2021 Tata Safari Adventure Edition (Persona) – What’s different?

The new Tata Safari Adventure Edition is available with exclusive interior and exterior shades, although the powertrain remains unchanged

Tata Motors has finally launched the 2021 Safari in India, at a starting price of Rs. 14.69 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). The manufacturer has also introduced an ‘Adventure Persona’ version of the new Safari, available only in the top-spec XZ+ and XZA+ trims, which sports a few exterior and interior changes over the regular Safari.

The Tata Safari Adventure Edition is available in a unique “Tropical Mist” exterior paint colour. The front grille gets a piano black finish, and the outer door handles and roof rails are finished in granite black colour. There’s a blacked-out ‘SAFARI’ badge on the nose, and one on the tailgate as well. Even the faux bash plates have been painted black.

The machine-cut 18-inch alloy wheels have been painted charcoal grey. The interior theme is different as well – Earthy Brown and White – with dark chrome and piano black inserts on the dashboard, switchgear, instrument cluster, and inner door handles. It also gets a piano black interior pack, for the steering wheel, grab handles, floor console frame, and IP mid pad finisher.

There are no mechanical changes on the SUV though; it uses the same FCA-sourced 2.0-litre, turbocharged, inline-4 diesel engine as the regular Safari (and the Harrier). This motor is good for a peak power of 170 PS and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. There are two transmission options available – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President of Passenger Vehicles Business Division, Tata Motors , said, “ Safari had introduced India to the SUV lifestyle and in its contemporary avatar, the new Safari is in-sync with the multifaceted lifestyles of today’s SUV customer. With its plush interiors, state-of-the-art connectivity and premium features, the Safari not just blends in but ups the lifestyle quotient several notches higher. With the introduction of the ‘Adventure’ persona, customers have more choice to select the Safari that best complements their individual personality to ‘Reclaim Your Life’. ”

The 2021 Tata Safari Adventure Edition is priced at Rs. 20.20 lakh for the XZ+ trim, and at Rs. 21.45 lakh for the XZA+ trim (both prices, ex-showroom). As it is based on the XZ+ and XZA+ trims, the Safari Adventure Edition is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations.

2021 Tata Safari: Prices and variants explained

Tata Motors has launched the Tata Safari India. The three-row SUV is the new flagship of the Tata Motors range and sits above the Harrier to which it is closely related. The Safari competes with the likes of the MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500 in their diesel iterations

The Safari is 63mm longer than the Harrier, incorporating a stepped roof and a reworked rear section to accommodate the third row of seats. he width(1894mm) and wheelbase(2741mm) remain unchanged from the Harrier, although the new SUV is a bit taller at 1,786mm (80m more). The same 2.0-litre FCA-sourced Multijet diesel engine from the Harrier, which Tata calls Kryotec, is fitted to the Safari with 172PS and 350Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Tata Safari's Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (Omega arc) is derived from Jaguar Land Rover's entry-level D8 SUV platform, variations of which supported cars like the pre-facelift Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar E-Pace and the last-gen Range Rover Evoque. The Tata platform is based on a steel structure unlike JLR's aluminium one and also incorporates more affordable suspension tech like a rear torsion beam instead of a multi-link set-up.

Here's what you get with each variant of the 2021 Tata Safari with their prices. The Safari comes in 9 variants with the lower mid-XMA and XZA being available with the automatic. The top-spec XZ+ and XZA+ can also be had with the Adventure Persona design pack. These are also the only variants to offer a second-row captain seat option, along with the bench seats available on other variants.

Tata Safari Adventure Persona Edition Owner's Review - VIDEO

The all-new Tata Safari is off to a positive start in the Indian auto market after being showcased as the Gravitas concept for a couple of years. The new Safari is based on Tata’s OMEGARC platform that also underpins the smaller Harrier. Both SUVs look very similar with the most distinct difference being the Safari is quite a bit longer than the Harrier to fit the third row of seats. There are a few differences between the two with the Safari getting a new chrome grille and headlight surrounds, roof rails, and redesigned taillights. Today we came across this owner review of the flagship Safari Adventure Persona Edition.

