1. How do I play an Escape Room?

If we were to answer this question, we would give away all the surprise and experience. Let’s just say that it is one of the most exciting and adventurous ways to spend time with your friends, family or colleagues. The game itself involves you all working together to escape from a room by solving a mystery. Solve the mystery and escape within 60 minutes. Does this all sound very simple? Otherwise, come and experience it for yourself soon!

2. Is it scary?

Only in the “Cabin in the Woods” is there a somewhat tense atmosphere at one point. Otherwise, there are no major fear factors or physical activities present in our escape rooms. The Cabin in the Woods is only suitable for young children accompanied by an adult. All other rooms are suitable for young children from 9 years old. For more information, see point 5: Is it suitable for children?

3. Why Escape World Waterlooplein?

Book with us if you are looking to have a fun and memorable time with friends, family or colleagues. We guarantee to offer the most atmospheric escaperooms in the Netherlands, in which the story and cool technical gadgets also blend seamlessly. Moreover, we are located in the heart of Amsterdam, with several restaurants nearby.

4. What themes do you offer?

You can currently choose from 5 rooms with 4 different themes (2x Cabin in the Woods, 1x The Flying Dutchman and 1x The Golden Ticket and 1x The Missing Bride). Each theme is completely different, interesting and exciting. So be surprised!

5. Is it suitable for children?

Our rooms are suitable for children and young adults aged 12 and over, accompanied by an adult. The room The Flying Dutchman can be played by children from 12 years onwards without supervision. At the Cabin in the Woods, adults should always accompany you. We do not offer any packages or children’s parties in Amsterdam. It is possible to book an escape room for children online.

6. Can we play against each other in the same theme?

Yes definitely! We have 2 identical Cabin in the Woods escaperooms. So with a group of up to 12 people, you can take on the same adventure in these rooms in two teams simultaneously! If you fancy a little competition, be sure to compete with your friends, family or colleagues!

7. For how many people is there room?

There is currently room for 36 people at a time in six escaperooms. If there are larger numbers, we can book a second round in addition.

From 2 rounds, we have plenty of options to make it a fun event; see also our packages for groups.

8. Do you also offer package deals for larger groups?

Yes, we offer numerous packages for groups of friends, family or even company outings, such as a staff or team outing. We can create programmes for groups of up to 105 people. Think of a combination with a city game, or combine an escape room with a dinner. Check out our escape room packages in Amsterdam!

9. How can I book for a group of more than 6 people?

If you come with a group of more than 6 people, you can book multiple escape rooms. The people are divided into groups of equal size across several rooms. This is possible for up to 36 people at the same time!

Via our online bookingsystem you can book multiple escape rooms at the same times. You can immediately see the availability in a handy overview!

10. Are the Escape Rooms playable in English (English availability)

Our escape rooms are bilingual: this means that all texts in the game can be found in both English, and Dutch . If the text can only be displayed one way, it will be in easily understandable English. Our Game Masters speak English to help you along.

It is therefore possible to play the escape room with a mixed group of Dutch-speaking and English-speaking people at the same time!

11. What are your opening hours in Amsterdam?

We are open on every week from Tuesday to Friday from 13:00 to 22:00. Every Saturday and Sunday we are open from 11:30 to 22:00. Check our booking page for availability and book your escape room right away!

12. I don't like games, why would I like this?

Because it’s not a game like other games you know. It is like a live computer game where you end up in a film set and have to solve puzzles by yourself. We’re almost sure you’ll have an unforgettable time, then have a drink together and take a photo with your friends afterwards.

13. What are your ground rules regarding drink, drugs & manners?

We have some strict house rules for playing an Escape Room. For example, no violence or brute force is allowed in the escape rooms. There are no tasks that require physical strength, so please do not do so.

In addition, alcohol/drugs or entering the escape room under the influence is not allowed, also in connection with your own safety.

Finally, we do not allow phone devices in the escape rooms, you hand these in to the Game Master before playing and get them back immediately after playing. By definition, Google takes away from the escape fun!

If the rules are broken, Escape World staff may deny people access to the establishment or Escape Room or stop the game. When booking, you agree to this via our terms and conditions.

