Jeff Beck announces mammoth list of US tour dates, including a string of shows with Ann Wilson and ZZ Top

The shows follow the release of Beck’s collaborative album with Johnny Depp, 18, and kick off in Texas on September 23

Jeff Beck 2022 US Tour dates

British guitar legend Jeff Beck has announced a 27-date US tour, beginning September 23 at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater, in Del Valle, Texas.

The first six shows will see Beck share a bill with ZZ Top and, for selected dates, former Heart vocalist Ann Wilson , on a brief jaunt across Texas, Tennessee and Alabama.

Beck will then undertake a solo run beginning October 1 in Atlanta, GA at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre, through to November 12 at the Grand Theatre, Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.

Reportedly, the bulk of the tour’s setlist is going to focus on Beck’s recent album, 18 (a collaborative project with Johnny Depp), which has given the guitar legend his first top 10 album entry on the Billboard chart.

However, we’re told the guitarist is also promising to pay tribute to friends and influences, alongside some older material, with his interpretations of Mahavishnu Orchestra’s You Know You Know and The Beatles’ A Day in the Life , plus Brush with the Blues all set to make appearances.

Speaking of appearances, we wonder if Depp will be showing up for any of the dates.   Depp previously joined Beck onstage for a number of shows, including a gig in the UK city of Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Beck’s revealed another star collaboration – a guest spot on Ozzy Osbourne track Patient Number 9 , back in June.

Jeff Beck: Royal Albert Hall, London – live review

Jeff Beck Has Dies at 78 Years Old

Jeff Beck Royal Albert Hall London 31st May 2022

Jeff Beck at Royal Albert Hall is 80 minutes of frequently complex and intricate music, including originals and cover versions, cherry-picked from throughout his career. Musically, Beck and his band never put a foot wrong.

On Jeff Beck’s first day recording Roger Waters’ album Amused To Death, the story goes, he showed up with a distortion pedal in his back pocket and an unplayed signature Fender ripped out of a cardboard box moments earlier. “You got an amp?” he asked. Didn’t need anything else. Just plugged in and played.

Occasionally, at the end of the day, Waters would noodle on that guitar. It was always out of tune. Beck would simply tune it while he played. The producer, Patrick Leonard, had never seen anything like it. And he’s worked with Madonna — and Michael Jackson.

Beck — like Brian May, David Gilmour, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen — is one of those rare guitarists who doesn’t just have an instantly recognisable sound, he has the ability to make the seemingly impossible look effortless. There’s no hunched-over focus, no over the top arm flailing, no twisted facial expressions. There’s just one hand that floats up and down the fretboard, while the other plucks the strings, manipulates the whammy bar, and twists the volume knob, all at once.

And so it is at Royal Albert Hall tonight. A typically low-key entrance (a wave and a look around before the sunglasses go on) is followed by a rapid succession of instrumentals in various styles and tempos (often within the same song), interspersed with an occasional soft-spoken “thank you”. He shares his appreciation of The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds before sensitively reinterpreting that album’s Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder). But, for the most part, the focus is very much on the music, playfully performed with enthusiasm and the occasional ’60s rock star flair.

Beck may raise his right arm, index finger pointing upwards, at the end of a song; punctuate his more complex, high-speed flourishes with a subtle, low-impact fist pump; or put both hands on his hips after hitting a particularly beefy chord. But the clearest sign that he’s still enjoying this, just three weeks shy of his 78th birthday, are the spontaneous smiles he shares with his band.

Anchored by bass player Rhonda Smith (whose CV includes Prince and Beyoncé), it also features cellist Vanessa Freebairn-Smith (who’s worked with everyone from Paul McCartney to Jay-Z), drummer Anika Nilles (clearly as comfortable laying down jazzy rhythms as electronica-influenced beats), and keyboard player Robert Adam Stevenson. Together they support Beck through 80 minutes of frequently complex and intricate music, including originals and well-worn cover versions cherry-picked from throughout his career.

Star Cycle — alternating between power chords, the sing-song melodies Joe Satriani’s built a career on, and all-out shredding — has only grown in bombast through four decades of live performance since first appearing on There And Back. The familiar rendition of Mahavishnu Orchestra’s You Know You Know allows the musicians on stage to get a little darker — and Smith and Nilles to pull focus with individual solos.

The muscular Stratus is all groove and Beck’s impossibly fast, fiery outbursts. Nitin Sawhney’s Nadia, with its drum & bass backbone, is even more jubilant than on 2001’s You Had It Coming. Big Block sounds way more nimble than a slab of ’80s blues-based hard rock has any right to. Brush With The Blues, originally from 1999’s Who Else!, slows the pace but not the intensity, as Beck shows off his finger-tapping skills alongside some of his most fluid runs and sudden changes in tone and volume. And, even late in a set stuffed with guitar wizardry, 2010’s tender Corpus Christi Carol elicits thoughts of “how is he doing that?”.

Musically, Beck and his band never put a foot wrong. In fact, the only real misstep tonight is Johnny Depp turning up to sing and play rhythm guitar on a handful of songs, including Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On and Hendrix’s Little Wing. Still awaiting the verdict of his recent court case at the time, he brings controversy, celebrity, and little else. He’s simply no match for the other musicians, with only John Lennon’s crooned Isolation and a swaggering take on Killing Joke’s The Death and Resurrection Show benefiting in any way from Depp’s contributions. Despite the warm response he receives from the audience, his presence is (at very best) distracting.

