Best Experience Ever

"It was a birthday gift to remember. Awesome choices, plenty of time to explore and enjoy the other options available. Our guide was very knowledgeable and I have made changes in what we look for in beers as well as how we drink it - always in a glass. Fun and cool"

Excellent Time Had By All

"The tour was great from beginning to end. Mark was an awesome guide. Perfect man for our group. We really enjoyed his knowledge of beer and history. All the brewery stops were good, but Bantam Cider was my favorite. Will definitely be back!"

History Meets Beer

"This tour was a great way to experience the city of Boston and see what various types of beer it has to offer. The tour guide was very informative and made the overall experience fun and enjoyable. Plus, who doesn't like to sample 15-18 beers in under 6 hours? Will definitely recommend this tour to friends!"

Down East Cider House Tour

Over the past few years, hard ciders have been at the center of a growing foodie trend and cider makers are getting creative with the brewing process and ingredients. My favorite brand that I’ve tried so far is  DownEast Cider . I love their original flavor and Jeff and I both love their Cranberry cider, which we first experienced in a bar on our trip to Sleepy Hollow . We recently toured their Cider House located under the Tobin Bridge just outside of Boston.

Down East Cider House Tour Boston MA

The process starts with their own unique blend of apples varieties grown in New England. The apples are pressed at Box Mill Farm in Stow, MA and the juice is trucked 27 miles to their Boston Ciderhouse, where it is fermented in large stainless steel tanks. Another detail that makes DownEast Cider unique is that they ferment with ale yeast instead of the more commonly-used champagne yeast and leave most of their flavors unfiltered for a cloudy and deliciously juicy result.

Even though I described a lot of what you might hear on the tour, I highly recommend you check it out yourself – sometimes you can only try limited special blends at the cider house, and the company’s enthusiasm for making something amazing out of an important local crop is infectious!

I absolutely love cider. I think I would prefer a tour of a cider brewery than to a beer brewery. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for your comment Alden – it was a really nice thing to do on a cold winter day 🙂

Snowmobiler who crashed into a parked Black Hawk helicopter in Mass. is awarded $3 million

Black Hawk Snowmobile Crash FILE - This U.S. Army photograph by attorney Douglas Desjardins shows a damaged Black Hawk helicopter resting ing the snow, March 13, 2019, in Worthington, Mass. (U.S. Army photograph provided by attorney Douglas Desjardins via AP, File) (CAK MC/AP)

BOSTON (AP) — The federal government was mostly responsible for a  nighttime collision  involving a snowmobiler who nearly died after hitting a Black Hawk helicopter that was parked on a Massachusetts trail, a judge ruled in awarding him $3.3 million in damages.

U.S. District Judge Mark Mastroianni blamed both parties for the March 2019 crash in his ruling Monday, but said the government was 60% responsible for parking the helicopter on a snowmobile trail. He criticized Jeff Smith for not operating the snowmobile safely, for speeding and for wearing tinted goggles.

Smith, a Massachusetts lawyer, had asked for $9.5 million in damages to cover his medical expenses and lost wages and to hold the military responsible for the crash.

“We are grateful for Judge Mastroianni’s thoughtful consideration of the complicated facts of this case,” Smith’s lawyer Doug Desjardins said. “We believe justice was served, and the decision encourages public safety.”

The government has 60 days to pay Smith or appeal, Desjardins said. The government did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Black Hawk Snowmobile Crash FILE - In this photograph provided by Kerry Smith, Jeffery Smith rests in a hospital bed at Baystate Medical Center after crashing his snowmobile, April 16, 2019, in Springfield, Mass. (Kerry Smith photo via AP, File) (CAK MC/AP)

Smith’s lawyers argued that the crew of the Black Hawk helicopter that flew from New York’s Fort Drum to Worthington, Massachusetts, for night training was negligent for parking a camouflaged 64-foot (19.5-meter) aircraft on a rarely used airfield also used by snowmobilers.

“The court finds the government breached its duty of care in failing to take any steps to protect against the obvious risk of a camouflaged helicopter parked on an active snowmobile trail, in a somewhat wooded area, as darkness set,” Mastroianni wrote. “The helicopter and area where it was parked were not illuminated or marked in any way.”

Smith also sued the owner of Albert Farms airfield in Worthington, accusing them of both giving permission to snowmobilers to use the trail and the Black Hawk crew to land in the same area. He settled with the farm owner for an undisclosed sum.

Smith, who was airlifted to a trauma center with a dozen broken ribs, a punctured lung and severe internal bleeding, has been surviving on disability assistance. The 48-year-old struggles with simple tasks, including putting on socks or pulling up his pants. He no longer golfs or snowmobiles.

“It was a mess,” he said.

His lawsuit argued that the helicopter crew didn’t do enough to protect him, including failing to warn snowmobilers of the Black Hawk’s presence on the trail, leaving the 14,500-pound (6,577-kilogram) aircraft briefly unattended and failing to illuminate it. The helicopter landed on an air strip approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and the crew members testified that trainings are often conducted in similar locations. But Smith, who said he had snowmobiled on the trail more than 100 times, said the last time an aircraft used it was decades ago when he was a child — and never a military aircraft.