The video has been uploaded by The Safari Traveller on YouTube. The owner of this Safari Adventure Persona Edition is going for a short trip along with his parents, and the video is a short review of the SUV. The parents are sitting in the middle row, which gets captain seats in the Adventure Persona variant. They love the spacious legroom and headroom of the middle row, with the captain seats’ separate armrest and reclining function making it a very comfortable experience for them. The owner is impressed with the stable handling and great ride quality of the new Safari. It is pretty frugal as well, returning 12 kmpl in city conditions, rising to 16 kmpl on the highway. The engine is pretty refined as well, with the diesel clatter on par with its segment rivals.  The owner did find the AC to be overwhelming as the cabin wasn’t cooling as much as desired. This is most probably due to the amount of sunlight coming into the cabin due to the panoramic sunroof, which the owner thinks is a worthy premium to pay for.

Prices for the Tata Safari start from Rs 14.69 lakh for the base XE trim level and goes up to Rs 21.45 lakh for the Adventure Persona Edition. Do note that all prices are ex-showroom. It is powered by the FCA-sourced 2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 170 PS/350 Nm of peak power and torque figures. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Explaining the exterior changes first then the Adventure Persona Edition gets the all-new Tropical Mist shade which is not available in the standard versions of the Safari. Coming to the interiors then you do get an earthy brown interior from the oyster-white as seen on the other variants. Furthermore, there are dark inserts present on the instrument cluster, door handles on the inside, air vents, knobs and switches.

If you are to buy the Safari Adventure Persona then it is exclusive to the top-spec XZ+ variant only. This variant also comes with an automatic gearbox which is known as XZA+. Both 6 and 7-seat options are available here.

Powering this edition is a 2.0-litre, turbocharged BS6 compliant diesel motor which is sourced from FCA. This unit generates 170 PS of power with a peak torque of 350 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed manual as standard. One also gets a 6-speed auto as an option.

Tata Safari Adventure Persona Is Worth Every Bit Its Premium - Here's Why

Tata Motors   launched the all-new Safari in India yesterday, with prices starting from INR 14.69 lakh and going up to INR 21.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The biggest surprise at the launch yesterday was certainly the introduction of the new Safari Adventure Persona - the top-of-the-line variant that comes with unique exterior and interior alterations which really make it stand out. In fact, we would say that this would be our pick of the lot from the Safari range. So here's a closer look at what the Tata Safari Adventure Persona so special.

Tata Safari Adventure Persona - Exterior

If you are fed up with the increasing amount of chrome in our cars. the Safari Adventure Persona is just the right vehicle. This trim deletes all chrome for gloss black or granite black finishes. The Safari Adventure Persona comes in an exclusive and sole 'Tropical Mist' blue paint shade. The colour contrasts beautifully with the blacked-out elements on the new Safari.

Further, the grille, door handles, headlamp surround, window line, badging, and roof rails are all finished in glossy black. These elements come finished in chrome in the standard Safari. There's also a bold 'Safari' lettering embossed on the bonnet. The silver skid plates on the front and rear bumpers have also been blacked out. The 18-inch alloy wheels are similar in design to the standard Safari but are finished in gunmetal grey.

Tata Safari Adventure Persona - Interior

Stepping inside the cabin, the interiors of the Safari Adventure Persona also has their own unique identity. If the black and white interior colour scheme of the regular Safari stand for premiumness and luxury, the black and brown interior colour scheme on the Adventure Persona is meant to highlight the Adventure theme. The upholstery and the door pads are thus finished in a light brown shade. It will also be easier to maintain than the white seats on the standard Safari.

The dashboard, meanwhile, has been finished with an all-black look with new dark chrome and piano black trims and furnishing. The centre console, however, gets a light brown insert around the gear lever. The Safari Adventure Persona will be available in both 6- and 7-seater configuration. As its based on the top-spec trims, the Safari Adventure Persona c0mes loaded with all the bells and whistles that's offered with the regular Safari.

