Day 1: Departure

Our life-changing journey begins this evening as we board our overnight flight to Jordan.

Day 2: Arrival Jordan

We arrive in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and transfer to our lodging for the evening in Amman. Enjoy dinner, retire to your room and be ready for an early departure in the morning. (D)

Day 3: Jerash, Petra

tour israel y petra

This morning we travel to Jerash, one of the best preserved and most complete provincial Roman cities. Jerash, Gerasa of Roman Times, was one of the cities of the Decapolis, a confederation of 10 Graeco-Roman cities dating from the 1st century BC situated in Jordan, Syria and Israel. Known as the Pompeii of the East for its extraordinary state of preservation, the ruins indicate human occupations at this location for more than 2,500 years. From here, we continue on to our lodging for the evening in Petra. (B, D)

Day 4: Petra

Early this morning we turn southward toward the amazing mountain fortress of Petra, known to be inhabited by the Edomites - the descendants of Esau. Begin the tour with a walk through the "Siq," an immense crack in the Nubian sandstone, to the city of Petra carved out of the rose red rock. The Treasury, El Khazneh, is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity. Beyond El Khazneh we are surrounded on both sides by hundreds of Petra's carved and built structures. Departing Petra, we travel northward on the King's Highway where to the west we view the hills bordering the Dead Sea. This is the area of the hilltop palace/fortress of Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded. We overnight in Amman this evening. (B, D)

Day 5: Mt Nebo, Madaba, Tel Aviv

tour israel y petra

Our morning tour begins in the town of Madaba, the biblical Medeba, 30 kilometers south of Amman. Madaba is best known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George we view the earliest surviving mosaic map of the Holy land. Mt. Nebo, believed to be the site of the tomb of Moses, commands a spectacular view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Study the panorama as we read the scripture of God showing Moses the "Promised Land" before He brought him home to heaven. As we travel west toward the Allenby Bridge, we view to the north the Plains of Moab, the area where the tribes of Israel camped before crossing the Jordan and picture the place where Jesus was baptized. Crossing back into Israel, we drive to Tel Aviv area with the remainder of the afternoon free. You may wish to take a devotional time with the sunset over the “Great Sea,” a time of prayer and thanks for the special blessings ahead, a prayer for the people of this land, and then enjoy a good night’s rest. (B, D)

Day 6: Caesarea, Megiddo & Nazareth

tour israel y petra

After breakfast, we travel by private motor coach along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea, where Gentiles first heard the Good News from Peter and were baptized. We’ll see a Roman Amphitheatre, hippodrome, and other remains of this famous port city, as well as a film on history and an aqueduct before we journey through the Mt. Carmel range, where Elijah challenged King Ahab and the prophets of Baal. Next, we travel through the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, the Armageddon Battlefield, where archaeologists have unearthed twenty levels of civilization. We drive through the area of Cana and Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus, where we visit the Nazareth Village, a wonderful recreation of Biblical times with costumed guides. We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next two nights in the Tiberias area on the Sea of Galilee.

Day 7: Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Capernaum, Magdala, Sea of Galilee Boat Ride

tour israel y petra

Following breakfast, our morning travels take us to two valuable northern sites: Dan is where the children of Israel fell to the depths of alternative sacrifice, and Caesarea Philippi is the site of Peter’s Confession and pagan worship. We pass the possible site of the multiplication of loaves and fishes in Bethsaida and the Mount of the Beatitudes. Returning to Tiberias for a St. Peter’s Fish lunch (other selections available), we then visit the ancient Galilee Boat followed by a relaxing cruise on the Sea of Galilee. A brief Scripture reading and devotional on board brings to life the experiences of Jesus and the fishermen disciples. In Capernaum we view the excavations of the seaside village and Peter’s home, followed by a visit to Magdala, hometown of Mary Magdalene. The recent excavation of the First Century Synagogue and well-preserved village makes Magdala one of the most interesting Biblical sites in Israel.

Day 8: Jordan River Baptism Site, Beth Shean, Ein Gedi & Dead Sea

tour israel y petra

We begin our day with the opportunity to be baptized at the Jordan River Baptismal Site. Next, we travel southward to Beit-Shean/Scythopolis, the most magnificent archeological site in Israel, located at the strategic juncture of the Jezreel and Jordan Valleys. Like Jericho, Beit-Shean has been almost continuously occupied throughout history. After defeating Saul and his sons on Mt. Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beit-Shean. During the time of Jesus, Scythopolis was one of the chief cities of the Decapolis, a league of ten cities sharing Greek culture and government. Following the fertile Jordan Valley southward, our guide will point out the agricultural restoration of the “Land of Milk and Honey” and Israel’s intricate irrigation development. We pass ancient Jericho and view from a distance this city famed as the oldest in the world. To the east of Jericho along the Jordan River Valley (Queser El Yehud) is the Israeli side of Bethany Beyond the Jordan. In this area Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan, and the children of Israel, led by Joshua, entered the Promised Land. Afterwards we proceed to Ein Gedi, "Spring of the Goat," an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Because of its warm climate and abundant supply of water, the site developed a reputation for its fragrant plants and date palm groves. This is where King David hid from Saul, and where God defeated the enemies of the Israelites by praise and worship led by King Jehoshaphat. Our lodging for the evening is at the Dead Sea – the lowest place on earth. Spend time in the special spa and enjoy a dip in the Dead Sea for a relaxing float before dinner.

Day 9: Masada, Dead Sea Scrolls, Abraham's Tent

tour israel y petra

Our day begins with a cable car ride to the mountain top fortress of Masada. Here our guide will treat us to the history of the famous zealot stand. Next, we visit Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This afternoon we will take part in the Genesis Land Dinner in Abraham's Tent, where we enjoy a trip back into the time of the Patriarchs, complete with costume, dramatic presentation, camel ride, and authentic food. Our lodging for the next four nights will be in Jerusalem.

Day 10: Around Jerusalem, Bible Times, Bethlehem

This morning we will visit the Wailing Wall and then the fascinating Rabbinical Tunnels leading us through the Second Temple era. The tunnel and exhibit give a clear understanding of the amazing construction of the Temple Mount, massive stones, water supply, and Roman street where our Lord was led to judgment. Before exiting the tunnel, we see the immense cornerstone rejected by the builders. We move on to the Judgment Hall of Pilate, hear of those who conspired against Him, and are reminded of His brutal beating and humiliation. From here we will also be able to see the Pool of Bethesda, Stephen's Gate and St. Ann’s Church. This afternoon we visit the Southern Wall excavations. This southern side of The Temple was the main entrance for the common folk, whereas the Priests and Levites had their own entrance from the higher eastern side. Parts of the giant stairs, which led to the Temple Mount from the courtyard have been unearthed along with the purification pools. From here Jesus entered the Temple Mount and drove out the vendors and money exchangers who were exploiting the people. It is also likely that this is the place that Peter stood and preached and where thousands were saved and baptized on the Day of Pentecost. We spend the remainder of the day surrounding the birth of Christ with an optional visit to Bethlehem or some free time in the Old City to shop.