The government attempted to dismiss the case several times, arguing that it could not be sued under the Federal Tort Claims Act because a policy decision was involved. But the judge disagreed and said the act allows for exceptions.

The government also argued that the court lacked jurisdiction and that the crew members weren’t told that they were landing on a snowmobile trail. The government also pushed back on claims that it could have prevented the accident and said the crew was not required to illuminate the helicopter. The government also attempted to cast blame on Smith, claiming he was driving his sled more than 65 mph (105 kph) and that he had taken both prescription drugs and drank two beers before his ride.

In its investigation, the Army concluded the crew members weren’t aware they were landing on a snowmobile trail. It also questioned whether glow stick-like devices known as chem lights used to light up the craft would have made a difference.

The night of the accident, Smith said he was over at his mom’s helping fix a computer. He had a beer with dinner and another with his dad before setting off to meet his brother, Richard Smith, on the trail. Jeff Smith drove in the dark alongside farm fields and forests before going over a ridge. His headlights reflected off “something,” he said, but Smith only knew it was a helicopter after the crash.

“I found him face down in the snow,” Benjamin Foster, one of the crew members, told the court. “We rolled him on his back and I might remember yelling or telling one of my crew chiefs to grab some trauma shears and space blankets from the aircraft. ... I remember him gasping for breath.”

“As soon as I heard that somebody on a snowmobile hit the helicopter, I knew it was my brother,” Richard Smith said. “My heart hit my stomach. I just knew it was him. I went down there and my father told me he was alive. I didn’t sleep that night. I spent that night on my knees praying.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.

Brett Eldredge Shares 2024 Glow: Welcome to the Family Tour Dates Ahead of New Christmas Album Release

"I feel honored that these Christmas shows have became such a tradition for so many families to get in the spirit of the season," said Eldredge in a statement

Alysse Gafkjen

Christmas is still a few months away, but Brett Eldredge is already preparing to deck the halls.

The 38-year-old country star unveiled a string of 2024 dates for his annual Glow: Welcome to the Family Tour in celebration of the holiday season, shortly after he announced his upcoming album, Merry Christmas (Welcome to the Family) .

"I feel honored that these Christmas shows have became such a tradition for so many families to get in the spirit of the season," said Eldredge in a statement. "This upcoming tour is going to be sprinkled with some extra magic, new original Christmas songs and classic holiday stories."

Tibrina Hobson/Getty

The "Wanna Be That Song" performer added, "My goal is for everyone to feel right at home and leave as part of one BIG beautiful family! Merry Christmas, welcome to the Family! Let’s Glow!"

Kicking off at Boston's Boch Center Wang Theatre on Nov. 29, the tour will make stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, New York City and St. Louis before wrapping at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Dec. 20.

Tickets for the tour, which features Stacey Ryan as support, first become available through Eldredge's fan club, Spotify and general presales on Sept. 24, 25 and 26, respectively, before the general on-sale opens Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. local time. More information is available at Eldredge's website .

Courtesy of Live Nation

The show announcements come after the CMA Award winner recently shared details for Merry Christmas (Welcome to the Family), his upcoming third holiday album, out Nov. 22 via his own label, Warm and Cozy Records.

Eldredge released the album's first single, "Sweet December" with Kelly Clarkson , earlier this month — their latest duet following 2020's "Under the Mistletoe."

Following their first collaboration, he said in a statement, "I knew there was no one else in the world I wanted to sing this song with...Kelly’s voice has this soulful retro feeling. I’ve never done a Christmas song in this style, and I really love it."

Upon the song's release, Clarkson said in a statement, "I’ve been fortunate enough to record songs with Brett, go see him live, and have him on my show! He has one of my favorite voices and I will sing with him anytime, anywhere! I hope people dig 'Sweet December' as much as we do!"

Concert Review: beabadoobee Charms Boston at MGM Music Hall

The excitement was palpable at MGM Music Hall on Sept. 13 as a young crowd awaited beabadoobee’s sold-out Boston show. Born Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, Filipina-British singer-songwriter beabadoobee garnered attention this summer after opening for Taylor Swift’s "Eras Tour." On Aug. 9, she released her most recent album, “This Is How Tomorrow Moves,” off of which four singles were released earlier in the year.

Beabadoobee’s fame began in the midst of the pandemic, when 2020’s “death bed (coffee for your head)” went viral on TikTok. Since then, songs like “Glue Song,” and “the perfect pair” have also gone viral, although to a lesser extent. The crowd was clearly made up of loyal fans, as they sang the lyrics to both her viral songs and her lesser-known ones.

The crowd sang the lyrics to both her viral songs and her lesser-known ones.

After impressive opening performances from American alt-country duo Hovvdy and American indie-pop singer-songwriter Keni Titus, beabadoobee started her show with “California” from her newest album, followed by “Talk” and “10:36” from 2022’s “Beatopia.” She showcased her instrumental talent, often switching between electric and acoustic guitars for different songs.

