Dota 2: 2023 DPC Tour 2 Division I Overview – Western Europe, Eastern Europe & North America

Dota 2: 2023 DPC Tour 2 Division I Overview – Western Europe, Eastern Europe & North America

We take a look at what we can expect to see from Europe and North America in Division I of the DPC 2023.

The end of The Lima Major 2023 meant that Tour 1 of the 2023 DPC was officially over. In other words, it’s time to focus on the Tour 2 of the DPC because it will begin in just a couple of days from now.

As expected, Valve gave us access to the newest Dota 2 patch 7.23e, which features loads of hero changes. Speaking of the devil, you can check some of the biggest winners of the new patch. In addition to hero changes, The Dead Reckoning Update also gave us access to a new hero, new items, special features, and so on.

The best Dota 2 players are playing as many PUB games as possible to learn more about the new patch because Tour 2 of the DPC starts in just 3 days from now. We’ll have the chance to watch the best teams and players in the world, so let’s learn more about some of them.

An important thing to remember is that Tour 2 will be the same as Tour 1 in terms of the Divisions. In other words, we’ll have access to the matches from Division I before those from Division II.

  • 1 Western Europe
  • 3 Eastern Europe
  • 5 North America

Western Europe

SECOND SEASON TEAM BUNDLE It is up to @valvesoftware to decide which voices will be included in our bundle, but if you could choose three of them, which ones would you choose? #Dota2 pic.twitter.com/qMxNFZqhAU — GG | Gaimin Gladiators ⚔️ (@GaiminGladiator) March 9, 2023

Starting with the strongest Dota 2 region in the world, there is no arguing that Western Europe is in a league of its own. The best teams have had almost no competition from the other parts of the world, and The Lima Major 2023 has proven it. Although Talon Esports did well, in the end, GG and Team Liquid had to play in the final. Needless to say, both of them are from Western Europe.

Following Team Secret’s dreadful performance in Tour 1, the team failed to secure its slot among the best in the region. However, the lineup in Division I is pretty solid because it consists of the following names:

  • Team Liquid
  • Tundra Esports
  • Gaimin Gladiators
  • Ooredoo Thunders
  • Nigma Galaxy

The action in Western Europe’s Division I starts on March 13 and will last until April 2.

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that Gaimin Gladiators is the big favorite here because the team just won The Lima Major 2023. Moreover, it had almost no problems doing it and even defeated Team Liquid twice.

Speaking of the devil, Team Liquid is the 2nd contender for a slot in the second Major. Nisha and the rest were almost flawless during the Major, but the team lost 2 times against GG.

OG, Tundra, Entity and Nigma Galaxy are also going to give everything they have to secure a slot for the second Major. Every team has what it takes to go there, so we can’t wait to see what will happen.

Eastern Europe

The final vlog of Team Spirit Dota 2 roster. In this episode, we will show the game vs Talon Esports, the discussion of the maps, and the results of the team's performance at the Lima Major 2023. 👇 https://t.co/812A9f11qd ENG SUBS pic.twitter.com/hATnSEjnJs — Team Spirit (@Team__Spirit) March 8, 2023

Following Team Spirit’s dominant performance at TI 10, it seems like the best Eastern European teams are struggling to show their prowess. BetBoom looked very promising prior to The Lima Major 2023, and so did Team Spirit. However, neither lived up to the expectations because they were eliminated early on.

With that said, Tour 2 of the Eastern Europe 2023 DPC will look even more interesting because we have 2 new additions. In fact, here are all of the teams that will take part in the competition:

  • Team Spirit
  • HellRaisers
  • BetBoom Team
  • Natus Vincere

If you want to watch the best Eastern European squads in action, tune in on March 12. If everything goes according to plan, the matches in Division I should end on April 2.

Judging from the results at The Lima Major, there is no arguing that Team Spirit is the best Dota 2 team here. Sure, Yatoro and the rest couldn’t win, but they did better than every other team from EEU.

BetBoom Team had hardly any problems during Tour 1, so they will be one of the names we’ll keep an eye on. However, teams like HelllRaisers, Darkside, and even Virtus.Pro will be more than happy to steal the Major slot from them. Speaking of slots, EEU will have 3 of them for the second Major.

Interestingly, Natus Vincere is also back among the best teams in Eastern Europe after it was relegated to Division II. Malik and the rest secured a slot in Div1 alongside HYDRA, which will be another exciting name we’ll keep an eye on.

