What is the Difference Between a Residential King and an RV King Mattress?

The difference between a residential king and an RV version is that the RV King and RV Short King can be shorter and narrower by a small amount. RV designers did this to make sure the mattresses fit in some of the more narrow slideout boxes or other narrower situations.

There are a few fundamental differences within that shorter versus longer spectrum. Just like residential kings come in standard and California kings, RV kings have differences too. There are four RV king mattress sizes :

• RV Short King – 75″ x 72″
• RV King – 80″ x 72″
• Eastern King – 80″ x 76″
• RV California King – 84″ x 72″

Can You Put a Residential King Mattress in a Travel Trailer?

In some cases, it’s possible to place a residential king mattress in a travel trailer that uses an RV king or Queen mattress. However, you need to do a few things first. You have to measure how much additional space the new bigger mattress will take up in your RV’s master bedroom and see if it will fit between the side furniture and still leave you walking space around it.

You may have to replace the platform that the mattress will lay on to support it. Modifying the existing one may work, but if the dimensions of the plyboard isn’t wide enough, you will have to replace it.

This may also include adding stronger lift arms to hold the increased weight of the new mattress and a bigger platform. To give you an idea, here are the dimensions for all of the available residential king mattresses on the market.

However, queen beds are often quite enough. With no dogs and still, quiet sleeping, there’s more than enough room for a queen.

What Kind of King Mattress Can You Get for Your Travel Trailer?

The kind of mattress you get for your travel trailer depends on your personal needs. For instance, a mattress is needed to help with spine or allergy problems. There are generally four types: Latex, spring, memory foam, and air. Each has its advantages and drawbacks.

Spring mattresses are often airier, but the springs are susceptible to rust in hot and humid regions, especially if your RV goes into storage and the mattress is unused for an extended period. Memory foam is great for lower back pain but isn’t very airy. It’s also heat-sensitive, so the elasticity will wear out over time. Even with the cooling foam technology, a stored RV that heats up can affect the elasticity.

What Are the Dimensions of a King Bed in Travel Trailers?

King mattresses come in a variety of sizes and dimensions, so you will need to look around to find the perfect one for you. However, you can usually assume that king-size beds will range from 74 to 76 inches wide by 76 to 80 inches long.

California King beds are approximately 72 inches wide by 84 inches long. So for you taller folks out there a California King may be the perfect king-size bed for you but we have never seen a travel trailer with a California King bed yet. And we have toured and reviewed thousands of trailers.

It’s also important to remember that RV mattresses have different dimensions compared to residential mattresses. And many manufacturers do not list the actual bed size in their specs. Some just say King Bed but who knows what size the bed is.

RV mattresses are usually smaller than the ones you use at home. So be sure to bring your tape measure like I do when we tour RVs to make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

When you are shopping for a new trailer, there are several things you need to consider when looking at the bed it comes with.

These factors will have a serious impact on which RV you purchase, so it is important to take your time with the process. By taking your time you will ensure that you purchase the best RV possible. 

1. How Many People Will Be Sleeping in the Travel Trailer?

The most important thing to figure out before you purchase an RV or travel trailer is how many people will be sleeping in it at a time. This affects the size of the trailer you are going to purchase, and it affects how many beds you are going to need. It will also have an effect on the types of beds you want in your trailer. 

If you are planning on traveling with your spouse, then it might be a good idea to get a king-size bed. It is large enough for both of you to sleep in and is more space-efficient than two twin beds.

However, if you are planning on mostly traveling with your friends, it might not be in your best interest to purchase a king-size bed. Instead, you might be better off getting a trailer with several twin beds to save space. If you are the only one that will be sleeping in the king bed, then it is a waste of space.

Especially after a long day of hiking, biking, or swimming, nothing feels better than coming home to your comfy king bed.

There are tons of travel trailers out there with large, king sized beds so you don’t have to sacrifice your sleeping comfort just because you’re in a trailer.

Why a Travel Trailer with a King Bed?

• More sleeping room: Of course, this is the obvious one. If you have a king bed at home and don’t want to downsize, you don’t have to! King beds mean you can fit one more person in your RV since three people can sleep relatively comfortably in a king bed.
• Bedroom suites: Many travel trailers with king beds have enclosed, private bedrooms. This means if you’re traveling with family, you’ll be able to escape to your bedroom suite that’s usually separated from the living area and other sleeping areas. 
• High-end trailers: A travel trailer with king bed is definitely considered a luxury amenity. This means that trailers with king beds generally have “fancier” amenities overall. If you pick a travel trailer with a king bed you’ll likely have other amenities that are just as luxurious as a king bed.