Although beabadoobee’s performance was somewhat relaxed, the lively music and the joy emanating from the crowd kept the energy high.

“This song is very special to me, and I hope it’s special to you too,” she said before playing “Take a Bite,” one of the more popular songs from “This Is How Tomorrow Moves.” The crowd was obviously pleased, with the occasional shout of “I love you, Bea!” coming from the floor.

Beabadoobee dedicated one song to her boyfriend, Jake Erland.

“This one goes out to my boyfriend,” she said before playing “Ever Seen,” a love song featuring cute lyrics like, “I can't lie, he has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen.”

Toward the end of her set, beabadoobee brought the energy up with her 2019 hit “She Plays Bass” from her EP “Space Cadet.”

Toward the end of her set, beabadoobee brought the energy up.

“I'm gonna count, and everyone’s gonna jump,” she instructed as she began the song. “It's gonna be really fun.”

The entire venue seemed to jump up and down as she repeated the catchy chorus and had fun with her bandmates on stage.

The stage design also encouraged the atmosphere and the crowd. For most of the show, a simple white sheet hung from the back of the stage, with lights sometimes revealing the shadows of plants, trees, and other greenery. Then, right before “Beaches,” which beabadoobee described as her favorite song, the sheet dropped — revealing the shrubs that were once hidden.

After beabadoobee played her last song, 2021’s “Cologne,” and walked off stage, a cacophony of shouts, whoops, and more screams of “I love you” pulled her back on for an encore.

“You guys are so loud, it’s so much fun. I especially like when you guys sing along,” she said playfully before singing “Coming Home” from her newest album and 2023’s “the way things go.”

“You guys are so loud, it’s so much fun. I especially like when you guys sing along,” said beabadoobee.

A bittersweet feeling filled the venue as beabadoobee got ready for her last song of the night.

“You guys make me so happy. Thank you so much for having us. That was so special to me, and I’ll see you soon,” she said as she began the fitting “See you Soon” from “beatopia.”

After she left the stage and the lights illuminated the floor, showgoers stumbled out to a warm September night, clutching their newly bought merchandise — and their friends. After charming Boston, beabadoobee will finish up the American leg of her tour at the end of September, kicking off the European leg in early November.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO goes supernova as final tour stops in Boston

Jeff Lynne performed during Jeff Lynne’s ELO “The Over and Out Tour” at TD Garden on Monday.

It’s a shame, really, that many of Electric Light Orchestra’s gems have been placed in movie soundtracks and TV advertisements ad nauseam, to the point that the opening piano notes of a song like “Mr. Blue Sky” immediately call to mind products from Volkswagen or Adobe . But when presented in its proper form, cheerfully rocketing toward the rafters of TD Garden with Jeff Lynne at the helm, the song’s live performance wipes that commercial slate clean and recalibrates its original, brilliant solar power.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO descended upon the Boston arena Monday night with a supernova of a final showdown, bidding farewell to the project with 90 minutes of rock-spiked orchestral splendor. A decade after reforming the group — and adopting a slightly different moniker — the 76-year-old Lynne led TD Garden through a final, immersive tour of the ELO universe , from 1971′s “10538 Overture” to their newer offering “One More Time.”

Jeff Lynne performed during Jeff Lynne’s ELO “The Over and Out Tour” at TD Garden on Monday.

While Lynne looked unsure of himself at times, and missed (but quickly recovered from) a few cues to sing, Monday’s date of “The Over and Out Tour” reminded fans of his genius when sculpting and arranging layers of sound. Flanked by a 12-piece band, key stops on Lynne’s solar stroll included the galloping synth grandeur of “Turn to Stone,” operatic groovemaker “Rockaria!,” and trancelike waltz “Strange Magic,” whose magnetic, drifting quality was amplified by Lynne’s still-nimble and emotive vocals. Monday night was a low-energy ordeal for the frontman physically, but not vocally, as he stretched his narrative range between weary, unanswered calls on “Telephone Line” and upbeat pleas during “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” (a little assistance from backup singer Iain Hornal, who periodically filled in Lynne’s lines, didn’t hurt either).

Jeff Lynne’s ELO brought “The Over and Out Tour” to TD Garden on Monday.

Propelled by Lynne’s lasting sense of wonder and a spirited string section, ELO’s catalog has long boasted an antidepressant effect, which is especially apparent when compared to today’s more cynical pop landscape. The disparity between Lynne’s buoyancy and Top 40′s mainstream malaise helped cuts like “Livin’ Thing” and “Shine a Little Love” ascend to new emotional heights, casting a meteor shower of optimism over fans.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO brought “The Over and Out Tour” to TD Garden on Monday.

Lynne’s stage presence seemed renewed when he and the band returned for a brief encore, his bolstered confidence shining through the already-radiant “Mr. Blue Sky.” As the song’s lyrics affirm, we’ll remember the maestro this way: operating on his own plane of futuristic rock, miles removed from even his most innovative contemporaries.

Once “The Over and Out Tour” finishes, and Lynne presumably hangs up his guitar, that slice of the stratosphere will likely remain unoccupied for many years to come, awaiting the next great sonic explorer.
