Hall and Oates Confirm Rescheduled 2021 Tour Dates

Hall & Oates confirmed their upcoming 2021 tour schedule, rerouting the remaining dates that were previously postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band's North American trek is currently scheduled to kick off April 17 in Indio, Calif., and continues April 23 in Honolulu; April 25 in Kahului, Hawaii; and May 21 and 22 in Mashantucket, Ct. Their stint  featuring openers Squeeze and KT Tunstall commences Aug. 5 in Mansfield, Mass., and wraps Oct. 5 in Mountain View, Calif. The band's Oct. 7 stop in Portland, Ore., features only Tunstall.

You can see the dates below. Full ticket info is available at the band's website .

John Oates dismissed two popular touring strategies in a 2020 Rolling Stone interview, saying he doesn't like the idea of full-album or "farewell" runs. "I don't think we'd ever do a farewell tour," he said. "Every farewell tour I've ever heard about didn't turn out to be a farewell tour, so I don't know what the hell that means. Sure, if it's a marketing ploy, hey, why not? Everyone needs a hook. Everyone need a shtick. Whatever."

In that same interview, the guitarist noted that Hall & Oates had entered the "early, preliminary days" of a new LP, with Daryl Hall working in Europe with "some young producers he'd getting kind of energized with."

Hall then followed up on that comment in April with UCR, saying he'd worked on seven songs with Dutch producer Jett Rebel, whom he'd met while in Holland playing a festival.

"He literally just came up to me and said, 'Hey, man, I’m a giant fan of yours,' and we just started talking," Hall said. "He gave me a CD of himself, and I went back and went online and listened to what he was doing, and I went, 'This guy is really good.' I started contacting him and we had email conversations."

Hall also noted that he's been "channeling himself" on his latest music: "I think of my own catalog and my own songs, and that can go a lot of different directions."

Hall and oates are on tour in 2023…separately. get tickets today..

Daryl Hall (L) and John Oates are going on separate solo tours in 2023. Here, they're jamming out together onstage.

We’re here to sort of “Make Your Dreams Come True.”

In 2023, Daryl Hall and John Oates are going on tour — just not together.

From May 24 through June 9, Daryl Hall and the Daryl’s House Band are taking off on an eight-concert tour that includes stops in Montclair, NJ on May 24, Port Chester, NY on June 7 and Atlantic City, NJ on June 9.

His bandmate, John Oates will play five spring shows in California, Nashville and Chicago from April 13 through May 25.

At the time of publication, none of Oates’ shows are scheduled to take place in the Northeast.

No word on whether either Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will appear at each other’s shows either.

With that being said, if you want to see half of Hall and Oates — Hall or Oates — here’s everything you need to know.

Daryl Hall 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all tour dates and venues for Hall’s eight 2023 concerts can be found below.

John Oates 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar of all John Oates tour dates is listed below.

Daryl Hall new music

Hall went old school in 2022 and dropped the rare double album.

“Before After,” comprised of 30 tracks, features Hall’s signature classic sound — the indefinable center between pop and rock.

If you want to hear the double album in its entirety, you can find “Before After” here .

John Oates new music

Last year, Oates dropped just one song — the sensual single “Pushin’ A Rock” that sounds like it could fit in a playlist next to “She’s Gone,” “Maneater” and “Rich Girl.”

In 2023, Oates went a bit more downtempo. Thus far in this young year, he’s released just one song, the ballad “Disconnected.”

You can hear both songs here .

Hall & Oates & Squeeze Confirm Rescheduled Tour Dates

Daryl Hall and John Oates have rolled out their rescheduled itinerary including their summer and fall run with Squeeze and special guest KT Tunstall . As it stands now, Hall & Oates will open up their year on their own with a smattering of shows on their own, kicking things off on April 17th in Indio, California.

The joint Squeeze dates begin on August 5th in Mansfield, Massachusetts, with the 24-date tour running through the fall. Hall & Oates close out their season right where they began — on November 6th in Indio, California.