Day 11: Jesus' Steps, Last Days, Way of Suffering, Garden Tomb

tour israel y petra

Today we walk where Jesus walked. We begin the day with a panoramic view of the city, Mount Moriah, and the Dome of the Rock from atop the Mount of Olives and then walk through the Garden of Gethsemane. How many have wished to be whisked back in time to get a glimpse of our Lord or hear His voice if only for a moment? To walk between the ancient olive trees, read the scriptures of Jesus' prayer and take time for personal reflection is important here. Passing by the Protestant Cemetery, we visit the "Upper Room" just outside the Zion Gate where the disciple whom Jesus loved laid his head on His breast and where later Thomas cried, "My Lord & my God." While walking along the Via Dolorosa, we are reminded of His way of suffering along with a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Our guide will explain the differing opinions about the actual place of crucifixion and burial - a very interesting study. The climax of the day is the area of Golgotha (“place of the skull”) and the Garden Tomb, where we celebrate the resurrection with communion and a time of praise.

Day 12: Israel Museum, Friends of Zion Museum, House of Caiaphas, Yad Vashem

tour israel y petra

An interesting and educational time awaits us today at the Israeli Museum. Walk through collections of centuries-old Israeli artifacts including the Dead Sea Scrolls and then a guided walk through an accurately detailed model of Biblical Jerusalem. This model will help put into perspective all that we have seen over the previous days’ touring. We then visit the Friends of Zion Museum to learn of the 19th and 20th century heroes of the Jewish people. Next, we spend time at the House of Caiaphas where Jesus was beaten and spit upon. We see a pit where He may have been held for the evening and the ancient hillside steps He walked as He was taken to be condemned. We conclude the day with a visit to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum, for a needed reminder of what the Jews have suffered as a people. This evening we enjoy a special lecture by a local believer prior to dinner, giving us a perspective of Messianic life in Israel.

Day 13: Arrive Izmir

We fly to Izmir and transfer to our hotel in the lovely port city of Kusadasi, Turkey for the next two evenings. The remainder of your day is free to walk along the scenic waterfront, sightsee on your own and enjoy your hotel facilities. (B, D)

Day 14: Ephesus

tour israel y petra

We travel to the nearby town of Selcuk for a visit of ancient Ephesus. Ephesus was once a thriving port town of 250,000 people. Today you can still see the spectacular excavations of the major streets in this ancient city. We view the Library, Agora, theatre, colorful mosaics in the aristocratic Terrace Houses, and a panoramic outlook of the surrounding ancient port area (including a wealth of church history and cultural insight). Then we continue with a visit to the Basilica Church of St. John, which houses an immersion baptismal and is believed to be resting place of John. From here we have an excellent overview of the Ephesus harbor, the Mosque of Jesus, and see the site of the Temple of Artemis, which is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. (B, D)

Day 15: Isle of Patmos

This morning, we embark our cruise ship and sail for a visit to the beautiful Isle of Patmos, which is under statutory protection as a historic monument. Here we have a tour to see the fortified monastery of St. John and the cave claimed to be where John received the Revelation. Back on the ship, enjoy dinner before settling in to your cabin for the night. (B, D)

Day 16: Crete & Beautiful Santorini

tour israel y petra

Crete is the largest and the most rugged of the Greek islands. Take a tour to Heraklion and the fantastic ruins of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 and partially reconstructed, the elaborate Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture. This afternoon visit the island of Santorini which is perhaps the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands. You may choose to take an optional panoramic bus tour viewing some of the most spectacular scenery of the Aegean. Travel through countless villages and settlements with delicate architecture and beauties eventually arriving in Oia. During your time in Oia, visit the many narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques. Upon returning to the ship, we view the lace-like caldera, the little islands of Thirasia, Palea, & Nea Kameni. We arrive at the ship for dinner and evening entertainment. (B, D)

Day 17: Disembark Cruise – Ancient Corinth & Cenchreae

tour israel y petra

We disembark the cruise this morning and travel west with a rest stop and photos at the Corinth Canal. Next, we visit ancient Corinth, the city that inspired many of Paul's most familiar letters and is a highlight for the New Testament scholar. See the Archaeological Museum, the Market Place, the Bema, and the Temples. To enjoy a devotional in the midst of the ruins of the church of Corinth and see the pillars, steps, and public worship place where Paul preached will enhance your understanding and love for the Bible. The ruins of this important cultural center are fascinating as we walk along the stone path that the Apostle Paul walked. The engineering skill and intellect of these people are evident in the water systems that still flow from ancient to modern day. Our guide will be sure to show you the room dedicated to the medical care of that period. We travel on to the top of the nearby Acropolis where our guide will speak on the worship practices and point out the bird’s eye view of what was a bustling city of around 800,000 during Paul’s stay. Another important stop is a visit to Diolkos where we view the paved trackway which enabled boats to be moved overland across the Isthmus of Corinth and served as a life line for Corinth. This shortcut allowed ancient vessels to avoid the long and dangerous circumnavigation of the Peloponnese peninsula. Before returning to Athens, we will visit Cenchreae, the ancient port region of Corinth. Acts 18:18 states the Apostle Paul stopped at Cenchreae during his second missionary journey, where he had his hair cut to fulfill a vow. (B, D)

Day 18: Athens

tour israel y petra

Following breakfast this morning we tour Athens, the foundation of democracy. We visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and Erectheum before viewing Athens atop Mars Hill where Paul stood and preached the truth to the Gentile nation. From atop Mars Hill we view the Agora below, the ancient marketplace and center of Athenian public life. Additional sites viewed during our panoramic bus tour are, the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Olympic Stadium, and Presidential Palace. An option later this afternoon is a visit to the famous Plaka with a multitude of shops and cafes. (B, D)

Day 19: Meteora Monastery

From Athens, our tour travels northward past Thermopylae where we learn of the famous Spartan battle of 300. We continue through the mountains to Meteroa. Here we see the world famous Byzantine monasteries that are perched precariously on summits of gray rock pinnacles of varied and beautiful shapes. Their history goes back to the 14th century when the monks sought refuge in the cliffside caves then fled higher to build the original wooden shelters, later transformed into monasteries. Our lodging this evening will be in Meteora. (B, D)

