What do customers say about us, testimonials.

After much searching and reflection on a motorcycle tour in Europe I selected Moto Tours Europe, and they turned out to be top notch. I selected the Alpine Grand Explorer motorcycle tour, and I am... ...extremely happy that I did. All my expectations were exceeded from the route to the tour guide. My tour guide was Igor, and he was fantastic. Always checking on us and putting extra effort in to ensure our adventure was excellent. The routes selected were unbelievable! The hotels were more than you would expect for a tour company. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff were helpful and nice to deal with. The food was outstanding, including several four-course and five-course meals. I could not have been happier with Moto Tours Europe and hope to schedule a different tour next year. You cannot go wrong riding with Moto Tours Europe.

Having recently completed a 10 day tour of Croatia, I can thoroughly recommend Moto Tours Europe for a great experience. The basics were well covered: bikes in great condition; well paced tour itinerary;... ...logistics in hand; and fantastic accommodation along the way. The route and scenery was varied and spectacular, far exceeding already high expectations. What stood out however with Moto Tours Europe was the high care factor. Good local intel and support makes such a difference when touring on limited time. Our tour guide Robert, who clearly loves his country and riding in the region, was simply brilliant. He could read and respond to our groups capabilities, was flexible to suggestions and firm when he needed to be. Meals and drinks (included) was such a pleasant experience given the great places we ate at that you would struggle to find on your own. Our touring companions (now friends) from the US and New Zealand were on a similar wavelength. We all had a ball. Small group touring with Moto Tours Europe is the way to go.

Just completed 10 day Adriatic coastal tour in Croatia.well all I can say is tour far exceeded my expectations.first contact with Mike was easy, very good company to deal with.Arrival in Zagreb with... ...meeting fellow tour participants and Robert was really nice.I travelled with James from America,Jeremy and his wife Rochelle and of course our fabulous and passionate guide the one and only Robert.Every day we stayed in top class hotels,3 meals a day in fabulous places and destinations that are unreal.Roads are unreal in Croatia and if you like some twisty roads this is the tour.I selected a BMW F750GS and what a great bike for the trip.comfortable and could handle these roads really well.I am so impressed I intend to do another tour next year.everything you pay up front so apart from lunch and dinner on rest days you do not open your wallet, even petrol, ferry tickets are taken care of.Robert goes out of his way to ensure everyone is happy and enjoying themselves. Thanks Robert,James,Jeremy and Rochelle, bloody awesome ride around Croatia

After contacting Mototours Europe, I was put on touch with a former client who was happy to talk to me about his very positive experience on a previous Alps tour. His good feedback and the range of tours... ...offered was enough for me to sign up for the Balkans tour in May. What a memorable trip it was led by Bob. His combined knowledge of local history, food, languages & religion while leading a group of riders through some spectacularly scenic landscapes, was very much appreciated. The accommodation was fantastic & diverse as were the roads we travelled. Part way through the tour, due to a landslide and poor weather forecast, the itinerary was adapted to suit. This makes you appreciate how much work goes on behind the scenes to make a tour group run seamlessly. A huge thanks to you Bob. Hvala Puno!

16 day Balkans tour April to May 2024 - Just arrived home sitting in the office reflecting on the tour. WOW it exceeded all my expectations in all regards to the roads we travelled - the amazing scenery -... ...- also the great food and drink with the help of bob also the accomodation we stayed in some great hotels in good locations. What can l say about BOB. ( ti si dobar covek ) as l said on the odd occasion . We as a group enjoyed our meals and the odd drink together. Bob you were fantastic with all your knowledge and facts about the regions we were travelling throwAll l can say personally l really enjoyed the whole trip from our first meal in Zagreb (sadly no Sarma that night) my BMW bike was very good to ride …. Bob thank you also Mike job well done! Peter Spasojevic …. Albury Australia

I have just finished the 16 day Balkans tour April to May 2024. A friend and I hired the BMW 750,s. They were low Kms well serviced, lightweight and perfect for the trip.I can\'t find the right words to... ...describe the trip, it just blew me away. This is run by motorcycle enthusiasts who have grown up in Croatia. Bob our tour guide was awesome. He took us on beautiful back roads with breathtaking scenery. Pulled into cafes you could not find yourself during the day.4 star accommodation then a meal at a local restaurant. The restaurant\'s he chose showcased the regional foods.Bob usually picked a platter with local wine and sweets. This was mouthwatering. This was all inclusive. You only paid extra if you wanted more drinks. This is not your usual corporate run trip with a bored tour guide. You can tell the people who run this trip love there country and want to share the best bits.I was very concerned about riding in countries with different road regulations and the right lane. Bob said just follow and do as I do. There was no concern at all.Do not hesitate if you are thinking of doing this tour, you will be more than happy. Thanks again to Bob and Miljenko for the unforgettable memories. Regards Chris Parker Australia

Just completed the Balkans, Adriatic tour on May 12, 2024 with Robert as our guide. I have done several motorcycle tours (some guided some self guided) and I must say this was one of the best ever. The... ...roads Robert chose were great riding from the beautiful curvy mountain roads to the awesome coastal highways. He stayed on the less traveled roads through small villages and towns and historical sites. The accommodations and food greatly exceeded my expectations and I can\'t say enough about the countries we visited. All I can say is wow!! Robert was a great guide, full of historical information, funny and will point you in the right direction when making your lunch and dinner selections. I would put this tour at the top of your bucket list, don\'t miss it!!

Just ended the Balkans, Adriatic and Albania Explorer - Balkans motorcycle tour on 10-16, and I must say incredible, our tour guide Robert was great, his knowledge of the local history and the roads was... ...perfect, the pace was comfortable and the BMW 750 was a great choice for the roads and two up riding, all coordination and communications where prompt and done professionally. I can say that my wife and I have toured Europe three times on solo self guided tours, Germany, Austria, France northern Italy Portugal and Spain and a few other countries, but the Balkans are hard to beat, amazing scenery and twisty roads were never ending, returning home and thinking of our tour is almost sensory overload. The lodging and restaurants that Robert chose was amazing and meeting his friends was cool, again thank you very much for the life long memories.

The Best of the Alps Tour we did in June 2023 with Moto Tours Europe was simply stunning and the organisation was world class. We came from Australia where this company is relatively unknown and really... ...just stumbled across it on Facebook and after our great experience were extremely happy we did. The bikes were as new and top quality, the hotel accomodation was exceptional, the food was to die for and the route around the European Alps was out of this world. I have to mention our tour guides separately as they really made this trip. They were great riders, very knowledgeable and you could not ask for a greater bunch of guys. The guys and girls we rode with from other parts of the world were also excepetional people and we had some good times. Overall I can\'t recommend this trip highly enough and I will definitely organise a future tour with this company. Thank you very much for a great life experience.

After just finishing our first MotoTours Europe tour of the Dolomites and Tuscany, both my husband and my self were truly impressed with the professionalism and dedication of our tour guides Igor, Eric and... ...Tomaz. Not only did they make us feel welcome everyday, they had a passion to ride and teach us new techniques that made us better riders and always kept us safe. The views, accommodations, food and tourist attractions were amazing and truly made this a trip we will never forget. We are looking forward to seeing you next summer for another tour . We would also like to thank Mike and Bob for helping us on the very first day to get gear that the airline lost. Not only did they find somewhere for us to purchase new gear Bob also came to the store and advised us on the riding clothes we really needed. You go above and beyond to make it an experience of a lifetime!!! It was definitely worth every penny. Peter and Karla Doane Leicester, Massachusetts

Quality Hotels

We select from top quality hotels that also offer good value for money available along each route. Most are 4 star rated and our standard proposition places each rider in their own en-suite room, so, you can rest in comfort and luxury after a long day of riding without being kept awake with someone else's snoring!

Many of the hotels we use have comprehensive leisure facilities and all selected hotels have been carefully vetted to ensure they serve a good range of food to suit different palates because we usually book for dinner, bed and breakfast.

You can resat assured that we also ensure there is suitable parking for your bike.

Carefully Selected Routes

We guide you along carefully researched, well-planned and well-designed routes to ensure you have a safe and fun ride. We offer a broad range of tours, some visiting different hotels each night and covering large geographical areas while others operate from a fixed base.

Fixed base options prove especially popular for those with non-biking partners because daily journeys explore an area in greater detail and return to the same hotel each night enabling your partner to enjoy the hotels leisure facilities and local sights while you are riding and of course there is no baggage to haul as we return to the same base each night.

Flexible and Bespoke Offers

Touring Europe by motorcycle can be flexible and bespoke. Our day trips are also popular as gifts for birthdays etc., and with cruise ship passengers who have limited time to explore ashore. Most riders come for our set tours lasting 4-16 nights and spend most of those days riding.

We have organised many bespoke packages including one that that lasted 5 weeks and visited 10 countries. Our 9 day, 8 night touring holiday with 7 day riding is the most popular. We have several different options available to you and can also customise the trip according to your requirements.

Motorcycle Rental

At our base in Scotland we own a fleet of motorbikes used exclusively on our Scottish tours, elsewhere we rent late model well-maintained motorcycles from select business partners, so, if you are planning touring Scotland, other parts of the UK of further afield though Europe by bike through McTours you don’t have to bring your own or try to find a rental agent in your destination country or region. In most locations we operate in Europe we can supply BMW, CFMOTO, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, Yamaha and other brands on request. We can offer adventure, touring, sport and cruiser styles thus, there is a bike to suit every rider. Naturally, if you want to bring your own bike that’s just fine with us!

Motorcycle Tours of Europe

There are many different and beautiful European destinations to explore such as the Spanish Portuguese Douro, or the Alps bordering Farnce, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria that we regularly tour. For those looking within the British Isles we have great Scottish, English, Welsh and Irish vacations each offering a unique adventure. We like to provide our clients with the benefit of choice in some of the most popular destinations with the best European biker roads within specific regions and cities or through entire countries. We also offer more specific packages and bespoke offerings such as for those wanting Harley-Davidson Tours UK or elsewhere in Europe or BMW Motorrad Adventures. Here are some of the most popular locations we visit:

Motorcycle Tours Scotland

We have always offered a broad range of Scottish Tours some focusing on parts of the nation’s history, one concentrating on locations in Scotland used in the filming of the Outlander TV series, and all traversing great twisty roads. During recent years two, in particular, generate regular interest.