Fans who have followed Hall & Oates' live career over the years know all too well, that every year the material seems to take on totally new dimensions from the original hits. Daryl Hall explained that from tour to tour, songs can change in some pretty noticeable ways: “These songs have morphed so much. I mean, that's what happens. You have a band that knows each other as well as we do (and) things happen on each song. We leave lots of room for improvisation, changing of the arrangements and stuff like that. That's what keeps them interesting to us, too. Otherwise it would be, just going through the motions.”

Squeeze's Glenn Tilbrook admitted being estranged from Chris Difford for nearly a decade only made him enjoy and respect their partnership more: “Not working together has enabled us to appreciate each other for what we are. And not having the responsibility of going up each other's noses all the time has enabled us to get back our relationship, which was lost, really, when we started making records. I would rather have the relationship with Chris, and friendship, rather than the professional relationship — that's more important to me. And we get on better now than we have done at, y'know, any point since 1976, which is great.”

NEW YORK — John Oates of Hall & Oates, the multi-platinum soul-pop duo behind hits like ″Private Eyes,” ″Rich Girl” and “Maneater,” has been eager to return to concert stages again.

“No one’s ever experienced a time like this in our modern world,” he says. “Quite honestly, this is the longest I have not played live in my entire professional career.”

Hall & Oates had planned to tour in 2020 but only managed one stop at Madison Square Garden in late February before COVID-19 restrictions led to the nation’s concert venues being shuttered. The tour arrives Aug. 26 at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, a rescheduled date from July 18, 2020.

“We really had a cool show planned. And so because we had invested time and energy into that show, we kind of just put it in mothballs, basically. And now we’re bringing it back up because no one’s really seen it,” said Oates.

The new tour kicked off Aug. 5 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and will end with a two-night stand Dec. 3-4 in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The tour is proceeding just as the delta variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly, and Oates says he and the band are taking it day-by-day. “Every day is going to be a new day,” he says. “You know, we don’t know what the world’s going to deliver to us in the next month. We’ll roll with it and take what we can get.”

Since the early ’70s, Oates and Daryl Hall’s brand of Philadelphia-born “blue-eyed soul” has scored six No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Kiss on My List” and ″I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do).” They also achieved six platinum albums and many more Top 10 singles like “Sara Smile” and ″She’s Gone.”

Fans can expect all the hits played live. Hall & Oates are not the kind of group that shrugs off their past work or distances themselves from commercial winners. They know what fills the venues.

“We have this incredibly good problem of having so many hits,” Oates says. “We love those songs. Believe me, it’s not a chore to play those songs because they are really great. And obviously they speak for themselves because they stood the test of time.”

He says he looks out at the audience at shows and sees more than grown-ups who grooved to his music decades ago. He sees teenagers and pre-teens, thirtysomethings and fortysomethings — people “straight across the board” — who come for the music.

“They’re well-crafted pop songs. They seem to have a connection that is not tied to a period of time. You know, they don’t sound old and nostalgic,” he says. “They seem to evoke the same response in young kids today as they did when they were new back in the ‘70s and ’80s.”

And he jokes there’s one tune that perfectly fits today’s COVID-19 mood. “We’ve got a song called ‘Out of Touch’ which I guess is totally appropriate.”

John Oates on 50 Years With Daryl Hall, “You Make My Dreams,” and the Problem With Having Too Many Hits

Image may contain Human Person and Face

John Oates met Daryl Hall in 1967, and the two Philadelphia singer/songwriters released their first album together in 1972, eventually becoming the most successful duo in American pop history. They topped the Hot 100 half a dozen times and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. And in some ways their slick rock and soul sound is cooler now than when they were ubiquitous MTV hitmakers, sampled by rappers like 2 Chainz , name-checked as an influence by indie rockers, and constantly popping up in movies and television.

