How To Make Safari / Jungle Animals Fondant Cupcake Toppers – Tiger, Zebra, Giraffe, Elephant, Monkey, Hippo, Bear, Lion

September 5, 2014 by Roxy

safari animals cake topper printable

As promised, here is the full tutorial on how to make Safari / Jungle Animals Fondant Cupcake Toppers, the ones I showed you in Part I of my Safari / Jungle Themed First Birthday Party post. Here are all the posts in case you missed them:

Part I – Dessert Ideas Part II – Appetizers, Finger Foods & Snack Ideas Part III – DIY Decoration Ideas + FREE Printables Part IV – Cheap Party Supplies & Decorations

In this post you will find step by step instructions and photos on how to make all the toppers as well as details on all the tools I used. I made four of each animal face cupcake topper, from tigers, zebras, giraffes, elephants to monkeys, hippos, bears and lions. I think they turned out pretty adorable, right? Which one is your favourite?

I also made a few ones with the number 1 but you can personalize these ones based on your little one’s age. I used the FMM Funky Number Tappit Cutters to make the number 1.

Materials & Tools:

  • Orange, yellow, white & black fondant
  • Small fondant ball tool
  • A toothpick or the cone fondant tool which has a pointy end
  • Blunt knife fondant tool
  • #8 round piping tip
  • Small paint brush
  • Small rolling pin – I use the Wilton 9″ fondant rolling pin
  • X-Acto knife or any other sharp knife with a thin blade

Directions:

Knead and roll out the orange fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter.

Knead and roll out the yellow fondant to the same thickness. Cut out oval shapes for the mouth.

Roll two small balls of orange fondant into a teardrop shape. Use the small ball tool to make an indentation, a bit more at the base of the ear and less towards the tip.

Cut the black stripes using the X-Acto knife and the nose shape.

For the eyes, roll out a bit of white fondant and make tiny circles using the small end of the #8 piping tip. You can shape these with your fingers as well but I find it harder to make them exactly the same in size. Attach two dots of black fondant for the pupils using a bit of water. If you want to save yourself some time you can buy the pre-made Candy Eyeballs.

Use a small brush and some water to attach all the pieces together as seen below.

Use the bigger end of a piping tip to mark the mouth and the blunt knife to mark line just below the nose. Use the pointy end of the cone fondant tool or a toothpick to mark in the cheeks.

Let the tiger face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • White & black fondant
  • Small rolling pin – I use the  Wilton 9″ fondant rolling pin
  • X-Acto knife  or any other sharp knife with a thin blade

Knead and roll out the white fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter.

Knead and roll out the black fondant to the same thickness. Cut out round shapes and then using the same cutter cut off a bit of each end to make the mouth as seen in the image below.

Roll two small balls of white fondant into a teardrop shape. Use the end of the paint brush to make an indentation, a bit more at the base of the ear and less towards the tip.

Cut the black stripes using the X-Acto knife.  For the eyes, roll out a bit of black fondant and make tiny circles using the small end of the #8 piping tip.

Use the bigger end of a piping tip to mark the mouth and the end of the paint brush to mark the nostrils.

Let the zebra face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • Yellow, brown & black fondant
  • Three round piping tips in different sizes

Knead and roll out the yellow fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter.

Roll a ball of fondant for the mouth/nose, shape it into an oval and flatten it with your fingers. Make the nostrils using the small fondant ball tool. Use the bigger end of one of the piping tips to mark the mouth.

Roll two small balls of yellow fondant, flatten them with your finger and pinch them at one end. Use the small fondant ball tool to create a small pocket in the ear.

Roll two tiny balls of brown fondant to make the two pieces between the giraffe’s ears.

Roll out some brown fondant and using the 3 round piping tips make tiny dots in different sizes. You could also make 10-12 tiny balls out of brown fondant and flatten them out with your finger instead of using the piping tips.

For the eyes, make two tiny balls out of black fondant. Or you can use an edible marker to draw them.

