They say that life is about the journey and not the destination. But what does that really mean?

You’ve probably heard this line a million times before, but maybe you couldn’t quite understand what it was trying to illustrate.

The most successful people will tell you that the process of accomplishing something is far more valuable than the end result. You learn much more from all of your experiences and encounters than you do from arriving at the destination.

Ultimately, the process is the greatest reward. The sweetest moments come when you realize that you have attained the final goal because of everything you have experienced.

You look back on the mistakes, the challenges, and everything you had to endure—but you also celebrate the fact that you faced your problems head-on. Your journey through life is what makes you human.

In this article, we share with you a list of quotes about how life is a journey . We hope that, through these words, you’ll be able to enjoy everything that life has to offer. Even more so, we hope that they will inspire you to live a more meaningful and happier life .

But before we check out our list, let’s discuss how reading these quotes can get you motivated.

7 Steps to Create a Roadmap for Your Life

How to effectively navigate any major life change..

Posted March 30, 2022 | Reviewed by Ekua Hagan

  • The archetype for life is the journey. The roadmap helps chart the trip through change and transition.
  • A roadmap helps a person visualize their life—where they have been and where they want to go.
  • Learning how to navigate change and transition will help one gain control of life's circumstances.

Since the archetype for life is the journey, a roadmap will help you plan your life moving forward much as you would prepare for a trip. Charting your trip tells you where you’ve been so far, where you intend to go, what obstacles you may face, and the places you keep returning to over and over again.

Our journeys are both inner and outer. The events of the outer journey, the cumulative transitions of a lifetime, will be somewhat similar for all of us who share the human experience. Our personal inner journey is a much more private affair. The roadmap is a reliable context within which to place your very own experiences and transitions.

The nature of life is change and all of us will make many changes and go through numerous transitions as we live life. Nothing stays the same and neither do we. So much colors who we are and who we are to become. Knowingly or not, we move into new and different phases that connect us socially and emotionally to others who are going through the same phase.

But beyond the normal changes we will encounter, there will be those changes and transitions we did not expect, did not prepare for, did not want to happen. How do we cope with encounters and transitions that are difficult, challenging, and often overwhelming?

One way is to learn to be prepared for whatever comes your way. How do you do that? Well, experience will be a great teacher. Once something has happened to you, it will no longer be an unknown. You will have learned something from it. But, it’s a lot easier if you have the tools to handle change and transition so you’re not surprised, so you’ll know what to do.

Here are seven essential steps to help you navigate through any change/transition you may encounter during the course of your life.

Have a realistic expectation. Before you embark on your next big change/transition, map your trip as best you can, knowing that things don’t always work out as you plan or hope they will. Know that things can go smoothly, or there may be delays, detours, and roadblocks. Be realistic about the timetable. Again, things may happen quickly or there may be delays, sudden stops, and sometimes re-routing before you reach your destination.

Review what you’ve learned about change . Each of your trips to a new place in your life has hopefully taught you something. It’s these cumulative events and your responses to them that help you navigate whatever happens to you moving forward. What you’ve learned and how to respond will help you make the best possible choices and decisions.

The exception to that, of course, is an event that places you in imminent danger, such as a life-threatening illness, unexpected personal crisis, or natural disaster, where you have no choice but to take immediate action. In that case, once the necessary actions have been taken and the dust finally settles, you can then go back and review, in order to figure out what the change/transition meant and what to do next.

Create a Life Timetable. This timetable should reflect major life transitions. What events did you initiate on your own? In other words, what inner events caused you to make a change? What happenings were foisted upon you by life circumstances? In other words, what events happened to you from the outside; those events you had little control over? What were your “triumphs?" What were your losses? Pay attention to the main emotions for each of these changes/transitions. How did you react to whatever happened to you?

Do you view each major event in your life in a positive light—you got something out of it? Or, do you fear change because you believe the things that have happened to you have impacted you negatively?

Define your Life Themes. This goes well beyond charting the chronological order of events, the basic facts of your life. Themes are generally easily recognizable—they are recurring and repetitive. Positively, life themes help you define who you are and alert you to your purpose and passion. Developing insight into how you process life and what is most important to you can help you gain more personal control so that you can skillfully steer the course in the direction you want to go.

journey life

Get in touch with your Life Lessons. We all have them. Each of us has our own unique things to experience and lessons to be learned. Not one size fits all. Our lessons come from every single facet of our lives—our background, family, culture, religion, social group, education . Those influencers help us define who we are from birth. Some of us are fortunate enough to have been given life skills early on so that finding our way through life is made easier, while others struggle to find their way. But there is always the opportunity at any point in life to learn and receive guidance from those around you.

Where you choose to take yourself in life and who you choose to associate with will inevitably influence you greatly. Paying close attention to how you respond to life will help you become acutely aware of the life lessons that await you.

Go beyond limiting beliefs. Do you really know what you believe? We often assume we know what we believe to be true—but that’s often not the case. What we think is true is frequently colored by others’ opinions and influenced by those we admire and trust. As much as they may care about us, they may not always know what’s in our best interest. And too, often the actions we take and the choices and decisions we make are based on ideas and beliefs that no longer serve us, if they ever did. So going beyond limiting beliefs may pave the way for changing how you make transitions moving forward. Push through to beliefs that bolster your confidence and support your endeavors.