Motorcycle Tours Italy

We first added Italy to our itinerary in 2011 and have toured there every year since. Many of our past clients have favoured the north of the country around the Italian Lakes and Alps, Dolomites and Tyrol regions together with Tuscany though we have also toured the south, Sicily and Sardinia.

The Trullis at Alberobello – round white houses with conical shaped roofs

Starting in Naples we have offered a grand 16 day tour (including day of arrival and day of departure) that went to outstanding locations as we cross Campania to Puglia then sail over to Albania and onwards through Macedonia and Greece before returning to Italy.

Motorcycle Tours Spain

Spain was added in 2015 after a few years researching to verify the regions areas we wanted to offer. We quickly discovered how great the Spanish roads are focusing on Andalucia, the Pyrenees and the Spanish Portuguese border region.

Motorcycle Tours England

Northumberland, Yorkshire and the Lake District have always been popular areas for us because these offer a change from Glasgow and are easily reached. With a growing number of our UK based clients looking for a staycation we added The Cotswolds, Devon and Cornwall and have updated two of our former tours that embrace our favoured routes in the North of England.

Limestone cottages with red pan tile roof along the side of a Brookside at Hovingham - motorcbike tour Yorkshire and Lake District

There is quite a contrast in houses as we move from east to west coast. In Yorkshire limestone prevails giving the traditional houses a yellowish hue complimented by red pantiles roofs whilst over in Cumbria Slate is the favoured building material which give blue, grey and greenish colours to the traditional properties. The landscape of both also differs greatly as those who join this tour will soon appreciate. Guided Motorcycle Tour Yorkshire

The Ardennes tour (2023) was my first European riding experience, having only passed my bike test 2 years ago (perfect storm of pandemic and mid-life crisis!). As a relatively new rider, I had some reservations about my ability, but I needn’t have worried - the Freedom Motorcycle Tour experience is incredibly welcoming and set up from the start to accommodate all levels of experience. I spent a fantastic few days with a great group of people, had a load of laughs, the riding was amazing, and the hotel was superb (great weather too!). Face and Dee are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, and they make sure you have a great trip - I honestly can’t recommend it enough. Many of our group had been on previous tours with FMT, which says a lot, and I’ll definitely be going on another one; can’t wait!

Michael Taylor

I chose Freedom because of the reviews, plus a personal recommendation. My favourite aspect was mixing with a bunch of like minded riders, and knowing you are going to be shown some great roads. This is a great way to tour Europe if you prefer to have it all arranged for you.

Anthony Ford

I have met and ridden with some of the nicest people that you could ever meet and trust whilst riding your bike. Any tour will only be as good as the people who run them, and Freedom Motorcycles Tours are truly awesome and amazing people.

Keith Walters

The Black Forest tour was my first organised motorcycle tour I had taken part in , the whole experience from start to finish was simply fantastic and memorable, Face and Dee are passionate about motorcycle touring and are the perfect tour hosts and guides, friendly, approachable and ready to share advice and knowledge at anytime during the tour , I was made most welcomed and was able to ride at my own pace without any pressure whatsoever, this is without doubt a 5 star recommendation from me and will definitely be touring with FMT again in the future , big thank you to Face and Dee for a wonderful experience

Paul Johnson

I have been riding for 40 year and I chose Freedom Motorcycle Tours based on the reviews that I read. I think the bit I liked the most was the hotels. Freedom to me is professionalism and excellence.

For us when we book a tour company we really are putting our trust in the hands of that company and the people that run it. And since our first trip in 2016 through to our last trip at the end of the 2019 season, Face, Dee and Freedom have made sure our tours away are the best they can be.

Matt and Shirley Ilott

From start to finish what an enjoyable experience met with some really great people good accommodations top stuff . Phillip James great guy would happily tour with him anywhere in the world. All in all a fantastic experience for my first time .THANK YOU!

David Barber

Why he chooses Freedom, They’re a great company, cover all aspects of customer requirements. Excellent hosts and basically a great laugh. Couldn’t imagine doing these type of tours with another company. We are one big family, friends all over the UK. Great roads, great people, great company and a massive laugh. Lets you forget about general life and concentrate on biking.

Stuart Ross

I have just completed the 2023 Black forest tour B with https://freedommotorcycletours.com/ In short, don’t know these guys, never met them before the tour and therefore totally unbiased. Never done a tour before, never ridden in a group larger than 3 and never taken a bike to Europe. Start to finish, excellent!! Would not hesitate to recommend or use them again. Very good hosts and they worked very hard to give me a truly fab holiday. Thank you very much Dee and Face (Company owners and host on this tour) you made me feel very welcome and at home. Great company, fab group and amazing holiday. Big hugs and would be a pleasure to come on tour with you again. If you are in any doubt about which company to go on tour with in Europe. These guys are straight talking, no BS and excellent.

Keith Jolly

Face is an absolute legend for making sure that everyone is happy with every aspect of the tour and is the perfect host to share a few beers with over a meal. His tolerance of my initial inexperience was a very significant factor in my returning each year along with my gaining confidence.

Ian Leedham

"I've ridden through and around France for many years, but this was my first time in the Vercors Massif region as a base for daily rideouts and I'm so glad I booked it. A day and a half of riding got us into the foothills of the Alps and as soon as we reached the Vercors the big grin appeared and never left. This area of France has it all, a great mix of roads to test all abilities, fantastic mountain gorge views and safe viewing points for the all important photos. I enjoyed some of my best riding days on this trip and Freedom Motorcycle Tours certainly picked some of the best roads to ride on and made it an exciting & thoroughly enjoyable experience."

Charlie Spicer

We are now in our third year of touring with Freedom Motorcycle Tours and we honestly can not fault them. The pace is right, no one is pushed beyond their limits, the routes are great and the people they attract make it more worthwhile. Within hours everyone knows each other and friendships develop from an early stage to remain even outside of touring. Cant recommend Face and Dee enough and loads more touring to come!!

Gary and Kelly Cooper

With FMT you get exactly that FREEDOM! Freedom to enjoy yourself not having to worry about routes, destinations, hotels etc. Its all well planned in a professional but relaxed manner so you can just enjoy the ride and chill out at night and enjoy your holiday. Once you have been on tour with FMT you just come back for more.

Glenn Regan

Hello all of you beautiful dolls. Thanks for a great weeks holiday and plenty of laughs. Sorry about the singing, I can't help myself lol. A special thanks to Face and of course Dee for our great trip. Last but not list I'm now at home safe and sound. Two ring's as my mum would say. Hope to see you all again somewhere over rainbow. There's a song there somewhere I think. I will learn the words for next year. Cheers Kevin. 😁 😁 😁

Kevin Hurrell

Well what can I say that others haven't, first time on tour with a group from start to finish all instructions very clear and check in at EuroTunnel very easy, marker system explained well before hand and on the train and works very well. Then on to the best part the roads , views and people met on the tour was exceptional and I can't thank Face , the Freedom team and the rest of the group enough, for making it such a great experience they really know there stuff to get the most out of the tour with memorable for life. See you next year guys for another great tour.

Stephen Gregory

I chose Freedom after doing some research online and checking out a few reviews and thought the package looked like the right type of holiday for me - and I was right! The riding was superb through beautiful scenery and the accommodation was excellent. Key factor which (for me) made it a success was the fact that it was well organised but with a laid back relaxed feel. Drop off marker system worked well and lets everyone ride at their own pace. Best recommendation is a re-booking - I have booked the Italian Lakes 2020.

Andrew Rowley

The name says it all, I have done a few trips with FMT all been ace, trust me you have the BIGGEST smile ever an as always Dee an Face will literally move mountains to help you.

Keith Ramsden

“My recent Vosges Mountains tour with FMT was not only my first group trip, but after many years of UK based riding also my first venture to mainland Europe by bike. Everything was really well organised, with clear communications and guidance from Face & Dee. The experience exceeded all my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip! I will definitely go with FMT again, and it’s a 5-star review from me!”

Freedom were very friendly and more accommodating. Just the dynamics of it was excellent. You just get out and ride. Dont need to worry about routes, bookings etc. You can actually enjoy riding stress free. Just outstanding and friendly.

Suresh Kopathalli

What can I say? Again I’ve met some amazing people while touring with Freedom motorcycle tours, had a fantastic time riding some really amazing fun and challenging roads, learnt so many things from an IAM’s instructors during the tour about me and my motorcycle, found out that there is no such thing as an IT expert, stayed in some beautiful hotels had some great food on the way too, 42D or was it 41D you need to book the tour to find out. So all in all Freedom Motorcycle Tours has done it again for me and I cannot recommend you book a tour with them as soon as possible but you need to be quick they fill up fast. Dee you’re amazing and again organised a great tour, Michael you’re a great tour leader, it’s a pleasure to ride with you on these tours, so hope to see you on the next one.

Colin Harris

Ticked all the Boxes. Back from another great tour with Freedom Motorcycles, through the sweeping and winding roads of France, to the Millau Viaduct. Led by Michael (AKA Face) and supported by Dee back in the office or, as sometimes happens, from the rear of the group, FMT Tours are well organised and never fail to disappoint - I’ve been on a few and have more booked. Face always seems to find roads to challenge riders of all abilities with a suitable balance of great riding, scenery, fuel, lunch and coffee stops. Hotels are always to a good standard and in locations close to suitable eateries allowing the group banter to continue well into the evening. I will be back again soon

Guided motorcycle tours in Europe

Paved (asphalt) tours:, off the radar (dual-sport adventure) tours:.

Below, you will find all guided motorcycle tours in Europe we offer. Experienced guides, carefully planned routes and a support vehicle for your luggage (allowing you to ride luggage-free) will make you feel like a local, on a ride with a group of friends. Restaurants we choose serve best traditional food, while beautiful, often luxury hotels give that final punch to the whole guided tour experience, organized at a professional level. As we prefer riding in small groups, we limit the maximum number of motorcycles to eight per tour (upon agreement for private tours). That allows for safer, more fluent and overall much more enjoyable riding.

