Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp’n on his boat with an animal crossing player

Kapp’n, the lovable kappa (not turtle), has arrived in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 roster. He’s settled down on your island’s pier, ready to captain a little boat that’ll deliver you to different islands with unique landscapes, through Kapp’n’s Boat Tours.

In this Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp’n guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the crooning kappa’s arrival: Kapp’n history, what you can expect from his boat rides to mysterious islands that only he knows about, the price you’ll pay in Nook Miles for a trip and a sea shanty, and what you have to do before Kapp’n shows up .

Table of contents

Who is kapp’n, how do kapp’n’s boat tours work, how do i unlock kapp’n.

What are the islands?

Can I do anything while he’s singing?

Kapp’n is a kappa, a mythical, turtle-like, Japanese folktale monster, known for operating different methods of transport. In previous Animal Crossing games, he’s driven taxis and buses, but in New Horizons , he’s returned to his sailing roots.

From your island’s dock, he’ll lead you mysterious islands. Kapp’n’s Boat Tours cost 1,000 Nook Miles per trip, and he’ll sing you a sweet song on the way. Players are only allowed one boat ride per day.

kapp’n boat tour at night

Kapp’n will take you to a random island, different from those you can get from a Nook Mystery Tour . There are a bunch of different islands that Kapp’n will take you to, and they’ve all got something special going for them — some have exotic flora, while others are in different seasons or times of day. They’re also helpful for farming seasonal items, like snowflakes or mushrooms.

Kapp’n won’t appear on your island unless and until you’ve made some progress in the base game (the part of the game that existed before the 2.0 update). We’ve confirmed (with extensive testing) that you have to do the following before Kapp’n arrives:

  • Unlock Resident Services , so that Isabelle shows up in your town.
  • Get a three-star town rating , so that K.K. Slider performs in your town.
  • The day after K.K. Slider performs, Isabelle tells you that ordinances have been unlocked and that you can go on special boat tours , which is a reference to our beloved Kapp’n.

Kapp’n docked at the … dock in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Kapp’n will dock his boat on your empty New Horizons pier. When you start your game after the update is downloaded, he’ll be waiting for you there on the boat — no unlocking necessary.

If you happen to visit Blathers before, he’ll also push you toward the pier: To unlock Brewster , you’ve got to take one of Kapp’n’s tours to find the pigeon coffee slinger looking for gyroids.

After a brief song, you’ll arrive with Kapp’n at a mystery island. They’re random, and you can’t choose where you’ll dock. Here are some we’ve seen so far:

  • Crop islands , islands filled with wheat, pumpkins, tomatoes, or other crops
  • Shooting star island , where shooting stars are abundant, and star fragments come from rocks
  • Vine and glowing moss island , with vine and glowing moss, which doesn’t grow natively on your home island
  • Money tree island , where all trees grow Bell bags
  • Winter island , a place to catch snowflakes out of season
  • Cherry blossom island , where the trees are still pink and you can catch cherry blossoms
  • Acorn/pinecone/mushroom island , a fall island where acorns, pinecones , and mushrooms litter the ground

Regardless of the island, search around and dig up anything hidden, too: Sometimes, you’ll find gyroid fragments hidden underground or DIY recipes bottled up on the beach.

You can’t skip Kapp’n’s song, and how dare you for asking!? Just kidding. But you don’t have to just sit there. You can clap along to the beat (or not) by hitting the A button. You can use Reactions, too, with the other buttons on the right side of the Nintendo Switch.

If you’re in a rush, you can also get him to skip his singing by mashing the B button, but you would never interrupt a singing kappa, right?

Update (Nov. 11): We’ve added information about skipping Kapp’n’s sea shanty.

Update (Nov. 12): We’ve added information that explains what you must do before Kapp’n appears the dock.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) Guides

Kapp’n boat tours & new mystery islands.

kappa tours acnh

Kapp’n is a green turtle you can find offering special boat tours to islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn where to find him, how to take a boat tour, and the islands you can visit in this guide.

Newly introduced in the massive Version 2.0 Update released on November 3rd , you’ll need to have your copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons fully updated to experience Kapp’n and his boat tours.

What Are Kapp’n Boat Tours In Animal Crossing?

