One can't avoid Mathura pera. We also had site visits at Agra. The most important part at Agra was visit a simple and modest family. There we were aerved excellent yummy pure vegetarian food accompanied by hot puris.the family received us and also greeted us with much love and affection. We felt being at home eating home made food. Our driver Ashok, I must say is not just top driver, but also a very good guide. He drove us wherever we wished to go and was so helpful all the way. I would suggest to have a pick up point near the hotel or pick up from the hotel itself and drop off too because we reached back the city at almost 11PM. The spectacular Rajasthani-styled edifice is embellished with intricate stonework and arched windows. One unique feature of this temple is that bells and conches are not used for divine invocations. The peaceful chanting of ‘Radha Naam’ serves the purpose.

Constructed around the prison cell where Lord Krishna’s parents, Vasudeva and Devaki were imprisoned, Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi is regarded as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Earlier destroyed by many kings, it had finally been built with the help of industrialists. The celebrations of Holi, Basant Panchami, Janmashtami, and Deepavali are the perfect time to feel the spiritual ambiance of the temple.

You can gape at the marvelous depiction of various scenes of Lord Krishna’s life on the ceilings, supported by 5 rows of richly carved pillars.

6. Vishram Ghat

This Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan itinerary would be a great idea for weekend travelers or the ones who want to explore these places on a 2 day schedule. So, let’s get started.

Getting From Delhi To Agra

Day 1 : taj mahal, agra fort and fatehpur sikri, day 2 : mathura and vrindavan.

If you are coming to India from overseas, it is most probable that you will be landing at the Delhi Airport. If this is not the case you may still consider the train as the fastest mode of transportation from your city to Agra . Below are the different ways of traveling from Delhi to Agra, you can follow any of these as per your convenience :

By Train : You can reach the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) using the rapid metro service from Delhi Airport . The easiest way to book a train from Delhi To Agra is through Clear Trip website . Fatehpur Sikri

Post lunch, visit the Fatehpur Sikri which is a palace city and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Built of red sandstone this palace city comprises of many popular structures such as the tomb of sufi saint Salim Chishti, Jama Masjid, Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of public audience), Birbal’s home, Hiran Minar (Elephant tower) and Paanch Mahal(five-storied pyramidal palace).

The most noteworthy thing about Fatehpur Sikri is its distinctive layout and the majestic entrance gate known as the Bulandh Darwaza .

Tour Duration : 2 Hours (Including the 45 minutes journey from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri)

Ticket Prices : For foreign nationals the ticket for Fatehpur Sikri is priced at 260 rupees (4 USD) while for Indian nationals the ticket is priced at 20 rupees.

Opening Hours : Fatehpur Sikri remains open from 6 AM to 6:30 PM everyday except on Fridays.

I have been to Mathura and Vrindavan but not Agra and very soon planning for it.

I have been to Taj Mahal once and we were unlucky because the entire morning Taj Mahal was closed for some reason so all the visitor had to wait to the afternoon and it was crowded!

I did not realise that Mathura and Vrindavan are so close to Agra, only 60 kms ahead! I visited those cities when I was a little child and don’t remember much from my trip except that my grandparents took me to several temples while we were there! Agra, however, was a more recent trip for me so I have to agree with Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri being the top 3 places to visit there.

Its been a bit over a decade since I went on this trip. It was a super memorable one coz we took a day and half train from Chennai to Delhi! It was indeed super fun. To be honest, never thought that the Agra area is that large. It needs two days, that is good to know.

Day 1 : Delhi – Mathura

Your journey to the birthplace of Krishna i.e. Mathura will commence from Delhi and this will be a road trip of 3 hours. On reaching your exploration of this pious land will start which will include visit to places like – Dwarkadheesh Mandir, Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi – birth place of Krishna, Vishram Ghat – Krishna’s rest place after his win over tyrant Kansa. Some other places of attractions are – Gita Mandir, Radha Kund etc. after a full day of travel and sightseeing you will be assisted to your hotel where you will be staying for the night.

Day 2 : Mathura – Vrindavan

Your next day will start after having your breakfast in the morning where you will be taken for your next destination in Vrindavan. This road journey is just of half an hour and on reaching you will be taken for some sightseeing of the famous tourist attractions here like – Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir, ISKCON temple, Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir etc. by evening time you will be made to head back to your hotel allotted in Vrindavan for an overnight stay.

Day 3 : Vrindavan – Agra

After completing your breakfast in the morning you will be made to head out for your next destination of Agra which will be a journey of around 2 hours. The car we got, a MB GL350 CDI was very clean, it smelled good. Our driver Om Prakash was very courteous not only to us but also was a fine driver on Delhi roads. We took the trip to Agra from Gurgaon and it went very smooth. The driver was a safe driver and didn't over speed, not did he drive like an old lady. He did great driving the big SUV in Delhi and Agra. he was on time and we hit all the places we wanted to visit like clockwork.

We used India Taxi Online for transport from the Delhi airport right to our hotel in Agra. We booked the car the day before we needed it, so we were concerned we wouldn't be able to get a vehicle and a driver in time. Fortunately, the service replied within a couple hours and helped me work out the details and got everything organized in a timely manor. The price and estimated drive time they gave me through email were accurate and pretty fair in my opinion. Driver was very quiet (which we actually really appreciated for a 5 hour drive), and car was clean. Would definitely use this service again and suggest to anyone needing a long car journey in India.
