Day in champagne region

This day trip was fantastic- because our driver David was fabulous, as was the tour itself. We really loved the first house we visited, as it was informative and the champagne was excellent. Our lunch was excellent at the Continental, which is extra special because we are gluten free and usually we experience difficulty in this regard. The second champagne house was not as great as the first, but it was good. The tour guide at the second house showed us how to sabre open a bottle, which was cool. Personally, I didn’t care for it as much. It was a great day in the countryside of France, to see its beauty and colour. Rheims cathedral was beautiful! The van was clean and comfortable for the drive. David our driver was FABULOUS! You couldn’t ask for a better driver, polite, friendly, informative, welcoming….he made our experience that much better. He definitely was attentive to us, and providing extra help to another client with special needs. You are fortunate to have an employee such as him.

Excellent tour day with amazing guide!

We did our tour on Sep 9 and visited two champagne houses. Thomas, our driver, was patient, kind and helpful. Virginie, our guide, was fantastic! She made sure we had a great time, and worked patiently around a bubbly group of enthusiastic friends. She kept us on schedule without pushing, making sure we experienced and learned what the beautiful region had to offer. She took care of every detail so we could just enjoy, I highly recommend the tour guy and their team. Thank you Virginie, for a wonderful time!

Virginie set the stage for the girls Paris getaway

The Tour Guy was not only extremely accommodating with the requests of 6 girls coming from different parts of the world and in addition to this the level of communication and professionalism was class A. Our tour coordinator/guide in Paris (Virginie) was kind, thoughtful and Professional. She helped the Group stay on schedule and the day was totally uneventful. Best way to spent my Bday with amazing friends while sipping champagne in one of the most beautiful sceneries in France. We as a group learned plenty about the process of Champagne making and walked away with valuable tips. Highly appreciated! Liza Ávila

Champagne Day Trip from Paris Details

Description - what's on in champagne.

Join us for this exceptional Champagne Day Tour from Paris, home of the world’s most celebrated sparkling wine! We selected for you the best places to visit in Champagne, from the biggest houses, to a boutique winery, so you can enjoy all day long. Your English-speaking guide will drive you through the beautiful vineyards, and give you plenty of anecdotes about the secrets of Champagne, a place where the uniqueness of the soils combines with the climate and the expertise of the winemakers to produce the famous drink, symbol of celebration and elegance for centuries across the world.

Morning – Champagne the glamourous

We will pick you up at your hotel or apartment in the morning, and offer you delicious and buttery freshly baked croissants, while driving to Champagne (about 1h30).

As soon as you arrive in the vineyards, you will be struck by the beauty of the landscape as you are given precious information about the history of the region, its most important characters and the process of Champagne production.

Your day will start in style, with a guided tour through the maze of cellars of one of the biggest bubble producers , such as Champagne Moët & Chandon , Mumm , Lanson , Mercier … (depending on availability). Learn about their unique history and production, tasting their flagship cuvee with the house sommelier.

Following a short drive, depending on our schedule, discover the village of Hautvillers and its abbey, where Dom Pérignon used to work as a cellar master over 300 years ago and made Champagne . Learn more about this legendary character and about his influence on the style and reputation of the drink. Stop by the wonderful vineyard of Champagne and enjoy a “wild tasting” conducted by your wine expert guide. Through this very unique experience and the tasting of a special cuvee, you will learn all the secrets of this famous bubbly drink.

Lunch – Traditional and authentic!

For lunch, settle at the table of a family-run winery or a traditional restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious Gourmet French lunch, paired perfectly with 3 different Champagnes.

Afternoon – Become a bubble expert

Last but not least, you will stop at a cooperative winery where they created a museum of the different tools used to produce Champagne… By the end of the day, you are guaranteed to be a bubbles expert! Of course, you will taste several Champagnes there.

After all these discoveries and emotions, your guide will bring you back to Paris and drop you in Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, at around 6PM (depending on traffic)

We took the Champagne tour and we’re beyond impressed with the experience. Our guide, Carlos, was very knowledgeable, kind, and safe on the roads. His expertise was much appreciated. We cannot recommend this tour enough. It is a must!

Elaine Levens

Words cannot express how wonderful our trip was. Our guide, Carlos, was great. He was well versed on the region and all the Champagne Houses we went to. We enjoyed touring three different houses as well as a surprise stop along the way. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone.

« We had an excellent day in the Champagne region of France thanks to My Winedays! Thomas, our guide, was knowledgeable and personable. Our visit to three Champagne houses gave us the opportunity to see a large, medium and small house. Our lunch at the smaller house was amazing! This was a great day! »

We had the best time with Carlos our tour guide who was so knowledgeable, friendly and added so much to the tour experience . We highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a day trip out of the city. The champagne tastings were incredible but the lunch was on another level !

We took a few tours while we were on our honeymoon in Europe and this was the best part of the trip hands down. The small group atmosphere was great and our guide Simone was amazing. The champagne we were able to try was amazing and the lunch provided was awesome as well. The only bad part of the trip was that it eventually had to end!

Visit the Champagne region for the day!

Explore the beautiful Champagne Region, located only 90 minutes outside of Paris on this small-group day trip. You'll see the town of Reims and visit its gorgeous, gothic, Cathedral where the French Kings of old were crowned. Then you'll explore the countryside around Epernay known as the capital of Champagne.

You'll walk in vineyards, meet a charming local winemaker, visit the prestigious Champagne House of Nicolas Feuillatte, pay your respects at the tomb of Dom Perignon, and taste at least 6 full glasses of different Champagnes!

Champagne is known for being the most festive, glamorous, and romantic of all wines. On this tour, you'll learn about all of the passion and hard work it takes to make Champagne and you'll come away with a better appreciation for this very unique wine.

Champagne Vineyards in the French Countryside

Reims Cathedral and the Local Winemaker

Take a small group day trip from Paris to the beautiful Champagne region of France! Meet your guide in Paris and enjoy a comfortable, 90-minute, drive out to the Champagne region. Our minibus has comfy leather seats and fresh air-conditioning so that you can enjoy the scenic drive through the French countryside.

The first stop on this tour will be the impressive, gothic, Cathedral of Reims. You'll hear the fascinating history behind the coronation traditions of the French Kings, and learn about some of the 2,000 statues on the Cathedral's facade. You'll also have free time to explore the serenity that is on the inside of this gothic masterpiece.

Then you'll be off to meet a highly regarded local vintner. All of our partners are at least 3rd generation winemakers of Champagne. The local winemaker will take you on an intimate tour of his/her property*. You'll discover all of the delicate details of making Champagne. You'll learn exactly what happens every step of the way from pressing the fresh cut grapes to corking the bottles. *Please note that on certain dates the winemaker might be too busy in the fields to meet us and in that case his/her child or an employee will meet you and share everything with you.

Champagne Tastings with explanations

Tasting Champagne and visiting Epernay

Once you understand how it is made, it will be time to let your taste buds do some learning. In a charming tasting room the vintner we'll introduce you to at least 3 different types of Champagne and pour them for you to taste. They will explain the particularities of a Blanc de Blanc and Rosé well as the differences between a Brut and a Demi-Sec, a Cuvée and a Vintage.

Then you're off to visit and eat in the beautiful town of Epernay. In the heart of the old town, you'll have a full hour of free time to explore the town and enjoy lunch. There are several great cafés, restaurants, and French bakeries available in Epernay. With suggestions from the guide we're sure you'll be able to find one that suits your budget and taste in food.

After lunch you'll visit a very prestigious house with one foot firmly planted in tradition and another in the modern world. The House of Nicolas Feuillatte is the #1 Brand of Champagne sold in France with more than 10 Million bottles being purchased and enjoyed annually. It will be quite a different experience when compared to the smaller winemaker's estate that was visited earlier in the day.

Dom Perignon and Nicolas Feuillate

In the House of Nicolas Feuillatte you'll walk among the giant oak barrels of fermenting wine and also see the state of the art machinery that helps bring their millions of bottles of Champagne to connoisseurs throughout the world. Then you'll be invited to taste 3 of their amazing Champagnes and appreciate their unique flavors.

On the drive back into Paris we'll make a special stop so that you can pay your respects to Dom Perignon, the father of Champagne. Friar Dom Perignon's grave is in a small hillside village with gorgeous views overlooking the Marne river and the vineyards around it. There your guide will explain the legend of the humble monk who perfected the Champagne making process.

By the end of this tour you will be able to share with your friends the many reasons why Champagne became the wine of romance, glamor, and celebration. You'll also appreciate all of the passion and effort that goes into producing each bottle. When the adventure is over you'll arrive back in Paris, between 6 and 6:30pm, at the same place when the tour met in the morning.

No refunds are given for ANY reason once within the 24 hrs prior to the scheduled tour. All of our tours run Rain or Shine. We do not issue refunds if you choose to skip your tour because the weather doesn’t suit you. You can always wait until the last minute to book your tour to ensure the weather suits you that day. BFT reserves the right to cancel any of its tours last minute in case of an Act of God or crazy act from a large group of people. Flooding, hail, dangerous weather conditions, riots, etc. In such instances full refunds will be given to anyone who had their tour cancelled.