Accept the unknown. There’s so much we don’t know as we go through life. With as much planning as we’ll do to ensure our desired outcome, there will always be those times when all the planning in the world will not get us the result we want. Who knows why? But it happens. Consider the unknown your friend in life. When you accept what you can’t control, what you can’t do anything about, it becomes far easier to accept what does come and make it work for you.

As Rilke said so well, “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

  • The Journey of Life: Exploring the Beauty of Poems about Journeys

Life is a journey filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, and countless experiences that shape who we are. It is no wonder that the theme of journeys has been a popular subject in poetry for centuries. Poets have used this metaphorical concept to capture the essence of life's challenges, self-discovery, and personal growth. In this article, we will delve into the captivating world of poems about journeys in life and explore their profound meanings.

The Metaphorical Journey

One of the most fascinating aspects of poems about journeys is their metaphorical nature. These poems take readers on a symbolic expedition, where the physical voyage represents a deeper exploration of the human psyche. They invite us to reflect on our own life journeys and contemplate the lessons we have learned along the way.

One such example of a poem that beautifully encapsulates this metaphorical journey is "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. Through his masterful use of language, Frost paints a vivid picture of a traveler standing at a crossroads, contemplating which path to take. This poem serves as a reminder that life is full of choices and that the roads we choose can have a profound impact on our lives.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

The Journey of Self-Discovery

Life's journey often involves a search for meaning, purpose, and self-discovery. Many poets have explored this theme by portraying characters embarking on an introspective journey, uncovering truths about themselves along the way. These poems inspire us to reflect on our own identities and the transformative power of self-exploration.

Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem "Success" is a prime example of this genre. Emerson encourages readers to define their own version of success and to embrace their unique journey, rather than conforming to society's expectations. Through his eloquent words, Emerson reminds us that true success lies in our ability to authentically express ourselves.

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people And the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics And endure the betrayal of false friends;

The Journey of Resilience

Life's journey is not always smooth sailing. It often presents us with obstacles, hardships, and setbacks that test our resilience and determination. Poems about journeys of resilience capture the human capacity to overcome adversity and find strength in challenging moments.

Maya Angelou's powerful poem "Still I Rise" perfectly embodies this theme. Angelou's words resonate with resilience, empowering readers to rise above any difficulties they may face. Her poem serves as a reminder that no matter how many times life knocks us down, we have the power to rise again.

You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise.

Poems about journeys in life offer us a unique lens through which to view our experiences and reflect on our personal growth. They capture the essence of the human condition, reminding us that life is a continuous voyage of self-discovery, resilience, and transformation. So, as you navigate the twists and turns of your own journey, take solace in the beautiful words of these poems that illuminate the path ahead.

It is the echo of our voice, the warmth of our embrace, and the wisdom of our experiences that linger, becoming a source of inspiration for generations to come.

How Do We Make a Positive Impact on Others?

Making a positive impact on others during life’s journey is akin to crafting a symphony of inspiration and resilience, echoing the narratives of Vidya. It is a testament to our ability to transcend challenges, inspire others, and weave a tapestry of hope and compassion within the grand narrative of existence.

When we draw inspiration from the narratives of Vidya, we tap into the profound wellspring of compassion that underpins her remarkable story. Like Vidya, each step we take in the pursuit of spreading positivity and resilience contributes to the sublime harmony of human existence.

The ripples of our actions, no matter how small, resonate with the indomitable spirit that Vidya embodies, enriching the collective symphony of human experience. Through empathy and supportive gestures, we can uplift others amidst their struggles, manifesting inspiration and fortitude in everyday interactions.

10 trans people share how their life satisfaction has changed after transition

Illustration of two abstract faces on either side of a blooming flower

Transgender people overwhelmingly describe their lives after transitioning as “happier,” “authentic” and “comforting” despite a deluge of state legislation in recent years that seeks to restrict their access to health care and other aspects of life.

Over the last three years, nearly half of states have passed restrictions on transition-related medical care — such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery — for minors. Supporters of the legislation have argued that many transgender people later regret their transitions, though studies have found that only about 1%-2% of people who transition experience regret.

Earlier this year, the 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey — the largest nationwide survey of the community, with more than 90,000 trans respondents — found that 94% of respondents reported that they were “a lot more satisfied” or “a little more satisfied” with their lives.

Transgender Day of Visibility, observed on March 31, is an annual awareness day dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of trans people and acknowledging the violence and discrimination the community faces. NBC News asked transgender people from across the country to share how their life satisfaction has changed after transition. Out of two dozen respondents, all but one said they feel more joy in their lives. Here are some of their stories.

Ash Orr, 33

Morgantown, west virginia.

Orr, who is the press relations manager for the National Center for Transgender Equality, the trans rights advocacy group that conducted the nationwide survey, began socially transitioning in his mid-20s, and at 33, he received gender-affirming top surgery.

portrait

“The impact of this surgery … has been life-changing,” Orr said. “My body now feels like a comforting and familiar home, a place I had yearned for and have finally returned to.”