Are Camping Trailer King Beds the Same as Regular King Beds?

A residential king bed is 76 inches wide, and 80 inches long. They’re the same length as a queen bed but they’re over a foot wider.

In travel trailers with king beds, it’s very rare to find a bed that’s 76 inches wide. Typical travel trailers will have an “RV king” which will be between 70 and 74 inches wide. 

King size beds in travel trailers are not as wide as residential beds simply because there’s only so much space to work with inside a travel trailer.

Here are my top 12 travel trailers with king beds. I’ve included a mix of small, mid-sized, and very large travel trailers with king beds so there are plenty of options for you…

Heartland North Trail 25RBP

Key features: 

• Gel-infused king mattress
• Residential interior doors
• 3 burner cooktop
• Double bathroom sinks

The Heartland North Trail is a mid-sized travel trailer with residential-style features. Seriously… the inside of the trailer really looks like you’re inside a luxury condo.

The king sized bed is gel-infused and it’s located at the front of the trailer. The bedroom area has overhead cabinetry storage surrounding the bed and led lighting. 

On either side, you’ll get a small shelf that acts as a nightstand, underneath two nicely sized windows. There’s a sliding privacy door that separates it from the kitchen area.

In the kitchen and dining area are a four-person dinette, and a large lounge. At the back of the trailer, you get a large bathroom with TWO sinks and a large walk-in shower.

Altogether, the Heartland North Trail sleeps four people.

Venture RV SportTrek Touring STT333VMI

Key Features:

• Comfortable king mattress
• Washer/dryer prep
• Three slide outs
• Kitchen island
• Outside kitchen

The floorplan of the Venture RV SportTrek Touring has some great privacy that gives the bedroom a true master bedroom feeling. 

The 70” x 80” king-size bed is located all the way at the back of the trailer, and there’s an electric fireplace right in the bedroom!!! Plus, you get washer/dryer prep right in your bedroom closet.

Separating the bedroom from the living area is a large bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The kitchen has tons of floor space with an island in the middle and a residential-style dining table.

The tri-fold sofa sits at the very front of the trailer and adds extra sleeping room.

The Venture RV SportTrek Touring also has an outdoor “campfire kitchen” with a griddle, sink, and refrigerator all underneath one of two awnings.

Cruiser RV Embrace EL210

• Patent-pending king-size sliding bed
• Tri-folding sofa
• Sleeps up to 6
• Exterior speaker system
• Underbelly storage space

At just 25 feet, the Cruiser RV Embrace is on the smaller end of travel trailers with king-size beds. 

Cruiser RV markets the Embrace EL210 as a “couples coach”, but it can sleep up to six people with the tri-fold sofa.

The Embrace has a couple of pretty unique features, like a full underbelly storage system, as well as exterior speakers.

The most unique feature of the Cruiser RV travel trailers is the patent-pending sliding king-size bed. 

The system allows you to slide the bed over to one side. This creates 12 inches of extra floor space in the bedroom whenever you need it.  The bedroom, though, isn’t much of a “master bedroom” since it’s basically in the same room as the kitchen and living room area. 

So, this Cruiser RV travel trailer will definitely work better for just two people who may occasionally bring friends or family along.

Winnebago Voyage V3235RL

Key Features: 

• Opposing slide outs
• King size bed with nightstands and wardrobes on either side
• Large kitchen pantry
• Tri-fold sofa

The Winnebago Voyage V3235RL is a larger travel trailer with a king bed and residential-style amenities. The two slide outs in the living area make the space feel very large. The kitchen area comes with an island and a large sink surrounded by counter space. 

Plus, there’s a four-person dining area, reclining theater seats, and a tri-fold sofa. Sweet!

The master bedroom offers tons of privacy as it’s separated by a door from the rest of the trailer. Winnebago offers an upgrade to a king-size bed in all of the Voyage floor plans for a few hundred bucks.

The bedroom has a wardrobe and nightstand on either side of the 72” x 80” king size bed. You’ve also got washer/dryer prep in the closet of the bedroom. The bathroom is between the living area and the bedroom and has a really nice large walk-in shower.

Jayco White Hawk 30FLS

• U-shaped dinette
• Tri-fold couch
• Double basin kitchen sink
• Double bathroom sinks in the master suite
• TV cabinet space facing king bed

The Jayco White Hawk is a very popular travel trailer with a king bed. The bedroom itself really feels like you could be in a master bedroom at your house. 

