2023 Unmasking the Horror 3-House Tour House Review and Secrets
Now that you know what to expect, let’s go over the breakdown of each maze on the 3-house tour.
1. The Last of Us
This Halloween Horror Nights house was one of the more anticipated ones for my group.
However, we were not allowed to take many photos of this Intellectual Property.
I did try really hard to get the most photos that I could so that you could see all of the cool props in The Last of Us HHN house with the lights on.
Unfortunately, there were only three to four rooms (from my memory) that I was allowed to take pictures of.
Storyline of The Last of Us HHN House
This video game, by Naughty Dog and PlayStation, takes place in a world that’s been completely destroyed.
It’s like you’re right there with Joel and Ellie , the main characters. They’re trying to survive in a world that’s been completely wrecked by a super scary fungal virus.
This virus turns people into these really freaky creatures called the Infected.
In this Halloween Horror Nights house, you’ll encounter all sorts of these insane creatures like the Infected Runners, Stalkers, and Clickers.
And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also this group of not-so-nice humans called The Hunters. They’re all stuck in this Pittsburgh Quarantine Zone, fighting to escape and stay alive.
It’s a wild ride, my fellow Hipster!
Secrets of The Last of Us Halloween Horror Nights House
The team at Universal joined with Naughty Dog and you can see that in every detail of the house.
If you’re a fan of this game, then you’ll see so many familiar things from your own game experience directly inside this HHN maze.
I’m referring to all of the street art, and even that Firefly emblem. Plus, they included a few subtle references to elements from the game, such as the:
- Station where you can upgrade your arsenal
- Meds/pill boxes
- Graffiti on the walls
- Bullet holes
As you can see, there’s lots of open space in this house to showcase the magnitude of this franchise and the over-the-top set design and scares!
In one of the final scenes you come face-to-face with the Bloater as Joel is trying to take him out.
Overall, this house is made for the fans of The Last of Us and anyone who’s into HHN houses that feels more like a production.

2. The Darkest Deal
Now I’m going into the second house that was on the 2023 Unmasking the Horror Tour at Universal Studios, The Darkest Deal.
From the beginning of the announcement from Universal, I was interested in the “selling your soul to the devil” concept that you hear in folklore surrounding celebrities.
Storyline of The Darkest Deal HHN House
Imagine a scenario where the talented blues musician, Pinestraw Spruce, finds himself at a significant intersection – both metaphorically and literally!
At this particular crossroads, he comes face-to-face with a truly wicked entity known as The Collector.
The Collector presents Pinestraw with an offer: the chance to achieve musical greatness, but at an immense cost.
Pinestraw will have the opportunity to perform for a captivated audience, showcasing his extraordinary talent.
However, there’s a catch – once his performance concludes, The Collector will appear to claim his soul, leading him down to the underworld.
Pinestraw won’t be the only one facing this spine-chilling predicament.
Other musicians have also experienced the horrifying consequences of seeking fame through The Darkest Deal.
Secrets of The Darkest Deal Halloween Horror Nights House
The exterior of this spooky house is the Barrel House in its current state, a place where Pinestraw used to have fun until it all changed.
At the start of the haunted house, there is a particularly fascinating scene where you enter a simulated cornfield.
A Pinestraw Spruce figure is positioned there, alongside an actor assuming the role of The Collector.
An intriguing interaction takes place where Pinestraw signs away his soul, showcasing the setup of the haunted house right before your eyes.
Scarecrows and Cornfields at Halloween Horror Nights
According to my tour guide, Kelly, there is a widely known tale about corn and Halloween Horror Nights.
Every time they have planted corn for the event, a powerful hurricane has coincidentally struck.
The initial occurrence happened in 2004 for a scare zone called Field of Screams.
The second instance was in 2017 with Scarecrow the Reaping , which is located in the same area as this haunted house.
Since then, organizers have decided to abstain from planting real corn at the event.
More Tragedy to Unmask in This Halloween Horror Nights House
Now we’re on to the next room that serves as the entrance where we admired the performance of Pinestraw Spruce.
Inside this haunted house, you will find a variety of interesting items especially with the references to Dr. Oddfellow.
One particular connection to Oddfellow is seen here by the presence of characters and monsters wearing masks adorned with Dr. Oddfellows’ symbol on their foreheads.
Additionally, the bourbon bottle (and this scene in general) is directly linked to the Case Files Unearthed Haunted House from HHN 30 in the Kitty Kat Club section.
The Collector’s Mausoleum AKA 27 Club
Now we have reached the mausoleum section of the haunted house.
Here, you will encounter the eerie revelation that other musicians who have accepted the collector’s deal have met a tragic end and transformed into spooky zombies.
Interestingly, Kelly shared a fascinating fact about these musicians – they all passed away at the age of 27.
The number 27 holds great significance in the music world, as it is associated with the infamous “27 Club” where numerous renowned musicians, including Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, and Jimmy Hendrix, tragically perished.
Pinestraw Spruce also met the same fate at the age of 27.
