Who has the most career wins on the PGA Tour ? Let's examine the five winningest golfers in PGA Tour history and their incredible trophy cases.

Tiger Woods , 82 WINS

With a victory at the Zozo Championship on Oct. 27, 2019, Woods won his 82nd PGA Tour victory, tying the record held by Sam Snead. His first PGA Tour win came 23 years earlier, on Oct. 6, 1996, at the Las Vegas Invitational. In Woods' fifth start as a pro, he beat Davis Love III in a sudden-death playoff. Woods holds the record for most consecutive weeks as the No. 1 golfer in the world and the record for most total weeks at No. 1. Woods is an 11-time PGA Player of the Year, which is also a record. He won 15 major championships, trailing only Jack Nicklaus' 18. Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021. For more on Woods' decades-long dominance, check out this breakdown of his PGA Tour victories .

Sam Snead , 82 WINS

Snead's longevity was extremely impressive, as his career spanned 30 years and he competed well into his 60s. In the 1965 Greater Greensboro Open, the 52-year-old became the oldest golfer to win a PGA Tour tournament -- a record he still holds today. Snead won 82 PGA Tour events and seven majors. He was the PGA Golfer of the Year in 1949 and a three-time PGA Tour money list winner. He earned the PGA Tour's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Jack Nicklaus , 73 WINS

Jack Nicklaus was widely regarded as the greatest golfer in the world during the 1960s and 1970s. He continued winning majors in the 1980s - with his final victory coming at 46 years old. Nicklaus holds the record for most major championships (18) and most Masters (six), and he's tied for the most PGA Championships (five) and U.S. Opens (four). "The Golden Bear" also finished as a runner-up 19 times in majors. From 1970 to 1979, Nicklaus never finished worse than eighth at the Masters. In 44 majors over that span, he missed just one cut. Nicklaus was a five-time PGA Player of the Year and the PGA Tour's money list winner 8 times. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Ben Hogan , 64 WINS

Hogan won nine majors -- tied for fourth most all time -- and he's one of only five golfers to win all four major championships. Hogan was a four-time PGA Player of the Year. In 1943, Hogan was drafted and joined the U.S. Army and over the next three years, he rose to the rank of second lieutenant. In 1946, he returned to the PGA Tour and won 13 events. Hogan was named the AP's Male Athlete of the Year in 1953 and inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Arnold Palmer , 62 WINS

Palmer was a fan favorite who helped golf skyrocket in popularity. He won seven majors -- with all his victories coming between 1958 and 1964 -- and he was the first golfer to win four Masters. Palmer was a two-time PGA Player of the Year and a four-time PGA Tour money list winner. He earned the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. Palmer also launched many products, owned and designed golf courses, and co-founded The Golf Channel.

Who has the most wins in Tour history?

We take a closer look at the players who have the most wins in DP World Tour history.

The iconic image of Seve winning the 1984 Open at St Andrews

Just five players in history have achieved more than 30 wins on Tour.

Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Tiger Woods, Colin Montgomerie and Sir Nick Faldo are all certified legends of the game, and each player has proven their dominance through their number of victories on Tour, which is now named the DP World Tour.

Seve Ballesteros: 50

The late, great Seve Ballesteros remains the most decorated player in history with a record unlikely to be bested.

In a span of less than 20 years, the four-time Major Champion claimed 50 titles, starting with his first victory as a 19-year-old at the 1976 Dutch Open, where he beat Howard Clark by eight strokes.

What followed was a streak of 17 consecutive years, between 1976 and 1992, where he won at least once - totalling 47 wins which include his three Open Championship triumphed (1979, 1984, 1988) and two Masters titles (1980, 1983). The best of those years was undoubtedly the season of 1986, when he won six times, and he remains the only player to record six official tournament wins in one season.

He would then win twice in 1994, beating Nick Faldo by three shots to claim the Benson & Hedges International Open before defeating José María Olazábal and Ernie Els to win the Mercedes German Masters. His final, and 50th win, came a year later at the 1995 Peugeot Spanish Open, earning his home Open for the third time with a two win over fellow Spaniards Ignacio Garrido and José Rivero.

Bernhard Langer: 42

Bernard Langer has 116 professional titles to his name, 42 of which he won between 1980 and 2002.

Like Ballesteros, Langer earned his first European Tour title by a sizeable margin, winning the 1980 Dunlop Masters by five strokes over nearest challenger Brian Barnes at the age of 23.

He then enjoyed a streak of 16 consecutive winning years, a span which included both of his Masters victories (1985, 1993), and his notable record of becoming the first player to be ranked as World Number One when the rankings began in 1986.

His final Tour title came after a thrilling season finale at the 2002 Volvo Masters Andalucia, where the play-off between Langer and Colin Montgomerie was suspended due to darkness after two holes. They decided to share the spoils, which marked the second time Langer had opted to share a trophy – the other being the 1986 Lancome Trophy he shared with Seve Ballesteros for the same reason.

