This online service is not applicable to extension of stay application of visitor. If required, you may apply via this website .

Rep.), Ivory Coast, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Moldova, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Korea, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Viet Nam, and Yemen.

The Hong Kong Visit/Transit visa serves as the country’s tourist visa. It is issued to travelers who plan to stay in Hong Kong for a short visit to engage in non-lucrative activities like tourism, visiting family, or attending a conference or cultural event. It can also be obtained for travelers transiting through Hong Kong on their way to another destination.

The validity and duration of stay will depend on the applicant’s nationality. Holders of this visa type are not permitted to take up employment, engage in business activities, or study in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Tourist Visa Requirements

To apply for a Hong Kong tourist visa, all applicants must provide the following documents:

The applicant should hold a valid passport or travel document.

Applicants should complete the tourist visa application form accurately with all the required personal and travel details.

The photo should be attached to the first page of the application form.

Photocopies must clearly show the identification information located in the applicant’s travel document or passport including the date of issue, date of expiry, and any re-entry visa if applicable.

These documents, such as bank statements, tax receipts, or pay slips, must show the applicant’s financial standing.

This might include flight arrangements or any other transportation.

Travelers who intend to engage in tourism or leisure should submit their complete travel itinerary for the duration of their stay in Hong Kong.

Other documents may apply depending on the applicant’s purpose of travel. If they intend to visit family, conduct any minor business activities, or any other purpose, they must show proof of the activity. In some cases, a sponsor (company or individual) may be required. In that case, the sponsor must submit the relevant documents on the applicant’s behalf including an Application for Entry for Visit/Transit (Sponsor) form ID 1003B and a photocopy of either a Business Registration Certificate (company) or a Hong Kong identity card and passport (individual).

Applying for a Hong Kong tourist visa can be completed by following a few simple steps. Applicants can follow these steps to submit their visa application and required materials: 

Applicants should collect all the required documents for their specific purpose of travel.

Visa application forms and required materials can be submitted online through the official immigration portal , by post, or in person at a Hong Kong embassy or consulate.

If their application is approved, applicants will receive a link to complete the visa payment. They can pay online or in person at the nearest Hong Kong embassy or consulate. The payment method will depend on where they submit the visa application.

Once the application is submitted and the payment completed, approved visas will be sent to the applicant as an eVisa by email. The eVisa can be downloaded and printed by the new visa holder on their own. In some cases, if the applicant pays in person at a Hong Kong foreign mission (embassy or consulate), they will receive the eVisa as a PDF directly.

A Hong Kong tourist visa will cost $230. Visa fees can be paid using a variety of methods depending on where they submit the application. If the application is submitted online and approved, the applicant will receive an email with a link for payment. Payment can be made through the link, using a credit/debit card, Payment by Phone Service (PPS), or Faster Payment System (FPS).

Applicants can pay their visa fees in person at the nearest embassy or consulate. The payment method will vary depending on the embassy or consulate where they submit the application.

Applicants can submit their applications directly online through the Immigration Department website . They can also submit their application materials in person at the nearest embassy or consulate, or they can send the application by post to the relevant office.

It will take around four (4) weeks to process a Hong Kong tourist visa. Applicants should be sure to allocate enough time for their visa application when making their travel plans.

If the Hong Kong tourist visa application is approved, the applicant will be sent a link for payment. After payment is complete they will receive the tourist eVisa by email. This document can be downloaded and printed by the visa holder. If the applicant chooses to pay in person at a foreign mission, they will be given the eVisa after making payment.

In some cases, it is possible to extend a Hong Kong Visit/Transit visa (for tourism purposes). There must be a special or urgent reason for the visa holder to apply for an extension. They must apply within 14 days of the expiry date of their original visa.

Applicants for a visa extension must be physically present in Hong Kong. They must be visitors and not in Hong Kong for other non-immigrant purposes.

Most applicants will submit their extension requests online. For those who cannot, applications for the extension can be submitted at the following office address: Extension Section, 5/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai (Tel: (852) 2829 3100).

A Hong Kong tourist visa is a travel document that allows foreign nationals to travel legally to Hong Kong provided they meet the eligibility requirements, submit all documents, and pay the visa fee.

A passport of 6 months validity is necessary for both visa and visa-free entry.

Moreover, most countries have visa-free access to Hong Kong while other countries have to have a visa to enter Hong Kong. Such countries need visas even for their transit flight from Hong Kong.

Visa Exempt Policy Of Hong Kong 

HKSAR governments exercise rights over their immigration control. It maintains a pre-entry immigration examination as it allows visa-free entry to over 145 countries with a stay period of 7 to 180 days . 