The 72” x 80” king size bed is tucked under overhead storage cabinets and faces a wardrobe with a TV. On one side of the bathroom, you’ll also get two large wardrobes and a bench in between them.

(The master bedroom also has its own private entrance!)

In the middle of the trailer is the large bathroom area, which has two sinks and lots of counter space. 

The living area in the Jayco White Hawk has a u-shaped dinette and a tri fold sofa, along with a large double basin sink.

The entertainment center in the living area faces the tri-fold sofa and has an electric fireplace underneath.

Dutchmen Kodiak Ultimate 2921FKDS

• Hinged cabinets cover entryway
• Electric fireplace in master bedroom
• Tons of counter space
• Booth dinette
• Electric reclining seats
• Heated underbelly

The Dutchmen Kodiak has one of my favorite floorplans I’ve seen in a travel trailer. The king bedroom is completely private, separated from the living area by the bathroom with doors on either side.

In the bedroom, you get three large windows, an electric fireplace, and an entertainment center. Plus overhead storage cabinetry, LED lighting, and two wardrobes.

The living area is completely closed off by a hinged door, so you can’t even tell you’re in an RV when you’re hanging out in the kitchen.

The pullout offers lots of extra floor space and natural lighting from the windows above the entertainment chairs and booth dinette. The kitchen in this trailer has maybe the most countertop space I’ve seen in any travel trailer. 

So, this kitchen is great if you love to cook when you’re on the road and find you need to use a lot of counter space for prepping.

Cruiser RV Shadow Cruiser 215RBS

• Sliding king size bed
• Work from home desk space
• Just 22 feet in length
• Curtain for master bedroom privacy

Cruiser RV’s Shadow Cruiser is the smallest travel trailer with a king bed I’ve found. It’s just 22 feet long!

The Shadow Cruiser is another couple’s coach from Cruiser RV. It’s made for two but can sleep up to six. The king size bed is enclosed by a curtain and has Cruiser RV’s sliding system for extra elbow room on either side of the bed.

The living area has a u-shaped dinette and an L-shaped kitchen with lots of kitchen space.

At the back is a space that’s designed for you to use if you work from home–half the back wall is a desk with some storage underneath. Next to the work area is a mid-sized bathroom with lots of counter space.

If you don’t have the towing capacity to lug around a huge 40 foot trailer, the dainty 22 foot Shadow Cruiser is a great option for you.

It’s especially great if you plan to travel by yourself, with a partner, and you really need a good workspace with you. Plus, there’s lots of extra sleeping room in case you want to bring friends and family with you.

Palomino Puma 31FKRK

The Palomino Puma is a large trailer with a large living space and a private master bedroom. The living space is a large room with a tri-fold sofa, a dinette, and reclining seats that face the entertainment center.

The kitchen area has a three-burner stove and an overhead microwave. You’ll also get a large kitchen sink with a high-rise faucet and tons of counter space.

The king-size bed is located in one of two pull-outs in the trailer, which makes the room feel very spacious. 

There isn’t any room on either side of the king bed, but you do get overhead cabinet space and a large wardrobe. Plus, there’s a closet with washer/dryer prep in the corner of the bedroom.

The bathroom in the Puma is pretty standard. It separates the king bedroom from the living area and has a shower, sink, toilet, and small linen closet.

But the biggest plus? The whole trailer has heated floors so you can have nice warm feet on cold mornings. YES!

• Walk-in closet
• Walk-in pantry

Forest River’s Vibe 28RB has tons of fancy amenities and built-in features that might catch your eye if you’re looking for a trailer that feels like home.

The bedroom is totally private and has a 72” x 80” king size bed with storage underneath. There are nightstands with USB charging ports on either side of the bed, and overhead storage above.

The bedroom also offers a walk-in closet with washer/dryer prep behind a barn door. The whole bedroom area is enclosed by a really gorgeous country chic barn door.

The living area features in the Vibe are pretty standard, except that it has a very large refrigerator and a walk-in pantry!! In the bathroom, you’ll get two large linen closets, a toilet, shower, and sink. Outside, the Vibe has a little outdoor kitchen with an induction cooktop.

Plus, panoramic windows wrap around the living area. And the whole thing comes with solar in the standard package.

Keystone RV Cougar Half-Ton 22MLS

• Hardwood cabinetry
• King bed with underbed storage
• Indoor stereo system in entertainment center

The Cougar Half-Ton is a mid-sized trailer from Keystone RV with a really gorgeous interior. The travel trailer has hardwood cabinetry throughout, and heated flooring. 

In the kitchen, you’ll get a large double basin stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet. Plus a booth dinette with a TV above it, and a large pantry. 