Day 20: Vergina, Berea, Thessalonica

tour israel y petra

Traveling north this morning, our first stop will be a visit to King Phillip's (Alexander's father) tomb in Vergina, one of the most outstanding finds in all of Greece. We then make the short trip to nearby Berea to view the synagogue wher Paul preached. We stop at the Bema surrounded by mosaics of Paul and the plaque of scripture regarding the "more noble" church. The New Testament books of I & II Thessalonians will come alive to us today as we arrive in the delightful harbor city of Thessalonica. En route to the hotel we will view the old city ramparts; the newly excavated Forum, St. George Church, an ancient Roman monument which was transformed into a church and the Galerius Arch which rises over the famous Via Egnatia. We spend two nights here. (B, D)

Day 21: Thessalonica/Philippi/Kavala

tour israel y petra

We begin the day by following the massive battlement Byzantine wall to the citadel for a panoramic view of the city. Next, we will visit Philippi and Kavala. Kavala is Greece's prettiest mainland port with a most elegant harbor. Paul landed here with his disciples, Timothy and Silas. Luke, the Evangelist, also came here from Troas. This ancient city of Neapolis was later renamed Christoupolis because it was the first European city to accept Christianity. Imagine walking on the same sod as these men of the Bible! We will see the Roman Aqueduct and the ruins of the Acropolis in this beautifully located city, known since the 5th century as Kavala. Continue on to Philippi where Paul preached his first evangelical sermon and baptized the first Christians on European soil. We will view the baptismal site where Lydia surrendered her life to Christ and visit a crypt dating from the Roman period that is thought to have served as a prison for Paul. See the famous Acropolis, the Market Place, Basilica, and the Theatre. We return to Thessalonica and visit St. Demetrius Basilica, dedicated to a distinguished member of the Roman army and a martyred Christian convert, before returning to the hotel for our final night. (B, D)

Day 22: Home

A very early morning departure for the Thessaloniki Airport for our flight homeward will allow for arrival home by early afternoon.

*The tour itinerary is subject to change or be slightly modified in order to best meet the interests of the group. Important Note: Although the itinerary above obviously emphasizes the spiritual aspect of this marvelous country, our guides are also experts in and passionate about the miracle of the return of the Jews and the restoration of the state of Israel. This fact, along with many modern day topics (military, politics, education, and other cultural aspects), will be woven into the commentary in order to give you well rounded information.

Petra Tours From Jerusalem & Tel Aviv Reviews

#1. petra, jerash, and amman: 2-day tour from jerusalem.

  • Departure Point : Abraham Hostel, Davidka Square, Jerusalem
  • Departure Time: 7:00 AM
  • Duration : 2 days
  • Includes : Expert guide, transportation to Petra, Jerash, & Amman, lunch and dinner on day one, breakfast and lunch on day two, overnight stay with Bedouins, travel app, and entrance fees

Jerash is a stunning example of a Roman colonial city, where you can tread along colonnaded streets, view the bathhouse, visit temples, and walk around the oval forum.

Jerash is one of the biggest and best-preserved Roman sites outside of Italy and is sometimes called the Pompeii of the Middle East due to its great preservation and the size of the site.

Amman is not only the capital city of Jordan, but it’s also the location of the world-renowned archaeological site of the Amman Citadel. Here you can see extremely well-preserved ruins from millennia of continuous settlement.

In the citadel, you’ll see structures belonging to the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods. The most stunning structures include the Umayyad Palace, a Byzantine church, and the Temple of Hercules.

Expand To See More See Less

But the highlight of this tour is a whole day devoted to the city of Petra. Founded in the 4 th -century BCE, Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom. Its buildings carved out from the red sandstone are unique.

The elaborate tombs to the south of the city are particularly popular with visitors, especially the 1 st -century CE mausoleum of King Aretas IV, known today as The Treasury.

With its ornate, columned facade, it’s easy to understand why the first visitors to the site imagined this must be a location where great treasures were stored.

Personally, I love ancient ruins, so this is my favorite excursion among the Petra tours from Israel. You get to visit 3 different classical settlements.

Tour Information & Booking

100% refund for cancellations within 24 hours of tour experience, #2. from tel aviv: petra day trip with roundtrip flights.

  • Departure Point : Hotel pick-up
  • Departure Time: 6:40 AM
  • Duration : 12 hours
  • Includes : English-speaking guide, return flight to Ben Guiron in Tel Aviv, lunch, and entry to Petra

This is a great tour if you’re in a hurry and don’t mind an early morning wake-up call. Flying is a wonderful way to get from Jerusalem to Petra.

With the help of an air flight, you’ll be able to take in all the wonders of Petra within one day.

If you like horses, you’ll be delighted to hear that you can opt to travel the first 650 feet into Petra on horseback. Once inside the ancient city, your expert guide will lead you around the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom.

Get your camera ready because the rock-cut architecture here is unique. Somehow the ancients were able to carve great monuments from the red sandstone cliffs, and the resulting structures are far more palatial than anything you see being built today with the aid of machines and power tools.

This tour also includes an authentic local meal in Jordan and photo opportunities at scenic points around the Wadi Rum desert. You’ll return to Jerusalem with memories that will last you a lifetime.

#3. From Tel Aviv: Petra 1-Day Guided Tour with Transfers

  • Departure Point : Pickup and drop-off from Tel-Aviv
  • Departure Time: 4:00 AM
  • Duration : 1 day
  • Includes : Experienced guide, transport to Petra and Aqaba, lunch, and entrance fees

Aqaba is Jordan’s only coastal city and a major historical site. In fact, recently archaeologists unearthed what is believed to be the world’s earliest purpose-built church, dated to 303 CE or earlier.

That’s even older than the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem or the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem!

Aqaba boasts a busy port, a ruined fortress, and many Roman archaeological sites. It has also played an important part in modern world history, particularly in connection with Lawrence of Arabia during World War I.

But the highlight of this tour is your guided tour around Petra, the famous archaeological site located in Jordan’s southwestern desert. You’ll marvel at the amazing structures carved out of the red sandstone cliffs by the Nabataean Arabs.

#4. From Jerusalem: Petra Day Tour

  • Departure Point : David Citadel Hotel, Jerusalem
  • Departure Times: 3:00 AM
  • Duration : 21 Hours
  • Includes : Expert tour guide, transport to Petra, snack box & water, and entrance fees

En route to Petra, you can enjoy the mountainous scenery from inside an air-conditioned vehicle. Imagine how little this landscape has changed from the times when the Romans arrived to absorb the tiny Nabatean kingdom into their vast empire.

Within the ancient Nabatean capital, you’ll see the fantastic structures carved into the red sandstone cliffs. The ancient tombs, including the “Treasury”, will leave you in awe.

The amphitheater and monastery will impress you because of their amazing state of preservation.

