Dua For Stopping Over Hotel

The supplication of the traveler

Whenever he supplicates to Allah to ease his journey or any other supplication, Allah, the most High, responds to his request.

Thus, it is necessary to always seize the opportunity of supplicating on journeys. When the journey is in obedience to Allah such as Umrah and Hajj, then the possibility and strength of response increases.

The traveler is detached from his homeland, and he remains a traveler till he returns to it (i.e. his homeland). The supplication of a traveler usually is that of one in need.

Whenever a person is in need and supplicates to his Lord, his prayer will most likely be answered. This is because Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, responds to the supplication of the one in difficult situation and the supplication of the one in need more than the supplications of others.

According to an authentic Hadith, three supplications which are answered without doubt:

  • 1. The supplication of the oppressed;
  • 2. The supplication of the traveler; and
  • 3. The supplication of a parent.

Also, a person should seek refuge from the hardships of travelling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes and evil turns in property and family.

He should also seek refuge from the supplication of the oppressed, ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy.

Sheik Ibn Uthaimeen said that to make this remembrance in the exact wordings narrated from the Prophet It is best and preferred.

Otherwise, one may supplicate with any easy words if it is impossible to remember the exact wordings.

Islam is an amazing religion that teaches us to have faith in Allah (SWT) and live our lives according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Keep reading to learn more about the duas for traveling .

What Does Allah Say About Travelling?

duas for travelling on plane

The Holy Quran is the religious book of Islam and is considered the ultimate guide for Muslims. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes our life as a journey, with ignorance and knowledge being analogous to the dark and light on the way, respectively.  The Quran has numerous references for Muslims to follow in order to go through a better worldly yet spiritual journey. However, in several places, Allah (SWT) has placed special emphasis on the significance of physical travel.

In the Quran, the word “saiyr” is used to refer to a traveller. The literal meaning of saiyr is to travel or move; for example; the planets are called sayyarah. The term saiyr appears in the Holy Quran 27 times. In most places, it’s used in the formulation of “Tell them to travel,” “Do they not travel,” or “Do travel.”

On the significance of travelling in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the One who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. (al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih)

Duas for Travelling in a Car

To protect yourself and your travel companions it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following Surah, with a wish to have a safe and blessed journey:

“With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. Praise is to Allah . Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You.” (Abu Dawud 3/34, At-Tirmidhi 5/501)

In general, having been often mentioned in the Quran, travelling  is a way to achieve insight and wisdom by broadening an individual’s horizons and potential

Duas for Travelling on Plane

Travelling is viewed as a good deed in Islam. this is mainly because in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ummah succeeded in spreading Islam through exploration and travelling. The act of travelling also strengthens our belief, aboutwhich Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “Say (O Muhammad): ‘ Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation.'” (Surah Al-Ankabut, Verse 20)

Therefore, following the Sunnah – acts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – it is advised that every Muslim should follow the exemplary Adab (etiquette) mentioned below, while travelling out of the city or country:

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on the adab of leaving your house for travelling , stated: “When you leave your house, perform two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils.” (Hadith reported by Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi)

Furthermore, in “Al-Majmu,” Imam An-Nawawi mentions that while performing the two raka’at , in the first raka’at, one should recite Surah Al-Kafirun after Surah Al-Fatiahah. However, in the second raka’at, one should recite Surah Ikhlas after Surah Al-Fatihah.

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

  • Dua When You Arrive at Your Destination | Enter a New Country or City

According to the narration of Suhaib (RA), Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite the following verse when he looked at the town that he wished to enter:

“Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.”

“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelop, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.”

(Hadith reported by An-Nasa’i and Al-Hakim)

  • Dua Upon Entering the Place to Stay (Hotel)

When entering a hotel, people are usually unknown to the history of their place of stay. Therefore, to safeguard themselves from all possible hazards and accidents, it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following verses:

“A’udzu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq”

“I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every evil (that has been created).”

(Hadith reported by Muslim)

Khawalah binte Hakim As-Sulaimiyyah (RA) narrates for the aforementioned verses that she heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying, “Whoever, on arrival, says (verse mentioned above) no evil shall befall him until he departs from where he arrived.”

  • Dua When Facing Difficulties

There will be several times when travelling when one might feel lost. In such a case, it is advised to perform zikr (remembrance) of Allah (SWT) and istighfar (for forgiveness) for our sins.

In a narration by Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), it is stated that, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if a person constantly makes Istighfar (i.e., “Astaghfirullah”), then Allah removes every difficulty, frees him from every sorrow and makes a means for him to receive sustenance from places that he never thought of.” (Hadith reported by Ahmad)

  • Dua Upon Returning Home | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

As it is advised to pray two raka’at when leaving for a journey, it is also recommended to pray two raka’at when returning home.  Jabir (RA), in a narration, says that: “I was travelling with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) When we reached Madinah, He Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said to me, “Enter the mosque and pray two raka’at.”

Also, it is recommended to perform the prayer in the same way as the two raka’at prayers before leaving the house.

Duas for Our Parents

muslim man praying during the last 10 nights of ramadan

There is no love more pure and selfless except for the love of your parents. Everyone’s parents love them unconditionally, and regardless of all and worldly reasons. And realistically stating it is nearly impossible for a child to reciprocate that love. Therefore, being Muslims, the best thing that you can do is recite the following duas wishing a happy and blessed life for your parents:

  • Dua for the Happiness of Your Parents:

“RabbiawziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAalawalidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahuwaaslih lee fee thurriyyatee innee tubtuilayka wa-innee mina almuslimeen”

“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work the righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.” ( Quran 46:15)

  • Dua for the Long Life of Your Parents:

“Adhhib al-ba’s Rabb an-naas, wa’shfi anta al-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman”

Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5351, Muslim, 2191)

Table of Contents

Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all spheres of life. In addition to the five obligatory prayers, Allah has commanded us to seek His blessings and guidance before undertaking any action. For instance, we must seek Allah’s protection from any harm during travelling by reciting Dua for Travelling .