Langer has since translated his remarkable winning mentality into the senior ranks, where he has won a staggering 11 Senior Major Championships.

Tiger Woods: 41

Woods may have hit a milestone on the PGA Tour by matching Sam Snead’s tally of 82 victories, but 33 of those titles (15 Majors and 18 World Golf Championships) also amount towards his total on the DP World Tour.

His 1997 Masters triumph counts as the first of 41 wins, a number that includes eight further individual titles between 1998 and 2009.

A year later he would beat Ernie Els in a play-off to claim the Tour’s Johnnie Walker Classic for the first time, which was a title he would win again in November 2000.

He also won the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe on three separate occasions (1999, 2001, 2002), as well as the Dubai Desert Classic in both 2006 and 2008.

Still actively playing, Woods recorded his latest victory during his well-documented comeback victory at the 2019 Masters Tournament.

Tiger Woods - Masters Champion!

Colin Montgomerie: 31

Colin Montgomerie has played in 626 DP World Tour events throughout his career and has the fourth highest number of wins with 31.

After being named Rookie of the Year in 1988, Montgomerie eased to his first Tour title at the 1989 Portuguese Open TPC. He won by a substantial margin of 11 strokes that matched the record at the time (later set by Woods at the 2000 U.S. Open).

He would then wait two years for his second win – a one stroke victory over Seve Ballesteros at the 1991 Scandinavian Masters, and another two before his win at the 1993 Heineken Dutch Open began a run of 10 consecutive years with at least one victory. In that time, Montgomerie claimed eight Order of Merit titles, including seven in a row between 1993 and 1999.

Following a two year wait, Montgomerie posted a final round 65 to claim his 31st title at the 2007 Smurfit European Open, beating Nicolas Fasth by a stroke.

After turning 50, Montgomerie joined the senior ranks and has since gone on to win three Senior Major Championships and six further Staysure Tour tirles..

Colin Montomerie with the Senior Open Trophy

Sir Nick Faldo: 30

With six Major championships and 24 further DP World Tour wins, Faldo remains one of the most decorated players in the Tour's history.

He earned immediate success when he joined the circuit, making a birdie at the first play-off hole to win his maiden Tour title during his rookie year at the 1977 Skol Lager Individual.

His next three titles came at the expense of Ken Brown, defeating him to win the DP World Tour's PGA Championship on three separate occasions in 1978, 1980 and 1981.

Faldo won eight more times on Tour before claiming the first of six Major titles at The 1987 Open Championship at Muirfield. He would then win the Open twice more in 1990 and 1992, in addition to the Masters in 1989, 1990 and 1996.

The 1996 Masters Tournament marked his sixth Major title, and final win on the DP World Tour. He famously started the final round six strokes behind Greg Norman and went on to win by five as the Australian struggled around Augusta National on the final day.

Faldo won two further titles after that: The PGA Tour’s 1997 Nissan Open, and the 1998 World Cup of Golf with David Carter. He retired from professional golf at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews and now leads a successful career as an analyst on American television.

The most tournament wins on the PGA Tour is 82, achieved by Sam Snead (USA) between 1936 and 1965, and equalled by Tiger Woods (USA) between 1996 and 2019.

Woods equalled Sam Snead’s long-standing record of 82 PGA Tour wins with victory at the Zozo Championship on 28 October 2019 at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba, Japan. His first victory occurred at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.

Sam Snead’s first officially recognised PGA Tour victory occurred at the one-day, 36-hole 1936 West Virginia Closed Pro, while his last was the 1965 Greater Greensboro Open. His official tally was put at 84 before being reduced to 81 by the PGA TOUR in 1987, who later settled on 82 when it recognised his triumph at the 1946 The Open Championship. Seven of Snead’s 82 wins were achieved at major championships, compared to 15 by Woods.

The all-time leaders in victories on the PGA Tour and  Sam Snead  and  Tiger Woods  — they are currently tied, but Woods is likely to pull ahead soon. Woods is one of two active golfers (along with Phil Mickelson ) inside the Top 10 in career PGA Tour wins. The Top 5 are:

  • Sam Snead, 82 wins
  • Tiger Woods, 82 wins
  • Jack Nicklaus , 63 wins
  • Ben Hogan , 64 wins
  • Arnold Palmer , 62 wins

Those are also the only golfers in PGA Tour history to achieve 60 or more wins. There are seven golfers with 50+ wins, nine with 40 or more victories, 16 with at least 30 wins. Thirty-seven golfers have won 20 or more PGA Tour titles in their careers.

The number in parentheses next to each golfer's win total is the number of major championships won. An asterisk (*) next to a golfer's name indicates that golfer is still active on the PGA Tour.

