Tour de Brisbane

tours in brisbane 2023

The Tour de Brisbane is an urban event hosted in Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city. The ride is the first of its kind in Australia, with a start and finish in the city center (South Bank) featuring 110km of fully closed city roads. With five technical turns, four expressways, three tunnels, two bridges, and one major mountain climb – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride in the Sunshine State of Queensland.

Enhance your Tour de Brisbane experience by taking time to explore the city. Brisbane is geared for the great outdoors with blockbuster events, adventure activities and mouth-watering food. Climb the Story Bridge, cuddle a koala, browse a world-class exhibition, explore craft breweries, cruise or kayak the river or go rock climbing and abseiling with the city as your backdrop.

Make the most of the city’s extensive network of bikeways and shared pathways, with weather that makes cycling a joy all year round. The CityCycle scheme allows you to hire bicycles from stations dotted throughout the city, enabling you to use peddle power to see the sights.

Or join a dedicated cycling tour and discover beautiful bikeways by the river and lush parklands while getting inside information on what makes Brisbane tick. Hit the central business district and take a walking tour that takes in the city’s laneways, fascinating public art and hidden secrets.

Across the river, take a dip in the iconic Streets Beach swimming lagoon, dine at a waterfront restaurant or explore the eye-opening, family-friendly exhibitions and interactive displays in the museums and galleries of the Cultural Precinct – or enjoy a show at the performing arts centre.

Just offshore, cruise across pristine Moreton Bay to discover an island paradise where snorkelling sunken wrecks, sand boarding, surfing, fishing, 4WD-tours, kayaking, wildlife spotting and glamping adventures await. Head inland from Brisbane and discover stunning mountain ranges, World Heritage-listed rainforests, fresh produce and authentic farm experiences.

The Tour de Brisbane is part of the Brisbane Cycling Festival. Find out more at  http://www.visitbrisbane.com.au/   or  https://brisbanecyclingfestival.com/  or  http://www.queensland.com

The Tour de Brisbane Gran Fondo starts in the heart of Brisbane at Gregory Terrace and the Brisbane Showgrounds, and begins with a loop through the city, crossing the Brisbane River.

The first part going south out of the city is totally flat on big major roads before returning to the city where the main difficulty of the day is waiting for you : Mount Coot-tha, a 2km climb at 9% with a top at only 16km before the finish. After the downhill, there are only a few kilometers left. Total elevation is 1250m.

Based in the city centre, there’s easy access to the airport, hotels and all the amenities. There’s no better time to come and join the world for a bike ride down under.

The time trial is held in Mount Walker, one hour southwest of Brisbane on a 17.7km out-and-back loop on a flat and fast straight road with a U-turn halfway.  It also doubles as the Oceania time trial Championships.

OMAR APOLLO

Australian tour july 2024.

tours in brisbane 2023

Handsome Tours, Astral People, Laneway Presents and triple j are pleased to present the return of Omar Apollo !

Two years on from the release of his debut album ‘Ivory’,  Omar Apollo  has returned with a slinky and addictive new offering in ‘Spite’, which – according to Omar himself – is “a song about a long-distance relationship and wanting to reassure the other person that you’re okay.” After recently heading to socials to tease “LP2”, it seems there’s new music on the horizon. Traversing the bounds of genre and language in his songs,  Omar Apollo  captures the adventurous spirit that this multi-hyphenate moment in pop demands. The singer-songwriter’s fluid musical flair, coupled with his soul-baring balladry, has garnered him a number of industry accolades: including a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist, two Latin GRAMMY nominations for Record of the Year and Best Alternative Song (“Te Olvidaste,” with C. Tangana). With the release of Ivory, Apollo’s eclectic 2022 debut, his hit single “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me at All)” was certified platinum, and became his first showing on the Billboard Hot 100. Released independently and written in Spanglish, his 2018 EP Stereo, followed by 2019’s Friends, scored him a deal with Warner Records in 2019. The deal yielded two more projects: 2020’s Apolonio and 2023’s Live for Me. Blending techniques he learned from R&B, indie rock and Latin music, Apollo continued to flex his versatility in sensational live performances, including on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, NPR’s Tiny Desk series and Coachella. Omar Apollo  is a true visionary, whose one-of-a-kind pop synthesis unites listeners from all walks of life in a shared passion for rhythm and soul. His Australian debut in early 2020 feels like a lifetime ago, and for Apollo, it practically is. The bedroom pop artist is now touring the world, captivating audiences everywhere. Omar Apollo is more than ready to give Australia his all this winter.