14. Where can I park?

We are right on Waterlooplein in the heart of the city centre, so you can only find paid parking in the Waterlooplein car park: Valkenburgerstraat 238, 1011 ND Amsterdam. From there, our location is a 2-minute walk away.

15. Are your escape rooms also suitable for people in wheelchairs?

This venue is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The Golden Ticket or Cabin in the Woods rooms may be suitable if you have mobility problems. The “Missing Bride” room is suitable for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The Gallery

Escapist escaperooms, team escapist.

• What is an escape room? An escape room is a game where you get locked in a room and can discover the path to freedom by solving various puzzles and assignments. A game (with us) lasts for about one hour.
• Where is escape room The Gallery located and how do we get there? Our address is Leidsegracht 108-souterrain in Amsterdam. The entrance is opposite to the canal. There is a round door with a bright red lit door bell at the end of a couple of stairs. We are located at walking distance (a couple of minutes) from the Leidseplein. From here, trams connect you to the entire city. For example; to Amsterdam Central Station (trams 1, 2 en 5), to subway station Weesperplein (tram 7 and 10) where you can take the subway (metro in Dutch) to travel further to station Bijlmer Arena and Amsterdam Amstel. You can use Google Maps to plan your journey with public transport. Travelling the Dutch way, by bike, is also highly recommended. You can park your bike at the Raamplein. It is also possible to come by car, but parking is very expensive. The nearest parking lot is QPark Byzantium, tariff is approximately 6 euros per hour. Make sure that you are present with your entire group 10 minutes before the game starts.
• How many players can play the escape room? The escape room is designed in a way that groups large and small can all enjoy a fun challenge. We feel that the escape room is best suited for groups of 3 to 6 players. A group of seven is the maximum. Do you want to come play with a larger group? Then please read below all about our group arrangements or just e-mail us via info@escapist.nl . Do you desire to play The Gallery as a duo? This is possible. Book using this 2 persons link .  But please note that if you are a novice escape room player, we highly recommended that you find at least a third person to join, since the escape room is pretty tough.
• How difficult is escape room The Gallery? We designed the escape room to be fun and challenging for both novice as experienced players. How we achieved this is our secret, but you can trust us on this and of course check out the reviews left by previous players. On your request, we are also able to customize the way and intensity we guide you through the game. This way, we provide all groups of different shapes and sizes and exciting hour filled with thrills and sensation!
• What is the minimum age to be able to play the escape room? Escape room The Gallery is an exciting experience, but not scary. Therefore it is also a great experience for families with children. The minimum age to play the escape room is 12 years old. However, for a group of only 12 year olds the escape room can be pretty difficult, so it is preferred that at least one adult joins your team as well.
• In which languages can you play escape room The Gallery? The escape room can be played in English and Dutch.
• Can I also give the escape room to someone as a present? Of course! We can add your personalized gift code creation to a gift voucher. The lucky person who received this gift can use the code for their booking. Send an e-mail to info@escapist.nl and we will get this done in a jiffy!
• I would like to organize a group / team event at your escape room. Is this possible? Absolutely! We have one escape room at the moment, that can be played by maximum 7 players at once. For the people waiting, we have a bar and a nice foyer where you can enjoy drinks and snacks. There is a (meeting) room where we can accommodate groups and for example organize workshops to keep the group entertained. We are also able to provide catering as desired. This way, we can organize customized group arrangements for up to 21 persons. Surprise parties, team events, bachelor(ette) parties, birthdays and drinks are all great events to host at our escape room. We would also love to brainstorm with you about how we can make your escape room event at The Gallery a unique experience, for example by altering the escape room a bit to fit your desires. • Can escape room The Gallery be used for training purposes? Definitely, the escape room is very suitable for this. We can follow the players via video cameras and these can be viewed by the participants together with, for example, a psychologist or trainer in our multifunctional (meeting) room. • What about safety? We have taken numerous measures to ensure the players safety, like emergency buttons in the room so the players can open the doors in case of calamities. Please contact us in case of questions about the measures we have taken regarding safety.