Hall and Oates announced a U.S. tour with Squeeze in 2020 that, like every other tour in 2020, was postponed amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. But both bands were able to reassemble and kick off the rescheduled tour on Thursday in Mansfield, Massachusetts. The morning before their tour resumed, John Oates called GQ to discuss how he spent his year at home, returning to the road, and how “You Make My Dreams” unexpectedly turned into a pop culture staple that became their first song to hit a billion streams last year.

GQ: So tonight is your first performance since when?

John Oates: February 28, 2020. I was at Madison Square Garden and that was going to be the beginning of a very successful 2020, and then that was the end. (laughs)

What have you guys been doing with yourselves in the past year?

Well, I can’t speak for Daryl but I know what I’ve been doing. Frankly it took quite a while for me to come to grips with the fact that I wouldn’t be traveling, because at first we didn’t know what this was really going to mean. It was the first time in my professional life that I hadn’t traveled, honestly. So I stayed home, embraced the fact that my wife and I could really enjoy being together, and I began to do things virtually.

I began to write and collaborate with people all around the world. And some projects started coming my way that, had I been on tour, would not have happened. There was a movie project—I got to do five songs for an indie film [still untitled] from E.J. Forrester, a friend of mine from Colorado. I collaborated with a guy named Jack Savoretti in London who has a very successful album that just came out. My wife found a young undiscovered artist named Sirlan Campbell on Instagram and he and I began to work together and do a few things, and we’re going to release a single . And then my wife and I put on a virtual song festival that we streamed online for the benefit of Feeding America, and we generated 450,000 meals for hungry American families, which has been kind of a personal passion of ours, to help in that arena.

You guys have this catalog that just keeps coming back in different forms. When people request to use your songs for samples or for movies, are you active in that or do you just let people do what they want with them?

We’re very proactive with it, we have an entire licensing team with BMG and Sony Legacy. They’re constantly working our catalog. And so what they do is they inform us of requests for various things like samples and/or licensing opportunities, whether it’s movies, commercials, TVs, whatever it might be. And then we approve or do not approve.

What does it take to not approve something?

Something’s crappy or objectionable in some way, or just not appropriate for who we are and the kind of image that we want to project, that sort of thing.

It was cool to see “You Make My Dreams” hit a billion streams last year. I grew up not hearing that song a lot, I didn’t think it was considered one of your biggest songs, and at some point it just became huge.

I know, it’s crazy, it’s taken on a whole new life. That song, I believe it went into the top five but it was not a number one record. It got overshadowed by the big number ones, and it wasn’t even released as a single in the UK or Europe, so it was virtually unknown really outside of the US.

At what point did you notice something happening with that song? I know Wedding Singer was one of the first movies to use it, but then about 10 years later it started to pop up everywhere.

It was a combination of things. When I saw how they used it in 500 Days of Summer , I thought it was really one of the best integrated usages of a song in a film, because it seemed to symbolize the feeling that he was having at the time, and the way they did it with the cartoon birds and the kind of joyful euphoria of falling in love. There was something about the magic of what they did in the film and how the music really enhanced what the film was doing and vice versa.

I had kind of an experience in the theater, I knew the song was in the movie but I didn’t know how it was being used. So my wife and son, we were in L.A. and had an afternoon off and went to a matinee. We were the only ones in there except for a few teenage girls. And when that song came on and that scene happened, the girls started clapping. And I thought, that’s weird, I’ve never heard people clapping in a movie theater. So I knew that it was connecting in some way. And that was only the beginning.

I love your early stuff, so I enjoyed hearing “When the Morning Comes” in Palm Springs last year.

Yeah, I love the ‘70s era too, which is overshadowed by the big hits of the ‘80s. But the ‘70s were my sweet spot, because everything was new, we weren’t these kings of pop, so to speak, of the ‘80s decade. Every city we went to was a new experience, developing our band, developing our show, developing our writing, everything was in the process of becoming. And to be honest with you, I find that the story of creating something is much more interesting than taking a victory lap.