(The farther back one goes in golf history, the sketchier the record-keeping becomes. For that reason, there are some lists of all-time wins on the web that differ very slightly for some golfers, particularly those below 30 wins, from this list. For example, some sources show Cary Middlecoff with 40 wins and Leo Diegel with 30. However, the numbers in our list above are the official win totals as recognized by the PGA Tour.)

PGA Tour, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Open Chanmpionship

Legendary is a title earned, not given.

The PGA Tour has had its fair share of outstanding players over the years. But these 10 have earned the legend label. These are players that, regardless of someone’s golf knowledge, they know who they are.

Comparing Old Tom to Jack Nicklaus or even Tiger Woods isn’t fair. Golf isn’t the same as it was in its infant stages, and like any other sport, it’s incredibly difficult to rank between eras.

The following list came together from a few different elements. PGA Tour wins, major championships and Ryder Cup performances are just a few of the things considered when ranking these men. Other factors include historic feats and other ways they’ve impacted golf.

There is no denying that these 10 men are all-time greats.

Nevertheless, it’s still difficult making this list.

So, here are some of our honorable mentions: Walter Hagen, Lee Trevino, Gene Sarazen, Tom Watson, Byron Nelson and Ernie Els. These men deserve spots on the all-time greats list but just missed the cut.

Here are the 10 all-time greatest PGA Tour golfers, ranked.

10. Nick Faldo

The player who just made the cut is Sir Nick Faldo, who dominated golf during the 1990s. Queen Elizabeth II awarded Faldo a knighthood in 2009 for his services to golf, per Golf Channel.

He won six majors, three Masters and three Opens. Faldo played on five winning European Ryder Cup teams. Those Ryder Cup wins cemented his legacy as one of the best players in the world.

Seve Ballesteros, PGA Tour

9. Seve Ballesteros

Another international player who was one of the most relatable people in the sport is Seve Ballesteros. He recorded 65 worldwide wins and racked up five majors, including three Open Championships. Ballesteros could get out of any lie or condition, which is one of the reasons that he is so great.

He helped make the Ryder Cup an iconic event. Ballesteros captained the 1997 European Ryder Cup team victory in Spain, his home country.

8. Gary Player

Gary Player is an international ambassador for golf and one of the best to ever play. He paved the way for international players to have more opportunities on the PGA Tour. Player has 150 worldwide wins, 24 PGA Tour victories and nine major titles. He is one of only five players to have won all four of the modern majors.

7. Phil Mickelson

Known as “Lefty,” Phil Mickelson is the No. 7 player on this list. He became the oldest player to win a major in 2021, and by a wide margin. He won the PGA Championship at 50 years 11 months.

That victory gave him six majors in his career, and Mickelson has 45 PGA Tour total victories. Lefty has played in a record-holding 12 Ryder Cups and 47 matches.

He might not have made this list if not for the unbelievable PGA Championship win though.

PGA Tour, Phil Mickelson

6. Bobby Jones

Bobby Jones was the Nicklaus of the early days, winning 13 major championships. He is the only player to win all four majors in 1930, giving him the career grand slam. The U.S. and British Amateurs were two of the four majors back then.

Nevertheless, to win 13 of those tournaments in an eight-year span (1923-1930) is incredible.

His greatest gift to the game, though, was co-founding the Masters Tournament with Clifford Roberts and creating Augusta National Golf Club with Alister MacKenzie.

5. Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer comes in at No. 5 not only because of his prowess on the course, but he is also credited with helping increase prize money for players.

Palmer was a fan favorite, and his popularity is still appreciated today. He won seven majors. Augusta was where he dominated the most, winning four Masters titles. However, his comeback victory at the 1960 U.S. Open will go down as one of his greatest feats. He beat out Hogan and Nicklaus that week.

4. Sam Snead

Sam Snead is tied with Tiger Woods for the most ever PGA Tour wins at 82. He also has seven major championships to his credit.

Snead did not complete the career grand slam, having never won the U.S. Open, so he sits at No. 4 on this list. But no one can deny how good Snead was. His swing looked effortless, and he competed with the best for five decades.

3. Ben Hogan

Ben Hogan won nine major championships and was one of the best ball strikers ever. His swing book is still something golfers reference when learning the game. He is No. 3 because his tenacity wouldn’t let him give up golf even after that terrible car crash. Hogan won six majors after that accident, including three in 1953 — The U.S. Open , Masters and Open Championship.

2. Jack Nicklaus

Jack Nicklaus narrowly lost out on the top spot on our list.

The Bear has 18 majors under his belt, which is the most ever. That includes six green jackets. Nicklaus also has the third most PGA Tour wins at 73. He played in six Ryder Cups and captained the 1983 and 1987 American teams.

Nicklaus’ incredible consistency and power made him a force of nature on the course. He was so dominant during his prime. He took down Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, and many others when he won his final green jacket in 1986 at 46 years old.

PGA Tour, Jack Nicklaus

1. Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is the No. 1 player on this list because he transformed golf in a significant way. There was so much he did as an African American that opened the doors for minorities in a primarily white-male dominated sport.