Things Get Darker…
Next is the transition part of The Darkest Deal house.
During the run of the house at night you can’t really see it, but there’s actually a big old alligator in this maze that lets you know you’re somewhere down in the Delta.
After spotting the alligator, you’ll see Pinestraw’s mother engaged in the act of stirring a rather repugnant concoction within a pot.
Time for The Collector to Cash in On His Investment…
This upcoming section will transport you to the vibrant streets of New Orleans.
Prepare yourself to enter The Barrel House, a room characterized by its spaciousness.
What makes it truly fascinating is that The Collector can be found throughout this haunted house, even incorporated into the designs letting you know that he’s always watching.
Check out the Southern Delight Spirit that’s showcased here. One has a design resembling a devil character.
Additionally, you can see an old man calmly sitting in the corner with his instrument.
At this point in the haunted house, you are transported to the past, specifically to the lively club atmosphere of The Barrel House.
It is here that you will witness the collector claim the soul of Pinestraw Spruces. That’s the end of Pinestraw Spruces’ story, or is it…

3. Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins
This is one that I was the most excited to go through for HHN 32!
There is tons of stuff to see inside and there are a lot of Jack the Clown references. This also had one of the cooler facades that we could actually take pictures of.
Storyline of Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins HHN House
“ Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to Dr. Oddfellow’s unusual exhibition, a peculiar assortment of strange curiosities that are certain to give you a shiver. “
Here you will transport yourself to the eerie atmosphere of the Dust Bowl era in the 1930s, where you will be captivated by a realm filled with grotesque animals and wicked creatures.
Prepare yourself as you step into Dr. Oddfellow: Twisted Origins – but be cautious, as the cost to partake in this hair-raising journey is high, as it nourishes the doctor’s eternal strength through souls.
Secrets of Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins Halloween Horror Nights House
In the HHN 2023 storyline, the central figure is Dr. Oddfellow , who derives his immortality from the zodiac dimension.
Additionally, Dr. Oddfellow fuels his Cane of Souls with the captured souls from his circus. Now it’s time for us to explore the oddities located behind the circus!
Notice Jack the Clown Hiddens Gems at Dr. Oddfellow’s Circus
At this house we received an invitation to attend a post-circus show, which takes place after the main event.
This is kind of a clever ploy by Dr. Oddfellow to deceive people so that he can steal their souls.
If you happen to visit the Dr. Oddfellow’s Circus, you will notice several wanted signs posted near the entrance, with one of the most noticeable being for Jack Schmidt.
This is the real name of the clown character, Jack, who is the most famous Icon of Halloween Horror Nights.
Jack the Clown plays a significant role in the story of Dr. Oddfellow and is actually a member of his traveling circus.
Jack was drawn to Dr. Oddfellow’s Circus because of Oddfellow’s demented ways which Jack could relate to since they both had an affinity to destroying people.
However, Jack’s method of destroying people is atrocious as his demonic ways are geared towards children…
So terrible!
You’ll see a lot of wanted posters in the queue for this HHN house but one to note is Dorothy Richmond which I think could be a reference to Chance, who is Jack’s infamous partner in the HHN lore.
But that’s just my wishful thinking 🙂
Entering into Dr. Oddfellow’s Circus
Upon entering the big top, it becomes clear that you have reached the renowned Dr. Oddfellow’s Circus.
Within its walls, you are confronted with the sight of unfortunate individuals transformed into eerie hybrids of humans and animals, presenting a spectacle of grotesque proportions.
Some of the creatures in the house came from the American Werewolf in London haunted house from 2013.
As you would expect, this HHN house had several references to Jack the Clown and previous Halloween Horror Nights.
One notable reference is the big clown face at the entrance and resembles the facade of the Fear House, Jack the Clown’s house from 2000 .
Another reference is the large Jack in the Box with a prominent green J, representing Jack the Clown.
Don’t forget to check out the Cane of Souls that you’ve seen Jack the Clown carrying in past HHN events that he stole from Dr. Oddfellow.
You can also see Dr. Oddfellow carrying the Cane of Souls in his main scare zone at Halloween Horror Nights 32.
Hipster Power Tip: On my previous Unmasking the Horror Tour, I mentioned that each year Universal puts a different animal that they hide throughout the haunted houses. One year I went it was butterflies and this year it’s frogs. It would be hard for you to see them when the house is live at night.
Learning More About Dr. Oddfellow
We then had the opportunity to capture photographs inside Dr. Oddfellow’s carriage , which was an incredibly fascinating space.
There was an abundance of captivating items to observe here. Immediately on the left side, was his book containing a collection of ruins and symbols.
Additionally, there is an intriguing note displayed on the wall, referencing both October 31st and November 4th.
I’m not sure what those dates mean but I’m going to keep an eye out on the HHN social media team to see if they say anything.
One of the ruins was interpreted by my tour guide, Kelly, which she said was translated: “Never Go Alone.”