Some of the visa-exempt countries are as follows:

Turkey , Tunisia , the United Arab Emirates , and Zimbabwe are also included in visa-exempt countries. All these and some other countries do not necessarily need visas for entering Hong Kong. 

However, some of these countries such as India might need Pre-arrival registration ( PAR) to enter Hong Kong. PAR will be discussed below in the article.

Countries That Require A Visa To Enter Hong Kong

Almost 19 countries that are not allowed visa-free entry are required to have a Hong Kong visa even for a transit flight . Some of these counties are as follows:

Types Of Visa For Hong Kong

• Visa-Free Entry : Many countries, such as those mentioned above, do not require a visa to enter Hong Kong, especially for tourism purposes. Such foreign nationals can stay for 7 to 180 days in Hong Kong depending on their nationalities.
• On-Arrival Visa : Some countries that require a visa to enter Hong Kong can obtain an on-arrival visa that provides a stay of 7 to 14 days .
• Pre-Arrival Registration (PAR) : Countries not eligible for visa-free entry or on-arrival visas need to apply for PAR online before the journey. This allows a stay of up to 14 days in Hong Kong.
• Employment visa: This visa type is required for general employment purposes , businesses, or start-ups etc.
• Study visa: This visa type is specifically for students who wish to study in Hong Kong.
• Residence visa: This visa is for someone who wants to permanently reside in Hong Kong and wishes to have the nationality of Hong Kong.

Requirements Of A Tourist Visa

Visitors should be able to have adequate funds for their visit and for the duration of their stay without working . A valid passport with a validity of 6 months is necessary.

The law of Hong Kong does not allow the visitor, having a visiting visa, to take part in any kind of employment , do any kind of business, or enroll in any educational institution as a student.

Visa Application is required by the nationals of those countries that are not exempted by the Hong Kong government.

Hence, a visa is applied by such nationals at the Hong Kong immigration , embassy , or Chinese consulate . This visa demands proof of passport , travel history , and stable financial means .

How To Obtain A Tourist Visa For Hong Kong

Applicants or Visitors are required to apply for a visa and entry permit at either the Hong Kong immigration department , or Hong Kong embassy , or the Chinese diplomatic and counselor mission but for Indians, it is done at the immigration department directly.

Application through e-mail is not acceptable for now.

Documents Required For A Tourist Visa In Hong Kong

Hong Kong and Chinese nationals with the right to abode can enter Hong Kong without any visa . However, foreign nationals require certain documents for tourist visas or entry permits . These are as follows:

• A visa application form containing appropriate information. 
• Passport with a validity of 6 months at least.
• Passport-sized pictures with white background.
• Applicant should provide proof of stable financial means. This includes bank statements or other financial documents.
• Applicant visiting Hong Kong for business purposes or as a dependent may need a letter of invitation from a company or a resident of Hong Kong respectively.
• Applicant must provide his travel itinerary including travel plans, flight reservations or accommodation bookings.
• Applicant must provide a copy of his medical certificate or health insurance.
• A police clearance certificate from the home country.
• Additional Supporting Documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, or academic transcripts are also required depending on the circumstances or situations.

Fee Requirements For A Tourist Visa In Hong Kong

No Visa fee is charged to the visa-exempt nationals and their stay is usually ranging from 14 to 90 days, depending on their nationality. 

Visa fee is charged to the nationals of countries that are not exempted. The fee requirements for Hong Kong visas is as follows:

Processing Time For Tourist Visa Of Hong Kong

Visa processing time takes usually from 5 working days to 4 or 6 weeks.

Requirements For Hong Kong Pre-Arrival Registration

Pre-arrival registration is a document that is needed by the visitors of countries that are exempted from visas or entry permits. This allows a stay in Hong Kong without a visa for a specified period of time which is usually 14 days . 

Certain documents are required for Hong Kong PAR:

• Passport with 6 months validity.
• A Credit or a debit card , or a PayPal account for payments.

Stay Duration For Tourist Visa Of Hong Kong

Stay duration depends on the nationality of the tourist. It ranges from 7 days to, 14 days to 60 days to 90 days , and for some countries to 180 days . List of countries that are exempted and the ones that require visa can be found on the official website of Hong Kong government.

Macau nationals can stay up to 6 months visa-free. Indians can only stay for up to 14 days visa-free but they need to have Pre-arrival registration.

Extension Of Visa

Tourists can apply for an extension of stay in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong immigration department . However, Hong Kong immigration does not guarantee an extension, and if given it is for a short period of time ranging from 1 month to 90 days only.

Re-entry Permit

Hong Kong mostly provides re-entry permits only to Chinese nationals who are given the right to abode.

The people with unlimited stay in Hong Kong but cannot have a national passport of any country other than Hong Kong only can also apply for re-entry permits.

