Explore iconic London's top sightseeing destinations

The Original London Bike Tour is a family-friendly journey through London’s East End, with the added benefit of bike rental. Since 1991, visitors have ventured out from Lambeth and along the banks of the River Thames, passing the world renowned Tate Modern Art Gallery as they head toward Shakespeare’s own New Globe Theatre. The contrast between its Elizabethan architecture and the Victorian Bankside Power Station is striking, but this is not the only unexpected sight to be seen along the tour - you'll also witness Borough Market, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Dockyards, Blackfriars Bridge, and St. Paul's Cathedral.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is a reconstruction of the famous Elizabethan playhouse designed by England's eminent playwright - the Globe was the ultimate arena for performances of Shakespeare's masterpieces. Admire its of-the-time beamed exterior and feel inspired by the artistic atmosphere. Biking on to Borough Market, your efforts will be rewarded with some of the city's best street food and local produce in one of London's oldest and largest food markets. It couldn't be much more at odds with the monumental skyscrapers that tower over the Thames from the north, but London is a city of dramatic contrasts.

As you ride across Tower Bridge, you’ll be able to see some of Foster’s most brilliant architecture from the past century. Your guide will lead you on to a view of the infamous Tower of London, where many a sorry prisoner saw out a dark and gloomy sentence. More food follows, with a stop at the Captain Kidd, a waterfront pub nestled amongst the Dockyard's maze of warehouses, atmospheric alleyways and cobbled streets.

Your bicycle tour begins to journey back westward at this point, riding through the more contemporary business districts including the Square Mile, and the archaic bedrock institutions of Lloyd's, the Royal Exchange, and Mansion House. Before returning to Lambeth across the commanding Blackfriars Bridge, you'll pass under the majestic St. Paul's Cathedral, one of London's proudest landmarks, where, each year, millions flock to discover the majesty within the exquisite white exterior.

Why a bike tour is the best way to discover London

There’s something about the freedom of being on a bike - the wind in your hair, diving off into tiny back streets and getting to experience the place like a true Londoner.   Faster than walking, a bike allows you a leisurely pace but you can still cover a lot of ground.

My British-made red bikes are comfortable and really easy to ride.  My tour follows safe routes through quiet back streets and parks, avoiding busy areas wherever possible.  So even if you haven't been on a bike in a while, you'll be fine.

The Royal Parks are often referred to as the lungs of London, so we will make sure that you breath in fresh air and fascinating facts throughout our tour.  You will take in Royal Palaces and world-famous sites with ease and peddle away from them feeling like an expert in all things London. We do not simply see things on our tours; we aim to leave you with an understanding of them that goes beyond the usual basic explanations.

From our office mere moments away from Waterloo Station, we are able to utilize designated cycle lanes and the parks system to keep our guests safe and entertained from the get-go, and with cycle options for any age, we pride ourselves on offering great experiences for the whole family.

Halfway through the tour, we’ll take a break at a picturesque café in Hyde Park, where you’ll be free to grab some lunch, enjoy a beer or just find a lakeside bench and watch the world go by. Your guide will be available throughout the lunch break to answer any questions you may have.  The small group aspect of this tour makes it great for connecting with your guide and other guests.

Meeting Point

This tour meets at our office, located at 135a Mepham Street, London SE1 8SQ . If exiting Waterloo station, you can look for exit 2, then make a left out of the exit followed by your first left onto Mepham Street.  You will then see our office across the street.

You can also exit Waterloo station from exit 5, then come down the stairs, turn right at the KFC and walk for about 1 minute.

Questions about our bikes/biking in london, is this tour appropriate for children.

Absolutely! We have loads of families and we’re a great family activity. We offer multiple bike options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability. Please keep in mind that children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

• For children up to 12 years old or 45kg (100lbs) without good bike handling skills we offer 2-wheeled tandems that allow the passenger to pedal or coast, without having to maintain a high level of balance. All riders over 45kg (100lbs) must ride their own bicycle. We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm). Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability.
• There is no additional charge for tandems or baby seats. Due to limited availability, please book baby seats, tandems, 20” and 24” wheeled bikes in advance. We do NOT have toddler trailers. 
• Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with both hand brakes.
• Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.

Do you have children's bikes?

Yes! You can see all of our options  here . We have kids bikes, tag-alongs and baby seats. Please make a reservation online if you have children in your group and let us know how many are with you, and their ages, in the NOTES section of your reservation – this way we can make sure we have the right sized bikes set aside for everyone in your group.

Is a helmet included?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.

Do I need to reserve a bike separately?

No – the bike is included with the bike tour, so just bring yourself and we will take care of the rest!

Can I bring my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. Our insurance only covers the theft of our own bicycles, so please do bring your own lock should we have a longer stop.

Do you rent bikes?

Yes!  Please reserve ahead of time via our London Bike Rentals page so that we can prepare your bike(s).

Can you suggest a bicycle repair shop in London?

Our very excellent mechanic, Alex, is available to work on your bike! Feel free to  get in contact with us  if you need some expert bike assistance.

Yes, reservations are required for all tours.

What is your cancellation policy?

We’re happy to offer free changes and 100% refund up to 24 hours before tour* Failure to cancel a reservation  at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure  may result in forfeited travel funds. Fare difference may apply.

Where is the tour meeting point?

This tour meets at our office, located at 135a Mepham Street, London SE1 8SQ, our office is very easy to find from the Waterloo station.  From Waterloo, look for exit 2, then make a left out of the exit followed by your first left onto Mepham Street.  You will then see our office across the street.

Is the tour difficult?

No. Most of the time is spent on bike lanes within the Royal Parks. There is a bit of road riding and a few crossings so a basic level of cycling proficiency is required.

Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. We usually stop at Serpentine café where there are plenty of options for lunch.  Your guide will point out various places that range from sandwiches to traditional pub fare so that you can choose the best option for your group.

Where does the tour end?

All cycle tours end at our Waterloo office location , which is just a minute away from the Waterloo station. Your guide is happy to give you directions to your next point of interest following the tour!

What's the difference between the London Express Highlights Tour and Royal London Bike Tour?

We’ll have the opportunity to cover a bit more ground on our Royal London Bike Tour.  In about 4 hours, you will see the main sites of London and have time for a brief lunch or snack depending on your tour time.  Our Express Highlights Tour is closer to 2 hours, and while you’ll still see the main sites of London, we won’t cover as much.  You will have the same great local guides for both, so it’s really up to you and how much time you have to discover the city by bike!

Will we enter the museums and monuments that we see?

Unfortunately, we won’t have enough time during this tour to allow everyone to enter the various museums. We will, however, provide you with the best information to go back and see the places that interest you most following the tour.  This tour is designed to experience the city from a broad perspective.

All of our tours operate rain or shine, and we have rain ponchos available in our office for purchase.

Y es! We will have our Royal London Bike Tour available on various days throughout the year starting at 10:30am.  In the summer months, we’ll add an afternoon tour at 2:30pm.