Whether it's our homeland Croatia or Balkans, Alps and Dolomites, Tuscany, Sardinia or Corsica, whether it's on-road or off-road, be sure you will ride with an experienced team, devoted and excited about every tour they do - trying to make each of them a bit different, special and unique. That's us!

To book your spot on a guided tour, let us know as soon as you start thinking of joining - sometimes all spots get booked very early. That way, we'll keep you up to date about availability and remaining spots. For any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact.

Why choose a guided motorcycle tour in Europe with Missed Adventures

Our motorcycle tours do not involve excessively high mileage days and in no way are they a race against the clock or each other – no one gets left behind. Excessively high mileage days on a motorcycle are not in our opinion, an enjoyable or relaxing holiday – I have done plenty of this as a solo rider throughout the UK and in Europe in the past and it gets to the point where it is no longer a pleasure!

Our guided motorcycle tours are designed to be manageable by everyone . It should be enjoyable and relaxing for all – including any pillion passengers. We want you experience the benefits that an exclusive motorcycle-touring holiday has to offer.

We stay in beautiful hotels during our tours, offering quality rooms and excellent facilities. These hotels are city, town or village based – depending on the tour being run and they provide either covered and secure, or secure parking for your motorcycle at each overnight location.

We also have the benefit of going off the beaten track and staying in beautiful secluded locations. Our personal research for quality hotel accommodation, in the right areas on our routes, will give you the customer the upmost confidence that your accommodation is somewhere you would want to return to.

From Portugal to Spain

On the first day after your arrival at Lisbon airport, you will meet your guide and the other participants at the Motoxplorers Adventure Store. After you have received everything you need for your big European tour, you will start your first journey with the rest of the group to the hotel in Lisbon and go out for dinner together.

On the second day, the route takes you through some of Portugal's most beautiful mountain ranges, deep into the country's interior. Enjoy the beautiful Açor and Estrela mountains surrounded by unspoilt nature. Take a break in the small historic village of Piódão with its stunning views before travelling to the highest mountain on the Portuguese mainland: Serra da Estrela. There, you can let the extraordinary impressions of the first day sink in.

The third day starts with a route along small towns that you can explore during the journey. Take a short coffee break in one of the most important historical villages in the history of Portuguese defence: Almeida, which is surrounded by a fortress that looks like a breathtaking twelve-pointed star from the air. Then it’s on to the Douro Natural Park, which links Portugal and Spain along the river of the same name. Crossing the Douro, you will reach Salamanca as early as possible so that you have enough time to spend the rest of the day visiting the impressive Salamanca Cathedral or the lively Plaza Mayor.

Charming wine regions and Spanish culture

The fourth day takes you along two well-known sections of the Way of St James: the 'Via de la Plata' and the French Way. Along the route, you will take a peaceful lunch break in the town of Burgos, where you will also have the opportunity to visit the city's imposing cathedral. Beautiful scenery accompanies you throughout the day, and you may come across a pilgrim or two. The day ends to the north in the wine region of La Rioja, where you'll begin to notice a change in your surroundings, with them becoming increasingly greener and more mountainous. Check into your hotel in the small town of Haro and enjoy a wonderful view with one of Spain's most delicious wines.

The fifth day is all about Spanish tradition and culture. You set off towards the heart of La Rioja to the traditional city of Logroño, and after a short stopover in the Basque Country, you continue on to Pamplona. You have the opportunity to spend some time there and have a coffee at Iruña: Ernest Hemingway's favourite restaurant. The crowning finale of the day is the last stage into the Pyrenees, more precisely into the Monte Perdido National Park, where you can end your day in a relaxed manner.

On the sixth day of your trip, you set off in the morning for Catalonia and thus also towards the Mediterranean. On the way, you can visit the special pilgrimage church of Nuestra Señora de Torreciudad, which is a real postcard motif with the Pyrenees in the background. In Tarragona, a visit to the spectacular amphitheatre awaits you, and from Garraf Natural Park you can enjoy an absolutely magnificent view of the sea. You end the day in the vibrant city of Barcelona.

The magic of Provence

On the seventh day, you take a break from riding: Barcelona awaits you! Explore the wide range of gastronomic and cultural offerings in the capital of Catalonia. See the impressive ‘La Sagrada Família’ church or try out some of the best tapas the city has to offer!

It's back onto your motorbike on the eighth day, when perhaps the most beautiful stage of the whole tour awaits you: crossing the Pyrenees on endless mountain roads and between impressive mountain ranges. Feel the magic of the Pyrenees in the Cadí Moxieró Natural Park, make a stopover in Andorra and then cross the border into France. Once you arrive in the medieval town of Carcassonne – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – you can let the many impressions of the day sink in.

You start the ninth day of the Europe Grand Tour well rested. The French region of Provence has a very special charm with beautiful coastal regions, historical culture and breathtaking scenery. Enjoy a coffee with a view of the deep blue sea during your stop in Séte, pass through Nîmes and Arles and end your day with a stroll through the alleyways of Aix-en-Provence.

From France to Italy

The tenth day is upon us and with it, the most charming section of the French Rivera: the Côte d'Azur. You can enjoy a view of the sea along the coast. You make a short stopover in Cannes and St Tropéz and in Nice, the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes, then you return to your hotel for the night.

The eleventh day has a very special highlight in store for you: crossing the border into Italy! In Monaco – the second smallest state in the world – you take a photo break and explore the highlights of the town before travelling along the Italian Riviera to the charming little town of Sanremo. Here you can enjoy the architecture and Italian life before you reach the end of the stage: Milan.

The twelfth day gives you the opportunity to relax a little and explore Italy's second largest city. Milan is all about fashion and at the same time offers a multitude of sights and restaurants to discover! You will also get tips from your tour guide.

Natural paradise and picturesque towns

After enjoying city life and the cosmopolitan atmosphere along the coast to the full on the last few days, on the thirteenth day you immerse yourself fully in the nature of the Alps. The marvellous mountain roads, waterfalls and small Alpine villages offer spectacular views, as does your stopover at Lake Como. You then cross the border into Switzerland, make a short stop in the St. Moritz ski resort and finally travel to your destination for the day in Davos.

On the fourteenth day, you set off from Davos for the seventh country on the Grand Europe Tour: Liechtenstein, nestled between the Swiss and Austrian mountains. You then cross the border into Bavaria for the first time to visit Lindau, a picturesque island on Lake Constance. The onward journey finally takes you to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol. Here you can recover from the day and enjoy a walk with a wonderful view.

The fifteenth day takes you to the last stage of your spectacular journey. The highlight of the day is also the first stopover: Neuschwanstein Castle. Majestically situated on a hill and surrounded by a beautiful landscape, this experience is not to be missed. You then ride to a small town at the foot of the Alps, which has become an important part of BMW Motorrad's history: Garmish-Partenkirchen, which is associated with the BMW Motorrad Days. Your onward journey takes you past Lake Starnberg to the capital of Bavaria: Munich. Enjoy the rich variety of culture, history and gastronomy here and end the day in peace with a beer.

The home of BMW

A very special highlight for all BMW enthusiasts awaits you at the end of the sixteenth day. Take the opportunity to visit the halls of the BMW Museum and BMW Welt. Immerse yourself in the history of the brand and learn all about the milestones of BMW and BMW Motorrad.

On the last day of the Europe Grand Tour, you will return home with a wealth of new experiences and can reminisce about this spectacular journey for a long time to come!

Ride the adventure of your life on a motorbike through the unique landscape of Europe.

By Nathan Millward

BikeSocial

Where does it start?  Reykjavik Where does it end?  Reykjavik  How long is it?  828 miles

Why’s it great?

The ring road of Iceland is by no means the best route on the island, but it does serve as a great jump off point for exploring the more interesting corners of the island.

What do I need to know?

Getting to Iceland is the tricky part. You can either take the two-day ferry from the top of Denmark (about a 1000 mile run from the UK) or ship your bike with Eimskip  out of Immingham and fly in to meet it. Both options cost roughly the same at around £1000 by the time you’ve paid for either the flights if you’re shipping in, or the travelling costs through Europe if you’re taking the ferry. Not cheap, granted, but then bike rental is on the expensive side, with costs of around 250 Euros per day, which might make sense if you’re there for less than seven days.

Anything else?

Be prepared for poor weather even in summer; it can be a bleak place. Prices are high, especially for restaurant meals, alcohol and hotels, but if you’re camping and stove cooking it shouldn’t cost you any more than travelling to mainland Europe. The roads are surprisingly well surfaced, with the unpaved F roads heading into more remote, challenging places that are perfect for trail bike riders. But even a Harley could make a good fist of touring Iceland. For more information read the full BikeSocial report here .

Where does it start?  Bascov Where does it end?  Sibiu How long is it?  56 miles

Why is it great?

An obvious suggestion ever since Top Gear featured it a few years back, the road definitely carries some romance and gives good reason to push east out of western Europe.

What do I need to know?

The road is 56 miles in length and crosses the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains. It’s located approximately 130 miles west of the Romanian capital Bucharest, and almost 1500 miles east of Dover, meaning that it’s going to need a couple of weeks to get out there and back. The advice, if you do go, is to get there early as traffic can be dense.

Check the road is open before heading out. Generally, it’s closed from mid-October to early June due to snow, so the window is short. In a way the road would arguably best serve as a marker for a wider trip, with good excuse for finding an interesting route for getting down there and back. A route down through the Balkan countries of Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia is increasingly popular with bikers, while a route back through the Alps would give you the best of both worlds.

But so much depends on how much time you have. If you’re racing to get down there and racing to get back, then maybe consider an interesting road a little closer to home. Good information can be found here .

BikeSocial

Where does it start?  Kinsale, County Cork Where does it end?  Londonderry How long is it?  1553 miles

Why is it great?

Officially the longest coastal route in the world, and with inexpensive ferries from the Welsh ports of either Fishguard or Holyhead, the Wild Atlantic Way is a dream destination for those with limited time or looking for adventure a little closer to home.