Single entry permit provides a stay of 6 months for a single journey, while multiple re-entry permit provides 5 years of stay with multiple journeys.

Hong Kong Visa for Tourists: A Comprehensive Guide

Hong Kong visa requirements are fairly clear and easy to understand. Most nationalities are exempt from having a visa. Those who need a visa can apply for one at their nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate. Indian and Taiwanese nationals must register and obtain Pre-arrival Registration prior to arrival in Hong Kong.

Transit Visa REQUIRED passport holders

Visa or Pre-arrival Registration is not needed for direct airside transit and not leaving the airport transit area.

Application Process

Pre-arrival registration (par).

India and Taiwan passport holders must complete Pre-arrival Registration (PAR) online prior to arrival in Hong Kong.

Pre-arrival Registration is required for each individual. If you are traveling as a family, each person in the family must apply for Pre-arrival Registration individually.

Pre-arrival Registration can be done online from anywhere. There are no geographical restrictions.

Each Pre-arrival Registration is linked to a specific passport. So, in the event of loss of passport or passport renewal, a new Pre-arrival Registration must be made.

Pre-arrival Registration for India passport holders

India passport holders must complete Pre-Arrival Registration online at the HK Immigration website prior to arrival in Hong Kong.

The Pre-arrival Registration is valid for 6 months or until the expiration of the passport, whichever is earlier.

The Pre-arrival Registration is for Multiple Entries. Each entry can be up to 14 days.

The following information must be provided while filling out the Pre-arrival Registration online.

• India Passport Number
• Passport Place of Issue
• Passport Date of Issue
• Passport Date of Expiry

The entered information must match exactly with the information on the passport. If any piece of information is slightly mismatched, the Pre-arrival Registration will be deemed as invalid.

NOTE Indian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Hong Kong.

You can only apply for another Pre-arrival Registration if the current one has already expired.

Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan passport holders

Taiwan passport holders must complete Pre-arrival Registration online at the HK Immigration website prior to arrival in Hong Kong.

The Pre-arrival Registration is valid for 2 months.

The Pre-arrival Registration can be used for up to 2 entries to Hong Kong. Each entry can be up to 30 days.

• Alias in Chinese and English
• Taiwan identity card number
• Taiwan re-entry travel document number and validity

NOTE The re-entry travel document must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Hong Kong.

You can apply for another Pre-arrival Registration if the existing one has already expired or 2 entries have been used.

Documentation

You do not need to upload any documentation for Pre-arrival Registration. You just have to input the required information.

There is no fee for Pre-arrival Registration. It’s free of charge.

Processing Time

The result of pre-arrival registration is immediate. A “notification slip” is generated right away.

Notification Slip

You must check the information on the notification slip for any possible errors. All information on the notification slip must match exactly with the information on the passport. Any discrepancy will deem the notification slip invalid.

You must print the notification slip on an A4 size blank white paper. You must sign the notification slip. You must present the signed notification slip along with your original passport at the first port of entry in Hong Kong.

NOTE The immigration officers at the airport will check if the data on the notification slip matches with the information on the passport. It’s extremely important to input accurate information and verify and confirm the data on the notification slip before printing and signing.

Pre-approved Visa

Application.

In order to apply for a Pre-approved Visa for Hong Kong, you would need a local sponsor in Hong Kong. A local sponsor can be a business or individual. The individual sponsor must be a Hong Kong resident and must prove their relationship with the applicant.

Hong Kong Visitor Visa can be applied in 4 ways

• In-person by your local sponsor in Hong Kong
• In-person by yourself at your nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate
• By Mail or Post

Apply In-Person by Local Sponsor

Your local sponsor can submit your application directly to the following address in Hong Kong. An original passport is NOT NEEDED in this case.

Apply In-Person by Yourself

You can submit your application along with your original passport at the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate in your country of residence.

Foreigners living in Mainland China can submit their visa application along with their original passport at the Hong Kong Immigration Division in Beijing or Shanghai.

Note for India passport holders Chinese diplomatic missions and consulates in your country of residence or anywhere WILL NOT accept Hong Kong visa applications from Indian passport holders. India passport holders must apply for a Hong Kong visa directly at the HKSAR Immigration Department in Hong Kong via sponsor, mail or fax. Alternatively, Indian passport holders can request Pre-approval Registration online for entries up to 14 days.

Apply by Mail

If applying by mail, all application forms and supporting documents must be mailed to the following address in Hong Kong. An original passport is NOT NEEDED in this case.

Apply by Fax

In order to speed up the process, the application forms and supporting documents can be faxed to the Hong Kong Immigration Department at the following number.

