Green Day shared, “We’ve never been more excited to unleash new music than with Saviors, a record that’s meant to be rocked live, together.  So let’s thrash.  We’ve got some amazing friends who are coming along for the ride!”    The tour will be a larger-than-life, career-spanning celebration of one of the biggest musical acts of all time and some of the most important albums in history. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Green Day’s 1994 certified Diamond album, Dookie, and the 20th anniversary of 2004’s juggernaut, American Idiot. Each a cultural phenomenon in its own right, these albums have remained at the forefront of punk culture since their release. With blazing guitars and electrifying vocals, Green Day are ready to bring their mind-blowing collection of hits to stadiums across the country, along with plenty of additions from their newly announced album, Saviors.   Green Day began dropping hints about their soon-to-be 14th studio album, Saviors, at a surprise show at Las Vegas’ Fremont Country Club, surrounded by a crowd of 800 die-hard fans. During their Las Vegas takeover, which also included commanding headline performances at When We Were Young festival, the band debuted two killer new tracks: the first single “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and the brand new “Look Ma, No Brains!,” out today. Watch the accompanying video HERE, directed by Ryan Baxley and Brendan Walter. Fans got another chance to hear the new music during Green Day’s headlining Amazon Music Live concert series performance on October 26, which included the two releases along with crowd favorites from their extensive discography. With a brand new album and a nationwide stadium tour on the horizon, Green Day are ready for total domination.

ABOUT GREEN DAY  Formed in 1986 in Berkeley, CA, Green Day is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide and 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams. The five-time Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees released their breakout album Dookie in 1994, which sold over 10 million and achieved 10x Platinum Diamond status, is widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock, catapulting a career-long run of #1 hit singles. Entertainment Weekly calls Green Day, “The most influential band of their generation,” while Rolling Stone attests, “Green Day have inspired more young bands to start than any act this side of Kiss, and that doesn't seem to be changing.” In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera American Idiot which captured the nation’s attention, selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Mojo declared “It's exhilarating stuff, the kind of record that sets new parameters as to what is possible from a punk rock'n'roll band in the 21st century.” In 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway to critical and commercial acclaim.  Released in 2020, Green Day’s thirteenth studio album Father Of All...debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Album Sales Chart and #1 in both the U.K. and Australia. Pitchfork declared, “Green Day’s most fetching and youthful songs in ages. The trio sounds reinvigorated, more like hungry newcomers staking their claim.” In July 2021, Green Day embarked on The Hella Mega Tour (w/ Fall Out Boy & Weezer). The global tour included 29 sold-out stadium gigs – including renowned venues like London Stadium and Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.  On October 24, the band announced the release  of their highly anticipated 14th studio album, Saviors, coming January 19, ‘24 and released their brand new single, “The American Dream Is Killing Me.”

Review: green day’s rocking hella mega tour offers respite from pandemic .

Green Day performs Aug. 11, 2021, at Detroit's Comerica Park. Photo by Mike Ferdinande

“We’ve had to look at our (expletive) phones all during this (expletive) pandemic,” Armstrong declared. “Now we get to be together. … This is unity!”

The Hella Mega Tour — also featuring Fall Out Boy, Weezer and the Interrupters — was, in fact, all about returning to normalcy, or the latest incarnation of it, amidst continually trying times of COVID. Of all the concerts since live music returned in force this summer, the stadium-sized spectacle was the most overt celebration yet, right from the Interrupters’ Kevin Bivona asking, “Detroit, Michigan, how does it feel to be at a concert right now?!” through to the fireworks display that ended Green Day’s set nearly five and a half hours later.

The tour — which was originally booked for 2020 — did not need to be reminded that the pandemic is still present tense, of course; Fall Out Boy returned to the stage Tuesday after missing three previous shows due to an unspecified team member’s infection. But it was an opportunity to put concerns on their own kind of pause, at least for a few hours, and enjoy a communal night of noisy big fun.

