Harpa - guided tour or night out.
I really enjoyed the Harpa tour, as it gave a great insight into the building of it and the trials and tribulations along the way. I was also amazed at the technology they use. I was lucky enough to also be able to enjoy a comedy show there "How to become Icelandic in 60 minutes". If you get the chance go and see this - it's a riot of laughter. Well worth the money for the tour and the show, so glad I could do both, as having done the tour I had a new appreication for Harpa.
Visited Harpa on business and spent two days there for conferences. Wonderfully located with spectacular views, modern architecture and great food - anybody going to Reykjavik should at least grab a cup of coffee here to experience the amazing views and decor!
i have never been in a building quite like this. It is magnificent and in a stunning position over looking the sea and harbour in Reykjavik. I didnt go to a concert there but just visiting the building and looking round was an experience.
The building itself is an impressive sight - walk by at different times of the day and it look so different each time, depending on the light outisde and the weather. The cafe on the main floor is the typical 'captive audience' cafe. The coffee is okay but everything else is blah and a bit overpriced.
This is simply a World Class Building - a symphony in glass. It is also well worth a visit at night: simply marvel at the light display on the outside of the building.
Well worth a visit, this modern building sits on the edge of the harbour. There is a 'posh' restaurant upstair & a snack bar downstairs. We enjoyed at drink at the bar at the top. Loved the spectatular roof, and stairs are an unique design (don't have too many drinks before hand !!)
Top choice in Laugavegur & Skólavörðustígur
With its ever-changing facets glistening on the water's edge, Reykjavík’s sparkling Harpa concert hall and cultural centre is a beauty to behold. In addition to a season of top-notch shows (some free), the shimmering interior with harbour vistas is worth stopping in for, or take a highly recommended, 30-minute guided tour (1500kr); these run two to three times daily year-round, with up to eight daily tours between mid-June and mid-August.
Harpa dazzles the eye with an intricate lattice of convex and concave glass panels that sparkle at night like the switchboard of an alien spaceship. Designed by Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects, Icelandic firm Batteríið Architects and Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson, Harpa opened in 2011. The lobby houses design boutiques and a cafe, and gourmet restaurant Kolabrautin perches on the upper level. The Iceland Symphony and the Icelandic Opera are based here.
