Yes. Just make sure it fits you comfortably. Get a kit for repairing flats and a small pump (and learn how to use them). Have fun!  

it's a fine bike for city/bike path/rail trail/gravel road riding. it will be able to "handle" smooth trails, but it's definitely no mountain bike. I have a friend who has one and has a hard time handling it anytime the going gets rough. but then again, she doesn't "get" the gears in the slightest so I think it's more her than the bike.

meh, not really. it's a road bike, more or less. its off-road handling will not be improved by putting more suspension on it. in fact, that'll probably wreck its' handling characteristics. it might fit wider tires, but I really have no idea what sort of clearance hybrids have. a rigid steel or carbon 29er fork might actually be an improvement over the stock suspension, but the frame is still not designed with off-road riding in mind and so it's probably not as durable as a mtb frame. if you want a bike that can go both ways, consider a rigid steel 29er. They use the same size wheels as road bikes/hybrids (29"=700c) and so a tire swap would go a long way towards letting you ride different terrain. unless you find used, though, it'll up the price a good bit. the geometry and durability will be better for riding off road and could support a decent suspension fork if you wanted to put one on. You could do similar with a 26" mtb (preferably rigid, if most riding is on the road), but slick tire selection in that wheel size is not as good. gearing will be lower, also. If you go this route, you might try some 700c wheels with road tires at some point, which will give you slightly taller gearing with the larger diameter wheel. check out the commuter forum. LOTS of folks riding difficult-to-categorize bikes that can handle varying mixes of on- and off-road terrain. Everything from straight road bikes to full-suspension mountain bikes with slick tires (and some without). lots of drop bar mountain bikes, cyclocross, "monster cross", flat bar road bikes, whatever. my own commuter bike is kind of a "burly" road bike that can take 42mm tires and can handle a little bit of trail riding. it's still a road bike and the riding position is too far forward to do a lot of trails. but it's fun to get it dirty sometimes.  

pavement, gravel, LIGHT dirt trails- fine. anything more than that, no. it's a good cruising, city, commute, fitness bike, but not a mountain bike by any means. what size is the frame? how tall are you?  

I decided to pass on the Trek 7200....After reading some of the replies here, I think I'd better spend some more time looking at and trying other bikes before I buy anything...All my riding has been done on older 10 speed road bikes...I've got a lot to learn...Thanks to all that took the time to offer their advice...

Sounds like a lot of people have good experiences with this bike. Also, it was cheap.

Dangerous to ride.

Unreliable and unsafe. Handle bars keep coming loose, chain frequently falls off if I back-pedal. Very frustrating.

Smooth shifting, solid frame, nice components, great suspension.

Squeeky rear brake, slick pedals, too tall for me(my fault)

Just getting into riding. Picked the 7200 because of price and researching reviews. Had been tooling around on wife's new Specialized Globe, but this thing blows it away. Super smooth on the potholes and cracks. Fast as an old gheezer wants on the pavement. Great bike for recreational riding!

Hello... Just bought this 2007 Trek 7200 a few days ago. I also had a Giant M/B and an Iron Horse Warrior Comp. The Trek is the most comfortable bike I have ridden in 20 years. I love it, and will ride it every day until either it wears out, or I do. I bought it used for $ 200.00, in Like New condition.......

tough, can take offroad, steers very well, great value.

great bike for the price. heavy but it's a TANK. can get about 11-12 mph average, so it's slower than a roadbike, but can handle offroad some and won't react like a roadbike. i take it offtrail some and haven't had problems. get it tuned by someone and it's great, otherwise the gears can be frustrating.

Sometimes miss up shifts between 2nd and 3rd on the peddle sproket, down shifting is OK. Breaks does require adjusting.

Great bike...I ride between 200 & 400 miles per month. I'm 70 years old and had a heart attack about 14 months ago. I now bicycle to improve my health. This is an ideal bike for the biking that I do. I use a Garman CS60 GPS for tracking data. My overall riding speed average is about 12 mph, to speed down hill is about 28 mph. Bike is capable of doing everything I need.. Previous bike was a Schwinn, the Schwinn was a good bike but I'll take the Trek 7200 over it.

I just purchased a Trek 7200 and ride every day for excercise. I am impressed with the ride and quality of this bike. I haven't road for a number of years and my last bike was a Schwinn World Sport. The improvement between the two bikes is remarkable. I am 62 years old, 5'7" and 175 pounds. The bike meets all my needs and more.

Just purchased a 2009 Trek 7200 hybrid. Previously owned a Raleigh hybrid for approximately ten years. Raleigh has completely changed their line and their hybrid series is no longer competitive. The 7200 is a pleasure to ride - gear shifting is smooth and the front shock are a pleasure on pavement and sidewalks. I ride every other day for exercise, a minimum of 30 minutes, and will eventually do a century with the 7200, as I did with the Raleigh in the summer. This was a good purchase and I look forward to many years of riding the Trek 7200.

Durable frame with good components. Comfortable ride. Easy to modify and use for many purposes.

Normal tinkering with brakes and gearing required to keep the bike tuned up. Not a speed demon's ride. Rims and hubs are mid-range quality and last around 2 years with heavy riding.

Good bike for larger riders. Well built frame and forgiving suspension. A bit heavy but very reliable. I use this bike year round and have used it for century rides including the 2008 STP. We do grocery shopping with a trailer. For daily urban riding this is an excellent inexpensive ride.

I have the 2009 Trek 7200 and all in all am very impressed. A very nice and comfortable ride for what ever you feel you can put in. If you wanna go slow and enjoy the scenery its an absolute angel! same way if you want bomb it as hard as you can, she will take all you can give. The only reason of the higher price is due to specific extra's that I chose to make the ride more enjoyable or efficient!