Let the giraffe face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • Dark gray, black & white fondant

Knead and roll out the gray fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter.

Cut out a flower shape per elephant and make the ears as seen below.

Roll a ball of gray fondant and shape the trunk using your fingers. Make small indentations using the blunt knife fondant tool.

Make the two tusks using white fondant.

For the eyes, roll out a bit of white fondant and make tiny circles using the small end of the #8 piping tip. You can shape these with your fingers as well but I find it harder to make them exactly the same in size. Attach two dots of black fondant for the pupils using a bit of water.

Brush some water on the edge of the ears and stick them to the side of the head. Attach the trunk, eyes and tusks using some water as well.

Let the elephant face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • Dark brown, light brown & black fondant
  • A piping tip

Knead and roll out the dark brown fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter. Cut out two small round shapes using the large end of the piping tip for the ears.

Knead and roll out the light brown fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the smaller round cutter.

Roll out two small balls out of light brown fondant and flatten them with your fingers. Attach them to the two small circles using some water to form the ears.

Use the flower cutter to cut out the monkey face from the round shapes made out of light brown fondant as seen below.

Make two tiny balls out of black fondant for the eyes and a slightly bigger ball out of brown fondant for the nose. Make the hair out of dark brown fondant.

Use a small brush and some water to attach all the pieces together as seen below.  Use the bigger end of the piping tip to mark the mouth.

Let the monkey face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • Purple, white & black fondant
  • Small fondant veining tool or any tool with a pointy end

Knead and roll out the purple fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter. Cut out oval shapes for the mouth.

Roll two small balls of purple fondant, flatten them with your finger and pinch them at one end. Use the small fondant ball tool to create a small pocket in the ear.

Cut the teeth out of rolled white fondant using the X-Acto knife. For the eyes, make two tiny balls out of black fondant.

Use the pointy end of the small fondant veining to mark in the cheeks and the small ball tool to make the nostrils.

Let the hippo face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

  • Black edible marker

Knead and roll out the dark brown fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes using the 2.5 ” (6.5 cm) round cutter. Cut out two small round shapes using the smallest round cutter.

Knead and roll out the light brown fondant to a 1/8 “(1/3 cm) thickness. Cut out round shapes for the mouth using the oval cutter.

Make two tiny balls out of black fondant for the eyes. Also, make a slightly bigger ball and shape it into a triangle or oval with your fingers to form the nose.

Use a small brush and some water to attach all the pieces together as seen below.  Use the black marker to draw the mouth.

Let the bear face cupcake toppers dry on a flat surface.

Knead and roll out the yellow fondant to the same thickness. Cut out round shapes.

Roll two small balls of yellow fondant into a teardrop shape. Use the end of the paint brush (or a small ball tool) to make an indentation, a bit more at the base of the ear and less towards the tip.

Make two small balls out of white fondant for the moustache. Make two tiny balls out of black fondant for the eyes and a slightly bigger one for the nose.

Use the pointy end of the cone tool to mark the moustache and the end of the paint brush (or a small ball tool) to mark the mouth.

These are all adorable! Question: If I frost my cupcakes, can I just set these fondant animals on top? Or do I need to do something else to make sure they adhere properly? I’m new to fondant, so I wasn’t sure. Thank you!

They should stick to the frosting.

Sooo cute…. question when you add it to the cupcake does it necessarily have to have buttercream or can it be the elite whipped icing?

hi! I want to try making these for a friend’s baby’s 1 year old zoo party.

I’m a total newbie with fondant cupcakes. Are people supposed to eat the cake toppers? Or is it meant to harden completely and just plucked off?

June 14, 2015 at 2:37 PM

You can definitely eat the fondant toppers. They shouldn’t harden as much so that you can’t eat them… actually, if you live in a hot and humid climate the fondant will be softer and not harden as easily. Also, it depends how many days ahead you’re making the toppers. The longer they sit the dryer they get but it takes a good amount of time for them to harden out completely. Personally, I don’t like eating the fondant… it’s mostly made of sugar. But I love decorating with it :). I have friends who really like the fondant though :).

