Vice President/External Affairs Major: Human Biology and Business Administration Hometown: Saratoga, California Why I Joined Tommy’s Tours: I I always dreamed of being a campus tour guide. When I came across Tommy’s Tours and saw that it was geared towards inspiring children to pursue higher education, it aligned perfectly to my interests. As a freshman, it also allowed me to become more easily acquainted with the USC campus and community.
Communications Chair Major: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Hometown: Visalia, California Why I joined Tommy’s Tours: I joined Tommy’s Tours as a way to inspire younger students to pursue higher education. Social Chair Major: International Relations (Global Business) Hometown: Shanghai, China Why I joined Tommy’s Tours: I joined Tommy Tours because I thought this organization would be a great way to learn more about USC and make new friends. I also love working with children so this opportunity was a great fit for me.
Trainer Major: Business Administration Hometown: Santa Clarita, California Why I joined Tommy’s Tours: I joined Tommy’s Tours because I want to give younger kids the amazing first look at USC and university in general that inspired me to apply here when I first had a tour of campus.
Trainer Major: Themed Entertainment Hometown: Frisco, Texas Why I joined Tommy’s Tours: I joined Tommy’s Tours because working with kids is something that’s always been both enjoyable and rewarding and the organization would also allow me to in some small way help out these younger kiddos by teaching them a little bit about USC and especially college in general.

New Virtual IWalk Web App Brings Remote Users to Holocaust-Related Historical Sites
USC Shoah Foundation today launches a new Virtual IWalk web app that enables students and teachers to tour historic sites online while watching and listening to witness testimonies from the Visual History Archive.
First launched by USC Shoah Foundation in 2014, IWalk is an interactive educational app (available from Apple App Store & Google Play ) that connects concrete physical sites with the testimonies of people who were there.
USC Shoah Foundation currently offers 52 mobile app IWalks in 12 countries and 12 languages, enabling users in Poland, for instance, to listen to testimonies as they tour the site of the former Warsaw Ghetto and gain a sense of the daily struggles of those forced to live there.
The original IWalk app requires a user to be physically present at the site of a tour—in the case of the Warsaw Ghetto experience, in the Polish capital—with a mobile device. The resulting in-person experience, with survivor testimony humanizing the surrounding spaces, is unique.
The new Virtual IWalk web app, launched today to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, brings the physical sites to the student, with at-home or in-classroom users able to explore historical locations while engaging with compelling survivor testimony.
“With rising hatred and antisemitism globally, the need for innovative, student-centered learning opportunities has never been greater,” said Lesly Culp, Head of Programs in Education at USC Shoah Foundation. “This next-generation Virtual IWalk technology empowers educators to take their students on revelatory online field trips that would otherwise be impossible without travel.”
The groundbreaking Virtual IWalk web app was developed by Substantial, an Insights, Design + Development Studio. It is designed to accommodate 360-degree technology—funded by generous support from the Snider Foundation—that can capture an interviewee and the surrounding location in a single shot, thereby allowing viewers to feel like they are standing with the survivor at the location.
The new Virtual IWalk web app is another new resource of The Willesden Project , which is funded by generous support from the Koret Foundation.
The first Virtual IWalk tour follows in the footsteps of Holocaust survivor and concert pianist Lisa Jura, who, as antisemitism escalated in 1938 Austria, was sent by her parents from Vienna to London on the Kindertransport. Viewers can experience Lisa’s life in Vienna; her trip through the Hook of Holland and Rotterdam; and finally, her arrival to and life in London.
USC Shoah Foundation will hold a webinar in February to train teachers in how to use the technology. The Virtual IWalk web app also functions as an IWitness activity, meaning teachers can assign tours to their students and review their responses to questions and activities on the IWitness platform.
Looking ahead, USC Shoah Foundation plans to continue to expand its mobile and Virtual IWalk web options, with new content that will include testimonies from survivors and witnesses of the Armenian Genocide and the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

USC Football: Matt Leinart Gives Thoughts on Reggie Bush Heisman Reinstatement
The former teammate of Bush weighs in...
- Author: Matt Levine
In this story:
On Wednesday morning, the USC Trojans announced that former running back Reggie Bush would have his Heisman Trophy reinstated by the school. Bush "lost" his trophy after the program was penalized for recruitment issues when he attended USC.
This has been long in the making and has been one of the better days in recent USC memory. Fans have been clamoring for Bush to get his Heisman back for years now and it has finally happened.
Former teammate of Bush, quarterback Matt Leinart, weighed in on the decision. Like many others, Leinart was ecstatic about the news.
It’s about time!! @ReggieBush #FightOn ✌️ pic.twitter.com/E6mfW3cGlm — Matt Leinart (@MattLeinartQB) April 24, 2024
Leinart was the quarterback for Bush during his time there and the two became very close. This is a special moment for everyone involved with USC and college football, putting an end to the nonsense that has been around for years.
Bush was one of the better running backs to ever step foot on a college field so it was a travesty to take his Heisman award from him. Regardless of what happened involving recruitment purposes, we all witnessed what he did on the field, and that can never be taken away.

USC cancels guest speakers, honorees at main commencement after valedictorian decision
LOS ANGELES — Following the publicized decision to cancel a commencement speech by a Muslim valedictorian, the University of Southern California said Friday it will have no outside speakers or honorees at the main stage commencement event.
“Given the highly publicized circumstances surrounding our main-stage commencement program, university leadership has decided it is best to release our outside speakers and honorees from attending this year’s ceremony,” USC said in a statement . University leadership will still speak.
The decision comes after the Los Angeles university was criticized by some , including valedictorian Asna Tabassum, over its decision to cancel Tabassum's speech due to security concerns.
“Crazy Rich Asians" and “Wicked” film director Jon M. Chu, an alumnus of USC, was to give the keynote commencement address and was to receive an honorary degree, the university had announced . Tennis star Billie Jean King was among those to get an honorary degree.
Tabassum, a major in biomedical engineering and a minor in resistance to genocide, said she was shocked and disappointed.
She said that she felt abandoned by USC and that the university was “caving to fear and rewarding hatred.”
At least two pro-Israel and Jewish groups complained to USC about the choice of Tabassum as valedictorian, pointing to her Instagram account, which links to a slideshow encouraging people to “learn about what’s happening in palestine, and how to help.”
It calls for “one palestinian state,” which it says “would mean palestinian liberation, and the complete abolishment of the state of israel.”
Tabassum has she said added the link on her social media account five years ago and was not the author, according to NBC Los Angeles .
The Muslim advocacy group Council on American-Islamic Relations was among those that condemned USC's decision to cancel her speech.
Protests have been held both on and off college campuses across the United States following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas against Israel, where more than 1,200 people were killed, and Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza that health authorities there say have killed more than 30,000 people.
USC said Friday that those who were to receive honorary degrees will hopefully be awarded them at a future commencement or other academic event.
Tabassum said that she "was hoping to use my commencement speech to inspire my classmates with a message of hope."
She said in a statement that she is imploring students at USC "to work towards a world where cries for equality and human dignity are not manipulated to be expressions of hatred."
The May 10 commencement event, which will celebrate 19,000-plus graduates, is expected to draw around 65,000 people to the campus in the University Park section of Los Angeles, according to USC.
Guest speakers and honorees were cut from the university's main stage commencement, which is for everyone. The schools of USC also have their own commencement events.