She also noted that you can see the two hats in Dr. Oddfellow’s room that showcased his past life and his future life.
The past was the time he roamed throughout the Jungle of Doom looking for zodiac power (you can see this with his jungle hat) to become the ultimate ringmaster with his top hat representing him now.
This room was also filled with numerous small decorative objects and curiosities to discover.
One particular item that has made appearances in numerous haunted houses throughout the years is Billy the Doll.
Super creepy and kind of reminds me of the famous doll from the Goosebumps book , Night of the Living Dummy.
And that’s the origin story and house for Dr. Oddfellow!

EVERYTHING We Know About Halloween Horror Nights 2024 at Universal Orlando
If you ask us, it’s NEVER too early to talk about all things spooky-ooky.
As you might already know, Halloween begins in August in the theme park world, and that’s only a few months away. So, we’re gearing up to hear all sorts of Halloween news as well as prepare ourselves for some haunts. One thing we’re particularly excited about is Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando .
We’re here to tell you ALL you need to know about this scary event. Put on your bravest face, and let’s go!
What is Halloween Horror Nights?
Universal Studios has been the headquarters for all things terrifying and downright spooky since Halloween Horror Nights started in 1991. After the park closes for regular guests, it is a special ticketed event that transforms into a park filled with nightmares and terrors to scare and delight from Wednesday-Sunday starting at 6:30PM until 2AM. A word of warning: Halloween Horror Nights is an intense event not suitable for all ages.
Dates and Tickets
Experience the ultimate scarefest at Universal Orlando Resort with Halloween Horror Nights, happening on select nights from August through November. In 2024, the spooktacular event begins on August 30th and continues thrilling guests until November 3rd, marking its earliest start and the longest season ever! With frights awaiting every Wednesday through Sunday, including Halloween night itself, brace yourself for an unforgettable journey into the macabre. As Halloween approaches, expect the crowds to intensify, adding to the eerie atmosphere of this frightfully fantastic event!
You can choose between four different ticket types, so let’s take a look at what each of them has to offer!
First, you can snag the Halloween Horror Nights Single-Night Ticket! This ticket allows you to select one night to attend the event and all it has to offer. These start at $82.99 per person.
Next, you can purchase the Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass. This is an add-on to the single-night ticket that allows you to skip the regular lines once at all of the haunted houses, and other participating rides and attractions. Prices start at $129.99 . Remember, you need to purchase your single-night admission separately!
Do you want a look behind the scenes? Well, the Halloween Horror Nights R.I.P. Tour add-on may be for you. This add-on comes with a guided walking tour of the event so that you can get a more intimate look at the event, and it can be a super unique experience! It is pricey, though — starting at $359.99 . You will need to purchase your single-night ticket to utilize this add-on.
If you want to see what the haunted houses are like during the day with the lights on, then the Halloween Horror Nights Behind-the-Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour might be for you. This ticket will give you the opportunity to see what things are like during the day before everyone comes out to play at night. You do not need a valid park admission to take part in this tour. You can choose between a 3-hour and 6-hour tour with this ticket. These start at $99.99.
For those craving more thrills than just one night can offer, Universal Orlando typically offers multi-night tickets. However, it’s essential to note that in 2023, all multi-night tickets eventually sold out. These multi-night tickets come with various perks, granting access to different nights of the event:
- The Rush of Fear Pass: Provides entry to the first 18 event nights.
- The Frequent Fear Pass: Access to every Sunday through Thursday, plus the first weekend.
- The Frequent Fear Plus Pass: Includes entry every Sunday through Friday, plus the first and last Saturday.
- The Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass: Grants access to EVERY night of the event, along with complimentary regular parking after 5 p.m. on all event nights.
Houses and Scare Zones
While the houses for Halloween Horror Nights have not been confirmed, we can assume that we will see new houses this year. No matter the theme, this after-hours event normally has 10 haunted houses and five scare zones spread throughout the park.
Last year’s houses were Universal Monsters: Unmasked, Stranger Things 4, Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings, Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins, Yeti: Campground Kills, Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate, The Last of Us, The Exorcist: Believer, Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count.
There have been rumors that a house based on Five Nights at Freddy’s will be joining the line-up of houses this year, as the movie was released last fall. This is all speculation and not confirmed. What we do know is that this year’s Halloween Horror Night s will feature 10 new houses.
Scare Zones will also be returning this year. Think of these as haunted houses that are not contained inside. Instead, the Scare Zones are themed and feature TONS of characters walking around. It’s really fun if you love thrills.
Just like any special ticketed event, Halloween Horror Nights has food offerings that are only available during the event. Some of the food is based on the current year’s houses.
For example, last year, you could grab a bite to eat at Surfer Boy Pizza , based on the fictional pizza shop in Stranger Things 4. You could try the famous Surfer Boy Hawaiian Pizza or even the cheese and vegan options.
Themed around the Last of Us, last year you could try the Left Behind Ravioli, which fits into the story of having to leave their lives behind in the Last of Us. This dish was mini cheese ravioli with marinara, truffle cream, garlic bread, and tempura fried enoki mushrooms and was served in a food ration tin can.
