Princess Louisa Inlet

Visitors come from all over the world to see this magical fjord where warm sun melting the mountain snowpack creates as many as 60 waterfalls cascading down massive granite walls.

There's no need to wonder why it has been called “the most beautiful anchorage in the world”. Traditionally named swiwelat, Princess Louisa Inlet has a charm and scenic beauty that must be seen and experienced. This magnificent granite-walled gorge rises sharply from the water’s edge to heights in excess of 2100 metres (7000 feet). Almost completely enclosed, the Inlet is 300 metres (1000 feet) deep. Don’t miss beautiful Chatterbox Falls at the head of the Inlet as it tumbles 40 metres (120 feet) to kiss the waters below.

Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park  contains a number of campsites, a ranger cabin, picnic shelter, and toilets. For boaters there is a mooring buoy, stern pins, a boat dock, and a dinghy dock. Walking trails provide access to nearby scenic features. Accessible only by boat or plane, Princess Louisa is best seen with experienced guides via charter boat, tour, or floatplane due to dangerous tidal conditions. There are no public roads. Entry is through the Strait of Georgia by way of Jervis Inlet, 90 km (55 mi) north of  Skookumchuck Narrows .

"Sunshine Coast Tours went above and beyond to give us a wonderful experience. The trip was informative, beautiful, safe and inspiring. Bryce knows lots about the area and apparently the other captain is also knowledgeable. He made sure we were all comfortable and we had an hour and a half at Chatterbox Falls. Great Service and Spectacular Scenery"

- Beth, Tripadvisor

"Thank you Captain Bryce for an amazing tour of Princess Louisa inlet and Chatterbox Falls. We really enjoyed listening to you share your knowledge of the area! You do it in a way that is genuine and not rehearsed like some other tours can be. Seeing transient orcas from only a few metres away wasn’t bad either..."

- Abbey, Tripadvisor

"We saw orcas on our way to Princess Louisa inlet and saw them again on our way back. Our guide stopped the boat, so we could take pictures. We also saw lots of seals and eagles! The stop at the falls was long enough to eat your own picnic, take pictures and walk around the small trail. I would definitely recommend to everyone."

- Chloé, Google

"The scenery is gorgeous but what really brought it to life was our guides knowledge of the area, the history, geography, and so much more. If you are looking for an informative tour in a beautiful part of the world, I would highly recommend Sunshine Coast Tours."

- Karen, Google

"The tour to Princess Louisa Inlet was incredible. We both grew up in Vancouver near the water, but we have never seen such stunning views by boat. The stop at Chatterbox Falls was only one of the highlights of this trip. Jim did an amazing job as our tour guide. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone."

Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls

Showcasing the only true example of fjordland on the Pacific coast, Princess Louisa Inlet has been proclaimed by many the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Waterfall after waterfall cascades down sheer rock walls, leaving mossy peaks and lush green forests in their wake. The area is truly the gem of BC's Sunshine Coast.

A Bit of History

In 1927, James F. “Mac” MacDonald purchased 45 acres of land at the head of the inlet and built a log cabin. He became the unofficial laird, custodian, and guardian of Princess Louisa Inlet. For years, Mac offered hospitality to any visitor to the area.

“ This beautiful, peaceful haven should never belong to one individual… I have felt that I was only the custodian of the property for Nature and it has been my duty to extend every courtesy .” James F. “Mac” MacDonald

In 1953, he deeded his property to the boaters of the Pacific Northwest in hopes that the area's natural beauty remained unspoiled. The non-profit Princess Louisa International Society was formed to maintain perpetual trust.

In 1965, BC Parks declared the entire inlet a recreation area. With Mac's blessing, the property was turned over to the Parks Department and became a Provincial Marine Park. The Princess Louisa International Society continues to play an active role in the conservation and management of the park.

For a deep dive into the history of Mac and the Inlet, read Mac and The Princess: The Story of Princess Louisa Inlet.