North America

Proud of the boys for their Top 4 debut at a Dota Major under new banner. Great start to the year with so much potential to grow 💚 Thanks for hosting us Peru! 🇵🇪 #LimaMajor pic.twitter.com/eDIGG953fL — Shopify Rebellion (@ShopifyRebels) March 5, 2023

Widely regarded as the least interesting Dota 2 region, Tour 2 in North America definitely looks promising. While it’s true that the Tour 1 winner TSM didn’t live up to the expectations in Lima, Shopify Rebellion won several big series. Hence, the team showed that NA is not dead yet.

In terms of the teams that we’ll have the chance to watch, Tour 2 of the DPC in North America will give us access to the following:

  • 5RATFORCESTAFF
  • Shopify Rebellion
  • Wildcard Gaming
  • Team DogChamp

If you’re interested in watching the best North American Dota 2 teams in the world, you can do that between March 13 and April 2. Of course, we will provide you with daily recaps of everything that happened.

It probably doesn’t surprise that Shopify Rebellion and TSM are the two big favorites in North America. Both teams had little to no competition in Tour 1, and we don’t expect to see any changes this time around.

However, one team may upset TSM and SR’s plans, and its name is nouns. The latter has a talented roster that almost secured a slot for The Lima Major 2023. Needless to say, we expected Gunnar and the rest to step up their game and achieve their goal this time around.

Those of you who won’t have the chance to watch Tour 2 of the 2023 DPC don’t need to worry because we’ll cover everything. Also, don’t forget we have some of the best Dota 2 betting websites where you can punt on the upcoming Tour 2 and many other events.

The EPT Regional Rankings

All DOTA 2 teams split per region at one view.

WEST EUROPE

North america, east europe, south america, south east asia, middle east & north africa, how this works.

For a detailed explanation on how the slots are determined for our qualifiers and other important information, please refer to our rulebook.

We’ve built an Elo based ranking system for regions, with a baseline of one secured slot per region.

Regions with higher Elo scores can earn additional slots, which are distributed within that region according to teams’ ranking placement, based on the table above.

The points teams earn at each tournament maintain full value for 16 weeks, and by 36 weeks these points will have completely decayed. Each team's points will decay over time after 16 weeks, and any roster changes will incur a point deduction.

The table you see above shows the EPT Ranking for teams, regional rankings where each teams score is based on their performance in recent tournaments.

Sound simple? It's not.

If you’re interested in the intricacies of our new rankings system, here’s a deep dive:.

The seven Regional Rankings tables above will be the primary way for teams to be invited to all of the events in the ESL Pro Tour, alongside qualifiers if they are held, although there won't be any qualifiers for season 1 of the EPT.

All EFG events will ensure that there is a minimum of one team per region at each event. Additional teams will be added per region by measuring the strength of each region in any previous events that included multiple regions. To this point, even prestigious events may be omitted from the rankings process, like the ESL One Stockholm Major, due to the absence of Chinese teams at that event.

For EFG competitions with more than 13 participants, a second slot will be assigned to each region as long as a team from the region has reached at least Top 12 in one of the last two pertinent competitions — if any region has failed to do so, they will only receive one guaranteed slot.

For any additional slots not assigned to regions or teams through other circumstances, the regional Elo rating will be used to determine the amount of slots for each region. The order of the teams will be decided by the results based EPT Ranking table shown above.

Each region has an Elo rating.

Regional Elo will decay over time, and the uncertainty will increase in the time immediately following major gameplay patches, causing scores to fluctuate more dramatically.

For each additional slot in a tournament, the region with the best Elo score will receive the slot. After a region is awarded a slot at the tournament, the next best team from that region still included in the calculation will be removed after receiving the slot, the region's score recalculated, and the next spot assigned to a team through the same process. It is important to note that the removed team will be replaced by the next best rated team from that region. These steps will be repeated until all slots have been assigned to their respective regions.

Teams with scheduled matches in valve-sanctioned competitions during the tournament dates are ineligible to be invited to DreamLeague or EPT events.

By default, for each region with 2 teams invited, it will exclude the best teams' results from its outcomes — this is to ensure that one good team is unable to earn its region a disproportionate number of slots. If a region only receives one slot through the above process, then the best teams' result will be included.

Once the slots for each region have been assigned, invites will be awarded to the teams in order of their position in each regional ranking.

Should a team decline an invitation, the invite will move down that region's rankings to the next eligible team.