It’s not so much a point-to-point route, more a theme of travel along the coastline of Ireland, covering a total distance of 1553 miles and passing through nine counties and three provinces. The tourist board designates six regions of the route; Northern Headlands, Surf Coast, Bay Coast, Cliff Coast, Southern Peninsulas and Haven Coast, with the Southern Peninsula likely to be increasingly popular as it’s just off shore that Great Skellig – the island featured in the latest Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi – can be found, with boats from the mainland able to take you there.

Anything else?

Prepare for rain and be realistic about distances. Those narrow country lanes take a lot longer to navigate than a regular A-road, so 150 miles a day might be the top end of what’s manageable. To plan a route or to find out more head to the official site at www.wildatlanticway.com

The Three Passes of Switzerland

Where does it start?  Andermatt  Where does end?  Andermatt How long is it?  80 miles

An easy to navigate route that takes in three amazing Alpine passes with the full route do-able in a day.

The three passes of Susten, Furka and Grimsel are in the Alpine region of Switzerland, crossing the Bernese Alps at an elevation above 2000 metres. The passes are generally closed between October and May due to show.

The Grimsel is a personal favourite due to the multiple well-surfaced switchbacks on the way up, heading clockwise, with emerald blue lakes on the way down. The Furka Pass is higher, at a peak of 2429 metres, and arguably tighter and not as well surfaced, but still an excellent riding road, as is Susten.

The small Alpine town of Andermatt is a good place to base yourself, with all the facilities and some great riding east of there if you wish to venture further into Switzerland. Be wary of Switzerland’s strict speed limits and try not to get carried away; fines are harsh. Also be wary of busy weekend traffic, and as with all foreign riding, try to keep within your own limits and enjoy the scenery. If you have the time then the Nufenen Pass, just to the south of the loop, is also worth riding.

Time wise, if you push straight through France it is easily possible to do this loop and be back home again in a week.

Verdon Gorge

Where does it start?  Moustiers-Sainte-Marie Where does it end?  Moustiers-Sainte-Marie How long is it?  56 miles

The Verdon Gorge is a magnificent site in itself – Europe’s Grand Canyon – and the roads around it match it for excitement. The coastal resorts of Nice and Monaco aren’t far away either.

The Verdon Gorge is down in the south of France, just to the north of Nice and Monaco. It’s 25 kilometres in length and 700 metres deep, and was formed by the Verdon River. Much like most canyons, it creeps up on you; one minute the land is flat, the next minute you’re at the rim of a huge canyon. The road around it is what you’re going for, with endless twisting sections and parts where it traces right across the top of the rim, a steel barrier the only thing stopping you from a long drop to the bottom.

Great riding, great scenery, great weather. And if you want to explore the gorge further then venture along D23, an interior road (broken tarmac in the main) that drops south from the town of La Palud-sur-Verdon on the north side of the rim. Camping is a good option for accommodation in this region, with campsites plentiful.

As with any popular tourist place, traffic can be an issue in peak season, but at least unlike the Alpine passes listed above, you can ride the Verdon Gorge most of the year, so aim for the shoulder season of spring or autumn and you’ll be fine. Riding clockwise is recommended for the novice rider as you’re not as exposed to the drops, and if you don’t fancy riding all the way down to the South of France, consider using www.bikeshuttle.co.uk , who can freight your bike down to Toulouse while your fly. It still leaves a 300 mile ride to the Gorge, but that might be a better option than riding from your home in the UK, especially if time is a factor.

The Normandy Beaches

Where does it start?  Rouen Where does it end?   Mont Saint-Michael How long is it?  340 miles

Good riding as well as the historical element makes for an easily accessible overseas road trip.

This coastline of France has long held significance in the minds of British visitors. It’s also easy to access and doesn’t feel that far from home, so for the novice overseas explorer it’s not going to be as intimidating as heading out to the Alps for example.

The route starts in the Normandy capital of Rouen, where you’ll find lots of history dating back to medieval times, before heading towards the Normandy Beaches, and passing through Caen where you’ll find a selection of war museums at the old castle. Then you have the beaches; Omaha Beach with cliffs riddled with German bunkers, Juno Beach where the Canadians came ashore, Utah Beach led by the US 4th infantry, Gold Beach at Arromanches – where the British 50th Infantry Division landed – and Sword Beach on the left flank, where the 6th Airborne Division landed.

The war graves of the Bayeux War Cemetery, Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Ranville, Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery and the La Cambe German War Cemetery can also all be visited in this area.

The route finally concludes with the stunning medieval monastery at Mont Saint-Michael. The Brittany ferries website – a great option for getting over there – has a superb guide to the region at www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/d-day-guide

Anything Else?

The cheapest way of getting there is via the Dover-Calais route, but for more convenience consider sailing from Portsmouth to either Le Havre, Caen or Cherbourg, which can also be reached via a ferry from Poole. Take one of these options and you could make a good tour of it even in the time frame of a long weekend. For more information on Normandy visit the tourist board website .

Motorcycle Tours in Europe: Top 10 Best Routes and Roads

Where does it start?  Calais, France Where does it end?  Garmisch, Germany  How long is it?  715 miles

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a town in southern Bavaria that every year plays host to the biggest BMW gathering in the world (it’s also open to riders of any bike) – it’s well worth heading down to. This is a scenic way of getting there.

For 2018 the event is from 6th to 8th July, with this route taking three days to get down there at a leisurely pace, with time to enjoy some stop-offs on the way. You can do the ride back via motorways in a day if needs be, but it’s best if you have time to make an interesting round-trip of it.

From Calais take the A26/E7 all the way down to junction 9 near Bonavis. From there follow the 644 to Le Catelet, then the D28 to the D960 all the way to Vernis.

From there, the D966 to Montcornet, D946 to Vouziers, D982 to Sainte-Menehould, then A4 and finally D904 and D3 down to Port-a-Mousson for the first night’s stop. You’ll find a good choice of hotels here.

On the second day, head across country on the D913 and D955 to the N4, aiming for Baden-Baden. South from here begins the famous B500 through the Black Forest, aiming for somewhere around the town of Schluchsee, 105 miles to the south of Baden-Baden. Be mindful that the B500 can be busy with tourist traffic and police.

The final day (and to be honest you could shorten this run down to two days if you got cracking) is east along the German/Austrian border, aiming for Friedrichshafen on the shores of Lake Constance. The 308 east from there takes you to the 199 and briefly into Austria, before returning to Germany on the 187 where you’ll soon arrive in Garmisch.

You can find route maps here:

Day One: https://www.motogoloco.com/map/?route=9955 Day Two: https://www.motogoloco.com/map/?route=9956 Day Three: https://www.motogoloco.com/map?route=9957

Book early if you want accommodation in the town during the event as it gets busy with tens of thousands of bikers over the weekend. It is something of a spectacle, even for those not interested in the BMW brand. The food and drink are good, and there’s free camping in the meadows beneath the ski mountains. The event itself is also free to attend – a great excuse for a road trip.

BikeSocial

Where does it start?  Garmisch  Where does it end?  Garmisch  How long is it?  200 miles

If you’ve made it down to Garmisch, this is a fine route for exploring some of the best mountain roads through the Alps .

Heading clockwise, this route takes you on two good passes of Stelvio and the excellent Timmelsjoch that connects the Ötztal valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol to the Passeier Valley in the Italian province of South Tyrol.

On the Italian side, the road to reach the summit is called SS44bis, and on the Austrian side, there’s a toll road, called Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse. From Garmisch take the E533 down to the A12, then 186 south to the ski resort of Sölden (or Soelden) and the start of the Timmelsjoch. Sölden is an upmarket resort with some camping options.

The Ötztal Glacier Road up from Sölden to the glacier (and back) is also a must-ride, with a nominal toll charge mid-way up. From there south along the Timmelsjoch, with a single journey by motorcycle costing 14 Euros, but well worth it, with 38 kilometres of twisting Alpine road that’s well-surfaced and well-sighted. From there take the SS44 leading to Merano, west on the SS38 with a left turn leading to the famous Stelvio Pass.

The Stelvio is maybe a touch over-rated, but it’s still worth riding. It’s quite busy and narrow in places, but worth it for the experience. The town of Bormio at the bottom has good facilities, while onto Livingo has you pointing north, back towards Garmisch, with the SS41 east to the SS40 running north, before figuring your way back to Garmisch, or simply heading back from the foot of the Stelvio heading west to where you could link up with the Furka-Susten-Grimsel Pass listed earlier.

While it takes effort to get through France to the Alps, it is worth it, though try not to rush it and look for ways of avoiding the monotony of the motorways where possible.

The Road to the Fjords

Where does it start?  Bergen   Where does it end?  Kristiansand  How long is it?  273 miles

This is a road trip in itself – up along the coast of Norway – but the best bit is that upon reaching Bergen, a world of opportunity opens up for exploring the famous Norwegian fjords.

This route begins in the port town of Kristiansand, which can be reached by catching a ferry from Hirtshals at the top of Denmark. This is a two-hour ferry, operated by either Color Line  or Fjord Line , with multiple sailings throughout the day and costs around £90 return.

There’s no easy way of reaching the top of Denmark to begin with – not since DFDS stopped its route from the UK to Denmark back in 2014. Harwich to the Hook of Holland is about the best you’ll get, with a 650mile slog to Hirtshals from there.

Once in Norway, the route is easy to follow along the E39, winding along the coast, passing through tunnels and with short ferry crossings between the longer stretches. Once you’ve reached Bergen the options are endless for exploring the Fjords, all of which are no more than a day’s ride away, including Hardangerfjord and Aurlandsfjorden. Or park the bike and take a boat ride.

Norway is a surprisingly easy country to explore, with good road conditions, plentiful camping and lodging facilities and a well-established tourist network. Some push onto Nordkapp at the very top, but without doing that extra huge distance, there’s plenty to be seen in South and Central Norway, with it easy to bolt on a side tour through Sweden. If you’re into your trail riding, consider combining it with parts of the TET listed above.