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a baby shower I am doing cupcakes for in 2 days and I was a little overwhelmed and considering cheating and just printing toppers for the cupcakes. Your tutorial is so simple, yet they look amazing and give me the hope that maybe I can pull this off! Thanks for sharing your talents!!

I hope you gave these cupcake toppers a try for the baby shower 🙂 . They take some time to make but the final result is worth the effort 🙂

How much in advance can these cake toppers be prepared and how to store them? Do you also have tutorials on making the actual cake with the fondant and all the details you added to it including the name, number 1 etc.?

March 18, 2015 at 10:08 PM

You can make the cupcake toppers 1 month ahead, let them dry completely and store them in a cardboard box in a dark place. The colors might fade if you leave them in sunlight. Don’t store them in airtight plastic containers or in the fridge as the fondant will become sticky. I’ve stored fondant decorations for several months (even 1 year) and they still looked good so if you need to make them more than 1 month in advance you’re safe to do so :). I’m planning to write the posts for the cake as well but I haven’t had a chance to do so yet.

Hope this helps!

March 20, 2015 at 3:14 PM

Thank you very much Roxy! I would really appreciate if you can post your tutorial on how to make the fondant animals & details for the main cake or direct me to the resources you used to make them. I’m planning on making it for my son’s first birthday on April 2nd. Most of the tutorial I found on youtube don’t look half as cute as yours. Thank you once again!

March 30, 2015 at 11:24 PM

So sorry DK but I’ll most likely not be able to post the tutorial in time for your son’s birthday. Dealing with a sick toddler these days. If it’s helpful at all, the tutorial for the teddy bear cake topper is already posted here – https://roxyskitchen.com/teddy-bear-fondant-cake-topper-tutorial.html

I used a simple leaf cutter to make the leaves for the palm trees. For the name I used these funky cutters – http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002INR2OE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002INR2OE&linkCode=as2&tag=roxskit-20&linkId=HZUM6D6YOVOUWKGX

For the wood sign I used an impression mat – http://www.amazon.com/FMM-Tree-Bark-Brick-Impression/dp/B001SSJWG6/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1427772006&sr=1-1&keywords=wood+impression+mat

For the flowers, you can use a small cutter or a plunger & cutter – http://www.amazon.com/Fox-Run-67003-4-Piece-Blossom/dp/B00AZMKCC4/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1427772208&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=flower+plunger+cuttoer

All other fondant figurines are shaped by hand.

Hi Daniell, You would need about 3. 5 – 4 pounds of fondant. I hope this helps and sorry for the late reply.

A jungle theme is a common kiddie party theme because there’s just something about animals in the wild that children find cool, mysterious, and amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the theme works for grownups, too. Contrary to popular belief, there are several ways to go about a jungle cake. This list of unique safari and jungle cake ideas will show you.

Having planned several jungle-themed parties for my nephews and friends in the past, I would admit that it can be a real struggle to find a cake that’s unique and different. That’s because when we talk about a jungle cake, we always picture the same elements: animals, trees, leaves, and a color palette that’s mainly brown and green. It’s almost always the same animals, too: lion, giraffe, elephant, and probably a monkey.

The good thing is that you can go for a jungle theme and veer away from the jungle cake cliché because there are some unique jungle cake ideas you can get inspiration from.

My Bottom Line Up Front

A jungle-themed cake is not just for little kids. Grownups, who love nature and animals, would appreciate a jungle cake, too. I would prefer something out of the usual fondant jungle cake with gum paste animals. I’d go for a number cake with buttercream topped with a mix of jungle animal decorations and the usual meringues, chocolates, fruits, and macarons.

Narrowing Down Jungle Cake Ideas

Getting unique jungle cake ideas may be difficult because you would have to sift through so many of the more common ones. So to help you save time, I have done it for you. In selecting these cakes, I made sure they fit the jungle or safari theme or that they have elements representing some of our favorite jungle animals.