When Orr isn’t working, he loves immersing himself in nature, whether that’s through gardening or playing pickleball with friends. He also chases tornadoes in the Midwest — “Yes, like the movie ‘Twister’!” he said.

“My transition journey has been a profound lesson in self-discovery,” Orr said. “It has shown me that there are countless versions of myself waiting to be unearthed.”

Criss Smith, 63

After transitioning, Smith said he felt a sense of congruence between his internal sense of self and his external presentation.

Criss Smith

“I was so broken and uncertain, and now I have a profound sense of relief, empowerment and alignment with how I feel and being the best human possible,” he said. Smith said he worked on Wall Street in financial services for more than 30 years for major companies including Merrill Lynch and JPMorgan Chase. He now works as a substitute teacher for the New York City Department of Education.

“My mind is more at rest and I am at ease with every moment,” Smith said of life after his transition. “A joy fills my soul that I never thought possible before. I am truly living a full human experience presenting all of my authenticity. I live in a liberation garden.”

Gavin Grimm, 24

Hampton roads, virginia.

Grimm was the plaintiff in a landmark 2020 court case in which the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the rights of transgender students to use the school bathrooms that aligned with their gender identities. In 2021, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case and allowed the circuit court’s decision in Grimm’s favor to stand.

Gavin Grimm

Now, nearly three years later, Grimm plans to go back to college to become a middle or high school teacher. He came out and began his transition in 2013, and “to date, I have absolutely zero regrets,” he said.

“While I do still struggle with unrelated strife in my personal life, the ability to be myself fully and completely for the last decade has given me the strength and joy that I have needed to carry on,” Grimm said. “Despite these challenges, I remain very, fundamentally happy. Exquisitely happy, even, in just finding small joy each day in a world where I had the ability to access myself.”

Dani Stewart, 57

Springfield, missouri.

Stewart said transitioning was “a life saver” for her and that she feels more confident than she ever has before.

Dani Stewart

“I feel like I belong in society,” said Stewart, who said she was formerly a news desk producer at CNN and worked for various TV stations. “However, dark clouds remain for all trans people. We need better and more representation in media. We need to see more of ourselves integrated with the world around us.”

Andrea Montañez, 58

Orlando, florida.

Montañez said her son and her co-workers both observed the same change in her after she transitioned in 2018: They said they noticed her smile.

portrait

“You always were a nice person, but we didn’t know you could smile,” Montañez recalled her co-workers telling her. “I lost a lot, but I won freedom and happiness.”

Montañez is the director of advocacy and immigration at the Hope CommUnity Center in Orlando and is involved in advocating against legislation targeting LGBTQ people in Florida — work that she said has helped her build community, find happiness and “bring the magic” to her and others’ lives.

“We are a gift,” she said. “Trans people are a gift.”

Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Graham, 34

Silver spring, maryland.

In 2015, Graham said she kept a bag of women’s clothes in her car so that when she finished her shift at work as a tech support professional, she could drive to a Starbucks and change in the bathroom. She was also driving for Uber at the time, and one day she decided to dress as herself so she could practice coming out to her passengers before she came out to her family.

Lizzy Graham

She came out fully in the summer of 2015, and said her gender dysphoria, or the distress caused by a misalignment between one’s sex assigned at birth and gender identity, went away with time.

“Once I began my transition journey and began living full time, my focus and productivity improved,” she said. “Many friends and people I know who knew me prior to transitioning said that they could tell I was happier now that I came out and was living my authentic life.”

Now, Graham is a service coordinator who helps autistic children who receive Medicaid-funded services, and she leads a support group for transgender people in her area.

Jordan Reid, 27

Harper woods, michigan.

Reid said her coming out as a transgender woman in 2022 happened alongside a number of other life changes. She had just gotten divorced, and then she dropped out of medical school, or, as she says, “exploded” all of her career aspirations.

Jordan Reid

But the last two years have been much happier, she said. Reid is back in school studying computer science and data science, and has rekindled her love for music. She has played guitar since she was 10, but said she stopped because she didn’t like her singing voice. Now, she sings in the shower every day.

“On paper, it may look like I have taken quite a few steps back in life,” Reid said. “In reality, what’s on paper doesn’t matter one bit if, instead of sacrificing my joy, I get to spend the majority of my time not only smiling, but truly feeling a reason to smile.”

Tiffany Jones, 35

Newark, new jersey.

Jones, who works in an Amazon warehouse, said transitioning has helped reduce her suicidal ideation.

Tiffany Jones

“I am happy that I am living as my unapologetically authentic self,” Jones said, adding that her transition “helped me improve my self-confidence” and allowed her to be more creative. She now writes poetry, cosplays as anime characters and has a stronger support network, she said.

She said she worries about her personal safety as a Black trans woman, but “I just think about the positive things in life, and that there’s so much out there in the world, so much inspiration.”

Kylie Blackmon, 26

Azle, texas.

Blackmon said her life changed dramatically when she came out in 2021.

Kylie Blackmon

“It seemed like everything clicked mentally with me. No longer was I burdened with living a lie and having that weigh on me constantly,” she said. However, she said things are harder socially in her small Texas town of about 15,000 people, northwest of Fort Worth. She said she faces transphobia from her co-workers, and that some of her family members don’t understand her identity.