The bathroom is pretty standard, with a toilet, sink, shower, and sliding door. 

The king bedroom is separated from the rest of the space by a curtain. You’ll get underbed storage in the 70” x 80” king bed, and nightstands on either side.

The nightstands are set up with USB charging ports. The bedroom comes fitted with a “platinum series” king mattress which Keystone claims is very comfortable.

This travel trailer also comes with some pretty sweet extras, like a shoe cubby right when you walk in the door, and solar panels in the base package.

Highland Ridge Open Range Light 275RLS

• Kitchen island with sink
• Lots of daytime seating
• Two pullouts
• Outdoor kitchenette
• Laundry chute in bedroom

The Highland Ridge Open Range is a larger travel trailer with a king suite and tons of living space.

The king bedroom is pretty roomy for a travel trailer bedroom. It has lots of storage space, plus nightstands on both sides of the bed.

The bedroom also has a laundry chute, which is a super unique feature I haven’t seen in any other travel trailer. You’ll also get a wardrobe with washer/dryer prep inside.

The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, a sink, and a toilet, and is enclosed by a sliding door. The living area has lots of floor space because of the two opposing pullouts.

On one side are two theater seats and a dinette, and on the other are all your kitchen appliances, an entertainment center, and an electric fireplace. There’s also a kitchen island in the center of the space. In the very back, you’ll get a tri fold sofa for extra sleeping space.

The Lance 2465 is a great mid-range travel trailer perfect for couples.

The king size bed is located in a pull out, which makes the bedroom feel super spacious. The large windows in the bathroom add a lot of natural light to the space. 

There’s a huge entertainment center in the bedroom, with a 40” TV, and wardrobes on both sides. The second pull-out is located at the dinette, and has wrap-around windows.

The underbelly of the trailer is totally enclosed and heated, so this trailer is perfect for winter camping. 

The standard package also comes with a roof rack for hauling kayaks, skis, or whatever outdoor equipment you have!

What Types of King Mattresses Can You Get for Your Trailer?

Although many RV manufacturers claim that their mattresses are ultra-comfortable, this isn’t always the case. RV mattresses are notoriously thin and uncomfortable, so many people opt to purchase a mattress separately. 

If you do want to pick your own mattress, there are a few different options out there. I’ll explain them and why I’d recommend (or not recommend) any of the following options.

Air Mattress: Not Recommended

Air mattresses are one option for a king mattress in travel trailers. However, I really do not recommend them because they can be really uncomfortable. Plus, you have to inflate them pretty often. 

If you’re going to invest in a king sized bed for your travel trailer, invest in a quality mattress as well. An air mattress doesn’t really cut it unless it’s just temporary use.

Residential Memory Foam Mattress: Comfortable But Might Not Fit

Memory foam mattresses like the ones you buy online and are shipped to your house in a box are super comfortable. (If you have one, you know).

These are a super comfortable option for an RV king mattress, but you’ll have to make sure they will fit in the given space. 

Since some RV king beds can be as small as 70 inches wide, the extra 6 inches on a residential mattress just might not fit in the layout of the RV.

Mattress Toppers: Great to Boost Comfort

Memory foam mattress toppers are a great option if you find your mattress is a tiny bit uncomfortable. A mattress topper will not fix all your problems, but it’ll just boost the comfort of a thin mattress a bit.

These are inexpensive and can be cut to fit the size of your mattress. You can also order a custom-sized topper from Mattress Insider .

However, they might slide around a bit and aren’t a permanent solution to a highly uncomfortable mattress.

Yes you can, though it might not be a perfect fit.

Typical king bed dimensions in a travel trailer are between 70 and 74 inches wide whereas a residential king mattress is 76 inches wide.

Can I put a king bed in a queen sized space in my travel trailer?

If your travel trailer has a queen size bed and you want a king, it is possible to put a king bed in the travel trailer.

You’ll need to make sure, most importantly, that there’s enough room on either side of the queen bed for a king bed to fit in the space.

Then, you may have to add some extra supports for the overhang of the mattress.

A king bed in a travel trailer may seem like a big luxury, but it’s not really such a huge reach.

You don’t necessarily have to shell out a ton of cash or purchase a huge rig to find a travel trailer with a nice comfy king bed.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options out there, from large trailers with king beds in master suites and tons of extra sleeping room, to studio-style couple’s trailers.

Just a FYI for would-be buyers of new travel trailers (and any other type), make sure the PDI is complete and ALL warranty repairs conducted before you leave the lot. Especially if you are not from that area and plan on taking it home in another state.