I also look for the uniqueness factor. This is the tricky bit because “unique” is relative and could mean different things to different people. For me, however, jungle cakes are unique if they fit any of these criteria:

  • They apply any modern cake decorating trend.
  • They stay away from the traditional fondant animal models.
  • They stay away from using plastic trees and animal toys as toppers or decorations.
  • They are more experimental and adventurous with the use of colors.
  • They don’t stick to the usual color palette of greens and browns.
  • They are more creative in the representation of animals or jungle life.

Jungle Cake Ideas

1. baby jungle cake.

Jungle cakes with fondant animals are quite common and ordinary. So, some cakemakers give it a new — and cuter — twist by modeling the jungle animals as baby animals. The foliage will be done in fondant, too.

This uber-cute first birthday cake has buttercream frosting with a baby lion, baby giraffe, baby monkey, and baby elephant that are finely modeled in fondant. The leaves provide the foliage for this cake.

Here’s another take on baby jungle animals. This fondant cake also has a baby for a safari tour on a jeep. The name on the base is painted in gold, which is pretty trendy these days.

This jungle cake has baby animals in fondant, but it doesn’t have the usual green foliage. Instead, the leaves are pink and brushed with gold on the sides.

2. Cake with Gold-painted Toys

I know that little toy animals are overused as jungle cake toppers. But if you want a unique and modern twist to this otherwise very common jungle cake decoration, paint it gold. Gold, after all, is a very stylish color these days.

This three-tier buttercream birthday cake takes the jungle theme to a higher level by spray-painting the toy animals’ gold. This makes the toys look less plastic and cheap and classy. To make things more interesting, the cakemaker also wrapped the middle tier with a leopard print wafer paper, then topped the cake with dried pampas grass — both of which are modern cake decorating tools.

3. Prehistoric Jungle

Well, if you’ve decided on a jungle theme for your birthday, it doesn’t have to be the jungle as we know it now. You can go back to prehistoric times!z

This vanilla and Nutella jungle cake shows us exactly what we mean when we say prehistoric, with a T-rex and some plastic foliage right on top of it. The T-rex even has a little party hat and bowtie on and is holding a balloon! The cakemaker also showcases their piping skills on this one. That acrylic name in front of the cake adds a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Here’s another take on the prehistoric jungle cake. This time, T-rex is accompanied by a stegosaurus on top. The green pipings are still there to add texture and more greens to an otherwise overly basic cake.

The cakemaker decided to paint the dinosaurs gold for this buttercream cake. There are synthetic leaves for foliage and pallet knife elements on the sides.

4. Quilt-style Jungle Cake

This cute safari or jungle cake has an expertly executed quilted effect, with the fondant animals and other decorative elements sporting “stitches,” thus making them look like they were sewn.

5. Colorful Jungle Cake

A jungle theme doesn’t have to be dominantly green and brown. Experiment with color combinations. Or you can apply the celebrant’s favorite colors.

This fondant jungle cake, for example, is dominantly pink. Some of the leavers, the balls, the elephant’s ears, and the monkey’s party hat are pink.

More colors aren’t a bad idea. That’s what this fondant cake proves. The flowers give this cake a much-needed touch of pinks and purples, plus there’s a little bit of blue added to an otherwise green palette.

Of course, you can do a jungle theme sparingly, and for a lilac or lavender cake at that. There’s not even a tinge of green in sight. This fondant cake also proves that even if you only have an elephant and a monkey, that’s already enough.

6. Number Jungle Cake

Number cakes are very popular and in vogue right now. These are cakes that are shaped in a number from the top view, which number represents the birthday celebrant’s age. So why not incorporate the two concepts and make a number cake with a jungle theme?

This number cake for a baby girl’s first birthday showcases lots of bright colors. It has colorful cream pipings in various shapes and sizes, fondant animal faces, and fondant leaves. Here’s another safari number cake , for a baby boy turning a year old. This cake has a more subdued color palette. The theme is carried out through cookies with iced animal illustrations, leopard print, and leaves.