The immigration officials can start your Hong Kong visa process as soon as they receive the fax, but the receipt of the original documents is still required in order to issue the visa if approved. Therefore, you must airmail your original documents immediately after faxing the documents. An original passport is NOT NEEDED in this case.

• Copy of passport Id page
• Copy of visa for onward travel (not needed if returning to home country)
• Financial proof (Bank statements)
• Employment proof (Employment letter or pay slips)
• Round trip flight tickets
• Hotel reservation
• Copy of sponsor’s Hong Kong Identity card
• Copy of sponsor’s passport ID page
• Copy of the latest entry stamp in the passport or extension proof (only if the HK sponsor is a resident and not a citizen)

Note The Hong Kong Visa Application Form and Sponsor Application Form can be downloaded online or obtained from any of the Chinese diplomatic missions, consulates or HKSAR government offices.

The fee for the Hong Kong Tourist Visa is currently $190 HKD.

If sending the application to the Hong Kong Immigration Department by post, you must attach a cashier order or bank draft payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”. The cashier order or bank draft must be issued by a bank that has a connected bank in Hong Kong.

If submitting the visa application through a local sponsor, the visa fee must be paid by your sponsor in cash or by cheque. The cheque must be payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”.

If submitting the visa application in person at your nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate, the visa fee must be paid in cash.

If submitting the visa application in person at the Hong Kong Immigration Division in Beijing or Shanghai, the visa fee must be paid in cash as well.

The visa processing time is about 4 weeks from the receipt of the documents.

In order to speed up the process, the application forms and supporting documents can be faxed to the Hong Kong immigration department. The immigration officials will start your visa process as soon as they receive the fax, but the receipt of the original documents is required in order to complete the visa process. Therefore, applicants must airmail their original documents immediately after faxing the documents.

Visa Result

On successful approval of the visa, a visa sticker is generated and sent to the applicant.

If the visa application was submitted in person by your sponsor in Hong Kong, the sponsor must collect the visa sticker and mail it back to the applicant.

If the visa application was directly submitted by mail or fax, the visa sticker is mailed to the applicant directly by airmail.

The visa sticker must be affixed on a blank page in your passport and must be presented to the immigration officer at the port of entry in Hong Kong.

If the application was submitted to the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate or at the Hong Kong Immigration Division in Beijing or Shanghai, you will be notified of the visa result. You must then pick up your passport in person.

Application Withdrawal

There is no formal visa application withdrawal procedure. If you have submitted your visa application by mail/post, you can just ignore or abandon your visa application.

If you have submitted your original passport to the Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate or at the Hong Kong Immigration Division in Beijing or Shanghai, you must go in person and request your passport.

Immigration and Customs

Most airlines do not let you check in online if you need a visa to travel to the destination country.

After check-in, make sure to arrive at the gate a bit early. The airline staff at the gate sometimes would like to go through the visa requirements again.

Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the day of travel.

Unlike other countries, Hong Kong does not issue an entry stamp on your passport. Instead, you will be given a landing slip with your name, passport number, date of arrival and conditions of stay granted.

You must retain this landing slip during your entire stay in Hong Kong.

You must also fill out and present the arrival/departure card along with your passport to the immigration officer at the port of entry. The departure card will be detached and given back to you, which you must fill and present on your exit.

Pre-arrival Registration REQUIRED passport holders If you hold a Pre-arrival Registration (PAR), the immigration officer will check the data on the Pre-arrival Registration slip with the information on your passport.

On your exit, you do not need to present the landing slip. You just have to present your original passport and completed departure card.

Make sure to fill out the departure card before heading to the passport control. You will be sent back if your departure card is incomplete.

You may have to go through immigration and customs on your return to your home country or the country you are flying back to. If you are flying back on an Airbus A330/A340/A380 or Boeing 747/777, expect long lines at the immigration and customs.

FAQ: Do you need a visa to visit Hong Kong?

It depends on the country of your passport. Hong Kong offers visa EXEMPTION to quite a few nationalities. India and Taiwan must register to obtain a Pre-arrival Registration slip prior to arrival in Hong Kong. The rest of the nationalities can apply for Hong Kong tourist visas at their nearest Chinese diplomatic missions or consulates.

Hong Kong entry requirements are fairly clear. Hong Kong’s visa policy is not as strict as compared to other countries. Refer to the “Hong Kong Tourist Visa Requirements” section above to confirm if you need a visa for Hong Kong.

FAQ: How to avail Hong Kong Visa on Arrival (VoA)?

Hong Kong does not offer Visa on Arrival (VoA). If you have a visa REQUIRED passport, you must apply for the Hong Kong visa at your nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or directly from the Hong Kong immigration department in Hong Kong.

FAQ: How to apply for Hong Kong visa online?