After experiencing one of the 7 Wonders of the World, enjoy another scenic journey. The vehicle will stop several times in the Wadi Rum so you can appreciate the beautiful landscape and maybe take some photographs.

#5. Petra & Wadi Rum Desert 3-day Tour from Amman

  • Departure Point : Hotel pick-up and drop off in Amman
  • Departure Times : 8:00 AM
  • Duration : 10 hours
  • Includes : Experienced local guide, transport to Petra and Aqaba, 2-nights’ accommodation, lunch, dinner, & breakfast, Jeep safari, and entrance fees

On your first day, you’ll enter the famous city of Petra via the ¾-mile-long gorge known as the Sik. This was an important feature in ancient times because it aided Nabatean guards to protect their capital from attack.

Archaeologists have discovered underground chambers along the Sik they believe accommodated the guards.

Once inside the Nabatean capital, you can gape at the well-preserved structures carved out of the red sandstone cliffs around 2,000 years ago. The most photographed is the tomb of King Aretas IV, referred to as The Treasury.

Your English-speaking, local guide will take you around the impressive ruin and help you understand what life was like in Petra 2,000 years ago.

That night, you’ll experience Bedouin hospitality as you eat traditional food and spend the night in a tent.

On your second day, you’ll explore the Wadi Rum, a protected desert wilderness. On this Jeep safari, you’ll see the dramatic sandstone landscape, with natural arches and mountains.

The oasis of Lawrence Spring is named in honor of Lawrence of Arabia, the World War I hero.

You’ll spend your second night in a 3-star hotel in Petra. In the morning, you’ll be transported to the port of Aqaba, which is Jordan’s only coastal city and an important historic site.

There you’ll see a ruined fort and Roman archaeological sites.

Jerusalem Travel Guide

Jerusalem is a hotbed of controversy. It’s been attacked 52 times, captured 44 times, and destroyed twice. Even today, two nations claim it as their capital city, and neither claim is widely accepted.

But that also makes it one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

There are more things to see and do in Jerusalem than can be fit into a brief travel guide like this, but I’m going to provide an introduction to this amazing city and a taste of what it has to offer.

And if you’re planning to visit Jerusalem, I hope this guide will help you plan your journey.

Airports & Entry

Ben Gurion International Airport , commonly known as Natbag, is located 28 miles northwest of Jerusalem. Natbag handled almost 23 million passengers in 2018 and is the busiest airport in Israel.

You’ll find it extremely busy during important Jewish holidays, but quiet during the Shabbat (sunset Friday to sunset on Saturday) when El-Al does not operate any flights.

Natbag currently has 2 open terminals, and International flights are handled by Terminal 3 and domestic by Terminal 1 (Terminal 2 was closed and demolished).

The airport is notorious for its lengthy and strict security procedures, so plan to arrive early for your departing flight so you don’t miss it.

Terminal 3 is a 4-story building, but you only need to think about floors G and 3 because S and 2 are used for public transport. G is for arrivals and 3 for Departures.

Arriving passengers walk past a long window that looks down into the plaza—the Departure area restaurants and shopping hall.

You’ll find the Information Desks in the Greeter’s Hall landside, opposite Entrance 3 landside, in the Check-In Hall landside, opposite Entrance 32, and in the Rotunda Airside.

There’s also a Tourist Information booth in the Arrivals Hall where the Ministry of Tourism provides free maps, arranges hotel reservations, and provides general assistance.

For passengers with kids, there are multiple children’s playrooms around Terminal 3 Airside and Terminal 1 Airside.

The Mother & Child Room in the Departures Hall in Terminal 3 Airside provides a sink, changing table, and crib. Mobile charging stations are located throughout Terminals 1 and 3, and free Wi-Fi is available from the airport’s “Netvision” network.

ATMs are scattered all over the airport, and Yahav Bank provides full banking services in Terminal 1 Landside, though it’s closed on Fridays and Saturdays. There are 3 currency exchange booths in Terminal 3: Landside Baggage Claim, Landside Eastern Hall, and Landside Check-In. In Terminal 1, you can only go to Yahav Bank for currency exchange.

Once service you’ll love is the Traveler’s Box kiosk. They convert any leftover holiday change into emoney in the Arrivals Hall Landside next to the currency exchange booth.

There is a good selection of food outlets, including Pizza Hut, CaféCafé, Burger Ranch, and Israel’s popular Aroma Espresso Bar chain.

All the restaurants prepare kosher food. You cannot smoke in the restaurants, except for inside Schmoozy’s Pub in the Rotunda. Smoking within the airport is restricted to a few designated locations both Airside and Landside.

Natbag boasts an incredible number of stores, like a shopping mall. You’ll find stores selling everything, from Victoria’s Secret to sports clothes and equipment, from Swarovski crystal gifts to a toy shop.

In the event of a medical emergency, you’ll find First Aid stations in Terminal 1’s Greeter’s Hall near Gate 21 and in Terminal 3 Departures in the Duty-Free area next to the Mother & Child Room. For air sickness and headache pills, SkyPharm Pharmacy is in Terminal 3 on floor 3.

For those of a religious inclination, there are 3 synagogues: Terminal 3 Duty-Free Hall Airside, Greeter’s Hall Airside, and Terminal 1, Eastern Hall Airside, near Gate 2.

You won’t have any trouble reaching Jerusalem from Natbag since there are multiple public transport options on Levels S and 2.

That is, you won’t have problems as long as you aren’t traveling during the Shabbat (Friday to Saturday) or during a Jewish holiday, because then the railway station closes. On normal weekdays, the easiest and most efficient method is to take a train.

Ben Gurion Airport Train Station is found in Terminal 3’s lower level, and the services to Jerusalem are run by Israel Railways .

The direct train service to Jerusalem’s ultra-modern Jerusalem-Yitzhak Navon Railway Station runs every 30 minutes and takes less than 25 minutes. Except on the Shabbat…when it doesn’t run!

There are multiple bus services run by different companies linking the airport to Jerusalem. Some require you to change coaches at El-Al Junction, but Afkim runs a 24-hour service that departs on the hour every hour called Route 485 . As you might have guessed, it doesn’t operate on the Shabbat!

On the Shabbat, your best option is to take a sherut. This is a private minibus that takes around 10 passengers and runs like a taxi service. Sheruts are found on Level G outside Arrivals.

Alternatively, you can hire a rental car from the Level 1 Arrivals Hall or take a taxi. Taxis are available 24/7, and you’ll find dispatchers in Terminal 3 Level G, Exit Gate 3, and Terminal 1, Gate 3.

I strongly advise you only arrange a taxi through the airport dispatchers.

The formula for calculating taxi fares is complex, but you can use this fare calculator provided by the airport to estimate the likely cost of your journey. This is the most expensive way to reach Jerusalem from Natbag.