The dealers in your home state may not conduct warranty work on your trailer since you didn’t buy it from them and can’t be bothered with you. Service work may not be available as well if you didn’t buy it from them. They prioritize service techs for people that bought from them. Lastly, they may perform warranty repairs, but make you pay for the warranty work upfront and YOU then have to make your case to the Manufacturer for reimbursement.

Just my experience in my area. Your experience will vary. Find out if you can get warranty work for your trailer in your area IF you bought it elsewhere.

Buyers can choose either a stand-alone table and chairs or a cozy dinette for mealtimes.

Considering the relatively small size of the trailer, the bathroom is impressively appointed, with a 34×34 inch shower and skylight. It sits adjacent to the master bedroom, which offers a king sized bed and two wardrobes for storage. A second TV can be hooked up in the bedroom, if desired. There’s also a washer/dryer option if you plan on taking longer journeys.

These thoughtful touches combine to make the Puma 31FKRK feel more like a home than a camper. If you only need sleeping space for up to six people, this could be right up your alley.

Despite the fact that it sleeps only four people, the Prime Time LaCrosse 3299SE offers a remarkable amount of living space. The LaCrosse line is Prime Time’s premier brand, and this particular model puts that luxury on full display, with a solid construction that elevates it into a true home away from home.

In the master suite, you’ll find a wardrobe and overhead storage in addition to the king bed. The bedroom adjoins the sleeping area and offers a large shower in addition to the sink and flush toilet. We’re not crazy about the fact that the only entrance to the bathroom is situated just steps away from the bed, but couples and solo travelers aren’t likely to mind.

Theater seating and a plump pull-out sofa offer a place to unwind and enjoy the entertainment center. The kitchen takes center stage, with a free-standing dinette, sink, refrigerator, pantry, and hutch. There’s also an outdoor cooking station with a grill and separate fridge for cold beverages.

In addition to measuring just under 37 feet in length, this camper has a relatively low dry weight of 8,149 pounds. As such, it would be a solid option for beginners, especially if your vehicle can only tow modest loads.

The North Trail line is distinguished by open, airy living spaces that allow for lively conversation and relaxed evenings. This is one of the smaller options, but the oversized windows promote a spacious feel, along with prime views of the outdoors.

The interior provides a sizable feast for the eyes as well. A front-facing master bedroom pairs the king-sized bed with a wardrobe and space for a washer/dryer. The bathroom is cubbyhole-sized, but still manages to make room for a stall shower. It can be accessed through either the bedroom or the hallway , a perk that’s usually reserved for larger campers.

A center island with double sinks gives the kitchen area a gourmet vibe. Along the rear wall, an oversized refrigerator sits alongside a three-burner stovetop range. A pull-out sofa can sleep an additional two people. If you take advantage of the two slide-outs, the space opens up still further, with a table, four chairs, and two theater-style recliners.

Like the Sportsmen Destination model, the Sprinter Limited 333FKS has a king bed that measures just 70 inches wide. In our opinion, though, the additional space you’ll get in the bedroom is well worth the sacrifice.

Along with the bed—which is still larger than you’ll find in most small travel trailers—the sleeping area contains a wardrobe, dresser, and overhead storage. A linen closet and radius shower can be found in the adjacent bathroom. From the trifold sofa, campers can enjoy either a flickering fire, or their choice of media on the nearby entertainment center. A slide-out offers additional theater seating and a table that seats four.

The kitchen contains a center island with three-burner range, as well as a huge sink, double refrigerator, microwave, and ample pantry space. We’re particularly fond of the way the front-facing kitchen is configured, as it doesn’t interfere with the rest of the living area. Take a closer look at the 333FKS if you prefer a bedroom that offers space to walk around in, as well as a larger bed.

Not only are Jayco RVs well-built and thoughtful, but they are also beautiful in terms of what they have to offer on the inside. The interior design of the Seneca is elegant and charming, especially given the fact that this is a luxury rig. You can tell in the details, whether it be the cabinetry or the flooring, or even the matching shower surrounds and tile backsplashes.

Just like the past two options on this list, we have another luxurious Super C to take a look at. The Newmar Super Star is the most expensive option on this list, starting at $455k. While this price point may be outlandish for a number of RV shoppers, the Super Star offers a number of king bed floor plans. 

With 4 floor plans all offering king size beds, the sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing a Super Star floor plan that works well for you. There’s an option with a master suite, including an ensuite bathroom , or you can get a bunk bed layout for the kiddos.