The Best Dress Socks Send Your Feet Pics Into the Stratosphere

Abandoned Luncheonette is such a cool, unique album. I saw that it took about 30 years to go platinum, so that’s another record that took time to really get its due.

I just got a platinum album for that a few years ago, it’s crazy. And of course “She’s Gone” was really the big hit off that album, that’s the song that put us on the map. Without that, who knows what would have happened?

The Bernard Purdie drums on “She’s Gone” and a few other tracks on that album are amazing.

Are you kidding me? That was one of the highlights of my life to play with those session musicians on that Abandoned Luncheonette session, and especially Bernard Purdie. He was always a favorite even back then to me. And so the fact that we had Arif Mardin producing us, he could surround us with these incredible New York session players, Joe Farrell, Bernard Purdie, Gordon Edwards, Ralph McDonald on percussion, Hugh McCracken played some guitar.

One thing the great drummers seem to have, they have this unspoken command of the groove. When you play with a great drummer, your life becomes easy, everything floats on this confident unshakable groove, and it really changes everything, it makes you a better player, it frees you up to do other things, because there’s this heartbeat that just won’t quit. And that’s what he would bring. One thing I noticed, during that session, is when he would count off a song, it was always right. It was always exactly where it should have been. Sometimes you play with a drummer and they count off something, “Eh, let’s do it a little quicker, that feels like it’s dragging.” Not with him, he counted it off and it just settled into this perfect tempo.

You wrote and sang lead a bit more on the ‘70s albums. Were you at a certain point ceding the spotlight to Daryl? What is songwriting collaboration like for you guys?

The songwriting collaboration was that there were no rules. We’d write a song separately, we’d write a song partially, we’d operate almost as editors of each other, or have a true collaboration, and everything in between. What I think happened, obviously Daryl’s voice is so outstanding, and his voice really cut through the radio way better than mine. I’m a good singer, I’m not a great singer, but when you’re standing next to Daryl, he’s a great singer. So naturally radio kind of gravitated to his voice, and his voice became the signature of the sound.

What goes into making a setlist for you guys?

Here’s the thing, y’know, we’re victims of our own success. And I don’t mean that in any negative way at all. We have this incredibly great issue, and the issue is that our hits are evergreen and they stand the test of time, and everyone comes to hear them. I personally feel like I have a professional responsibility to play songs that people expect to hear when they pay good money and make an effort to come and hear and see us. But that being said, it doesn’t leave a lot of room to tap the vast and I think musically interesting catalog that we have.

Yeah, a band that has three or four hits can pepper those in and do whatever they want the rest of the show, where you guys have so many songs that people want to hear every night.

We have a set full of hits, there’s no doubt about it. But y’know, listen, go see Elton John, same thing, go see Paul McCartney, same thing’s going to happen. It’s a blessing, c’mon, if every artist could have their dream set, that’s what they would have. We’re fortunate to be able to do that. And what we do is we rotate various kind of album-esque tracks into the set, and it’s fun for us, because we change that up a lot. We put “Is It A Star” in the set, which is a pretty obscure song from the War Babies album. But it’s a cool chance for me to play a little bit more blues guitar, it’s kind of in a different groove from most of our other material. And then we’re thinking about playing a song like “Back Together Again,” which was a semi-hit, went into the top 20, but it’s got a great feel. A lot of times we’ll look for a spot in the set where we feel we need something. And so then we can go to this catalog of 300 songs and find something.

Being a duo for 50 years can’t be easy. I’m sure there’s ups and downs.

Y’know, way more ups than downs, to be honest with you. It’s actually a miracle, I’m actually shocked that we are able to still play together and it’s great. It’s something that you have to really appreciate, because like you said, it’s not easy.

Do you get recognized less when you shave off the mustache?

Well, I didn’t have a mustache for quite a while in the ‘90s, then I have a mustache again with a goatee, I have a modern version. I definitely don’t have the ‘70s macho ‘stache, that’s gone.

This live blog has ended. For the most recent updates, please click here .