Planning Tips

Jerusalem is one of those must-see destinations that most people want to visit at some time in their life. I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time there. To ensure you do, here are 5 tips to help you plan your journey.

Tip #1: Avoid weekends

If you’re only spending a few days in Jerusalem, aim to visit midweek, Monday to Thursday. Friday is the Islamic day of prayers, Saturday is the Jewish Shabbat, and Sunday is the Christian Sabbath. On these days, many key attractions will be closed. Whatever you do, try not to arrive or leave on the Shabbat. You’ll find it much less convenient to travel when most public transport is either closed or running a restricted service.

Tip #2: Book tickets in advance, especially during Easter and Christmas

Can you imagine how crowded it gets in Jerusalem around Easter? Hotels are fully booked and tours sell out. Even during other times of the year, Jerusalem is a popular destination. Do yourself a favor and book your hotel, transport, and any tours well in advance.

Tip #3: Go during fall

During winter, the weather is unpredictable, and the holiday season brings disruption and chaos as the arrival of many pilgrims coincides with the closure of many businesses and services. Spring is great weather-wise, but Easter also draws huge crowds. Summer can be a little hot for some, especially if you have elderly or young relatives along. During the fall, the weather is just right and it’s less crowded.

Tip #4: Buy unique souvenirs

You can find some great unique gifts for your friends around Jerusalem. Check out the Mahane Yehuda Market for traditional arts and crafts as well as tasty Israeli delicacies that you can take home with you.

Tip #5: Dress appropriately

The religious sites in Jerusalem are not museums of the ancient past. They are places where devout people gather today to pray and worship. So, be respectful of others’ faith. Men should wear a head covering in some places, and women should cover up and, for some sites, wear a headscarf. Research each religious attraction before visiting to avoid embarrassment.

Restaurants & Eating Out

Because so many Israelis migrated here from other nations, you’ll find a creative blend of cuisines from all around the world.

Popular foods include hummus, falafel, salads, fresh fish from the Jordan River, halvah, and fresh fruit juices.

And with the kosher and halal restrictions on food within the local population, many of these foreign dishes have transformed into something unique.

Israelis believe Breakfast is the most important meal, and this is reflected in their food. Shakshouka is a popular breakfast staple of poached eggs in a tomato, pepper, and onion sauce.

They also love bourekas, which are flaky dough pastries filled with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, salty cheese, or spinach. Bourekas are often eaten alongside hard-boiled eggs, pickles, and dipping sauces.

A breakfast menu might also include pickled or smoked fish, fresh salad, and various popular cheeses. With the kosher and international influences, you’ll also find croissants, bagels, whole grain bread, yogurt, tahini, and hummus.

Israeli salad is a delicious, cooling dish consisting of chopped cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, onion, lemon juice, olive oil, and herbs. In Jerusalem, it’s frequently eaten at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Later in the day, shawarma is a popular Middle-Eastern dish made from thinly-sliced meat stuffed into pita bread. These are often topped with cucumber, tomato, tahini, tabbouleh, hummus, or pickled turnips.

Originally, shawarma was made with lamb but today you’ll also find buffalo, beef, veal, and chicken varieties in Jerusalem.

Falafels are immensely popular in Israel. These are fried balls of ground chickpeas mixed with onions and various spices and served in a pita bread pocket. These are often topped with peppers, pickles, or tomtoes, and moistened with a tangy green sauce and tahini.

The many immigrants who settled here have each introduced their own traditional cheese into the local cuisine.

So, if you wander into a local cheese shop, like Basher’s Fromagerie , you’ll find as many as 850 varieties of goat cheese, feta, labeneh, gouda, and creamy cottage cheese.

If you noticed all the sweet shops at the airport, you won’t be surprised to discover that desserts feature prominently in local menus.

Halvah made using tahini and sesame is especially popular and usually appears in the form of cylindrical cakes or slabs in a broad variety of flavors, such as vanilla or chocolate.

At The Halva Kingdom store, you’ll find over 100 varieties of halvah to choose from, such as coffee, pecan, coconut, and pistachio.

Kanafeh is a curious confection that I can only describe as a kind of cheesecake is a traditional Middle-Eastern dish consisting of thin pastry soaked in syrup and layered with kaymak cheese then topped with pistachio.

And Israelis do love their honey-drenched pastries. Baklava is immensely popular, with layers of filo dough filled with chopped pistachios or almonds.

You can buy fantastic baklava from the Shawar Bakery & Patisserie in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. Shawar Bakery has been run by the same family for 300 years, so they must be doing something right.

You can find many of these traditional foods at the Mahane Yehuda Market , locally known as The Shuk. This huge bazzar in the center of Jerusalem contains over 250 stalls selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to textiles.

The Shuk is a great place to sample local foods, and there are fast food outlets selling shawarma, falafel, kebabs, baklava, halva, and Jerusalem mixed grill. It’s also a great place to go for unique souvenirs. But, like so many businesses in Jerusalem, the whole market closes for the Shabbat.

Nightlife & Entertainment

While Jerusalem isn’t as well known for its nightlife as Tel Aviv, there are still plenty of bars, clubs, and other great venues where you can let off steam late at night.

The Mahane Yehuda Market mentioned above is a surprising choice for nightlife, but in the past few years the old bazar has transformed into a lively nightlife spot with its selection of trendy bars, such as The Shuka, Que Pasa, Fifth of May, and Casino de Paris.

Moving from The Shuk toward Zion Square, you’ll find the center of Jerusalem’s nightlife in the side streets off Jaffa Street. Near the square, you’ll find The Sira, which is a dance club and hipster hangout. And for live music, check out The Little Pinkas, a lively bar based in a unique building that offers low-priced drinks during its “happy hour”, which ends at 10:30 PM.

Other popular bars in the city center area include the Oliver Twist student dance club, with 3 bars and a dance floor, and the Toy Bar, another nightclub popular with students and other young people.

Although the Old City is not a great place to find bars and clubs, toward the end of June every year it hosts The Light Festival . The ancient architecture of the Old City is illuminated in a dramatic fashion, light statues are installed around the center, and there are street and onstage performances by artists from all around Israel.

Getting Around

Most of the top attractions in Jerusalem are found inside the city walls and within walking distance of each other. If you plan to spend most of your time in the Old City admiring the ancient architecture, you’re better off sticking to walking.

Walking is the best way to explore all the back alleyways and picturesque neighborhoods. It’s also the only way to really sample the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. But you might like to buy a folding, pocket-sized street map before you go.

If you want to expand your exploration, you can always take a bus. All the buses in Jerusalem are run by Egged . They provide an extensive network of services, and if you’re environmentally conscious like me, you’ll be delighted to discover that Egged are committed to converting their fleet of buses from diesel to electric.