Take a look at this safari number cake with yellow and green piping. The animals are made of macarons.

7. King of the Jungle Cake with Synthetic Foliage

If you want a jungle-themed cake but want to keep things simple and avoid overcrowding your cake with too many animals, then just pick one. There’s no better choice than the king of the jungle himself: the lion.

A toy lion was painted gold for this cake. And just so nobody makes any mistake about him being the king of the jungle, a gold crown is there on top of the cake with him. Add some plastic foliage for more depth and more greens, sprinkle gold, silver, and white balls, then paint the sides with green buttercream using a pallet knife.

Another cake with just the lion roaring away. This cake has the trendy palm leaf in gold foil, chocolate balls, dried grass and leaves, and palette knife painting.

8. Paper-crafted Animal Toppers

You may want to consider making paper-crafted jungle animals as cake toppers. All you need are color boards or specialized paper products, a pair of scissors, glue, and sticks. If you have a Cricut machine, that would be swell, too!

This cake has animal toppers made out of a textured board.

You can also go for printed paper animal cutouts, like the ones on this cake . It’s also nice that this cake has palette knife painting on the side using soft pastel colors.

Paper animal toppers like these also look very cute on a cake.

You can create paper animals and punch leaves for your foliage .

9. Fondant Foliage

While fondant animal figures aren’t exactly a new and different thing, you can still make your cake look modern and stylish by using trendy foliage. Monstera leaves, for example, are quite trendy these days.

10. Palm Leaf + Stencil

This cake uses a combination of modern decorating techniques to turn an otherwise common theme and make it more contemporary-looking. As you can see, the cakemaker used the usual toy animals, but to give it a unique twist, they added a gold palm leaf and a buttercream stencil design on the side.

How about a light blue, white, and gold buttercream cake with gold palm leaf and subtle stencil at the front ? The animals are your usual toys from the dollar store, but they’ve been painted gold.

11. Piped Animal Frosting

Who says your jungle cake has to be three-dimensional? It could still look totally cute with a 2D decoration. By 2D I mean piping the design in colored buttercream icing on top of the cake so that it could be seen from the top view.

12. Edible Jungle Images

Edible images are pictures that are printed on edible icing paper using edible ink. So you can print jungle animals and use them as toppers. You can find suppliers or sellers online who could print the images you’d like.

Take this three-tier jungle Christening cake for example. All the animals are edible images, while the leaves are modeled from fondant.

13. Animal Cookie Toppers

You can pipe your design on a sugar or butter cookie using royal icing, then use the cookie as a topper. This cake, for instance, has lion and zebra cookies on top of the Swiss vanilla meringue buttercream.

These tiger and cheetah cookies are so meticulously done. They are painted using edible colors.

If you’re going for a prehistoric jungle, you can go for dinosaur cookies. These cookies have a dinosaur skeleton design and are dusted gold. The leaves are made of fondant.

14. Minimalist Jungle Cake

This cake is a great example of a minimalist cake. Its design details are very simple, with very basic shapes. Even the lion topper doesn’t require mad gum paste modeling skills.

15. Animal Fur Wrap Cakes

Edible image cake wraps are yet another cake decorating technique. These are designs or patterns printed on sugar sheets or wafer paper that you can wrap around the sides of your buttercream cake. You can get cake wraps with animal or fur prints for your jungle-themed cake.

This jungle cake has a different fur pattern for each layer. The first layer is wrapped in leopard print, the second layer in zebra print, and the third layer in giraffe print. Fondant animal figures are lounging on top of every tier.

16. The Lion is Not the Star

We can talk about jungles and leave the lions out of it. They’re not always the star of the show. With that being said, you can go ahead and let the giraffe or the zebra take the spotlight.

This pink jungle cake, for instance, only features a fondant giraffe and no other. Top it with dried bunny tails, pink blooms, pink monstera leaves, and pink macarons and you have one very feminine cake.