While menus for Halloween Horror Nights usually drop in August, it is safe to assume that the food offerings will change based on which houses will be part of the 2024 season. We are looking forward to this year’s themed eats!
Merchandise and Souvenirs
We are suckers for merchandise at theme parks, especially when it is for an after-hours event like Halloween Horror Nights.
We got a sneak peek at some of the merchandise that will be sold at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights . The first collection is called “Where Horror Lives.” We saw the bright orange shirt for this collection, which features the phrase “Where Horror Lives.” There is also a black hat and tumbler with the same logo.
There may also be themed merchandise based around the houses. Last year, the Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate shirt was extremely popular. Last year’s Stranger Things 4 merchandise featured T-shirts, mugs, and even a drawstring bag with Vecna on it.
Once the houses for 2024 are announced, we will start to get a better idea of what merchandise is offered.
SPECULATION: Will Halloween Horror Nights come to Epic Universe?
While no one can definitely say whether Halloween Horror Night will be coming to Epic Universe – though we do have some educated guesses to share below – there’s no doubt that the new park would have the PERFECT land for it: Dark Universe.
Arguably one of the most anticipated of Epic Universe’s “portals”, Dark Universe is going to give die-hard Universal fans something they’ve been craving for decades: A fully immersive land dedicated to the Universal Monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man.
Dark Universe is said to include Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, a massive dark ride that will include encounters with “Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and a new character named Dr. Victoria Frankenstein” according to Universal. In addition, the land is also set to feature a second attraction, Curse of the Werewolf, a spinning family coaster, as well as heavily themed shopping and dining. Most notably, The Burning Blade Tavern, a highly anticipated dining location whose name is reminiscent of a famous scene from Universal’s version of Frankenstein.
Everything about Dark Universe makes it seem like the perfect location for Universal to go all out with Halloween decor and seasonal additions all focused on the classic stable of monster characters, and we do believe that’s likely to happen. However, back to our aforementioned educated guess, it seems unlikely that Halloween Horror Nights will come over to Epic Universe in full.
Whew. Okay. That’s about everything we know so far! We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more news as we have it as well as specifics when those are released. Make sure to follow along so that you never miss a thing!

Things to do, universal studios, subscriber only, universal studios | how universal turns its daytime studio tour into the halloween horror nights terror tram, terror tram: the exterminatorz is part of the theme park's annual halloween horror nights which runs select evenings through oct. 31..
But during the theme park’s annual Halloween Horror Nights , once the sun sets, the backlot is taken over by monsters and the trams and tour guides only take patrons so far before kicking them off into the darkness to brave the elements. Each year there’s a theme and for this haunting season the attraction has been dubbed Terror Tram: The Exterminatorz.

Insects and rodents, led by sharp-tongued salesman Larry Larva, have started an extermination company and they’re out to get rid of all of the humans for destroying the planet.

“I invented Larry specifically for this,” HHN creative director and executive producer John Murdy said during an interview while previewing the mazes for this year’s event, which takes place select evenings through Oct. 31.
“In my research, I watched bad infomercials from the ’80s that you’d see on late night cable and I was like, well this guy should be the head of the company,” he continued. “There’s a little environmental message here, too. I like to play with the existential crisis of the day, much like the horror genre does. I was tapping into the idea that humans have been here for x amount of years, but insects have been on the planet for millions and millions of years, but look what the humans have done. They’ve poisoned the air and water and the insects are like, game over, this is done.”
Rats, flies, caterpillars, ants, spiders and a lot of other creepy crawly characters are scattered throughout the backlot as guests walk through the set of the “Psycho” Bates Motel and up by the famous “Psycho” house, where Norman Bates is posing for photos with his sharp kitchen knife. Don’t worry, the bugs will leave you alone long enough for a photo op.
The experience continues through the “War of the Worlds” plane crash site and onto the set of Jupiter’s Claim from director Jordan Peele’s suspense-thriller, “Nope.” There aren’t many bugs in this area, but in the ultimate horror crossover moment, The Teathered from Peele’s film “Us” have invaded the set.
“The Terror Tram presents fun opportunities, but also challenges,” Murdy said since his team have to work around these pre-existing sets each year for HHN and the daytime Studio Tour is routed to other areas of the backlot. “You have to come up with ideas that are umbrella concepts that can work with all of this, so for this year, we went back to a scare zone we did in, I want to say, 2015 called Exterminators. It was always one of my favorite scare zones and it just worked with this.”
So how are the insets luring in the humans for extinction? Larry Larva invented a humancide he calls “sqwooge” that will melt their skin right off.
“Humans can’t resist it,” Murdy said, noting that he made up the word “sqwooge” and went with it because it sounded funny. “It looks like a milkshake, it smells like a cheeseburger and it tastes like warm apple pie.”

When purchasing extras for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida , there are many upgrades to consider – and we’re going to walk through all of the different options to make sure you get the most out of your experience!