A famous painting, once owned by Sherlock Holmes' archenemy Moriarty, has been stolen. It has been said it contains Moriarty's greatest secrets to paint the world red. Both supporters of Moriarty and Scotland Yard are now after the painting. With Amsterdam as the main location, it is up to you to help Sherlock and infiltrate the city center to get the painting back. (this outdoor experience includes actors)

Our experiences are within a 5 minutes walking distance from central station, in the heart of Amsterdam. We invite you to step into the world of Sherlock Holmes and solve these mind bending mysteries.

We want you to have an adventure that you will remember for a long time to come. If you have specific questions, check out the frequently asked questions.

We expect you to arrive at our experiences 15 minutes in advance, this is also much nicer for yourself. We also suggest you have at least 15 minutes after you are done playing to talk about your experience a little more.

Moriarty's Masterpiece is 90-120 minutes, and Sherlock's Brain Attic is 75 minutes.

At Sherlock's Brain Attic, mild climbing and scrambling is required.

At Moriarty's Masterpiece, it's mostly hiking. You'll cover about 2 kilometers.

Moriarty's Masterpiece can be experienced with a wheelchair . This outdoor experience does have time constraints due to the actors, but that need not be a barrier if you can push this person.

Sherlock's Brain Attic is not wheelchair friendly . It is a narrow building with several flights of stairs. Unfortunately, this cannot be solved in any other way.

No, our experiences are not scary. Of course they are exciting. We believe that the excitement ensures that you will remember the experience for a long time.

In some experiences we use actors, they will never touch anyone or scare anyone on purpose. They add something to the story and are there to make the world more real and get you deeper into the story.

Definitely! You can play with your colleagues. You get to know each other in a new way in a very exciting experience! Up to 14 players can play at the same time. For larger groups it is best to contact us. We can have a new group playing every 45 minutes.

There is no toilet at the indoor experience, next to the escape room is a bar and there you can use the toilet for free.

In the outdoor experience you are free to have a toilet break during the experience. It is useful to let your contact person know so that the actors can take this into account.

We recommend playing one of our experiences from the age of 12. For children under the age of 16, an adult is required to walk/play with them.

The gang stops for no one. So even if it rains, your civic duty is needed. Of course, we then recommend bringing an umbrella and putting on warmer clothes. In autumn and winter, the chance of bad weather is greater. Only when there is a real storm and your own safety cannot be guaranteed will your mission be cancelled and we will look together for an alternative date.

This only applies to the outdoor experience, the indoor experience Sherlock's Brain Attic doesn't have any problems with bad weather.

Yes this can be kept secret. Even until the experience has already begun. The birthday boy, the bachelor or the person(s) you want to put in the limelight has no idea what he or she has gotten into.

Our experiences are played a lot on bachelor parties and family days where the activity is a surprise. We have special assignments that are very suitable for the person who may not know yet to do.

The experience starts after booking, this communication is not yet known to the persons for whom it is a surprise. Please do not give the name and e-mail address of the bachelor and mention it as a remark when booking.

From 2 people and up to 16 people. You will then play the outdoor and indoor experience simultaneously. If the group is larger, please contact us so we can discuss the possibilities.

With more than 8 players you will be split into teams. You will then play at the same time only you will not play the same experience.

Groups can be started every 45 minutes, so if your group is larger you can also play after each other.

On the Escape Tour you’ll explore the story of Rembrandt van Rijn and search for the secret exit of Amsterdam. You’ll travel back in time to the 17th century, where you’ll help him discover the mysteries of the city. How do i book a ticket.

Select a date and time.

Choose the number of tickets.

Click through to the next page and enter your personal details.

After entering your personal details, select your payment method and enter your payment details.

Once you’ve entered your payment details successfully, you will be redirected to your ticket page, where you can check the status and details of your reservations.

You'll receive a confirmation email once the reservation is confirmed with the attraction operator. This could take some time based on the supplier.

You can view your tickets in your confirmation email, or in the Booking & Trips section of your account.

When do I pay?

Booking.com collects payment on behalf of the attraction operator when you book your ticket.

How do digital tickets work?

Each digital ticket contains a unique code. This is usually a QR or numerical code, but could be something else and can be found on your ticket or the PDF sent to you.

If your digital ticket contains a barcode or QR code, give it to the staff at the attraction's entrance or ticket collection point so they can scan it.

For those with numerical codes, just show your ticket to staff for verification.

Can I cancel or modify my tickets?