She’s currently training to be a phlebotomy technician, which is someone who collects and tests blood samples, and in her free time she enjoys doing makeup, shopping and spending time with her friends.

Cristina Angelica Piña, 23

Central valley, california.

Piña, a consultant, said that being trans can be difficult, but that “underneath this pain, there is an unfettered joy, power and beauty.”

Cristina Piña

“My existence reminds people of choice,” said Piña, who enjoys fashion, poetry, rap, cooking and spending time with her friends and her dog, Bella. “We have the autonomy to decide how we exist in the world. We have the freedom to present ourselves in a way we see fit — not what others have placed upon us.”

Mamadou Kouassi, 40, on the beach near his home in Italy. Painful memories resurfaced when he watched the film based on his epic migrant journey.

‘I was so angry’: the man who inspired Oscar-nominated film recalls epic journey from Ivory Coast to Italy

Io Capitano brings to life the traumatic experience of tens of thousands of people who flee across the Mediterranean each year

The first time Mamadou Kouassi watched the Oscar-nominated film that was inspired by his life, he wanted to smash the screen.

He had spent “about 250 hours” speaking to director Matteo Garrone – initially via video call early in the pandemic, then holed up at Garrone’s home in Rome – about his brutal three year-journey from west Africa to Europe. Over food and drink, late into the night, they dissected every line of the 300-page script, fine-tuning details in a process Kouassi says “brought peace to my soul”.

But watching his story on screen for the first time was harder than he anticipated. Seeing an actor play a hopeful teenager, like the one he once was, leaving behind his “poor but dignified” home in search of a better future, and the violence and cruelty that followed, left him “shaking” and in tears.

“I was angry. I was frightened. I felt pain,” Kouassi, 40, said. “This was the life I lived for years. And to see that … it took me back to the life I forgot.”

Based in part on Kouassi’s story, Io Capitano brings to life the journey that tens of thousands of people attempt each year – from sub-Saharan Africa, through the continent and across the Mediterranean – fleeing war, persecution or poverty.

It follows two teenage cousins who leave their homes in Dakar, Senegal, in the dead of night – without telling their mothers, who they know would beg them to stay.

Mamadou, left, and his cousin Emmanuel, right, taken 25 years ago in Ivory Coast - before they left for Europe.

The protagonist, Seydou, is an aspiring musician who dreams of becoming a star so big that white people ask for his autograph. For Kouassi – whose journey began with his cousin Emmanuel in Damé in eastern Ivory Coast – the dream was to become a footballer.

“We were watching the television, cinema, reading books… and this idea came to us that maybe in Europe we can get a better life,” said Kouassi. “This dream pushed us to follow this madness, this adventure. We didn’t know the reality of what we faced.”

The film shows the cousins using the small amount of money they have saved – in Kouassi’s case, working on cocoa and coffee farms – to buy bus tickets and fake passports, before paying a broker in Agadez, Niger, to get them to Libya. Far from the new cars they are promised, they are given seats in the back of a pick-up truck that throws them around over sand dunes, in searing heat, deep into the Sahara desert.

A still from the film Io Capitano showing African migrants in a desperately overcrowded boat making the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean to Europe.

Then, miles from civilisation, they are abandoned. During the painful, thirsty, two-week walk that follows, they see people die. At one point, Seydou sits with a woman who collapses, crying “help me, help me”, before having to leave her behind. In real life, Kouassi recalls a similar experience with a woman from Ghana who asked him to give a message to her parents: “Sorry, I couldn’t make it.” Eventually, he had to leave her. “You save yourself or you die,” he said.

Later the teenage cousins are separated and Seydou, as Kouassi was, is captured by a Libyan armed gang, who imprison and torture him. Then he is sold “like a slave”, for $400 (£320), into forced labour. Finally comes a treacherous trip arranged by people smugglers across the Mediterranean – the world’s deadliest sea crossing – in an overcrowded, unseaworthy boat.

The film, released in the UK this week, lasts two hours and two minutes, but for Kouassi the journey took three traumatic years. After he arrived in Italy in 2008, he was given a pre-paid phone card, and the first thing he did was call his mother. “She shouted: ‘You are alive! You are alive!’ She couldn’t even speak,” he said. “I said I’m sorry and gave an apology. And I said anyway, one day I hope I will be back in Africa to meet you to explain what happened.”

after newsletter promotion

Over the next five years, Kouassi slept rough in Rome, found himself working in exploitative conditions on a tobacco plantation, and faced a long battle to get approval to stay. His mother died in 2009, before he was able to return to Ivory Coast. “I didn’t have any documents, so I couldn’t even go back,” he says.

Today, things are more settled. He has two children with his Italian partner, works as a cultural mediator and translator and has the right to stay in Italy long-term. Since being asked to work as a script consultant on Io Capitano – after meeting the director via a mutual friend – he has been to the Oscars, Golden Globes and addressed politicians at the European parliament. Speaking from his home in Caserta last week, with photos of his son and daughter on the wall behind him, he said life was “good”.

But he is haunted by his experience. “Sometimes I ask myself: how did I overcome this? Because it was not easy,” he said. For years he suffered nightmares, particularly about the torture that took place in illegal prisons in Libya. The film shows him being captured by an armed group that used extreme violence once; in real life, he says, he was kidnapped four times.