Whether we travel by car, train, or airplane, we must recite certain Duas before starting our journey . Of course, we plan ahead of time, but no one is certain how our plan progresses or ends. Therefore, Muslims must seek Allah’s direction and assistance to reach their destinations safely and return home to their family. While you do so, opt for Dua Travels to maximize your experience.

Islam allows all Muslims to travel when the intentions are for the right purpose. While reciting  Dua for travelling , Muslims must firmly believe in Allah (SWT) and His blessings. He is the only one who has the power to protect us from unfortunate events like accidents and the harm of travelling. Let us explore some of the most beneficial as we must recite before and during the journey.

What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

Holy Quran, the sacred scripture, is the book of wisdom that teaches man the purpose of life and guides Muslims on the right way to lead their lives. The Islamic Holy Book covers all aspects of life and directs Muslims to success in this world and hereafter. According to the Quran, this world is temporary, and human beings are in a constant state of Travel. However, Allah (SWT) also mentions physical travelling several times.

In the Quran, ‘sayyir’ refers to the one who travels. The word sayir literally means to move or travel. Allah (SWT) used this word 27 times in the Quran in several expressions, including “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? 22:46

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also emphasized travelling. He told the believers that travelling is a great way to expand their horizons and seek knowledge. In one instance, he said

“Keep  to  travelling by night  because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the  night .” [Abu Dawud].

Dua Before Travelling

Shariah recommends to off 2 rakaat nawafil before starting travel. It is because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed this task before going on any journey. You can get the confirmation of this practice from the following hadith.

Dua Before Travelling

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil.”

(Musnad Al-Bazzar)

Understanding the Essence of Dua When Traveling

In Islam, dua is an integral part of our relationship with Allah. It is a way to communicate our hopes, fears, and desires, seeking His guidance and blessings in all aspects of life. Dua is a reflection of our faith, humility, and trust in the Divine. When we make dua, we acknowledge our dependence on Allah and His control over every aspect of our lives. Through dua, we establish a profound connection with our Creator, finding solace and strength in His infinite mercy.

Dua Before the Journey

Embarking on a journey is an exciting yet uncertain time. Before setting foot outside our homes, it is crucial to seek Allah’s protection and blessings. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever leaves his home, and says: ‘In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah,’ it will be said to him: ‘You have been guided, defended, and protected,’ and the devil will go far away from him” (Sunan Abu Dawood).

In preparation for your journey, take a moment to make dua. Seek Allah’s protection from all potential hardships and calamities that may come your way. Offer supplications for a smooth and safe journey, accompanied by His divine mercy. By starting your travels with the remembrance of Allah, you invoke His blessings and pave the way for a secure expedition.

Dua During the Journey

As you embark on your journey, the significance of dua remains steadfast. Each step, whether on land, air, or sea, presents unique challenges and unforeseen circumstances. In these moments, turning to Allah through dua provides us with tranquility and assurance. We implore His protection, guidance, and assistance, understanding that our safety lies solely in His hands.

During the journey, offer prayers specific to each stage, seeking Allah’s safeguarding grace. Whether you’re boarding a plane, driving on a busy highway, or navigating through unfamiliar terrain, take a moment to recite supplications tailored to your circumstances. These prayers become a shield against accidents, discomfort, and any potential harm. By placing your trust in Allah and making dua, you invite His divine intervention, transforming your journey into a blessed and secure experience.

Dua Upon Arrival

Upon reaching your destination, express your gratitude to Allah for His protection and guidance. Offer prayers of thanksgiving, recognizing that your safe arrival is a testament to His mercy and benevolence. At this juncture, take a moment to make dua for a blessed stay and positive experiences throughout your journey. Seek His blessings in exploring new places, meeting new people, and gaining valuable insights from your travels.

Remember, dua is not limited to seeking protection from harm; it is also about seeking blessings, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Embrace the opportunity to connect with Allah, for He is ever-ready to respond to your heartfelt supplications.

Can dua change the course of my journey?

While we ultimately rely on Allah’s divine decree, dua has the power to invoke His intervention and influence the outcome of our journey. It instills within us a sense of tranquility, strengthens our faith, and aligns our actions with His guidance.

Are there specific duas for different modes of travel?

Yes, there are supplications and prayers tailored to various forms of travel. These include prayers for boarding a plane, driving, sailing, or any other mode of transportation. These specific duas ensure that we seek Allah’s protection and blessings throughout the journey.

In the realm of travel, dua serves as a faithful companion, offering solace, protection, and blessings. By understanding the essence of dua, making supplications before, during, and after the journey, and expressing gratitude upon arrival, we infuse our travels with spirituality and divine guidance. Embrace the power of dua, for it is an integral part of our faith and an ever-present source of strength. Let your journey be safe, blessed, and filled with the mercy of Allah, knowing that you are under His watchful care.

As we embark on our travels, may we always remember the profound impact dua can have on our journeys, both in this world and the next.

Dua for traveling

A Dua for Safe Travels

Dua, or supplication, is an integral aspect of the Islamic faith. It is a means of communicating with Allah, seeking His guidance, and asking for His blessings. When it comes to traveling, making dua is highly recommended as it is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance during the journey. In this article, we will explore the importance of dua for travel from a Sunnah perspective, and provide a dua for travel along with its Arabic text, transliteration, and translation.

In Islam, dua is considered to be the essence of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the significance of making dua in various aspects of life, including travel. He is reported to have said, “There are three whose supplication is not rejected: the fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the one who is oppressed” (Tirmidhi). This indicates the special status of dua, and its potency in seeking Allah’s favor.