The Zoo, one of Australia's most revered live music venues, to close down in July

A band on stage at music venue The Zoo in Brisbane with a large crowd watching them perform

Brisbane's The Zoo, one of Australia's most revered live music venues, will close its doors this July.

The 500-capacity venue, which opened in 1992, is one of the longest standing live music spaces in Brisbane's entertainment hub Fortitude Valley.

Over its 32 years it has played host to thousands of the biggest artists from Australia and beyond, with everyone from Powderfinger to Pixies gracing its stage.

In a statement posted to social media this morning, the venue said that it would close as it is no longer financially viable.

"Sadly, the financial reality of keeping music venues afloat in 2024 is all too stark," the statement reads.

"The Zoo reached its highest ticket sales in its 32-year history last year, yet this was still not enough to combat rising operational costs and decreasing returns."

Venue operators say they have been unable to find the support required to keep the venue afloat.

"The hard truth is that we've been running at a loss for over three years," the statement continues.

"Despite exploring every avenue available to us, we could not secure the level of support needed to surmount the continued financial strain.

"We have no choice but to call last drinks for both of our beloved music venues."

Lorde, bathed in red light, sings into a microphone on stage

The owner of the venue also runs Stranded Bar, a cocktail bar and 250-capacity venue next door, which will close from Monday.

The Zoo was the brainchild of young Brisbane women Joc Curran and C Smith. Curran ran the venue until 2016. Current owner Shane Chidgzey took over the venue in 2020.

Attending a gig at The Zoo has been a rite of passage for just about every music fan in Brisbane over the past three decades, and scoring a spot on its stage is a boon for local and touring bands alike.

The news of the venue's closure has prompted an outpouring of sadness from both fans and artists.

"I have had so many amazing nights watching my favourite bands at The Zoo and have played one my favourite shows to date there," Brisbane artist Tia Gostelow wrote on social media.

"I'm so sorry to hear this. The Zoo is so important to the scene," wrote Megan Washington.

In a 2023 report, venue owners around the country told the ABC that small- to medium-sized venues were facing a crisis.

Increased operating costs, the rising cost of living, an influx of high-profile and high-cost international tours, and a cultural shift that has seen young audiences spending less money over the bar have made staying financially viable more challenging than ever.

The Zoo will close its doors for good on Monday July 8. Those holding tickets for concerts after that date will hear from the venue or concert promoters soon.

Curvy Roofed Eco-Home in the San Francisco Bay Area Sweeps Onto the Market for $2.75M

Modern luxury and environmentally friendly living come together in one stunning package in Brisbane, CA . The eye-popping design is listed for $2,750,000.

The three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 2,396-square-foot, forward-thinking residence on a 3,000-square-foot lot was completed in 2023.

“The home is all-electric and is solar powered,” explains listing agent Michele Jauregui , with Voyage Real Estate. “At the same time, the home is truly an artistic piece. The sweeping curves of the metal roof really catch everyone’s attention, and the huge windows inside offer amazing views of San Bruno Mountain.”

The home was designed by California architect Fred Herring of Herring & Worley. Herring is known for contemporary designs featuring sleek curves and high-end finishes, much like the one on the market.

Jauregui explains that the three-level residence was designed to blend modern design with sustainability. The amazing views are a bonus—and the indoor-outdoor flow of the open-concept design, with two decks, allows residents and their guests to take full advantage of the classic California lifestyle.

The main level consists of the living area, dining space, and chef’s kitchen.

“The kitchen is all-electric with quartz countertops and Bosch stainless-steel appliances,” Jauregui says. “Hardwood floors, travertine tile, and custom built-in cabinets and closets and bifold doors in the living room offer unique touches and style.”

Massive double-pane windows and doors bring in sunlight and conserve energy.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, a full bath, and a laundry area. The beautifully appointed top-floor primary suite offers a private deck that looks to San Bruno Mountain.

There is an additional rear deck set into the hillside, and the lower level offers a media and family room with heated flooring.

The home is an easy commute from downtown San Francisco and the San Francisco International Airport. There’s a free shuttle to public transit. Amenities within a short drive include a library, excellent shopping, farm-to-table dining, hikes in the mountains, and a community pool and park system.

Jauregui sees this one-of-a-kind home as “especially ideal for a young couple or family, a creative person who wants the feel of nature and convenience of the city, or a tech executive, because it is so close to so many tech hubs.”