But before we get started, there’s a very important point that you should know first: Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event (sometimes referred to as a hard-ticket event), which means, one way or another, that you have to pay for separate admission to get in. The event is not included with regular admission to Universal Orlando’s theme parks, like, say, Mardi Gras or the holiday festivities .

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 admission – Express Passes
Just like regular Universal Express Passes , Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes enable you to skip the standby queue and hop in a shorter line, thereby allowing you to experience the various haunted houses in an expedited fashion (just once per haunt). Although the regular, daytime tickets nearly always allow you to get into an attraction in only a fraction of the time, the HHN-specific passes can sometimes, on peak nights, only cut off half of the posted wait – which, yes, means you will still spend a fair amount of time standing in line. But there are two important things to keep in mind in this regard: (1) you’ll be able to get more value out of your Express Pass on less-crowded dates (though, then again, you might not need it as much to begin with), and (2) when you consider that the houses on those peak nights can get up to a three-hour wait, you’re still getting out ahead with Express access.
Rounding out your HHN Express Pass decision-making, you should be aware that it also works on each of the rides that are open during the event as well as the mazes (again, just once per attraction), but – super important – it is separate from the usual, daytime express pass tickets, which means that your free Express access from staying at one of the Universal Orlando Resort hotels or from your annual pass won’t be valid here.
HHN Express Passes vary in price, ranging from $129.99, plus tax, per person to $239.99, plus tax, per person. Unfortunately, there are no discounts for Florida residents, annual passholders, or anyone else.
Here is what the pricing looks like for 2024:
- $129.99 – September 4, 11
- $139.99 – September 5, 18, 25
- $149.99 – September 6, 8, 12, 15, 19, 26
- $159.99 – August 30, September 1, 13, 20, 22, 27, October 30, 31
- $169.99 – August 31, September 7, 29, October 2, 3, 9, 16, 23, November 1, 3
- $179.99 – September 14, October 20
- $189.99 – September 21, October 10, 13, 17, 24, November 2
- $199.99 – September 28, October 4, 6
- $209.99 – October 11, 18, 25
- $229.99 – October 5, 26, 27
- $239.99 – October 12, 19
Unlimited Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes – currently not available for 2024
In 2019, Universal tested out offering unlimited versions of its Horror Nights Express Passes – which means that, just as with the daytime version of Unlimited Express, it would allow users to hop into the shorter line for each haunted house and ride as many times as they would like. There were several stipulations to this experimentation, however: only an extremely limited number of these tickets were offered; they were only for sale at the front gate or in the park; they weren’t available every single event night; and, finally, the price seemed to fluctuate.
Halloween Horror Nights 2024 Express Pass tips
Whether or not you’re considering Express Passes for Halloween Horror Nights 2024, you need to read these tips.
1. Express Passes for HHN 2024 will sell out on peak nights
If you know you’re going any night that Express Passes are $160 or more, we recommend that you buy them as soon as possible, because they will likely sell out (or, at the very least, ramp up in price) – sometimes, many days in advance. (It’s worth mentioning here that guests can purchase Express separately, so don’t worry if you haven’t yet figured out what general-admission ticket you’re getting.)
2. Express Passes might (and usually do) go up in price the closer we get to the event
This is because Universal’s projections for certain dates change as more and more tickets are purchased, which means nights that might have seemed slower even just a few weeks ago are suddenly looking busier and busier. So, if you have your dates locked in right away at the start of the Horror Nights “pre-season,” when Universal first puts the various passes up for sale, you’d do well to buy them right away. (In 2018, for example, two new, more expensive pricing tiers were added to the roster due to all the increases [and added-on dates]!)
3. The unlimited Express access included with staying at select Universal Orlando Resort hotels does not cover HHN (or any other separately-ticketed event)
Yes, we’ve already pointed this out, but it’s worth repeating it. It doesn’t matter if you purchase a Halloween Horror Nights vacation package, book the hotel on its own, or stroll in an hour before the event starts – your Universal hotel Express benefit does not work at Halloween Horror Nights. Consider yourself (doubly) warned.
4. Express Passes can, on certain nights, only be expected to reduce your wait time by half of the posted standby time
Here we go, repeating ourselves yet again, but we’re doing so because we really want to make sure your expectations are calibrated correctly. On peak nights, the popular houses often have wait times of over two or three hours – so, even with an Express Pass, you may still have to wait an hour (or more). This is yet another reason to skip peak nights altogether, which we can’t stress enough!
We do want to mention that the speediness of HHN Express access tends to change year-to-year and house-to-house – it is very dependent upon the popularity of the maze and the team members working it.
(Need a reminder of what the peak nights are ? No problem – you can view them on our Halloween Horror Nights overview page .)