Chatterbox Falls at Princess Louisa Inlet. Vancouver Island View

“ The head of Princess Louisa Inlet is one of the most lovely, outstanding, spectacular beauty spots in the world. It is Yosemite Valley, the Fjords of Norway and many other places all wrought into the background of our conifer forests of the Pacific Northwest. “ James F. “Mac” MacDonald

The Marine Park and Chatterbox Falls

The spectacular marine park contains mooring buoys, stern pins, a boat dock and an airplane float. It also has a ranger cabin (occupied late June – September), a few campsites, a picnic shelter and pit toilets.

Besides the amazing scenery, one of the main draws to the area is the spectacular Chatterbox Falls.

At the mooring dock, head up the ramp into the lush forest and follow the 800-meter boardwalk and trail to get closer to the roaring falls. In June especially, the powerful water spray will leave you quite wet! However, the best view of the falls is from the water or beach.

Four bare-ground tent sites, each with a picnic table, are located just above the high tide line along the forest's edge. There is also one communal fire pit for the tent sites. Water is available from taps at the main dock and one tap behind the Macdonald Memorial Shelter. However, the water isn't potable and must be boiled to consume.

On nearby MacDonald Island (closer to the entrance of Princess Louisa Inlet), there are four bare-ground tent sites. Only two have picnic tables, and there is only one pit toilet.

In June over 60 waterfalls cascade down the rock cliffs at Princess Louisa Inlet. Vancouver Island View.

Best Time to Go

Late Spring and Summer are the best times to visit Princess Louisa Inlet. In June, as the warm sun starts melting the mountain snow-pack, it creates more than sixty waterfalls that cascade down the sheer rock walls. Although many are seasonal, a few remain throughout the summer, including Chatterbox Falls.

Self-Guided Adventure to Princess Louisa Inlet

If you have a boat, getting to Princess Louisa Inlet from Vancouver Island is doable as a day trip (albeit a long day). And that is exactly what we did this past Father's Day.

The only entrance to the Marine Park is through the Straight of Georgia, which passes through Jervis Inlet, which is located across the water from Texada Island.

The easiest and closest access point to the south end of Texada is launching your boat at Schooner Cove in Nanoose Bay or French Creek Marina in Parksville.

The ride across the Straight of Georgia can often be a bit rough, but once you near Texada, things usually start settling down. The ride from Texada to the head of Jervis Inlet (Agamemnon Channel) on the Sunshine Coast is a bit more protected, so the water is smooth.

The trip from Schooner Cove or French Creek Marina to the head of Jervis Inlet is approximately 22 nautical miles.

Jervis Inlet / Agamemnon Channel

At the north end of Agamemnon Channel, to your right will be Egmont. This is the last location that offers fuel, so be sure you can make the round trip!

The Backeddy Resort & Marina provides fuel, moorage, dining and accommodations. It is a great pitstop to refuel your boat and your body, too ;).

Continuing your travel through Jervis Inlet, you will pass by other beautiful areas with their own natural delights. This includes Prince of Whales Reach and Princess Royal Reach. Both offer incredible scenery and even a few delightful waterfalls.

The following map is for convenience only and courtesy of the Princess Louisa International Society . It is by no means meant as a navigational tool. Please use proper navigation charts and boating/sailing directions when making the trek.

Malibu Rapids

Malibu Rapids lies at the head of Princess Louisa Inlet, 32 miles from Egmont. Due to strong currents, the rapids should be entered at or near slack tide. High-water slack is preferable because it allows extra room for navigating the narrow passage.

Due to the limited visibility of boats entering the narrow channel from the other side of the rapids, You should announce your approach using VHF 16 on the other side of the rapids.

The Malibu Club is a beautiful resort at the head of the rapids. It was initially developed as a luxury resort for the rich and famous by Tom Hamilton. After only five years (from 1945 to 1950), the dream ended due to not being a profitable business, and the resort was left abandoned.