Traveling, whether for leisure or for a specific purpose, can be fraught with uncertainties and challenges. Making dua before embarking on a journey is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance, and to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience. It is a way of acknowledging our reliance on Allah and humbly seeking His assistance. Moreover, the act of making dua fosters a sense of mindfulness and connection with Allah, thereby enhancing our spiritual journey.

A dua for travel is as follows:

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun. Translation: “Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.”

This dua is to be recited during the journey, whether it be by air, land, sea, or any other means of transport. It is a way of acknowledging Allah’s control over the means of transportation and seeking His protection and guidance throughout the travel.

The act of reciting this dua not only serves as a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance but also as a means of expressing gratitude for the means of travel and acknowledging Allah’s control over all aspects of our lives.

In Islam, charity holds immense significance, and it is regarded as a means of seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. The act of giving charity with sincere intentions can serve as a way to seek Allah’s favors, and it can potentially help in the fulfillment of one’s dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity” (Tirmidhi).

By giving in charity with a sincere heart, one not only fulfills their obligation towards those in need but also seeks Allah’s mercy and blessings. This act of kindness and generosity can contribute to the fulfillment of one’s supplications, including those made for safe traveling and a smooth journey.

The dua for travel provided above serves as a means to acknowledge Allah’s control over our journeys and seek His blessings for a safe and smooth travel experience. Additionally, giving in charity with a sincere heart can further aid in the fulfillment of one’s supplications.

As Muslims, it is important to incorporate these practices into our lives and recognize the power of dua and charity in seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. May Allah grant us safe travels and accept our supplications. Ameen.

How to Recite Traveling Dua?

Performing a Dua, or prayer, in Islam doesn’t need any special preparations like wudu (ablution), usually done before prayers. However, as a Muslim, it is better to always remain neat and clean, including when you’re travelling.

Starting your journey? It’s an ideal time to offer your Dua for travelling .  There is a set pattern for offering a Dua in Islam. It includes:

  • Start with the name of Allah (S.W.T.)
  • Recite the specific dua for that particular need
  • End with durud (sending peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad  ﷺ)

Remember, you can always recite the travelling dua straightaway if you prefer. This isn’t a strict rule, just a way to make your journey more blessed.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is neither might nor power except with Allah.

O Allah! Behold I ask You the good through Your Knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your favor) out of Your infinite Bounty. For surely You have Power; I have none. You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things.  O Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter be good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your Knowledge, this matter be bad for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away there from, and ordain for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased therewith.

Five Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

Prayers for Traveling

Last updated on November 17th, 2021 at 08:40 am

Have you ever found yourself on the plane ready to take off, but unable to find your booklet of prayers for traveling? Often we find ourselves without access to these special duas or prayers when we need them the most. In our opinion, memorizing duas is the best solution.

One of the beautiful things about Islam is that there is a prayer for our normal daily activities and even prayers for traveling abroad .  When we embark on a journey, we should recite a prayer to Allah and remember Him. It brings us closer to Allah and also saves us from any untoward incident that may take place on our journey.

As per Islamic teachings, reciting a dua not only brings Allah’s protection; it also mobilizes angels to protect us during our journey and bring us safely back home to our loved ones.

Below are the five common duas that Muslims recite before journeys, complete with Arabic verse, dua transliteration, source, and explanation.

1. Prayer for Safety When Embarking on Travel

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarokan wa anta khairul munzilin
  • English Translation: My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing-place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].
  • Source: Surah Al Muminun ayat 29

When embarking on travel, this dua is recited to protect oneself from any mishap and to ensure a safe landing. When you recite this dua, you will feel calmer and less anxious about your upcoming trip.

It is always helpful to start a journey by remembering Allah. This prayer is useful to keep with you whenever you are packing for your trip so that you can easily recite it once you leave your home or on the plane.

This prayer asks Allah to protect us when traveling abroad . It also helps us proclaim our faith and affirm the fact that there is no one that can protect us except Allah.

2. Prayer for Safety During the Trip

  • Arabic Verse:
  • English Translation: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.
  • Source: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

This excerpt from Surah Az-Zukhruf is a masnoon prayer that thanks Allah for providing us with the means of transportation to make our journey. This dua is short and can be easily memorized so that it becomes a habit to recite it when on a journey.

The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) recited this Surah as dua when he would mount an animal for traveling . He would say Bismillah and then recite this prayer for travel safety . We may be traveling by car, plane, train, or boat; whatever the means of transportation is, it is always important to remember Allah during our journey.

3. Prayer for Traveling to a New Place

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Wa-qul Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa
  • English Translation: O Lord, cause me to enter a goodly entrance and cause me to go out a goodly exit, and grant me from you an authority to assist (me).
  • Source: Sura Al-‘Isra 17:80

The prophet (ﷺ) was in Makkah and had to emigrate to Madinah when Allah revealed this verse. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was being attacked by individuals in Makkah and was preparing to enter a new place.

This verse asks for Allah’s protection when taking a big decision and traveling to a new place. This decision could be anything from moving to a new city to even moving to a new home. In this prayer, we are asking Allah to bless our entrance and exit. We are looking for His assistance and blessing while we take this decision.

4. Prayer upon Reaching Destination Safely

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Va kealarkaboo feehea bismilleahi macreahea va murseahea, inna raabbee la gaafoorun raaheem
  • English Translation: Embark there in! In the name of Allah be its course or its mooring. Lo! My Lord is Forgiving and Merciful!
  • Source: Surah Al-Hud – 11:41

This verse is from Sura Hud, which relays the trials and tribulations of Prophet Noah allehisalam. Prophet Noah was commanded by Allah to create a ship and load it with two creatures (male and female) of every living thing that had a soul.