Kapp’n Boat Tours offer a new way to discover unique and mysterious islands from faraway in Animal Crossing: New Horizons — different from the mystery islands that Dodo Airline have been able to take you to since launch!

kappa tours acnh

These brand new mysterious islands will often offer new special items that can’t be found on your own home island, like new types of flora such as vines and bushes. We suspect there might even be new types of fruits too, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Additionally, Kapp’n can take you to islands that of a different season or weather than your home island. For example, when your date is set to July in the Northern Hemisphere, you might visit an island that’s in Winter allowing you to catch different fish or bugs!

kappa tours acnh

In fact, these out-of-season islands can even feature special seasonal materials like Snowflakes , or items from a different time of day like wishing for Star Fragments.

How To Take Kapp’n Boat Tours & Visit Islands

You can take a boat tour with Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by visiting your island’s Pier in the bottom left or bottom right of the map, depending on the layout.

kappa tours acnh

Simply walk up to Kapp’n on the Pier and he’ll ask for you for a small fee of 1,000 Nook Miles currency per round-trip to a mysterious island! You don’t need to purchase Nook Miles Tickets for Kapp’n.

Note that you can unfortunately only set sail with Kapp’n for a mystery island once per in-game day . Of course, impatient players can time travel to get ahead if they desire.

Kapp’n Island Materials

While exploring the Mystery Islands that Kapp’n takes you to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may discover some new materials and plants you haven’t seen anywhere else! That’s because some very exciting new items have been introduced on Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands.

An extremely useful new type of item, Vines can be found on Kapp’n Islands and can be placed on your island’s cliffs to climb up them — essentially as a makeshift ladder that looks much cooler!

Additionally, there are many new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Vines as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Glowing Moss

Perfect for night-time decoration, Glowing Moss is a new type of plant that can be found on Kapp’n Islands somewhat similar to weeds and flowers. Unlike other plants though, the Glowing Moss features a subtle glow during the evening making for a great night-time effect!

Just like with Vines, there new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Glowing Moss as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Plumeria Bushes

A new type of bush called Plumeria can be found on Kapp’n Islands in two different Pink and White color options! In the Northern Hemisphere, they bloom in season from June 1st to September 20th. Learn more about Bushes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons here.

Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands

There are many different mysterious islands you can visit by taking a Kapp’n Boat Tour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0! We’re beginning to research all of them and will list them below as we do.

While the exact contents of each island can vary, we’ve generally found that a Gyroid Fragment is buried in the ground every time.

Vine & Glowing Moss Island

kappa tours acnh

On this special island seen during the Animal Crossing Direct, many brand new materials can be collected including Vines, Glowing Moss, and Plumeria Bushes.

Bell Trees Island

On this unique island, you can find multiple Money Trees containing bags of 1,000 Bells each on them. Simply shake the trees to get your free Bells!

Vegetable Farm Islands

kappa tours acnh

There are multiple different islands that can be discovered with abandoned farms on them. As part of these farms, you can find all of the of the new vegetable crops in Version 2.0 including Carrots, Wheat, Sugarcane, Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Pumpkins.

Star Fragment Island

On this dazzling island, beautiful shooting stars will race across the sky! Star Fragments can be found all over the land including on the beach and even inside of Rocks if you smash them with a shovel. Be sure to check the beach for an appropriate DIY Crafting recipe in a message bottle too!

Seasonal Islands

There are multiple different islands covering each major season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! On these islands, you can find both the exclusive seasonal materials and crafting recipes of seasons including Spring Cherry Blossoms, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and more.

How Kapp'n boat tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons work and what are the perks

What to expect from these new random islands on Kapp'n boat tours

Kapp'n on his boat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp'n boat tours are here, and the lazy little turtle himself is ready to take you on some boat tours that can earn you some seriously good stuff. It's worth noting that you can only go on one Kapp'n boat tour a day, so make it count. Clear your pockets of anything unessential and make sure you've got plenty of time to make the most of what's on offer.

Here's everything you need to know about Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp'n boat tours, which have arrived as part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0 :

How Kapp'n boat tours work and the cost

Kapp'n on his boat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Each Kapp'n boat tour costs 1000 Nook Miles, but it comes with the caveat of only being able to take one per day.