5. It’s possible to get a discount on Express Passes – sort of
If a certain date’s Express Passes don’t sell out, Universal may offer the remainder of its inventory at a discount (usually 50% off) later on that night (typically around 10:00 or 11:00 pm). The catch here is that some Horror Nights evenings only run until 2:00 am, so you’ll only be getting some three or four hours’ worth of use out of them – and if a night isn’t busy enough to move all of its Express Passes, it’s debatable whether it’s busy enough to warrant the use of Express in the first place. We just mention this here in terms of completeness.
Halloween Horror Nights Multi-Night Tickets
While we wait for 2024’s haunt, please enjoy the following information regarding 2023’s Halloween Horror Nights.
For some thrill-seekers, one night of fear isn’t nearly enough. Universal Orlando Resort offers varying levels of multi-night admission for those ready to come face-to-face with terror again and again.
The Rush of Fear Pass allows access to the first 18 event nights, which include: September 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. Pricing begins at $179.99.
The Halloween Horror Nights Frequent Fear Pass gives access to every Sunday through Thursday event night and the first weekend of Halloween Horror Nights. Prices for this pass start from $229.99.
The Halloween Horror Nights Frequent Fear Plus Pass, beginning at $269.99, includes every Sunday through Friday event, as well as the first and last Saturday event evenings.
The Halloween Horror Nights Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass is the last tier for these multi-night tickets. Not only does it include all 48 nights of horror, but those ready to embrace the chills and thrills with this pass will also receive free regular parking after 5 PM on all event evenings. Pricing for the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass begins at $374.99.
Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass access can also be added to multi-night admission at an additional charge.
Scream Early Ticket
Can’t wait to dive into this realm of terror and fright? Universal Orlando Resort offers a Scream Early Ticket, where those eager to embrace the fear can enjoy the park from 3-5 PM and then wait in the Stay & Scream area once Halloween Horror Nights officially begins for the evening. Pricing for this ticket is $40.00 before tax, and Halloween Horror Nights admission is required.
Halloween Horror Nights 2024 admission – add-on experiences
Nearly every single year at Halloween Horror Nights, Universal experiments with additional add-on experiences, some of which end up returning and becoming the newest horror mainstays and some of which end up becoming fleeting – but nonetheless intriguing – one-offs. Each of these items is an upcharge, meaning that you’ll have to pay extra for the experience, and, as such, you’ll have to carefully consider whether the expense – and the time it takes away from your touring of the event – is worth it for you and your party.
With that warning out of the way, we should also point out that some of these premium items are some of the most fun a number of attendees have at HHN. It really does come down to personal preference.
Taste of Terror
Sink your fangs into a preview of what’s on the menu for the upcoming HHN 2023 season. Occurring on select evenings, Taste of Terror offers all you care to enjoy tasting portions of select food and beverage items, Halloween Horror Nights Coca-Cola Freestyle cup (separate fee applies to activate), and one digital download from the event. Those 21 and up also can partake in beverages at the hosted bar and receive a souvenir Halloween Horror Nights light-up cup. Taste of Terror is $135.99 (plus tax), and theme park admission is required.
Halloween Horror Nights 2024 tours
Halloween Horror Nights offers up several different tours to allow horror aficionados to get the best bang for their annual-event buck – or, even more intriguingly, to get an in-depth look at what it takes to make an HHN haunted house.
RIP Tours provide you with a blood-red-carpet journey through a multitude of horrors more ghastly than you can imagine, without having to face your worst nightmare: waiting in line. All RIP Tours provide you with immediate VIP entry to the haunted houses and select regular park attractions.
Orlando Informer recommends the RIP Tours for guests who want to experience the best of Halloween Horror Nights and who do not want to have to worry about planning.
Private RIP Tour
The chilling choice for the true connoisseur of carnage and chaos! You and your party of up to nine guests will take part in a guided walking tour of a single Horror Nights event night. As the party consists of just your compatriots, the choice is yours as to how to spend your evening; your RIP guide can tailor the tour to the interests of your party to include not only the haunted houses and shows, but the regular park attractions, as well.
Private RIP Tours can depart nightly as early as 5:30 pm, with a 30-minute break midway through. Universal has a strict policy of not listing any pricing whatsoever for these – instead, it strongly encourages guests to call its VIP Tours number at 866-346-9350 to discuss cost and reservations. (Just be aware that you must already have HHN admission before you can start your tour.)
Private RIP Tours include the following:
- VIP entrance to Universal Studios Florida
- Unlimited immediate VIP entry to all haunted houses while with your RIP guide
- Customizable itinerary
- Reserved seating at select shows
- Unlimited Express access to participating regular park attractions with your RIP Tour credential following the tour (park hours permitting)
- Access to exclusive cash bar locations throughout the tour
- Commemorative RIP Tour credential with lanyard
- Complimentary standard valet parking (subject to availability and limited to one vehicle)
- Pre-Tour Reception
Non-private RIP Tour
Indulge in an evening of unbridled terror! You and your party, along with other RIP Tour guests, will be combined together and take part in a structured, guided walking tour of one Halloween Horror Nights event night. During the Non-Private RIP Tour, you will experience all of the haunted houses (one time each) and have reserved seating for the live stage show.