When the command came to leave on the ship, a strong storm came that brought heavy rainfall. This verse was then revealed at that time and means that the moving course and resting (anchorage) of the ship will be all in Allah’s hands.

This is a specific verse in the Surah and is often used when someone reaches their destination safely. It is a small and short prayer that can be memorized easily when traveling abroad and after you have reached your destination.

5. Prayer Upon Returning Home

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Ayibun, ta’ibun, ‘abidun, sajidun, lirabbina hamidun
  • English Translation: We return, repentant, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord.
  • Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3084

This short prayer for travel safety is part of a longer verse that the Holy Prophet would recite upon returning from his journeys. After he came back from a journey, he would say Allah u Akbar three times and then recite this dua.

It is important not to forget Allah once we have returned safely to our homes. Often we only remember Allah when we are starting our journey or when we are in the process of traveling. But we should be grateful to Allah once we return safe and sound.

This dua only has a few words and can be easily learned by heart so that you can recite it quickly once you return home safely after traveling abroad.

Now You Know the 5 Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

We can see that all of the prayers for traveling safety are not very long and can be remembered very easily. One should understand that when you are traveling, you are putting yourself in the trust of Allah and his powers.

Only Allah can decide what our fate is, but by saying prayers before we start our journey, during the journey, and when we reach home, we are affirming the fact that we believe in Allah’s power to protect us from harm.

The supplication of traveler either by plane or car is answered by Allah, and it is recommended to supplicate a lot for yourself, to make your journey easier, to relieve your distress, to provide you with useful knowledge and good sustenance.

And there is no doubt that travel for the sake of obedience and closeness to Allah is more deserving of the answer than mere permissible travel.

This is due to the fact that obedience to Allah is one of reasons for the supplication to be answered.

However, the hadiths indicate the generality of travel, whether it is for obedience or just permissible matters, is one of the reasons for the supplication to be answered.

The passenger on the plane must be keen on the dua for travel, then he must first: take the initiative to repent from all sins and disobedience, and depart from people’s grievances.

The author of riyadus Saliheen, may Allah shower blessings on him, restricted the supplication to when one mounts a ride to begin a journey.

However, the apparent meaning of the noble verse suggests that it is general.

That is, whenever a person mounts a beast, car or ship to travel or otherwise, he should say what Allah, Honored and Glorious, has mentioned.

Hadith On Dua For Travelling

It is mentioned in the hadith of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that whenever the Prophet SAW mounted his beast to set out on a journey, he would recite some words of remembrance.

Ibn Umar reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah SAW mounted his camel for setting out on a journey, he would recite: Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest),” thrice.

Then he SAW would supplicate:

Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nasalukafi safarina hadh al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-dmali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin ‘alaina safarana hadha, watwi ‘anna budahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibufissafari, wal-Khalifatu fd-ahli. Allahumma inni audhu bika min wata’is- safari, wa kaabatil-manzari, wa suil-munqalabi fil-mali wal- ahli wal-waladi.

  • Far removed from imperfection is the One Who has made this subservient to us, for we have no power to subjugate it, and certainly to our Rubb shall we return.
  • O Allah, we ask You during this journey of ours for righteousness, piety and such deeds as are pleasing to You.
  • O Allah, make easy for us this journey of ours and make the distance short for us.
  • O Allah, You are our Companion during the journey and the Guardian of the family and the property in our absence.
  • O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travelling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes and evil turns in property and family).”

When he returned, he recited this supplication making addition of these words:

Ayibuna, ta’ibuna, ‘abiduna, li-Rabbina hamidun (We are those who return; those who repent; those who worship and those who praise our Rubb ).”

[Muslim 1342]

Abdullah bin Sarjis reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah SAW proceeded on a journey, he would seek refuge in Allah from the hardships of the journey, and against deviation after guidance, and against the supplication of the oppressed, and occurrences of unpleasant events in the family and property.

[Muslim 1343]

Dua For Travelling In Plane

This hadeeth are related to words of remembrance when a person mounts his ride to begin a journey.

Also, a person should seek refuge from the hardships of travelling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes and evil turns in property and family.

He should also seek refuge from the supplication of the oppressed, ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy, praise Allah (by saying:

Alhamdulillah [Praise be to Allah]) thrice and magnify Allah (by saying Allah Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]) thrice.

To make this remembrance in the exact wordings narrated from the Prophet It is best and preferred.

Otherwise, one may supplicate with any easy words if it is impossible to remember the exact wordings.

Desirability Of Supplications During The Journey Hadith

Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said,

Three supplications are answered without doubt.

  • The supplication of the oppressed
  • The supplication of the traveller, and
  • The supplication of the parent for his son.”

[At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]

The traveler is detached from his homeland, and he remains a traveler till he returns to it (i.e. his homeland).

The supplication of a traveler usually is that of one in need.

Whenever a person is in need and supplicates to his Lord, his prayer will most likely be answered.

This is because Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, responds to the supplication of the one in difficult situation and the supplication of the one in need more than the supplications of others.

The hadeeth of the three supplications which are answered without doubt:

  • The supplication of the oppressed.

The supplication of the traveler.

  • The supplication of a parent.

May Allah grant us success.

Muslims worldwide understand the importance of performing the 5 obligatory prayers as commanded by Allah Almighty for a life of purpose and meaning. However, Islam is an all-encompassing religion that goes much beyond that, covering effectively all possible aspects of life. As such, it is crucial to seek Allah's blessings and protection before setting off on any journey, whether alone or with family. Islam permits travel for Muslims when their intentions for doing so are pure.

A few vital duas for travelling are to be performed regardless of the mode of transport, whether car, aeroplane, or train. They ensure safety and peace of mind, as one cannot foretell what might happen once they travel to another part of the country or the world. It is to seek a safe return and a fruitful journey from the merciful Allah.