Plus, he is one of the reasons technology started to change in golf.

Tiger Woods, PGA Tour

His presence generated so much television revenue that tournament purses suddenly reached historic levels. Golfers worldwide have now been given an opportunity to make a career out of playing the beloved sport, even without winning.

Tiger has 82 PGA Tour wins, tied for the most ever with Snead. He has 108 wins worldwide. Woods has won 15 major championships, including five Masters — most recently in 2019.

There are also 18 World Golf Championship on his resume. Woods has been on eight Ryder Cup teams and a part of nine Presidents Cups. He also captained the 2019 Presidents Cup victory for the Americans. The list could go on for a while, but making the case for Woods is quite easy.

Crunching the Numbers

Using the ‘Sam Snead criteria’ for wins, Tiger Woods actually has 95 tour titles. We'll explain

THOUSAND OAKS, CA - DECEMBER 04: during the final round of the Chevron World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club on December 4, 2011 in Thousand Oaks, California. (Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images)

EDITORS' NOTE—This story was first published in May 2019, shortly after Tiger Woods amazed us all once more by winning the Masters for a fifth time in his career. It was his 15th major victory, but first in nearly 11 years. It also marked the 81st time Woods had won a PGA Tour title. That left him one back of the tour's all-time win leader, Sam Snead.

In the wake of Tiger's triumph, anticipation was high regarding when Woods might tie and/or break Snead's record. (The tying win would come later that fall at the Zozo Championship .) It also caused many to revisit Snead's career, including the fact that his victory total fluctated over the years as the definition of what was an "official" PGA Tour event. And that got us wondering: Should Tiger be credited for more wins than his "official" total considering some of his "unofficial" victories look a lot like ones that counted for Snead? And so we explored …

From the time Tiger Woods won his first Masters in 1997—heck, even before that when his dad impressively (and curiously) predicted Woods would win 14 major championships—the vulnerability of Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championships has been a popular golf debate. Injuries, surgeries and scandals, however, have shifted the conversation to a more attainable goal for Tiger: Sam Snead’s mark of 82 career PGA Tour titles.

While Woods’ win at the 2019 Masters finally ended a decade-plus drought in the game’s biggest events, it’s this lesser-known record that has come into focus since Major No. 15 for Tiger was also PGA Tour title No. 81. Much like a baseball team’s star player chasing 3,000 hits, the PGA Tour has built a “Chasing 82" marketing campaign around what seems like a foregone conclusion, even attaching a “Tiger Woods 82” logo to much of its shared content.

190503-tiger-chasing-82.png

But Tiger should have already broken the mark a while back, and not just because of the aforementioned obstacles that stunted his career trajectory. And, no, this isn’t another one of those, “Sam Snead’s win total is flawed” pieces. Although many have made that case quite persuasively , we’re not here to take even more titles away from a legend who took frustration over his curbed win total to his grave. Former PGA Tour commissioner Deane Beman put together a panel of golf historians to go through the records (made tricker due to the PGA Tour splitting from the PGA of America and establishing its own identity in 1968) in the late 1980s that wound up cutting Snead’s total from 84 to 81 before settling on 82.

Snead contended he should be credited with 89 PGA Tour titles, and “Losing those tournament wins always gnawed at him,” Snead friend and lawyer Jack Vardaman told PGATour.com . Vardaman wrote a letter to the tour on Snead’s behalf in 1996, but then commissioner Tim Finchem decided to stick with 82 as the official number. (Incredibly, Snead’s 82 PGA Tour titles account for less than half of his 165 professional wins.)

RELATED: What does Tiger's 2023 schedule look like given his latest foot injury

What can't be argued is that both Snead and Woods won PGA Tour titles at prodigious rates while displaying freakish longevity. Woods' 2019 Masters triumph came at 43 (and with a fused back) while Snead's final win came when he was nearly 53. How amazing is reaching the 80-win milestone? Consider a player would have to average four wins per season for two decades. Then consider that for more than a decade (from 1981 to 1993) no golfer won more than four times in a single season on tour. And it should be noted Woods has never shown anything but reverence for Snead's mark of 82.

But for this argument’s sake, it's also important to note that of the 82 wins that stood for Snead, a sizable portion would raise eyebrows in today’s game. There’s one, the 1937 Crosby, that was shortened to 18 holes because of weather. There are three 36-hole triumphs (today, the PGA Tour only recognizes events that went at least 54 holes as official events), including the 1946 World Championship of Golf, which only had four players in the field. There are five other Snead victories that came against fields of 16 or fewer players. And then there are the five team events that count toward Snead’s total.

Winning Again

Patrick A. Burns

Again, the point here is not to further diminish the Slammer's accomplishments. Let Snead keep those 14 wins in question and his 82 total. What we’re here to do is to point out that if Tiger got credit for similar victories, his total would be a lot higher.