II - Satisfaction Guarantee Policy

If the tour you took with us didn’t live up to what we promised you on our website and failed to meet your expectations, we will be heartbroken. We will also give you a 100% refund so long as you do all of these things: You remember that we we are in no way responsible for the weather and that our guides actually have to give 110% of themselves to you on days when the weather is not as nice in order to help you enjoy the tour. You participate in the entire tour from: being on time at the meeting point until the “goodbyes” at the very end of the tour. You can’t leave a tour half-way and ask for your money back. At the end of the tour you tell your guide, in person, that you were not satisfied with the tour you took. You provide your tour guide with the reasons you were not satisfied with the tour itself.

III - Payment Policy

A valid credit card is required to secure your booking. All reservations must be prepaid online prior to the tour. We accept Visa, Mastercard. None of your personal credit card or billing information is stored by BFT.

IV - Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Your personal informations will never be disclosed to any third parties.

V - Child Policy

All reservations made for children under the age of 18 years old must be made by an adult and we must be informed at the time of booking exactly how many children are in your party and their ages. This is vital information as it allows our guide to prepare the proper child sized equipments for the bike tours and the booster seats for all day trips/excursions that use one of our vans. All reservations made for a minor under the age of 18 years old must also include the reservation for an adult who will be 100% solely responsible for the safety and well being of the child while on the tour. Every child, under the age of 12 years old, partaking in a bicycle tour will be required to wear a helmet and a reflective vest as per French Law. The adult who accompanies the child agrees to the responsibility of choosing a properly sized helmet, adjusting the helmet, and keeping the helmet on the head of the child during the whole tour. Blue Fox Travel has helmets in multiple sizes for you to choose from at no cost. Don't forget: Children who will be riding in a baby/child seat, on a tandem attachment bike, or in a booster seat in one of our vans absolutely MUST have their seat reserved beforehand. We NEED to know exactly what your child will need before they show up. Please make it clear in the “Special Requirements” section of our booking form.

VI- Child Bike Policy

Children who will be riding on their own may be subject to a very short test run before the tour starts in which they will be expected to demonstrate: that they are well suited for their bike’s size and settings, that they know how to brake properly and that they are, in general, good cyclists who can be trusted to follow their tour guide in a safe manner. We own 20” and 24” kids bikes (size of the wheel). Adult bikes are 26”. If the guide, or manager, finds that the child is not, for any reason, a good enough cyclist then the guide, or manager, has the right to refuse to let the child follow the tour on a personal bike. This means they will either be asked to ride on one of our ‘tandem attachments’ which is attached to the back of a parents bike OR asked to ride in a child seat attached to the back of a parents bike. If the child refuses the change, then the guide or manager has the right to cancel the reservation, and not allow you and your child on the bike tour. Refunds will not be issued if your reservation is cancelled because of your child not being able to cycle and their refusal to ride attached to you. Baby seats are for kids that are between the ages of 1 and 3 years old (max weight 22 kg (48 lbs)). We also have some cool Burley™ tandem attachment bikes that are suitable for little kids who are too big for the baby seat but too small to cycle on their own (max weight 38 kg (85 lbs) - max height 137 cm (4 ft 6 in)).

VII - Damages to Blue Fox Travel Property

If you or anyone in your party damages a vehicle, a Blue Bike™, a vehicle, a child's bike, a helmet, a baby/child seat, a tandem attachment bike, any bike attachments, or a booster seat in such a way that it becomes badly disfigured, broken, or unusable, then BFT reserves the right to claim a fee of up to the cost of repair of the damaged bike/vehicle or object.

Tips for Booking the Best Tours to Champagne from Paris

I have been on many of the best tours to Champagne from Paris and I just want to share some advice before booking your trip.

This way you can have the best time possible and won’t have unrealistic expectations.

  • PLEASE book your tour well in advance if this is something you really want to do . Because for many wine lovers, the best Paris Champagne tours are a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So, spots fill up fast and you need to book early, especially in the summer.
  • The Best tours of Champagne from Paris will NOT be cheap . Yeah, Champagne is very high-quality (read expensive) and so, many of these tours reflect that fact. So, expect to spend $300+ per person if you want to do a tour like this.
  • SPLURGE on a top-notch tour. Honestly, I am pretty conservative with my spending. So, upwards of $300 for a tour is VERY steep for me. However, I truly feel that in this instance, the higher price is justified. So, treat yo self if you adore wine like me, and book a luxe tour.
  • It takes about 1.5 hours to drive to Champagne . So, plan on spending a minimum of three hours in the car (or train) if you book this tour.
  • Given the high price of the tours and the wines offered, refunds are generally not offered if you cancel the tour last minute. So, please please solidify your plans before you book a tour from Paris to Champagne so that you DON’T lose your hard-earned $$$.

My #1 pick 🏆 for the best tour to Champagne 🥂 from Paris is this Day Trip to Champagne that includes 8 tastings and a full lunch . It’s well-priced, all-inclusive, and led by a real expert, so well worth the money 💰 you spend.

Private Tours to Champagne From Paris

1. champagne region private day trip from paris.

Now, here’s an interesting tour to mull over.

After all, this Champagne Region Private Day Trip from Paris is easily one of the most budget-friendly private Champagne tours near Paris. And I dunno about you but I am all about saving those $$$.

Anyway, the price per head is crazy cheap for a private tour to Champagne from Paris if you can fill those seats.

Although, you need to note that the price of the tour does not include any Champagne tastings – which I personally think is ridiculous for a Champagne tour but I digress.

Therefore, you’re just paying for the private transport and expert guide service.

As with the previous private tours, you’ll visit one famous Champagne house plus a smaller producer near Reims and Épernay.

“We visited a small champagne house first before proceeding to Moet and Chandon. Phillipe the tour organiser was very gracious and is the one who suggested the small champagne house as well a restaurant for lunch. Being from the region, he knew everything and advised us what to do and what to see. He even took us by the church where Dom Perignon was a monk as a bonus! The car was a six seater Mercedes and very comfortable. I highly recommend champagne tours with Phillipe.” Jem ( read more reviews now )

While there, you’ll enjoy a tour of the cellars that might be shared with other tourists – particularly at the big estate. And, it’s up to you whether you pay for a tasting.

I personally would since I feel like that is kind of the whole point of one of the best tours of Champagne from Paris but that is just me.

So, this tour is perfect for groups where not everyone drinks. Seeing as the landscape is divine and the excursion is really informative, it’s still an epic day out.

Ultimately, this setup could totally work for families or groups with non-drinkers.

2. First-class Champagne VIP Day Trip from Paris with Wine Expert Guide

Therefore, if you’re fantasizing about running off to open your own winery, make sure you jot down any insider tips that your expert local guide throws your way.

Note, this tour actually starts with a train ride. However, you’re in luck because the tickets are first-class.

So, after boarding the train at Gare de L’est station, you’ll speed toward Champagne Ardenne. Once in this bucolic region, you’ll swap your train for a van.

“Michele was an incredible host and guide. Not only did we have a truly memorable time but we learned a lot, met some fantastic people, had a lovely lunch, bought a lot of champagne, and snagged some amazing restaurant recommendations to round out our trip. Will absolutely recommend Michele to friends and family.” Megan ( read more reviews now )

Now, one of your major destinations will be a household producer. Such as, Pommery or Veuve Clicquot House.

However, you’ll also visit one or two artisanal Champagne lodges and tour their cellars to get a more intimate experience.

At each, you’ll swig deliciously chilled sparkling wines and Champagnes. At the same time, your guide – an industry expert – will charm you with history, trivia, and anecdotes about this amazing part of France.

A mooch around the Reims Cathedral and a gourmet lunch in town round out this perfect day and make this a top pick for one of the best tours to Champagne from Paris.

Finally, one of the best Champagne tours Paris has to offer concludes with a stroll through the vineyards that will help you digest all that glorious food.

Oh, and either on the drive out or on the drive home, you’ll stop off to stroll down the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay.

Therefore, take a look at the ludicrously lush Champagne region with this Visit to Épernay and Multiple Champagne Tastings in a Vineyard tour .

With this experience, you’ll get picked up from any hotel in central Paris. Then, during the drive, your expert guide will give you the lowdown on the history of Champagne production.

Once in Épernay, you’ll go for a prowl around a major Champagne house – most likely, Dom Pérignon.

“ This was such a fun day trip. Our guide Batiste was very knowledgeable and able to answer every question we had. We did one small champagne house, a large commercial one and finished up the tour with a bottle of champagne in a vineyard. It was really interesting to see the differences in how each one produces champagne.” Caroline ( read more reviews now )

Next, you’ll visit a boutique estate where over 80 farmers work day in, day out to make sparkling wines for special occasions and that you will personally love drinking (Keep the Dom, this one is epic).

“We were picked up right on time as schedule a day ahead. The van was comfortable and spacious. Dalton our guide for the day was so nice, knowledgeable, polite, and fun. Although, as with all wine tours from Paris, they’ll need to fill enough seats in the van to proceed with the tour.

However, the group size is limited to just eight people for a more intimate experience. And your first stop will be one of the big ones.

“Our tour guide , Karl was amazingly nice and knowledgeable. He was also extremely accommodating to everyone’s needs. The cellars were wonderful. FYI, it’ll be either Moët & Chandon, Mumm, Veuve Clicquot, Mercier, Pommery, or Lanson where you’ll receive your tasting and tour.