Just like any holiday, a trip on a motorcycle – be it in the UK, Europe or beyond – can be ruined by delays, lost documents, illness and more. There are plenty of travel insurance options, but you need to make sure you get a policy that includes riding motorcycles, and if it does, that it's for bikes of the engine size you'll be riding (many only cover up to 250cc). At its most basic, you should look for insurance that provides cover for the following:

Medical expenses

Loss or theft of personal possessions

Lost or delayed luggage

Loss of your passport and other documents

Travel delays and disruptions

Having to cut your holiday short

In addition though, if you’re taking a motorcycle (or you're renting one while you’re away) be sure that your insurer will cover you for any medical expenses, should you have an accident. You must also think about where you’re riding – some policies won’t cover you if you’re trail or enduro riding, or if you’re on a race track. Remember – this isn’t about your bike being covered, it’s about your medical expenses, should the worst happen.

If you're only going away once, a single-trip policy will likely be all you need, but also consider an annual policy, which could extend to cover your family holidays too (a good insurer should also be able to offer cover for your whole family).

What to Pack for a Europe Motorcycle Tour

Welcome to the Europe Motorcycle Tour Packing Guide. This article will explain everything you need for a European bike trip with links to more in-depth guides if you fancy digging deeper. Happy touring!

Packing for a Europe Motorcycle Tour

Europe is motorcycle touring heaven. It’s got it all from jaw-dropping mountains to gorgeous coastal routes and everything in between. It’s easy to get to from the UK, easy to navigate and you’re pretty much guaranteed an epic ride. The only tricky thing is knowing what to take because the continent is so vast and the terrain so varied.

But as it’s over 6 million square miles, we can’t account for every type of European tour. So we’ll focus on the standard couple of weeks, summer tour to mainland Europe. If that sounds like your trip, then your main packing focus is to go ultra-light, compact and minimal. If you’re after a long-term, multi-climate trip then check out our RTW packing list and the complete trip checklist.

Your trip will most likely be more about the riding than the travelling and so your set-up wants to be as light and minimalist as possible. That makes your packing in the morning and evening quicker, your bike easier to ride and there’s less to worry about. It’s easy to get caught out with too much stuff and overpack, especially if it’s your first trip…

But this article’s job is to avoid that and provide you with a complete kit list for your European motorcycle tour with links to more in-depth guides if you fancy digging deeper.

Motorcycle riding gear for Europe

It completely depends where in Europe you’re going, how long you’re travelling for and the time of year you’re going. We’ve experienced extremes of -20C to +40C in Europe and so it’s important to take the time of year and country into consideration.

But as mentioned above, the majority of European motorcycle tours are a couple of weeks and during summer. So we’ll go on that basis for this section.

Riding suit

Pro-laminate: If you’re not riding in winter then you don’t need pro-laminate. It’s fantastic for cold and wet weather riding as water slides off the outer shell, so your jacket wont feel heavy and sodden. But it’s expensive, heavy and not as breathable. If you are riding in winter, then take a look at this packed and comprehensive cold weather riding gear guide.

READ MORE: The Ultimate Winter Motorcycle Riding Gear Guide

Gore-Tex:  You can get many types of waterproof layerings for motorcycle suits and Gore-Tex is the most well-known. It is usually provided in a removable inner layer. This is a good idea if you’re sometimes riding through cold and wet conditions but also need your suit to be breathable via vents. The problem is when you don’t have the layer in and then you’re met with a downpour, you’ve then got to take your jacket off and zip your layer back into it (even trickier with trousers!). Your outer jacket will still get sodden and soaked.

READ MORE: The Best Waterproof Motorcycle Jackets

Mesh or non-waterproof: This is your best option. Go for a lightweight, breathable and comfortable motorcycle jacket. If you find one with a removable waterproof liner, then go for that and leave the liner at home. Instead, take a cheap two-piece waterproof throwover. It’s easier to chuck that on than taking your gear off on the side of the road to zip liners in. Your suit wont get sodden and it also acts as a windbreaker on cold rides.

Your riding suit needs to be comfortable, large enough to take a decent thermal jacket underneath, with plenty of easily accessible pockets, plenty of ventilation and protection in the shoulder, elbows, back and knees. Bear in mind that jackets tend to come with rubbish foam back protectors and proper CE approved protectors need to be bought separately.

It’s always worth packing two pairs of gloves: one lightweight, breathable summer pair with plenty of ventilation and a thick waterproof pair. Always dry your waterproof pair in the evenings as you never know when you’ll need them.

A good, comfortable and worn-in pair of touring boots are important. Make sure they’re waterproof.

READ MORE: The 10 Best Adventure Bike Boots

A motorcycle helmet must be comfortable and safe above all else. Next up, it’s worth investing in a lid that has a pinlock anti-fog visor and a drop down internal sun visor too. There should be decent vents at the mouthpiece, top of head and exhaust ports at the rear. We cover choosing the right helmet for your trip in more detail in our choosing your adventure gear guide below. We also have a top 10 Touring Helmets Guide as well as adventure bike helmet guide too.

Like with the removable waterproof liner, if your suit comes with a removable thermal liner just throw it away – they’re usually rubbish. Pack a soft and light down-jacket instead. They pack up smaller into stuff sacks than those flimsy thermal liners you get with your jacket are ten times better and can be worn off the bike. For a good example check out our Sub Zero Review.

Paperwork for Europe

Main documents

Take originals of your passport, driver’s licence, insurance certificate, MoT and V5 logbook (all subject to change from January 2021).

An International Driver’s Permit (IDP) is available from your local Post Office (for around £5) and will be required once the UK leaves the EU, probably from Jan 2021. It’s worth having one anyway. You just need to take a passport size photograph and your driver’s licence to the Post Office and it’s done there and then. Check the Gov website  for more information.

Vehicle insurance

Not all motorcycle insurance policies will cover you to ride in Europe. And some that say they do may only cover you for 15 or 30 days. You will have to check with your provider how long you are covered for.

Green Card insurance for your motorcycle may also be needed for certain European countries like Bosnia for example. It is highly likely that a Green Card will be compulsory after January 2021.

Breakdown cover

Breakdown cover can sometimes come included with your vehicle insurance. If not, it’s often easy to add it as a bolt-on. It’s worth having this service if you’re touring in Europe as recovery costs can be very expensive. Make sure you know exactly what you’re covered for – for example, if your bike is beyond repair will they arrange for it to be returned to the UK?

Personal insurance

It’s also highly advisable to get personal travel insurance. This is different and separate to your motorcycle insurance, which only covers your vehicle. For a comprehensive and detailed guide on it, check out the guide below.

Law and rules

Please remember that the paperwork, law and rules for UK nationals touring in Europe can change after January 2021. But for now, you will also need the following:

  • A GB sticker on your number plate is compulsory
  • You will need a daytime sticker for your headlight and spare bulbs.
  • A high-vis jacket (and one for your pillion in case you breakdown).

Motorcycle Travel Insurance

Luggage options.

The type of motorcycle luggage set-up you go for is dependent on your type of trip. If you were headed to outer Mongolia then it’s worth using soft panniers as you’ll probably have a fair few spills. But you probably won’t have that problem on a European tour. Let’s assume your trip is 100% tarmac based, that means you can go for whatever set-up you like, whatever works for your bike and fits your budget.

Hard luggage is a great option for security, protection and peace of mind. Lock your gear away and don’t worry about it as you dive in to those local coffee shops. The problem is that they’re wide, heavy and expensive.

Soft panniers

Perfect for more off-road focused trips. Lightweight, cheaper but not as secure. Another option is to go for soft panniers and a hard top box for your valuables.

A short two-week tour means you’re probably not going to be diving in and out of panniers all the time. An easy option is to just go for a 40-60 litre duffel bag and strap it down with a pair of Rok Straps. Couple that with a tank bag for quick access items and you’re good to go.

Camping equipment

Camping gear is the bulkiest and largest kit you can carry on a motorcycle trip. The majority of motorcycle tours in Europe don’t take in camping because people have a lot of miles to cover and don’t want to spend their time setting up tents every night.

However, it is an extremely cost-effective way to travel, especially in Europe as hotels can be expensive. For an in-depth guide to camping while motorcycle travelling and how to save money on hotels, accommodation and camping check out this guide:

READ MORE: How to Motorcycle Travel on the Cheap

Be prepared to shave this kit down as much as you can to the bear essentials. And only take it if you’re definitely going to be camping (I know a guy who rode from the UK to Japan and camped once just so he didn’t feel like it was a complete waste).

If you are camping, then have a read of our dedicated guides:

Personal clothing and hygiene

Try and keep your personal clothing to a minimum. If you’re planning on regularly staying in hotels then you may want footwear other than bike boots and flip flops. Only pack a couple of shirts, a few t-shirts, enough pants and socks for a week, a pair of trousers, shorts and swimming trunks. If you wear a motorcycle specific riding top then you wont eat into your supply of fresh t-shirts. Keep your kit small and light and roll it instead of folding.

As for hygiene, try and only pack small travel size versions of everything. Again, if you’re staying in hotels then you won’t need to pack shower gel and shampoo either.

Electronics

Your electronics kit is completely down to personal preference. At the very least you should take a mobile phone in case you run into trouble, break down or get lost. Most UK phone data plans offer free data in Europe, but regardless it’s still worth downloading the free app Maps.Me and downloading the specific country maps you’re travelling to. They can be used off-line as navigation (it’s all we use to navigate on our round-the-world trip). If you don’t fancy using your phone then don’t forget to pack your sat-nav (or go old school with proper paper maps!).

Camera equipment is also pretty important these days. If you want something more than your phone to shoot on, check out our photography guide:

Motorcycle and kit security when travelling abroad is always a concern. Your options are a bike tracker, chain and lock, disc-lock, alarm or a dusty old cover.

If you’re worried about leaving your helmet or jacket and jeans on the bike while you go off for a stroll, you could always go for a PacSafe Exo Mesh or a single cable and lock your kit to the bike.

If you’re after more info on keeping your motorcycle and gear safe while touring abroad, here’s our dedicated article:

  • How to Keep Your Motorcycle Safe While Travelling
  • Abus Granite Extreme Chain Review
  • PacSafe Exo Mesh Net Review

It’s always worth carrying a few tools for minor repairs while touring. If you’re not heading out into the wilds then you don’t need a full-on comprehensive kit – just enough to get you out of light trouble like a multi-tool, Gaffa tape, cable ties and metal epoxy. Our number one bit of kit is a small ratchet strap. They’re invaluable on motorcycle trips as they can hold a broken wheel together, fasten a broken pannier frame back and even tow your bike.