Some things were ultimately not shown in the film because they were “too graphic”, including occasions where sexual violence against women was committed in front of him. “There are things I can’t even describe, but it is something you can never forget,” Kouassi says.

“That’s why, when I watched the film, I was so angry at the way people are treated. People are still facing this situation. In Italy, in the last 10 years in the Mediterranean sea, about 30,000 people died. We are always counting the number of people dying – children, women.”

Just as he felt a duty to deliver the message from the woman in the desert, he now wants to “be the voice of people without a voice”. He hopes Io Capitano and his story will help persuade politicians of the need for safe, legal immigration routes so that people can stop “risking their lives” in the Sahara and at sea.

And he hopes it will help the wider public understand the realities of what migrants arriving in Europe go through. “A lot of people just see the boats arriving. They don’t see the journey they have had before that,” he says. “I have to let people know what happened to me and what is happening to people every day.”

Nothing is more mysterious than love. We often don’t know where it comes from, only that it springs up out of nowhere and washes over us in a way we can’t control. Understanding how to tell if you know someone from a past life could explain why you feel so drawn to a specific person. At some point, we’ve all met someone that impacts us on a far deeper level than we ever could have imagined. It will even shine a light on the relationship dynamics you share with them now.

If you believe in reincarnation, you know the soul continues beyond death. You know that this life is just one of countless lives you’ve already lived before. And with each life, your soul accumulates karma and learns new things along the way. One of the main ways we learn is by teaching each other, as relationships are the cornerstone of our experience here on Earth. Chances are, the people who teach you the most are the same people who have taught you in the past, as you’ve been together during many different incarnations. When you meet a lover, friend, family member or even enemy from a past life, there’s a subconscious part of you that will be able to recognize them.

Before we are born, we commune with our soul family and make plans to find each other during our next incarnation. And when you finally do meet, everything begins falling into place. By loving and challenging each other , we are able to accelerate our growth and sort through the karma leftover from our past lives. It is by provoking, influencing and impacting each other’s lives that we are able to teach each other the lessons we came here to learn.

Brian Weiss— a pioneer of past life regression hypnotherapy —once said: “Sometimes, soulmates may meet, stay together until a task or life lesson is completed, and then move on. This is not a tragedy, only a matter of learning.” If someone suddenly crashes into your world like a tsunami, there’s a strong chance you knew them in a past life. And it means you’re on the brink of something incredible.

journey life

Here are 11 signs that you knew someone in a past life, because it can bring clarity to a relationship that feels intense, confusing, beautiful, and at times, even heartbreaking. Chances are, you’re just helping each other along on your soul journey:

They Feel Instantly Familiar to You

STYLECASTER | Zodiac Signs Most Likely To Get Cheated On

Have you ever looked into someone’s eyes and felt an eerie sense of recognition, even though you’ve never met them before? If this strange sensation comes over you upon meeting someone, it’s a strong indicator that your souls are well acquainted with each other. After all, the soul is both timeless and infinite, and just because you haven’t met them in this life doesn’t mean you’ve never known them in your precious ones.

They Elicit a Strong Reaction From You

StyleCaster | Weekly Love Horoscope Zodiac Signs

We make soul contracts with each other before we’re born, vowing to teach each other specific lessons and help us on our life journey. That feeling of recognition is there for a reason, as it pulls you in. You were meant to meet this person and your intense curiosity about them is what will allow you to pick up where you left off. If you meet someone and your relationship begins with an intense level of passion, conflict, desire, anger, joy or distress, there’s a strong chance you share soul ties.

You Immediately Form a Deep Bond

StyleCaster | May 2023 Love Horoscope For Every Zodiac Sign

One thing that’s true for every karmic relationship— it starts off strong . If you find yourself all wrapped up in a whirlwind romance that’s passionate enough to make you jump into a longterm commitment, there’s a chance your souls are just way too excited about your reunion. If you’re suddenly involved in a major conflict with another person you just met, it’s also possible that you share a complicated spiritual history with their soul. Perhaps you were not on good terms in your previous life and you’re sorting through your karma together. Often, our children and family members are also people we knew in our past lives, which explains the deep bond we immediately form with them!

You Have an Intuitive & Telepathic Connection

StyleCaster | Weekly Horoscope For Every Zodiac Sign

When you meet someone you share a long spiritual history with, it’s as if there’s already a deeper understanding between you. It’s as if you already understand things about them that you shouldn’t. There’s no need to fill every moment of silence with words. You don’t feel pressured into keeping them entertained or putting on a front in their presence. You can literally communicate with each other with a simple look, knowing that whatever is on your mind will be immediately sensed by them.

You Can't Seem to Stay Away From Each Other

StyleCaster | Weekly Love Horoscope For Every Zodiac Sign

No matter how hard you try, leaving a person you share soul ties with will never be easy. This could manifest as an on-again off-again relationship in which a breakup just never seems to stick, as though a cosmic force beyond your control is constantly bringing you back together. It could unfold like a divorce that’s so long and drawn out, you’re beginning to feel like it will ever end. It could even manifest as a rivalry that consumes a large portion of your time and energy, as though you’re both addicted to hating each other or obsessing over each other. On the plus side, it can also manifest as a loving relationship that lasts until your very last breath.

