Bruce Springsteen, known for his hit songs such as Dancing in the Dark, I'm on Fire and Born in the U.S.A., is back in Cardiff after more than a decade

Thousands of music fans of all ages filled the Principality Stadium for the much-awaited return of American singer Bruce Springsteen. Also known as The Boss, 74-year-old Springsteen kick-started the European leg of his 2024 tour at Cardiff's huge stadium - and he performed an epic three-hour set!

The Dancing in the Dark, I'm on Fire and Born in the U.S.A. hitmaker and the E Street Band, who Springsteen has performed with for more than five decades, were due on-stage at 6.45pm but actually started their concert just after 7pm. Their show went on until just after 10pm, with Bruce and the E Street Band playing dozens of their hits!

The last time The Boss and his E Street Band performed in Cardiff was in the summer of 2013. Previously, they had played the Cardiff stadium in 2008. Although the legend played a series of UK gigs back in summer 2023, Springsteen had to cut short his world tour due to suffering with symptoms of a peptic ulcer. It's fair to say therefore that this has been a long-awaited gig at the Cardiff stadium, with many excited fans eagerly anticipating to be in the presence of one of the world's greatest ever rock stars.

Cardiff travel update: Megabus services delayed

On social media, Megabus warns that some Cardiff services are experiencing delays.

"SERVICES IN AND OUT OF CARDIFF MAY BE SUBJECT TO DELAY DUE TO BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN CONCERT TAKING PLACE," the firm says.

Where can I park for the concert tonight?

Cardiff Council is recommending people attending the Bruce Springsteen concert tonight consider using one of these carparks:

Park & Ride

• Where: Park and Ride services are running between the former Toys R Us shop in the Sports Village, Cardiff Bay CF11 0JS and Callaghan Square in the city centre (and back)
• Car park closing time: the last bus from the city centre will be at midnight with the site closing soon after
• Cost: using the Park & Ride costs £15, cash only

Civic Centre

• Where: Exit junction 32 of the M4, head south on the A470 towards the city centre and follow signage to the civic centre
• Car park closing time: midnight
• Cost: £20 payable on the day for cars or £30 for coaches – card payments are available

Sophia Gardens

• Where: Sophia Gardens, (approx half-mile walk to Principality Stadium's gate 2) - exit junction 32 off the M4
• Cost: £20 for cars or £30 for coaches – card payments are available

Cardiff Council says: "Please note: Sophia Gardens car park will be staffed until 7pm, all vehicles are left on-site at the owner's risk. Cardiff Council will not be held responsible for any theft or damage to motor vehicles or personal possessions. Any vehicles left in the car park after closing time will be fined."

City centre car parks

• North Road Car Parks, St David's Shopping Centre, John Lewis, Capitol Shopping Centre, and NCP (Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road) are all available for concert-goers, Cardiff Council says

Cardiff Council is also advising:

Disabled parking

• Disabled drivers are advised to use Sophia Gardens. Disabled parking is also available at various private car parks - please check individual websites for availability
• St Mary Street taxi rank (outside the House of Fraser building) will close at 2pm and will re-open at midnight

Roads in the city centre are now closed

Some roads in the city centre are now closed and will not re-open until midnight, Cardiff Council has confirmed.

All of the road closures are:

• Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.
• Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.
• Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.)
• Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted.)
• The following roads will be closed in their entirety: Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.
• Station Terrace and Guildford Street from the junction with Newport Road to the junction with Churchill Way will be access for buses only during the times of the road closures. This is to ensure that there is reliable access for buses to the satellite points in Churchill Way.

· Additionally, Penarth Road will be closed 30 minutes before the concert finishes and up to hour after the concert ends on safety grounds for train passengers arriving and departing from the train station.

Queues already forming outside the stadium

The Bruce Springsteen queues are already taking up the entire boardwalk near the stadium.

Gates open at 4pm, with the concert said to be starting at around 6.45pm.

Transport for Wales issues post-event queue system

For those intending on travelling to and from Cardiff via train services, Transport for Wales has issued a post-event queue system.

On X, Transport for Wales said: "To ensure everyone gets home safely a post-event queue system will be in place at Cardiff Central station after the concert."

Are there any tickets left?

There are still tickets left for the Sunday, May 5 concert and they are priced from £74.

Granted, it's still not easy on the bank account, but with a show that's going to be probably three hours long and full of high energy, super Springsteen hits and more , it's going to be worth it to be in the presence of one of the world's greatest ever rock stars. Now these £74.60 are available from Ticketmaster and there are plenty left, but, just to include all the information, they are on the side, block U32 to be exact, so you won't be able to see the show full frontal and they are sold as having an "obstructed view".