It’s obvious that you are inside another class of motorhome when you step on board a Newmar Super Star. The interior design is intricate and stunning, with plenty of wood details and luxurious upholstery. Plus, the kitchen truly feels like it belongs in a residential condo or apartment. 

There’s a lot to love about this Class C RV for full-time living as well. You can get washer and dryer prep and all available for plans, and you can even add on a dishwasher should this be something you’re interested in. Plus, this Super C has an extremely high towing capacity and the diesel engine makes it more efficient than a gasoline one. 

Besides the price, you may not want this RV given the fact that it is quite large. This is truly like driving around a small apartment, given the size of its engine and the interior features. However, if you are looking for an absolutely stunning RV, the Super Star may be a good choice for you. 

Most Storage: Dynamax Isata 5

• A Super C with a lower price tag than others
• Compact king bed floor plan
• Plenty of interior and exterior storage
• Interior design isn’t special

With a king bed floor plan starting at $262k, the Dynamax Isata 5 has a lot to offer. This is another Super C, though the king floor plan rests on a 35-foot frame, making it slightly easier to drive than the prior options on this list. Let’s check it out!

One of the best parts about the Isata 5 is the fact that it has an extremely private king bedroom suite. While there’s only one bathroom on board this RV, the king bed is located at the very back of the rig, with its own door and no other need for anyone to walk through in the night. 

The rest of this RV is open and spacious, with optional Theater seating or recliners, and a well-appointed kitchen. Arguably, the biggest fault in the Isata 5 is the fact that it doesn’t have a particularly inspired interior design, especially when you consider the price point of this RV. 

However, there’s still a lot to love about this particular Class C RV, especially when you consider the diesel engine and ample storage found both inside and out. You have a 10,000 pound towing capacity, making it easy to bring along whatever else you want. And the exterior storage gives you plenty of space for your bikes or kayaks . 

While it only sleeps up to 5, there’s still ample room for everyone to hang out inside, especially if the weather isn’t ideal outside. Plus, there are a number of upgrades you can make to make this RV feel even more comfortable, so long as you are okay going beyond the initial purchase price! 

Most Compact: Jayco Greyhawk

• Jayco brand is popular 
• Compact king bed floor plan 
• Pleasant and convenient interior design 
• Single king bed floor plan may need work 

Likely one of Jayco’s more popular RV options, the Greyhawk has one king bed floor plan that’s perfect for a number of lifestyles. Not only does it feel like home on the inside- it all comes on a frame that is under 30 feet. Let’s take a look at this compact Class C now!

Jayco is here to prove that you don’t need a Super C in order to have a king bed on board. The Grayhawk offers a single floor plan with a king bed, though you can get it with theater seating or a larger refrigerator as an additional option. Overall, this floor plan works well for full-timers just as well as Weekend Warriors. 

While this rig can sleep up to 7 people, you should keep in mind that the only bathroom on board is located through the king bedroom. This may be an inconvenience for those of you looking for a floor plan with a more accessible bathroom , but having the ability to sleep so many people is also a plus. 

Overall, The Grayhawk has a lot of fantastic interior touches not offered by other options in this price bracket. You can find backsplash in the kitchen, wood detailing above your storage compartments, and much more. Jayco always offers its customers unique interior design, so this is a great perk for those of you who might be looking for it. 

The price point on this option is also fair, especially when you consider all of the warranties offered by Jayco. However, the single king bed floor plan may not work well if you need a bathroom with more separation from the bedroom! 

More Than One Bed: Thor Pasadena

• 3 floor plans, all with King beds 
• Interior design is elegant and comfortable 
• Plenty of features included in the initial purchase price 
• Large rig and large price point 

Yes, we are back to looking at Super C options, which means that you might want to keep scrolling if you are looking for something smaller. However, the Thor Pasadena has plenty to offer RVers, especially if they’re seeking a floor plan with more than one bed. Let’s take a look at it now. 

Offering 3 floor plans with tilting and lifting King beds, the Pasadena has another floor plan option with two bunk beds as well. This gives you plenty of sleeping space for everyone, especially if you plan on bringing the kids with you on your camping trip. 

Starting at $347k, this is yet another RV that may just be too expensive to consider. However, there’s enough luxury and convenience in the Pasadena that it’s worth a second look, especially when you take a look at the interior design.

There’s dark cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and so much more to love about this Class C. With the bunk bed model, you can sleep nearly ten people , and there’s tons of space to hang out inside during the day. Plus, your king bedroom is private in just about any floor plan you choose.