Time Doesn't Exist When You're Together

STYLECASTER | Weekly Love Horoscope

Because the connection you share with someone from a past life can be so deep, it often feels like you’re the only two people in the world when you’re together. Time seems to stop when you’re in each other’s presence , as if the whole universe is fading away and you can’t focus on anything but each other. After all, encountering a person that you knew in a past life is a climactic moment, because your souls likely planned this meeting long ago. The reason you can’t focus on anything else is because they’re the main event!

Your Relationship Is Teaching You Difficult Lessons

STYLECASTER | Weekly Horoscope

One thing that every past life connection has in common is that it’s always an intense and often difficult experience. There’s always karma attached to the people you share soul ties with, which is why you were brought back together again in this life. Chances are, there is still unresolved drama from your past lives that is still being worked out between you. Karmic relationships can often feel confusing , overwhelming, all-encompassing and beyond heart-breaking. After all, you share a long history together, and as much as you might want to get away from them, the thought of losing them all over again might feel just as awful.

Your Birth Charts Say You Do

STYLECASTER | How To Read Your Birth Chart

The easiest way to find out if you knew someone in a past life is to look into your astrological birth charts and the way they affect each other. Because the South Node dictates who and where we’ve been in our past lives , it’s the first place to look to when trying to understand our karmic history. If you have planets in your chart that form a conjunction, opposition, square or trine with someone’s South Node—and vice versa—there’s no doubt you were together in a past life.

Another great way to gain a deeper understanding of how long you’ve really known someone is by asking your tarot cards. A great three-card spread would involve these questions:

  • Why are we meeting again in this life?

By analyzing the imagery and meaning behind the cards you pull for each question, your intuition will piece together the rest of the puzzle and allow you to understand and remember your history together. Chances are, the nature of your relationship in your past lives will in s

You can schedule a session with a professional hypnotherapist who specializes in this form of regression to help guide you through the process. Enter the meditation with the intention of understanding and identifying the people you’ve known in your past lives. Many times, people will see someone they knew in their previous lives and instantly recognize that it’s the *same* person they know in this life. You can also do a self-guided meditation to meet your soulmate or twin flame, such as this one created by YouTube user Self Guided Hypnosis .

You Just Know You Shared a Past Life Together

You don’t need anything to tell you whether you truly knew someone in a past life. Nothing will ever be able to give you as sure of an answer as your own intuition will. If you have a feeling you’ve reconnected with someone from a past life, that’s enough of a reason to believe it. Your heart knows exactly what is familiar to you and what is not. And if you know deep in your heart that you’ve met this person before, then you have every reason to trust in it.

50 Cent’s Kids: What to Know About His Relationship With His 2 Children

The 'In Da Club' rapper has two kids with two different women, one of whom was reportedly named in a lawsuit against Diddy. Find out all about 50 Cent's children, here.

50 Cent

50 Cent has dominated the hip-hop world since the release of his album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003. With his single “In Da Club” becoming the most listened-to song in radio history within a week at the time, per Billboard , the Queens, New York native, quickly became a household name. He then started his own music label, G-Unit Records, and swept the charts again with his third studio effort, 2005’s The Massacre .

Since then, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has gone on to release several more albums, starred in a film and even began his own production companies. He not only stars in the hit Starz drama Power , but also serves as co-creator and executive producer. He also has his hand in many business ventures, including SMS Audio and SK Energy.

In his personal life, 50 Cent has welcomed two sons with two different women. Although he is estranged to his eldest son Marquise Jackson and was in a bitter feud with him , the entertainer often gushes over his youngest, Sire Jackson . Now, 50 Cent is reportedly seeking sole custody of Sire from his ex Daphne Joy after she was named in a 2024 lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs , per Us Weekly .

Find out all about Fiddy’s relationship with his boys, below.

Marquise Jackson

50 Cent

Marquise, who was born on October 13, 1997, is a rapper and actor who has been estranged from his father for over a decade, due in part to the rapper’s tumultuous split with Marquise’s mother, Shaniqua Thompkins , in 2008. After the former couple went their separate ways, Shaniqua claimed 50 Cent promised her his $4 million Long Island Mansion. While she and Marquise were residing in it, the house burned to the ground, with Shaniqua alleging her ex had something to do with it. Although 50 Cent was cleared of any wrongdoing, the former couple continued to feud, which has resulted in a rift between Fiddy and Marquise .

“It completely went south when I was probably like 10 or 11,” Marquise told  Rap-Up in 2017. “He wasn’t really around enough. It kind of dwindled down as time went on and certain events happened.” He said he always thought of his father as Superman while he was growing up. “But then, as I got older, you start realizing things or you start seeing certain patterns and it takes an effect on your relationship with people,” Marquise added. “That’s what happened with me and my father. He’s still alive but I can’t tell you our last conversation or the last time we even had a dialogue.”

The feud has escalated since, with 50 Cent saying he wouldn’t mind if Marquise was “hit by a bus” in 2018. The insult came after Marquise shared a snap of himself hanging out with the son of Supreme McGriff , one of 50’s rivals, on Instagram. Fiddy commented, “if both these little n—-s got hit by a bus, I wouldn’t have a bad day.” Although the “Candy Shop” singer walked back the comment, tweeting he had “zero ill will towards anyone living,” the damage had been done. 50 Cent also said he spent $1,360,000 to give Marquise opportunities.