Kapp'n can be found on his boat at the pier on your island and will take you to remote islands that are similar to those you'll visit using Dodo Airlines. However, they're a little more exciting than those, which is why Kapp'n is rationing out visits.

Once you've paid your toll though, you'll zip off on Kapp'n speedboat to a random island, and all the way he'll sing you one of his famous sea shanties. If you press A, you can clap along with them too.

Kapp'n on his boat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Clap away by all means, but also pay attention to the weather conditions of your boat trip as it may well hint at the island you're about to visit.

If you've flown via Dodo Airlines to any islands, there are some similarities here. If you need tools, for example, Kapp'n can sell you flimsy ones for Nook Miles, and there's always a workbench on every island for emergency crafting.

What makes Kapp'n boat tour islands special?

The magic thing about Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp'n boat tours is that the islands you'll visit may exist in a different time of day or season to your own island. That means the possibility of collecting any of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fish , Animal Crossing: New Horizons bugs , or Animal Crossing: New Horizons sea creatures that you may have missed. They may also feature other unusual items, like flowers not native to your own island, different bushes that you can dig up and take home, and even brand new items like climbable vines. Here are some of the things you may find via a Kapp'n boat trip:

  • Money trees - Reap the financial benefits of multiple money trees each carrying 3000 bells each
  • Seasonal recipes - Message in a bottle recipes can be related to the season that island exists in, such as Cherry Blossom recipes or Mushroom recipes.
  • New 'Glowing Moss' recipes - Recipes linked to the new glowing moss flora that you can find on Kapp'n trips
  • Food recipes
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gyroids and Gyroid fragments
  • Star fragments - Can be found inside rocks

You will find Kapp'n at the pier on your island. Talk to him and pay 1000 Nook Miles to go on a boat tour, where you can find gyroids, shrubs, and more.

How to Unlock Kapp'n

Where to find kapp'n, how to go on a boat tour, reactions during sea shanties, skip the sea shanty, buying tools on the island, seasonal recipes and craft items, find gyroid fragments, find a money rock, find money trees, find star fragment rocks, dig up produce starts, dig up shrubs and flowers, finding brewster.

Kapp'n is part of the free 2.0 update . His boat tours become available after your first K.K. Slider concert , and after you have used the free Nook Miles Ticket that Tom Nook gives you.

Kapp'n can be found at the pier on the beach of your island.

Talk to Kapp'n to go on a boat tour. You can go on a boat tour once a day. It costs 1000 Nook Miles to go on the tour.

Kapp'n will sing a sea shanty on the way to the island, and again on your way back to your home island. During Kapp'n's sea shanties, you can press A to clap, X to laugh, and Y to express shock.

You can skip the sea shanties by pressing B repeatedly.

While on a boat tour island, you can talk to Kapp'n to spend Nook Miles buy tools.

Different Time of Year

The island that you land on may be in a different time of year from your home island. For a list of bugs, fish, and sea creatures available at a Kapp'n island, check Today's Bugs, Fish, and Sea Creatures .

On Kapp'n islands that are in a specific season, you can find the crafting items from that season, such as young spring bamboo, cherry blossoms, snowflakes, etc. In addition, the bottled message on the beach will have a seasonal recipe from that season.

There is a chance of finding a buried gyroid fragment on boat tour islands.

There is a chance that one of the rocks on the boat tour island will be a money rock.

There is a small chance that the trees on a Kapp'n island will have money trees instead of fruit trees.

There is a rare chance of finding an island where you will get star fragments from hitting the rocks. This island will also have some star fragments on the beach, and will have a lot of shooting stars that you can wish on; the shooting stars will occur for four hours after you arrive on the island.

The island that you go to may have fully grown produce on it that you can harvest and use in cooking . You can then use a shovel to dig up the produce starts and take them back to your island to grow.

You can also find shrubs and flowers on Kapp'n islands, which you can dig up and take back to your island.

If you haven't unlocked The Roost Café yet, you can find Brewster on a boat tour island. Read The Roost Café page for more information.

Animal Crossing Kapp'n's Boat Tours: Where to find Kapp'n's Boat Tours, cost and island explained

Do you think he'll sing Sea Shanty 2?