Let’s start with the Hero World Challenge. Since its inception in 2000, the year-end event run by the Tiger Woods Foundation has undergone more name changes than Puff Daddy, but the tournament host winning has been a constant. At least, through 2011, when Woods won the event for a fifth time (Davis Love III and Graeme McDowell are the only other players with two wins). However, the event has never counted as an official PGA Tour event even though Official World Golf Ranking points have been awarded since 2009.

RELATED: 7 Tiger Woods stats that will blow your mind

Those who agree with its unofficial status say it’s a small field—initially, 16 players, but expanded to 18 in 2008 [it has 20 now in 2022]. However, it’s also a select one. In 2018, for instance, 16 of the world’s top 23 players competed, with Jon Rahm taking the title. The five wins Woods has in this tournament matches up quite nicely with those five Snead wins against fields of 16 or fewer, don’t you think? With these victories alone, Woods is up to 86 career tour titles.

Keeping the comps going, what about Tiger’s seven wins at the Grand Slam of Golf? At first glance, golf fans are quick to discount these as mere exhibitions, but they match two characteristics of several of Snead’s wins: It’s a 36-hole event with four golfers. Again, those are low bars, but they were deemed enough to count for Snead, in particular, that 1946 World Championship of Golf that Snead won over 36 holes and against only three opponents. Another panel feeling as generous as the one assembled more than three decades ago could add another seven to Tiger’s total, bringing it up to 93.

Some might say it’s not fair to give Woods credit for events others didn’t have access to, but on the contrary, doesn’t he deserve credit for qualifying for them? Sure, as the tournament host of the Hero he pretty much has an automatic spot, which helped in 2011 when he had fallen to No. 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but he was either No. 1 or No. 2 during his four other wins. And he had to win a major to get into the Grand Slam all those years he won. It’s not like we’re giving him credit for being invited to participate in the Skins Game. (Although, shockingly, Woods was 0-for-7 in that silly season event.)

RELATED: This map of Tiger's career earnings by state is staggering

Oh yeah, Tiger has team titles too! And not just from Monday Night Golf! Woods won back-to-back World Cup of Golf titles in 1999 and 2000, first with Mark O’Meara, and then with David Duval. He also won the individual title at the 1999 event, but to be fair to Sam, we won't count that. Still, two World Cups brings him to 95 wins.

Of course, this is a PGA Tour record so Woods’ wins on other tours don’t count. And we’ll stop short of saying things like Woods’ win at the 2009 Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge should be considered for his total, but you get the point. Even though he's technically still "chasing 82" until his next victory, Tiger Woods has long been the true career leader in PGA Tour titles.

Sorry, Sam.

And while Woods also continues to track down Jack’s 18 majors, the PGA Tour should actually be counting down to another, more memorable number when it comes to Tiger's overall victory total. Doesn’t “Chasing 100” have a nicer ring to it?

Here are the irons with the most PGA Tour wins this season

We ran the numbers on the 2022-23 PGA Tour season to see which equipment companies' irons have won the most thus far.

Ryan Barath

With two men’s major championships officially in the books for 2023 and the PGA Tour schedule past the halfway point, we decided to start looking at equipment trends among the players who have hoisted trophies.

Heading into the PGA Championship, we looked back on the drivers with the most wins on the PGA Tour , and now we’re turning our focus on winning irons for the 2022-23 season.

Let’s break down the list.

Ping – 9 wins, 1 uncontracted

Ping players have had a very solid year for wins on the PGA Tour, and a variety of models have been used for those wins including the Blueprint blade and the newest technology-packed i230s. The uncontracted win belongs to Matt Fitzpatrick, who uses a set of Ping S55 and an older i210 4-iron.

Callaway – 9 wins, 1 uncontracted.

Having Jon Rahm on staff sure has helped Callaway rack up wins, but he’s not the only one hoisting trophies in 2023. Thanks to others like Adam Svensson, Chris Kirk and Sam Burns, it’s been a busy year.

Titleist – 8 wins.

Just like with their successful TSR driver line, Titleist has iron models to suit any player, from pure blades to hollow cavities, but the model that stands out on tour are the T100s and T100S’, which combine compact looks with multi-material forgiveness.

Taylormade – 4 wins, 1 uncontracted.

It sure helps to have Scottie Scheffler, but TaylorMade irons were also used by Kurt Kitayama to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and they had an uncontracted win when Jason Day won for the first time in five years with a mixed set of P770 and P7MC irons.

Srixon – 2 wins.

Srixon irons aren’t just popular with their staff players, the ZX7 MKII is one of the most popular irons on tour for players who aren’t under contract. The biggest win for Srixon this year is also its most recent, thanks to Brooks Koepka winning the PGA Championship .

ZX7 MKII, Z-Forged II, Srixon ZX4 MK II, and ZX5 MK II irons

Cobra – 1 win uncontracted.

