Explore the RAMSAR wetlands site of Walvis Bay Lagoon teeming with birdlife; summit the mighty Dune 7 for an amazing 360-degree view of the dunes, the desert and the Atlantic Ocean; explore the eerie Lunar Landscape behind the dunes; enjoy a convivial luncheon in Swakopmund and visit the town's curio markets, craft shops, art galleries, museums and beachfront.

‍ 09H00 Passengers are picked up from the ship and board onto private 4x4 vehicle 09h30 Visit Dune 7 where you can either do an activity with their activity centre or challenge yourself by climbing the highest dune in the area. Thereafter you will make your way to Moon Landscape where you will have a chance to explore the area. (the extra activity cost will be for your own account) 12H00 Head to Swakopmund, and do a brief Swakopmund City Tour with your guide 13H00 You will be transferred to a local restaurant where you can have coffee and cake or a light lunch (the extra meal cost will be for your own account) 14H30 Drive back to Walvis Bay and visit the Walvis Bay Lagoon 16H00 You will be transferred back to the ship in time for boarding

‍ Sandwich Harbour, part of the Namib-Naukluft Park, is a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes just waiting to be discovered! Guides will keep clients preferences in mind when driving through the dunes as some might enjoy a real off-road experience while others might only want to cruise. Zeila Shipwreck, Cape Cross Seal Colony & Dead Sea Full Day Tour

‍ From your cruise ship you follow the road north toward Henties Bay, passing the Zeila Shipwreck along the way. Further on the journey takes you to Cape Cross to visit the cape fur seals and the surrounding area. Also visit Namibia’s very own "dead sea".

Kayaking and Sandwich Harbour Combo

This combo combines the Pelican Point Kayaking Tour with an excursion to Sandwich Harbour. After your kayaking excursion you will head back to the Walvis Bay Waterfront where a 4x4 vehicle will collect you to take you on a Sandwich Harbour 4x4 Excursion into the Namib-Naukluft Park. The journey takes you through the Kuiseb river delta, a dry riverbed where the odd springbok can be seen. We cross beautiful dunes, including our famous slingshot and roaring dune. If the tides allow, you can access the Sandwich Harbour lagoon along the beach, or we see the lagoon from one of the many beautiful lookout spots. Sandwich Harbour, part of the Namib Naukluft Park, is a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. The lagoon, salt pans and the bird sanctuary, which form the Walvis Bay Wetlands, are rightly heralded as the single most important coastal wetlands of Southern Africa. It is one of five Ramsar sites in Namibia. Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered!

Sandwich Harbour, a little less than 60km south of Walvis Bay in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, is one of Namibia’s most unique and dramatic sites. Here some of the world’s highest dunes descent into the cold Atlantic Ocean to form a picturesque lagoon.

Once a commercial fishing and trading port, Sandwich Harbour is now a RAMSAR site (Site no. 743) with magnificent wetland wilderness and devoid of any human settlement. Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, this is one of Namibia's most important coastal wetlands, and is home to eight endangered species among the large numbers of wading birds.

Early evidence of human life is preserved, and the site includes several archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. In this extremely arid environment, early inhabitants were all hunter-gatherers who survived near fresh water and from hunting various small animals and collecting fruits, bulbs and melons including the famous !nara melon. Closer to the ocean, onwards from about 2,000 years ago, archeological sites contain mussel and marine shells indicating that seafood became an important element of substance for early coastal dwellers. There is further evidence that seals, sea birds and even the odd whale -dead and washed on-shore – added diversity to hunter-gatherer diet. For the last 1,000 years inhabitants of this unique area are pastoralists.

JP and his team were waiting for us as we disembarked, we climbed into the 4X4s and off we went! The dunes were amazing, and driving up and down them was so much fun. Waterproof clothing was providesmd which was great as it was a bit cooler than we were expecting. Tour was both informative and fun. Snacks after the kayak was well received. Seals were really interactive and amazing to see. We then transferred over to a very comfortable vehicle expertly driven by JP as we moved onto the Dunes and sandwich habour. Again a very informative and extremely fun tour. JP is an excellent guide, he made sure we got the best views. Lunch and bubbles at the top of the Dunes- perfect. • fashberry 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Skip the cruise excursions - just go straight to Red Dune Safaris We did a private tour with JP because the shore excursions on our cruise sold out so fast but we were so happy that that situation forced us to look for another option because the experience we had with him was so much better than what we could have had through the cruise line. Even when NCL made a last-minute itinerary change on us, JP was able to accommodate our needs and get us back to the ship on time while still showing us way more than any of the NCL excursions would have. JP was really knowledgeable, obviously passionate about what he does and gave us a really good time. It was fun driving up and down the sand dunes - almost like a rollercoaster - and JP took us to where we'd get the best pictures. He pointed out things we never would have seen on our own, like how some areas of the sand are made from tiny gemstones (garnet, citrine, topaz, etc.) and showed us how to take a picture of it to be able to see the stones. We had some bad luck with the weather (rainy and foggy for parts of the day) but we still got lots of wildlife shots. Plus, even a private tour (which was longer than any of the shore excursions) cost less than it would have if we had gone through NCL and we got way more out of it. JP was extremely knowledgable, friendly and made sure everyone was relaxed. Highlights included the amazing views, beach fossils and very good food. We were met near the Flamingo Lagoon and briefed on the area and outlay of the afternoon tour. Walvis bay shore excursion, duration: 5 - 7 hours price: nad2300.00 per person (min 2pax) port pickup/drop-off available at check-out, discover the arid and ancient landscape of namibia, its geology and its flora. then enjoy a cold drink at goanikontes oasis before heading towards the old colonial town of swakopmund., highlights:, see the flamingos, climb dune 7 (entry to dune 7 is not included in the price), learn about the ancient welwitschiabilis mirabilis plant, see the moon landscape, visit the goanikontes oasis situated in the middle of the desert  ( enjoy lunch here at your own cost), see the bustling streets of swakopmund, after meeting you at the cruise ship terminal and a quick briefing, you will e whisked away for a wonderful day out and about., the first stop will be at the walvis bay lagoon to view the thousands of greater and lesser flamingo who calls this their home., then its over to dune 7, its the highest dune in the walvis bay district at approx 130 meters tall. kick off your shoes and see how high you can climb up and enjoy the view from the top, next we drive for approx. 30mins to reach the welwitschia plains, its a area that is littered with these ancient plants and your guide will give you all the necessary info on this plant that you may need ., after a photo stop, you will be taken to goanikontes oasis where you will have some time to relax with a cold drink under the shade of palm trees( drinks at own cost)., from the oasis we head towards the old colonials town of swakopmund, where you have some free time to wander the streets in search of that perfect gift, or just to absorb the local culture., from here we take the coastal road back to your cruise ship to conclude your day., your guide will co ordinate stopping times as the day progresses and will allow for ample stops to stretch legs and take photos., please note that we only supply bottled water for this tour, so pack something light to eat,or you could have something to eat at the oasis or in swakopmund.