Unfortunately, the Hong Kong visa process is not online. You can download the forms online but you must apply for the visa in person at your nearest Chinese diplomatic mission or consulate or by post directly from the Hong Kong Immigration Department in Hong Kong.

Exception: India and Taiwan passport holders can register themselves online and obtain a Pre-arrival Registration slip prior to arrival in Hong Kong.

Yes, a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong is still considered as an exit and re-entry into Hong Kong.

On Exit You will go through immigration on your departure at the ferry terminal in Hong Kong. Before boarding the ferry bound for Macau in Hong Kong, you must present your completed departure card, ferry boarding pass and original passport.

On Re-entry When you head back from Macau, on your arrival at the Hong Kong ferry terminal, you will go through immigration. You must grab and fill out the arrival/departure card at the arrival ferry terminal in Hong Kong. You must present the completed arrival/departure card, original passport, and visa or Pre-arrival Registration slip.

Re-entry is considered a fresh entry. So, you will be given a fresh entry (number of days) based on your passport. Indian nationals will get a fresh 14-day entry with their existing Pre-arrival Registration slip.

After inputting the required information, the computer system will process the registration automatically and the result will be made known to the registrant instantly. During the period of validity of the registration (six months), successful registrants may visit Hong Kong for multiple journeys, each for a stay of 14 days, by presenting the printout of the PAR notification slip (which the registrants may print immediately upon completion of the registration process) and the same Indian passport used for the registration.

Do I Need A Visa to Visit Hong Kong?

Hong Kong provides visa exemption to certain certificate owners for any purpose of visiting, and visa/ entry permit to citizens (ordinary passport holders) of 170 countries . Otherwise, you need to apply for and get a visa to go to Hong Kong as required. Note: A Chinese Visa is not valid for visiting Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, which are considered as third regions from mainland China.

Hong Kong Visa Policy

Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) operates a different visa policy from mainland China, which includes visa-free entry and visa-required cases as well. The visa-free rule varies from nationality, and permits in-equable duration of stay accordingly. If you’re required to obtain a visa/entry permit to visit Hong Kong, you shall apply for a right visa type based on your intention.

Main Hong Kong Visa Types

There are many kinds of visas/permits setting for different kinds reasons of visit to Hong Kong. The most common Hong Kong visas include Visit Visa (for travel/transit, working holiday, HKSAR travel pass, pre-arrival registration), Employment/Investment Visa (for General Employment Policy, training, imported workers, technology talent admission scheme, etc.), Study Visa , Residence and so on. Each type requires specific application documents.

Tips : 1.) If you will go to Hong Kong for tourism, you shall apply for a Hong Kong Visitor Visa (Tourist Visa), if not meeting visa-free policy. 2.) Hong Kong Work Visa (Permit) is only issued to skilled foreigners satisfying in certain programs, like GEP (General Employment Policy), Tech TAS (Technology Talent Admission Scheme), etc. 3.) Whether a Hong Kong Transit Visa is exempted depends on the visitors’ nationality.

Hong Kong Visa Free Entry

As long as you meet one of the two following visa-free situations, you can enter into and visit Hong Kong without a visa. Check the two occasions to figure out if you can get visa exempted.

(Ⅰ) Holding any of below documents allows you to enter Hong Kong without visa or entry permit for any purpose.

• ● Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
• ● Hong Kong Certificate of Identity
• ● Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport
• ● Hong Kong Seaman's Identity Book
• ● Valid Hong Kong Document of Identity for Visa Purposes within the period of validity
• ● British National (Overseas) Passport
• ● Hong Kong Re-entry permit (only for entry from mainland China or Macau)
• ● Travel documents with one of below endorsements: - Holder's eligibility for Hong Kong permanent identity card verified - Holder of this travel document has the right to land in Hong Kong. (Section 2AAA, Immigration Ordinance, Cap. 115, Laws of Hong Kong)

(Ⅱ) Citizens of 170 foreign countries (territories) may visit Hong Kong for a visa-free stay from 7 days to 180 days.

The visa-free access to Hong Kong only applies to aliens holding ordinary passport of the below listed 170 foreign countries and territories. The permitted duration of each stay is different for different nationals. Bear in mind that the visa-free entry is just valid for visit for sightseeing, conducting business activities, attending conference, participating cultural, arts or sport events, and visiting relatives and friends.

Some visa-free periods:

British Citizen - 180 days; U.S.A/Canada/Australia /Brunei/French/Germany/Japan Citizen - 90 days

Thailand/Indonesia /Qatar Citizen - 30 days; Bhutan/Philippine/Haiti/Niger Citizen - 14 days

Though Indians enjoy 14-day visa-free entry to Hong Kong, a pre-arrival registration (PAR) is required

How to Get a Hong Kong Visa?