“Amazing day in the French countryside – highly recommend. We learnt so much about Champagne – both the region and the product. Our tour guide was Thomas and he was superb! Very knowledgable, warm and friendly, he taught us so much and answered all of our questions. On the day we were taken to Veuve Clicquot, a delicious lunch experience and a smaller house – everything was perfect. My only feedback would be to explore adding speakers to the back row of the van to ensure those in the back seats can hear well as there were a few things we couldn’t hear.” Rachael ( read more reviews now )

Over at the smaller estate, you’ll learn the art of “à la volée”. But, you’ll need to book this tour to figure out what that actually means (I guess you could Google it but where’s the fun in that?).

“Cannot recommend this excursion highly enough! The trip included a visit to Reims’ Notre Dame Cathedral-which was a great alternative to being able to tour the one in Paris. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging & she made the trip incredibly fun! We toured a small champagne house in Epernay (Delaunois-Chanel) with the owner and later a large tasting house (Nicolas Feuillatte). We also visited the Abbey where Dom Perignon is buried. Because this Champagne Tour from Paris with Reims Cellars includes just one cellar visit. And, that’s where you’ll enjoy your guided tasting experience.

Actually, this is the best tour if you’re super sensitive to alcohol and would rather not risk a hangover.

Plus, lunch isn’t included in the base rate. Therefore, the price comes out lower than all of the other day tours of Champagne from Paris.

However, it’s a rad choice if you’re more excited about seeing the countryside and gaining a wider perspective on Champagne history and culture.

Best Champagne Tours in Paris

11. french wine and champagne tasting in paris.

A woman with brown hair and a man both holding glasses of Champagne and holding them together as the sun sets and you see the Eiffel Tower in the background.

⭐️ Rating: 5.0/5.0 (380 Reviews) Price: $76.80 per person Duration: 2 hours 📍 Meeting Point: Ô Chateau, 68 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 75001, Paris Details: Read more on Viator Now!

Okay but what if you don’t have time during your 24 hours in Paris to devote a whole day of gallivanting around the Champagne region?

In that case, the next best thing is to book one of the most exclusive Champagne tours in Paris. Now, this French Wine and Champagne Tasting in Paris gives you a couple of options.

However, my fave is the wine and Champagne masterclass served with either cheese, charcuterie, or both. Or, you can save some pennies with the food-free option.

And since I adore food, I am 100% not a fan of that idea. After all, this is France and really you should take any opportunity to gorge on le fromage while you can.

“Our Sommelier was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and a fun host! We enjoyed hearing about the different regions in France and the wines produced there. All of the wines we tried were delicious. I highly recommend doing this if you have time while you are in Paris.” Alyson ( read more reviews now )

Essentially, the class takes place in an atmospheric wine cellar beneath some of the most famous streets in Paris .

There, you’ll sip on six divine wines from regions like Bordeaux, Sancerre, and –obviously – Champagne. You’ll also learn all about these incredible vinos from your sommelier.

Pro Tip: Book this masterclass before your day trip to the Champagne region. That way, you can deepen your knowledge of this ritzy tipple AND other wines of France before your trip.

Because, we’re all in favor of education, right?

12. Champagne Tasting on a Seine River Cruise in Paris

A tourist boat cruising along the Seine in the evening during one of the best champagne tours in Paris.

⭐️ Rating: 4.5/5.0 (414 Reviews) Price: $76.80 per person Duration: 1 hour 📍 Meeting Point: Vedettes de Paris, Port de Suffren, 75007, Paris Operator: O Chateau Details: Read more on Viator Now!

We’re rounding off this list with one final Champagne tour in Paris and you’ll need your sea legs for this one.

Well, okay, your river legs since this Champagne Tasting on a Seine River Cruise lasts an hour and takes you on the Seine River as the name suggests.

Led by an expert sommelier, you’ll sample three different Champagnes as your luxurious boat floats past the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Grand Palais, and the Musée d’Orsay.

Plus, it takes place just before dusk or at night, depending on the season. Therefore, you’ll get to see Paris in the soft evening light or illuminated all around you.

Then, after one of the best champagne tours in Paris, you can grab dinner at a place specifically recommended to you by your expert, local guide.

Note, the vessel is a small river barge – not a giant ferry. This means that you’ll enjoy a nice, cozy vibe while onboard that is perfectly suited for asking questions and mingling with other travelers.

And, remember, if you like what you taste then you can pick up a bottle of Champers to take back to your hotel as an epic Paris souvenir . Ooh la la!

And again, you’ll strike gold if you book the Champagne cruise in addition to a full-day excursion.

While you can head to Champagne country independently, I think it is such an endeavor if you have limited time in Paris. And, if you’re not a French speaker, you may run into a bit of a language barrier once outside of Paris and in the countryside.

Type of Tour: Small Group Duration: 10-11 hours Meeting Point: Your hotel in Central Paris Language: Spanish, English, French, Italian 🥂 CLICK HERE TO BOOK

What an epic day this was! I booked this tour a little last minute (fortunately, they had space available – but don’t take your chances!) and was so happy that I ended up with the coolest guide and the best group .

My amazing group on the tour

The tour picked me up from my hotel in Central Paris and we headed off to Champagne country in a very modern mini-van. My group consisted of me and 5 other American women and we instantly connected for an incredible day of Champagne and food!

This is a 10-11 hour tour and you will start your day by heading to Epernay , where you will get to cruise along the internationally famous Avenue de Champagne.

Cruising down Avenue de Champagne

From there, you will be taken to a large Champagne house in Epernay (you will not know which one until the day you arrive – but some of the ones they frequently go to are Moët & Chandon, Mumm, Veuve Clicquot, etc) where you will get a tour of the cellar and learn more about the production and history of Champagne.

My tour took us to Boizel and we had a chance to tour the beautiful facility before sitting down to sample their Brut Reserve and Grand Vintage 2012. You can purchase a bottle to take with you at the end of this part of the tour.

One of the many things we were served for lunch!

From there, you will drive to Cramant, where you will see a viewpoint that overlooks the countryside and vineyards and learn a bit more about the region from the guide.

At this viewpoint, you will get a small surprise! My guide was originally from Italy and his enthusiasm was so contagious that we all loved every minute of the tour!

From there, we headed to lunch and for some more Champagne at a smaller house called Voirin-Jumel. The lunch was incredible and more food than we imagined!

We finished the day at Jean Milan Champagne house where we took a tour of their ‘museum’ and then sampled even more bubbly. I purchased a bottle of Champagne to take home with me and drink with Aram the next time I saw him!

Jean Milan Champagne house

This tour isn’t suitable for wheelchair users and please notify My Winedays (the tour company) of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. My Champagne tour with them was one of the best tours I have ever taken and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

2. Private Champagne Tour with 8 Tastings & Lunch (Same as Above!)

Type of Tour: Private Duration: 10-11 hours Meeting Point: Your hotel in Central Paris Language: Spanish, English, French, Italian 🥂 CLICK HERE TO BOOK

This tour is the exact trip I took above – but it is the best private Champagne tour from Paris (and not a small-group like what I went on).

Your day will start at around 7:30am and you will jet off to beautiful Champagne country in a mini-van with a knowledgeable guide and your private group .

Booking a private Champagne tour from Paris allows you to have more freedom!

You will check out Epernay’s Avenue de Champagne before settling in at a Champagne house to explore the cellar, enjoy a tasting, and learn more about the region.

The Champagne house you will visit will be determined the day you head out depending on availability, but it will be a larger one.

Enjoying a tasting at Boizel

If you have a specific request for a Champagne house you’re particularly keen to visit – let My Winedays know ahead of time and they will try to arrange it!

BOOK HERE: Private Champagne tour w/ 8 tastings (and lunch)

After this tour and tasting, you will head to a viewpoint before having a delicious lunch… and more Champagne! The day wraps up at a smaller-scale Champagne house where you will get a little masterclass before tasting some of their portfolio.

While I loved my group tour, this option is a fantastic one if you’re traveling with a small group of your own! It also allows you a bit more freedom in the day.

3. Prestige Champagne Tour and Tasting (with a Michelin Star Lunch!)

Type of Tour: Private Duration: 11 hours Meeting Point: 1 Place Saint-Michel (at a cafe called Le Départ Saint-Michel) Language: Spanish, English, French 🥂 CLICK HERE TO BOOK

When I said that my next Champagne tour would be a private one, I actually think it will be this private Prestige one . It is the best luxury Champagne tour from Paris!

Operated by My Winedays (the same company I went on my trip with), you will get a chance to visit a Prestige Champagne producer AND have a 3-course lunch in a Michelin-star restaurant before also checking out a boutique winery producer.

Around Epernay

This day starts off with pickup from your hotel (where you will also be dropped off). You’ll be transported to Champagne country in a private black car or luxury minivan where you’ll be greeted by an expert guide and a freshly baked croissant.

Once in the Champagne region, you get a chance to visit a world-famous Champagne house and do a tasting after exploring their cellars and learning about the history of the place.

A full-on gastro experience

Lunchtime will be a 3-course meal in a Michelin-star restaurant where you’ll also get to enjoy a wine pairing alongside the food. The day will finish by visiting a boutique winery with another tasting .

If there is a specific Champagne house you would like to visit, notify My Winedays upon booking and they will see what the availability is like during the time of your trip!

4. Champagne Tour from Paris with 6 Tastings (Cheapest Option!)

Type of Tour: Small Group Duration: 11 hours Meeting Point: 1 Place Saint-Michel (at a cafe called Le Départ Saint-Michel) Language: English 🥂 CLICK HERE TO BOOK

This small-group Champagne tasting trip from Paris is a great option for those on a budget. This is the cheapest Paris Champagne trip on this guide and the excursion will last for 11 hours!

You will meet at a cafe called Le Départ Saint-Michel in the morning before setting off on your tour ! Either in the morning (or later in the day) you will visit Reims , the unofficial capital of Champagne country.

You also get to see the Reims Cathedral

You will spend a little bit of time seeing the Reims Cathedral of Notre Dame where the kings of France were once crowned.

Some other highlights of your day tour to Champagne from Paris include visiting the chapel at Abbey at Hautvillers (where Dom Pérignon is buried), a guided tour of Nicolas Feuillatte (the world’s largest Champagne producer) as well as a tasting, and a tasting at a family-run winery.

Champagne day trip from Paris

This is a fantastic option for an affordably luxurious trip to Champagne country!

5. Moët & Chandon Champagne Tour (2 Options!)

One thing to note about these Champagne tours in Paris is that you may not get to visit the Champagne house you’d like.

To be honest, I had known about (and previously tried!) Boziel, the house I visited on my last trip.

Dom Perignon - Moet & Chandon wine cellars

If you are super stoked about visiting Moët & Chandon , there are two tour options that will take you there. One is a private, luxury tour and the other is a small group trip .

These are good tours, but I definitely think you can get the same experience by visiting one of the large houses one of the tours above will take you to. And, they sometimes do visit Moët & Chandon, so you may end up there anyway!

Nevertheless, you can book a tour from Paris to Moët & Chandon here:

  • Private tour to Moët & Chandon
  • Small group tour to Moët & Chandon (max 15 people)

The Champagne region of France, now known as Grand Est since 2016, is a historic region in the northeast of France that is known for the beverage of the same name, Champagne.

This bubbly white wine is recognized all over the world and has become synonymous with celebrations and events and luxury. Not to mention, it is one of the best places to visit in France .

Tasting at Boizel after a cellar tour

The grapes that are most commonly grown in the Champagne region are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. These grapes dominate certain areas of the region itself.

France’s Champagne region is broken up into five distinct wine-producing regions and they are Aube, Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne. The two main commercial centers are Épernay and Reims.

There are a variety of Champagne tours you can take in the region but not all leave from Paris, which is what we focused on in this guide!

When is the best season for a Champagne tour and tasting in Paris?

Visiting the Champagne region of France can be done at any time! Even if you’re visiting Paris in winter  and are looking for a memorable day trip.

The only time of the year that I would avoid would be during the harvest as the Champagne houses have a lot of work to do and it could impact tours and tastings slightly.

February in the Champagne region

The harvest period varies based on the season’s weather but it can range from mid-August to September typically.

I went on both of my France Champagne tours in February and it was a great time to be there because there were fewer crowds.

What do you wear on a Champagne tour?

To be honest, I wore different things on both of my trips. On my first Champagne tour, I wore the exact same outfit that I am wearing in this other Paris photo (complete with vegan Dr. Martens !).

I felt comfortable among the other people on the tour and was dressed appropriately for the unusually warm February .

what to wear to a champagne tour from paris

On my second Champagne tour from Paris, I wore a sweater and leggings with sneakers (I had a torn ACL in my knee). The rest of the people on my tour were dressed somewhat laid back, too.

Granted, we were all American women so we tend to be more casual anyway, but I felt totally fine! Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing a bit of walking around the cellars.

Speaking of being in Champagne cellars… they keep a constant temperature and can be cold all year round , including the summers (11C / 51F)! Bring yourself a sweater or jacket even during the summer months!

Champagne cellars are NOT warm!

Paris to Champagne Tour Tips & Tricks

One thing I regret not doing before my first tour to the Champagne region was to educate myself. Sure, that is what the tour is supposed to do, but I wish that my knowledge was a little better than it was (my second trip was far better though).

Here are some tips I can give for your day on a Champagne tour from Paris (or elsewhere) that will help prepare and educate you for the trip:

Learn the history of the region. I really can’t stress this enough. The 20th-century World Wars actually had a major impact on the region and on the beverage.

Diving into the history of Champagne and the region

The Champagne houses didn’t really speak much about this, but when my group asked, they gave some insight and it was more fascinating than I could have imagined. Many of the cellars housed families during the wars!

This book will help you learn a little bit more about the history of Champagne and the region as a whole.

Learn a little bit about Champagne. Obviously, you want to learn more on the tour itself, but it helps to not be as dumb as I was on my tour because it left me too embarrassed to ask the questions I wanted to ask and I went searching for them on Google later.

This book is a good starting point for learning more about the world-famous beverage!

Can you visit any Champagne houses independently?

Yes! You can visit almost every Champagne house without an organized tour from Paris!

We partner with Rue des Vignerons , a company specializing in direct partnerships with wineries and Champagne houses in France that helps you book individual tickets and tours!

Here are some of the top Champagne houses that you can visit and how to book your experience at them:

  • Veuve Clicquot
  • Moet & Chandon

Accessibility at Champagne Houses (Wheelchair-Friendly Wineries)

If you are in a wheelchair or are visiting Paris with someone who has mobility issues, you can still take a Champagne tour, but it might be a bit more challenging.

While many of the large Champagne houses have disabled access, getting there on a tour from Paris can create a little bit of an issue.

Elevator to the cellar in Boizel

I would highly recommend having someone in your group rent a car and visit the houses independently to ensure a good trip for all! I think your best bet is to head to Epernay where some of the larger houses are (and so many are accessible).

The following Champagne houses have wheelchair-friendly facilities:

If you are looking to save a little bit of money and are traveling with someone with mobility issues, I would recommend getting to Reims with public transportation from Paris and then taking a taxi to Lanson .

Lanson Champagne House in Reims (2019 trip)

Lanson is in the city of Reims and has beautiful facilities; I visited it in 2019.

I have stayed at so many places around Paris and have fallen into various ‘budget’ categories on my trips!

While we recommend a weekend in Champagne , if you’re merely there for a day trip and staying in Paris, here are some options.

  • Ibis Hotel in Clichy (Budget – I stayed here and recommend it)

The 9 Best Champagne Tours from Paris for a Perfect Day Trip

Whether it’s a romantic getaway for two or a solo adventure, no France vacation is complete without visiting Paris.

That said, you could spend a lifetime soaking up the beauty of France, from the beaches of Normandy to the French Riviera.

But if you’re a wine lover – or just a lover of the finer things in life in general – one thing you have to do is take a Champagne tour from Paris to try the region’s unforgettable wines.

Yes, Paris is located less than two hours away from the Champagne region of France, making a Champagne tour the perfect way to add a little sparkle to your trip.

Blurry bokeh of vineyards in the foreground with church tower and medieval-style architecture of charming French villages in the landscape

The combination of the perfect climate and fertile, rich terroir makes Champagne the king of France’s sparkling wine – and sparkling wine around the world, in fact.

Visit the Champagne region to see why only wines here produced in the traditional Méthode Champenoise , within the Champagne DOC can be called true Champagne – everything else is just sparkling wine!

But while Champagne enjoys a big name around the world, it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, it’s an agricultural product, a labor of love.

Taking a Champagne tour from Paris will help demystify this elegant drink and show you how it goes from grape to bottle.

These Champagne winemakers dedicate their lives to making sure their product is superior to everything else on the market – after all, they’ve got a big name to defend.

France isn’t synonymous with wine, cheese, and the good life for nothing. Take a day to travel from Paris to Champagne and taste some of the best wine on Earth!

7 Tips for a Day Trip to Champagne from Paris

tour to champagne from paris

Champagne is synonymous with France. After all, the bubbly glasses of goodness originated in northern France and only sparkling wine from that region can bear the prestigious title of “Champagne.” Visiting the home of one of the most famous drinks in the world was at the top of my life long list of dreams, so on our last day in Paris—and the final day of our trip to Spain and France — we took a day trip to Champagne from Paris.

Tasting a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne in Reims, France.

I had visions of sipping fizzy Champagne all day and wandering around the historical region without a care in the world, but the reality was much different. We didn’t realize the region was divided into two cities (and arrived in one when we had a tour scheduled in another), among other bumps in the road. So learn from our mistakes!

Glasses of Moët & Chandon Champagne at Moët & Chandon Champagne House in Epernay, France.

1. The Champagne region is about an hour’s train ride from Paris.

The easiest way to Champagne from Paris is to take the high speed TGV train . The region’s two major centers are Reims and Épernay (more on that below) and the train stops in Reims (45 minutes away, about 15€) or Épernay (75 minutes, about 22€). Trains run back and forth all day and tickets can be purchased at the station before boarding or in advance online here .

2. Champagne is made up of 5 small areas, but stick to Reims and/or Épernay.

All five regions of Champagne produce sparkling wine, but the towns of Reims and Épernay are the centers of the area. A note of caution: Reims and Épernay are not that close together! We made the mistake of taking a cab from Reims to Epernay and it cost us around 100€!

If you want to see both regions, jump back on the train. It’s an inexpensive 9€ and is much quicker (about a half hour on the TGV high speed train ) than taking a cab or the bus.

A row of Veuve Clicquot Champagne glasses at Veuve Clicquot in Champagne, France.

3. Épernay is like Sonoma while Reims is like Napa.

After our 100€ cab ride to Épernay to tour the Moët & Chandon caves, we made the best of being in the other city and visited a smaller Champagne House (what the wineries are called), called Georges Cartier . Georges Cartier is a smaller winery that doesn’t export to the United States so we’d never get to taste it stateside. We got one-on-one attention and a private tasting of their entire line of Champagnes.

We wandered around Épernay for the rest of the morning (yes, our Moët & Chandon tour was at 9:45 a.m.) and enjoyed the peaceful, small town. It felt a lot like Sonoma. When we finally explored the much larger, more touristy Reims (where we toured Veuve Clicquot ), it reminded both of us of the more touristy Napa. That’s not good or bad, just worth mentioning for those who have been to California’s wine region and have a strong preference for one side over the other.  But…

The caves aging thousands of bottles of Moët & Chandon Champagne in Reims, France.

4. Wine tasting in Champagne isn’t like it is in California.

If you’ve been wine tasting in California, you know that wineries welcome visitors to drink, relax and oftentimes eat. In Champagne, most wineries obviously want visitors and they want you to try their wines, but none of the houses we visited offered any food (which can become a problem after drinking Champagne all day!) and often shuffled us to move on after our tours. In Napa and Sonoma, I felt like I could spend all day relaxing at the wineries but in Champagne I felt like they wanted me to buy a bottle and move on.

Another major difference: Champagne is aged in underground caves so most of the tours take visitors underground to natural vaults created by chalk and/or limestone quarries, some dug out during the Roman times. It’s incredibly impressive. But keep that in mind when deciding your attire because the caves can get chilly!

5. Research what Champagne Houses you want to visit beforehand.

There are a ton of Champagne Houses in the region, so have an idea which ones you want to visit before you go.  This will help decide if to go Reims, Épernay or both. Épernay is home to Mercier, Moët & Chandon (open since 1743!) who also owns Dom Pérignon; while Reims hosts Veuve Clicquot (1772), Mumm (1827) and Tattinger (1734). Wikipedia has a helpful list of houses here or Reims Tourism lists houses . Reservations can be made at most Champagne houses online beforehand.

Bonus tip: With good food comes good wine. In the case of Champagne, it’s the opposite: with good wine, comes good food.  Champagne is home to a dozen Michelin-rated restaurants, so make reservations for those before heading there, too.

6. The region has an incredible past so don’t forget to indulge in history, too.

Because of its geographical position between many different countries, the region has seen a lot of history, particularly in the form of war. The Romans defeated the Huns in Champagne in 451 A.D., many battles of the Hundred Years’ War took place there, and it was bombed repeatedly during both World Wars. In fact, the caves of Veuve Clicquot were once used as a hospital during World War I and the remnants of a hospital cross are still visible on the cave walls. And Reims is actually the place where Eisenhower and the Allies received the German surrender on May 7, 1945.

Reims is also home to the Notre Dame de Rems Cathedral, where the coronation of every French king has taken place, and the Abbey of Saint Remi, the largest Romanesque pilgrimage church in northern France.

7.  Consider taking a guided tour.

We managed to visit the Champagne region on our own, doing a lot of research beforehand. We pulled it off, but not without some hiccups (like the 100€ cab ride). At the end of the day when we were exhausted from getting lost, we wished we would have signed up with a guided tour.

There are plenty online and I’m sure they are all much easier and less stressful than doing it on your own! This Champagne tour and this day trip are the closest to what we did, visiting both Reims and Épernay. Or this one is just Reims while this tour is just Épernay (including Moët & Chandon).

Champagne is such a contrast from Paris.  It’s definitely worth dedicating a day to explore the countryside and taste France’s most famous drink.  While parts of our day trip to Champagne was hectic, it was a sparkling end to an amazing trip through Spain and France .

Can you please post the link for the correct train from Paris? I tried to click it and it didn’t work. Thanks!

Hi Kelli- Thank you for posting this. Very helpful! Question: You mentioned a lot of walking. Is it customary to dress up at the Champagne Houses like it is in Napa/Sonoma? What would you recommend wearing?

' src=

Hi Brooke – thanks for reading and mentioning the broken link. It’s been fixed! As for wardrobe, that’s a tough call. I don’t think you need to dress up, but nothing too casual or sloppy. Wear shoes you can walk on cobblestone and stone (possibly damp) stairs, and remember the caves might be a little chilly.

Cheers, Kelli

Hi Kelli! My husband and I are planning to take the train from Paris to Reims. We’re planning to take taxis from the train station, to champagne houses. From champagne house to champagne house do you think it will be difficult to hail a taxi? Or are there taxis located at each champagne house?

Hi Jordan – thanks for reading. I can’t say for certain. When I was there, taxis were not readily available. It may be best to reach out to the Champagne houses to ask them if they have taxi stands nearby or can call a taxi for you.

' src=

Hi Kelli, thanks for sharing your experience. To get from the Champagne Houses, was it easy to hail a taxi or transportation? I’m concerned about transformation if my family does a DIY day trip from Paris, versus a tour.

I recommend a guided tour. The taxi from Paris was over 100€. The train was much cheaper, but navigating the bus and public transit once you’re in the Champagne region might be tricky.

' src=

Hi there! I found this so helpful but I had a question. I’m going on my honeymoon in September and wanted to visit multiple places and buy extra bottles at each. Is it possible to bring a wine luggage bag from place to place during tours? Thanks!

' src=

Hi Kelli! I enjoyed reading this blog. I’m flying to Paris this June and I hope to take a day trip to the Champagne Region. You just inspired me to go to Epernay to visit the Moet and Chandon Cellars. One small question though, if I took the train to Epernay, what would be the best way to commute to Moet and Chandon? And anywhere there?

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for reading my blog. I think you’d be fine to take a cab from the train station to Moet & Chandon or it might even be possible to walk. I don’t remember exactly, so I don’t want to tell you for certain, but I think we walked there from the train. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help! Have fun and let me know how it goes! Cheers, Kelli

' src=

Very helpful post. I’ll be there end of June and can’t decide if we should take the train and cabs to the Champagne Houses or take a tour. I really want to go to both Moet and Veuve but I’m having trouble finding a tour that goes to both so may have to train it and hope for the best! Did you find the trains easy to navigate? If you know of any tours that do both, please let me know!

Hi Liz, Thanks for reading! The trains were pretty easy to navigate, but I’d recommend giving yourself some extra time in case you can’t find the platform or anything like that. I don’t know of any tours that do both. If you find any, please let me know! Thank you and have fun! – Kelli

' src=

Thanks Kelli, Enjoyed your blog, I would like to do a tour of the trip but, it is expensive, so we are going to do it the hard way, on our own. We will be in Paris in a few weeks, and staying in the 4th arrondissment, what are other places worth exploring outside of paris apart from the usual tourist places in Paris. Appreciate your tips. Thanking you

Thank you! Other than Champagne, we went to the Palace of Versailles, a little outside of Paris. It was extremely touristy and very crowded, so it wasn’t my favorite place but I’m glad I experienced it. Other than that, I didn’t venture too far from Paris, although I wish I had. Sorry I can’t be of more help! If you discover somewhere interesting, I’d love to hear about it! Cheers and safe travels! – Kelli

' src=

Excellent, thanks for the tips and comparisons to Napa/Sonoma. This helps a lot for an upcoming trip!

' src=

Thanks for all the tips! Looking forward to going NEXT MONTH and doing all my research now XO

' src=

Hi, Loved this post, it has been super helpful for planning my trip to Reims/Epernay. I was wondering how much it cost to tour the different champagne houses? Also do you have any restaurant recommendations for lunch while there?

Thanks for reading! The tours vary by location, but they aren’t very expensive. For example, Moet & Chandon was around 30€. (Here’s how to request a tour and more info: http://us.moet.com/Visit-us/Visit-our-cellars ). As for eating, I know there are a lot of great restaurants in the region (including Michelin-rated places) but I didn’t eat anywhere worth noting so I personally can’t recommend any. Sorry! Enjoy France!!

' src=

Hi Kelly, Thanks for the great post! If we took the train to Reims, are the tasting houses along the streets like in Napa? We won’t have a lot of time to take cabs out to vineyards if they are far from the train station. Is there enough to do walking around town? Or do you reccomend traveling out of town? Trying to picture what it’s like. Thanks so much! Always enjoy reading your posts:) -Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, We walked around in Reims and found stuff to do, but everything isn’t as close as I would have liked. It’s a cute little town though, so you should be entertained there. Have fun! – Kelli

Where is the Champagne Region?

The Champagne is a wine region in the East of France. The distance between Paris and the Champagne Region is around 140 km/90 miles, and the Region borders Belgium in the north .

The short distance between the two locations makes day trips to Champagne from Paris one of the best getaways from Paris. From Paris to Reims, it’s just a 40 min. train ride.

Reims and Épernay are the two commercial centers of the Champagne, and also the cities where most Champagne producers have their headquarters.

The Champagne-Ardenne, that’s the official name of the Champagne Region, was an independent administrative region of France. In 2016, it got merged with the neighboring regions Alsace and Lorraine to form the new region Grand Est.

Paris to Champagne - how to get from paris to champagne? The best is taking a train paris to champagne

That being said, the Champagne is a fairly large region.

But to visit the Champagne houses, vineyards, and cellars, you should head to Reims .

Reims is the biggest city in the region and the center of Champagne productions. Most big Champagne houses – Les Grandes Marques – have their headquarters and visitor center there.

Then there is also Épernay . It’s a small town 40 minutes from Reims, but nevertheless the second most important Champagne city.

The most famous Dom Perignon brand has its headquarters and visitor’s center in Éparnay.

Reims or Éparnay – What’s The Best For Your Paris Champagne Tour?

Book this tour to visit Reims & Éparnay and enjoy 6 Champagne tastings

Reims and Éparnay are the two global headquarters of Champagne production. Both are worth a visit for a full experience. However, Reims is easier to get to from Paris. So I recommend that if you plan your tour on your own, you focus on visiting Reims.

If you want to include both destinations, you best book a tour from Paris that includes both destinations. This Champagne tour is the best pick for a full experience of Reims and Éparnay.

If you drive the distance yourself by car or visit by train, you will easily feel rushed. Visiting both, Éparnay and Reims by train in one day is not really feasible.

Champagne day trip from Paris - one thing you will quickly learn is that only grapes growing in the region can be used for Champagne

Why You Should Visit the Champagne Region from Paris

The first reason to visit the Champagne region is obviously to taste Champagne . Because even though it’s fairly common to refer to all sorts of sparkling wine as Champagne, it’s fundamentally wrong.

Only sparkling wine that comes from the Champagne region, made from regional grapes and ages in the miles-long underground cave system, can legally be called Champagne . By visiting the Champagne, you’re basically at the source of everything that is good.

Wait, you are more into wine? Take a day trip to Bordeaux instead!

But Champagne as a region is also historically a very interesting destination. The biggest city of the new Grand Est region, Reims, had already been a major city in the Roman Empire . Some ruins got preserved until today!

Reims also has one of the most important cathedrals in France. Between the 12th and the 19th century, most french kings got crowned there. Located relatively close to the German border, many battlegrounds of WWI were located in the Champagne region and can also be visited today.

reims champagne - the centre of the famous champagne!

And to get back to the fun stuff: you can taste champagne!

What is Champagne?

Champagne is a sparkling wine made from Chardonnay, Pinot noir or Pinot Meunier grapes . Even though the term Champagne is for many a generic label for any kind of sparkling wine, legally ONLY those coming from the region can be called Champagne.

Paris to Champagne: What You Can Expect in Reims

  • a stunning cathedral (a world heritage site)
  • the Palais du Tau (also a world heritage site)

  • Famous Champagne houses like Veuve Clicquot, Ruinard, Pommery, Mumm, Taittinger, and many more. All of them have visitor centers and guided tours for you to visit the cellars and taste Champagne.

Champagne day trip Paris: The Cathedral of Reims needs to be on your Agenda

About The Gare de l’Est Train Station

Gare de l’Est has 30 platforms. Platform 2-12 and 23 -30 are used by main train lines, for example, the high-speed train TGV

Aim to arrive 30 minutes before departure at the train station to be on the safe side. Around 15 minutes before departure, the platform number will be indicated on screens. High-speed trains and trains to Reims are shown on the screen labeled “ Départs Grandes Lignes “.

To be on the safe side, aim to arrive 30 minutes before your train is scheduled.

Buy Tickets For Your Trip From Paris to Reims By Train

You can purchase your train tickets at the SNCF ticket office in Hall Alsace on the ground floor, or at the ticket vending machines that you find all over the station.

Better: Purchase your tickets in advance  here

The cathedral of Reims - just a few minutes from the station if you take the Paris to Champagne Train

Plan Your Day Trip from Paris to Champagne

If you organize your day trip from Paris to Champagne on your own, you should put a few things on your agenda. Apart from the Cathedral of Reims (beautiful!), your agenda should be filled with a couple of Champagne Houses.

If you are traveling by train, and are keen to visit both, Reims and Épernay , I advise booking a tour that starts from Reims.

Even though the train from Reims to Épernay only takes around 40 minutes, and it’s theoretically doable to visit both locations, independently. However, You will find yourself rushing.

There are simply too many schedules to respect to make it an enjoyable day trip: Train departure times, Champagne House reservations, connecting train schedules to head back etc.

You’ll be very much running from A to B.

See this all-in-one tour from Reims that includes both cities. You can also visit a champagne house in Reims on your account in the morning and join an organized tour to Épernay in the afternoon. This tour is the most popular one.

Visiting the Les Grandes Marques : The Champagne Houses in Reims

If visiting Reims with an organized tour is not really your cup of tea, you can certainly visit the headquarters and cellars of the big Champagne Houses, Les Grandes Marques, on your own.

The big houses are offering guided visits that you simply can sign up for online. Below I put together a list of the most popular ones. Just keep in mind that they are not necessarily in the center of Reims and you need to organize your own transportation.

There are busses and trams circulating in Reims, or you just get a taxi.

Or walk – from the center of Reims to Veuve Clicquot, it’s around 40min on foot.

The most popular Champagne houses in Reims:

• Veuve Clicquot – 5km from train station • guided visit from 30€/p • Ruinard-  5km from train station • guided visit from 70€/p • Pommery –  5km from train station • guided visit from 25€/p • Mumm – 1.5km from train station • guided visit from 23€/p • Taittinger – 5km from train station • guided visit from 21€/p

Find the Best Itinerary For Your Champagne Trip

There are quite a few options on how to travel to Reims and how to fill your day. It can be quite confusing but I summed up 3 options that are the most efficient.

What you pick depends on your travel style – do you appreciate traveling with a group or are you more of an independent traveler? and of course: your budget.

If you plan to visit the Champagne on a budget , book your train tickets early to get some low-fare tickets. If you reserve only one Champagne tasting and have a budget lunch, your Champagne day trip will be probably around 80€ per person. But that’s really the bare minimum.

The long cellars of the champagne houses are part of any champagne day trip from Paris

Option #1: Reims Tour, self-organized

cost for transportation to Reims, tastings, transportation in Reims, and Lunch: from approx. €150

Hop on a train (don’t forget to  book your train ticket in advance, especially since the morning trains are often sold out) and try to be in Reims early. I like to book tickets with omio.com , their page is straightforward to navigate, and you get the tickets conveniently sent to your mobile phone.

After some sightseeing , visiting the Cathedral is a must (!!)  head to the first Champagne house of your choice and enjoy a guided visit and a Champagne tasting .

Depending on where your first Champagne experience took place, you can either have lunch around the Domaine (might be a bit pricey though) or head to the Place Drouet d’Erlon in the center.

It’s a pedestrian street with plenty of restaurants. Best to check TripAdvisor to know what eateries are close to your morning Champagne tasting.

Visit a second Champagne House in the afternoon before heading back to Paris. If you can’t decide which are the best Champagne houses to visit, Taittinger and Pommery are very popular ones.

try some lovely champagne on a paris day trip

Option #2 – Visit the Champagne Region from Reims

This is a great option if you are keen to explore the region to the fullest with a tour guide but save on transportation.

Organize your own transportation from Paris to Reims and make sure you arrive around 9 am. To be on the safe side, it’s of course, best to reserve your train tickets in advance online (I think I might have mentioned that already :))

Your tour starts at 9.30 and is by far the most popular Champagne tour from Reims. Compared to similar tours, the Pommery Champagne Morning Tour & Tastings is the best value for money , it includes, among others:

  • Champagne tastings Champagne Pommery
  • visit to a family-run winery
  • a sightseeing tour of Reims
  • transportation and English-speaking guide

What my Husband and I did: Wedding Anniversary in Reims

For our wedding anniversary, my husband and I chose to spend a day in Reims. It turned out to be a lovely and memorable day.

We started our journey from Paris in the morning via TGV and our first stop was the Cathedral of Reims and a stroll through the city. The city was bigger than I expected, with many Shops, Restaurants, and Cafés.

Since it was a special occasion, we opted for lunch at Racine , a 2-star French-Japanese fusion restaurant. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience, offering delicious food and excellent service. It was a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it.

Our trip also included, of course, a tour of a Champagne House. We picked Veuve Clicquot, which held sentimental value for us as it was the Champagne we served at our wedding. The tour was informative and engaging, particularly learning about the legacy of Veuve Clicquot.

The champagne tasting was a delightful experience, with generous servings that added to our enjoyment and made me buy more Champagne than I intended 😉

One day in Reims Champagne

Voilà, taking a day tour from Paris to Champagne is fairly easy to organize, but you need to prebook.. You can take one of the unique Paris to Champage tours, or you organize the day trip on your own. Either way, it will be a day to remember. Bon voyage!

This private VIP Champagne Tour with lunch at a Michelin-starred restaurant was fantastic.

Now, I know some would argue this, but for me, champagne is the best drink in the sparkling world. Why? In a word, exclusivity.

Champagne is produced exclusively in the Champagne region of France and is a legally protected name, meaning that only sparkling wine from this region can be labelled as “champagne.”

And there are plenty of famous champagne houses and brands to choose from.

Not to mention champagne has also been associated with royalty and aristocracy since the 17th century, enhancing its appeal and status as a premium product. And, the act of popping a champagne cork has become a global gesture of fun, festivity and celebration.

Are Champagne Tours From Paris Worth It? (Ultimate Guide)

Some of the most popular things to do in Paris are Champagne tours and day trips. But are they really worth it?

Typically, you pay a lot of money for the excursion. So naturally you’ll want to make sure that you are getting your money’s worth.

Luckily for you, I have done such trips and know all about it. In short: Yes, Champagne day trips are worth it! But surely not all of them.

One day is not a lot of time to see the Champagne region, so you’ll need to pick a really great tour to make the most of it. And I am here to help you pick!

Let’s get to it!

Are (luxury) champagne tours worth it my take on it, paris day tours to champagne vs. champagne holiday, champagne day trip with 6 tastings, reims cathedral & family winery from paris, champagne vip day trip from paris with local wine expert private, booking a guided tour vs. self-organized, private luxury vs. group tours, best time to visit the champagne region, conclusion: are champagne tours from paris worth it.

I have done Champagne day trips and also visited the region by myself. And I can definitely recommend booking a day trip to Champagne from Paris if you have the time.

The Champagne is definitely worth seeing, and tasting some of the bubbly should be on your Paris bucket list for sure.

The region is just more than an hour outside of Paris, so if you have a couple of days you should reserve a day for this. I am not a fan of self-organizing a one-day trip (read below why) so I would definitely book with a provider.

But keep in mind that some of these tours offered online only visit one or two wineries that are usually not family-owned.

So it can be a bit hard to find good tours, that will provide you a good inside into the region, and not just a superficial touristic program.

Find below two tours that I think are definitely worth it when thinking about going to Champagne.

Private VIP Champagne Day Trip from Paris

  • Expert Guide
  • Visit to famous wineries (Pommery & Veuve Cliquot)

If I had to choose between visiting Champagne on a day trip from Paris or going on a designated holiday to Champagne I would pick the latter.

I think one day is barely enough to get a good glimpse of the region, so I would definitely opt for a full-blown holiday instead of a day trip.

If you have the time, combine your Paris vacation with a multi-day trip to Champagne. You’ll want to soak up the charm of the region without being rushed from A to B.

However, going for one day is better than not going at all, so I would definitely say that Champagne is worth visiting, even for a day.

🤩 5/5 Stars (440 Reviews)

Duration : 11 hours

Included : 6 glasses of Champagne, Tour of two wineries, local guide

Overall, this Champagne Day Trip from Paris is my first choice when looking for a great guided excursion.

There are two different wineries included in this trip, one of them the famous Nicolas Feuillatte. The second visit will be to a local family-owned winery.

I totally appreciate that you will get to see a bigger estate and a smaller one, to get a true feeling of the region.

Also included in this trip is a visit to the beautiful Reims Cathedral, which is another added bonus.

Lastly, you will stop by the gravestone of Dom Perignon, an important cultural site for Champagne lovers.

The group size is limited to 8 people, which is perfect in my opinion.

There is nothing not to love about this day tour to Champagne from Paris.

🤩 5/5 Stars (30 Reviews)

Included : Lunch, Visits to several wineries (including Pommery and Veuve Cliquot)

As far as private excursions to Champagne go, this Champagne VIP Day Trip from Paris is my favorite. This Champagne Tour is definitely worth it.

This tour has everything included that you could possibly need: a private guide who is also a vineyard owner, visits to the most esteemed wineries, and a traditional French lunch.

The best thing about it is you can enjoy it without having to be part of a bigger group!

Obviously, private tours come with a price tag. Since you can bring a couple of people on this trip, I feel the price is quite right.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with this day trip – especially since you can always amend the itinerary to your preferences.

beautiful cherry blossom in front of gothic church in ay de champagne

There are both pros and cons to booking a guided tour to the Champagne area from Paris versus organizing a day trip there yourself.

While organized tours are generally a little bit more expensive, they have a lot of perks.

The fact that you won’t need to worry about transportation is the biggest one.

Going from Paris to Epernay or Reims by train is easy. Getting around there not so much. Especially between the little villages of the Champagne Region, there is no proper public transport.

Another big perk is availability. Bigger Champagne houses are usually booked up way in advance. Going on a guided tour can help you there for sure since they always have slots on reserve.

The same goes for lunch restaurants. We had such a hard time finding available spots – you won’t have to look around on a guided tour.

Lastly, you’ll want to have a drink or two on this tour. It helps to have a reliable driver or tour guide to take care of the organization and the driving . There is no fun in tipsily trying to navigate back to Paris by yourself.

10 different champagne bottles on a wall next to each other

Of course, there are pros and cons to going with a smaller group or booking a private tour. There are a lot of private tours from Paris to Champagne, and you are probably wondering by now if they are worth it.

Generally, I think it is always worth splurging for a private trip if you are more than two people. This way, you barely pay more than in a group tour.

One thing to be cautious of when booking private luxury tours from Paris to Champagne is these tours that only include the driver. You’ll want a local guide to show you around, and not just a chauffeur that drops you off.

The private tour I suggested above definitely includes a great wine expert who can teach you a lot on your tour. I would say it is worth the money.

Every season in the Champagne region has a different charm.

Especially summer and autumn are considered the peak season in Champagne. Autumn is harvest season, with many festivities and attractions. Both summer and autumn are the most crowded.

I prefer visiting the Champagne region in spring . The weather is usually lovely and the area is a lot more quiet.

France of course is also always a great destination for a Christmas weekend getaway.

In this post you learned about my favorite Day Trips to the Champagne region from Paris and why they are worth it.

Champagne should definitely be on your Paris itinerary, so make sure to put a day trip on your bucket list.

The Champagne Day Trip with 6 Tastings, Reims Cathedral & Family Winery from Paris definitely wins this competition hands down. It is one of the most frequently booked trips out there, and the reviews are raving!

If you prefer booking a private trip, I have also found several great tours for every taste and budget.

Another great region in France that wine lovers will absolutely cherish is the Alsace. Their sparkling wine is just as unique, and the Alsace region is great for a road trip.

Yes, Champagne is definitely worth visiting. The region offers beautiful landscapes, fantastic sparkling wine, and delicious cuisine. It is one of the most interesting regions in France, for wine lovers and other travelers alike.

Yes, you can do a day trip to Champagne from Paris. The Champagne region is about two hours outside of Paris, so you can conveniently go there for just a day with an organized group tour or by train or car.

Epernay is for many people better than Reims. The city of Epernay is where many of the most famous Champagne houses are located. It has a certain charm and uniqueness to it, that Reims does not have. While Reims has some beautiful landmarks, the city itself is not as beautiful.

The Champagne region is about 145 km (90 m) outside of Paris. It will take you around 2 hours to drive to Champagne with a car. The train takes about two hours and is a convenient way to get there.

Taylor Swift Asks Security to Help Fan During ‘Eras Tour' Concert

Taylor Swift is always looking out for the well-being of her fans - especially when they're in the audience of her shows.

During her Friday, May 24, concert in Lisbon, Portugal , Swift, 34, was at her piano performing "Champagne Problems" and noticed a fan struggling in the crowd, per social media footage . Swift called out to security for them to assist the fan.

"Ajuda por favor. Help them please," she said while pointing in the distressed concertgoer's direction. No details about what happened to the fan have been shared.

Before the show began, there was reportedly a delay getting fans into the Estadio da Luz stadium. The show was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. but started late. According to the social media page, @tswifterastour, the stadium was around "60 to 70 percent filled" by the time Paramore took the stage. (The band started playing nearly an hour later than scheduled, according to USA Today .)

The fan account also claimed that some people were experiencing issues with security, with some staff allowing water bottles and power banks into the stage area while others were not. (According to an informational packet released ahead of the concert, the venue made a last-minute change in their policy to permit fans to bring in a plastic water bottle.)

The social media page also noted that water cups were given out and there are refill stations on the floor. Fans are also allowed to request water.

This is Swift's first time performing in Portugal. At the start of Friday's concert, she gave her Portuguese fans a sweet shoutout.

"This is my first time getting to come to Portugal, and this is how you welcome us," she said to the crowd. "When I first walked out in the show and I looked out and saw the crowd, you took my breath away. My heart was beating so fast. You just made me feel so loved. Thank you so much."

Swift has a second show in Lisbon on Saturday, May 25. After Portugal, she will jet off to Madrid as she continues the European leg of her Eras Tour for the rest of the summer.

Since Swift began the Eras Tour last year, the singer and her team have made efforts to ensure fans' safety. In May 2023, Swift also famously called out a security guard at her Philadelphia concert while she was in the middle of singing " Bad Blood ." The safety professional and a concertgoer were seemingly having a disagreement and Swift stepped in to de-escalate.

"She wasn't doing anything," Swift defended the fan in between lyrics. "Hey stop!"

