Helen brennan.

Really enjoyed my day, it was relaxing and fun. The next time I want a day trip to unwind, would definitely consider another visit to Green Island. Thanks
Overall it was very good. I am a hard marker, but l would give a mark of 88 out of 100 just short of excellent which would be 90 plus

Michelle Res

An enjoyable trip on the train and skyrail with fantastic scenery. I walked to the Barron Falls from Kuranda rather than spending time in the village.

Karol Rehdner

It was a wonderful day. We only wish that we had some extra time to spend in Kuranda beyond the visit to Koala Gardens as it did deserve more time.
The trip down is fantastic. Fistroy island is one the best place to visit. And the trip to and fro is on time and pleasant. For anyone who does not like a bumpy ride, esp when water is rough can consider to sit at the back row

Ian Swindale

Tour is a must if visiting Cairns.
Hi travstar team thank you for for oganising a great day to kuranda. It was great to be picked up and dropped off at my accommodation by a very helpful bus driver. The connections went very well. Up by the train and down by the skyrail. It would have been good to have had longer at kuranda as i had a ticket to explore three wildlife parks and i only saw two. My friend from scotland did not get a chance to get her photo taken with a koala as the 1.30 appointment was too late. I felt the time on the mountain was too rushed and i would have liked to be there for longer bye vivien.

KENNETH MARK WILKINSON

Best way to view the rain forest

Leanne Speedy

Very well organized outing. Driver was at the hotel early and gave us all the information we needed for the day regarding timing and tickets. Train trip was great and the Skyrail was a great experience even though I am not a fan of heights!! Driver gave us a great commentary on the way back to the hotel with a bit of local history and explanation of what we were seeing. Arrived back well within the suggested time and had a great day. Happy to recommend to others.

Rosi Trappel

Was a great day out but thought the birds, koalas etc were included in the price. My mistake

Linda Stewart

Excellent relaxing day out
Took my kids and grandchildren ages 6mths through to 32. They catered for everyone and we had a fantastic day
Great driver, great food, great wine and spirits, a great relaxing day must do when in cairns

Cairns Cruise Port

The majority of the cruise ships dock at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal (aka Trinity Wharf), located within a short walking distance from Cairns downtown (also referred to as Cairns CBD – Cairns’ central business district). The port of Cairns has a 595-meter (1952 ft) long quay line with two berths dedicated to cruise vessels (Wharves 1 and 5) and two ships that can dock simultaneously. The dedicated cruise terminal building is located on Wharf 2/3.

Due to the Entrance Channel restrictions, some large cruise liners may anchor at Trinity Bay in the open sea, from where the tender boats are used to transfer passengers to Yorkeys Knob Cruise Tender Terminal , located next to the Half Moon Bay Marina in Yorkeys Knob, Cairns’ northern coastal suburb. From there, passengers can take the shuttle bus to Cairns CBD, which is located around 17 km/10.5 miles (less than a 20-minute drive) to the southeast. Shuttle buses may be free of charge, however, check this with your cruise ship in advance.

Cairns port also serves reef passenger ferries offering daily boat trips to the Great Barrier Reef from Reef Fleet Terminal, located 650 meters away from the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal. Reef Fleet Terminal is housed in a modern, 2-level terminal building filled with shops, cafes, and eateries, and is located next to Cairns Marlin Marina, an upscale marina with berths that can accommodate a variety of cruising vessels, including superyachts up to 140 meters long.

Its biggest attraction is Kuranda Scenic Railway , a 37 km/23 miles long scenic tourist railway journey through the Barron Gorge National Park from the Cairns railway station to Kuranda railway station.

It is an incredible journey through the ancient rainforests, dramatic gorges, and World Heritage natural landscapes including stunning waterfalls, hand-carved tunnels, steep ravines and bridges. The train journey takes about a 1-hour and 45 minutes and departs twice daily from Cairns Railway Station.

5. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

Soaring through the treetops of Barron Gorge National Park in a 7.5 km/4.7 miles long scenic tourist cable way is another spectacular way of discovering the tropical north Queensland’s rainforests and natural wonders. The journey takes several hours and includes two rainforest stations: Red Peak and Barron Falls, which allow visitors to explore and learn more about this breathtaking World Heritage area.

The cable car operates from the Smithfield Terminal in Cairns to the Kuranda terminal in the highland region of Atherton Tablelands. Smithfield Terminal is located a 20-minute drive northwest of Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and a 10-minute drive from Yorkeys Knob Cruise Tender Terminal. Some tours combine both Skyrail Rainforest cable car and Kuranda Scenic Railway.

6. Atherton Tablelands

Atherton Tableland is a highland region known for its sweeping plateaus and idyllic waterfalls surrounded by lush rainforests, wetlands, mountain lakes, unique wildlife and other geological wonders. The region has become the ultimate cycling destination in the past few years with the growing popularity of the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park , a network of single-track trails purpose-built for mountain bike riding.