We want to recognise the premier events on the calendar as being more significant to the teams reputation and standing in the community, therefore the points from The International 2022, Riyadh Masters 2023 & The International 2023 will have a longer period of maintaining their full value than other events such as DreamLeague or any Majors.

We discount the best team in each region from the slot allocation so that one team can't earn their region a disproportionate amount of slots, especially as their invite to the event is already secured through the baseline of 1 slot per region.

Instead, we look at the results of the second and third best teams in the region — currently, WEU fields the most competitive line-up of teams, so until slots are assigned to teams on the level of OG, Entity, Tundra etc., it will retain that position at the top.

Because  WEU is so strong, the second best teams in other regions are rated comparatively weaker. So if they're going to earn more slots, the second and third best teams need to take games and series off of the top teams.

All signs point to the ‘dota 2’ crownfall update launching tomorrow.

Dota fans have figured out when Crownfall launches.

After months of waiting it seems that the Dota 2 Crownfall patch will launch tomorrow, April 17, with a couple of theories seemingly coming true.

The main factor in people thinking the release date is coming tomorrow is that Dota 2 caster Robson "TeaGuvnor" Merritt has announced the start of his waiting room stream. It kicks off on April 17 at 1 pm BST, and he will be farming mangoes in a custom-built Dota 2 -themed Stardew Valley farm until the patch releases.

While TeaGuvnor has a history of doing long endurance streams while waiting for a patch, it’s rare that he goes over the 24-hour mark, and he always seems to be accurate when it comes to starting on the right day of the patch. So, if history is anything to go by, we can expect the patch before everyone wakes up on Thursday morning.

The other factor that adds weight to the idea that the Dota 2 Crownfall update will be released tomorrow is that it is World Circus Day. With any other patch, this would just be a coincidence, but the new Dota 2 hero Ringmaster is clearly a fan of the circus and releasing him on World Circus Day feels very fitting.

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

In terms of exactly when the patch will be released, we only have past history to go on. Typically patches are released in the evening Eastern time, but with the timing lining up with World Circus Day there may be a chance it releases slightly earlier in the day, as you would hope Valve would have everything prepared well in advance.

Of course, we could be in for a slightly longer wait, as many people predicted April 18 as the release date thanks to many of the recent patches launching on a Thursday. However, the synergy with World Circus Day seems too good to pass up, so tomorrow seems much more likely.

The Crownfall patch for Dota 2 is expected to be the biggest in a year, bringing with it the new hero Ringmaster, some fancy new cosmetics including arcanas, and a whole host of balance and map changes to shake the game up. We haven’t had a truly massive patch in months, so it is about time that Dota gets some sweeping changes, with many fans expecting this patch to change every hero in one way or another and introduce some new mechanics like the 7.33 patch did last year.

Crownfall update dota 2

Dota 2 players stuck in Crownfall waiting room as Valve drops Ascension Day comic tease

Image of Gökhan Çakır

Dota 2 players are becoming restless while waiting for the Crownfall patch. Promised for 2024’s first quarter, Crownfall’s arrival has been a rollercoaster of anticipation and delay. After teasing a mid-April release, Valve posted a blog today and sent shivers down eager spines—only to reveal a 118-page comic.

Featuring the Dark Skywrath Mage and the Vengeful Spirit with wings as Arcana skins, the comic undeniably amped up the hype for the upcoming patch. However, some Dota 2 players expressed frustration, fearing Valve might be leveraging the lore dump to postpone Crownfall yet again.

A scene from a Dota 2 comic featuring a large cliff with a city built into it, and the moon and a shooting star above.

Beneath the fantastical artwork and lore nuggets, the comic might have subtly hinted at Crownfall’s arrival with its title “Ascension Date.” A quick web search reveals a corresponding date: May 9, a Thursday, which conveniently aligns with Valve’s usual patch release schedule. Patience might be wearing thin, but the cryptic clues and Valve’s historical release patterns suggest the wait might finally be nearing its end.

It’s also worth noting Dota 2 comics are a rare treat. The last one graced the community in 2023 with Muerta’s release, and earlier ones date back to 2020 and 2018. Patches that follow comic releases often turn out to be colossal both in terms of content and changes. Considering Dota 2 hasn’t received a major patch in 2024, this one is expected to shake the game to its cores.

If the patch actually drops on May 9, that would also mean that ESL One Birmingham would be played in the current patch while PGL Wallachia would played in a new patch as it begins on May 10. The gameplay elements that are expected to change in the new patch are currently unknown, but it’s quite likely for professional players to rock some of the new cosmetics if they ever make it into the game in time.
