WHAT IS WICKED ABOUT?

Wicked tells the incredible story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two young women: the blonde and very popular Glinda… and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.

Following an encounter with the wonderful wizard, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths…

Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power. While Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future.

Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good , and the Wicked Witch of the West .

Wicked the musical announces major UK and Ireland Tour dates opening December 2023.

Wicked UK & Ireland Tour 2024

Wicked the musical , has announced a major 10-city 2023-2025 UK & Ireland Tour. Opening at the Edinburgh Playhouse on 7 December 2023, the spectacular, multi-record-breaking and critically acclaimed touring production will then travel to Bristol, Birmingham, Bradford, Southampton, Liverpool, Dublin, Sunderland, Cardiff and Manchester, where it will conclude at the Palace Theatre for Christmas 2024/5.

Wicked the musical is the West End and Broadway musical phenomenon, which tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, continues its open-ended run at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre , where it has already been seen by more than 11 million people and is now in its 17 th year, making it the 12th longest-running production in West End history. Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s musical, based on the novel by Gregory  Maguire, imagines a beguiling backstory and future possibilities to the lives of L. Frank Baum’s beloved characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and reveals the decisions and events that shape the destinies of two unlikely university friends on their journey to becoming Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West .

With a huge touring cast, orchestra, company and crew of 82 people, plus an additional 20 people employed in each city, played to sold-out audiences during two previous tours of the UK & Ireland, winning the BroadwayWorld UK Award for ‘Best Touring Production’.

Having previously played the role in the West End, Laura Pick will lead the cast as Elphaba with Sarah O’Connor as Glinda Carl Man as Fiyero.

Joining them are Donna Berlin as Madame Morrible, Simeon Truby as The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond, Jed Berry as Boq, Megan Gardiner as Nessarose and Casey Al-Shaqsy as Standby for Elphaba.

Wicked is adapted by Winnie Holzman from Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and has songs by Stephen Schwartz. Musical staging is by Wayne Cilento with direction by Joe Mantello.

Alongside its upcoming tour, Wicked continues to run in the West End where it first opened in 2006 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The show is also running on Broadway where it will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023.

WICKED will fly to cities in England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland from 7 December 2023 and producers today announce that Sarah O’Connor ( Glinda ), Donna Berlin ( Madame Morrible ), Jed Berry ( Boq ), Megan Gardiner ( Nessarose ), and Casey Al-Shaqsy (Standby for Elphaba ) will join the previously announced Laura Pick ( Elphaba ), Carl Man ( Fiyero ), and Simeon Truby ( The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond ).

While the West End is undoubtedly the birthplace of musicals (sorry Broadway, but it's true), we can't help but notice that most major shows have outgrown their London home and moved out over the last few years.

From renowned classics like The Wizard of Oz and Chicago to more recent hits like Dear Evan Hansen, many shows are making their way across the country on tour.

This recent upswing in travelling musicals can only be considered a good thing as, instead of spending your weekends buying expensive train tickets into town, you can find a top quality West End show right on your doorstep.

Shrek the Musical is returning to London's Eventim Apollo this August, but not before rocking up in Birmingham, Derry, Northampton and Canterbury. Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular
