The theme is “Theatre of the Absurd”, the more absurd the better* We’ll have photographers snapping you at every show, the best ones win prizes and will be immortalised on an official poster.  *Some venues ask that you please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, and please refrain from wearing team kits

After scoring their first studio UK Official Charts No.1 album, Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie on Friday, one of the biggest and most loved British bands Madness, announce their ‘C’est La Vie’ summer tour.

The tour will conclude with a summer show at Galway Airport on Saturday 10th August as part of the Galway Summer Sessions 2024.

As well as performing tracks from their brand-new UK Official Charts No.1 album Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie, Madness will also perform some of their greatest hits from a career spanning over four decades.

The long awaited album Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie comes seven years after the release of their last record and is available on double vinyl and CD with a limited crystal clear vinyl sold through HMV and indie stores - available here .

The governing principle behind Theatre Of the Absurd Presents C’Est La Vie, is: “let Madness be Madness”. The result is an album of typically timeless brilliance that also reflects the wonky years of its creation, these 14 songs representing the cream of the bumper crop of tunes the group cooked up, whittled down this punchy, focused set. There are moments of ineffably catchy pop excellence (drummer Daniel ‘Woody’ Woodgate’s beguiling, bittersweet carousel ‘Round We Go’, Chrissy-Boy’s anarchic anthem to perhaps-justified paranoia, ‘Run For Your Life’), lead single from the album ‘C'est La Vie’reflects on the perils of everyday life while the album is bookended by two of Suggs’ finest compositions.

Talking about the album, Madness said "Well, well, well, here we are.. Our thirteenth album (lucky for some) Theatre Of the Absurd Presents C’Est La Vie is ready for your ears. For us, recording it was the perfect antidote to the chaos of the past few years - we were all there, properly in the zone. It was just us, in an industrial unit in Cricklewood, playing together. We loved it!”

A very special prologue running through the album is supplied by Emmy and BAFTA Awards winning Martin Freeman. A longtime fan, the relationship formed with the band when Madness’ manager found Martin in a meet and greet queue and introduced him to the members.

Madness famously emerged from the backstreets of Camden Town in the late 70s and recently released a three-part original docu series with TV channel AMC about the beginnings of the band in the area. Before We Was We: Madness by Madness, chronicles the rise of one of the most loved bands in British culture.

Throughout their career, Madness have had one  no.1 UK Official Charts No.1 album, 10 UK top ten albums, 15 top ten singles and have won a multitude of awards including a prestigious Ivor Novello. They’ve performed on the top of Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and set the record for the biggest ever audience for the BBC’s Live New Year’s Eve Broadcast - the most watched TV music event of 2018.

Announced this morning (November 27), the new run of shows will see Suggs and Co. play multiple stops across the UK in celebration of their new album ‘Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie’ , which arrived earlier this month.

The huge 2024 tour consists of 19 dates across the country, kicking off with a stop at the Summer Series in Margate on June 14. It continues over the next two days with appearances at the Summer Sessions in Plymouth and Southampton.

From there, Madness will perform at outdoor venues in Newcastle, Lincoln, Edinburgh and more throughout the remainder of June and July, before wrapping up the final leg of dates in August.

These final three shows consist of a show at Audley End in Essex, a gig at the Custom House Square in Belfast and a final slot at Galway Airport in Ireland on August 10.

Tickets go on sale this Friday (December 1) and will be available here . Check out a full list of tour dates in the poster below.

Madness’s new LP marks their 13th studio album, and arrived seven years after the release of their last record – 2016’s ‘Can’t Touch Us Now’. The band teased the release with singles ‘Baby Burglar’ and ‘C’Est La Vie’ , as well as an intimate show at the Koko venue in London.

The announcement of the 2024 tour also comes in light of the album going on to top the UK charts. “Would you Adam and Eve it?! It only took us 40 years to get there but we’ve just gone and ruddy scored our first no 1 album with Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie and we thought, what better way to celebrate than to announce a summer tour,” said the band. “There are still a few tickets left for some of the Christmas leg if you can’t wait until then though.”

The run of Summer 2024 shows also follows on from a previously-announced run of tour dates set to kick off later this week.

These consist of a stop at P&J Live in Aberdeen on Thursday (November 30) and continue throughout December with shows in Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester and more. The dates also include a sold-out stop at The O2 Arena in London, taking place on December 15. Find any remaining tickets for the 2023 tour here .

Recent tour reviews

Brilliant show as always from Madness although they sang a few obscure tunes which we didn't really know from their back catalogue (although they were celebrating 40 years so I guess that was understandable). The Roundhouse is our favourite venue, it's well run, great sound, good views from wherever you stand or sit, plenty of bars & toilets.

Madness where fantastic. Great being in a smaller venue. Only downside was no air conditioning and it was extremely hot inside . No support act to speak of just a guy playing tunes at his decks which was ok for a bit but crowd got a bit restless . Madness brilliant

nikki-cattanach’s profile image

Brilliant atmosphere, fabulous sound,& an unbelievably great show yet again, only disappointment was (some of,not all) the security guards at the venue, their level of professionalism left a lot to be desired, but The Fratellis and Madness were (and still are) just as good as they’ve always been! #TheSoundOfMadness
