Lakshadweep is an archipelago of twelve atolls, three reefs and five submerged banks, with a total of about thirty-nine islands and islets. The reefs are in fact also atolls, although mostly submerged, with only small unvegetated sand cays above the high-water mark. The submerged banks are sunken atolls. Almost all the atolls have a northeast-southwest orientation with the islands lying on the eastern rim, and a mostly submerged reef on the western rim, enclosing a lagoon. It has 10 inhabited islands, 17 uninhabited islands, attached islets, 4 newly formed islets and 5 submerged reefs.

The main islands are Kavaratti, Agatti, Minicoy, and Amini. The total population of the territory is 60,595 according to the 2001 census. Agatti has an airport with direct flights from Kochi.

Which cabin should I book?

A lot of first time cruisers choose an inside cabin (an internal cabin without a window) solely due to their budget or simply because they spend maximum time at the lounge, spa, deck or activity area and only require a room for sleep and changeover. However you will be surprised to know that there is normally a very small difference to upgrade to an ocean view cabin (cabin with a view). For a whole different experience think about upgrading to a balcony cabin or mini-suite. Indian nationals may provide their Passport, Driving Licensee, PAN Card, Voters Card or Aadhaar Card for entry into port and embarkation. For Foreign nationals, Passport is mandatory (please check with the Indian Immigration Office for precise documents apart from valid Passport)

Lakshadweep Samudram is a Five-day cruise to visit the islands of Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Kadmath by ship- M.V Lagoon. The island tour is organized during the day with lunch and refreshments ashore. Nights are spent on board the ship. M.V Lagoon has 4 Diamond class, 12 Gold Class and 70 Bunk Class accommodations. Swimming, snorkeling and other water sports are arranged during the day tour. Children from 1 year and above up to 10 years will be treated as child.

MV Lagoon. The ships have cafeteria, snack bars, doctor on call, entertainments and upper-deck promenade. Ship facilities include three independent galleys, halls, recreation place. While planning your travel itinerary please provide a day at Kochi, both one way to Lakshadweep and on the way back. Ship programmes/Itineraries are subject to change without notice due to ships arrival / departure or other unforeseen reasons.

Once Schedule is announced: Up to 4 person’s bookings, island getaways take only 50% amount as advance. For bookings with travel dates within 10 days and booking above 4 persons, 100% advance payment has to be made.

How to Book VIP Quota Seats in Samudram Package 2021?

Cost of VIP/ Tatkal Quota ( Diamond class only)  : Rs. 35000/ Adult & Rs. 27000/ Child ( 1-10 years).

Apply with filled application form and 10% Advance. Final chart will be prepared between 60-15 days prior to travel date. If customer gets the confirmation will be intimated once the chart is prepared and has to pay balance 90% amount within next 24 hrs to get the tickets. If customer is not selected after final chart preparation remitted 10% advance will be refunded within next 2 working days.

How to Book Waiting List Seats in Samudram Package 2021?

Some Specially reserved un booked tickets  if any kept by administration will be released to agents quota 10 to 12 days before the travel date. So Customers do have a chance to get such tickets at last moments by registering under waiting list tickets with travel agents. For trying to book for Samudram tickets under Waiting list, customers can register with us with 10% advance payment. If any vacancy comes it will be intimated and tickets can be booked with balance payment on the spot. If we are unable to get the tickets 100% amount will be refunded within 3 working days.

LTC / LTA Structure for Lakshadweep Samudram Ship Package 2021:

Samudram Package Passengers can avail an LTC/ LTA certificate from SPORTS (Government of India) for an equivalent amount of Rs. 18000 + 5% GST / adult (Rs. 14000+ 5% Tax for kids) for Diamond Class  and Rs. 12000 + 5% GST / adult (Rs. 10000+ 5% Tax for kids) in Gold Class . They can submit with their working company (both private and government) and re reimburse the same amount if the firm gives LTC/ LTA for the employees.

What is the difference between Diamond Class and Gold Class in Samudram Package?

Many passengers ask the same question. Actually, Diamond class refers to the first class cabin in ship with maximum 2 members per cabin. These first class cabins are in 4 th  and 5 th  deck of the ship. Whereas the Gold class refers to the second class cabin in ship with maximum 4 members per cabin. These first class cabins are in 3rd deck of the ship. Both class cabins will have an attached toilet. 84 cabins are available for Diamond class with 168 seats and only 3 cabins with 12 seats are available for Gold class and hence the availability for Gold class will be very tight always. Also Gold class cabins are small and crowded compared to Diamond class. Rest all the package facilities are same for Diamond and Gold classes.