What we know about the Moscow concert attack

  • Men in camouflage broke into a Moscow concert hall and opened fire, shooting an unknown number of people, Russia’s prosecutor general said.
  • The terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility but did not provide proof of the claim, which was made on ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.
  • Russia's Investigative Committee said that more than 60 people are dead after the attack at Crocus City Hall. Officials have said more than 100 others were injured.
  • A fire also started inside Crocus City Hall, a large concert venue northwest of central Moscow. Firefighters have evacuated about 100 people from the basement of the building and efforts are underway to rescue people from the roof, Russian emergency officials said.
  • Russia officials said they were investigating the attack as a terrorist act.
  • A popular rock band was scheduled to play what appeared to be a sold-out show at the venue, which has a maximum capacity of more than 9,000 people.

Three children were among the more than 60 people killed in yesterday's attack at Crocus City Hall, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Health.

Officials have warned that the death toll connected to the deadly incident may increase as the investigation continues.

Xi sends condolences to Putin

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday after a deadly shooting at a concert hall near Moscow, saying China opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns terrorist attacks.

China firmly supports the Russian government’s efforts to maintain national security and stability, Xi said, according to CCTV state television.

Moscow bloodshed comes two decades after some of worst attacks in Russia

Phil Helsel

The shooting attacks in Moscow are the latest in a series of deadly terror attacks in the country since the 2000s.

In 2004, militants from Chechnya and elsewhere took hostages at a school in Beslan in southern Russia.

The militants demanded a withdrawal from Chechnya. Hostages were kept in a gymnasium, and 334 died — half of them children — when gunfire and explosions erupted when it was stormed. Hostages’ families were critical of the rescue operation. Russian prosecutors later cleared authorities .

Two years prior, in 2002, Chechen separatists attacked the Dubrovka Theater in Moscow and took more than 700 people hostage. Russian forces used gas, and 129 hostages died. The attackers were killed.

More recently, in 2017 a suicide bomber from Kyrgyzstan killed 15 people as well as himself in an attack on a St. Petersburg subway. In 2013, two bombers killed a combined 34 people in attacks on a railway station and a trolleybus in Volgograd.

The group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for the attacks Friday at the Crocus City Hall venue.

Putin wishes victims well, deputy prime minister says

President Vladimir Putin is thinking of those injured in today’s attack and thanked doctors, a Russian government official said according to state media.

State media TASS reported that “Putin wished all those injured in the emergency at Crocus City Hall to recover and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors, Golikova said,” referring to Tatiana Golikova deputy prime minister for social policy, labor, health and pension provision.

More than 60 dead, and death toll could grow, Russian agency says

Russia’s Investigative Committee said Saturday that more than 60 people have died in the attack, and warned the number may increase.

“The bodies of the dead are being examined. It has been previously established that more than 60 people died as a result of the terrorist attack. Unfortunately, the number of victims may increase,” according to the Investigative Committee, which is a federal state agency.

Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs and the security agency FSB are continuing to investigate, the committee said in a statement, and weapons and ammunition have been found.

U.S. warned Russia about planned terrorist attack in Moscow, NSC says

Monica Alba

The United States shared information about a potential terrorist attack in Moscow with Russia’s government earlier this month, a spokesperson for the National Security Council said.

The U.S. Embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds and said it was monitoring reports that extremists might attack large gatherings in Moscow.

“Earlier this month, the U.S. Government had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow — potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts — which prompted the State Department to issue a public advisory to Americans in Russia,” NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

“The U.S. Government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding ‘duty to warn’ policy,” Watson said.

Putin recently dismissed ‘provocative’ warning about potential attacks

In remarks that aired three days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of “provocative statements” about potential terror attacks in Russia, and dismissed them.

Putin Russian Election Moscow

“I’ll remind you of recent, let’s say directly, provocative statements of certain official Western structures about potential terror attacks in Russia,” Putin said.