Here’s not just one, not just two, but three giraffes frolicking in the savanna. This cake is mostly beige and brown, with dried grass and brown buttercream smeared on the sides.

Here’s another gorgeous cake with a zebra at the center of it all. The zebra’s black and white stripes, as well as the black and white cake wrapper, provide a dramatic contrast against the pink surface of the cake.

And why not a giraffe and a zebra together ?

This cake only has a giraffe and an elephant. But what I probably find more unique is that the first tier is in a shade of green I don’t usually see in a jungle cake.

17. No Animals, No Problem

This jungle cake shows you that you can stay true to the theme even without animals involved. You only need leaves, something that says “wild,” and you’re ready.

18. Animal Silhouette Cake

You can cut out animal silhouettes from glittery paper and put them on your buttercream cake. Add a glittery acrylic topper, like this “Wild One” topper, and some foliage to complete the look.

19. Wooden Animal Cutouts

You can use wooden animal cutouts for your toppers or ornaments and add a combination of synthetic and real dried leaves.

20. Two-Tone Jungle Cake

Again, there are ways to make your jungle cake unique and elegant even if you decided to use toys from the dollar store. How? Use modern decorating styles and two-tone frosting.

This cake, for example, has buttercream frosting in white and a very soft pistachio green. Spice it up with gold palm leaf, gold names, dried pampas grass, and colored chocolate balls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer: Technically, jungle and safari are two different things. A jungle is a forest with densely overgrown trees and tangled vegetation, while a safari refers to a trip or excursion. In other words, a jungle is a place while a safari is more of an activity. But when it comes to party themes, you can apply either “jungle” or “safari” to refer to anything about animals in the wild like giraffes, lions, rhinos, elephants, tigers, monkeys, and more.

Answer: Jungle cake pricing depends on a lot of things. It would depend on the kind of cake you want, the flavor and the ingredients needed to make it, the frosting, the design, the size, and the decorative techniques and elements used. Cake prices also vary from baker to baker because of varying skill levels. If you want to have an idea of how much you need to set aside or allot for your cake budget, the best option is to call bakeshops and inquire. You can give them a picture or a description of the cake you want to order, they will suggest flavors based on their specialty, and they can give you an estimated price.

Answer: Jungle cakes are usually great for birthdays and even baby showers. Sometimes, the jungle theme is used for other celebrations, too, like Christening and even graduations. The theme is mostly used for kids since they’re usually the ones who are most fascinated with animals. Of course, I don’t mean to say that the theme doesn’t suit adults, because as long as you love animals and the wild, a jungle cake would still be a great idea.

Jungle-themed cakes have been around for as long as I can remember. So it’s safe to say that the jungle or safari theme never goes out of style. I think part of what makes the theme attractive is the fact that it’s more generic and you have more freedom to give it your own spin and your own interpretation. You don’t need to refer to a particular character or a specific color palette.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

safari animals cake topper printable

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

safari animals cake topper printable

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

safari animals cake topper printable

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

safari animals cake topper printable

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

I’m still not convinced this Moscow wedding, captured to perfection by  Sonya Khegay , isn’t actually an inspiration session—it’s just  that breathtaking. From the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous lace wedding dress and flawless hair and makeup to the pretty pastel color palette and stunning ceremony and reception spaces, this wedding is almost too good to be true. Do yourself a favor and see it all in The Vault now!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

You really can’t go wrong with simple: a beautiful Bride , perfectly pretty petals , loved ones all around. But add in an amazing firework show  to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by  Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. See it all in the Vault right here !

From Lena Eliseeva Photo …  This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

These photos from Lena Kozhina are so stunningly beautiful – as in you can’t help but stop and stare – it’s hard to believe it’s real life. But these pics are proof of this gorgeous Bride and her handsome Groom’s celebration at Moscow’s Fox Lodge , surrounded by vibrant colors and breathtaking blooms . Oh, and the idea of prepping for your Big Day outside in the sun ? Brilliant. See more bright ideas right here !

safari animals cake topper printable

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.