The Package is a Five-Day cruise (For Indian Nationals and Foreigners can avail this package) which takes tourists to three islands in Lakshadweep – Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Minicoy, for day excursions and water sports.

During the day, Lunch, Refreshments and Entertainments will be provided ashore

Lakshadweep Samudram is a Five-days cruise to visit the islands of Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Minicoy by ship- M.V Kavaratti. Bangaram Island, spread over 120 acres is uninhabited except for occasional visitors from the nearby island of Agatti, where the airport is situated. The island is surrounded by a shallow lagoon enclosed by coral reef. It has been ranked among the best getaways of the world. A matchless sense of well-being takes over and one begins to discover the graceful fishers, porcupines, parrots, Pufferfishes, Hermit Crabs and Seabirds on the vast 120 acres of lush coconut groves in Bangaram. There are numerous adventures like scuba diving, beach games, swimming, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing. It is literally like staying on one of your own private islands. Thinnakara island is situated just opposite side of Bangaram island and share the vast lagoon and coralline banks, the actual lagoon area amounts to 125.21 Sq kms. On the north-south edge of the lagoon Parali i, Parali ii, Parali iii and Kalpitty are situated. Thinnakara is a tiny teardrop shaped island which lies 8 km northeast from Agatti. The panorama encompasses magnificent lagoons, sylvan sea shores, sun drenched sand and the enchantment of swaying palms, spectacular marine flora and fauna. Watersports crafts like kayaks, glass bottomed boats are available here. You can play beach volleyball and there are vast beach for sunbath.

• Kadmat Island Resort : For a non-AC room, you'll have to spend Rs 5,000 for double occupancy and Rs 3,000 for single occupancy per night. The range goes up to Rs 11,000 for double occupancy and Rs 8,000 for single occupancy if you choose the super deluxe AC room. 
• Kavaratti Island Resort : The only option available here is an air-conditioned suite. It is priced at Rs 11,000 per night on single and double occupancy. 
• Thinnakkara Island Resort : You will get to stay in a non-AC tent here. It will cost you Rs 10,000 for double occupancy, and Rs 8,000 for single occupancy per night.

Is visiting Lakshadweep expensive? It depends on your budget.

Submerging into the azure waters off Agatti Island — a marine tapestry, alive with colours and movements that seemed like a choreographed dance of nature — unfurled beneath us. Beholding schools of fish darting around with their scales reflecting the sunlight filtering through the water’s surface, we snorkelled effortlessly and fearlessly in awe.

The coral reefs below us were a living canvas, painted with hues of red, orange and purple, hosting a myriad of creatures going about their daily lives. For our favourite shall remain the big old sea turtle who glided gracefully by in its serene demeanour. These thoughts were etched in our memory long after we stepped away from the crystal-clear waters of this 7.6 km-long island situated on a coral atoll.

Popping the local coconut halwa into our mouth, we hopped into a tourist auto to discover the plam-clad destination that shares an uncanny resemblance to what Karnataka’s coastal town Udupi has to offer. And our favourite spots include the renowned Golden Jubilee Museum uncovered a vast collection of ancient jars, wooden chests and gold coins, along with busts of Lord Buddha from the 9th to 12th centuries.

While the ICAR — National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources showcases Ocellaris Clownfish and Amphiprion Ocellaris, among others, the vibrant Andhaan Beach in Lakshadweep is the place to have some laid-back time with swings, hammocks and photo booths or to munch on some quick snacks at the stalls.

Despite time constraints, we managed to squeeze in one final visit to Lagoon Beach, where the waters were so mesmerisingly blue that you will simply loose track of time.

Having crossed off everything we had on the list besides shopping, we stepped into a Tangerine tender boat that drove toward The Empress Ship better known as the Cordelia Cruise. Quickly dropping off the beach essentials tote in our premium cabin, we headed straight for the food court to grab a quick bite and savoured it along with the last few glimpses of this Union Territory for which we had sailed to from Kochi. And glad we did since their land excursion package saved us from having to go through the tedious process of seeking an entry permit.

As the sun sank into the horizon and the island disappeared from our field of vision, we headed down to Deck 5 which housed Chopstix, their Pan-Asian speciality restaurant, purposefully making our way through The Chairman’s Club that brought ’90s music back to life.

