Déjà vainqueur à deux reprises lors de sa carrière et grandissime favori, faute de concurrents sérieux sur la ligne de départ, Mathieu Van der Poel n’a pas failli à son rang pour réaliser la passe de trois.

Qui d’autre que lui ? Maillot arc-en-ciel sur les épaules, dossard n°1 en bas du dos, Mathieu Van der Poel a fait respecter la logique pour s’imposer sur ce Tour des Flandres 2024. Déjà vainqueur à deux reprises lors de sa carrière, le Néerlandais réussit la passe de trois lors de sa sixième participation.

Les absents ont toujours tort. Wout van Aert, Tadej Pogacar et Jasper Stuyven n’étaient pas sur la ligne de départ. La voie était royale pour Mathieu Van der Poel. Grandissime favori, le champion du monde a assumé son statut. Il était parmi les hommes de tête à une centaine de kilomètres de l’arrivée et a attendu pour placer son attaque. Une course intelligente.

Le Koppenberg décide de la course

Difficulté redoutée par les coureurs et placée à une quarantaine de kilomètres de l’arrivée, cette ascension aura eu raison des coureurs, de la course et du suspense. Placé parmi les hommes de tête, le coureur néerlandais a impressionné dans cette montée, pour dessiner sa victoire.

Quand la plupart des coureurs étaient en grande difficulté, voire carrément pied à terre pour nombreux d’entre eux, le champion du monde s’est faufilé entre tous ses concurrents pour filer seul tel un guépard dans la jungle. On ne le reverra plus. Le leader d’Alpecin-Deceuninck s’échappe seul devant Matteo Jorgenson et Mads Pedersen. Mathieu Van der Poel compte dix secondes d’avance, puis 30, puis une minute et jusqu’à une minute et 45 secondes sur une demi-douzaine de poursuivants.

Dans des conditions météorologiques compliquées - vent, pluie, humidité -, le spécialiste du cyclo-cross en a profité pour tirer son épingle du jeu. Vainqueur en 2020 et 2022, second en 2021 et l’an passé, le champion du monde de cyclisme sur route s’impose pour la troisième fois dans le Tour des Flandres. Mathieu Van der Poel compte désormais cinq Monuments dans son palmarès.

Île-de-France : les « pilleurs du Chêne-Pointu » dépouillaient les camionnettes d’artisans à tours de bras

INFO LE PARISIEN. Cinq jeunes tous plus ou moins liés à une cité de Clichy-sous-Bois, ainsi que deux receleurs présumés, auraient multiplié les vols d’outillage lors d’expéditions nocturnes. Les suspects devaient être déférés ce samedi 30 mars au soir au tribunal de Bobigny.

Il suffisait de percer un trou. Et le véhicule utilitaire se déverrouillait comme par enchantement. Grâce à cette combine d’une efficacité redoutable, une équipe surnommée « les pilleurs du Chêne-Pointu » aurait fait 130 victimes dans toute l’Île-de-France mais aussi dans l’ Yonne , la Marne, l’Eure et même le Nord. Les victimes sont des petits artisans qui se faisaient « roulotter » leur utilitaire alors qu’ils dormaient à l’hôtel. Préjudice : des mallettes de chantier en pagaille.

L’incroyable série a pris fin ce mercredi 27 mars matin à Clichy-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) au retour d’une énième expédition. C’est du moins la conviction des policiers qui ont interpellé sept hommes soupçonnés d’appartenir à cette bande. Parmi eux, cinq jeunes tous plus ou moins liés à la cité du Chêne-Pointu , dans cette même ville. Le plus jeune a 17 ans. Ces suspects, ainsi que deux receleurs présumés, devaient être déférés ce samedi soir au tribunal de Bobigny en vue de l’ouverture d‘une information judiciaire.

« Les spécialistes savent exactement percer selon le modèle »

L’affaire, menée de bout en bout par la Brigade anticriminalité de Clichy-sous-Bois et ses collègues du service investigation, débute à la mi-janvier en marge d’une enquête sur un trafic de stupéfiants. Après avoir saisi de la drogue dans un appartement squatté, ils repèrent une autre habitation de repli. Dedans, des mallettes remplies d’outils volés. Les policiers sentent qu’il y a un os à ronger. Des nuits entières, ils surveillent des suspects, repèrent des voitures et comprennent vite que leurs « clients » mènent des expéditions nocturnes.

Quand tout le monde est couché, un ou deux véhicules quittent la cité pour partir loin. D’après nos informations, les pilleurs du Chêne-Pointu commencent par cibler les parkings d’hôtel des départements limitrophes comme la Seine-et-Marne (une trentaine de faits). Ils se rendent sur place et, quand ils aperçoivent un utilitaire de chantier, utilisent la fameuse technique du perçage à l’arrière du véhicule.

« Les spécialistes savent exactement où percer selon le modèle », explique un expert. Une fois que l’utilitaire est ouvert, il n’y a plus qu’à se servir. Chaque nuit est rentabilisée par plusieurs vols. Ils dérobent ainsi des meuleuses, des perforateurs… Combien au total ? Si 130 victimes ont été identifiées, 85 mallettes auraient été retrouvées.