On October 19, 2022, Fif appeared on The Breakfast Club   radio show to talk about the relationship with the now 26-year-old. “I don’t think the relationship works,” Fifty told  Charlamagne tha God . After the lengthy interview where the rapper said that he doesn’t believe his son actually wants to sit down and talk, Marquise took to Instagram to call out his dad. “Now y’all all see I tried to reach out to talk to my pops as a MAN in front of the [earth emoji] & behind the scenes. I have no phone number for you & You’ve had me blocked on social media for years so I can’t DM you personally & everybody that is mutual is scared to touch the topic bc they’re scared of you,” Marquise captioned the throwback photo of him and Fif.

The post also came just over a week after 50 Cent called Marquise “ entitled ” and his son also responded to the statement via Instagram . “Since y’all think $6,700 is sooo much money someone tell my pops I will pay him $6,700 for just 24hr of his time so we can do everything I ever wanted to do with him as a kid Red Yellow Green whatever color he like,” Marquise captioned the October 10, 2022, photo.

Sire Jackson

50 Cent

Sire, on the other hand, appears to be the apple of 50 Cent’s eye. Born on September 1, 2012 to Fiddy and his girlfriend at the time, model Daphne Joy, Sire has already been living the high life. When he was just 2 years old, he landed a $700,000 contract with Kidz Safe headphones. “He’s got a [modeling] deal now with Kidz Safe,” 50 Cent announced during an interview with Power 105.1, per E! . “ They paid him a big payment, too. He’s super cute, you gotta pay for it.” The doting dad also revealed he set up a trust fund for Sire, saying he wanted his son to enjoy his riches when he was more mature.

And speaking of riches, in 2019 Fiddy treated Sire to an insane shopping spree for Christmas. The actor spent $100,000 to rent out an entire Toys R Us store for the little tyke to shop ’til he dropped, according to E! . The exciting day was revealed on Daphne’s Instagram, where she posted several pics of the holiday surprise, captioning it, “When I asked my Dad for the ‘WHOLE Toys R Us Store’ for Christmas I didn’t think he would actually do it, but he did.” Another post read, “Sire’s in utter shock right now and disbelief.”

50 Cent also gushed about Sire during the 2021 Christmas holiday. Posting adorable pics of Sire wearing a tiger hat and hoodie by a Christmas tree, he wrote, “look at my boy, SIRE on some let’s play video games for money DadNo . you ain’t got no money so i can’t win. LOL” Looks like Sire is in for many more special holidays in the years ahead.

The CEO of his Own Life: Nolasque's Journey to the IRC HQ

Most IRC staff and clients in Missoula are familiar with Nolasque Balitebya’s dedicated work ethic, positive attitude, and infectious laugh. In February, Nolasque began winding down his Caseworker duties with the IRC in Missoula tying up loose ends, crossing his t’s and dotting his i’s in his casefiles. Where is he off to next? IRC Headquarters! As a Roving Direct Services Program Manager for IRC’s Reception and Placement (R&P) programs, he will now be deployed to support R&P casework staff in Florida, Georgia, California, Texas, and Arizona. He will remain based in Missoula and work remotely from here, while traveling up to 70% of the time to support offices.

Perhaps a little known fact is that Nolasque was the IRC in Missoula staff member with the longest uninterrupted tenure. Shortly after arriving in 2019, his fluency in English enabled him to support IRC staff with resettlement services, such as airport pickups, on a volunteer basis at first. He quickly applied and was hired as an Interpreter a few months later. The staff was much smaller then, and he enthusiastically took every opportunity to help deliver core casework services to newly arriving refugee families in Missoula, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. In spring 2021, he became a full-time Caseworker and he ends his time with the Missoula office as a Senior Caseworker.

Before he took up this new role, we had a chance to speak with Nolasque to learn more about his journey to this exciting new chapter in his professional career.

Nolasque and his family were meant to travel to the US 2017 but were delayed by new policies from the presidential administration at the time. They were to travel from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, where he and his wife and children had been living as urban refugees. Per Uganda’s policies, when his family fled from the Democratic Republic of Congo into Uganda, they were given the choice between staying in a refugee camp or moving to an urban area where humanitarian support would not be available. Equipped with two masters degrees in French and African Linguistics, a degree in Philosophy, and his fluency in English, he and his family decided to go to Kampala. He opened a learning center to teach French and Swahili punctuated intermittently by providing translation and interpretation services. His students were mainly foreign professionals and tourists in the area, and he was able to make ends meet this way. Their travel to the US was finally rescheduled almost two years later.

"I remember it well. We arrived on February 28th in the US, the land of opportunity. We spent the night in a fancy hotel in Houston, Texas. It was March 1st, 2019 around 4 pm on a Friday when we landed in Missoula."

IRC staff were there to greet them at the airport and took them to an apartment that IRC had secured a lease for and furnished prior to their arrival after a long and tiring journey. Nolasque recalls IRC staff giving him and his family a housing safety orientation, a standard part of IRC’s core service procedures to ensure newly arriving families can safely use all the features of a home, like heating and cooling systems, light switches, door and window locks, microwaves, and refrigerators. After that, his family was left to catch up on some much needed sleep.