As you recite dua for travelling , keep your mind focussed on Allah and believe without a doubt that He is the only one who can keep you safe from all harm.

What the Holy Quran Says about Travelling

The sacred and Islamic book of Holy Quran teaches Muslims the meaning and purpose of life, guiding them in the way they should behave, think, and live. It addresses all life aspects, allowing believers to imbibe the right spirit and attitude to be an example in the world.

The Holy book states that the world is a temporary place, and that all people are consistently in a state of travel. But it also mentions travelling in the physical sense ample times, using the word "sayir" to refer to a traveller. Literally translated, the word means to travel or move. The word is used 27 times in the Holy book by Allah, signifying the importance of journeying with the right intent.

Even the Holy Prophet (pbuh) stressed on the significance of travelling, indicating to believers that it is an excellent way to broaden horizons and gain more knowledge.

Arabic Dua for Travelling With English Translation

A Muslim can turn his travelling into worship by reciting the dua of journey and following some very easy Sunnah of travelling. The dua for travelling can be easily memorized when you recite it on a regular basis. We should also encourage our children to memorize these dua and remind them to recite them when they set out on a journey. Insha-Allah, the journey that starts with the remembrance of Allah will be blessed and safe.

Dua for Travelling

Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to say Bismillah when he would mount on an animal for travelling. He then recited the following verse of the Quran:

Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

Meaning: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return. Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

Thereafter, he recited Alhamdulillah (all praises be to Allah) 3 times and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) 3 times. He then recited the following dua:

After reciting the above dua, he used to look at the sky and smile. When his companion asked him why he smiles after reciting this dua, he informed them that Allah becomes happy with the person who recites this dua so the prophet smiled to express his happiness as well. (Mishkaat)

It is advisable to say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) when going upward during a journey and saying SubhanAllah when descending. Al-Bukhari narrated in his Saheeh that Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we went up we would say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and when we went down we would say tasbeeh (Subhan Allah).

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.)’s blessed habit was to return from a journey during chasth time (before noon) within the city. He would first go to the Masjid, perform two rakaats Salaats. Thereafter he would stay in the Masjid for a little while and then go home. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) loved to journey on Thursdays. (Bukhari)

When the prophet would return back from a journey, he recited the following dua:

Transliteration: Ayiboona taiboona ‘abidoona li rabbina hamidoon.

Meaning: “Returning, repenting, worshipping and praising our Lord).” (Sahih Muslim)

Whoever reaches his destination and says: I seek refuge in the perfect words of God from the evil of what He has created, nothing will harm him until he moves from his home [ Saheeh Muslim]

Dua for travelling 13

Nafl Prayer (salah) after reaching destination.

Abu Huraira reported: The Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad ( Sallallaho alahay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam) said:

When you leave your home, pray two cycles to prevent you from an evil exit. When you enter your home, pray two cycles to prevent you from an evil entrance

It should be noted that  Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam)  used to pray 2 Rakah non obligatory (Nafal) prayer in a mosque whenever he (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam)   used to come back from a journey. If we cannot find a mosque, then we can pray it at home also.

Important information for travelling in Islam

The best day to start travelling.

It was narrated from Hazrat Ka’b that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) rarely traveled except on Thursdays. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34303]

Early morning is the best time to start travel

Early morning is the best time to start travelling in Islam. Hazrat Sakhr al-Ghamdi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed: O Allah! grant  “Barakah” (increased blessing) to my Ummah in their morning hours. When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to send an army or army ,he  (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to send them early morning. There was a merchant named Sakhar, his nephew, who used to send a convoy (of goods) in the morning for trade. It had increased a lot. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34305]

First thing to do after coming back

Pray 2 rakah salah whenever you come back from travelling . It is better to pray these 2 rakah in a mosque . But if not possible, then you can pray it at home also. Both Ahadith are mentioned below.

Hazrat Ka’b bin Malik says that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to come back from travelling at the time of Chasht on the day and when he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) came back, he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to go to the mosque first and offer rak’at prayers.

Hazrat Jabir says that when we returned from a journey with the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) , he asked me, O Jabir! Have you prayed Salah? I said no. He (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) said then pray two rakats Salah. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 4918]

Forbidden time to come back home

It was narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) said that : that when one of you returns from travelling, he should not come to his family at night. Hazrat Jabir ra says that by God we used to come home after the night had passed. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34334]

Men should try to travel in a group of three

Always travel with someone. Do not travel alone unless you do not have any other option

Lady should not travel alone

References of ahadith mentioned in this post.

The Messenger of  Allah (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) said: If you go out of your house, pray two units of prayer that prevent you from a bad exit, and if you enter your house, pray two units of prayer that prevent you from a bad entrance. (Narrated by Al-Bazzar and others)

Whoever says, i.e., when he leaves his house: In the name of God, I put my trust in God, there is no might and no power but with God, it will be said to him: You have been sufficed and protected, and Satan has moved away from him. [ Saheeh Bokhari ]

It was narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Sarjis that when the Prophet ﷺ used to go on a journey, he used to recite this supplication: Allah humma inni Auzubika bin Wa Saail-Safari wa Kaabatil Munqalibi wal Hauri Badal Kaur wa Dawatal Mazloom wa Soo Al Manzari Fil Ahle wal Maal O Allah, I seek refuge in you from the troubles of the journey, the sufferings of the return, the degradation after promotion, the curse of the oppressor and the sight of any bad scene in the family or wealth. [Masnad Ahmad]

Ali bin Rabi’ah says: I was with Ali, he was given an animal to ride, and when he put his foot in the stirrup, he said  3 times:  “Bismillah” (“In the name of Allah”) I am riding in the name of Allah, and then When he sat down on his back, he said: “Alhamdulillah” Praise be to Allah.” Then he read the following verse of Quran.Glory be to the One Who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own . Glory be to the One Who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own [ Surah Zukhruf verse 13-14 ] then said “Alhamdulillah” three times, and said “Allahu Akbar” three times, then Recite this dua: “There is no God except you, Subhananak, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for He does not forgive sins except you.” You are pure, O Allah! Indeed, I have wronged my life, so forgive me, because there is no one who forgives wrongdoing except You , then Ali laughed, I said: Ameerul Momineen, what did you laugh at? He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ he did the same as I have done, then he laughed, I asked: Messenger of Allah! What did you laugh at? He said: Your Lord is pleased with the speech of His servant when he says: O Allah, forgive my sins, for there is none who can forgive sins except You.