Another perk to the Pasadena is the fact that it has a number of great features, included standard. It has solar panels, a 15,000 pound towing capacity, plenty of exterior storage, and a chef’s kitchen.

However, at the end of the day, it may simply cost too much and be much larger than what you are looking for. If you are planning on camping with a number of people, or simply want a more spacious rig to live in full-time, then definitely check out the Pasadena. 

Best Conversion: Winnebago View

• Diesel engine and Mercedes-Benz chassis 
• Modern and attractive interior design 
• Two twin bed floor plan converts into a large king size bed 
• High price point, especially considering the size of the RV 

The Winnebago View is only 25 feet long , but it offers a twin bed conversion floor plan that allows you to sleep in a king size bed. Starting at $197k, the Winnebago View is a great choice for those of you seeking a diesel engine without a Super C sized RV. Let’s check it out in detail now. 

You can only sleep up to four people on board this RV, but you likely don’t want to sleep any more than that given the size of it. This Class C RV is ideal for couples or families, and it has a luxurious finish that suits a variety of lifestyles. 

There are curved storage cabinets throughout, finished in an attractive wood grain, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook up a delicious meal. The color schemes offered by Winnebago are contemporary and modern so that you don’t go traveling without the comforts of home. 

You will have plenty of exterior storage as well as interior storage, which means you don’t have to worry about leaving anything behind. In addition to this, the View comes equipped with solar prep, and you can add a number of boondocking features to this Class C RV. 

Given the fact that it is more compact and built on the safe and reliable Mercedes-Benz chassis, you may want to take this RV boondocking more often than not. It has a lot to offer if you’re an adventurous couple, especially when you consider that the twin beds convert into a large king bed! 

However, this RV may be too small depending on the number of people you want to travel with. In addition, the price point may feel a bit high, especially when you consider just how small and compact this RV is. It’s definitely something to think about as you shop! 

Runner-Up: Entegra Coach Esteem

• Elegant and charming interior design 
• Fairly private king size bedroom 
• A few upgrades worth considering 
• Higher price point and gasoline fuel 

If the Thor Four Winds was not as impressive as you wanted it to be for our best overall choice, our runner-up option may suit you better. The Entegra Coach Esteem is a Class C with a lot to offer, though it does only have a single king bed floor plan. Let’s take a closer look at it now.

Just under thirty feet long, the king bed floor plan on the Esteem has a lot to offer both the full timer and the casual RV user. While the bedroom isn’t completely private, the bathroom is accessible without having to walk entirely through the bedroom, giving it a bit more coziness compared to other options on this list. 

The interior design is where the Esteem shines over the Four Winds. It has plenty of details throughout, including kitchen backsplash, wood finishes, and upholstery which is unique. Plus, there are plenty of upgrades to consider as well. 

You can get a larger refrigerator, a dual fuel refrigerator, and upgraded rims for your rig. Additionally, Entegra Coach offers theater seating and an additional AC unit , should you find that you need to stay cool!

All in all, the Esteem has a lot to offer, though the price point may be higher than what you were looking for. However, this is an extremely well-rounded Class C RV, especially when you consider the size and luxurious features found throughout!

The company is located in Middlebury, IN. All their towables and fifth wheels come with a 3-year limited structural warranty. Imagine XLS is one of my favorites due to its excellent styling, features, and amenities. Grand Design has only been around since 2001 and today it operates as an independent business within Winnebago Industries. This line of campers is definitely on our short list of the best travel trailer brands in 2023.

Why I Recommend the Grand Design Imagine

The Imagine travel trailer line is my preferred bumper-pull from this RV manufacturer. There are several reasons I like the Imagine trailer. First off, it comes in 21 different floor plans. Even the smallest model comes with a queen-sized bed. There is no way I would want a travel trailer with anything smaller than a queen bed.

Imagine a travel trailer built like a fortress, designed to withstand whatever Mother Nature might throw at it. That’s what Oliver offers – each trailer is constructed with a double-hull fiberglass shell. This gives superior protection against all weather conditions. It’s not inexpensive, but is a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality and durability.

It’s like getting a tailor-made suit, but this one’s an RV made to fit your camping style and needs.

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2 pictured above is my favorite model and probably one of their top-rated all-fiberglass campers. I like the Elite 2 for several reasons. I like that it has a dry weight of just 4,600 pounds. It can be towed with a good truck or full-size SUV. Keep in mind that 4,600 pounds is just the dry weight. For towing, you need to consider cargo weight too.

The Legacy Elite 2 comes in two-floor plans. One with twin beds and the with a dinette to 75″ x 79″ bed conversion. This model is loaded with standard features.