It’s not that often a player wins with a brand new set of irons in the bag, but when equipment free agent Justin Rose had a mixed combo set of Cobra irons built last minute Wednesday before the AT&T Pro-Am, that’s exactly what he did.

Justin isn’t the only one playing well with Cobra’s new King Tour forged irons — staffer Rickie Fowler is having a resurgent year with four top 10s and 10 top 25s to put him 30th in the FedEx Cup.

Pxg – 1 win.

If there is one club PXG is most known for, it’s their irons, and Nico Echavarria used them with exacting precision to win for the first time on the PGA Tour at the Puerto Rico Open. He plays a combo set that includes PXG’s newest 0317 forged CBs.

Scottie Scheffler shot a 3-under 68 in his final round at RBC Heritage.

Scottie Scheffler matches Tiger Woods with fourth win in last five tournaments

  • World No 1 wins RBC Heritage on Monday morning
  • American has 40 consecutive rounds at par or better

A Masters green jacket wasn’t enough for Scottie Scheffler. The American was running on emotional fumes fresh off his four-shot victory at Augusta National , but full of purpose that more than made up for his lack of preparation for the RBC Heritage. The result not only was similar, it has come to be expected.

He rarely missed a shot. He gave little hope to those chasing him. And he walked away from Harbour Town on Monday morning with another victory that extended a dominance not seen since the peak years of Tiger Woods . Scheffler now has won four of his last five starts, the exception a runner-up finish in the Houston Open when he misread a 5ft birdie putt that would have forced a playoff.

“I didn’t show up here just to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations. I came here with a purpose,” Scheffler said after polishing off a three-under 68 for a three-shot victory.

Victory was inevitable – Scheffler had a five-shot lead with three holes to play when the final round, delayed because of storms on Sunday afternoon, was suspended by darkness. He considers Harbor Town one of his tougher wins because it followed the Masters.

“Coming off the high last week to going into here, not really with a ton of energy, not really with a ton of prep work,” Scheffler said. “I think it’s underrated how difficult it is to do the stuff that Tiger was doing, and win like every single week. It takes a lot out of you emotionally and physically, especially major championships.”

Scheffler now has 40 consecutive rounds at par or better, a streak that began at East Lake in the Tour Championship last August. His position at No 1 in the world is so great that he became the first player since Woods to crack the 15-point average mark.

“It’s very impressive,” Patrick Cantlay said. “He’s played great for a while now – a number of years – and it seems like he is playing the best golf of his life right now.” The only competition on Monday morning was for second place.

The storms brought cold weather and a strong wind. Scheffler missed the 18th green to the right, chipped safely to 18ft and two-putted for bogey. That ended his streak of 68 consecutive holes with no worse than a par. “I hit driver, 3-wood into there,” Scheffler said. “So I’m going to count that as a par for myself.”

Sahith Theegala birdied the 16th hole, saved par from a bunker on the par-3 17th and closed with a par for a 68 to finish alone in second, a difference of $666,667 than if he had finished in a three-way tie for second. “Even though I finished second, I felt like I was never really in it to win there. Scottie was just so far ahead,” Theegala said.

after newsletter promotion

Cantlay (68) and US Open champion Wyndham Clark, who finished his 65 on Sunday before the storms, tied for third. Scheffler finished at 19-under 265 and earned $3.2m. That brings his season total to nearly $18.7m in just 10 tournaments.

The good news for the rest of the PGA Tour: Scheffler won’t appear again until the PGA Championship in late May. He travelled back home to Dallas, where his wife his expecting their first child. Such is Scheffler’s dominance that his last seven victories have come against fields that had at least eight of the top 10 players in the world.

The last player to rip off a stretch like this – four wins and a runner-up – was Woods at the end of 2007. Woods then won his first three PGA Tour starts (and one on the European Tour) to start 2008. Scheffler now has 10 titles on the PGA Tour in 51 tournaments dating back to his first victory in the 2022 Phoenix Open.

“It does not get boring,” Scheffler said. “I think hitting a really well-struck golf shot close to the pin is like an addicting feeling.”

Scottie Scheffler 10th all-time in PGA Tour money by winning often but also winning the big ones

AUGUSTA, Ga. — There's winning and then there's winning at the right time. Scottie Scheffler continues to do both.

With his second Masters victory, good for $3.6 million, and yet another signature event win, the 2024 RBC Heritage, Scheffler has amassed $61,258,464 in career on-course earnings on the PGA Tour. That figure has put him into the top 10 all-time , jumping him two spots past Matt Kuchar and Jason Day.

Tiger Woods leads the list at $120 million and while Scheffler has a long way to go, he's now more than halfway there as a six-year veteran.

Then again, Scheffler is playing in this big-money era of signature events and elevated purses, but to his credit, he's also winning the bigger-money events.