Kapp'n has finally arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons !

Staying true to his seafaring roots, he'll offer you a spot on one of his Kapp'n's Boat Tours - sea shanty included. For a small Nook Mile cost , of course!

Every Kapp'n Boat Tour will bring you to an island hidden out in the sea where you might find something which doesn't grow on your island, among other surprises.

On this page:

Kapp'n's Boat Tours location and cost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Islands visited in kapp'n's boat tours in animal crossing: new horizons explained.

Cover image for YouTube video

If you want to take a boat tour with Kapp'n in New Horizons, then you need to visit the little pier which sits against either your island's western or eastern shore.

kappa tours acnh

It's important to remember that this is not the pier connected to Dodo Airlines and, instead, is where you'll catch fish like Blue Marlins or Tuna .

Every trip with Kapp'n will cost you 1,000 Nook Miles , but he will sing you a sea shanty so it's worth the expense. Kapp'n will only let you sail with him once per day though, so make sure you make the most of your trip.

kappa tours acnh

Before you sail off into the sunset, however, we recommend ensuring you only have your tools in your inventory. This is because you might find some rare items on the island Kapp'n takes you to and it would be a shame to miss out on them due to having full pockets.

Once you're on the boat, sit back and enjoy Kapp'n's singing and, if you feel like it, press A to clap along.

kappa tours acnh

Remember - you can only access Kapp'n's Boat Tours, you must first download the Ver.2.0 patch for New Horizons.

The Animal Crossing 2.0 update and Happy Home Paradise is here! We can help you with the new additions - including where to find Brewster , Gyroids , new villagers , ordinances , new fences , storage shed , new hairstyles , Froggy Chair , group stretching and Kapp'n boat tours . Cooking is now unlockable, so you need to know how to make both flour and sugar , as well as how to grow carrots, potatoes and tomatoes . Meanwhile, if you're new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help with the basics. From the off, there's fish and bugs to catch , flowers and fruit to grow with. One long term goal is building your Happy Home Academy score . Finally, you need tools such as the new ladder and vaulting pole to fully explore.

The islands Kapp'n takes you to in New Horizons are randomly selected, which means you'll never know exactly where you'll end up. The weather may change as your sailing though - it may, for example, start raining or you'll see cherry blossoms in the air - to give you a small hint at what you might find on the island.

kappa tours acnh

Both the season and time of day may also be different to that of your main island - you may arrive on an island trapped in a midnight snowstorm or one in the throes of midday summer. Either way, this is the perfect opportunity to search for any bugs , fish or seasonal items, like snowflakes , which you might be needing.

kappa tours acnh

The island Kapp'n moors on might also have a selection of flora, such as climbable vines, which aren't native to your island. You might even find some flowers you can't currently grow on your island. It's a good idea to take some of these plants when you see them, so you can take them home!

kappa tours acnh

On the beach you might find a bottle containing either a DIY recipe or, if you've unlocked cooking, a Cooking recipe. If the island you're visiting is experiencing seasonal weather, such as cherry blossoms , the DIY recipe you find might be for one of the seasonal items, which is great if you've missed one.

kappa tours acnh

These islands are also where you'll find Gyroid Fragments and maybe even a fully grown Gyroid, so, if you see a diggable spot, make sure you dig it up! You might even encounter Brewster Gyroid hunting on one of these islands.

kappa tours acnh

When you're on the island Kapp'n will act just like Wilbur when you're doing a mystery tour - he will offer to sell you tools if you need them and, when you're ready, take you back to your island. There will also be a DIY workbench on every island, so you craft your own tools if you prefer.

Finally, travelling with Kapp'n will unlock a new card in your Nook Miles + app - Set Sail for Adventure. This will record how many times you've sailed with Kapp'n and reward you with additional Nook Miles when you've visited a certain number of islands.

Have fun exploring the ocean with Kapp'n!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons — Kapp'n & Boat Tours guide

Animal Crossing Kappn

Who is Kapp'n?

  • Kapp'n in New Horizons

It's time for Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans to get excited. Nintendo announced during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct that changes were on the way and then teased the arrival of two long-awaited NPCs: Brewster and Kapp'n. Well, the wait is over! These two fan-favorites are here in the last major free update .