In 1953, Young Life Camp purchased the property for its youth summer camps and has operated it ever since.

The calm waters inside Princess Louisa Inlet. Vancouver Island View

The Princess

Once across the rapids, the Inlet is amazingly calm and showcases jaw-dropping scenery with every head swivel. The inlet itself is only 8 km long.

To respect the serenity of this remote location, there is a speed limit of 4 knots. To keep the place pristine, you are also asked to keep all sewage inside your holding tanks inside the Inlet.

“ There is a calm tranquility which stretches from the smooth surface of the reflecting water straight up into infinity. The deep calm of eternal silences is only disturbed by the muffled roar of throbbing waterfalls as they plunge down from sheer cliffs. There is no scenery in the world that can beat it. Not that I’ve seen the rest of the world. I don’t need to, I’ve seen Princess Louisa Inlet.” Erle Stanley Gardner, “ Log of a Landlubber ”

I note that you used the map from our web page and I think that the very least that you could do on your page is to provide a link to the Princess Louisa International Society web page: http://www.princesslouisa.bc.ca Without the Society, the Park would not exist and the Society continues to work in conjunction with BC Parks to preserve and maintain the Inlet to this day. Thank you. Jim Burns Director, Princess Louisa International Society.

Hi Jim, you are absolutely right. Your map and mention should have been linked. That was an oversight on my part. It has been fixed. Thank you for noticing!

My wife and I flew in to Chatterbox Falls with our best friends two years ago. The area is completely “magical”. There is so much to see. Our flight from Pat Bay to the Park and back was phenomenal. There is so much beauty along the coast. For anyone that has sailed into the area, I envy them. That, too, would be the trip of a lifetime. Thank you Carol, Cliff and beautiful BC.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I envy the flight with your birds eye view!! Both would be an incredible way to see the area. I am so glad you got to see it.

Park overview

Far inland, approached from the Strait of Georgia by way of Jervis Inlet, Princess Louisa Inlet has a charm and scenic beauty that must be seen and experienced.

Glaciation of millennia past carved the magnificent granite-walled gorge through the snow-tipped mountains that rise sharply from the water’s edge to heights in excess of 2,100 metres. As placid as a mountain lake, the ocean waters of Princess Louisa Inlet move constantly with the tides, but currents are practically nonexistent, except for the seven to ten-knot Malibu Rapids at the entrance. The inlet, almost completely enclosed, is 300 metres deep and never over 800 metres wide.

Until mid-June, the warm sun melting the mountain snow-pack creates more than sixty waterfalls that cascade and spume down precipitous walls to mingle with the waters of Princess Louisa Inlet. Beautiful Chatterbox Falls at the head of the inlet tumbles 40 metres).

This spectacular park contains a number of campsites, a ranger cabin, picnic shelter and toilets. For boaters there is a mooring buoy, stern pins, a boat dock and a dinghy dock.

“There is a calm tranquility which stretches from the smooth surface of the reflecting water straight up into infinity. The deep calm of eternal silences is only disturbed by the muffled roar of throbbing waterfalls as they plunge down from sheer cliffs. There is no scenery in the world that can beat it. Not that I’ve seen the rest of the world. I don’t need to, I’ve seen Princess Louisa Inlet.”  – Erle Stanley Gardner, “Log of a Landlubber”

Special notes

The marine park is managed by BC Parks with the cooperation of the Princess Louisa International Society . The Princess Louisa International Society raises funds to maintain and develop the Princess Louisa Inlet Marine Park:

  • To provide additional and enhanced facilities.
  • To acquire additional lands within Princess Louisa Inlet for dedication as Park
  • To preserve and protect the unique marine and upland environment of the Inlet for the benefit of all. Memberships and tax receipts for donations are available from the Society.
  • To help preserve the natural values in this park, please do not discharge sewage at docks or in anchorages, but keep sewage contained in holding tanks while at anchor.
  • Maximum vessel length allowed on the docks is less than 18 metres (55 feet).
  • Slow down to less than five knots and keep your wake to a minimum when approaching the dock.
  • Minimize exhaust and noise from generators and limit their use to 9am to 11am and 6pm to 8pm.
  • Please consider your neighbours and observe the quiet time from 11pm to 7am.
  • Dock use may be limited to 72 hours during the high-use season.
  • Rockfish Conservation Areas occur within this park. Fishing activities are limited in Rockfish Conservation Areas. Before you go fishing please refer to the Rockfish Conservation Area descriptions available from Fisheries and Oceans Canada DFO . Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence .

Boat-in or walk-in camping is allowed. There are eight walk-in tent sites available at Mcdonald Island and at Chatterbox Falls. The sites are available year-round when accessible.

MacDonald Island: There are four bare ground tent sites at Macdonald Island, of which only two have tables with one pit toilet for all. There is no communal fire ring at MacDonald island sites. Fires are prohibited . The campsite is located on the mainland adjacent to Macdonald Island with a dinghy dock for access. The campsites are located in the forest behind a small grassy area. This site is particularly suited for small boats or kayaks. Surface water is available from a spring at the rear of the camping area. The water should be boiled prior to consumption.

Chatterbox Falls: There are four bare ground tent sites with a picnic table at each. These are located just above the high tide line along the edge of the forest. There is one communal fire pit for the tent sites. Water is available from taps at the main dock and from one tap behind the Macdonald Memorial Shelter.

This park does not have a boat launch. However, there is a 200 metre mooring float at Chatterbox falls and five mooring buoys located at Macdonald Island.

Vessels travelling in Princess Louisa Inlet are asked to keep vessel speed below four knots. To help preserve the natural values in this park, please do not discharge sewage in anchorages, but keep sewage contained in holding tanks while at anchor. Maximum vessel length allowed on the dock is less than 18 metres (55 feet).

A new Airplane Float was added in 2015 at the end of the 200 metre mooring float.

Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings only. No firewood is provided; please bring your own firewood. While campfires are allowed and communal fire pits are provided, we encourage visitors to conserve wood and protect the environment by minimizing the use of fire and using campstoves instead.

To preserve vegetation and ground cover, please don’t gather firewood from the area around your campsite or elsewhere in the park (this is a ticketable offence under the Park Act ). Dead wood is an important habitat element for many plants and animals and it adds organic matter to the soil.

Campfire bans may be in place. Before lighting a fire, check for bans or restrictions on BC Wildfire Service and on local or Indigenous government websites.

The MacDonald Memorial Shelter is available at Chatterbox Falls. The Macdonald Memorial Shelter is a teepee style structure with three large openings around the perimeter and a large fire pit at its centre. There are two picnic tables at the shelter. Two pit toilets, located centrally in the park, are used by campers and boaters from the main dock as well.

There are three pit toilets in this park. Two are at the main Chatterbox Falls area and one is at the campsite near MacDonald Island.

There are 800 metres of trails and boardwalks located at Chatterbox Falls.

A new trail adjacent to Macdonald Island was completed in 2015. It is a 1km easy to moderate loop trail that winds thru the forest to a rock out cropping where two benches are placed overlooking the inlet. Access is from dingy dock and past the campsites.

Outside the park is a nearby hiking trail to Trappers Cabin that takes approximately two hours and is somewhat dangerous and difficult. It is approximately seven hours to the alpine and another half day to the icefield. These trails are recommended for experienced mountaineers only.

For your own safety and the preservation of the park, obey posted signs and keep to designated trails. Shortcutting trails destroys plant life and soil structure.

There is no designated swimming area in the park. All swimming is ocean swimming but some people like to swim where the creek from Chatterbox Fall enters the ocean.

There are no lifeguards on duty in BC Parks.