His 10 wins include two Masters, two Players (the richest event on the PGA Tour), two Arnold Palmer Invitationals, two WM Phoenix Opens (one of which was a signature event) as well as a Match Play and now the RBC.

Scottie Scheffler's 10 PGA Tour wins

  • 2022 WM Phoenix Open: $1,476,000
  • 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational: $2,160,000
  • 2022 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play: $2,100,000

Chevron Championship: Nelly Korda equals LPGA record as she claims wins first women's major of 2024

World No 1 Nelly Korda ties the record for the most consecutive LPGA wins, matching the five in a row set by Nancy Lopez in 1978 and repeated by Annika Sorenstam across 2004 and 2005; 20-year-old English amateur Lottie Woad finishes one-under in her first major appearance

Nelly Korda claimed her second major title and a remarkable fifth successive tournament win as she clinched victory in the Chevron Championship by two shots.

The world No 1's victory at The Woodlands in Texas saw her tie the record for the most consecutive LPGA wins, matching Nancy Lopez's mark set in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam's across 2004-05.

Korda began the final round of this year's first major one stroke behind South Korean leader Haeran Ryu but a three-under final round of 69 was enough to earn the 25-year-old American the victory at 13 under for the tournament.

Sweden's Maja Stark finished two shots further back in second after also closing with a 69, while American Lauren Coughlin and Canada's Brooke Henderson - who started level with Korda after a super third round of 64 - were tied in third place at 10 under. Ryu carded a two-over 74 to finish fifth.

When asked how she was able to put together five wins in five consecutive tournaments, Korda, who made five birdies but had two bogeys on the back nine of her final round, said: "I don't know, but I can finally breathe now.

"I can finally breathe now and just enjoy the moment because I was definitely really nervous. I feel sick to my stomach."

Korda's first major win came at the Women's PGA Championship in 2021 and she secured the first of her five straight titles this year at the LPGA Drive On Championship in January.

She then took a seven-week break before returning to win three events in the space of three weeks, including beating Ireland's Leona Maguire in the final of the T-Mobile Match Play a fortnight ago.

In terms of British interest in the tournament, 20-year-old Lottie Woad - winner of the Augusta National Women's Amateur earlier this month - missed out on finishing as the lowest amateur. The English future star, who had been in contention at four under through Friday, ultimately finished one under after a two-over final round of 74.

Charley Hull and Georgia Hall both signed off with 72s to also finish one under, while Jodi Ewart Shadoff (+3) and Scotland's Gemma Dryburgh (+4) had disastrous final rounds of 79 and 80, respectively. Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow ended the week on level par.

Tight races define men’s Olympic Golf Ranking 100 days out from competition

Olympic Golf

Change Text Size

While Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant force across men’s golf in the spring of 2024 – bolstered by wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship, the Masters Tournament and, most recently, the RBC Heritage – a number of storylines have emerged as the calendar creeps towards the 2024 Paris Olympics. Tuesday, April 23, marked the 100-day mark from the start of the men’s golf competition, but perhaps more immediately, the June 17 qualification deadline for the men’s golf competition is less than two months away.

With 60 spots up for grabs in the men’s competition, a finite number of opportunities remain for players to maintain their status inside the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) or breach the top 60.

This week’s movement inside the top 60 included Matti Schmid edging countryman Yannik Paul for Germany’s second position, alongside Stephan Jaeger, who recently solidified his spot with a win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open on the PGA TOUR. Schmid and Paul are not the only two countrymen battling for a position: Close races exist for several other countries, including Japan, Canada, South Korea, Denmark and Spain. In the past month, Byeong Hun An has overtaken Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim for the second position representing South Korea (alongside Tom Kim), while Japan’s Keita Nakajima has edged ahead of Ryo Hisatsune after a win at the Hero Indian Open at the end of March.

Beyond competitions between players from individual countries, there is a top-60 “bubble” that several players are jostling around: This week, Norway’s Kris Ventura surpassed Finland’s Kalle Samooja after a top-five finish on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Countries can only have more than two representatives if they have more than two within the top 15 of the OGR (with a limit of four). As currently constructed, the United States (four) is the only country projected to include more than two representatives in the men’s competition.

With less than two months until the field is finalized, it’s officially crunch time for those hoping to represent their country on the grandest stage.

Jordan spieth, will zalatoris highlight field for pga tour's 2024 cj cup byron nelson, share this article.

The PGA Tour is heading back to Texas.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is set to begin next week at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, outside of Dallas. The tournament, formerly sponsored by AT&T, is the third of four stops in the Lone Star State for the Tour in 2024, with the final being the Charles Schwab Challenge in May.

The title sponsor is new but golf fans should know this is the same tournament that was established in 1940 and not the continuation of the CJ Cup event that was previously staged in South Korea, Las Vegas and South Carolina. CJ has simply taken over title sponsorship of the long-running Byron Nelson event.