Non-private RIP Tours offer various times for check-in that are determined upon booking. This tour can last up to four hours with combined groups consisting of no more than twelve guests per RIP guide. Please note that you can only have six people in your individual party. Should you have seven or more guests in your party, you will need to book a private RIP tour. Prices start at $259.99 per person, plus tax and event admission, but they are wildly dependent upon date and availability.
Non-Private RIP Tours include the following:
- One-time immediate VIP entry to all haunted houses while with your RIP guide
Non-Private-RIP-Tour guest requests to be in the same party as other Non-Private RIP Tour attendees cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, it should be noted that the tour ends once all of its inclusions (all haunted houses and stage shows) have been met.
Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour (daytime)
Pierce the veil and get a lights-on, inside look at Halloween Horror Nights. You and your party, along with other Unmasking the Horror guests, will be combined together to take part in a guided, informational walking tour providing an overview of this year’s event as well as a lights-on walk-through of several haunted houses, with the opportunity to take photos in select rooms. Along the way, you’ll learn how Universal’s Art and Design team takes some of the world’s most popular movie, television, and videogame properties and turns them into immersive haunted houses, along with how they create original haunts that can only be seen at Halloween Horror Nights each year.
Guests can choose a three- or six-house Behind the Screams Tour, with the former lasting up to two-and-a-half hours and the latter up to five. Groups consist of 12 attendees, with each member receiving a “unique HHN token.” Prices start at $99.99 for the three-house variation and at $179.99 for the six-hour configuration, plus tax – but please note that, unlike with the various RIP Tours, Horror Nights admission is not also required. You must reserve your spot in advance, however, with departure times starting as early as 8:30 am. Behind the Screams outings are typically available on every single event date.
And here’s one final important bullet point to keep in mind: due to the intensely graphic nature and lights-on viewing within the haunted houses, these are not recommended for children under the age of 13.
Orlando Informer strongly recommends the Unmasking the Horror Tour for anyone interested in learning how Universal produces Horror Nights.

Meet The Band: Terror Universal
This week, the masked horror metal band Terror Universal are in the spotlight for Meet The Band. Their lineup includes current and former members of bands such as Machine Head, Ill Nino, Soulfly and Upon A Burning Body. Their full-length debut Make Them Bleed includes guest appearances from John Moyer (Disturbed) and Tony Campos (Soulfly). Drummer Massacre (Ill Nino’s Dave Chavarri) introduces us to his band.
Chad Bowar: Give us a brief history of Terror Universal. Dave Chavarri: As my guitarist Thrax and I were writing our first song, which became “Welcome To Hell,” the band’s initial tones were really heavy, and had tons of attitude. So after the song was written, we wanted a dark, ugly name for the band, and Terror Universal was born.
Why did you decide to wear masks and use pseudonyms? Wearing masks is something I’ve never done in my 33 year career, and I wanted to do something different. And wearing a mask allows you to be someone else.
Describe the songwriting process for Make Them Bleed . Really, like most major albums are done. We put riffs together, and then we decide which songs make the album! Then the recording process begins, and the rest is history.
How did John Moyer and Tony Campos’ guest appearances come about? I am very good friends with both Tony and John, as I have toured throughout the U.S. and overseas with both of their bands (Disturbed, Static-X, etc). They’re both amazing people and sick players, so I approached them and they were down to do it. I’m very thankful to both of them for being on the album.
How has your sound evolved from your debut EP? Hard to explain, but we have matured and gelled as a band, and are like a well-oiled machine now!
What are the pros and cons of producing the album yourself? I’ve been producing my own albums for close to 20 years, but always work with other great producers and friends. Pros are, you do your own album, and it sounds exactly like you want. Cons are, it will drive you CRAZY!
How did you come to sign with Minus Head Records? I was speaking to the CEO Brad Hardie about another band on his roster, Incite, who was on tour with my other band, Ill Nino, and we ended up speaking at length about Terror Universal. He was awesome to speak to and he showed interest in TU so we started discussing the possibilities of working together, and I’m very glad we did.
You did a video for “Dig Me A Hole” (Watch below). How important are videos these days? Very important. In many cases, videos are more important than touring.
What are your upcoming tour plans? We will be touring all over the globe for most of 2018. Details to come soon!
What has been your most memorable Terror Universal live show? Being direct support for Korn in Mexico City, it was amazing!
How difficult is it to balance being in multiple bands? It’s sometimes hard, but if you love what you do for a living, it’s not a chore.
What’s currently in your heavy musical rotation? Master Of Puppets , Seal and Bring Me The Horizon!
Anything else you’d like to mention or promote? Thanks to all that believed in us since the beginning of Terror Universal!
(interview published January 20, 2018)

Located next to Transformers in the Central Park area of the studios, CineSational brings to life the iconic music and visuals of Universal’s films using fountains, lights, lasers, projections, and over 600 light-up drones. Set to a brand new orchestral soundtrack, this show highlights the incredible music and moments from iconic movies like Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Jaws, Shrek, Ghostbusters, Trolls, Back to the Future, Universal Monsters, Transformers, How to Train Your Dragon, E.T., Fast and Furious, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Minions, The Mummy, and King Kong.