One week later, the IRC took Nolasque to the Lifelong Learning Center to be enrolled in ESL classes, another standard core service of the resettlement process. At this time, no one had fully realized that he was fluent in English! He recalls the ESL instructor commenting that he spoke English very well, and he agreed! He took an exam to measure his reading and writing skills and got a perfect score.   He recalls, with humor, being told that he didn’t have to come back to class.

Even with fluency in English and advanced degrees, refugees face an uphill battle finding employment opportunities that are in line with their professional backgrounds and skill sets, as most degrees and credentials are not recognized in the US. With the employment placement support of JobService through Missoula’s TANF Program, Nolasque got his first full-time job was as a warehouse picker for a distribution company; a job he was grateful for and did to the best of his ability. In June 2019, he was hired at the IRC as a Swahili interpreter and thus began his IRC career.

His family worked together and relied on his English language skills as they acclimated to doing things independently, such as grocery shopping, learning the bus system, and navigating life in a new place. When it came time for financial assistance through the IRC and public benefits to end, his family had a meeting to plan out how they’d were going to meet their financial obligations. They decided rent must be prioritized, then food. They all agreed to forget about luxury and extras while they worked to earn money and budget it carefully together.

From when they fled the Democratic Republic of Congo to now, Nolasque’s persevering optimism and refusal to let circumstances dictate his outlook on life have been central to who he is and how he and his family have approached each challenge.

"As a refugee, you've fled your country, you've spent years of your life in another country and you don't know what the future holds. You must claim back your life.

You must transfer that fear into fuel and become the CEO of your own life.

Nobody can make you happy, you must make yourself happy. Be happy doing whatever you have in your hand."

He is definitely looking forward to his new role with IRC HQ.

"What is special about the IRC as an organization is that it is the oldest humanitarian organization. I used to see this [IRC] logo in Uganda on cars driving around. I was astonished to see the IRC symbol in Missoula when I got here. Working for IRC is paying it forward. I like the mandate and passion to help people as they rebuild people’s lives and help them be who they are. The IRC began my roots in America, and that is why I am excited to serve the IRC to the best of my abilities."

We wish Nolasque well on this next step in his career and thank him for his many years of service supporting newly arrived refugees in Missoula.

Golfers’ risk from pesticides used on turfgrass is likely low, studies find

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Golfer Exposure to Traditional Pesticides Following Application to Turfgrass” ACS Agricultural Science & Technology

For many, spring heralds fresh air and exercise on the golf course. But do players risk exposure to unsafe levels of pesticides used to beautify and maintain a golf course’s green grass? To find out, researchers asked volunteers to play 18 holes on a simulated course sprayed with common pesticides. They report the results in ACS Agricultural Science & Technology , saying there is likely limited cause for concern over toxic exposure from pesticide-treated turf.

Eight people in white cotton suits posing for a photo on a golf course green.

There are plenty of studies on pesticide exposure among people who tend and harvest crops grown in treated environments. But John M. Clark and colleagues couldn’t find much comparable information about individuals who play sports, including soccer and golf, in the great outdoors. So, his team designed a study to investigate golfers’ potential risks from four pesticides, which have low volatilities and relatively low toxicities for humans, and are commonly used on golf course turfgrass: cyfluthrin (insecticide), chlorothalonil (fungicide), MCPP-p (herbicide) and 2,4-D (herbicide).

For the study, the researchers created what they deemed a “worst-case-scenario” 18-hole course: All areas of a simulated golf course were treated with the manufacturers’ suggested maximum amount of all four pesticides. Then they recruited eight volunteer golfers to play a full round on the treated turf one hour after pesticide application and to remain on the course for four hours. To measure pesticide exposure, four of the volunteers wore cotton full-body suits with veils, socks and gloves that would pick up contact residues and personal air samplers that would capture airborne residues. The other four volunteers wore cut-off cotton suits over their own golfing clothes and submitted urine samples after the round.

After the volunteers finished golfing, Clark’s team measured pesticide residues on the dosimetry suits and air samplers and found that the hand and lower leg segments picked up the most residue while airborne residues contributed little to exposure. The researchers also measured the volunteers’ exposure risk from the levels of pesticides found on the suits and in the urine samples by calculating the hazard quotient (HQ). The team found that the HQ values from the golfers’ exposure indicated little risk to the four pesticides used in this study.

Finally, Clark and colleagues compared the insecticide cyfluthrin results to their 2008 Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry study with older, neurotoxic insecticides at the same simulated golf course site — and using the same protocols. Both studies’ HQ values were well below 1.0, the level that indicates potentially unsafe exposure. However, in the prior work, the volunteers’ urinalysis HQ values of 0.0318 and 0.054 for chlorpyrifos and carbaryl, respectively, were an order of magnitude greater than the volunteers’ urinalysis HQ of 0.0043 from this 2024 study with the insecticide cyfluthrin. The researchers say this comparison shows the potential benefit of using modern, lower volatility and less toxic pesticides, which could further reduce golfers’ risk of adverse effects from exposure.