Single rides on an Egged bus are extremely cheap. We’re talking around $1.40 cheap! But, (and isn’t there always a but?!) you can’t pay on the bus. You must use a prepaid Rav Kav Card .

You purchase your Rav Kav Card for about $1.32 and then load it with money for your fare before taking your first bus ride. You can get these smart cards from the Central Bus Station, any Cofix Coffee Bar , and other outlets around the city. You can then top them up at any light rail station or from automatic machines dotted around the city.

The city also boasts a brand-new Light Rail Transit . Sadly, this currently only operates one line, for which you’ll again need your prepaid Rav Kav Card . But if the route you wish to take coincides with the Light Rail service, I’d recommend you take it.

The current Light Rail Transit service completely avoids the Old City, but it does stop at some key locations, like Damascus Gate and the Central Bus Station. Typical fares are around $1.75.

The problem with the above public transport options is that, like with many businesses, the services are limited during the Shabbat. If you want to get around on a Saturday, you’re probably best off taking a taxi.

You can hail a taxi anywhere in Jerusalem. If you can’t see one, you can order one through your hotel or on the net, but there’s a surcharge for ordering in advance.

By law, when you get in the cab, the taxi driver should turn on the meter. However, some taxi drivers will quote a price and then, if you accept the price, they won’t use the meter. While this is common, and the price they offer may be fair, you’re not obliged to agree. You can insist they use the meter.

If the taxi driver states that their meter is broken, you’ve unfortunately encountered a con-artist. They are out to overcharge you for your journey.

The Ministry of Transport set taxi fare rates, so you should pay exactly the same no matter which cab you jump into. However, you’ll pay much more for rides on the Shabbat, during Jewish holidays, and at night.

There are also complex rules regarding luggage in the trunk and more than two passengers, which mean you’ll pay more. There is a website that helps you estimate taxi fares around Jerusalem.

You can, of course, hire a rental car and drive yourself. However, I wouldn’t recommend this. Traffic can be busy around the tourist attractions and city center, and Israeli drivers may be more aggressive than you are used to.

Accommodations

If you’re mainly interested in the historical and cultural attractions in Jerusalem, then the best place to stay is in or near the Old City. In this way, you’re within walking distance of the buildings and places you want to visit.

The Old City is also super quiet at night (except for during the Light Festival ) and you’ll be immersed in the rich culture of this ancient city during the day.

Sadly, the Old City is tiny. It only covers an area of 0.35 square miles. And much of that space is taken up with ancient monuments, museums, and businesses. That means there aren’t many places to stay in the Old City.

The popular Hashimi Hotel is situated within the city walls. It provides stunning terrace views and scores 8/10 on Booking.Com and 4/5 on TripAdvisor.

You can get a comfy and convenient room for around $90. Or if you want something more luxurious, the 5-star Mamilla Hotel is located just outside the city walls.

You’ll find a lot more hotels around the new city center around Zion Square, from historic boutique hotels for the discerning to basic hostels for backpackers. This is also where you’ll find the nightlife, and you’ll be swapping the quiet of the Old Town for busy clubs, bars, cafés, and restaurants.

The Dan Boutique Hotel is a trendy and youthful hotel situated a mere 20-minutes-walk from the Old Town. It’s near the Old Turkish Railway Station, which offers boutique shops, restaurants, and entertainment, and the Mamilla Shopping Center, where you can buy unique Israeli jewelry, fashion, and art.

At the other end of the spectrum is the extremely popular and high-rated (9.2 on Booking.com!) Stay Inn Hostel . This basic hostel boasts a sun terrace, evening entertainment, garden, free Wi-Fi, and a full “English breakfast” or buffet.

It’s 1½ miles from the Old City, but what’s a 13-minute walk when it only costs $25 for a shared room with bathroom?

Heading out from the center, Musrara is an area of the new city famed for its art schools, public art exhibitions, and concerts.

It’s a quieter area than the city center and offers good eating at reasonable prices in local cafés and restaurants. In this area, you’ll find affordable hotels and plenty of hostels.

But if you want somewhere a bit more exclusive, the German Colony is a prestigious suburb only a short walk from the Old City. Here you’ll find luxury apartments and expensive mansions.

The streets boast trendy restaurants, fashion boutiques, and markets. The German Colony is great if you want to experience colonial charm.

Jerusalem has a Mediterranean climate. It experiences hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Given that the weather is relatively good all year round, you can enjoy a visit to Jerusalem at any time. Personally, I’d recommend spring or fall when it’s not too hot and not too cold.

In summer, it rarely rains and can grow too hot for sightseeing. If you plan to visit outdoor attractions, the best time to visit them is early morning before the sun bakes the ground.

Alternatively, visit in the evening. August is the hottest month when average temperatures range from 67 0 F to 85 0 F.

It’s pleasant and sunny in the fall, and this is a good time to explore the Old City. There is some rainfall but not much. In November, average temperatures range from 54 0 F to 66 0 F.

In winter, the weather is generally mild, but it can fluctuate. Some winters are sunny, while others bring really cold weather.

Jerusalem even experiences rare snowstorms. December through February sees the most rainfall, peaking in January. Average temperatures range from 44 0 F to 53 0 F in January, the coldest month.

During spring, rainfall rapidly decreases from March to May, and the days grow hotter. Average temperatures in April range from 55 0 F to 71 0 F.

Attractions

Most visitors to Jerusalem come either because of their religious beliefs or a fascination with history. Because this city is sacred to 3 major religions, it is awash with major religious attractions.

And given that the city has changed hands at least 44 times (those are only the times listed in recorded history), it is rich in unique archaeological sites relating to many different historical cultures.

The Old City is the place where you’ll find most of the attractions, and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here’s where you’ll find the Wailing Wall , the Dome of the Rock , and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher .

These attractions and more are found within the 16 th -century city walls. Up until 1860, the Old City was the whole of Jerusalem, but since then the city has grown exponentially.

Everything inside the Old City is within easy walking distance, and it’s probably where you’ll spend most of your time when visiting Jerusalem.

The Western “Wailing” Wall is a key place to visit whatever your beliefs. It’s the last remaining structure from the famous Second Temple built by Herod the Great. The Wailing Wall is the holiest place in the Jewish faith where Jews are allowed to pray.

The Western Wall is considered a synagogue by those who administer the site, so synagogue rules apply to any visitors.

This means the segregation of males and females, mandatory headwear, and signs of respect. Even if you have no religious faith, you cannot fail to be moved by the expressions of faith and emotions of the visitors to this holy shrine.

Next to Jaffa Gate, within the city walls, you’ll find the Tower of David . This citadel provides spectacular views over the Old City from its crenelated ramparts. The building itself is fascinating enough to make it a key attraction, but it is the museum inside you’ll love.