There are opportunities for canoeing or kayaking at this park.

Princess Louisa Inlet has been designated a Rockfish Conservation Area . All fishing is prohibited within the inlet.

There is a year-round shellfish closure, harvesting is prohibited within the inlet (this includes, clams, mussels, oysters and other bivalve mollusks).

Please refer to the Rockfish Conservation Area descriptions available from Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) .

Anyone fishing in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence. To learn more, see the fishing and hunting guide .

A viewing platform is located at the bottom of Chatterbox Falls. The entire Princess Louisa Inlet provides an outstanding viewscape. Numerous waterfalls ribbon the walls of the gorge as snow melts, including the magnificent Chatterbox Falls.

Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in beach areas or park buildings. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.

There are scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities. There are no facilities provided. Scuba parties must be self-sufficient.

This marine park is located in the Princess Louisa Inlet and is only accessible by boat or plane. There are no public roads. The only entrance to the marine park is through the Straight of Georgia by way of Jervis Inlet, 90km north of Skookumchuck Narrows.

Short History of Chatterbox Falls

Chatterbox Falls is located in Princess Louisa Inlet, British Columbia, Canada. The falls are part of Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park. The height of Chatterbox Falls is approximately 40 meters (131 feet). The waterfall’s fjord-like landscape attracts boaters and hikers.

Charles MacGregor and his family were among the first permanent occupants of the falls in the 1930s. Chatterbox Falls became a hidden gem, attracting more travelers to see its stunning landscape. The MacGregors helped popularize Princess Louisa Inlet. Princess Louisa Park, founded in 1965 to preserve the area’s natural splendor, centers around Chatterbox Falls. The park includes forests, mountains, and inlet marine ecosystems, as well as the falls. Boaters and kayakers can access Chatterbox Falls, and hikers can explore routes with beautiful views of the falls and surrounding scenery.

Boat tour to princess louisa inlet and chatterbox falls.

Princess Louisa Inlet had been calling to me since 1965 when I got invited to the Malibu Club Lodge there. The cliffs at the head of it are so dramatic that it can be easily identified when passing over even at 35,000 feet. On Day 42 of the trip, June 6th, I was finally going to get a close look at it. There are over 50 photos and a video in this post – that may give you some idea of how special this place is. I’ve posted a brochure about Princess Louisa Inlet from my collection. Published by BC Parks in 1988, it gives an excellent history of how the inlet came to be a park – see Princess Louisa Inlet, 1988 .

RV mornings are special times, with Bella and Tucker and Molly all sleeping close to me as I tap away on the laptop. This morning, even the normal 07:00 breakfast time had long passed before they stirred.

The Backeddy Resort has recently added a few of these cool Geodesic Domes for rent. They’re really cute inside, and have stunning views.

I had booked with Sunshine Coast Tours – $149 with taxes for 5 hours, about 3½ of that on the water, the rest at Chatterbox Falls. I met our boat captain, Cliff, at the ramp down to the dock. He said that there were only 3 people on today’s today. Ouch – it must be a break-even day for him. The other passengers, women from Victoria and Ontario, soon arrived, and at 10:30, we cruised away from Egmont, headed for some of North America’s finest wilderness.

Egmont harbour, BC

When I saw this boat in the harbour, I thought that it was one of Un-cruise’s small cruise ships, but when I blew the photo up, I saw that it’s the Malibu Princess, used to transport people to the Malibu Club that you’ll see shortly.

Within a few minutes ater leaving Egmont, we were in Jervis Inlet (see a map ). About 77 km (48 mi) long, it’s known as the deepest fjord on the BC coast, with a maximum depth of 732 meters (2,402 ft).

Jervis Inlet, BC

Just 3 minutes after shooting the photo above, we made a stop at a little island that was home to a large number of harbour seals. Cliff was narrating an excellent tour and I’m sure that he told us the name of the island, but I don’t remember.