Another of our selected best travel trailers is Winnebago. With a history spanning over 50 years, Winnebago is a well-known and respected brand in the RV industry. Headquartered in Forest River, Iowa, the company builds a huge selection of RVs, including high-quality motorhomes, campers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers.

Winnebago makes five popular travel trailer models as of 2023. One of the best travel trailer brands for new RVers and experienced ones alike is the Micro Minnie (which replaced the older Minnie Drop model that made our former list of the best travel trailers.

What I Like About the Micro Minnie

These little marvels of RV engineering manage to pack a ton of amenities into a small, easy-to-tow package, proving that you don’t have to go big to enjoy the perks of home on the road.

Despite their size, Micro Minnies don’t skimp on the essentials. Step inside to enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen that comes with a double-door refrigerator, a three-burner stove, and even a microwave. So, whether you’re warming up last night’s leftovers or cooking a full-course meal, you’ve got everything you need right there.

With a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 5,500 to 6,000 pounds, depending on the model, they can be comfortably towed by a variety of vehicles. Mid-size SUVs, pickup trucks, and some of the beefier crossovers make suitable companions for these compact travel trailers.

If you’re looking for an ultralight travel trailer that brings a smile to your face and makes RVing a breeze, Happier Camper travel trailers are it. These compact and retro lightweight travel trailers are winning the hearts of people who want a small trailer that can be towed by a typical passenger car.

Happier Camper trailers are incredibly versatile. Their “Adaptiv” furniture anf cabinetry are made as modular cubes. This lets you customize the layout to suit your specific needs for any camping trip. The modular system includes lightweight cubes that can be rearranged to create a comfortable sleeping area, a cozy dining space, or even a mobile office for those who can’t leave work behind.

One thing to keep in mind with the Happier Camper is that it does not have a typical toilet setup. The Happier Camper has a “ Dry Flush” toilet for RVs . That is the only drawback I see to this camper trailer. Remember, it is small, so don’t expect much room, but that is how it’s been designed. It’s modern, and makes exceptional use of the small interior.

#6. starcraft rv autumn ridge.

Another of our picks with a long history in the RV industry, Starcraft, started making metal farm equipment in 1903. In 1968 they began manufacturing campers. Today, what sets Starcraft apart from other small, affordable trailers is its smart construction. Made with TuffShell, Starcraft’s unique fiberglass wall construction, all Starcraft trailers give superior durability while remaining lightweight. This combination not only extends the lifespan of the RV but also makes towing a breeze, whether you tow with a full-size pickup or a mid-size SUV.

Step inside an Autumn Ridge, and he homey atmosphere helps you feel right at home wherever you park. Their kitchens are a standout, complete with a three-burner stove, a microwave, and a double-door refrigerator – all you need to whip up delicious meals on the road or at the campsite . After dinner, you can relax in the comfortable seating area, perhaps catch a show on the LED TV.

What Makes The Autumn Ridge a Best Travel Trailer?

Prior to the Autumn Ridge, the 2019 Starcraft Mossy Oak travel trailer was my preferred choice. This was a spacious camper available in 11-floor plans, including several travel trailer models with bunk beds . The Mossy Oak came in lengths from 23’4″ to 36’5″, making it the best predecessor of the Starcraft Autumn Ridge. This new model has many choices for RV buyers, with features that will make you want to own one too.

Of the 12 models of travel trailers Lance Campers makes in 2023, I like the 1685 model est. There are several reasons. The 1685 is one of their lightest travel trailer models, featuring a dry weight of just 4,690 pounds. The interior is roomy and has lots of storage space available, and the floor plan is intelligently designed and laid out for maximum space efficiency. It includes a wet bath which I have stated before, is one of my personal preferences in any RV we buy.

Why I Like The Jay Flight SLX

Of all the travel trailer models Jayco manufactures, I prefer the Jay Flight SLX. First off, it’s not a huge camper and very light for its size. This makes the SLX very manageable when it comes to towing. In 2023 the Jay Flight SLX is available in 5 floorplans. The floorplan choices offer something for every RVer, including bunkhouse and queen bed walk around models. Two models have slideouts.

Some of the models feature a Simmons queen-size mattress which is a very comfortable camping mattress. I like that every Jay Flight SLX features a dry bath which is always nice. The bunk beds included in some models have a 4-inch mattress and a weight capacity of 300-pounds.

The galley has standard features such as two-range burners, a three cubic-foot fridge, a microwave, and solid-surface countertops. Chances are you are going to find a plan that works for your camping needs