It was narrated from Hazrat Ka’b that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) rarely traveled except on Thursdays . [ Masnaf Ibn Abi Shaiba 34303]

Hazrat Sakhr al-Ghamdi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed: O Allah! Bless my ummah in the morning hours. When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to send an army or army, in the morning there was a merchant named Sakhar, his nephew, who used to send a convoy (of goods) in the morning for trade. It had increased a lot. [Masnaf Ibn Abi Shayba 34305]

Hazrat Jabir says that when we returned from a journey with the Holy Prophet[صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم], he asked me, O Jabir! Have you prayed? I said no. He[صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم] said then read two rakats . [ Masnaf Ibn Abi Shayba 4918]

Sayyidina Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Allah’s Messsenger(صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم)said, “When one of you ends up at an assembly, let him offer salaam. If he seems inclined to sit then let him sit down. Thereafter, when he stands up, he must offer salaam. And the first (salaam) is not more rightful than the last .” [ Jamia Tirimzi 2706]]

Dua For Travelling

Dua for travel travelling

One of the best things about Islam is that we have dua almost everything. From eating, sitting, sleeping, and even traveling. There can be many benefits for us to reciting duas.

Benefits Of Dua For Travelling

Whenever a Muslim travels or steps out of the home for a journey, whether it is a short distance or long distance traveling, we recite some duas. So we can have a safe journey and receive the blessings of Almighty Allah.

  • If a person recites dua for traveling, then the Angels protect you while you get back home.
  • Reciting dua when traveling can save an individual from incidents that one has never imagined.
  • By reciting dua, a person is more likely to perform good deeds and have a positive day ahead.
  • Allah grants the traveler ease in his journey.
  • Reciting duas leads to blessings from Allah.

Hundreds of thousands of people usually die because of traffic accidents in bikes, cars, planes, etc., all across the world, so traveling can be quite fatal. As we grew up, we heard about a lot of plane crashes and other dangerous events. So we need to seek help from Allah to stay protected and safe, and he is the only one who can protect us from dangerous hazards and accidents.

We must also try our best to minimize our traveling unless it is necessary or urgent as Muslims. We need to recite duas more often so we can stay blessed and safe from the curse of shaitan at the same time.

Main Du’a for Travelling

After you have boarded your means of transport, whether it is a car, bus or plane, recite the du’a below. Abdullah ibn Umar I reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would straighten up on his camel when setting out on a journey he said:

Second Du’a for Travelling

Abdullah ibn Sarjis I reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on journey he would say:

Allāhumma anta s-sāhibu fi s-safar, wa l-khalīfatu fi l-ahl. Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min waʿthā’i s-safar, wa ka’ābati-l-munqalab, wa mina l-hawri baʿda l-kawn, wa min daʿwati l-mazlūma, wa min sū’i l-manẓari fi l-ahli wa l-māl.

Third Du’a for Travelling

Husayn ibn Ali I reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed the recitation of the following Quranic verse when boarding transport:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا، إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Bismi Llāhi majrāhā wa mursāhā, inna rabbī la-ghafūrur-raḥīm.

When Ascending or Descending

There are two supplications that can be recited when ascending or descending.

Ibn Umar I reported that when the Prophet ﷺ returned from Hajj, Umrah or a military expedition, whenever he climbed a hill or hillock he said takbīr thrice, followed by:

Lā ilāha illa Llāhu wahdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu l-mulk, wa lahu l-ḥamd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr. Ā’ibūnā tā’ibūna, ʿābidūna sājidūna li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn. Ṣadaqa Llāhu waʿdah, wa naṣara ʿabdah, wa hazama l-aḥzāba waḥdah.

Anas I narrated that when the Prophet ﷺ ascended to a high place in the land he would say:

اللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ الشَّرَفُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرَفٍ ❁ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ

Allāhumma laka sh-sharafu ʿalā kulli sharafin, wa laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā kulli ḥāl.

Disembarking from Transport

After you have disembarked from your means of transport, recite this du’a:

رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ

Rabbi anzilnī munzalān mubārakān wa anta khayru l-munzilīn.

Approaching a Town

Upon approaching a town or city during your journey, recite the following du’a. Suhayb I related that the Prophet ﷺ did not see any village he was about to enter without saying:

Aisha J said that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked upon a region he was about to enter he would say:

Allāhumma innī as’aluka min khayri hādhihi wa khayri mā jamiʿta fīhā, wa aʿūdhu bikā min sharrihā wa sharri mā jamiʿtu fīhā. Allāhumma-rzuqnā ḥayāhā, wa aʿidhnā min wabāhā, wa ḥabbibnā ilā ahlihā, wa ḥabbib ṣāliḥī ahlihā ilaynā.

Stopping for the Night

If you stop at night during your journey, recite the following du’a. Khawlah bint Hakim J reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever dismounts at a place and says the following, nothing will harm him until he sets off again from that place.’

Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti Llāhi t-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

Umar ibn al-Khattab I reported that when the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was travelling, as night was approaching he would say:

Yā arḍu rabbī wa Rabbuki Llāh. A‘ūdhu bi Llāhi min sharriki wa sharri mā fīk, wa sharri mā khuliqa fīk, wa sharri mā yadubba ʿalayk. Aʿūdhu bi Llāhi min asadin wa aswad, wa min al-ḥayyati wa l-ʿaqrab, wa min sākini l-balad, wa min wālidin wa mā walad.

Returning Home

Upon returning home after your journey, recite the following.

Ȧ’ibūna tā’ibūna ‘ābidūn, li-rabbinā ḥamidūn.

Anas I narrated: “We returned with the Prophet ﷺ, Abū Talhah and I, and Safiyyah was riding behind him on his she-camel. When we were close to Madinah he said: ‘Returning, repenting, worshipping, praising our Lord.’ He continued to say that until we reached Madinah.”

Ibn Abbas I related that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey and went to his family, he would say:

تَوْباً تَوْباً ❁ لِرَبِّنَا أَوْباً ❁ لاَ يُغَادِرُ حَوْباً

Tawban tawbā, li-rabbinā awbā, lā yughādiru ḥawbā.

What to Do When Your Plane Is Diverted — Including How to Claim Compensation

Here's what happens when your plane is diverted — and how to handle the situation — according to experts.

duas for travelling on plane

Tobias Titz/Getty Images

You’re on a flight, and everything is going smoothly. Then, there’s an announcement that the plane is being diverted and will be landing at an airport that’s not your final destination. Now what?

A diverted flight is simply one that lands at an airport that wasn’t the intended destination.

Plane diversions — whether due to weather, mechanical issues, medical emergencies, or even unruly passengers — aren’t common, but they do happen. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics , 0.24 percent of flights were diverted in 2023.

Margot Cavin/Travel + Leisure

What to Know If Your Plane Is Diverted

If your flight is diverted, it’s important to stay calm and pay attention to announcements and information provided by the crew. Once you land, there are a couple of scenarios that could occur, depending on why your plane was diverted in the first place.

First, the problem could be fixed and you may continue on to your destination on the same plane, with only minor delays. Alternatively, the diverted flight could be canceled . In that situation, the airline will most likely put you on the next available flight. Unfortunately, that flight may be the following day, resulting in an overnight delay. When that happens, it’s good to be proactive.

“Know backup flight options, and communicate with the airline over social media or text message as soon as you know what you want to do so you can grab any spare seats before other passengers do,“ says James Larounis, founder of The Forward Cabin and senior content contributor at Upgraded Points .

“For example, I was recently on a flight from Chicago to Washington Reagan, where we diverted to Raleigh due to severe weather in D.C. Luckily for me, there are many flights between Raleigh and D.C., and even though the airline scheduled me for an afternoon flight the next day, there were earlier options to get me back home.”

Compensation Eligibility If Your Plane Is Diverted

Until recently, if you were flying domestically and your plane was diverted, the airline wasn’t required to compensate you.

However, the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced new, customer-friendly rules on April 24, 2024. Now, passengers are entitled to a cash refund if their flight is canceled or significantly changed, as long as they don’t accept any transportation or travel credits. According to the DOT, “significant changes” include any of the following:

  • Departure or arrival times that are more than three hours domestically and six hours internationally
  • Departures or arrivals from a different airport
  • An increased number of connections
  • Downgrades to a lower class of service
  • Connections at different airports or flights on different planes that are less accessible or accommodating for passengers with a disability

While not required by the federal government, many airlines have policies in place to cover additional expenses , including food, overnight accommodations, and transportation for stranded customers in situations with delays and cancellations that are within the airline’s control.

Prasert Krainukul/Getty Images

All 10 major U.S. airlines (Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, and United) have committed to rebooking passengers on the same airline at no additional cost and will provide meal vouchers when a cancellation results in a wait of more than three hours.

All but one of these airlines — Frontier — will cover the cost of overnight accommodations when a passenger is stranded overnight.

If you’re in a situation where your plane was diverted, and the airline staff at the airport isn’t offering meal or hotel vouchers, save your receipts from these expenses and submit them after the trip. While not required, many airlines will reimburse expenses like these.

“If a [Southwest] flight is diverted and unable to reach its destination, Southwest will work to provide lodging and vouchers to customers. If those are not provided, customers may submit reasonable reimbursement requests for out-of-pocket expenses,” a representative from Southwest Airlines shared in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure via email.

American is another airline that commits to reimbursing reasonable expenses resulting from a diversion that's in their control. According to the airline’s website, if your flight was diverted and you don’t board another one to your final destination before 11:59 p.m., the airline will provide a hotel voucher, transportation to and from the hotel, and meal vouchers (if you are in the diverted city for more than three hours.) If these aren’t provided, customers can request reimbursement for reasonable costs.

The rules regarding passenger compensation are different if you’re flying within the European Union, flying to the E.U. on an E.U. airline, or flying from the E.U. on any airline.

In these instances, passengers are entitled to reimbursement or rerouting based on regulation EU261 .

Travel Insurance

Will travel insurance , whether via a purchased policy or an option through your credit card, cover expenses if your plane is diverted? It depends, but generally, the answer is yes.

According to Larounis, it’s smart to consider your credit card insurance policy for unreimbursed expenses. “If your airline doesn’t cover the hotel, you’ll want to use a trip delay or cancellation insurance with your credit card to pick up the tab,“ he told T+L.

For example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card comes with a reimbursement policy that kicks in after a trip on a common carrier (like an airplane) is delayed six hours or requires an overnight stay. The cardholder and immediate family members are entitled to reimbursement up to $500 per ticket for expenses like a hotel and meals.