The seals weren’t the least bit concerned about our presence.

This was not an express run to Princess Louisa Inlet. Cliff tucked into shore to show us some particularly incredible locations often.

Jervis Inlet, BC

At 10:55, we stopped to watch a black bear on the shore. He was fairly well hidden by logs so I’m not going to post any photos of him. Less than 10 minutes later, though, this bald eagle eating a fish stopped us again.

Two minutes after leaving the bald eagle, another black bear! This bear was much more photographer-friendly! 🙂

It would take years running Jervis Inlet to find some of the places that Cliff showed us. In that little cleft in the granite was a wall of misty waterfall.

Jervis Inlet, BC

In this tiny bay, a lot of what Cliff called “bait fish” were jumping. I took a bunch of photos hoping to catch one mid-air so I could see what they look like, but had no luck.

There’s a tree that would eventually grow itself to death – grow so large that it will topple into the sea.

Jervis Inlet, BC

Just up that valley about 25 miles is the ski resort town of Whistler! I had to try to form a map in my head to grasp that 2 places so dissimilar could be so close.

Jervis Inlet, BC

The further north we went in Jervis Inlet, the more common dramatic cliffs like this became.

The captain’s view. Although the boat has inside seating for a dozen people, all 3 of us stayed outside the entire time. Speakers on the back deck allowed us to hear Cliff clearly. Even those of us with hearing problems – ahem…

Jervis Inlet, BC

At 11:40, Cliff pulled in and stopped in front of a particularly beautiful waterfall.

The waterfall looked like a good subject to create an HDR image of.

I had no idea that there are significant pictographs along Jervis Inlet. It shouldn’t have surprised me, though. Pictographs were done at spiritually powerful places, and Jervis Inlet has those in abundance, I expect.

Princess Louisa Inlet is a bucket-list destination for many people, and large boats are seen often. Skylark II is from Bellingham, Washington.

Malibu Club is a luxury lodge, but with a different focus than most. I mentioned in the introduction to this post that I was invited to spend a week or so there in 1965. I didn’t go, though. While doing the final paperwork, I realized that it was (and is) a Christian camp, and cancelled. I see that there’s a small part of the lodge now open to the general public (30 rooms).

The “lodge” would be wonderful on a wet day – build a fire and just enjoy the vibe of this magnificent setting.

The beach seemed like a good location to have a first look at the waterfall. It was also a good place to eat the lunch I’d brought.

Then, up for a much closer look. The power of the falls at full flood as it was now, was quite incredible. Hardly a “chatterbox” now!

I shot this while standing in the heavy spray coming of the falls.

Waterfalls often need a video, and Chatterbox Falls certainly does. Here’s 2½ minutes to see and hear the power.

12 people have died trying to climb to the top of the falls. Okay.. 🙁

The area around the base of the falls fascinated me.

I expect that this place gets extremely busy in mid-summer. In July, Cliff’s boat brings in 15-20 people, not 3.

Several sources say that James Bruce Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America and the 9th tallest in the world, at 840 meters (2,760 feet). To me, a waterfall is a single drop – that’s just a cascade. Impressive, whatever you call it, though.

I went back down to the beach and waded in the sea for a bit. The water was probably too cold for swimming, but was refreshing to wade in.

How do you even describe this picnic area? Does just “OMG!” work? 🙂

This is one of the most spectacular sailing shots I’ve ever gotten. There were a fair number of boats, both sail and power, headed up Jervis Inlet as we were southbound.

Sailboat in Jervis Inlet, BC

There was a whole lot of blasting needed to get that logging landing built!

Logging in Jervis Inlet, BC

I was surprised by the number of places in this area where a double resource extraction is going on in a major way. A huge gravel pit on the lower levels, and logging behind. I suppose triple resource extraction when you add the fishing that’s going on but not as noticeable.