Debuting July 3, 2024, the new Universal Mega Movie Parade celebrates the summer blockbusters of the past, present, and future. The parade features floats themed to E.T., Jurassic Park, Trolls, Ghostbusters, Minions, and more. Expect to see the iconic Ecto-1 in the parade as it chased a 16-foot Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, a full marching band to celebrate July 4th at Amity Beach, and even an epic ending featuring dinosaurs.
Relive a year of magic and friendship at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the new nighttime show – Hogwarts Always. The show takes place on select nights in Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure and uses projection mapping on Hogwarts Castle to bring the school to life. There will be four unique endings to the show, each highlighting a separate Hogwarts house.

CityWalk Cinnabon and Quiet Flight Close
The Universal Orlando CityWalk Cinnabon snack stand and Quiet Flight clothing store have permanently closed. Universal Orlando has not mentioned what is replacing these two locations but we have our money on a Butterbeer Bar like at Universal Studios Hollywood’s CityWalk (no alcohol) and an expansion to the Universal Studios Store to add Super Nintendo World merchandise.
Epic Update
Years in the making, Universal Orlando is opening the largest Super Nintendo World inside Epic Universe. Super Nintendo World has three family-friendly rides – a high-tech interactive dark ride based on Mario Kart, a slow-moving Yoshi ride through animated vignettes, and a Donkey Kong-themed rollercoaster.
What’s a video game land without some interactive games and features? Super Nintendo World features three major game options for guests: smash blocks to Collect Coins and compete for the daily high core, Collect Stamps at secret touch points around the land, and collect the Collect Keys at mini-games throughout the land to unlock the door to defeat Bowser Jr. and raise the Mario flag!
Universal Orlando frequently offers discounts on multi-day tickets and hotel stays. These are the latest discounts available to guests:

See 2024 dates for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Halloween Horror Nights in Florida
While it's still only spring, spooky season is less than six months away .
And let's be honest — before we're just a few months away from Floridians seeing signs for pumpkin patches, advertisements for pumpkin spice lattes to enjoy in 90-degree weather, and Halloween decorations lining the stores.
Florida offers two premier Halloween events for residents to attend when the Halloween season officially starts — Universal Studios Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights and Walt Disney World's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
And this year, they are both kicking off in August. Here's when (and how much) you can get spooked earlier this year.
Here are the dates for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2024
The celebration will run from 7 p.m. to midnight on the following dates:
- Aug. 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 30
- Sept. 2, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29
- Oct. 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 29, 31
Tickets go on sale May 15, but guests staying at select hotels can get advance access beginning on Wednesday (a full list is available on Walt Disney World’s website ).
Here are the dates for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights 2024
Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights will be on:
- Sept. 1, 4-8, 11-15, 18-22, 25-29
- Oct. 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30-31
Universal Orlando officials said guests can secure their spot for the screams with single-night event tickets and Express Passes available for purchase now on its website .
But which one should I attend (if not both)? Which one should I choose if I want …?
A more family-fun vibe with candy, costumes, and beloved Disney characters
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom is perfect for you, with its unique characters, attraction overlays, treat stops, photo opportunities, and specialty food for Halloween.
An experience filled with over-the-top scares, satirical live shows, and (fake) gore galore
With 10 terrifying haunted houses, five sinister scare zones, and outrageous entertainment, Universal Studios Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights is your best bet.
Is there an age limit for these events?
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a family-friendly event for all age groups. Experts just advise that those with younger children make sure that the night event makes sense for their schedule and that they would enjoy it.
There is no official age limit for Halloween Horror Nights. However, the webpage warns guests that the event might not be suitable for those under 13 years old.
How much does Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party cost?
Tickets range from $119 to $199 per ticket – before tax – depending on the date. Disney Vacation Club members and annual passholders can get a $10 discount on each ticket for August and September dates.
Ticketholders can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4 p.m. and do not need a separate day theme park ticket or reservation.
How much are Halloween Horror Nights 2024 tickets?
A single-night ticket for HNN at Universal Orlando Resort starts at $82.99 and increases depending on the date, which USA TODAY notes is a hike from last year’s $73.99. The ticket is a separate event ticket from park admission.
There’ll also be an express pass allowing visitors to skip the line at haunted houses once. The cost for the express pass is $129.99.
As for passes to attend multiple nights, they have not released the prices for 2024. Here's a breakdown of last year's prices to help you budget for when August sneaks up:
- Fear of Fear Pass: Access to up to the first 18 event nights of terror - $179.99
- Frequent Fear Pass: Every Sunday - Thursday, plus the first weekend - $229.99
- Frequent Fear Plus Pass: every Sunday - Friday, plus the first weekend - $269.99
- Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass: Every night of the event -$374.99