The main thing is a puncture repair kit that includes an electric pump. If you have tubeless tyres then you’ll want a plug set and can get away with air canisters. If you have tubed tyres then you’re going to want to pack tyre levers, spare tubes, a patch kit and a bit of dish soap for easing the tyre back onto the rim. Having tubeless tyres will of course save you a lot of faff, but having a repair kit for either will save hours of waiting by the roadside.

If you’re interested in packing a more comprehensive toolkit, then take a look at our detailed guide:

Money:  Don’t forget your money! It’s always worth carrying cash with you on a European tour as you’ll never know when you need it. Make sure your bank cards don’t charge an extortionate non-sterling transaction fee on top of whatever exchange rate they’re using. For a detailed write-up on the best bank card to use abroad for UK nationals, check out our cheap travel guide below.

First aid kit:  It’s always worth carrying a small first aid kit with basic medication and emergency supplies.

Hi. Found this page after a little Google research on packing for my upcoming (but postponed) European bike tour. Wanted to say it’s very helpful and all of the links to the other more detailed guides are great. Thanks

Hi Bill! Thanks very much! Glad you found it helpful. Where are you planning on riding to on your tour?

Portugal is the plan. Time for some sun and sea for me but will have to wait until next year though. Doesn’t hurt to start planning though!

Portugal sounds brilliant! What a beautiful place to ride. We have a pretty detailed guide all on touring in Portugal that might be helpful. Here’s the link Motorcycle Travel Guide: Portugal . Best of luck with your planning and trip, just shout if you need anything! Cheers

Really enjoying your content from your website, my wife and I are leaving for a trip to Monoco from Inverness in Scotland, we leave in July. The plan is to do it over 2 weeks, we rode to Lake Garda in Italy in 2020 and had a blast! Very envious of you both being able to travel the globe, if I thought we had enough money to do it we would be off!

Take care for now and thanks again.

Hi Euan, Thanks very much for posting your comment and for your kind words! Oh that sounds like an awesome trip! Monaco is certainly an interesting place to visit – make sure you ride the roads above the city so you’re looking down on it. Great views. Ah don’t be envious, it’s not as glamorous as it sounds – soaking wet or boiling hot all the time, living in a tent and eating noodles every day haha. Monaco and Lake Garda sound much more like living the life! Hope you both enjoy your trip and all the best to you mate, Andy

Hi. Just wanted to say thank you for this guide. I’m off to Spain and France on my own in July for my first ever motorbike tour. I’ve recently bought a TransAlp and have been wondering about what luggage to use. I’m thinking that an SW Motech 35l dry bag on the bag and an 8l tank bag will be enough as I’m staying in hotels so won’t be needing much. Do you think that will work? Cheers.

Hi John, thanks very much for your comment! Glad you found the guide helpful. Also, excellent to hear about your upcoming trip to Spain and France – and solo too! Brilliant! Good question! Luggage is very subjective and of course it depends on how much you pack. If you’re off for a few weeks, in Europe (so I assume you’re not carrying tools), aren’t camping, and are not taking laptops/cameras/drones etc. Then you should definitely be good with a 35-40L duffle and a tank bag. I recommend buying a pair of RokStraps and not using bungees, it’ll make your life a lot easier!

Additionally, collect all the gear you’re planning on taking and lay it on your floor. Go through it and ask yourself seriously if you really think you will use it. If not, don’t take it. Chances are you will no doubt take more than you need if its your first big tour. But that’s just the learning process.

We do have a lot of guides on luggage, and more guides on packing. Luggage guides – Packing guides

You’ll find recommendations for luggage and tank bags and our complete packing list in there too. Hope all this helps, and please do comment back here after your tour to let us know how you got on! Shout if you need anything else, Cheers, Andy

Thanks so much for getting back to me Andy. I’ve gone with your advice and ordered a Motech 35ltr Drybag and a tank bag. I’m travelling light and this volume will work. Thanks for confirming mate. Your guides have been invaluable and I’ll sure comment back here when I return in July. Cheers to you both.

Great stuff! And thanks again for your kind words. Hope you have a fantastic trip and we look forward to hearing how it goes! All the best mate. Andy

Eurobike 2024 tech roundup: The most interesting things on show

Though dominated by electric bikes, there are still lots of exciting new things to check out in Frankfurt

Three tech finds at Eurobike 2024

Eurobike has long been the biggest bike show in Europe and is truly enormous. With over 1,800 companies exhibiting over 150,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor space, it takes days to get around, and even then it's easy to miss things.

These days it is more of a trade event than a launch platform, as product gets shown throughout the year, and lots of the latest road tech debuted at the Tour de France only a week ago, as highlighted by our Tour tech gallery .

Though it's dominated by electric bikes and a dizzying array of bike styles, there is still a lot of interesting road and gravel kit to check out, and here are our highlights.

Classified's new 16-speed groupset

Classified probably had the biggest road-based news at the now e-bike-dominated event with the introduction of its 16-speed groupset in conjunction with TRP. Don't panic, though, that doesn't mean there's a new 16-speed cassette, more that you can control the gears with one shifter that uses a combination of the seamless two-speed hub shifting with a wireless 12-speed rear derailleur to give you 16 individual gears operable from a single shift lever with no overlapping gear ratios.

DT Swiss x Continental Aero 111 tyre

Elite's new trainer

The eagle-eyed among you might have spotted the strange new tyre being used by Decathlon-AG2R-La Mondiale at the Tour de France, and it's now been unveiled officially as a Partnership between DT Swiss, Continental, and SwissSide as a new aero front-only tyre. What started out as a bit of tinkering from the engineers in the wind tunnel has made it to the Tour, and though only being used by one team so far, there are plenty of others putting the front-specific tyre to test in the never-ending aero arms race.

Elite Square indoor bike

Indoor training can take a terrible toll on your bike if you're not careful, and to save you from turning your pride and joy into a sweaty, corroded mess, Elite has launched the Square. Unlike other complete options from brands like Wahoo and Tacx, the Square is a trainer bike frame that is attached to a trainer so that you can retrofit it to your existing direct drive turbo, and it will even work with other non-Elite trainers.

With tons of features, easy-to-use adjustments, and a super solid and stable frame, this looks like a great option for those looking to improve their training experience this winter.

Elite Avanti trainer

Elite also had its latest Avanti trainer, which brings Wi-Fi technology to a new platform designed to compete with the Wahoo Kickr Core . The addition of Wi-Fi means you have more Bluetooth options open, which is handy for those using systems like Apple TV for indoor training setups. It also has a really neat little storage box complete with all the adaptors and a brake pad block, so you won't have to worry about losing the adaptors when travelling.

Pirelli tyres

A Pirelli bike tyre stands next to a Formula 1 tyre

I'm all for the wider tyre trend on race bikes, but I think Pirelli might have gone a bit too far this time.

Giant Trinity disc Jayco AlUla prototype

First seen at the Tour of Romandie, Giant had the Trinity disc prototype on display in Jayco AlUla colours. Details are still hard to come by, but Giant has taken advantage of the relaxed UCI rules with deep-bladed aero forks and head tube area. There's also a neat-looking mono riser bar set up and lots of clearance for wide tyres.

Giant Revolt gravel bike

Giant also had the recently launched and updated Revolt gravel bikes on show. With their new storage options and comfort-orientated finishing kit, they look to improve on the well-loved previous version.

SRAM WBR Buffalo two-speed bike

Having recently launched its Red groupset, there wasn't much new kit on display at SRAM, though it did have its latest Buffalo bike on display with its innovative two-speed drivetrain and seriously bomb-proof yet simple build.

Shifting is handled by two chainrings and freewheels connected by a shift ring. To operate it, the rider imply backpedals half a turn, and it changes from one gear to the other. It's a simple system with no need for a shifter or cable and means that those in tougher terrain can make use of the Buffalo bikes.

Designed to enable African communities to benefit from the freedom of a bike with its World Bicycle Relief fund, WBR has got over 800,000 bikes to communities that need them, which is a seriously impressive number.

ERE Research Aero TT wheels

I've tested some lovely gravel wheels from ERE Research in the past, but I spotted these being used on the time trial bikes of Intermarché-Wanty recently and wanted to check them out. With the Genus AE92-D 92mm deep wheel up front and the Genus AE00-D disc wheel out back, they look like an interesting option for those looking for a fast disc brake setup.

ERE Research Genus tyres

ERE also had its range of Genus tyres on display, which had a pleasingly old-school look to them with their tan side walls and grippy-looking tread but with bang-up-to-date tubeless tech, high TPI carcass, and wide sizes.

ERE Research adjustable saddle

Finally, ERE also had a clever take on saddle tech, with this model which lets you adjust the tension on the saddle rails for differing levels of flex and, therefore, comfort with the flick of a small lever just under the nose. This isn't a new thing to ERE, but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.

Shimano S-Phyre XC 903 shoes

As used by none other than Mathieu van der Poel, Shimano’s latest top-of-the-range XC shoe is a lightweight race shoe with a double Boa setup and features such as a lock-down heel to keep the shoe secure and light but grippy enough outsole for when you need to get off and run. They come in three colors and a wide-fit version, and like other Shimano shoes, there should be plenty of room in the toe box, too.

PRO Stealth Superlight saddle

The popular Stealth Superlight saddle has been updated and is now 15g lighter. However, it is still comfortable and optimized for an aggressive aero position for those looking to shave a few grams from their race bike.

PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebar and PRO Vibe Aero Stem

Designed to offer the benefits of an aero one-piece bar and stem setup but without the fit and adjustment drawbacks, PRO had its latest setup on display. Its 37cm-wide version has a 126mm drop, 77mm reach and weighs 240 grams.

Its external internal cable routing will be welcomed by mechanics far and wide. PRO has even have dedicated slots for Shimano satellite shifters next to the stem that make shifting from the tops easy while still being fully aero.