Ces deux dernières semaines, les raids s’étaient intensifiés. Jusqu’à ce retour d’expédition mercredi vers 7 heures. L’équipe venait de frapper dans le nord de la France et se mettait à décharger les mallettes chez un receleur de Clichy-sous-Bois quand la Bac a décidé qu’il était temps d’en finir après des mois de surveillance.

Une partie du matériel volé était apparemment revendue directement dans la cité. Mais un des receleurs aurait utilisé son réseau pour écouler la marchandise ailleurs. En garde à vue au commissariat de Clichy-sous-Bois, les cinq jeunes soupçonnés d’avoir mené ces raids ont nié toute implication. Ils seraient déjà connus des services de police pour des vols avec violences.

Beyoncé has gone country, sure … but it turns out that’s only the half of it.

For months, the superstar, who made her name in R&B and pop, has been telegraphing her version of country music and style. There was the “disco” cowboy hat at her Renaissance World Tour last year, and her “ western ” look at the Grammys in February, complete with a white Stetson and black studded jacket. Then, on the night of the Super Bowl, she released two new songs, and sent one of them, “Texas Hold ’Em” — with plucked banjos and lines about Texas and hoedowns — to country radio stations, sparking an industrywide debate about the defensive moat that has long surrounded Nashville’s musical institutions.

At midnight on Friday, Beyoncé finally released her new album, “Cowboy Carter,” and the country bona fides were certainly there. Dolly Parton provides a cameo introduction to Beyoncé’s version of “Jolene,” Parton’s 1972 classic about a woman confronting a romantic rival. Willie Nelson pops in twice as a grizzled D.J., who says he “turns you on to some real good [expletive],” including snippets of Chuck Berry, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the blues singer Son House.

Yet “Cowboy Carter” is far broader than simply a country album. Beyoncé does a version of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” and, on the track “Ya Ya,” draws from Nancy Sinatra and the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations.” “Desert Eagle” is glistening funk, and the upbeat “Bodyguard” would not be out of place on a modern rock radio station. The album’s range suggests a broad essay on contemporary pop music, and on the nature of genre itself.

That theory is made clear on the partly spoken track “Spaghettii,” featuring the pioneering but long absent Black country singer Linda Martell , who in 1970 released an album called “Color Me Country.”

“Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they? Yes, they are,” Martell, 82, says. “In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand. But in practice, well, some may feel confined.”

Of course, Beyoncé herself indicated this a week ago when she posted a note on Instagram saying: “This ain’t a country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

Still, the theme of simultaneously celebrating and transforming country music extends to the album’s cover art, featuring Beyoncé seated sideways on a white horse, dressed in red-white-and-blue rodeo gear and hoisting an American flag.

Guests on the album include Miley Cyrus on the song “II Most Wanted,” and Post Malone on “Levii’s Jeans.” (The extra I’s underscore that “Cowboy Carter” is officially “Act II” of what Beyoncé has said will be a three-album cycle, which began with “Renaissance” in 2022. That motif repeats throughout the album’s 27-song track list. The Beatles cover — where she is joined by a quartet of young Black female country singers — Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts and Tiera Kennedy — is rendered as “Blackbiird.”) Midway through the track “Daughter,” Beyoncé even flexes some opera skills, singing a bit of “Caro Mio Ben,” a popular 18th-century Italian aria. In a statement, Beyoncé described the sonic texture of the album, differentiating it from the synthesized process behind most contemporary pop albums (including her own).

“With artificial intelligence and digital filters and programming, I wanted to go back to real instruments, and I used very old ones,” she said. “I didn’t want some layers of instruments like strings, especially guitars, and organs perfectly in tune. I kept some songs raw and leaned into folk.”

As with “Renaissance,” the audio for “Cowboy Carter” was leaked online shortly before its planned release, with some fans urging others not to listen early.

Back when Beyoncé released her self-titled “visual album” without warning in 2013, establishing the “surprise drop” as an industry trope, it was partly meant to protect the album from leaks, which had become a threat to first-week sales numbers. For these last two albums, Beyoncé has embraced a more conventional marketing plan, announcing her album weeks ahead of time and preparing deluxe physical editions. (There are many for “Cowboy Carter,” including LPs in, yes, red, white and blue vinyl.)

In the end, the leaks meant little to “Renaissance,” which went straight to No. 1 . And, regardless of the new album’s fate at country radio — where “Texas Hold ’Em” has so far made it only as high as No. 33 — the commercial potential for “Cowboy Carter” seems vast, given Beyoncé’s recent success.

Last year, she won her 32nd Grammy Award , more than any artist in history. Her Renaissance tour sold $580 million in tickets, second only to Taylor Swift. A related concert film, “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” offered a rare look behind the scenes of her creative process and was a hit in cinemas.

Last week, as the release of “Cowboy Carter” neared, Beyoncé wrote on Instagram that the album was “over five years in the making,” and that “it was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed … and it was very clear that I wasn’t.” Fans zeroed in on her appearance at the Country Music Association Awards in 2016, where she performed her song “Daddy Lessons” with the Chicks, and drew backlash online .

“The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me,” Beyoncé said. The new album, she added, “is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.”