Tata Safari Adventure Persona - Engine Options

There are no mechanical changes on the Safari Adventure Persona over the regular Safari. It thus comes powered by the Harrier's Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The Adventure Persona is available with both the 6-speed manual and the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. It also gets three ESP-based off-road modes - normal, rough, and wet - as well as three drive modes - eco, city and sport.

Just like the Tata Harrier gets Dark and Camo Editions based on the top-spec trims, the Tata Safari Adventure Persona is based on the top-spec XZ+/XZA+ variants. Priced at INR 20.20 lakh for the manual variant and INR 21.45 lakh for the automatic, it is INR 21,000 more expensive over the standard variant. However, given the killer looks and perhaps more practically appointed interiors, this would reallny be our pick of the lot. We still haven't got over it's looks yet.

Tata Motors has further expanded the colour options on the Safari Adventure Persona special edition. The Adventure Persona that was only offered in the Tropical Mist exterior colour is now available in Orcus White shade. Along with the new palette, the Adventure Persona also benefits from a handful of new features. 

The Safari Adventure Persona is based on the top-spec XZ+ and XZA+ trims. It is now equipped with new features such as a wireless charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless connectivity, and cooled first and second-row seats (only six-seater) version. With the addition of new features, the manual version of the Adventure is now expensive by Rs 14,000 while the automatic demands a premium of Rs 24,000. 

Recently, Tata Motors also launched the Dark edition of the Safari with a starting price of Rs 19.06 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets blacked-out exterior highlights with a matching interior theme, details of which can be known here.

The Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 168bhp and 350Nm torque. This motor is paired with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. A Close Look : Tata Safari Adventure Persona

Tata Motors is trying out a new strategy here and has introduced a special edition of the Tata Safari named 'Adventure Persona' to give as much boost at the launch itself.

Car manufacturers introducing special editions of their popular cars isn't breaking news. In most cases, special editions are launched to give a boost to sales when the curve starts to flatten. Tata Motors is trying out a new strategy here and has introduced a special edition of the Tata Safari named 'Adventure Persona' to give as much boost at the launch itself.

This special edition Safari is available only in the 'Tropical Mist' paint that you see here which is somewhat a dusty blue shade. It's available in the top-end XZ+ variant in manual as well as automatic avatars at a premium of Rs 20,000 over the regular top-end XZ+ variant.

Team-BHP was invited for a quick walk around shoot of the Tata Safari Adventure Persona, so here are some quick observations about what's different in this special edition from the regular Safari.

Right off the bat, so much less chrome! This was a concern that we had mentioned in the official review, and without the excess chrome, the face of the Safari looks much better. The grille is now finished in piano black which makes the Tata logo stand out quite nicely. Headlamp and fog lamp clusters which got silver and chrome treatment in the regular Safari are also finished in black. Don't miss the black skid plate at the bottom which is brushed silver in the regular Safari:

The Adventure Persona edition also gets this black 'Safari' lettering on the bonnet which is unique to this edition:

In profile view, the Safari is chrome-free and looks quite nice:

For starters, you have black 18-inch alloy wheels. The design is the same as the regular Safari, but I think these look way better:

You also get this black strip across the door handles which is a nice touch:

No more blingy chrome roof rails. These are finished in black and aren't functional (Only variants without a sunroof get functional roof rails):

Not much is different at the back, except for...

...the 'Safari' name that is now finished in black and...

... the black skid plate:

Jump on the inside and instead of the dual-tone white and black theme, you have an all-black dashboard. Not just that, the brushed silver inserts across the dashboard have been replaced by piano black including the ones on the steering wheel:

Here's a closer look at the piano black insert below the ashwood trim. Notice the air vents though; this is where Tata has added chrome in the place of brushed silver inserts on the regular Safari and the Harrier. Have to say though, it does go well with the overall ambience of the cabin:

In an attempt to make it more adventure-oriented, the seats are no longer oyster white but are finished in beige (in Tata terms, 'Signature Earthy Brown Benecke Kaliko' said to have been inspired by the golden hues of desert sand). Essentially, they'll still soil but won't show as prominently as the oyster-white seats:

All black door pad makes so much more sense than the one on the regular Safari . Moreover, the tan/beige leather on the armrest is a nice contrast to the black:
