The Weeknd Announces 2022 North American Tour
By Nina Corcoran
The Weeknd has announced a 2022 tour in support of his most recent albums, Dawn FM and 2020âs After Hours . The first leg of the trek will see him perform concerts in stadia across the United States and Canada. The tour will feature special guest Doja Cat . According to a press release, there will be more concerts in Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East announced soon. Find the dates for the first leg below.
The Weeknd has also partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to launch the XO Humanitarian Fund, Powered by World Food Programme. The fund works toward ending the global hunger crisis. The Weeknd has donated $500,000 to the fund, according to a press release, and plans to contribute an additional $1 from each tour ticket sold. âThe goal with this fund is to provide immediate life-saving support to people who are on the brink of starvation,â the Weeknd said in a statement. âIâm so thankful to have WFP as a partner and to further expand our reach to those who need it most.â
Last year, the Weeknd postponed his tour for the third time due to the pandemic . When explaining his reasons for doing so, the Weeknd promised the new version of the tour would be âsomething bigger and special for you which requires stadiums.â
After announcing the end of his After Hours era with â Take My Breath â last summer, the Weeknd revealed Dawn FM just a few days before its arrival last month. Swedish House Mafia remixed â Sacrifice â for an âAlternate Worldâ edition of the project, which also included the joint track â Moth to a Flame â and Agents of Timeâs remix of âTake My Breath.â
The Weeknd has been a busy collaborator in recent months, as well, appearing on new tracks with FKA twigs , Post Malone , and RosalĂa , plus a posthumous release from Aaliyah . He unveiled his new immersive television special, The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience , through Prime Video in February

The Weeknd tour kicks off with an apocalyptic stadium rave in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA â If The Weekndâs âDawn FMâ album is the equivalent of a dance party in purgatory , his live show is nothing less than a rave before the apocalypse.
The emotionally intense singer-songwriter finally achieved liftoff with his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour on July 14 at Lincoln Financial Field. The launch was not only a victim of COVID-19 postponements over the past two years, but also saw its initial kickoff date delayed last weekend in the performerâs hometown of Toronto, where a nationwide internet outage stymied venue operations.
That pent-up eagerness to perform emerged the moment The Weeknd, sporting a plastic face mask, rose from one of the burned-out building models erected as a part of a skyline on the main stage for âAlone Again,â from his massive 2020 album, âAfter Hours.â
From there, it was a blitz of chaotic lighting, beat drops and The Weeknd encouraging the sold-out crowd of more than 45,000 like an enthusiastic Peloton instructor as he poured his gorgeous upper range over a trio of âDawn FMâ tracks : âGasoline,â âSacrificeâ and âHow Do I Make You Love Me?â
Welcome to 'Harry's House': Styles' latest taps into synths, funk, loneliness
Though no band was present (or at least seen), the music unfurled seamlessly and crisply as the man born Abel Tesfaye cavorted between the front stage and a runway that stretched the length of the field, often surrounded by mysterious dancers in full-body shrouds.
At 32, The Weeknd has already crafted record-breaking releases (in January, âDawn FMâ charted 24 songs on Billboardâs Global 200 chart), Â headlined a Super Bowl halftime show , boycotted the Grammy Awards and now conceived an ambitious sprawl of a stadium spectacle that mostly flourishes.
The creative setup includes field seating that partially faces the runway rather than the main stage, giving the show an in-the-round vibe (a giant inflatable moon hangs at the other end of the stadium for reasons only The Weeknd could answer). Two small video screens attached to light towers faced those in the nether regions, but with the primary screen used only for aesthetics, more than half of the stadium was denied any close-ups of the singer.
But no one could refute The Weekndâs unflagging energy, the scope of his catalog curated for the set list or his cool-guy vibe (after about six songs, he stripped off a black coat that had to be sweltering in Phillyâs summer humidity, but retained the black gloves that matched the rest of his ensemble).
His appealing blend of New Wave and pop with smidgens of hip-hop and soul were sometimes mixed with dramatic accouterments, such as the church organ that introduced âHurricane,â his song with Ye.
And while the exceptional lighting â which stuttered with teal shades during âKiss Landâ and the ensuing âParty Monsterâ â carried the visual aspects of the concert, The Weeknd threw in some rock trappings with giant puffs of pyro exploding along the catwalk and adding to the meltdown of the skyline during âThe Hills.â A supply of plastic wristbands handed out to concertgoers upon arrival blinked faithfully during the gliding âI Feel It Coming,â which also featured a cameo of Jim Carreyâs smooth-groove DJ voice from the âDawn FMâ album.
Looking for 'Love'? Think about going to see The Beatles' Cirque show in Vegas
The most major of The Weekndâs hits â âCanât Feel My Face,â âStarboyâ and, toward the end of the 100-minute show, âBlinding Lightsâ â caused mini eruptions in the crowd as they screamed familiar choruses. But throughout the night, his fans, primarily the young men packing the venue, sang his words of love, lust and longing with gusto, The Weeknd their conduit for expression.
With his excellent âDawn FMâ album to still promote, The Weeknd naturally stoked the set list with current single âOut of Time,â a throwback ballad with DeBarge overtones , and the heavenly âLess Than Zero,â its spidery synthesizer inserts the perfect complement to the shimmery keyboards that propel âSave Your Tears,â which preceded it.
Last fall, The Weeknd decided to shift his tour from arenas to stadiums because he had a vision he wanted to present on a major scale. It was worth the wait.
Opening the show in lieu of Doja Cat , who announced in May that tonsil surgery would prevent her from joining the tour, were DJ/producers Mike Dean and Kaytranada (Swedish R&B singer Snoh Aalegra will join Dean on several dates in August).
Dean stood behind a bank of keyboards, presenting chill instrumentals with flecks of electric guitar for his 30-minute set as the crowd filed in. At 7:30 p.m., Kaytranada bounced onto the stage to work his DJ setup â a laptop and mixing board â and slowly elevated the mood as he danced behind his table to remixes of songs by Rihanna and Janet Jackson, while also showcasing his own beats.
Both openers served more as accompaniment rather than artists to engage with â creating even greater anticipation for The Weekndâs arrival.

The Weeknd Reached Global Stadium Tour Status, at Last
We were there at the second stop on The Weekndâs first global stadium tour in New Jersey. Hereâs our review of the After Hours Til Dawn Tour.
Image via Getty/Theo Wargo
The Weeknd couldnât help himself. Looking out over a sold-out crowd at MetLife Stadium, he tilted his head back and took in the moment as rain fell from the New Jersey sky.
âThis might be the greatest night of my life,â he beamed.
It was the kind of over-the-top statement that often slips out of artistsâ mouths in moments of euphoriaâa nice gesture to make an audience feel special. But on Saturday night, you got the feeling he actually meant it.Â
After all, The Weekndâs first global stadium tour has been a long time coming. Not only did he have to endure multiple COVID-related delays and cancellations over the past two years, heâs been working towards these stadium shows for much of his career.
When his breakout mixtape trilogy first hit blogs back in 2011, most people would never have guessed that the brooding, mysterious singer who rarely showed his face would be selling out stadiums a decade later, but heâs been laying the groundwork for this tour ever since scaling his sound up to popstar status with smash records like âCanât Feel My Faceâ in the mid-2010s. (Although, even Abel Tesfaye couldnât have guessed his first stadium tour would be sponsored by a cryptocurrency company called Binance as part of the first-ever âcrypto-powered world tour.â Times sure have changed since the Tumblr days.)

In the days leading up to the tour, Abel promised fans that he would bring his âopera to a stadium near you,â and he happily indulged his taste for theatrics inside the massive stadium. On one side, he erected a dystopian cityscape. On the other, there was a large inflatable moon that apparently blocked the view of some attendees (but looked cool as hell for everyone else). And although Abel didnât bring along any guests on tour, besides openers Mike Dean and Kaytranada, he was accompanied by over 20 dancers draped in flowing red cloaks, which added to the drama.
But first, a surprise. Before Abel took the stage, he debuted a teaser for the forthcoming HBO Max series The Idol , which he co-created alongside Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim. In case anyone at MetLife forgot heâs a global superstar now, what better way to remind them than by sprinkling in a little Hollywood glitz?
When the trailer ended, the cityscape turned to an apocalyptic red and The Weeknd finally appeared, donning a plastic mask as dramatic stage lights flashed around him. As soon as he sang the opening notes of âAlone Again,â though, it was clear he wouldnât need to lean on the lavish set and theatrics to keep the stadium crowd entertained. His voice was more than enough.Â
Abel has come a long way since his live debut at the Mod Club in Toronto back in 2011, when he stood very still in front of the crowd and figured out how to translate his recordings to the stage in real time. Since the beginning, his live vocals have had enough power to carry a stadium performance on their own, but now heâs learned to physically command a massive venue like MetLife, moving effortlessly up and down the elongated stage with his backup dancers. This was only the second stop on the tour, but he confidently navigated the set, avoiding any major hiccups. This might be his first stadium tour, but he is the same guy who just played the fucking Super Bowl, after all. He was ready for this.
As unlikely as The Weekndâs rise has beenâfrom shadowy, mysterious origins to international fameâheâs become a remarkably fitting superstar for this strange and chaotic period in human history. The tourâs dystopian imagery is reflective of the times, and heâs built up a catalog of songs that are very well-suited for the unsettling reality we find ourselves in. Heâs uniquely positioned to offer moments of blissful escapism (âLess Than Zeroâ goes off in a stadium) before hitting you over the head with tragic anthems full of bleak undertones, and his career-spanning 29-song setlist beautifully oscillated between both energies.Â
There will always be a place for shiny popstars who are completely removed from reality, but in 2022, a more nuanced, grounded star like Abel feels much more appropriate. This is a time that calls for artists who arenât afraid of diving into the darker aspects of lifeâsomething he does better than anyone. One of the loudest moments during Sunday nightâs show came when a stadium full of people passionately screamed along to the desperate pleas of his tortured anthem âCall Out My Name.â Thatâs the energy people are looking for right now.
Abel understands that he has different types of fans to please at every show (those who came for smash hits like âCanât Feel My Faceâ and those who came for deeper cuts from the early years) and he was able to offer something to each. The bulk of the setlist was reserved for newer songs from After Hours and Dawn FM , as well as recent collaborations like âHurricaneâ with Kanye west, but he also made sure to sneak in surprises like âKiss Landâ for the day-one supporters, shouting, âThis is for the OG XO fans!âÂ
A decade into his career, Abel has turned into quite a showman. He chooses his words carefully onstage, but he usually says the right things at the right times. After a particularly impassioned singalong, he exclaimed, âYou guys sing better than me!â And when it started raining in the middle of the show, he happily embraced it, telling the crowd, âLook how beautiful this rain is,â before teasing, âYâall not trying to go home right now, are you?â He even handled the awkward state-straddling location of the stadium well, making sure to shout out both New Jersey and New York City throughout the show.
This stadium tour is the culmination of many smart decisions by Abel over the years. Some of it came by chance (he only decided to book stadiums after combining his After Hours and Dawn FM tours into one and increasing demand) but the larger career arc was well-calculated. After the success of those early mixtapes, the safe decision would have been to remain a mysterious figure at the peripherals of the pop landscape. But instead of limiting himself to the role of cult hero, he set his sights on worldwide stadium tours, and achieved exactly that. Getting a chance to perform his No. 1 hit âStarboyâ for over 60,000 screaming fans is the payoff from a choice to expand his sound in the mid-2010s.Â
It didnât happen overnight, but now that heâs here, The Weeknd has a hell of a catalog for a stadium tour. Is there a better possible way to end a concert in 2022 than with four bulletproof hits like âCall Out My Name,â âThe Morning,â âSave Your Tears,â and âLess Than Zero,â right before playing the biggest US Billboard Hot 100 single of all time (âBlinding Lightsâ)? Judging by the roar of the MetLife crowd, the answer is no.
No wonder he said it was the best night of his life.

The Weeknd's Phoenix concert was an epic, post-apocalyptic hellscape. Why that was awesome
Itâs been five years since the Weeknd last appeared in metro Phoenix when the Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour  made its way to what was then called Talking Stick Resort Arena.
Heâs dropped two albums, headlined the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show and graduated to a bigger room since then, bringing the After Hours Til Dawn Tour to an extremely crowded State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
And the man born Abel Tesfaye rose to the occasion, doubling down on the dizzying expectations raised by that halftime performance when it came to spectacle while reminding fans that he could just as easily have entertained the back rows of the stadium on the strength of his magnetic presence and the power of his music.
He's the fourth-most-streamed artist on Spotify, a star whose time to headline stadiums has clearly come.
Don't miss out: All the latest concert announcements for metro Phoenix
The Weeknd goes heavy on songs from 'Dawn FM' and 'After Hours'
Arriving less than a week after a caravan of â80s rockers packed that same room for the Stadium Tour , the Weeknd put the focus squarely on the here and now, performing seven songs from this yearâs âDawn FMâ and six from 2020âs âAfter Hours.â
As the title of the tour suggests, heâs touring on both albums, having canceled the arena trek originally planned for âAfter Hoursâ due to health concerns regarding the pandemic.
Giving those albums a turn in the spotlight still allowed plenty of time in a 29-song set that ran 90-some minutes to cycle through crowd-pleasing highlights from across his career, reaching back to his first mixtape, 2011âs âHouse of Balloons,â for âThe Morning" and a song that felt like the concert's emotional zenith, "Wicked Games."
He also dusted off his features on songs he recorded with Drake (âCrew Loveâ), Future (âLow Lifeâ) and Ty Dolla Sign (âOr Nahâ) and the organ-driven Kanye West collaboration âHurricane.â

A conceptual extension of the Super Bowl halftime show
In announcing the tour, the Weeknd promised it would âsee his most ambitious production to date reflecting the creative journey that continues to unfold for both these albums, creating worlds within worlds as we have all been watching unfold in various television performances, music videos and short films."
La Mar Taylor, the concert's creative director, further explained what that might look like in a conversation with Variety .
âThe entire show is conceptual,â Taylor said. âThere is a linear story between âAfter Hoursâ and âDawn FM,â and I think the audience will walk away with different interpretations of the show.â
Taylor also said theyâd taken inspiration from the Super Bowl performance âand expanded it,â adding, âThere were so many restrictions and constraints around that performance that we could not fully realize the vision we had for it. Now we can.â
The Super Bowl returns to metro Phoenix: Who should play the halftime show?
The Weeknd's stage show was a post-apocalyptic hellscape
The concert began on an ominous note as a swarm of veiled and hooded dancers in flowing red garments trudged across a war-torn hellscape of bombed-out buildings backlit by an eerie post-apocalyptic glow on a video screen that filled in the rest of the ever-changing skyline.
Dressed in black from head to toe, including a trench coat and gloves, the Weeknd made his entrance from beneath the dystopian ruins on a slow-rising hydraulic lift, setting the tone with his trembling delivery of âAlone Again,â the track that opens âAfter Hours."
It proved a suitably dramatic point of entry to what followed as he recontextualized his catalog to suit the existential thread that runs through both those recent albums, which are said to be the first two chapters in a trilogy.
By the time "Alone Again" was ending, those dancers were slogging single file along the catwalk that led from the main stage to a platform in the middle of the stadium and a circular stage at the opposite end of the venue under a giant inflatable moon as the Weeknd segued into âGasolineâ from âDawn FM.â

A night at the club with the Weeknd
The quasi-operatic darkness of the staging didnât stop the Weeknd from making the stadium feel more like a dance club on tracks that grooved as hard as the throbbing club beat of âSacrificeâ and âHow Do I Make You Love Me?,â the Weeknd dividing the crowd down the middle and leading fans in chanting "right sideâ or âleft sideâ accordingly.
He paced the concert like a DJ, most songs segueing into the next for maximum momentum as he started offsetting those newer tracks with the earlier classics that got him to the level where the Super Bowl starts calling, from âCanât Feel My Face,â much of it done as a spirited call and response with the audience, to âThe Hillsâ and âStarboy.â
Other highlights included "Often," "Party Monster," "I Feel It Coming" and "Die for You."
It all blended together, in a way, but the end result was more seamless than sameness.Â
An extremely energetic presence, he underscored a number of the concert's more electrifying peaks by hopping up and down, pumping his fists in the air.Â
His vocals sounded great throughout, from the vulnerability he displayed on the opening song to the full-throated pleading of "Call Out My Name," although his vocals did get swallowed on occasion in the bass-heavy sludge of the mix combined with stadium acoustics.
If there were musicians in the building, they were nowhere to be seen. The entire performance hinged on the Weeknd and, to a lesser extent, those dancers (22 in all), who rarely called attention to themselves.Â

After Hours Til Dawn Tour was as off the hook as promised
It was the Weeknd's spotlight and he owned it.
The production was as off the hook as promised, with a laser light show, plenty of pyro and a stage show as elaborate as anything this side of Lady Gaga or Madonna. Fans' synchronized wristbands added to the light show.
Billowing black smoke engulfed the city set as Hendrixian guitar gave way to church organ on a moody version of his West collaboration, "Hurricane." As that song morphed into "The Hills," the city was in flames as columns of fire burst from the floor at the edge of the runway and buildings crumbled on the skyline.
It was epic, as they say.
And yet, it wouldnât have been nearly as effective if he hadnât done his best to back up those theatrical ambitions with performances that underscored the strength of the material, from that awe-inspiring "Wicked Games" to the "After Hours" smash he wisely held back for a suitably triumphant finish, âBlinding Lights."
Most stars who headline stadiums will never have a calling card as undeniable as "Blinding Lights," the first song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to spend a full year in the Top 10 (in the course of a record-breaking 90-week run on the charts). And it sounded especially great coming out of the synth-pop-revival vibe of "Less Than Zero."

Mike Dean and Kaytranada open the Weeknd concert in style
The concert started with a set by DJ Mike Dean, who has a history of working with the Weeknd in the studio.
Manning his laptop and assorted synth from a spot on the runway, he greeted the early arrivals with a set that punctuated cinematic soundscapes with speaker-rattling bass and occasional outbursts of block-rocking beats.Â
At one point, he switched to electric guitar for a crowd-pleasing version of "Where You Belong," a Weeknd track he produced for "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Kaytranada followed with a highly entertaining set that felt more like a really good night at the club. Highlights ranged from "10%," which was accompanied by its classic music video, to his remix of the Janet Jackson single "If."Â
It was a perfect way to set the tone for the heavy club vibe of the Weeknd's own performance.

This was such a great show!! I would definitely see him live again.
-great light display/props/theatrics
-he sang music from all his albums which was well appreciated!
-he interacted with the crowd
-he sings AMAZING live
-chill atmosphere
-performers/musicians were smoking weed on stage
-Abel took a longgg time to get on stage, we were there for almost two hours before he did
-crowd was very drunk & rude (not his fault)
-merchandise was very expensive (I payed $40 for a t-shirt)

This review might not be completely objective as Abel has been my favourite singer for a few years now. However, I can definitely admit the Starboy tour date in Paris was the best pop concert I've been to this year. Even though some songs could have been put out of the tracklist, he mostly sang his catchiest songs of his career, no matter the era. He has great, or should I say, tremendous energy as he continuously sang twenty-something songs with no pause in between. He has no trouble reaching high notes live, his voice sounding even more heavenly in real life. That night, he invited Travis Scott on stage who pumped up the crowd more than him, which is a shame and showcases very well his lack of success and recognition in France, yet, in a sold out stadium. Most people actually didn't even know his real name or the lyrics of his songs ! I would recommend any "real fan" who has known him for a while or who likes his last album a lot to go to a Starboy tour date. I promise you, you won't regret it.
The concert was absolutely stunning. A starship was used and the lights were coordinated very well. Abel sang amazingly in person and I loved jumping up and down screaming with other members of the audience while he sang. The concert was truly magical and I enjoyed every second Abel stood on stage.
As for the other singers who appeared on stage, I was very satisfied with their singing as well. They did an amazing job and captured the entire audience. In between Abel's music, the other singers such as Lil Uzi and 6lack played their hits on stage and the whole crowd became even more alive. If I the concert played out any other way, I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as this concert.

The Weeknd Moves Tour Dates to Summer 2022

While outdoor concerts and medium-sized tours have more or less returned after 18 months of pandemic shutdown, the bread and butter of the concert industry — the arena tour — has been slowest to come back. The Weeknd ’s “After Hours” tour, which was o riginally scheduled to launch in June of 2020 , was to relaunch in January of next year.
But owing to several factors, the trek has been escalated to a stadium tour and bumped to the summer of 2022, with dates to be announced in the coming weeks. The general itinerary has also been updated to include North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East.
“The ‘After Hours’ tour dates are moving and will commence in the summer of 2022 due to constraints of arenas and the desire to do something bigger and special for fans that will require stadiums,” the artist announced in a statement on social media Monday.
“New dates forthcoming. Current tickets will be refunded automatically and all ticketholders will be given priority to buy tickets for the stadium shows when they go on sale,”
Popular on Variety
The purpose of the move may be twofold: First, as stated, the tour has been rebranded — it is now called “After Hours ’til the Dawn,” reflecting the theme and perhaps the title of his forthcoming new album , which he exclusively tipped to Variety earlier this year — and, after his eye-popping halftime performance at the Super Bowl in February, the Weeknd has proven that he can stage a stadium-sized show. He released a new single titled “Take My Breath ” in August; there’s also a snippet of a different new song in a follow-up Instagram post — hear it below.
But also, the ongoing pandemic and the inconsistency of social-distancing precautions across North America has made the return of arena tours a significant challenge, although several such tours are taking place at the moment. Moving the dates to next summer not only allows for the Weeknd to stage a bigger show, holding the concerts in the open air alleviates many concerns about mass gatherings.
Variety will have more on this situation as it develops.

The Weeknd has abruptly postponed his Australian stadium tour just two weeks out from its start date.
The Canadian singer – real name Abel Tesfaye – was due to kick off his ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ tour in Brisbane on November 20, but has pulled the pin citing “unforeseen circumstances”.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour,” The Weeknd said in a statement.
“New dates will be announced next year, and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you!”
Local entertainment company Live Nation, which is looking after The Weeknd for the Australian leg of his tour, added, “We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible.”
Ticketek has updated The Weeknd’s ticketing page on its website, saying ticket holders would be contacted with new dates “in due course”.
“Patrons unable to attend the new dates can obtain a refund from the point of purchase,” the website added.
The Weeknd, 33, announced six Australian dates at the end of August much to the excitement of his local fans.
He was due to perform at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on November 20 and 21, before hosting back-to-back shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 24 and 25.
His final shows in Australia were set for Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on December 1 and 2, before the star was headed to New Zealand for two shows at Auckland’s Eden Park on December 8 and 9.
The tour is in support of his fourth and fifth studio albums, After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022).

The Weeknd has pledged another $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to the World Food Programme’s humanitarian response efforts in war-torn Gaza.
According to a statement released on Monday (April 29), the money from the artist who now goes by his real name, Abel Tesfaye, will be used to provide more than 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, which can be used to make more than 18 million loaves of bread to feed more than 157,000 Palestinians for a month.

“We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza,” Barron Segar, WFP USA president/CEO said in a statement. “Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen. Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need.”
To date, Tesfaye, his partners and fans have raised more than $6.5 million for the Fund, with the singer directing $4.5 million toward Gaza relief.
The UN reported last week that after nearly seven months of Israeli bombardment WFP’s Geneva office director said , “People cannot meet even the most basic, food needs. They have exhausted all coping strategies, like eating animal fodder, begging, selling off their belongings to buy food. They are most of the time destitute and clearly some of them are dying of hunger.”

Breaking: The Weeknd has cancelled his Australian tour
After postponing due to âunforeseen circumstancesâ, the Starboy has officially scrapped all of his sold-out shows
Nooo! After months of confusion following the announcement in November last year that the Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”, it has just been revealed that the entire run of sold-out Aussie gigs have been cancelled.
The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) had been scheduled to play four epic shows at Marvel Stadium on December 1, 2, 4 and 5, 2023, with performances also confirmed in both Sydney and Brisbane. None of these will go ahead now, with Ticketek confirming that full refunds will be issued to all ticketholders
“Whilst we continue to work through the rescheduling process with the artist, tickets for the existing 2023 tour will be cancelled. All purchased tickets will receive a full refund,” reads a statement on the ticketing company’s website.
It’s expected that refunds will take approximately 30 days to appear in the accounts of ticketholders. And if the Weeknd does indeed decide to head Down Under again (c’mon, we gotta hold out hope), those people will be able to access a priority pre-sale purchase window for new tickets. If sitting in that stressful Ticketek waiting room is something you’d do all over again just to see the Starboy in real life, there’s a waitlist you can join here .
There’s been no word from the Weeknd himself regarding the Aussie cancellations, and he didn’t publicly comment on the initial postponement – so we’re not holding out hope for statement (or apology!).
All those tears you were saving for another day? Yep, it’s time to shed ‘em. We’ll keep you updated with new info as it comes in.

The Weeknd Donates $2 Million to Provide 18 Million Loaves of Bread to Gaza Families
By Kalia Richardson

The Weeknd is pledging another $2 million to help feed families in Gaza . The donation comes from his XO Humanitarian Fund, which helps combat global hunger. The $2 million will be used to make more than 18 million loaves of bread and feed more than 157,000 Palestinians for a month, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) reported Monday.
“With famine looming in Gaza, Abel’s generous support will provide vital relief for thousands of Palestinian families who battle the grip of hunger every day,” Corinne Fleischer, the WFP’s director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe Region, said in a statement. “We are tremendously grateful for his contribution, compassion, and for his unwavering advocacy for WFP and the people of Palestine.”

Israel and Hamas have been at war since Oct. 7. After Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel, 300,000 Israeli troops swelled around Gaza cutting off access to food, water, and gas. Following nearly seven months at war, Gaza’s Palestinian health authorities are now unable to keep up with the multiplying death toll, with unknown bodies within collapsed infrastructure, unstable means of communication, and crumbling hospitals. In March, seven World Central Kitchen aid workers were killed by Israeli forces, and last week the UN called for an “independent, effective and transparent” investigation following the discovery of mass graves at two major hospitals in Gaza.
“We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza,” said Barron Segar, the president and CEO of World Food Program USA. “Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen. Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need.”

The Weeknd 's manager Amir "Cash XO" Esmailian is currently dealing with the aftermath of a scary situation -- this after one of his security guards was shot multiple times.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the shooting occurred early Monday morning at 2:25 AM outside a home in the Amestoy Estates area of Encino, a Los Angeles suburb.
According to cops, the security guard encountered three males wearing hoodies and masks who had made their way onto the $12 million property that boasts 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and a "state-of-the-art security system.''

Paramedics rushed the guard to a hospital and local reports say he's in critical condition.
Sources connected to the situation tell TMZ Hip Hop -- the shooting was a result of an attempted home invasion and Cash XO was unharmed in the incident. Cops say the suspects fled the scene before they arrived, and it's unclear whether they were wounded or not.