Besides biking and cycling, here you can go hiking, wildlife spotting, visit some cultural attractions and so much more. One of the major natural attractions is Millaa Millaa Waterfall , a beautiful 18-meter-high waterfall plunging into a swimming hole surrounded by tropical greenery.  Atherton , the main town of the region, is located a 1-hour 20-minute drive southwest of the Cairns CBD and the cruise terminal.

7. Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park offers an incredible insight into Australia’s diverse Aboriginal heritage and 40,000-year-old history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The park is located in Smithfield, at the base of the Skyrail cableway, a 20-minute drive northwest of Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and less than a 10-minute drive southwest of the Yorkeys Knob Cruise Tender Terminal.

The Tjapukai people (aka Djabugay people, meaning the “People of the Rainforest”) are a group of Australian Aboriginal people who inhabited the tropic region that extends from Cairns to Port Douglas and inland to Kuranda. Set on 25 acres, this cultural park features a museum, a gallery, the Creation and History Theatre with live performances, activities and interactive experiences allowing visitors to discover Tjapukai people’s arts, traditions, and foods.

WELCOME CRUISE SHIP PASSENGERS!

We would be delighted to assist you – we help many cruise ship passengers! You will also note that our prices are much cheaper than what your cruise ships are offering you !

Many of you are docking at Yorkeys Knob Marina (not Trinity Wharf which is in Cairns), which is 20-25 mins from Cairns. Your vessel also does not dock alongside the Marina/wharf so you can not walk ashore. Everyone therefore MUST come ashore by tender vessel – which can take about an hour to get ashore, which we factor in what offering you tours to suit your timing.

EXAMPLES OF THESE VESSELS THAT DOCK AT YORKEYS KNOB INCLUDE:-

  • PACIFIC DAWN
  • CELEBRITY SOLTICE
  • RADIANCE OF THE SEAS
  • PACIFIC PEARL
  • QUEEN MARY 2

Many of the passengers from the above vessels want to go out to the Great Barrier Reef. Vessels that come in at 7 am are not a problem as we can offer them many more options. However vessels that come in at 8 or 9 or 10 am have less great barrier reef options as most of the reef boats have already left by 7.30 to 8.30 am – however there are some options I can offer passengers from Yorkeys Knob that come in on later cruiseships....!

1. CRUISE SHIPS THAT SPEND ONE DAY IN CAIRNS AND ONE DAY IN PORT DOUGLAS

As your ship is also going to Port Douglas – I would suggest you do the Kuranda Skyrail and Train on your day in Cairns –  click here  – pick up 10.30 am (can be earlier for ships coming in earlier)– skyrail up to Kuranda, freetime in Kuranda and 2 pm or 3.30 pm train back to Cairns – back at yorkeys by 4.30 pm or 6 pm = $122 per adult. Then you do the great barrier reef from port douglas instead- there is a fantastic option out to an outer reef pontoon (lunch, semi submarine, underwater observatory, snorkling) that departs port douglas at 10 am (so ideal!) and returns at 4.30 pm. Price $219 pp plus $6 pp reef tax.

2. 11 am to 5 pm  Green Island – snorkel and semi submarine and lunch $124 per adult plus $16 pp bus transfers – back in Yorkeys by 5.45 pm – I can also offer a half day option, or a 4 p return for those with an earlier cruise ship departure!

3. 10.30 am cruise to an  outer reef pontoon – snorkling, lunch, semi submarine, underwater observatory (although still a little tight for some on a later cruise ship arrival - yorkeys knob is 20 mins from the departure point and it takes about an hour to get everyone ashore by tender from the cruise ship. $208pp per adult, $104 per child (4-14 years) and $520 per family of 4 (2 ads 2 ch 4-14 years) plus $6 pp reef tax, Back at 5.20 pm in Cairns – 25 mins drive to Yorkeys knob – This suits the 7 pm and 8 pm cruise ship departures (Radiance of the Seas, Aurora)

4. Fly by heli out to the outer reef at noon and 3 hours at the outer reef, back by boat at 5.20 pm – bus back to yorkeys – back by 6 pm = $439 pp (FLY / CRUISE) – (ideal for cruise ships that arrive later in Yorkeys Knob and leave at 7 or 8 pm = Celebrity Soltice)

5. For passengers with a very short amount of time in Cairns we can offer you a FLY / FLY option – where you fly out to the reef to a pontoon, enjoy snorkling, semi submarine, underwater observatory and fly back to Cairns at 3.45 pm, back out to Yorkeys by 4 pm  = $798 pp.

6. We can also charter you a vessel – small groups to large groups to suit your exact needs and requirements. Anything is possible – just ask us – call +61 7 40559698 (international) or 07 40559698 (within Aus) or email - [email protected]

As cruise ship days are VERY busy they book up ahead of time – so I suggest we lock your chosen options in ASAP. Please note our prices are much cheaper than booking the same tour through your cruise ship, so we can save you $$$$$$