He makes one final appearance during the set closer, the Grammy-winning instrumental reimagination of The Beatles’ A Day In The Life, by which time Beck has reclaimed his place in the spotlight with one last virtuosic performance. And yet, as he lays down his guitar at the end, says a few quiet thank you’s, and waves goodbye, he’s as unassuming as that first day he arrived at Waters’ recording session.

A informative and detailed review of exactly how it went down on the night. I was there too, but while familiar, didn’t know some of the song titles – thank you! Your gentle and polite mention of the Depp debacle was very generous as for me, this buffoon ruined the gig. In the presence of greatness, we were cheated of this precious time by an imposter.

Hi i did not go the gig and im glad i didnt..ive seen beck a few times live a few amazing gigs some total ego arrogance…….ive worked with johnny depp hes basically a nice guy on a film set,,,,but he aint a rock n roll star…..what on earth was jeff thinking and apparently hes having depp on the entire uk tour….mad…..and for beck to do only 80 mins…bad value i had a ticket 2 years ago and all i can say im so please i didnt go and got my dosh back…

You missed out. Of course his dalliance with Depp is silly but don’t leave yourself up the “don’t mind the quality, feel the length” cul -de -sac He had Sharon Corr supporting for a start; for another he was on top form throughout. Catch yourself on.

I was at the concert and you’re spot on Depp was a unnecessary distraction

Great review and a very fair view of the Depp appearance, which in the Manchester show turned the evening into a bit of a circus, with JD look alikes and screaming fans. Its Jeffs decision who he guests on his shows and I understand and accept why JD was there. For me the evening would have been better with an accomplished vocalist.

I don’t care who JB invites on with him; JB is always the best thing present; if you allow Depp to mar proceedings, you’re missing the point!

I was at every show, Jeff Beck fan for life, this tour with Johnny Depp (8of 9 shows) was amazing, they are kicking butt, having fun ,it shows!

The duo recently wrapped a successful European tour together on July 25 in Paris, France to much fan and critical acclaim with sold-out dates throughout northern Europe, Italy and France – including a stop at the revered Montreux Jazz Festival. Jeff Beck found a kindred spirit in Johnny Depp when the two met in 2016. They bonded quickly over cars and guitars and spent most of their time together trying to make each other laugh. At the same time, Beck’s appreciation grew for Depp’s serious songwriting skills and his ear for music. That talent and their chemistry convinced Beck they should make an album together.   Depp agreed and they started in 2019. Over the next three years, they recorded a mix of Depp originals along with a wide range of covers that touches on everything from Celtic and Motown, to the Beach Boys and Killing Joke. “We were going to call the album ‘Kitchen Sink’ because we threw everything in it,” the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer says with a laugh. “The only game plan we had was to play songs we like and see where they took us.”   Beck is universally acknowledged as one of the most talented and significant guitarists in the world and has played alongside some of the greatest artists of rock, blues, and jazz. Over the course of his distinguished 50+ music career, he has earned an incredible eight Grammy Awards, been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” and been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice – once as a member of the Yardbirds and again as a solo artist. In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl with special guests including Buddy Guy, Steven Tyler, Beth Hart, Billy F. Gibbons and Jan Hammer.    JEFF BECK U.S. Tour Dates September 23  Del Valle, TX @ Germania Insurance Amphitheater (with ZZ Top/Ann Wilson) September 24  Dallas, TX @ Dos Equis Pavilion (with ZZ Top/Ann Wilson) September 25  The Woodlands, TX @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion (w/ZZ Top/Ann Wilson) September 27  Franklin, TN @ First Bank Amphitheater (w/ZZ Top) September 29  Pelham, AL @ Oak Mountain Amphitheatre (w/ZZ Top) September 30  Orange Beach, AL @ The Wharf Amphitheater (w/ZZ Top) October 1        Atlanta, GA @ Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre October 4        Washington, DC @ The Anthem October 6        Boston, MA @ MGM Music Hall at Fenway October 7&8   Port Chester, NY @ Capitol Theatre October 10      Red Bank, NJ @ Count Basie Center for the Arts October 13      Kingston, NY @ Ulster Performing Arts Center October 14&15 Huntington, NY @ The Paramount October 17      Toronto, ON @ Meridian Hall October 19      Nashville, IN @ Brown County Music Center October 20      Cincinnati, OH @ The Andrew J Brady Music Center October 22      Louisville, KY @ The Louisville Palace Theater October 23      Chicago, IL @ Chicago Theatre November 1    Phoenix, AZ @ Celebrity Theatre November 2    Temecula, CA@ Pechanga Resort & Casino November 4    Las Vegas, NV @ The Pearl Concert Theater November 5    Thousand Oaks, CA @ Bank of America Performing Arts Center Thousand Oaks November 6    Los Angeles, CA @ Orpheum Theatre November 8    Anaheim, CA @ City National Grove of Anaheim November 9    San Jose, CA @ San Jose Civic November 10  Sacramento, CA @ Hard Rock Live November 12  Reno, NV @ Grand Theatre, Grand Sierra Resort   *All dates subject to change, more dates TBA

jeff beck tour europe 2022

Announced today, JEFF BECK will tour the U.S. this fall in support of the newly released, highly anticipated musical collaboration with Johnny Depp, 18. The tour will kick off on September 23 in Del Valle, TX where Beck will share the bill for the first six shows with longtime musical friends, ZZ Top. BECK will then continue on for his headline dates in Atlanta on October 1 continuing up the east coast hitting DC, Boston and the New York area before heading west with several mid-west stops before heading to the west coast. Currently, the tour will wind up in Reno, NV on November 12th. Pre-sale tickets will be available on tomorrow, Tuesday August 16 at 10am local time (password: beck18) with public on sale Friday, August 19.  VIP packages also available here . Full itinerary is below with all dates subject to change and more dates to be announced.   The tour will focus on the new album as well as explore Beck’s legendary career through instrumentals like “You Know You Know,” “A Day in the Life” and “Brush with the Blues.” The tour will include BECK’s current band: bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Robert Stevenson.   BECK and DEPP’s 13-track album, 18, debuted at #10 on both the Billboard Top Albums and Top Current Albums charts marking the first top 10 for both Beck and Depp on the 31-year-old Top Album Sales chart.  The set is available on CD and digitally, with a 180-gram black vinyl version coming on September 30. The duo recently wrapped a successful European tour together on July 25 in Paris, France to much fan and critical acclaim with sold-out dates throughout northern Europe, Italy and France - including a stop at the revered Montreux Jazz Festival.

Jeff Beck Johnny Depp Royal Albert hall

Johnny Depp , who is awaiting the verdict on a multi-million dollar defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard , rocked London’s Royal Albert Hall stage with English musician Jeff Beck on Monday.

This was their second gig in a row after “The Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s surprise appearance at Sheffield City Hall on Sunday as part of Beck’s European tour.

Introducing Depp on stage at the Royal Albert Hall, Beck said: “He came knocking on my dressing room door about five years ago and we haven’t stopped laughing since.”

The duo reportedly played their 2020 collaboration “Isolation,” a cover of the John Lennon song from 1970, and a total of seven songs together, including Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life.”

The songs received a standing ovation, per some reports.

Beck has several tour dates coming up in the U.K., including at Saga, Gateshead, on June 2; the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on June 3; O2 Apollo, Manchester on June 4; the Symphony Hall in Birmingham on June 6; and York Barbican on June 7. It is not immediately clear if Depp will perform alongside him at these venues. Beck’s tour moves on to mainland Europe after the U.K. concerts.

Depp is suing Heard over a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post, titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” While the piece does not name Depp, his lawyers have argued that it implies that he sexually and physically abused Heard during their time together.

Closing statements from both sides were heard on Friday, and jury deliberations are ongoing. The case began April 11.

Jeff Beck (born June 24, 1944) is a notoriously influential and inspiring English rock guitarist, who has played with the Yardbirds, the The Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice.

Born in the London Borough of Sutton, UK, Beck began his musical excursions singing in his local church choir before learning to play a borrowed guitar and making his instruments. Inspired to play after hearing Les Paul, B.B. King and Steve Cropper, throughout the early ‘60s Beck played in a string of bands including the Rumbles and the Tridents and made his first vinyl appearance as a session guitarist on the Fitz and Startz single “I’m Not Running Away”.

At the request of session man Jimmy Page, The Yardbirds recruited Beck to replace Eric Clapton as lead guitarist, during Beck’s 20-month tenure The Yardbirds recorded the majority of their most popular and revered songs.

After being kicked out of the Yardbirds for rarely showing up and completing a short solo project which resulted in the two solo UK hit singles “Hi Ho Silver Lining” and “Tallyman”, Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group. The Jeff Beck Group temporarily had a line-up of Beck, ex-Shadow man Jet Harris on bass, Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on guitar and Nicky Hopkins on piano. The band’s first release “Truth” (1968) performed significantly better than the second “Beck-Ola” (1969) and resentment ended the band in 1969.

After a serious car accident in 1970 and a failed idea to start a power-trio with Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert, Beck formed a new version of the Jeff Beck Group. The reformation however didn’t cause much of a stir with the albums “Rough and Ready (1971) and “Jeff Beck Group” (1972), and with the the breakup of the band Cactus, Beck, Appice and Bogert formed a power-trio in 1973.

In 1975 after a quiet period for the guitarist, Beck release the instrumental jazz-fusion album “Blow by Blow” which garnered critical acclaim as did his follow-up with Jan Hammer on the 1976 album “Wired”. Releases from Beck after this time appeared fewer and further between with his next release the Jan Hammer-contributed “There and Back” arrived in 1980 after which Beck toured extensively, before retiring again.

Five years later in 1986 Beck released the pop/rock album “Flash” produced by Nile Rodgers. On the album the single “People Get Ready” features vocals from Rod Stewart, as well as featuring the Grammy winning instrumental single “Escape”. Prior to the release of the Grammy award winning “Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas” in 1989, Beck played lead guitar on Mick Jagger’s second solo album “Primitive Cool”.

In 1992 Beck contributed lead guitar on the Roger Water comeback album “Amused to Death” before releasing a tribute album to Gene Vincent entitled “Crazy Legs” in 1993. After a six-year break came “Who Else! You Had It Coming” in 1999, followed by “Jeff” in 2001, the live set “Performing This Week: Live at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club” in 2008, and “Emotion & Commontion” in 2010. The album won two Grammys for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Beck subsequently release a live album titled “Live and Exclusive from the Grammy Museum in 2010, followed by a tribute album to Les Paul entitled “Rock & Roll Party” the same year.

Live reviews

It's just so hard to describe Jeff Beck. You have to see him. Being one of the pioneers of rock, playing with the Yardbirds in the 60's, went from their wailing blues to psychedelic blues as the three (Beck Clapton Page) guitarists divulged into Cream and Led Zeppelin. Jeff evolved into a modern guitar God enigma.

He has smooth riffs, blending into another with complete control of his effects, never using them repeatedly for lack of musicality. His quality of playing is always forefront to the gimmicks. You could give him a cheap guitar and he will sound like Jeff Beck because of his skill of playing.

His "People Get Ready" live instrumental rendition blew me off my seat when He played with Jeff Healy, Stevie Ray Vaughn at the now called Rogers Centre. The fans that had the pleasure to see him at Ronny Scotts are probably still shaking their heads on how he played the strat with slide and whammy harmonics, simultaneously. He will sustain a bend; climaxing in a flurry riff that you would have to play it back slowly to figure out what he was playing.

He has evolved in uncharted territory. He plays with raw, controlled emotion and mastery of his instrument. He can play so soulful (Definitely Maybe - Jeff Beck Group70's), he can make the Strat cry. He once quoted that a lot of good music comes by accident and rarely repeats his riffs, unless they are patented JB riffs. He builds a sculpture, then breaks the mold. He always comes up with something new, keeping you on edge until he pulls it out unexpectedly, like he did with "People Get Ready". He is one of England's National Treasures and I am a very happy man to be a witness to the journey he has taken.

Well to start with, the show for Jeff Beck was very disappointing. Most of his songs were just screaming distorted sounds that sounded the same throughout the entire performance. We mainly purchased tickets to see him on stage with bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, who was not on his show! Instead he had a mediocre bass player who did nothing to add to the songs played. Tal makes Jeff play more melodic with feeling. Even on his ballad song "Cause We Ended As Lovers" had no bass solo, a staple part for Tal in which she steals the song from Jeff.

To make the show even worse than it could ever be, guitarist Buddy Guy performed right after Jeff Beck and all you heard was him saying the "F Bomb" word all night long, so disrespectful to the audience & minors that were present. If Buddy thinks by laying his guitar down while beating it with a towel while it feedsback, he should record himself & see how immature if really is, that's not music, nor beating the guitar strings with a bow. I've seen him 2xs before, and each time he has been intoxicated on stage. The worse was when he put his guitar up in the ceiling rafter while it was

feeding back & he couldn't get it down!! The entire show sucked.

Perhaps one of Britain's most celebrated musicians, guitarist Jeff Beck had the coveted opportunity to play alongside The Yardbirds as well as other iconic performers Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Now performing solo at the grand age of 70, the guitarist has not lost any of his abilities or stage presence.

An eccentric through and through, Beck was born to be onstage and you can understand why he refuses to take early retirement as you listen to the deafening cheers as he steps proudly out to his adoring crowd. Playing a bold cover of Jimi Hendrix's 'Little Wing' he easily demonstrates his masterful abilities and this level of expertise continues throughout the evening. His accompanying musicians are talented within their own rights, but the whole attention is well and truly on Jeff and his guitar. The complexity of 'Big Block' evokes mass cheers from the crowd and as he exits the stage they are left under the impression that Beck will not be hanging up the strings and plectrum anytime soon.

I was glad an excited to see this venue, for two of the finest, at Denver's premier stages outside this summer. Buddy Guy landed his licks, among the crowd when he walked round expressing the sources of bluesdom mixed with rock. His performance was outstanding, loved his Blues, totally.

The Jeff Beck Band was more ,of an up to date format ,moving to the next level of his career. At his age, traveling through his past, didn't seem to slow his performance one bit. His band showed their energy and flowed to us in every song played... moved the lyrics into our brains n out of our tearful eyes. The vocalists (times two) showed how to get it right. My gratitude is heart felt, Thanks to both of you, splendidly.

A terrific show on August 7th, 2016. One that will be talked about, reviewed, over all He is a Rock Legend, true to form.

I've been a jeff beck fan since the mid 60's (yes I'm an old burnout).his playing was as crisp and smooth as it was in 1971,when i last saw him live.his play list was a good representation of his work for the last several years with just enough of his early tunes thrown in to please us older fans.i would strongly recommend younger folks to go and see beck play.remember he came onto the British rock/blues scene with guitarists eric clapton, jimmy page and peter green.

The crowd was of mixed age with plenty of young folks there to check this guy out.from what i saw there were no concert antics like the 70's.my take on this show was time and money well spent. The venue daily's place ampatheatre was a pleasant surprise.thanks songkick i sure could have used you back in the day.you now have a customer for life, great experience.

This was a first class concert. I had not seen Jeff live before but was extremely impressed with the whole package, his playing, the band and the material they played. I was really impressed with the two young girls who were outstanding and the drummer was incredible. I would like to know if the drummer was Simon Phillips who played with him some years back and is, of that standard. All in all a great concert. The band was so surprised to be asked to do an encore that they had not planned for one and took a few minutes to agree on what to play. if he tours again in this country I would go back and see him again.

Great show overall - but a bit short at just over 90 minutes (including an encore). Front of house mix was a bit hit and miss for first 15-20 mins (drums and bass a bit overpowering) but settled down when the male vocalist - who was outstanding- came on. Backing musicians were outstanding and Jeff was in good form with Big Block, Superstition, A Day in the Life and Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers stand outs.

Jeff lets his guitar do the talking but the show would benefit from a few more words from Jeff - he was even quieter than usual but the singer was excellent and helped communication with the audience.

I'm from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, my name is Casimiro Monge...yesterday after 30 or more years wanting to see and listen live this genius of electric guitar, i made it ! something memorable for me, a form of happiness that transcends me, his passion, his taste, his technique, his everything is really great ... for me the least predesible...you do not know what note interpret...today I can say, I will die happy !! Excellent show, great set list, although I would have liked to interpret Blue Wind of his album Wired.

Long live to Jeff Beck!!!

Jeff Beck has 5 decades of music, on Saturday night he played for only 70 minutes. 25 of those minutes we were forced to listen to Johnny Depp sing. It was the worst concert I've ever been to. Compare this concert to Santana a month ago. Santana played for 3.5 hours, tickets were only $35 and when the tickets arrived included was a copy of his latest CD. That was a concert to remember.

Jeff Beck Announces Fall 2022 Tour Dates

Today, two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Jeff Beck, announced a forthcoming U.S. fall tour. The run of shows is slated to begin on Sept. 23 in Del Valle, Texas; Beck will be joined on stage for his first six shows by his longtime friends and rock icons, ZZ Top.

Beck’s forthcoming run supports his latest album, 18 , in collaboration with Johnny Depp, which debuted at #10 on both Billboard’s Top Albums and Top Current Albums. The tour will also explore his legendary career, taking fans through renditions of Beck classics, including “Brush with the Blues” and “A Day in the Life,” coupled with new material.

After bonding over cars and guitars back in 2016, Beck and Depp quickly found themselves as kindred spirits. They agreed to create an album together and began in 2019 and worked for three years, sampling some of Depp’s originals and a mosaic of covers from numerous genres of music. “We were going to call the album ‘Kitchen Sink’ because we threw everything in it,” Beck shared in a press release. Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp opened their collaborative tour with a show at The Anthem in Washington, DC on Oct. 4, 2022. The evening began with a solo set from Beck and his backing band (bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Robert Stevenson). Opening with “Freeway Jam” he continued with his signature versions of “You Know You Know,” “Big Block,” and “Brush with the Blues” and from his new album with Depp, 18 , “Caroline No”. At the midway point of the set, Depp stepped out from the wings to join Beck on songs from the new album including “This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr” and “Isolation” before ending the night with their take on the Killing Joke song, “The Death and Resurrection Show.”

The tour, originally announced on Aug. 15, began on Sept. 23 in Texas where Beck (alone) shared the bill for the first six shows with longtime musical friends, ZZ Top. Beck joined ZZ Top on stage each night for their encores. Here they are performing “La Grange” on Sept. 25.

Beck and Depp headed up the east coast before continuing with several mid-west stops (including one date in Canada) before heading to the west coast.

From the original Aug. 15 tour announcement: Beck found a kindred spirit in Depp when the two met in 2016.

“We were going to call the album ‘Kitchen Sink’ because we threw everything in it,” the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said at the time. “The only game plan we had was to play songs we like and see where they took us.” The pair had previously wrapped a European tour.

One of the Oct. 4 opening night encores was a cover of “Little Wing”

The tour spanned 21 dates, ending on Nov. 12. Beck, born on June 24, 1944, was universally acknowledged as one of the most talented and significant guitarists in the world and has played alongside some of the greatest artists of rock, blues, and jazz. Over the course of his distinguished 50+ year career, he earned eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice – once as a member of the Yardbirds and again as a solo artist. In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with a concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl with special guests including Buddy Guy, Steven Tyler, Beth Hart, Billy F. Gibbons and Jan Hammer.

Johnny Depp debuts newly clean-shaven look while rocking out with Jeff Beck at Finland tour show

Johnny Depp performing on Jeff Beck tour

Johnny Depp looked noticeably different as he hit the stage on Jeff Beck’s tour over the weekend.

The Edward Scissorhands actor is continuing to perform as a special guest on Jeff’s world tour, which has moved over to mainland Europe following a stint in the UK earlier this month.

On Sunday, the pair shared the stage in Finland to perform at the Helsinki Blues Festival, and some fans no doubt did a double-take as Johnny arrived sporting a fresh look.

It appears the 59-year-old has given himself a mini makeover in the middle of the tour, having debuted a clean-shaven look after getting rid of the goatee beard he wore during his six-week libel trial against ex-wife Amber Heard .

Johnny seemed to be in great spirits as he soaked in the warm reception from the audience, and waved and smiled at them while strumming the guitar on-stage alongside his frequent musical collaborator Jeff.

The pair have grown close in recent months and are even set to release a joint album in July. Last week, they dropped the first single from the record, This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr , which was inspired by the early Hollywood starlet.

Johnny and Jeff, 77, first met in 2016 and the album’s been in the works since 2019, when the actor was also working with Alice Cooper’s supergroup Hollywood Vampires.

Sources close to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor have said he is now focusing on rebuilding his career after going through the gruelling trial against Amber.

Johnny Depp outside court

Johnny filed a lawsuit against the Aquaman actress over an article she wrote detailing her experience with domestic abuse. The actor was not named in the op-ed, which was published by The Washington Post in 2018, but Johnny’s legal team argued it suggested he was physically and abusive towards her.

A jury found Amber did defame Johnny with the article and he was awarded damages of $8.35million after reductions, while the actress herself was also awarded $2m in damages after countersuing her ex-husband.

An insider has since told People : ‘[Johnny] isn’t even talking about the trial now.

‘He filed the lawsuit, because he considered it necessary. He has moved on though. He is now able to get back to what he loves doing. He enjoys performing and has a busy summer ahead. He is also looking forward to [continuing] working. He just wants his career back. He loves filming.’

Having cultivated one of the most influential careers in rock history, Beck is universally acknowledged as one of the most talented and significant guitarists in the world, and has played alongside some of the greatest artists of rock, blues and jazz.

Over the course of his distinguished 50-plus-year music career, he has earned an incredible eight Grammy Awards , been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time," and been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame twice — once as a member of THE YARDBIRDS and again as a solo artist. In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Beck famously replaced Eric Clapton as THE YARDBIRDS ' lead guitarist in 1965 and later went on to form THE JEFF BECK GROUP , which featured Rod Stewart on vocals and Ron Wood on bass. Their two albums — "Truth" (1968) and "Beck-Ola" (1969) — would become musical touchstones for hard rockers in the years to come.

The constantly evolving Beck 's next move — a power trio with bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice , which released "Beck, Bogert And Appice" (1973),once again shattered people's preconceptions of what a rock guitarist was supposed to sound like.

1985's "Flash" kept Beck in the spotlight as he earned the "Best Rock Instrumental" Grammy for the song "Escape" . A second Grammy came with Jeff Beck 's "Guitar Shop" with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas , and a third for "Dirty Mind" from the "You Had It Coming" album in 2001. 2009 saw the release of the platinum-selling "Performing This Week… Live at Ronnie Scott's" , which earned a Grammy for "A Day In The Life" .

Beck 's astonishing 2010 solo album, "Emotion & Commotion" , brought about two additional Grammy Awards ; Beck was nominated in five categories before bringing home three: "Best Rock Instrumental Performance" for "Hammerhead" and "Best Pop Instrumental Performance" for "Nessun Dorma" , both from "Emotion & Commotion" , and "Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals" for "Imagine" , his collaboration with Herbie Hancock .

His "Rock 'N' Roll Party (Honoring Les Paul)" album was nominated for a 2012 Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album". In 2016 he released "Loud Hailer" and in 2017 "Jeff Beck: Live At The Hollywood Bowl" was released, both to widespread critical acclaim.

Kate Moss

UPDATED : Just days after testifying on his behalf in Johnny Depp ‘s acrimonious $50 million defamation suit against Amber Heard , Kate Moss joined her ex-boyfriend as he jammed with Jeff Beck for a third night in a row on the guitar legend’s European tour.

According to multiple reports, Moss attended Tuesday’s show to see her ex and Beck perform at Royal Albert Hall in London.

Six days before, she gave very brief testimony via video, refuting a rumored allegation that the actor pushed her down a flight of stairs when they dated in the 1990s.

“He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any kind of stairs,” Moss said , testifying it was she who slipped and it was Depp who carried her back to the room and got her medical attention.

The duo recently wrapped a successful European tour together on July 25th in Paris, France to much fan and critical acclaim with sold-out dates throughout northern Europe, Italy and France – including a stop at the revered Montreux Jazz Festival.

Review of Jeff Beck’s concert with Johnny Depp in Prague

' src=

This did not happen to English guitarist Jeff Beck. During his concert on Monday in Prague’s O2 universum hall, a female fan tried to run to the stage through the aisle between the seated spectators. As the security started to meet her, the girl turned and stretched herself both long and wide as she dashed back. The reason, of course, was not Beck, but his guest: American actor and guitarist Johnny Depp.

Fans were already waiting for the 59-year-old Hollywood star in front of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, where he arrived in a silver Mercedes. He returned to the Czech Republic a year after he was a guest of the Karlovy Vary media festival, and shortly after winning the watched trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The fact that Johnny Depp is going to take the stage at the O2 Universe on Monday was already hinted at when a stand with his guitars arrived backstage. While Jeff Beck’s band started playing a four-chord rock ‘n’ roll instrumental Rattle from Link Wray, known from the movie Pulp Fiction, Depp casually came in and bowed with a dash. That a significant part of the listeners, in particular, was waiting for him, was evident from the stove’s switched on mobile phones and loud shouting.

