return to normal.

Cat rescued from floods

Dubai police did countless rescues on Tuesday but one was notable.

The force released a video to Twitter, now known as X, of officers spotting a black and white cat clinging to the handle on a car door on a flooded street.

The cat, with some protest and several growls, was brought onto a police boat and taken to safety.

Airport remains in chaos

Dubai International Airport, the home of Emirates and the world’s second busiest airport, is under particular pressure.

Over the last 24 hours it has diverted 21 flights to nearby Abu Dhabi Airport which is faring far better.

Other flights have seen severe delays with passengers unable to get to the airport or to leave it.

“We advise you NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary,” said the airport on social media.

“Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. We are working hard to recover operations as quickly as possible in very challenging conditions.”

Footage circulating on social media showed the airport completely flooded at times on Tuesday.

Clips show the tarmac drowning in water as planes try to navigate their way through what now looks like a marina.

Footage of an Emirates plane at its gate could be seen completely surrounded by water.

Emirates suspended all check in for passengers until Wednesday morning to battle the backlog.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. Emirates is working hard to restore our scheduled operations, and our teams will provide all possible support to affected customers,” it said in a statement.

One video shared to Instagram by digital creator Jay Robert showed an Emirates flight attendant dragging her luggage through knee-high waters as the footage cuts to inside what appears to be the airport – also flooded.

“Proof nothing will stand between crew and sleep, Emirates crew wade flood waters in Dubai in efforts to get home after long flights,” the caption read.

“Several Emirates crew wrote in to say this is the worst flooding they’ve seen in the city in nearly 20 years.”

Similar scenes were repeated across Dubai and elsewhere in the UAE as the oil-rich Gulf state, better known for its arid climate and intense summer heat, reeled from the storm.

Both the Oman and the UAE, which hosted last year’s COP28 UN climate talks, have previously warned that global warming is likely to lead to more flooding.

“It is highly likely that the deadly and destructive rain in Oman and Dubai was made heavier by human-caused climate change,” Otto, of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change at Imperial College London, said.

Meanwhile, Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates both suffered flooding and water was ankle-deep in at least one Dubai Metro station, according to images posted on social media.