So, hop on board as we explore who Kapp'n is and what impact he could have on New Horizons.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Kappn

Those familiar with the series will instantly recognize this green sea turtle. Kapp'n has a distinctive character design, from his crinkly mouth to the bald spot on his head. Sporting a green shell and a heavy accent akin to pirates or an ol' salt of the sea sailor, he is an equal mix of creepy and codger. Oh, and don't forget about all the sea shanties he sings!

Fun fact: Kapp'n is loosely based on a Japanese mythological creature called the Kappa. Kappas are mischievous, reptilian river demons known for taking children unless you gift them with cucumbers. While he may not be as nefarious as his namesake, he does love cucumbers. He also takes on the role of a ferryman of sorts, transporting players in several Animal Crossing titles. He drives taxies, rowboats, buses, and more, and usually sings as the new scenes load.

His costume changes depending on which game you're playing, but he's been seen in a bus driver uniform and a more relaxed flower-print button-down. And he has his own amiibo, though it's not super rare .

Kapp'n has worn many hats over his Animal Crossing tenure, but he mostly does the same thing. He transports the player between loading screens and gets them where they need to go. He'll sing, make inappropriate comments, and get you there safely.

Kapp'n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing New Horizons Kappn Mystery Boat Tours

With the new update, Kapp'n is back doing what he loves best: Boat Tours! Players can find Kapp'n chilling in his boat right on the pier. Any time you want to head out on the open sea, Kapp'n will take you to mysterious islands, much like the Dodo Airlines Mystery Tours. Planes can't access these new islands, so the only way to go is by boat.

Master your iPhone in minutes

iMore offers spot-on advice and guidance from our team of experts, with decades of Apple device experience to lean on. Learn more with iMore!

For a small fee of 1,000 Nook Miles, not Bells, Kapp'n will take you to a random island where you can find rare plants, dig up gyroids, and explore uncharted territories. And Kapp'n will sing all the way! Oh, and you can clap along if you'd like.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Gyroid

Also, you'll need to head out on an island tour if you plan to find Brewster . These island tours are much like the Mystery Island Tours. You pay Kapp'n his fee, and he'll whisk you off to an island. It should be noted that this is the only way to find gyroids. While on a tour, you can dig up gyroid fragments, which you can then bring back and plant on your island. After enough nurturing, they will grow!

Aside from finding new foliage and gyroids, players can experience different seasons, weather, and even times of day. So, each island will have a bit of variety, so it's not the same old island with a chance of bamboo. If you're a gyroid collector, it's definitely worth the 1000 miles!

All aboard!

The wait is over! So, you and Kapp'n can take to the seas once more! However, this is the last big free update from Nintendo. The last big update will be paid DLC, Happy Home Paradise DLC , so unless there are a few small tweaks, this is it for New Horizons. Still, now that he's here, it's time to see what the big 'ol blue has to offer. Happy sailing!

Kappn Amiibo Render

A cute and fun amiibo, the Kapp'n is always ready to take you where you need to go.

[Guide] How to Find Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

kappa tours acnh

By Jack Longman

kappa tours acnh

Great change is afoot. Version 2.0.0 is available now for  Animal Crossing: New Horizons   and so much has changed and that’s before we even factor in the  Happy Home Paradise  changes as well. So, to celebrate all things  Animal Crossing, we’re creating a new series of guides dedicated to the new series of content.

In this particular guide, we’re covering Kapp’n, where to find him and what are Kapp’n’s Boat Tours?:

How to Find Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

Who is Kapp’n?: Although turtle-like in appearance, Kapp’n is actually a kappa, a monster straight out of Japanese folklore, which happens to look similar to a turtle. Kapp’n has made multiple appearances in various Animal Crossing   games, previously driving buses, taxis and operating boats and now, he’s sailing once again, only this time he is willing to take you with him as part of his very own Boat Tours.
Where to Find Kapp’n?: Regardless of your island’s layout, Kapp’n can be found beside his boat, tied up to the side of the dock on your island. From the moment you download the version 2.0.0 update, players will be able to run straight over to him.
What are Kapp’n’s Boat Tours?: Similar to the Mystery Tours offered by Dodo Airlines, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours work in the same way. It costs  1,000 Nook Miles  per voyage, with only one voyage available a day, but players are treated to lovable little cutscenes to a mysterious island and back, where Kapp’n will serenade the player with one of his many sea-related shanties that will tig at your heartstrings. What’s more, during the cutscenes, players can mash the A button to clap along to Kapp’n’s singing or utilise Y and X for other reactions. Also, the scenery can differ, as can water conditions, which can indicate what kind of a random island you will come ashore on. When you reach the island, players will be able to harvest all that they can see, which can include rare treasures. Players can also find themselves on an island covered in snow, or an island in the middle of the day, despite the fact when you left your item, it was nighttime.
Incentives for Completing Kapp’n’s Boat Tours: In addition to Kapp’n’s Boat Tours enabling players to reach shores unknown and acquire seasonal items previously denied to them, travelling with Kapp’n will also unlock a new achievement card in the Nook Miles + app entitled “Set Sail for Adventure,” which keeps track on how many times the player has gone sailing with good old Kapp’n.

As always, we hope you found this guide helpful and if further assistance is required, perhaps you should check out our other guides on  Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Every Kapp'n Mystery Island, Ranked

Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers players a chance to explore Mystery Islands courtesy of Kapp'n.

  • In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are different types of islands you can visit with Kapp'n, depending on your luck and the time of year.
  • Regular islands include a basic island with nothing special, an island with abundant crops, and a rainy island with fully-grown gyroids.
  • Seasonal islands offer unique experiences such as bamboo-filled islands in the spring, snowy winter islands, cherry blossom-filled islands in the spring, summer islands with sharks and palm trees, and autumn islands with red trees and maple leaves.

It's never a dull day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! In the struggle for best transport service, your cool uncle Kapp'n pulls out the big guns and offers to take you to islands at a completely different time of day, or even a different season.

Related: Animal Crossing New Horizons: The Best Things You Can Find On Mystery Islands

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons , the mystery tours the turtle takes you on depend on how long you've been playing as well as the fortunes Katrina foretells. This list explains how to get a chance at each island, and ranks them all.

Updated August 17, 2023 by Rosa Baumgartl: We've updated this article to include better images and links to more relevant articles. The islands Kapp'n takes you to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are still a delight, and we've further highlighted what steps you can take to see them all.

11 Basic Broken Gyroid Island

So you've paid for Katrina's stall on Harv's island, and you've paid to hear your daily luck, only to be told that your Belongings luck is just the worst today. Well, maybe skip shelling out for Kapp'n's tour for now as the chances of you landing on the worst mystery island is pretty high.

To calculate where Kapp'n takes you, there is a 78% chance to go to one of the four regular islands , and only 22% to go to a special seasonal island . We'll get into how the special islands work later, but if you have the bad Belongings luck , and you get randomly assigned to a regular island tour, you will always be taken to the booby prize of islands. Here you will find nothing very special, and when you go to dig up those Gyroid Fragments you were looking forward to you will be sadly disappointed to find they have turned back in Clay!

Even without the bad luck fortune there is a 39% chance to land on this plain Jane island, but the fragments will still be intact at least. Phew!

10 Crops Galore

With the reintroduction of the beloved green turtle, there is an opportunity to finally farm crops. On another regular island tour there is a 28% chance of ending up on the beaches of a grassy knoll abundant with one of the five new plants . In patches of dark dirt can be found upwards of 20 individual crops growing, either tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, wheat, orange pumpkins or sugarcane.

Dig these up like you would flowers and take them home to proliferate on your own farm. Watering these will increase the harvest, up to three ingredient items can be grown every three days this way. There will usually be some gyroid fragments and a cooking recipe on this island too.

9 Rare Rainy Retreat

The rarest of the regular islands might seem gloomy, but it has a lovely surprise. As we know, you need to water gyroid fragments to grow a full gyroid. When it rains all the time you're bound to have some fully formed gyroid buddies already grown!

Related: Animal Crossing: Everything You Didn't Know About Gyroids

10% of the regular tours will result in a pretty normal-looking destination, overcast and spawning fauna that come out in a downpour. And the usual digspot will have a gyrating gyroid ready to go home with you.