For those don’t holding certificate or passport from170 foreign countries or territories mentioned above, a visa/entry permit is needed to travel to or transit in Hong Kong. Thus, each applicant should prepare and submit related application form, photos, visa fees and supporting documents to the Immigration Department in Hong Kong, or Chinese Embassies in foreign countries, and other authorities. Visa-free visitors who will stay beyond the entitled visa-free period and want to establish, join in any business, study, training and commercial activities are also required to apply and obtain a visa for Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Visa we introducing refers to Hong Kong Tourist (Visitor) Visa .

Hong Kong Visa Requirements:

◆ A passport which are valid for at least 6 months and has blank visa pages;

◆ A completed Hong Kong Visit/Transit Visa Application Form (applicants shall fill in Form ID 1003A & sponsor shall finish Form ID 1003B)

◆ Two recently-taken photos , and one should be attached on the application form ID 1003A;

◆ Photocopy of applicant’s passport/travel document, including information page with full name, nationality, date of birth, and visa pages with records.

◆ Travel related materials, including round-trip flight tickets, hotel reservation, documents proving purpose of the visit (invitation letter), tour plan, etc. For transit, proof of continue visiting to next destination is required.

◆ Sponsor identity and relevant certificates if is invited or go to HK for family visit.

How to Apply for Hong Kong Visa?

According to particular cases, each visitor can choose from the following 5 ways to submit visa or entry permit application for Hong Kong.

Option 1: Use the express service to send the completed application forms and all necessary documents directly to the Hong Kong Immigration Department Office. (Address: 2nd Floor, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, 香港湾仔告士打道7号入境事务大楼二楼入境事务处收发小组.)

Option 2: Submit the application materials to HK Immigration Department through a local sponsor in Hong Kong.

For the 2 ways above, it’s advised to fax the form and documents to (852) 2824 1133 as early as possible to shorten the processing time. The original completed form with photo should be send to Immigration Office by airmail at the same time. And a visa/entry permit will be issued upon receipt of original form and successfully verification.

Option 3: Submit application in person to the overseas (nearest) Chinese Embassy or diplomatic and consular mission you reside. It suits for those live close to the institutions in foreign countries. And beware some Chinese Embassies and Consulates has made China Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) to accept application and then transfer to embassy to investigate and issue.

Applicants should prepare documents as required on the offcial website of HK Immigration Department, and then take them to the CVASC office to submit directly.

Option 4 - (If you reside in Beijing, China): Apply for Hong Kong visa from the Immigration Division of the Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing, Beijing Office.

Notes: 1.）Any application through e-mails are not accepted. 2.) Hong Kong Visa Application Online service is not provided at present. 3.) For application via CVASC, applicants don’t need to fill forms and make appointments online, and collect biometric information as required for Chinese Visa.

How Much is Hong Kong Visa Fee

The acceptable payment of Hong Kong Visa fees are different in each situation.

A. For application directly mailed to HK Immigration Depart , a cashier order or bank draft (issued by bank owning connected bank in HK) need to be sent together with form and documents. Please make payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”. Never put cash in the parcel.

B. For application through sponsor in Hong Kong, the fee shall be paid by cash, EPS or check upon collection.

C. For application to other authorities, the visa/entry permit fee shall be paid directly to them. But China Visa Application Service Center charge extra service fee except the visa application costs and post fees.

How Long Does A Hong Kong Visa Take? - HK Visa Processing Time

Visa processing time largely depends on where you apply. After submission to Chinese Embassy or China Visa Application Service Center, it normally takes about 4 working days for regular processing. Express service needs approve by the embassy and will charge additional fees. However, if you ship application materials directly to HK Immigration Department, or your case will be transmitted to HK, the whole application needs to at least 4 weeks , or a month. They only begin process after receiving all required application documents. The mentioned processing time is listed for reference only.

The Tourism Board will give HK$200 vouchers to visitors from eight Chinese cities who will soon be able to come to Hong Kong under an expanded solo travel scheme , allowing them to experience the city’s “extraordinary charm.”

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Chief Executive John Lee said the vouchers could be spent at “many different types of restaurants and shops.”

“The government and the Tourism Board have prepared a series of arrangements so mainland Chinese visitors can feel like they are in a home away from home, and personally experience the extraordinary charm of Hong Kong as an international city and dining capital,” Lee said in Cantonese.

His comments came as Beijing announced on Saturday that residents of eight Chinese cities would be added to the Individual Visit Scheme . The policy allows visitors to come to Hong Kong as a solo traveller, meaning they would not need to join a tour group.