K-Edge bottle cage mounted chain guide

Fresh from the latest Unbound, K-Edge had this neat-looking chain device on display. It is designed to mount from the bottle cage bolts and offers a chain retention solution for bikes without front mech mounting points. With lots of adjustments, it should fit pretty much any gravel bike and TT bike.

Scott Plasma Tri bike

Scott had Magnus Ditlev's Ironman race bike on show, which featured tonnes of the usual Triathlon bike features like large chainrings, aero mech cages, etc, but the handlebar extensions really caught my eye.

They look like polished production items from the side, but up close, it's clear these are a very custom set-up, with more thought to comfort over a longer distance than you'd find on a WorldTour TT set-up.

DARE Velocity Ace limited edition

Some of the riders at Uno-X have been racing the Velocity Ace this year, with all five of their victories coming on this super aero machine. DARE had this version on show in a subtle matt silver and black finish, which is limited to just 50 units available worldwide.

Those of you of a certain age who rode BMX in your youth will undoubtedly remember Haro. The brand recently announced a complete range overhaul that includes these great-looking road and gravel bikes.

Storck Aerfast.5

Storck’s Aerfast.5 is a striking, no-compromise aero bike that caught my eye. The brand says it is the fastest in the world, and with its deep aero forks, head tube, and very fast-looking bar and stem, you can see why.

Passoni Cicloprato gravel bike

I should admit that a Passoni has long been at the top of my ‘If I won the lottery list’ of dream bikes, and the Italian custom masters' latest offering, the Cicloprato, was no exception. With near-endless custom build possibilities and beautiful finishes, they are real head-turners, though if you have to ask how much...

Bulls Mache-Ti 3D printed gravel bike

Bulls is a German brand with an enormous range of normal and electric bikes, and tucked away on its stand was this lovely 3D-printed titanium gravel bike. The brand has made great use of the tech to create a very modern-looking machine and has even gone for a full titanium fork to match too.

Sidi has long been one of the most sought-after shoe brands, though, in recent years, I thought its designs had started to look a bit dated, which, as long time fan, was sad to see. Especially for gravel and MTB though that looks like it is about to change with some great updates and bang-up-to-date color options. Sidi has even taken the ‘gravel is just 90’s mtb to heart with some retro-inspired colorways, too.

Fizik shoes

Fizik shoes at Eurobike

The booming gravel scene really seems to have let designers go wild with colors, and the Tempo Beat shoes from Fizik were no exception.

Schwalbe Clik valve

Schwalbe's Clik valve up close

The humble Presta valve has been unchanged for decades and looked like it was one of the only ‘standards’ to stay around forever, though Schwalbe is looking to change that with its latest 'Clik valve'. It offers a far more secure connection and simpler usage, and handily they screw into existing valves with removable cores.

Mavic had a great range of its latest updated wheels, helmets, and clothing on display, and it had a real feel of resurgence on its stand, which was great to see after some tough times for the historically influential brand.

From cutting-edge race wheels to comfortable all-road options and even a bang-up-to-date rim brake option, the wheel range covers practically all bases. The soft goods looked on-trend with modern cuts and colours laced with well-thought-out tech, too.

Parlee Taos

Parlee has long been known for its custom carbon options, which are still all built in its Massachusetts headquarters. It has just released the Taos, handmade in the EU and offered in fixed sizes. With clearance for 50mm tyres, long, slack geometry, and lots of built-in compliance, it looks like the perfect bike for an adventure.

Hope British Olympic track bike

Hope had the latest Team GB track bike on display, ready for the upcoming Paris Olympics. It's a radical-looking machine with an updated fork featuring a wavy trailing edge and a wild split seatpost design built in conjunction with Lotus and Renishaw.

USE Vybe suspension stem

The British brand USE had the compact and tidy-looking Vybe suspension stem on show. Designed to complement the Vybe suspension seatpost, it offers gravel riders an extra degree of comfort and comes with four different elastomers and adjustable preload so you can tune in your ideal amount of movement.

M-Sport Technik

No Eurobike show would be complete without some form of genre-defying monstrosity, and the guys from M-Sport Technik didn't disappoint with this monster gravel e-MTB trekking drop bar thing.

The fuel tank in a tinted clear coat, as well as the comfort seat in black and gray and the engine bar with silver-colored inserts mean that the Triple Black variant makes an impressive visual statement.

The exclusive Aurelius Green Metallic paintcontrasts elegantly with the gold-colored linework and the “Option 719” badge on the tank cover. The grille on the additional headlights and the black-and-gray comfort seat round out the aesthetic of this variant.

The black radiator cowl bag offers practical storage space for smaller items that you need to access quickly when riding. Here’s how to experience one of the most iconic Tour de France climbs while barely breaking a sweat

Cycling legends have been born on the notorious 21 bends of alpe d’huez, but you don’t need calves like cavendish to enjoy the ride, finds paddy maddison, article bookmarked.

The climb to Alpe d’Huez is challenging for even the best cyclists in the world, but an e-bike makes it more accessible

P erched among the towering mountain peaks of Isère is the resort of Alpe d’Huez. At 1,860m, it’s the third highest in the French Alps , famous for its family-friendly skiing , stunning views and bountiful alpine hiking trails. But when the snow melts away for summer, the mountain begins to attract a different type of tourist.

From early June to late October , the clatter of ski boots on cobblestone is replaced by clicking of cleats and the whoosh of rubber on hot tarmac, as cyclists flock to the area in their thousands.

Over the years, the winding mountain pass leading up to the resort has served as a backdrop for some of the most memorable moments in pro-cycling history. The late, great Marco Pantani famously completed the 13.8km climb in a still-unbeaten time of 37 minutes back in 1995, and it has featured in the Tour de France no less than 32 times.

To cyclists, it’s a sporting landmark akin to Silverstone or Wembley. The key difference is that anyone can come and pit themselves against the iconic 21 hairpin bends.

And I mean anyone.

The 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez are well-known in the cycling world

Katia Lamb is an Alpe d’Huez local who has been running her bike shop, Cycle Huez , for 14 years with her husband Oli. The couple have watched firsthand as the proliferation of e-bikes has made the mountain more accessible.

“People who might have struggled to get up previously are now able to, thanks to e-bikes,” Katia explains. “Maybe you’re an older cyclist, a partner of a keen cyclist, or just someone who wants to explore the area – hopping on an e-bike will allow you to keep pace and enjoy the sights without the effort.”

The Alpe d’Huez climb starts in the town of Bourg d’Oisans and snakes its way up 3,670ft to the resort. Both areas are home to countless ski shops, many of which turn their focus to bike rentals over the summer months. Katia’s shop provides high-end pedal-powered road bikes for those who want to cycle without the help of a battery, but there are lots of other establishments providing motor-assisted options to suit all body types and budgets.

I’m staying in Alpe d’Huez, so I chose to pick my e-bike up from a shop there. This way, I can zip down to Bourg d’Oisans, enjoy the climb at a leisurely pace and drop the bike back when I’m done – no car required. For those staying in Bourg d’Oisans, the opposite approach makes more sense.

The resort of Alpe d’Huez sits 3,670ft above the starting point in Bourg d’Oisans

Just getting down the mountain is a feat in itself. It takes roughly 30 minutes going at a modest pace, but gravity does the hard work. All that’s required of me is to feather the brakes as I roll down through the 21 hairpin bends.

After a quick coffee stop in Bourg d’Oisans, I begin the climb. The first section takes me along a straight, flat section of road. It’s easy to be lulled into a false sense of security, but the scale of the challenge becomes apparent as I take a sharp left and the road ramps up like a wall in front of me. Thankfully, I have my rented e-bike, and as I push harder on the pedals, the motor engages and scoots me on my way with little effort required.

Each of the bends on the way up is clearly numbered, from 21 at the bottom to 0 right before the summit. With stops, you can expect it to take roughly two to three hours to get through them all. The first few are steep and long, with little in the way of views due to tree cover. It’s not until I pass through the village of Le Garde-en-Oisans (home to the last café for 8km) that the trees give way to jaw-dropping mountain vistas, complete with colossal rock faces and soaring snow-capped peaks. These scenes only become more impressive as I continue to gain elevation.

On an e-bike, Paddy found that the route was challenging but required little physical effort

The road surface is beautifully smooth as the route winds its way further up the mountain, the distance between bends gradually decreasing as I approach the village of Huez, roughly 5km from the top. Just before the village is bend 7, known affectionately in the cycling world as ‘Dutch Corner’. During the Tour de France, this 90-degree turn plays host to hundreds of famously booze-fuelled and raucous Dutch fans – a tradition stretching back many decades. On a Tour day, the corner turns orange as the spectators flock together in their national colour to cheer, drink beer, set off flares and even rock the occasional police car.

Today, it’s much quieter as I pass by, which is a pity, as by the time you’ve made it to this point, a bit of fervent encouragement probably wouldn’t go amiss.

Huez Village is situated between bends 6 and 4. It’s a great spot to rest tired legs while soaking in the epic mountain scenery. For those in need of a quick refuel, Maison d’Huez offers hot food, drinks and snacks with outdoor seating and spectacular views. But don’t get too comfortable, as there’s still a good chunk of climbing left to go. For those who can’t muster up the requisite strength to get back on the bike, there’s a free gondola that goes from the village directly up to the main resort.

Reenergised, I leave Huez Village and continue up the mountain. Coming around bend 3 the resort of Alpe d’Huez is visible directly ahead for the first time. The prospect of a post-ride beer now in clear focus, I pick up the pace and weave through the final few turns into town.

The road is usually quiet but will be filled with crowds when the Tour de France passes through

Alpe d’Huez is split into eight areas. Veil-Alpe is the oldest and most characterful of them all, and it’s the first part of town cyclists enter as they reach the end of the climb. It’s home to a number of bustling cyclist-friendly bars, bike shops and the fantastic La Roy Ladre – a cosy little restaurant serving world-class pizzas and French wines with a smile.

Those who wish to complete the official Tour de France Alpe d’Huez route can follow the markings on the road up to the top of Cognet, the northernmost area of town. Don’t forget to snap a picture at the summit and give yourself a pat on the back before heading back down into town for a well-deserved drink.

