Just got home from the Utah tour of the National Parks. Had a lot of fun, great group of folks to travel with, and tour guides Barb and David did an excellent job!  Professional, kept us busy, made sure everyone had a great experience. The sunset and star gazing at Arches was incredible!!  Thanks Marie for your awesome trip planning. Nice hotels, great beds, and great restaurants. Already have 3 long trips in mind and can hardly wait to go again!!!

Love, love, love the trip to New Orleans , Cajun country and plantations.  Just got back from the longest tour I have taken with Exploration Tours.  It exceeded my expectations of the all the places we visited, the tour guides along the way and accommodations.  Amber, our driver was amazing along with Marie who went the extra mile to make sure we were all taken care of and happy.  Loved the history and southern culture.

Just got back from my first ever, bus tour with Exploration Tours. Honestly, wasn’t sure how I would like it… but I sure had a great time. So nice to sit back, not do the driving and enjoy the amazing scenery from WA to Pasadena, CA. Made new friends and I was very impressed with the historical stops. So much depth to the tour and not those tourists traps! Happy to report I look forward to traveling with your company again.

Day 1: Arrival In Oregon

washington state bus tours

Welcome to Portland, Oregon's largest city. After your arrival downtown at the luxurious Historic Multnomah Hotel, stroll the beautiful streets of this city. Time permitting, you may wish to explore the many blooms of the International Rose Test Garden and wooded trails at the Hoyt Arboretum. Or experience the grandeur of the Pittock Mansion, a French renaissance chateau offering unforgettable panoramas. This evening join your fellow travelers for a fun-filled welcome reception with your cruise staff.

Day 2: Mount St. Helens & Willamette River

The excitement explodes at the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument in Washington State. From the scarred mountainside, you'll see the devastation of the 1980 eruption with a force of four hundred million tons of TNT. Enjoy spectacular views of the mountain as we dine at the Hoffstadt Bluffs Restaurant. From this rugged setting, we journey to the Columbia Queen for a late afternoon cruise through Oregon's lush Willamette River Valley. As twilight gives way to twinkling, watch the Portland skyline light up the night.

Day 3: Astoria & Cannon Beach, Oregon

washington state bus tours

Today we discover Astoria, America's first settlement on the Pacific Coast. Shop or take a leisurely ride on the Waterfront Trolley. Astoria is rich in history and Victorian architecture. Be sure to see the Astoria Column and the Columbia River Maritime Museum - featuring one of the country's finest displays on shipwrecks and lighthouses. Afterwards we join the legendary expeditions of Lewis and Clark at Fort Clatsop, where the explorers camped for the winter. The Fort has a fine display of preserved artifacts of early canoes and tools. Stroll the charming seaside hamlet of Cannon Beach with miles of unspoiled shoreline.

Day 4: Columbia River Gorge

A morning sail through the Columbia River Gorge offers spectacular scenery with shoreline cliffs, the majestic Cascade Mountains and the 620 foot Multnomah Falls. We'll also experience the sounds and history of this area at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. Inside the elegant Maryhill Museum, a magnificent collection of sculptures, basketry and Faberge eggs awaits.

Day 5: Pendleton, Oregon

A sensational day lies ahead of us in Pendleton, the center of Oregon's cowboy country. At the Pendleton Round-Up grounds, you can see the site of one of the country's greatest rodeos. Next, head down under...to Underground Pendleton. This rock and timber subterranean city was created by and for Chinese laborers. The maze of shops and other buildings attracted miners and outlaws during the Gold Rush. You can purchase sturdy wool blankets from the historic Pendleton Woolen Mills, an American institution. Learn about the history of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla Native American Tribes at the Tamatslikt Cultural Center. The center is the only Indian owned and operated interpretive facility on the entire Oregon Trail.

Day 6: Washington & Hells Canyon, Idaho

washington state bus tours

Take an exhilarating jet boat ride along the Oregon-Idaho border into Hells Canyon. This breathtaking gorge is deeper than the Grand Canyon and home to abundant wildlife and rare Indian petroglyphs carved into stone walls. Feast on the incredible views and a mouth-watering buffet lunch served in rustic comfort at Hellers Lodge.

Day 7: Pioneer Sites & River Cruising

Discover the perils of the pioneers at the Whitman Mission National Historic Site, a resting place for many of the Oregon Trail travelers. For an in-depth look at the pioneer way of life, explore Fort Walla Walla in Washington. This fifteen-acre site offers extensive exhibits about life in the 1800's. Don't miss the wonderful views from the decks of the Columbia Queen on today's journey as we cruise by endless hillsides of rolling wheat, cattle ranches and other natural scenery.

Day 8: Mount Hood & Timberline Lodge

At the base of glacial Mount Hood is the picturesque town of Parkdale, Oregon. Stroll through the bountiful and beautiful fruit orchards. Your adventure turns sharply upward onto the winding road of this rugged, snow-capped mountain as you are transported 6,000 feet up to the historic Timberline Lodge. This wilderness retreat features hand-hewn wooden beams and a massive stone fireplace. You'll especially enjoy the delightful lunch of Northwest cuisine prepared by the lodge's award-winning chef. Upon returning to the Columbia Queen, you'll cruise into the twilight through the imposing Columbia River Gorge.

Day 9: Return To Portland

This morning the Columbia Queen returns to Portland. We bid farewell to our crew and fellow travelers while taking home memories and photographs to treasure for a lifetime.

San Juan Islands 6 Day Bike Tour Tour

San Juan Islands 6 Day Bike Tour

What people love about pacific northwest tours.

This Vancouver Island tour was another great tour from Fresh Adventures. The trip was well run and organised. The 2 guides, Jafar and Carl were excellent and cooked some fantastic meals throughout the week. A good mix of exploring and relaxation at some great swimming areas throughout the island. Definitely recommend.
The itinerary, hikes and activities were great. The best feature of the hotel in Seattle was location. The quality of the hotels went from bad to worst. On the one we stayed the last two nights there was not even soap, we had to go and ask for it and almost beg for shampoo, they also just gave us one key for a double room, There was always a sense of improvisation and lack of communication. The guide tried his best to save the day, every day. We would arrive tired and hungry and most places were closed already. The guide on the last day went out of his way to deliver participants to their destinations, not just the airport but the train station, etc. that was greatly appreciated, his energy, enthusiasm and driving skills made of this a Good trip. There is a lot of room for improvement.
We loved the tour! Ian is a fantastic tour guide. He’s so knowledgable and makes things fun. It’s a long day but totally worth it. The Discover tour is the best. It’s a smaller group. Very personal. Just enough “tour” time as well as free time. Victoria is wonderful!

Package Tours in Washington State

Package tours are simply a way to buy the airfare, accommodations, and other elements of your trip (such as car rentals, airport transfers, and sometimes even activities) at the same time and often at discounted prices.

One good source of package deals is the airlines themselves. Most major airlines offer air/land packages, including American Airlines Vacations (tel. 800/321-2121; www.aavacations.com), Delta Vacations (tel. 800/654-6559; www.deltavacations.com), Continental Airlines Vacations (tel. 800/301-3800; www.covacations.com), and United Vacations (tel. 888/854-3899; www.unitedvacations.com). Several big online travel agencies -- Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, and Lastminute.com -- also do a brisk business in packages.

Gray Line of Seattle (tel. 800/426-7532 or 206/624-5077; www.graylineofseattle.com) offers 3- to 7-day bus and cruise tours that include Seattle, Mount Rainier, and Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia. Prices range from about $235 for a 3-day trip to $1,170 for a 7-day trip.

If you prefer traveling on your own, but would like to have a custom itinerary planned for your trip to Washington or the Northwest, consider consulting Pacific Northwest Journeys (tel. 800/935-9730 or 206/935-9730; www.pnwjourneys.com), which tailors trips to suit your personal traveling style.

Travel packages are also listed in the travel section of your local Sunday newspaper. Or check ads in the national travel magazines such as Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic Traveler, and Conde Nast Traveler.

More about seattle, washington, why visit seattle.

Seattle has its own distinctive set of buildings, businesses and city squares that have become synonymous with the city. And while this metropolis has done some reinventing as of late to accommodate the influx of tech companies relocating here (it’s where Amazon is headquartered), local Seattleites have done well to preserve its iconic sites. Here are a few of our favorite must-see attractions.

pioneer square

Pioneer Square

Established in 1852, this historic neighborhood is where the first Seattleites settled. Take in the lovingly preserved architecture of this storied neighborhood, then stop at The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park to learn about Seattle’s role in this lucrative discovery during the 1890s. Become better acquainted with the city’s roots and visit this landmark.

Pike Place Market

This lively marketplace is a culinary and cultural hub for locals and visitors alike. From fresh fish and produce to handcrafted goods and art, Pike Place Market is quintessential Seattle. Enjoy an afternoon here and peruse the many food stands, restaurants and shops.

Space Needle

Arguably one of the most well-known observation towers in the U.S., you’ll find this iconic structure is hard to miss amongst the city skyline. With its crowning antenna spire, the Space Needle stands in Seattle Center at 605 feet tall. Head to the observation deck and get panoramic views of downtown, Mount Rainier, Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

Olympic Sculpture Park

Amble through this waterfront park while taking in a variety of intriguing outdoor sculptures. Originally an industrial site, the park was transformed in 2007 by the Seattle Art Museum, which invested more than a decade of work into beautifying the space for the public. While walking through the nine-acre grounds, bring your camera and capture panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains range.

Those seeking culture need not look far while in Seattle. The city offers a range of museums that appeal to countless visitors with a variety of interests. Whether it looks like rain or not, we recommend you check out these great galleries and exhibitions.

seattle art museum

Seattle Art Museum

Simply known as SAM by the locals, this museum has been a cultural mainstay in the city since 1933. Located in downtown Seattle, the galleries feature nearly 25,000 works of art from around the world. Visit this impressive space if you have some free time.

Living Computers: Museum + Labs

A nod to the evolution of technology, this museum features fun, hands-on exhibits ranging from virtual reality to self-driving cars, as well as vintage collections of micro- and supercomputers. Whether you’re a self-professed geek or just use a smartphone, this museum provides a fascinating look into how computers have shaped our world.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

See this stunning collection of wildly colorful glass sculptures from Washington native Dale Chihuly. Enter the museum’s 40-foot tall glass house and witness a riot of red, orange, yellow and amber-colored glasswork. Then, head outdoors to see a lovely garden complete with a massive sunburst composed of tentacles of ornate glass. This is an otherworldly artistic experience.

Museum of Pop Culture

Seattle is proud of its influence on pop culture. With interactive exhibits, collections and educational programs, this museum celebrates the creative spirit of locals and visitors alike. For a rocking time, we suggest you check out this site.

From fish plucked from the waters of Puget Sound to crisp Washington-grown apples, the fare in Seattle is alluring to a range of palates. The temperate climate, fertile plains and access to the sea ensures that what you’re eating will usually be locally-sourced, fresh and delicious. Here are some notable culinary selections to try while in the “Emerald City.”

apple picking

Washington is a major producer of the apples grown in the U.S. and in 1989, it was declared the official state fruit. You can enjoy the fruit au naturel, baked in a pie or if you prefer, in a spiked cider. This is the produce to try while in Seattle.

Seattleites have built a whole culture around this caffeinated beverage. From world-renowned roasting facilities to stylish cafes dotting the streets of every neighborhood, the city’s veins run black with coffee. Grab a cup while exploring the city or pop into a local shop and drink in the goodness.

Thanks to the cool waters of the Puget Sound, this port city is no slouch when it comes to its offering of seafood. Whether you crave salmon, a dozen oysters or a bowl of clam chowder, Seattle has you covered. Head to Pike Place Market and let your taste buds take it from there.

Seattle stakes its claim as a major player in the craft beer scene. 70% of the nation’s hops are grown in nearby Yakima Valley, and breweries are about as plentiful as coffee shops. We recommend enjoying a cold pint while you’re here.