With the expansion coming into effect on May 27, the scheme will cover northern Chinese cities including Urumqi in Xinjiang, Lhasa in Tibet, and Hohhot in Inner Mongolia. Other newly-added cities include Taiyuan, Harbin, Lanzhou, Xining, and Yinchuan – all capitals of their respective provinces.

Lee said the eight cities have large populations who have high spending power. Five of them are among the top six mainland Chinese cities for GDP growth, he said, adding that the expanded scheme is estimated to attract 300,000 visitors to Hong Kong yearly.

The programme will soon cover the capitals of all Chinese provinces and autonomous regions, Lee said.

“This further fuels our mainland compatriots’ interest in visiting Hong Kong,” the leader told reporters.

He added that, as the eight cities are further from Hong Kong compared to other cities already part of the scheme, the expansion would bring more overnight visitors to the city.

‘Timely boost’ to hotels, retail sectors

The additions bring the total number of mainland cities under the Individual Visit Scheme to 59. In February, Xian and Qingdao were added to the list .

Alan Chan, the chief operations officer of hotel giant Miramar Group, said on Monday that the widening of the scheme would be a “timely boost” to local tourism-related industries, such as hotels and retail as May and June were typically low seasons.

Chan also said the residents from these eight mainland cities would be considered long-haul visitors and they would likely stay overnight in Hong Kong, unlike travellers from nearby cities such as Shenzhen and Zhuhai, who might opt for day trips.

Lee said on Tuesday that – out of the eight cities – only four of them had direct flights to Hong Kong. The Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Airport Authority were discussing with airlines to possibility of enhancing flight services between Hong Kong and the cities, he added.

Flights between Hong Kong and Harbin, and Hong Kong and Urumqi, would increase next week, Lee said he had learned.

Hong Kong has been struggling to win back tourists since all Covid-related travel curbs were lifted early last year. The pace of international tourist arrivals to Hong Kong has resumed at a much slower rate than that of mainland Chinese tourists.

The city welcomed almost 3.4 million visitors in April, according to provisional figures released by the Tourism Board on Tuesday. Though it represents a 17.3 per cent increase compared to last April, the number of arrivals still lags behind the figures seen before the city enacted Covid-19 travel restrictions in 2020.

• Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals

This webpage provides information to nationals of the Republic of India (Indian nationals) who wish to apply for pre-arrival registration through the online “Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals” (the online service) to visit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Indian nationals must apply for and successfully complete pre-arrival registration online before they can visit or transit the HKSAR visa-free (if seeking to enter the HKSAR during transit).  Pre-arrival registration is not required for Indian nationals in direct transit by air and not leaving the airport transit area.  An Indian national can make use of the online service to apply for pre-arrival registration free of charge if he/she:

• holds an Indian passport valid for at least six months; and
• intends to visit or transit (except in direct transit by air and not leaving the airport transit area) the HKSAR for a stay not exceeding 14 days. Pre-arrival registration is not applicable to Indian nationals who have the right of abode or the right to land in the HKSAR, are on unconditional stay in the HKSAR or have a valid permission to remain in the HKSAR for employment, study or residence.

Subject to normal immigration requirements being met, the following categories of Indian nationals may visit the HKSAR without pre-arrival registration:

• holders of a valid Indian diplomatic or official passport;
• holders of United Nations Laissez Passer coming to the HKSAR or transiting the HKSAR to/from a third place for official United Nations business;
• those who have successfully enrolled for e-Channel service for frequent visitors ( NOTE : Please click here for online enquiry of the validity of the enrolment for e-Channel service for frequent visitors and printing of the “Record of enrolment for e-Channel service for frequent visitors”.) Before boarding a conveyance (a ship, aircraft, vehicle or any other means whatsoever of travel or transport) bound for the HKSAR, an enrolee may present the “Record of enrolment for e-Channel service for frequent visitors” together with the specific and valid Indian passport which he/she has used for the enrolment to transport operators as proof of valid enrolment for e-Channel service for frequent visitors. Upon the expiry of the validity of the enrolment for e-Channel service for frequent visitors, or if the passport that is linked to the enrolment expires or becomes invalid for any reason, an enrolee’s eligibility for e-Channel service for frequent visitors will lapse immediately. In such circumstances, he/she must apply for and successfully complete pre-arrival registration before visiting the HKSAR again.);
• holders of a valid HKSAR Travel Pass; and
• those who have obtained a valid entry visa for the HKSAR.

Indian nationals who are a member of operating aircrew or operating seacrew on board vessels, or a contract seaman may also come to the HKSAR without pre-arrival registration, subject to normal immigration requirements being met.

An Indian national must apply for an appropriate visa to the Immigration Department if he/she:

• intends to visit the HKSAR for a stay exceeding 14 days; or
• intends to come to the HKSAR for a purpose other than visit (e.g. employment, study, or take up residence in the HKSAR).