If you’re in a situation where your plane is diverted and the airline isn't offering hotel, meal, or transportation vouchers, save all receipts from any expenses you incur. Once you’re home, you can request reimbursement from the airline first. If you don’t get a response, you can then turn to your travel insurance policy.

Tips to Handle a Diversion Like a Pro

  • Pack all the essentials you might need if your flight is delayed or diverted, including medications, chargers, and baby supplies, plus items for an unexpected overnight stay, like a change of clothes and a toothbrush. Be sure to stash these things in your carry-on bag, not checked luggage.
  • If there are long lines at the airport customer service desk, try changing your flight via phone, the airline’s mobile app, or social media accounts (sending a DM to the airline’s customer service team via X is a great place to start).
  • If accommodations, transportation, and meals aren’t provided by the airline, save all of your receipts for expenses incurred so you can submit them for reimbursement once you arrive at your destination.
  • Always book your flights with a credit card that offers travel protection. Credit card insurance policies can be quite robust, often eliminating the need for a separate policy. The Chase Sapphire Reserve , Capital One Venture X , and Amex Platinum cards are all excellent options.

Video shows FedEx cargo plane land on its nose in Istanbul after landing gear fails

duas for travelling on plane

A Boeing-767 type cargo plane operated by FedEx ran into a couple of bumps and sparks as it attempted to land at Istanbul Airport in Turkey without its front landing gear Wednesday.

The cargo plane, operated by FedEx, was flying from Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to a statement by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu , when the pilot of the aircraft informed the control tower at Istanbul Airport that its landing gear had failed to open. The official said airport officials sprang into action and assisted the aircraft in touching down, while managing to remain on the runway. Emergency response, medical teams and necessary fire extinguishing equipment was also deployed on standby, Uraloğlu said.

Video footage from the landing shows the plane touching down on the runway before it tilts forward and starts dragging on its nose the runway creating a cloud of dust and sparks. It eventually comes to a stop with its fuselage touching the ground. As the plane comes to a halt, fire trucks douse the plane with water.

"With the successful guidance of our staff, the aircraft landed smoothly on its fuselage," Uraloğlu said.

No injuries reported

Two pilots were onboard the aircraft, according to Uraloğlu's statement, and were medically assessed after the landing. No injuries were reported.

The runway where the plane had landed was temporarily closed for all flights as multiple agencies gathered on site. A video shared by the minister shows crews and officials gathered around the aircraft while a fire truck and ambulance are parked on the side.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, said Uraloğlu without going into further details into why the landing gear had failed.

Another Boeing plane issue? Don't fall for the headlines.

The freight aircraft involved in the accident is nearly 10 years old and was delivered to FedEx in 2014, according to a Boeing spokesperson. Following delivery, operators oversee ongoing maintenance for airplanes in operation. Reuters reported that Boeing 767 freighter is one of the most common cargo planes.

FedEx, meanwhile, in a statement to USA TODAY, said that the FedEx Express Flight 6268 was flying from Paris to Istanbul when it experienced an issue during landing.

"There were no reported injuries to our crew members," FedEx said. "We are coordinating with investigation authorities and will provide additional information as it is available."

While Boeing incidents have been in the news in recent months after a series of high-profile incidents, aviation experts maintain you shouldn't worry about flying .

“We don’t have to worry that there’s something systemically wrong with aviation,” Clint Balog, an associate professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, previously told USA TODAY.

Trump’s Jet Clipped a Parked Plane in Florida

No one was injured in the incident, which happened while the jet was taxiing early Sunday, the F.A.A. said. On Wednesday, the former president was traveling on a different plane.

A blue-and-red plane with “Trump” on its side and an American flag on tail is parked on an airport tarmac. A large control tower is behind it.

Former President Donald J. Trump landed in Cincinnati on Wednesday for a campaign fund-raiser, but without his ubiquitous Boeing 757, which had clipped a parked plane as it was taxiing at a Florida airport early on Sunday morning.

It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Trump was aboard his plane at the time of the mishap, according to details released by the Federal Aviation Administration and public information about the two aircraft that were involved. The incident happened several hours after Mr. Trump held a campaign rally at the Jersey Shore .

No injuries were reported, according to the F.A.A.’s notice about the incident , which listed the Boeing’s registration number as N757AF .

That is the same tail number as “Trump Force One,” the moniker for Mr. Trump’s airliner, which regularly shuttles the former president to campaign rallies and court appearances. The aircraft has been a source of braggadocio for Mr. Trump over the years — not to mention speculation about whether it might be seized as part of his civil fraud penalty in New York.

But on Wednesday, the aircraft was conspicuously absent as Mr. Trump descended from a considerably smaller private jet at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Mr. Trump’s campaign did not respond to questions about the status of his plane.

According to the F.A.A., a Boeing 757 landed at Palm Beach International Airport at about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday and was taxiing when one of its winglets struck the rear elevator of a parked plane. A winglet is a small tip curving off the end of an aircraft’s wing in order to reduce aerodynamic drag.

No one was inside the parked plane, which was registered to VistaJet, a private charter company, the F.A.A. said in a statement , adding that the incident occurred in an area of the airfield where the agency does not direct aircraft. The agency said it was investigating the incident.

According to the F.A.A.’s aircraft registry, the Boeing plane is registered to DJT Operations I LLC, one of the companies Mr. Trump owned and resigned from at the beginning of 2017, when he became president.

The agency did not say how much damage the two planes sustained or specify the type of VistaJet aircraft that was involved. VistaJet did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

Mr. Trump, who is in New York several days each week for a criminal trial related to a hush-money payment , lives just a few miles from the Palm Beach International Airport, at Mar-a-Lago, his private club.

He has frequently used airport tarmacs and hangars as a setting for his campaign rallies, saving him time and giving his supporters a chance to cheer on the plane’s approach.