Gravel pit and logging in Jervis Inlet, BC

A water taxi took advantage of the smoother ride behind us for a few minutes. While Cliff’s boat is fast, the water taxi was faster, and he soon roared around us 🙂

Back at Egmont harbour, at 3:00. It was half an hour earlier than advertised, but I can’t imagine that anyone minded. It had been an incredible day, and I was exhausted.

Egmont, BC

I was back at the motorhome at 3:30, and of course taking Bella and Tucker for a long walk was the first priority. The RV park is next door to a small farm (the “Labour of Love Farm”), and most times that we go by the pig pen, all the pigs rush down to meet us. It happened again this time.

My dogs Bella and Tucker with pigs

Tucker was a bit curious, but soon decided that he’d rather have them stay on their own side of the fence. Bella, however, really wanted to meet them! The electric fence, installed to prevent another intrusion by bears (which had killed some pigs previously), prevented that.

Miles Russell falls short in promising PGA TOUR debut, ends at even par

Change Text Size

Special permission was made for Miles Russell this week to enter the locker room at Detroit Golf Club since no one under the age of 16 is – usually – allowed to enter. His dad drove the courtesy car provided to all the players. He didn’t get a chance to get behind the wheel.

“I wish,” Russell said Friday with a smile.

What he did do, however, was make a spirited run at making the cut on the PGA TOUR. The 15-year-old ended up with an even-par 144 for his two-day effort at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and will fall just short of making the weekend.

Michelle Wie West recorded the lowest score of a player under the age of 16 on the PGA TOUR since 1983, with a 140 at the 2004 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Russell shot a 2-under 70 Friday. It was a much-improved day from his opening round, he said.

Russell was 4-under through 11 holes in the second round including a pitch-in birdie on the par-3 11th. He bogeyed Nos. 12 and 16 coming home, however, and that spelled the end of his week.

“Got off to a nice start and just wasn’t quite able to keep it going, but just needed a couple more putts to drop,” Russell said. “The game plan today was same as yesterday, just try to execute better. Did that early, just couldn’t get any putts to fall on that back side.”

Miles Russell holes out for birdie from 63-feet at Rocket Mortgage

This week marked Russell’s PGA TOUR debut after he became the youngest golfer ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour – finishing tied for 20th earlier this season at the LECOM Suncoast Classic. Russell won both the Junior PGA Championship and the Junior PLAYERS Championship in 2023. He was the youngest to ever be named the American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year – with Tiger Woods the only other golfer to win the award before turning 16.

Russell said almost everyone on the PGA TOUR this week in Detroit introduced themselves and were “super friendly.” He also got a great reception from the fans, he said. Russell received a hearty ovation when he walked up No. 18.

“Just tried to stay focused on the golf but on 18 there, just kind of walked up a little slower and really just enjoyed it,” Russell said. “It was awesome.

“The fans here, especially in Detroit, have been great and I’m looking forward to coming back in a month or so. It was just a cool moment.”

Miles Russell's interview after Round 2 of Rocket Mortgage

Next month Russell will return to the venerable Oakland Hills Country Club just outside Detroit for the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur. The winner will receive a spot in next year’s U.S. Open at Oakmont. The match-play portion of the competition will take place on the South Course, measuring about the same length as Detroit Golf Club.

“I think it might be a little firmer, a little faster, rough might be a little thicker – it might be a little bit more of a ‘championship-style’ course," Russell said of his upcoming summertime challenge. "I think the rough’s going to be probably 5 or 6 inches and pretty thick. I think the key is going to be keeping it in the fairway."

So, Russell closes the book on this chapter of his young golfing life before returning to compete alongside players his own age once again – those who might need to lean on a parent for a drive to the course, for example.

But he’ll have the most unique experience of any other teenage golfer this summer.

“It was a good week, just the golf didn’t go the way I wanted to, but it was a great week,” Russell said. “It’s pretty perfect. The only PGA TOUR event I’ve been to is THE PLAYERS and that’s probably one of the best ones – so this was right up there with it.”