The museum showcases the history of Jerusalem from the second millennium BCE to the foundation of the modern State of Israel.

The city’s story is told through films, dioramas, and models. And the museum also contains artifacts found during archaeological excavations of the citadel that relate to this story.

Outside the city walls to the south is the City of David. During the 19 th -century expansion of Jerusalem, many archaeological sites were uncovered relating to the much older City of David mentioned in the Bible.

A particularly popular exhibit in this area is Hezekiah’s Tunnel, which visitors can now explore. This tunnel dates back to the 8 th -century BCE, and many believe it is the “waterworks” recorded in 2 Kings 20:20 .

To the east of the Old City, you can find the Mount of Olives . Not only does this hillside provide great views of the Old City, but it’s also significant as the location of the Garden of Gethsemane .

The hill served as a burial ground for the city for over 3,000 years and contains more than 150,000 graves. It is frequently mentioned in both the Tanakh and the Gospels.

The Israel Museum is well worth a visit. If you’re interested in the Wailing Wall and the Second Temple, here’s where you’ll find the best Second Temple model, which uses the latest archaeological evidence to recreate the famous lost temple. The museum contains an amazing range of exhibits as well as a great collection of Jewish fine art.

I think Vad Vashem is a must-see. It’s the official memorial to the millions of souls lost during the Holocaust. It’s a shrine dedicated to reminding future generations about what was lost, why it happened, and the meaning of it all. Every year, over 800,000 people pay their respects here.

There’s more to see and do in Jerusalem than you can do in a year, but it’s also a great base from which to explore other interesting places.

Bethlehem is just 6 miles away and a must-see for Christians. It’s only 65 miles from Jerusalem to the famous fortress of Masada , which is one of the most popular attractions in Israel.

The Dead Sea isn’t too far away for an excursion. A swim there is both a weird and amazing experience. And it’s only a short trip over the border into Jordan, where you can see the most incredible ancient city in the world—Petra.

  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code IJE.
  • You will walk for at least 3 hours daily across uneven terrain, including paved roads, cobblestone streets, and dirt paths, with some steep hills.
  • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
  • You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times.
  • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group as a whole enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing, individualized assistance to any one traveler.
  • If you have any mobility concerns or physical restrictions, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
  • Your Tour Director, who’s also an Egyptologist, will be with you throughout the duration of your Egypt tour. There will also be additional staff working alongside your Tour Director to confirm logistics, as well as assist with transfers and on-tour flights. Having these staffers, who are solely focused on ensuring all on-tour logistics go smoothly, allows your Tour Director to dedicate even more one-on-one time to teaching your group about Egyptian history and culture. While it’s customary to tip your Tour Director, you don’t need to tip these additional staff members.
  • You will have a different Tour Director in each country on this tour.
  • Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in Tel Aviv and depart from Cairo. A representative from Go Ahead Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Please remain in the arrival lounge, as the representative might be escorting one of your fellow travelers to the bus at the time of your arrival.
  • Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included for travelers who have purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who purchase their own flights may request airport transfers with Go Ahead Tours for an additional cost.
  • A flight from Amman to Cairo is included in the price of your tour. The tour extension also includes a roundtrip flight between Luxor to Cairo.
  • All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
  • Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which may include train connections or flights.
  • Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights, which may include on-tour flights in addition to your round-trip flights to and from tour. Please note that your included on-tour flights may have more restrictive baggage limits.
  • Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage or exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
  • We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.
  • A sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended for outdoor activities.
  • A small bottle of hand sanitizer may be helpful when other facilities are not readily available while on the road.
  • You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
  • It is preferable not to visit churches, temples, mosques, or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
  • At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov.
  • Please be sure to take proper care with sun exposure, as the sun can be especially strong in some of the areas you are visiting.
  • Drink bottled water only while in Egypt. Refrain from drinking tap water, including when brushing your teeth.
  • Bring a small first aid kit, including antacids, antidiarrhea medication, motion sickness medication, and any prescription medications in your carry-on bag.
  • In Egypt, avoid eating fresh fruits and vegetables unless they are cooked or washed in clean water and peeled.
  • Public restrooms in Egypt can be quite bare. We suggest carrying bathroom tissue and hand sanitizer with you.
  • Depending on season and weather patterns, air pollution in Cairo may be problematic for travelers with a history of respiratory problems. Based on your health history, please discuss any precautions with your healthcare provider prior to departure.
  • If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered.
  • Certain over-the-counter and prescription medications may be banned in one or all of the countries on this tour. Importing these drugs can carry severe consequences, including imprisonment. Please consult your healthcare provider prior to departure to ensure that any drugs you may want to bring with you are legal in all countries you will visit.
  • If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call our Customer Experience Team.
  • Israeli food is invariably fresh and very carefully prepared. A typical breakfast may consist of sourdough bread with sheep’s-milk cheese and olives, as well as jam or honey. You’ll find everything from Kosher meals to dishes with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences, as well as the international choices available in any major city. On the coast, fish is an excellent choice.
  • Jordanian cuisine resembles that of the rest of the Middle East. Olives, hummus, sesame seeds, and herbs are typical in many meals. Falafel is the main street food and many meals are served with rice. Hummus and salad are also popular and available at many restaurants. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to sip mint tea or Turkish coffee.
  • Egyptian cuisine uses the bountiful harvests of the Nile Valley—corn, eggplant, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, chickpeas, and citrus fruits are popular in many dishes. Don’t miss out on Egyptian interpretations of typical Mediterranean staples like baba ghanoush, falafel, and stuffed grape leaves. Tea is the national drink and is offered at breakfast, after lunch, and in most social situations.
  • Israel operates on 220 volts and historically uses a Type H plug, with three flat pins. As the Type H plug is being phased out, you will mostly encounter a new socket that fits both a newer, round-pinned version of the Type H plug as well as the European standard Type C plug with two round pins.
  • Jordan operates on 220 volts and uses Type C or G plugs with two round pins or three flat pins, respectively.
  • Egypt operates on 220 volts and uses Types C or F plugs with two round pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • The strength of the air conditioning in Middle Eastern hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • Israel and Jordan are two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is seven hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
  • Egypt is one hour ahead of GMT, which is six hours ahead of ET.
  • When it’s noon in New York, it’s 7pm in Israel and Jordan, and 6pm in Egypt.
  • You will use the Israeli new shekel in Israel, the Jordanian dinar in Jordan, and the Egyptian pound in Egypt.
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
  • You may find it useful to have a supply of U.S. currency in small denominations when bargaining for everything from taxi rides to souvenirs.
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
  • We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director, $1USD per person per day for the bus helper, and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
  • In Egypt, tipping is an important part of the local culture and you will be expected to tip for services including, but not limited to, taking photos in some areas or seeing additional exhibits. Travelers should carry small bills (in USD) for this purpose.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
  • Most optional excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour.
  • Your Tour Director will only accept cash (in USD only), Visa, or MasterCard as payment for excursions.
  • Please be advised that if you pay for an excursion by credit card while on tour, it may take up to three months for your card to be charged.
  • Some optional excursions may only be purchased in advance. See page four of your tour itinerary for more information.
  • As dictated by Egyptian Tourism Police, all foreign groups must be accompanied by an armed guard and/ or convoy.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, as pickpockets are active at most tourist sites. We recommend leaving your passport in the hotel safe, and concealing credit cards and cash in a money belt or a hidden pouch.
  • Bring photocopies of your passport, credit cards, and other important documents. Keep them separate from the originals.