The registrant should visit the designated GovHK website for pre-arrival registration. The registrant must truthfully enter the correct information. The information the registrant provides in the pre-arrival registration needs to be exactly the same as it appears in his/her Indian passport. After inputting the required information, the computer system will process the registration automatically. The registration result will be made known to the registrant instantly.

The successful registrant must print the “Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals” (the notification slip) generated by the computer system on a sheet of blank A4 white paper.

The notification slip must be signed. The registrant must check the inputted data on the notification slip to confirm it is correct and exactly the same as it appears on the specific Indian passport that he/she has used to apply for pre-arrival registration successfully before signing the slip. The notification slip must be used in conjunction with the specific Indian passport that is linked to the pre-arrival registration. In case the registrant renews or replaces his/her Indian passport or changes his/her personal particulars after pre-arrival registration, the registrant must re-apply on the strength of the new passport or personal particulars. For a registrant who is under 16 years of age, either his/her parent or legal guardian must check the inputted data and sign the slip.

In case the pre-arrival registration cannot be completed, an Indian national must apply for an  entry visa to the Immigration Department if he/she intends to visit the HKSAR. Such applications must be submitted directly to the Immigration Department. Chinese diplomatic and consular missions will not accept visit visa applications from Indian nationals.

A pre-arrival registration is valid for six months. Subject to meeting normal immigration requirements, a registrant may, during the validity of the pre-arrival registration, use a valid notification slip together with the specific and valid Indian passport linked to the successful pre-arrival registration to make multiple visits to the HKSAR visa-free.  On each visit, a registrant may stay in the HKSAR for up to 14 days.

The registrant will be allowed to make a new registration only when the current registration has expired.

The registrant may check the validity of the registration through the “ Pre-arrival Registration Validity Enquiry ” function of the online service. Alternatively, the registrant may make use of the  Hong Kong Immigration Department Mobile App to conduct the validity check.

In case the notification slip is lost, defaced, damaged or not printed on a sheet of blank A4 white paper, the registrant is required to reprint the notification slip through the ” View/Print Registration Notification Slip ” function of the online service on his/her own. To use this function, the registrant is required to input the exact answer to the Identification Question selected during the registration process, failing which he/she will not be able to view or reprint the notification slip. The answer to the Identification Question CANNOT be reset. The registrant may save a copy of the notification slip in a secure location for future reference.

Before boarding a conveyance (a ship, aircraft, vehicle or any other means whatsoever of travel or transport) bound for the HKSAR, transport operators will check whether the registrant has a valid travel document. In this connection, before boarding and upon arrival immigration clearance in the HKSAR, the registrant must hold the notification slip, and the same and valid Indian passport that he/she has used to successfully apply for pre-arrival registration. Failure to present the said two documents will lead to refusal of his/her boarding a conveyance bound for the HKSAR and refusal of entry to the HKSAR upon arrival.

The issue of the notification slip is not a guarantee of the registrant’s entry to the HKSAR. The registrant is still subject to immigration control under the provisions of the Immigration Ordinance, Chapter 115, Laws of Hong Kong. In general, a person who intends to enter the HKSAR for visit must fulfil normal immigration requirements (such as holding a valid travel document with adequate returnability to his/her country of residence or citizenship; raise no security or criminal concerns to the HKSAR; have no likelihood of becoming a burden on the HKSAR, etc.), have a bona fide purpose of visit, have adequate funds to cover the duration of his/her stay without working and hold onward or return tickets (unless in transit to the Mainland of China or the Macao Special Administrative Region), before entry to the HKSAR may be granted.

If the registrant is granted permission to land in the HKSAR, he/she will be issued with a landing slip containing his/her name, Indian passport number and the conditions and limit of stay in the HKSAR.

A person admitted as a visitor in the HKSAR is not allowed to take any employment, whether paid or unpaid; establish or join in any business; or become a student at a school, university or other educational institution in the HKSAR.

When applying for pre-arrival registration, the registrant must truthfully enter the correct information.  The information the registrant provides in the pre-arrival registration needs to be exactly the same as it appears in his/her passport and he/she must use the same passport that is linked to it when visiting the HKSAR.   Failure to do so will render his/her pre-arrival registration invalid.  An invalid pre-arrival registration will lead to refusal of the registrant’s boarding of a conveyance (a ship, aircraft, vehicle or any other means whatsoever of travel or transport) bound for the HKSAR and refusal of entry to the HKSAR upon arrival.

Any person who knowingly and wilfully makes a statement or gives information which he/she knows to be false or does not believe to be true may be liable for prosecution under the Laws of Hong Kong.