Where to stay

The Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa is the oldest (and most luxurious) hotel in Alpe d’Huez, often hosting World Tour cycling teams during the Tour de France. Perched on the mountainside, it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, a number of fancy restaurants serving local fare, and secure bike storage. You can even book a sports massage in the spa, as I did, to relieve your tired legs.

The hotel is situated centrally within the resort, so it’s conveniently placed for picking a bike up from one of the many local hire shops. I opted for an electric mountain bike from Richard 3 Sports, but there are hybrid and road options available too.

Health & wellbeing.

If you’re looking for something less lavish, there are plenty of reasonably priced self-catered apartments in the area too.

How to get there

The closest airport is Grenoble, which is an hour and a half’s drive away from Alpe d’Huez. Your best bet is to head there and pick up a hire car or book a transfer with one of the many local operators. If you can’t get to Grenoble from your local airport, you can also fly to Lyon or Geneva.

There’s also the option to hop on the Eurostar from London to Lille and grab a connection to Chambery. From there it’s roughly a two-hour transfer by car or coach to Alpe d’Huez.

Eurobike 2024: True Momentum for the Global Bike and Ecomobility Industry

Industry confident: Consolidation at a high level – Bike as major economic factor – Eurobike most important platform for bike and Ecomobility world – Program delights bike fans on the festival weekend

Frankfurt am Main – For the third time and on five consecutive show days, Eurobike – the world's largest platform for the bike and ecomobility world – invited visitors to the Frankfurt trade show grounds. The overall 32 nd edition of this leading trade show delighted 35,080 trade visitors (2023: 34,750) and additional 33,090 bike fans (2023: 31,840) over the weekend, thanks to its huge variety of product innovations, the industry's spirit – including test possibilities – and the extensive technical and festival program.

At the Frankfurt summit, after the recent, rather turbulent months, the bike and ecomobility industry sees itself back in calmer waters and looks optimistically into the upcoming years. "In times of economic tension, stability is the new growth. Thus, we are strengthening our position and creating a foundation for the future where the market picks up again," says Stefan Reisinger, Managing Director of fairnamic GmbH, the Eurobike organizer, when summing up the positive mood at the trade show.

Manuel Marsilio, Managing Director of CONEBI, the European industry association, sees the industry at a turning point. "Even if the economic figures are not satisfactory, we are experiencing a reset in the bike sector. The market will grow again and there will be a thriving bike future."

While the market is cautiously optimistic, the mood among the more than 1,800 exhibiting companies was extremely positive. Arriving from more than 60 countries, they presented their novelties in eight halls and the huge outdoor area, encompassing 150,000 square meters.

Dr. Sandra Wolf, Managing Partner at Riese & Müller, summarizes: "We are impressed – by the continued interest of people in the bike itself, the commitment of our dealers and the positive mood of this trade show. Our trade show presence is a clear commitment to Eurobike. As the leading trade show, Eurobike sends out a powerful and confident message for cycling culture and the bike industry, as a whole."

A wide range of product topics delight the expert audience

For the time being, many manufacturers focus on the continuous further development and refinement of the technology and their products. In addition to the e-bike boom factor, the gravel bike's sporty success guarantee as well as corresponding parts, components, accessories, clothing, equipment, support and services, the Ecomobility Experience Gallery addressed many interested parties from companies and municipalities who want to modernize their fleets with new electric vehicles.

Supplemented by a stage program specially designed for focus topics and trade show tours for designated product highlights, the Cargo Bike, Start-up and Sports & Performance exhibition areas featured specialist exhibitor clusters, thus catering to the goal of better addressing specific target groups. For the first time, the Handmade subject excelled with roundabout 30 exhibitors presenting their individual frame designs and particularly artistic accessories.

The trade audience was enthusiastic about the third Frankfurt edition of Eurobike and with 35% non-European participants, way more international than ever. 95% said that they were satisfied with the achievement of their trade show visit goals.

Top-class conference program on the future of mobility

This year, with new partnerships and focus topics, the comprehensive conference and network program was once again significantly expanded for the three trade visitor days. Thanks to the promising motto of "Hello Future. Hello Transformation" and in conjunction with the Innovation, Digitalization, Sustainability, Inspiration, Retail and People theme tracks, 14 specialist conferences and countless networking events fueled inspiration and exchange. For the first time, the entire program was curated in close coordination with the European and German industry associations. In addition to innovations and digitization, the focus topics were future strategies for cycling.

"For a transport system that wants to give its citizens real freedom of choice, cycling is an important piece of the puzzle. Eurobike underscores the huge variety and vast potential of "what is possible with the bike", "says Kaweh Mansoori, Hessian Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas as well as Deputy Prime Minister, happily at the start of the trade show.

Discovering new products and trying them out

At the weekend, after three specialist audience days with novelty presentations, media appointments and networking events, the trade show gates opened for the bike-enthusiastic public. Here, bike and mobility fans learned more about the topics and trends of the bike world, tested the new vehicles on thousands of test drives, were inspired by travel lectures and cheered on the BMX professionals of the Skyline Ride and the road bikers at the Bembel Crit. The Virtual Hero e-cycling competition celebrated its premiere and - during the Eurobike Festival Days - the final of which was held on roller trainers after preliminary rounds&decisions at various spring events. Moreover, special focus was placed on families in the festival program. With a huge variety of offers for children and parents, the topics of bike/cycling and mobility were dynamically depicted.

"With the expansion of our festival activities and the corresponding PR measures upfront, we were able to welcome even more bike enthusiasts to the Eurobike this year," says Dirk Heidrich, Eurobike Project Manager, delightedly. "For us it is a big success! After all, it is the cyclists themselves who are bringing the mobility turnaround onto the road."

Eurobike 2025

The 33 rd Eurobike will take place on the grounds of the Frankfurt trade show from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday, June 29, 2025. "While this year, we had to compete with the European Soccer Championships, the US national holiday and other major events, such as the Tour de France, in 2025, we will return to our established June event slot," explains Stefan Reisinger on behalf of the show organizers.

Just as in previous years, in 2025, the trade fair days from Wednesday to Friday will be reserved for trade visitors, and, over the weekend, the Festival Days will be open to all interested visitors.

Travis Kelce Rides Bike in Amsterdam Ahead of Girlfriend Taylor Swift’s Final Eras Tour Show in the City

The Super Bowl champ and the Grammy winner were also spotted sharing a sweet moment after Swift's Friday concert

motorbike tour europe

Travis Kelce is enjoying all that Amsterdam has to offer!

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, was spotted bicycling through the city — which is the latest stop on his girlfriend Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour and — amid some down time on Saturday, July 6.

Footage that PEOPLE captured of Kelce show him walking alongside a black bike on a sidewalk in the city's Canal District alongside a friend.

Mark Gray for PEOPLE

At one point, the NFL star could be seen getting on the bike and riding it as he and his friend passed by busy pubs attended by local soccer fans in orange getting ready to cheer on the Netherlands in the Euro 2024.

He wore casual clothing for the outing, with a white T-shirt, green cargo shorts and green-gray hat. He seemed to be in high spirits as he took the trek around the city despite some heavy winds.

The Super Bowl champion is in town for the weekend to support the “Fortnight” singer, 34, who has three shows at the city’s Johan Cruijff Arena scheduled for July 4 through July 6.

Kelce was spotted on the second night of the Amsterdam concerts sitting in what appeared to be a suite as his girlfriend performed.

In several clips posted on TikTok, the athlete sat in the audience holding a beverage and posed with fans for photos . One fan account recalled, "He was in a suite the whole show!!"

He was also seen heading backstage sometimes during the concert, as seen in a clip posted on TikTok . Fans could be seen cheering as he walked by and waved, as one fan excitedly shouted, "It's Travis!"

His appearance at the show even led Swift to once again make a lyric change in her song "Karma" to reference him. She was videoed singing on stage, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me," which she sings whenever he's in attendance.

Later that evening, the musician and football player were captured leaving the backstage area at the end of the show together. A clip showed Kelce encouraging the crowd's cheers before putting his arm around his girlfriend and planting a sweet kiss on her head.

Swift and Kelce first sparked dating rumors in September 2023, when the 14-time Grammy winner attended a Kansas City Chiefs games, before going public with their romance a month later.

Since then, the pair has supported one another in their respective careers on multiple occasions, with Swift attending more than a dozen of Kelce's NFL games , including the 2024 Super Bowl in February .

Swift is next scheduled to perform in Switzerland and several other European cities before capping off the European leg of her tour back in London and then heading back stateside to perform more Eras Tour shows.

Norwegian cyclist Andre Drege dies in crash at Tour of Austria

  • Copy Link copied

VIENNA, Austria (AP) — Norwegian cyclist Andre Drege has died after a crash during the Tour of Austria, his team, race organizers and the International Cycling Union said on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Team Coop-Repsol rider crashed in a downhill and suffered fatal injuries, race organizers said.

“Andre crashed and sustained severe injuries,” race organizers said in a statement on social media. “Our entire team is devastated by this tragic accident.”

According to race organizers, the rider from the Coop Repsol team crashed on the descent from the Grossglockner mountain. Details about the accident have yet to emerge.

“The UCI is devastated to learn of the death of professional cyclist Andre Drege at the Tour of Austria,” the UCI said on X. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates.”

The penultimate stage from St. Johann over the Grossglockner to Kals in East Tyrol was won by Italian Filippo Ganna. The victory ceremony was canceled.

It was unsure whether Sunday’s final stage will take place.

Tributes from teams competing at the Tour de France poured in after the news of Drege’s death reached cycling’s biggest race.

“It’s hard to process what happened, we are all quite in shock,” Tour de France leader Tadej Pogacar said. “This is very sad to hear. My condolences go to his family, teammates and all his loved ones. In the cycling world, we need to take care of each other.”

Drege is the latest pro rider to die in competition after Swiss cyclist Gino Mäder last year at the Tour de Suisse.

Belgian rider Wouter Weylandt was killed in a crash on a descent at the Giro d’Italia in May 2011. Another Belgian rider, Antoine Demoitié, died after crashing at the one-day Gent-Wevelgem race in March 2016.