8 Springing Bamboo Bonanza

Now, onto the seasonal islands that are randomly picked from only 22% of all Kapp'n excursions. To unlock the possibility of visiting these far away shores your character needs to have experienced each of these natural events in their own home. Meaning that to come across a lush hide-away full of bamboo trees that only drops Young Spring Bamboo your game needs to have advanced past the 31st of May (for our Northern Hemisphere pals).

This is so that seasonal items can't be accessed earlier than it would naturally have happened. Each of these rare seasonal areas have the critters from the corresponding time, and relevant DIYs will wash up in bottles too.

7 Mushrooms Galore

The next best place to turn up to is a cozy autumnal patch growing all manner of mushrooms. There are five types of mushroom possible to find in this game including the rare mushroom. This resembles a truffle and can be dug up around the base of trees. Mush themed DIYs drift onto the beaches here in case you missed any during November.

Other than this, it's a pretty normal-seeming island, with trees in a range of warm colors. Lovely!

6 Winter Wonderland

Do you hear the sleigh bells ringing? No? Well that's okay, because it's snowing anyway! Get your nets out for the flurry of snowflakes to catch if you get taken to the winter island. Everything is covered in snow, and winter fish and insects are ready to be captured.

Related: This Is How You Get Large Snowflakes In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

There's a 14% chance of docking here, just like the other seasonal islands, and it can only be unlocked once you've played past the 24th of February, or the 24th of August for the Southern Hemisphere. Ice set DIYs will wash up too.

5 Pretty Petal Palace

An incredibly popular time in Japan is when the cherry blossoms bloom and fall, turning the ground a soft pink for a couple of weeks. Animal Crossing experiences the same thing, and has a gorgeous DIY set to go with it.

If your game time is beyond the 10th of April, or the 10th of October, there's a small chance Kapp'n will be kind enough to bring you to an island full of petals. Just like in springtime the trees are pink and petals float on the breeze. Catch as many as you can and craft some sweet items to remember spring by.

4 Hot Shell Summer

Who needs actual summer when you can experience summer in Animal Crossing? The sharks are circling the shoreline ready to net you a pretty penny, and the palm trees are alive with humongous bugs. Blue Summer Shells turn up on the sand here too.

Related: Animal Crossing: New Horizons- Where To Find Summer Shells

Just like the other islands, you'll find plenty of crafting materials for this season-specific set. After the 31st of August, or six months later in the Southern Hemisphere, you might find yourself sunning somewhere tropical with Kapp'n himself.

3 Fall Is In The Air

This is another island for stocking up on temporary crafts. It's fall again and now the trees are hot red and smelling sweet. Maple leaves fill the air here and can be caught with a bug net. If you didn't manage to catch a Golden Trout before last November 25th then now is the time to try again. Check the beach as always for those elusive DIYs .

2 Coveted Vines And Moss Paradise

The final regular island that can be found year round without needing to be unlocked is the famous Vines and Glowing Moss island. It's not the rarest of the normal ones, but because of the endemic plants it is nearest the top. If Katrina has given you good Belongings fortune, and you head off with Kapp'n, then this island is most likely to pop up on the horizon.

In the trailer for the 2.0 update, this island was heavily featured and sent the gaming world into a frenzy. This is the only place in the base game to find vines and moss, (the Happy Homes DLC offers them too) as well as blooming Plumeria bushes in pink and white. There are plenty of palm trees to pick from, and some gyroid fragments to find.

1 Starry Starry Night

Finally, the best island that Kapp'n might be kind enough to take you to is in perpetual night. Stars dance across the nebulous sky and regular rocks are full of rare fragments. It's not just the usual yellow stars that fly out when hit with a shovel, but also horoscope specific fragments that can only be found washed up after a night of hopeful wishing . There's only a three percent chance of winding up here though.

If you played the game during the 15th of June, or the 15th of December for the Southern Hemisphere, then you are in with the chance of greedily stuffing exclusive stars into your little pockets alongside Kapp'n. Don't tell Celeste , she might never visit your island again if she finds this place!