This was repeated as soon as Depp sang the first word of his recent composition This is a song for Miss Hedy Lamarr . He dedicated it to the former Austro-Hungarian actress and inventor, who in 1932 appeared naked in one of the first minutes in the film Ecstasy by the Czech director Gustav Machaté. Depp was interested in her fate, when a person defines physical beauty all his life and overshadows his personality.

Johnny Depp is an actor, so he enjoys moving on stage in Prague. Eyes hidden behind black aviator glasses, she wears a navy cap, several necklaces, a blue shirt with white polka dots and sleeves rolled up to reveal dozens of tattoos. At least five rings on the hands, ten bracelets of different colors on the wrist. As he swings across the stage, his guitar purposely perched as low on his waist as a colt was worn, he must rattle like a pirate.

Of course: the captain Jack Sparrow from the film saga Pirates of the Caribbean is his most famous role, but Depp modeled it after a musical role model, guitarist Keith Richards from the band Rolling Stones. After him, this Monday, he also took several powerful blows with his right hand on the guitar, which looked impressive, as if he was whipping the instrument.

Even before Depp made his horror film debut in 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street , devoted himself to music. He has been returning to it for the past decade. The people of Prague already experienced it four years ago at a concert by the band Hollywood Vampires. This Monday, he kept switching between guitars, from an acoustic 12-string to a Fender Telecaster, but he was wise enough not to try to solo alongside the incomparably better Jeff Beck. He remained in the role of an accompanist, rather adding shine to the concert. And of course he sang.

The song This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr was dedicated by Johnny Depp to the Austro-Hungarian actress and inventor known from the Czech film Extase. | Video: Jeff Beck

While the song Time from Dennis Wilson desperately didn’t suit him, he gave a passable performance where he could stick to the deep register, on the edge of the spoken word. As in the cover version Venus in fur coat from rockers Velvet Underground, during which red light hit Depp’s face, to impressive industrial Show Death and Resurrection from the repertoire of British postpunks Killing Joke. Here, Depp’s voice was mechanically distorted by the effect, which, combined with the flashing red and orange lights, gave the evening a different mood. At that moment, some female fans on the sidewalks twitched with enthusiasm and tilted their heads in euphoria.

Even though he then just held the microphone with both hands and sang, Depp was in touch the whole time. As a musician he has done no disgrace.

Jeff Beck took him into the band about a month and a half ago as a friend, so there is no reason to make excessive demands on the actor. All the more so because the old Hollywood star lends fame to the otherwise purely instrumental performance of Jeff Beck, who, unlike him, never had the mannerisms of a rock star. Except, of course, for the scene from the feature film Enlargement by Michelangelo Antonioni, where Beck struggles with a broken amplifier and even a guitar during a performance by the Yardbirds bursts out in anger .

Monday’s concert in Prague’s Vysočany was only announced a month ago. Considering the steeply rising inflation, holidays, summer festivals or events postponed from the time of the pandemic, it is a miracle that there were only a few tens of empty seats left in the hall. The performance was even moved from Fora Karlín, apparently due to more seating. Since when own both halls financial group PPF, it is easier for the organizer.

Although they will only release an album together this Friday, Jeff Beck became friends with Johnny Depp six years ago, “over guitars and cars”. It’s a boost especially for the 78-year-old Beck, one of the most respected living guitarists, but not a celebrity after all.

The winner of eight Grammy Awards and a two-time member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a rich past history dating back to the beginnings of the so-called British Invasion, as the massive success of English bands in the US around the mid-1960s was called.

That’s when Beck first drew attention to himself when he replaced guitarist Eric Clapton in the popular band The Yardbirds, mixing rock and blues. In contrast, he brought wilder riffs and sounds. With another follow-up from this form, Jimmy Pagem was one of the pioneers of hard rock, later also jazz rock, and he discovered the singer Rod Stewart with his Jeff Group.

But he never stagnated in terms of genre, today he is a role model for several generations of guitarists, and since the mid-70s he has been developing a technically distinctive way of playing on the solo track.

On the simply furnished stage of the O2 universa with several curtains that color the lights yellow and red, or green and purple, Beck arrives shortly after nine in the evening. Slim, energetic, in black glasses, dark blue pants, a white T-shirt like corals around his neck, he greets the audience, raises his hand with a clenched fist in the air at the first beat of the drums, and then just plays. He only thanks a few times for the whole evening. Now and then he shows or points to heaven, but there he twiddles his finger more than the audience. If the performances were broadcast on big screens, Beck would be seen smiling constantly at them.

The guitarist came to the Czech capital for the third time. The first performance of 2011 in the acoustically inadequate hall at the Prague Exhibition Center, he then visited the Mlejn cafe privately. He also took over the guitar, which was constructed for him by Peter Jurkovič and artistically modified by Stefan Milkov.

He played for the second time eight years ago on the terrace of the Equestrian Hall of the Prague Castle, where, however, the electricity went out in a few minutes. Some people boycotted this concert due to strict measures. In addition to the protection, they repeatedly seat the spectators and the generally rigid bans, the organizers were interested in, among other things, the announcement that smoking is allowed in the premises of the Prague Castle, which seemed like a provocation from the newly elected smoking president Miloš Zeman.