Neil Young Axes Tour As Band Falls Ill, What Happened?

N eil Young is a living legend who continues to entertain crowds decades into his long career. Unfortunately, he had to cancel tour dates after his band came down with a mysterious illness. So, what do we know about this situation and what caused it?

Neil Young Is A Living Legend

At 78 years old, Neil Young has had more than one hall-of-fame career. He could very easily hang it up at any point and still go down as one of the best to ever do it. Like many other working musicians, actors, and others in the entertainment space, performing live is something Neil Young was born to do. So, it makes sense why he continues to put on killer shows at nearly 80 years old.

Neil Young has been entertaining the masses for generations. He is a prime example of living the rock and roll lifestyle while also having longevity in mind. To this day, countless listeners and fans of music in general flock to see him play a show, and with the kind of career he has had, it’s no surprise.

Young Axes Remainder Of Current Tour, Why?

Young has been in the middle of his Love Earth Tour. It has been a great experience for him, his band, and concert-goers so far. Unfortunately, based on the latest updates from the music icon, he had to cancel the remaining tour stops due to unforeseen circumstances.

It turns out, the singer had to cancel the rest of the shows due to his band members falling ill. In a statement on his website addressing the matter, Young said: “When a couple of us got sick after Detroit's Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break.”

Sad News For Neil Young Ticket Holders

According to Neil Young’s website, the rest of the tour is canceled until further notice. For any fans hoping to see Young and his band play in the remaining cities, it doesn’t look like there will be any attempt to make up for those dates until everyone feels better.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear what type of illness everyone has that forced them to cancel these current tour stops. However, many wish the talented musicians a speedy recovery, so that they can get back to doing exactly what they love.

If there is one silver lining in this for fans, it’s that Neil Young and his band will do their best to make up for the lost dates.

They added: "We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience.”

Sauce Gardner has the bug.

The New York Jets Pro Bowl defensive back picked up golf recently and, in his own words, has become “addicted” to the game.

Since his first golf-related X (formerly Twitter) post on June 22, Gardner’s feed has been all golf, all the time. He’s posted videos of his swing, asked and accepted advice from followers and kept the social world updated on his progress.

The 23-year-old posted on Thursday a photo of his scorecard showing a 96, writing, “First time playing 18 holes and playing my own ball.”

First time playing 18 holes and playing my own ball. How did I do?😅 pic.twitter.com/h0JkZ2Y1TE — SAUCE GARDNER (@iamSauceGardner) June 28, 2024

U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has even reached out and wants to have him on his YouTube channel.

This week’s PGA Tour event, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, is at Detroit Golf Club and players were shown video of Gardner’s swing and asked to assess it.

They were complimentary of the Detroit native and former Cincinnati standout.

Jets training camp begins in less than a month, but Gardner has no design on slowing down his golf advancement. A home simulator is already in the works:

DETROIT — Akshay Bhatia had a hole-in-one of sorts when his golf ball fell into a hole in a fairway drain at Detroit Golf Club in the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Friday.

Bhatia's 315-yard drive on the 579-yard, par-5 17th hole ended up underground after it made its way into one of five holes in the drain that were just big enough for a golf ball to fall into.

“Fairly certain that's a Callaway at the bottom,” Bhatia told a PGA Tour rules official.

Bhatia got a free drop and a memorable moment. He ended up making par on the way to a 5-under 67 that put him atop the leaderboard at 13 under among the early finishers.

“That was wild,” Bhatia said. “No, never seen it. Rules official (had) never seen it.

"It was kind of one-in-a-million chance that ball goes in that small hole in that drain. So, it was pretty funny.”

The 22-year-old Bhatia picked up his second PGA Tour victory at the Texas Open in April. He tied for fifth last week at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, where he was in the final group that was disrupted by climate protesters storming the 18th green.