Home » Animal Crossing New Horizons » ACNH Kapp’n – How to Increase Boat Tours Limit

The Kapp’n is one of the new characters which have been added to Animal Crossing New Horizons in update 2.0. Like Brewster , he is another character that long-time fans of the series will be happy to see make an introduction in ACNH as well. Like in his previous appearances, here, too, his role is to ferry you from island to island. And, like we will see in this ACNH Kapp’n – How to Increase Boat Tours Limit guide, there are a couple of things you will need to keep in mind when dealing with the Kapp’n.

ACNH-Kappn-How-to-increase-boat-tours-limit

How to Get Kapp’n on Your Island in Animal Crossing New Horizon

To be able to make use of Kapp’n and his boat services, head to the Pier. Here, you will see the Kapp’n. When you speak with him, you will then be able to hire him to take you on Mystery Tours to nearby islands. This costs 1,000 Nook Miles and you can do this once per day. In fact, you will need to travel to these islands in order to meet Brewster and also to find Gyroid Fragments there.

How to Increase Boat Tours Limit in Animal Crossing New Horizons

As we mentioned, Kapp’n can take you on a boat tour only once per day. Naturally, this has left many players wondering if there is anything that they can do to somehow raise this boat tours limit. After all, you can do this for some other things in the game. And while we hate to be the bearers of bad news, unfortunately, as of right now, there is no way that you can raise Kapp’n boat tours limit. This means that you will need to plan ahead of when to take his boat tour services. Of course, this is simply the situation as it stands right now, and there could always be a change to how this system works in an upcoming patch or update.

Artwork of Kapp'n

Kapp'n is a green turtle [nb 1] who first appeared in Doubutsu no Mori+ . Throughout the Animal Crossing series , he serves as a driver of various forms of transport. He has been known to row boats, drive taxis, and also drive buses. Kapp'n himself is a sailor at heart, referring frequently to his life on the sea and speaking as a pirate would. He also expresses a fondness for women, cucumbers, and singing old sea shanties .

The word "kappa," from which Kapp'n is derived, is the name for a river yokai (supernatural creature) in Japanese folklore. They are mischievous in nature and reptilian in appearance. His name also plays on how a sailor would pronounce "captain," abbreviating certain sounds so that it becomes a phonetic pronunciation. His name reflects the way he speaks; he talks like a stereotypical pirate, saying things like "yar!", "sprat," and "garr," and he will sometimes refer to the player as a fish or sea creature , such as " scallop ," " sea bass ," or " urchin ."

Trivia [ edit ]

  • In a character popularity poll held on the Doubutsu no Mori+ website, Kapp'n ranked as the 6th most popular character with 1,572 votes, ranking above Mitzi but below Sable . [1]
  • Kapp'n's sea shanties in Animal Crossing contain various references:
  • One verse says "Yar, I know Nintendo gives ye yer joys. But I ask this of ye: Can games sing like me? Mario can't croon, bro!", referencing both Nintendo and Mario .
  • One interlude references The Legend of Zelda , with Kapp'n asking the player, "Ye ever spend the night in a Hyrulian prison?" The line additionally acts as a nod to the quote "Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?" from the 1980 comedy film Airplane! , itself a reference to the 1978 prison drama Midnight Express .
  • One interlude says "Ahoy there, Moby Dick! Ye wanna stop rockin' the boat?", referencing the fictional whale from the novel of the same name .
  • When managing Animal Island Game Boy Advance data, Kapp'n may say "Why, what in the name o' Jabu-Jabu's belly?" This is a reference to the dungeon of the same name in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time .
  • Several of Kapp'n's sea shanties are about cucumbers. In Japanese folklore, cucumbers were thrown into rivers for Kappa to eat with the names of children and/or families on. This would spare a family when bathing in a river. Children, and sometimes adults, are believed to be one of their favorite foods–cucumbers being their favorite. They would also help humans and not break an oath. This may relate to how friendly he is towards humans in the Animal Crossing series .
  • If in Animal Crossing: City Folk the player leaves the game idle long enough on the bus, Kapp'n will begin to whistle Totaka's Song , which also appears as " K.K. Song ."
  • While riding on the bus in Animal Crossing: City Folk , Kapp'n is interested in celebrity gossip and will question the player for juicy secrets, shortly before arriving at the city.
  • Kapp'n appears on the album cover of " Marine Song 2001 ."
  • Kapp'n shares his birthday with Olive .