Best of Holy Land Israel & Jordan and Egypt Tour with Nile Cruise - 17 Days

Overall it was a great experience. Minor hiccups like terrible hotel like Seanet and we had a blood sucking tour guide during the cruise on the river nile. All he wanted was to try to rush through the itenaries as quickly as possible and wanted us to do other optional tours so he can make more money. Some of the itenaries were missed because he said they were extras and we needed to pay for them. He even asked at the beginning of the cruise whether we were responsible to pay for the entry fees for the sites we were visiting. Not impressed with him. However, from tel aviv to Jordan to Cairo Egypt the guides were great and professional and courteous. Airport transfers and pick-ups were great. Overall it was a wonderful trip. No regret. Thank you!

Very nice trip with good coverage of most important and interesting places. Our guide AB is very knowledgeable in history and culture. We really enjoyed this trip.

Israel, Jordan and Petra 9-Day Adventure Tour

Israel, Jordan and Petra 9-Day Adventure

Excellent deal that afforded me the opportunity to observe more fascinating things than I imagined. Choosing the more, ahem, affordable option, I didn't upgrade to a private room. It was a tad uncomfortable at first, but I did get to meet a lot of cool, interesting people, which is quite the feat for somebody with introverted tendencies. Every guide was very well informed and friendly. Although I have a working knowledge of biblical history, they really fleshed out many of the stories within a geographical context, as well as a lot of the traditions that are in place today. Some of the sites we got to experience include the Dead Sea, Masada, the Old City of Jerusalem (including the Western Wall and the Temple Mount), Petra and Wadi Rum, and the West Bank. Navigating entry to both Jordan and Palestine, then back to Israel, would have been tricky had it not been for their expert assistance. If you only have one opportunity to visit this captivating land, then I highly recommend this tour.

Overall a good tour. Archaeological sites well covered. Too much time in Dead Sea area. Jordan tour bus had poor listening quality for the tour guide comments. Another day in Israel would have made a more complete tour.

It was a great tour packed with many different activities on the itinerary. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable on history, sites, recent media news ... we did learn a lot. For your consideration: the choice of meals to accommodate folks with allergies, diabetes or different diets would be appropriate A choice of snacks, fruits and vegetables at a local market would be appreciated at times for lunch as not everyone wants a big buffet or restaurant lunch.

the tour is organized well, all the customer service is excellent. Only thing I wish the tour should offer is the hotel upgrade option. The hotels during the trip are mediocre, I don't mind to pay extra for the upgrade. But the option is not offered. This could be a major concern to book future trip.

Just finished one of my beautiful memorable a week long journey through the hidden gem of Middle East Jordan with Trip500. Didnt know any other sight than Patra so each day there were surprises for me. Wadi e Rum, Karak, Citadel, Mount Nebu, Baptism Site other places from north to south .... I dont think much world knows about were great to visit n see. Moreover, middle in the areas of wars and conflicts, always the most peaceful and safe country to visit without any hesitation. From first day's airport pick up to last day's airport drop off, every aspect of the trip was perfectly managed. The guide (Maalik) provided to our group was simply amazing ... his trip planning, execution , time management , sight/history briefing etc were fantastic. Food was amazing ????? I highly recommend Trip500 for anyone looking to explore Jordan. Their expertise and attention to details for creating memorable journeys reflects through every aspect of their service.

What people love about Israel And Jordan Tours

My wife and I went on a 17-day tour of Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. The tour was well orchestrated. All the details of getting into and out of countries were handled professionally and with little cause of concern to us. Hand-offs between countries went well. We were guided by knowledgable people who had our best interests at heart (with possibly one exception). The only real complaint I have is that TourRadar turned out to be more of a facilitator than a tour agency with its own guides. I was confused when we got to Israel and found that neither TourRadar nor Click Tours (which answered my online questions) was the agency actually leading the tours. Not knowing that we would be connecting with Consolidated Tour Operators (CTO) led to some initial confusion in the Tel Aviv airport. Expecting to be linked up with Click Tours and knowing nothing about CTO, we missed connecting with the airport facilitator in Tel Aviv for nearly an hour while each of tried to find the other. If I had been told to look for a CTO representative, our stressful introduction to the tour would have gone much more smoothly. In Israel and Jordan, CTO handled our tour. In Egypt, the agency was Sylvia. I had expected to be part of a group that held together for the entire 17 days, but that wasn't the case. Groups formed and disbanded based on what individuals planned to visit. In Israel there were 11 of us, and we bonded quickly. In Jordan I was surprised that our group dwindled to five. And in Egypt there was only my wife and me. That left us vulnerable in Egypt to the care of our guide, who, because there was just the two of us, managed to fleece us of $150. I would never have signed up with TourRadar if I had understood that my wife and I would be left alone at one point without the safety of a group and unprepared to deal with a guide we didn't fully trust.
The tour part was fantastic and would recommend it for sure. Please drop the Sea Net from your list of Hotels. The rooms are ok but small. The real problem is with service and the meals. Not even a 1 star for breakfast. Bread out but no butter. No coffee just water and really watered down juice.
We explored parts of Israel and Jordan in early October 2023. The trip was coordinated by Tour Radar and Abraham Tours. We stayed at two Abraham Hostels on this tour ( one Tel Aviv and one in Jerusalem) as well as a Bedouin Camp in Jordan. The tours in Israel included Old CIty of Jaffa, Old Jerusalem, Masada and the Dead Sea. All amazing sites to see. We travelled into Jordan on the three day tour and saw/explored Mount Nebo, Petra and Wadi Rum. I can honestly say that all of the tours we did were some of the best i have ever done. The history and the scenery was spectacular. The food that was included/served was a little repetitive at the various places, however was pretty good (nobody got sick) and it would appear that Abraham Tours had sourced some of the cleanest/nicer places to eat. I would certainly condsider booking with Tour Radar/Abraham Tours in the future.
