The ability to see the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, without crowds, was very special. There is so much to see that i wish we had more time on the tour. The only criticism is that the guide was very knowledgable, but since we were walking in a group of 20 people, it was impossible to hear him speaking for most of the trip. Would have been much better to have the hearing devices to support his conversation.

Excellent experience; opening the Sistine Chapel was magical. Stay close to the guide and you will catch good information.

This tour is amazing! To be the ONLY GROUP in the Vatican museum at this time... is just priceless. You can see those beautiful and historical items without competing with thousands of other folks for vantage points. Photos are easy - as you're not being 'rushed thru' from room to room due to all the other tourists. Seeing the amazing rooms 'come to light' as the doors are unlocked (one by one) and lights turn on... is hard to put into words. Worth every penny - best tour in Rome!

We will start our private 2-hour journey through the corridors of the magnificent museums –  just you, your guide & a private Vatican custodian to accompany you on the journey .

The Vatican Museums were not originally designed as a museum space; instead, the museums are actually part of the private palaces of the Popes hence you will be able to feel the majesty of the space as it was designed to be experienced.  Privately . Finally, we will descend the private staircase and  visit Michelangelo’s masterpiece : the Sistine Chapel.

Named after Pope Sixtus IV, the Sistine Chapel has always been a private chapel of the Popes as well as the space for the conclave (where Popes are elected by the Cardinals). Prior to Michelangelo’s ceiling, many Renaissance artists had a hand in the frescoes along the walls including  Botticelli ,  Perugino ,  Rosselli  &  Ghirlandaio . 

With your expert guide, you will receive a detailed explanation of the magnificent frescoes (something that is never allowed during normal opening times). From the greatest frescoes including the  Creation of Man to the Last Judgement , you will be able to reflect on Michelangelo’s work in the silence & reverence in which it was designed to be experienced.

Speaking is not allowed in the chapel since it's a sacred space, so your guide will explain what you'll see before entering and give you a handy guide for reference.

Michelangelo painted more than 600 figures in all, and the sheer magnitude of his endeavor is mind-blowing. After your time in the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, you'll walk through a passageway that allows you to bypass the ticket lines and enter St. Peter's Basilica more quickly. Although it is rare, sometimes part of the Vatican closes with little notice. If an area normally covered on a tour is closed, your guide will be sure to make up the time in other areas.

Yes! The public has access at 9:00 am, while other early-access tours enter at 8:30 am. This tour is admitted at 8:00 am, which is a full hour before the crowds.

Does this tour always include St. Peter's Basilica?

St. Peter's is always included on this private Vatican Museums tour, except on Wednesdays when it is closed in the morning for the Papal Audience.

Is there a dress code to enter the religious sites on this tour?

We ask both men and women to cover knees and shoulders, otherwise the Vatican might refuse entry to religious sites and you’ll miss out on a portion of your tour. The iconic narration of the vault dedicaded to the Holy Creation and the Bible is a pendant of the huge wall scene (60 feet tall) just behind the altar: the “Last Judgment” with its 391 figures. The side walls welcomed Michelangelo’s creation with pre-existing stories of the Life of Jesus and Moses by Botticelli and the Renaissance masters. Duration: 25 minutes Borgo Pio

Tour starts at 9:00 AM You will meet your tour guide at our office, which is located in the oldest neighbourhoods of the Vatican, Borgo Pio. It is an area filled with charming local shops and vendors. Your guide will begin by sharing some background on the Sistine Chapel.

Duration: 45 minutes Vatican Museums

After meeting your guide, you make your way to the Vatican Museum through a special group entrance route and bypassing the enormous lines that are guaranteed to be present all year round. Upon entering, we’ll spend some time being guided through the renaissance artworks collected here. This is a 2.5 to 3 hour journey through one of the most amazing museums of the world. Learn about Greek and Roman sculptures, tapestries, and interesting anecdotes about the artists and their times.

Duration: 15 minutes Stanze di Raffaello (Raphael's Rooms)

This part of the museum, containing four stanze (Italian for rooms) features frescos by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. The famous “School of Athens” is displayed here. Portraits of history’s greatest thinkers, such as Aristotle, Plato, and Raphael himself, can also be gleamed.

Duration: 35 minutes The Sistine Chapel (Cappella Sistina)

Our visit culminates in one of the most famous places in the world. The stairs and passages of the Vatican will lead you to the Capella Sistine, a monumental chapel which also serves as the Papal conclave where new popes are elected. Within these beautiful walls, you will witness the work of the the celebrated artist, Michaelangelo. The chapel also houses world-renowned artworks such as the Delivery of the Keys, Creation of Adam, and the Last Judgement. Be prepared to be dazzled as you look up to admire the frescoed ceilings that have stood the test of time.

Note: The Sistine Chapel requires all visitors to follow a dress code. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements. Visitors are also required to observe silence (explanation will be given prior to entry). Cameras will be restricted in the chapel.

Duration: 30 minutes Church of St. Peter (Basilica di San Pietro)

Upon completion of the museum areas, you will discover how the smallest state in the world functions in its own right. Finally, a special door connecting the museums to the Basilica will bring you inside the church of S.Peters! Unlike other tourists who line up for normal entrance, you will be able to get access without the fuss of passing through security once again.

Duration: 15 minutes St. Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro) & Goodbyes!