Dallas residents Jordan Spieth, Tom Kim and Will Zalatoris will be in the field, as will defending champion Jason Day, who shot 9-under 63 on Sunday a year ago to claim his first title in more than five years. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who was in the field last year, is not this year as he and wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.

Here’s a look at the full field for the 2024 CJ Cup Byson Nelson, which will have a field of 156, a total purse of $9.5 million and a first-place-prize of $1.71 million:

Nelly Korda

She couldn’t do it again, could she?

We ended Sunday learning Nelly has air-tight cannonball form.

Korda started the Sunday marathon at The Club at Carlton Woods with less-than 33% win probability according to KPMG Performance Insights. Her dramatic chip-in at No. 10 pushed that number over 90% and would never look back.

Korda’s Historic Brilliance

During her streak, Korda is gaining an absurd 3.60 strokes per round on the competition, and that doesn’t even include her three match-play victories in Las Vegas. She has made birdie or eagle on 28.7% of her total holes played and is 46-under on par 5s. When she has hit the fairway on a par 4 or 5, she has gone on to hit the green in regulation a ridiculous 86% of the time. At Carlton Woods, she only missed five of 42 greens all week after hitting the fairway.

Korda was excellent through the bag in her victory, ranking third in strokes gained tee-to-green, fourth around the green, sixth off the tee and 12th in putting. Her lead over second-ranked Lydia Ko in strokes gained total per round this season is now larger than the gap between Ko and the 13th-best player in that metric.

In what will be horrifying news for her fellow competitors, Korda still has room to get even better. This season, she has one of the lowest putt make percentages from 5 to 10 feet among qualified players. There are six players on the LPGA Tour this season making a higher rate of birdie opportunities than Korda is. She ranks 102nd on Tour in one-putts per round. Her ball-striking prowess is such that she easily overcomes a miscue or two per round on the greens.

Korda has tied the record for most consecutive victories in LPGA Tour history with five, matching the historic runs of Nancy Lopez in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam in late 2004 into 2005. In her next tournament, Korda will have an opportunity to do what no player has accomplished in LPGA history by winning a sixth start in a row. Neither Lopez nor Sorenstam finished in the top 10 the week they went for number six: Lopez finished tied for 13th at the 1978 Lady Keystone Open, while Sorenstam finished T12 at Kingsmill.

Only once in the previous seven LPGA Tour seasons was there an instance of a player winning five or more times in an entire season – Jin Young Ko, who had five victories in 2021. No American player had won five or more times in a single LPGA Tour season since Juli Inkster in 1999. Korda did both of those things in a span of just five tournaments.

No American player has won six times in a single LPGA Tour season since Beth Daniel racked up seven victories in 1990, eight years before Korda was born. The superlatives are seemingly endless, and with so much golf left on the schedule this year, one must wonder how high her star will ascend before 2024 is completed. Just 25, Korda is the youngest American player to win multiple majors since Inkster in 1984.

Coughlin’s Breakthrough

Before last week, Lauren Coughlin had a career scoring average in major championships of 73.4. While she undoubtedly was under the radar as a possible contender, several of her underlying statistics suggested that a big week was on the horizon.

KPMG Performance Insights provide a deeper understanding of the number of improvements in Coughlin’s game. She entered last week up 16 spots this season compared to 2023 in strokes gained total, 29 spots in strokes gained tee to green, and a whopping 76 spots in strokes gained putting. Though she didn’t yet have a top-five finish on the season, Coughlin had gained more than a stroke with her ball striking in almost half of her rounds played.

In Houston, Coughlin put everything together, gaining more than six strokes on the field in both round one and round four. In the final round, she gained strokes in every facet of her game, showcasing the improvements those statistics suggested. Coughlin’s tie for third place moved her into ninth in the U.S. Solheim Cup standings.

Third Round to Remember

The round of the week belonged to Brooke Henderson, whose lightning-interrupted 64 wrapped up with one last hole on Sunday morning. Henderson gained more than 7.5 shots on the competition in the round, by far her most to date in 2024. In rounds one and two, the Canadian star made a combined 107 feet of putts. She made an astronomical 139 feet worth in round three.

Henderson already has more top-10 finishes this season (five) than she did in all of 2023 on the LPGA Tour. She is one of just three players averaging two or more strokes gained per round in 2024, alongside Korda and Lydia Ko. She has had more rounds this year where she was five or more strokes better than the field (four) than she has rounds where she lost strokes (three).

Off the tee, Henderson’s incremental improvements have started to add up. Henderson is hitting the fairway at a 4% higher rate than last year yet has not sacrificed any length with driver. That has led to her gaining 0.74 strokes off the tee per round this season, more than doubling what she did in 2023 and ninth best of any player on the LPGA Tour.

If anybody is going to stop Nelly Korda next month at Lancaster Country Club, Henderson is as good a candidate as any. The U.S. Women’s Open begins on May 30.