“All of this looks like obvious blackmail and an attempt to intimidate, destabilize our country,” he said before the state security agency FSB.

Putin in those remarks did not specify a country or warning. The U.S. embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds .

“The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours,” the U.S. embassy warned.

Guards at concert hall didn't have guns, state news says

The Associated Press

Guards at the concert hall didn’t have guns, and some could have been killed at the start of the attack, Russian media reported.

Some Russian news outlets suggested the assailants fled before special forces and riot police arrived.

Reports said police patrols were looking for several vehicles the attackers could have used to escape.

U.S. had been gathering intelligence that ISIS could attack Russia

Ken Dilanian

The U.S. had been gathering intelligence for months that ISIS could mount a mass casualty attack in Russia, two U.S. officials confirmed to NBC News.

That information led to a March 7 warning issued by the U.S. embassy in Russia about possible extremist attacks, including at concerts, urging people to stay away from large gatherings, one of the officials said.

That official said the claim of responsibility today by ISIS appears to be genuine, though no final assessment had been made about who was responsible.

Some Moscow concertgoers filmed events as they unfolded Friday night, when gunmen opened fire inside a theater and people ran to take cover in fear for their lives.

Witness says gunfire was first thought to be construction noise

A witness to today’s armed attack on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall told a state news agency that they first mistook the gunfire for sounds of an installation being dismantled.

“First, we started hearing typical loud pops, but it was impossible to understand that they were gunshots. We thought that something was falling, as exhibitions were being dismantled at that moment, and someone seemed to be dropping something large,” Mikhail Semyonov told TASS .

“Then, the bangs were getting more and more frequent. Suddenly, there was a scream, and the bangs started to be heard as bursts. Then it became clear that it was shooting,” he said.

ISIS claims responsibility for attack but does not provide proof

The terror group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in Moscow.

The group, also known as ISIS, did not provide any proof of its claim, which came from ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.

The group’s members have carried out a number of terror attacks, including the 2015 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, said children were among the victims of tonight's attack.

"Information about their condition is regularly updated," Lvova-Belova said on Telegram. "Any additional assistance will be provided immediately."

She later told Russia 24 TV channel that at least two children had been injured, including one boy with a gunshot wound.

Earlier, Russian officials released a preliminary casualty toll of at least 40 people dead and more than 100 injured.

France, U.K., Germany condemn attack

Officials from France, the U.K. and Germany were among those who expressed their condolences to the victims of the attack at the Crocus concert hall.

"We condemn the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow," the U.K.'s embassy in Russia said . "This is a terrible tragedy."

Meanwhile, France's foreign ministry called for "full light" to be shed on "these heinous acts."

Public events across Russia called off after attack

Several regional leaders across Russia, including in the annexed Kherson region of Ukraine, have canceled public events this weekend over security considerations after the deadly concert attack in Moscow.

Shortly after the attack, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin canceled all sports, cultural and other public events in Moscow this weekend. State news agency TASS also quoted Russia's cultural ministry as saying that mass and entertainment events in federal cultural institutions have been canceled in the coming days.

Zelenskyy adviser speaks out about attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s adviser denied that Ukraine was involved in the deadly Crocus concert hall attack.

“Ukraine certainly has nothing to do with the shooting/explosions in the Crocus City Hall (Moscow Region, Russia),” Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on X. “It makes no sense whatsoever.”

No evidence has emerged to suggest Ukraine may have been involved, but Ukrainian officials may be trying to pre-empt accusations, as some Kremlin hawks have already started pointing at Kyiv.

Asked whether the shooting was at all tied to the war in Ukraine, U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said: “There is no indication at this time that Ukraine, or Ukrainians, were involved in the shooting, but again, this just broke. We’re taking a look at it, but I would disabuse you at this early hour have any connection to Ukraine.”

Videos posted to social media appear to show chaos inside Moscow's Crocus City Hall during and after a terrorist attack.

Some videos include what sound like gunshots and show men with rifles, as concertgoers frantically try to exit the venue.