Now who wouldn’t enjoy some fine salmon sushi paired with red wine when sailing smoothly across the ocean and so did we. But the hero of the evening wasn’t their best-selling citrus cheesecake but the lemon coriander soup that was served at the very beginning.

In this digital age of social media frenzy, many dream or even pledge to take at least one vacation which smartphones are not a part of. And on this three-night/four-day cruise vacation, we effortlessly achieved that.

Lakshadweep to Mangaluru highspeed ferry service launched for tourists

Lakshadweep nearer by five hours as mainland connectivity gets better with new ferry service that shortens the journey for tourists.

Travel by searoute from the mainland to Lakshadweep is now nearer by five hours. The highspeed vessel ‘Parali’ on Thursday ferried 160 passengers from Lakshadweep Islands to the Mangaluru old port in just seven hours compared to the earlier 13 hours on an experimental basis.

Speaking to PTI, the first batch of tourists on the ‘HSC Parali' said that it was a different experience. The new vessel has not only high-speed connectivity but is also smoother by far than the earlier vessels which are modified to ferry passengers from cargo carriers.

The Lakshadeweep Islands Tourism Development Authority formed under the Central Tourism Ministry will start the Mangalore-Lakshadweep tourist liner service after few trial runs starting from today. But we do not know how rough will be the sea once the monsoon starts. The LITDA has already ramped up the facilities at the receiving point in Kadmatt, which is the nearest port of arrival from the mainland, the officials said.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep Island earlier this year, the island administration (union territory) moved in many ways to improve the connectivity between the mainland at Kochi and at Mangaluru.

According to the officials, this is the first step and things will be easier for people of Lakshadweep to arrive in Mangaluru for several types of tourism including the western ghats eco tourism, educational, health and recreation tourism in the mainland.

Karnataka, part of the mainland, and Lakshadweep share a common history since 1783 as it was Hyder Ali and Tippu Sultan who protected the entry of mainland marauders into Lakshadweep Islands and prevented them from pillaging the island paradise.

But after 1799, when Tippu Sultan died in Srirangapatnam near Mysore, the people of Lakshadweep lost their freedom again as the British conquered the islands.

The beautiful cluster of small islands, Lakshadweep is one of the world’s most spectacular tropical island systems. Thirty two sq km of land spread over 36 islands surrounded by 4,200 sq km of lagoon is rich in marine wealth. The heritage of ecology and culture is supported by an extremely fragile ecosystem.

Committed to the cause of eco tourism, Union Territory of Lakshadweep has consciously followed a middle path between tourism promotion and environmental conservation. The administration is carefully monitoring the environmental impact of coastal tourism and has taken steps to promote tourism in a way that is consistent with ecological concerns.

The first passenger Vessel ‘M.V.Aminidevi’ had set sail for Kadmatt island in Lakshadweep Islands on 6 November with 150 tourists in 2010. "This had opened a new horizons in tourism for Karnataka. Earlier this circuit was very circuitous for the people in the interior parts of Karnataka, but the new initiative will help high value tourists from Bangalore, Mysore, Panaji, Mumbai to use Mangalore as a port of departure to Lakshadweep.

"We are now getting inquiries from Karnataka especially Bengaluru," according to Lakshadweep Island Tourism Development Authority co-ordinators in Karnataka.

The authorities had already prepared the ultra modern tourism facilities in three islands out of the nine which are closer to Mangalore in terms of navigation. The two islands of Minicoy and Kalpeni are closer to Kochi.

At Kadmatt water sports like snorkeling, kayaking, diving, cruising and a combination of tourist activities including the local and world culinary attraction has been arranged.

The authority are hoping that the tourists from Bengaluru will take advantage of this facility. Earlier they had to go to Kochi.

The IT and Business tourists can travel to Lakshadweep at a cost of ₹ 5,000 per head on this ship. The travel time is less than 14 hours and if they can squeeze in three days, we have devised a weekend package which is very rejuvenating, said an official from the Union Territory Authority of Lakshadweep Islands.

Earlier, only a cargo ship ‘Tipu Sultan’ was plying between the Islands and the mainland. This route is stated to be one of the oldest in the Indian maritime history.

Accommodations in Minicoy, Kalpeni, Kadmatt, Aminidevi are limited and the ship will take tourists only when there is accommodation available on the islands. However, the rush has already begun as tourists from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Baroda, and other places are booking their seats. They will treat Mangaluru as a port of departure, according to officials.