But both performances had the same basis: Beck’s instrumental compositions, this Monday mostly from the albums There & Back released in 1980 and the younger Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop. There were also two cover versions from the 70s, all united on the border between rock, blues and fusion. Her own composition interspersed those taken over, faster songs with sensitive ballads.

The whole evening he had the same white Fender Stratocaster guitar around his neck, the strings of which he has been playing with his fingers since the 80s, i.e. without a pick. Beck is able to distill from it an unusually dynamic variety of expressions. Apart from the quack, or wah-wah pedal effect, it doesn’t need anything else: the Forum uses the way it controls the binding, and in particular the so-called vibrato lever, which bends the pitches at speed to create vibrato.

What other guitarists rarely do and often have to fine-tune the instrument, Beck uses throughout the evening. One hand flies over the frets, the other most often sounds the strings with the thumb or forefinger, while the other fingers control the vibration lever and twist the knobs that control the volume or switch the pickups. This makes Beck’s notes sound so distinctive, combined with his phrasing and timing truly unique.

A constant, pleasant and fluid flow of emotionally charged notes pours from the guitar, whether Beck is cutting the strings towards an imagined climax or moving into pianissimo.

How many of the tools can be illustrated by four million people viewed video , as he played the old Jimi Hendrix hit Little Wing on the TV show. In Prague this Monday he also included it, although not with such an effect due to Johnny Depp’s weaker singing.

Nuanced ballads sound much better: minor creeper Because we ended up being lovers by Stevie Wonder and Covered The midnight walker , originally by Ireland’s Davy Spillane. In both, Beck’s guitar wails longingly, screams moderately, in places approaching the color of the human voice. Beck’s masculine appearance belies his body: he is an extremely sensitive player, able to work a simple melody without unnecessary embellishments, with an emphasis on emotional impact. Although formally it is still rock, the principle can be traced back to the blues.

Of course, it’s a miracle that Beck’s fingers still work. 12 years ago, he was cutting carrots at home and “fed up with their frequency”, he started cutting faster until he accidentally cut off part of his index finger. “The next second I was on my knees and howling that this was the end of me,” he recalled years ago. However, the surgeon miraculously recovered his finger, in a few months the index finger was working as before – and today the guitarist’s hands are insured, according to the British media, for 700 thousand pounds per finger.

For his performance on Monday in Prague, mutual interplay with the band is also key. Beck generously gives space to its members from the beginning, and so right away during the cover version You know you know from the repertoire of the jazz-rock Mahavishnu Orchestra, bassist Rhonda Smith is coming to the edge of the stage. The former accompanist of Prince or Beyoncé will show the so-called slapping technique of the game and a curved impressive solo with hits and breaks on the fingerboard.

Keyboardist Robert Stevenson and especially the thirty-nine-year-old German drummer in black glasses, Anika Nillesová, are new to the line-up. She studied social care and musicology, started her music career only in the last decade on YouTube and this is her first big tour with a world star. In Prague, he plays top-notch all evening, including the groove in the cover version Cloud by drummer Billy Cobham, where Beck’s guitar phrases are constantly matched by Stevenson’s keyboards.

Czechs can be sorry for only one thing – that they still haven’t experienced Jeff Beck as his former 70-year-old, now 40-year-old American ex, Jan Hammer. Their mutual jazz-rock understanding in the late 1970s was one of the creative peaks of both musicians and remains captured on several albums. Although it was probably the 100-stop tour at that time that caused Hammer to later develop an aversion to touring.

In 2017, Jan Hammer accompanied Jeff Beck in a concert at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater, they also played the song Star Cycle.

Jeff Beck was the only one who managed to lure Hammer back to the audience after dozens. Five years ago, a Czech keyboardist with him in the USA contains several songs at the Hollywood Bowl Amphitheater as Beck celebrated 50 years on stage. This Monday, Hammer’s name did not come up, to be at least remotely present here: Beck introduced his compositions You never know and especially Star Cycle, built on Hammer’s imaginative synthesizer subplot released from devices called sequencers.

Of course, it didn’t excite the audience as much as when Johnny Depp returned for an encore, an instrumental cover version A day in the life by the Beatles – for its interpretation Beck received a Grammy some time ago. However, hearing the English guitarist with Hammer is the only thing guitarist fans can wish for after Monday. All other wishes Jeff Beck fulfilled abundantly.

The duo recently wrapped a successful European tour together on July 25 in Paris, France to much fan and critical acclaim with sold-out dates throughout northern Europe, Italy and France – including a stop at the revered Montreux Jazz Festival.

BECK found a kindred spirit in JOHNNY DEPP when the two met in 2016. They bonded quickly over cars and guitars and spent most of their time together trying to make each other laugh. At the same time, BECK ’s appreciation grew for Depp’s serious songwriting skills and his ear for music. That talent and their chemistry convinced BECK they should make an album together.   DEPP agreed and they started in 2019. Over the next three years, they recorded a mix of Depp originals along with a wide range of covers that touches on everything from Celtic and Motown, to the Beach Boys and Killing Joke . In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl with special guests including Buddy Guy , Steven Tyler , Beth Hart , Billy F. Gibbons and Jan Hammer .