While Swift was performing in Stockholm, Sweden, the singer learned that her concertgoers came up with a signal to alert her when they needed assistance.

"When you guys are holding a bunch of flashlights up in a group does that mean people need help? Say yes if it means [that]," Swift asked the crowd which they confirmed it was. "OK, if I see that again I'm gonna try to put it out."

Every Time Taylor Swift References Marriage in Her Lyrics

Although Swift has done her best to protect her fans, one Brazilian concertgoer, Ana Clara Benevides Machado , died before the pop star's show in Rio de Janeiro late last year. Her official cause of death was heat exhaustion , caused by the record temperatures across the country. During the show, Swift also struggled with the heat and made sure to keep her fans safe.

"There's people that need water," Swift told security guards per social media footage, pausing her performance of "Champagne Problems" after noticing a homemade sign with the request. "Whoever is in charge of giving them that, make sure that happens."

Laurent-Perrier : Financial Press Release - Annual results 2023-2024

Financial press release Results for the financial year 2023-2024

Further growth in earnings, underpinned by recognised quality

The financial statements for the 2023-2024 financial year, which ended on 31 March 2024, were approved by the Management Board on 21 May 2024 and reviewed on the same day by the Supervisory Board, chaired by Mr Patrick THOMAS.

The main audited consolidated financial data:

* Margin calculated on champagne sales only ** Cash flow from operations - net investments

Commenting on the half-year results, Mr Stéphane Dalyac, Chairman of the Management Board, stated:

"The Laurent-Perrier Group recorded further growth in its results in a market context that was down on the previous two years. The investments in support of our brands that we have been making for several years, and the quality of our Champagnes, have enabled us once again to achieve a significant price-mix effect and, for the second time, to report Champagne sales in excess of 300 million euros. The Laurent-Perrier Group is thus maintaining the course of its strategy by continuing to rely on the excellence of its Champagnes, the quality of its teams, the strength of its brands and the control of its distribution."

Change in turnover:

During the period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, the global champagne market recorded a volume decline of -11.8% compared to the year N-1. Against this backdrop, the Group saw its sales volumes fall by 12.4% year-on-year over the same period. Despite this, Group turnover (champagne sales) for the year rose by +0.5% to €303.5 million at current exchange rates. This performance is due in particular to the value policy implemented in recent years, with a positive price/mix effect of +13.0% vs. year N-1.

Change in profit:

During the period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, the Group continued to invest in long-term brand support (including the launch of an advertising campaign for its Grand Siècle champagne in a number of countries) and business development. This investment in sales enhancement contributes to the strength of the brands and the price/mix effect. All these factors helped to boost the Group's operating margin to a record 31.3% at current exchange rates. The Group share of net income also increased significantly. At current exchange rates, it stands at €63.6 million, representing 20.3% of the Group's turnover.

Changes in operational cash flow and financial structure:

Operating cash flow came to +€0.9 million for the 2023-2024 financial year, compared to +€57.8 million in the previous year, when the Group’s champagnes were on volume allocation. This result is due to the healthy business performance, exemplary inventory management and tight control of working capital requirements. The elements of the consolidated balance sheet for the year ended 31 March 2024 once again demonstrate the solidity of the Group's financial structure. Shareholders' equity, Group share, amounted to €597.6 million and net debt (*) stood at €191.6 million including available cash of €51.2 million. As a result, gearing also improved significantly, standing at 0.32 compared to 0.33 at 31 March 2023.

(*) Net debt: financial liabilities and other non-current debts + current debts – available cash

In a time of geopolitical upheavals and economic uncertainties, the Laurent-Perrier Group is moving forward with vigilance but confidence, continuing to implement its business plan and maintaining its value strategy, built on four essential pillars: - exclusive focus on the creation and marketing of exceptional Champagnes, - a portfolio of renowned and complementary brands, - quality sourcing supported by a policy of solid partnerships, - and well-controlled worldwide distribution.

Laurent-Perrier is one of the rare family groups of champagne houses which is listed on the stock market, and which is exclusively dedicated to champagne, and focused on the high-end market. It has a large product portfolio renowned for its quality, based around the Laurent-Perrier, Salon, Delamotte and Champagne de Castellane brands.

A building splits with a pathway running between, which was once an operating railroad

The 'original' High Line is in Paris — here's why you should walk it

Walk the original ‘High Line’ or seek out other abandoned spaces repurposed as parks, propelling plans to make Paris one of Europe’s greenest capitals.

Sunlight filters through swaying trees, starlings flit between neat hedges and a man trots after an errant golden retriever, which is making a beeline for the reflecting pool. It’s difficult to believe I’m standing on a railway viaduct in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Ten metres below, life continues as normal: cars take turns to pause one by one at a zebra crossing as shoppers mill between the high-end glassblowers’ galleries and ceramic workshops of the Viaduc des Arts, seemingly oblivious to the green ribbon of cherry trees, maples and bamboo running three storeys above their heads.

But this is, in reality, one of the city’s worst-kept   secrets. The inspiration for the New York High Line, the Coulée Verte René-Dumont, or Promenade Plantée as it’s become known, was the world’s first elevated urban park when it opened in the late 1980s — a joint effort from landscaper Jacques Vergely and architect Philippe Mathieux. Stretching for just over three miles between Opéra Bastille and Bois de Vincennes on the obsolete Vincennes train line, it now holds a special place in Parisian hearts.

“It’s so high up that you’d never know it was here, and at one time it was totally unique,” says Aloïs, a Tours by Locals guide and former resident of the 12th arrondissement. “When I used to live in this neighbourhood, I’d go jogging up here to get away from the traffic,” she says, tying her auburn hair into a ponytail with a pink ribbon as a warm late-summer’s breeze washes in over the railings.

A railroad through a green oasis in the city of paris

Paris plans to become — quite literally — one of Europe’s greenest capitals, with current mayor Anne Hidalgo promising a “massive greening” when she was elected. This has already started, with the plan to plant 170,000 trees by 2026 underway, in an effort to create urban forests across the city. By 2030, city authorities want half of Paris covered in planted areas, whether they’re parkland or living rooftops.

Our plan today is to walk the Coulée Verte and then find its little sister La Petite Ceinture — another former train line that’s currently part community garden, part secret passage into the city’s underbelly. Translating as the ‘Little Belt’, this rewilded railroad circles Paris, but with only a few sections safe enough to open to the public — thanks in part to the active electrical lines that remain in places.

But first we set off to explore the city along the Coulée Verte, passing through several ivy-covered arches, level with the treetops, church spires and roofs of elegant Haussmann apartment blocks on either side. On the right, the 1991 Commissariat de Police building on Avenue Daumesnil comes into view, adorned with a troop of identical carved stone figures tugging exasperatedly at their tousled hair, each with one elbow raised to the sky — inspired by Michelangelo’s Dying Slave sculpture in the Louvre. Down on the street, I would have barely noticed them.

Soon, the path descends to the Jardin de Reuilly, where we find the lawns dotted with picnickers, and we stumble across a local celebrity: La Pétillante, or ‘She Who Sparkles’. There are many ornate cast-iron water fountains across Paris, but this one is a little different. It dispenses fizzy water and was installed over a decade ago to cut down on single-use plastics. We watch as a man with a copy of Le Monde newspaper under one arm fills up his bottle. “ Voilà , you see the bubbles?” says Aloïs, gesturing enthusiastically.

Two people walking through the vy-covered arches on the Coulée Verte - a rail road which circles Paris.

From here, via the echoey stretches of dark railway tunnel signalling the end of the Coulée Verte, we head off in search of La Petite Ceinture in the 18th arrondissement. Circling the city in a rattling orbit from 1862, the Little Belt predates the Paris Metro by several decades and was eventually made obsolete by it, its trains whistling their final fond farewells shortly after the Metro’s 1900 launch. After La Petite Ceinture’s closure, in rushed the flora, fauna and street artists, the abandoned stations eventually becoming almost apocalyptic-looking, the tunnels and tracks accented with wildflowers and neon-bright graffiti tags. Parisians are divided on what to do with this ghost line. Some are calling to preserve its biodiversity and open up the entire stretch to pedestrians, while others are keen to usher in the housing developers. For now, while city authorities are still deciding what to do with it, it runs in a broken circle, punctuated by chain-link fences beyond which only urban explorers make illicit trips into the 18th-century catacombs.

Initially, La Petit Ceinture proves difficult for us to find. “How do we get down there?” Aloïs calls from an overpass as we peer down at the people walking on former train platforms. “By the Metro,” comes the response from below, so we set off towards La Recyclerie — a train station in its past life, which has been repurposed into an industrial cafe, urban farm and recycling workshop that attracts hip young Parisians from miles around. Today there’s a craft fair being held beside the rails, and it’s so popular that the queue to get in meanders onto the street. Inside the former station, Gallic chatter and the clattering of cutlery is punctuated by the whirring of a tattoo gun.

We step out of La Recyclerie’s back door and into a melee of vintage clothes rails and jewellery stalls, set up around bug hotels and compost heaps. “Many people want La Petite Ceinture to become like the Coulée Vert,” Aloïs says as we descend towards the tracks, passing clucking chickens fed on scraps from the kitchens. “Lots of us want it to open all the way around. I’d like it to be open; it could be a gigantic green space available to all of us Parisians.”