And to be reminded that rock ‘n’ roll could still be a force to be reckoned with. Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz told the 35,000 or so at Comerica’s second concert in three days (after Guns N’ Roses on Sunday) that Hella Mega was organized to face down skeptics who felt the genre was no longer a strong draw. “We decided to challenge that theory and put together the biggest (expletive) rock tour this summer,” Wentz said. “We think it’s pretty (expletive) evident the kids still listen to rock ‘n’ roll.”

Few bands prove that better, on a consistent basis, than Green Day, and Tuesday night was no exception. A band that’s willing to do anything it thinks will entertain, including pyrotechnics and confetti, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trio and its three additional musicians had Comerica Park singing along to every word of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” before it hit the stage, then had the stadium shaking as it cranked into “American Idiot.” The ebullient Armstrong led the charge through choreographed craziness — pulling a fan on stage at one point to play guitar during a cover of Operation Ivy’s “Knowledge,” then to a stage dive back into the crowd — and plenty of call-and-response chants.

And the parade of hits — “Longview,” “Welcome to Paradise,” “Basket Case,” “Minority,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” a cover of Kiss’ “Rock and Roll All Nite,” et al — had the crowd singing almost as much as Armstrong himself.

Green Day did skew a bit deeper within the fusillade, however. Lyrics such as “It’s wonderful to be alive. … Everything is gonna be all right” from “Pollyanna” felt more meaningful in the context of current circumstances, and Armstrong took more than a few opportunities during the nearly 100-minute set to declare that “We’re still alive!” and note, “We all waited out this (expletive) pandemic, but now we all get to be together.”

Fall Out Boy was clearly happy to be back on the road, with Wentz acknowledging that “this week has been a bit of a cluster… for our band.” He acknowledged the support the band had received from fans, and the quartet’s hour-long set, fortified with regular bursts of fire, played as a faux “space opera,” complete with a narrator on screen and scenery changes. More effective was the 14-song set list, another hit-filled affair that reached back for “Where Is Your Boy” — which frontman Patrick Stump said the band played at the Shelter during its early days — and rocked through favorites such as “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down,” “Uma Thurman,” “Thanks fr th Mmrs,” “Centuries,” “Dance, Dance,” “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” and more.

green day tour michigan

Weezer’s hour — which followed the Interrupters’ short blast of ska-flavored frenzy — sported a few songs from its pair of 2021 albums “OK Human” and “Van Weezer” but mostly tripped down memory lane as well. With frontman Rivers Cuomo decked out like Ron Burgundy in gym class, complete with headband and tube socks, the group laid power chord-heavy alt.rock such as “Hash Pipe” and “Beverly Hills” next to more measured fare like “My Name is Jonas,” “Undone — The Sweater Song” and “Say It Ain’t So.” Its spookily faithful take on Toto’s “Africa” whipped up a frenzy among those who were a long way from being born when it first came out in 1982, while “Buddy Holly” had those same fans jumping along as confetti showered above the stadium floor.

All told, Hella Mega was a welcome and refreshing respite from the reality outside Comerica’s walls. And when Green Day’s Armstrong sang “I hope you had the time of your life” during the evening-ending “Good Riddance,” it had a different resonance than normal but still reflected exactly how everyone in the stadium was feeling at that moment.

Green Day's New Album Saviors

Green Day's new album is being called one of the most anticipated albums of 2024 .

In a statement,  Green Day said,

Saviors  is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years. It's raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record. Honesty and vulnerability. What is  Saviors  about, you ask? Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility... What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?

Here's how to get tickets to Michigan Central's grand reopening celebration

green day tour michigan

The historic Michigan Central Station will reopen to the public on June 6, and Michigan Central organizers announced details for the celebration and how people can get free tickets and tours.

According to Michigan Central, the "Michigan Central OPEN" celebration on June 6 will open with a 90-minute outdoor concert in front of the station headlined by well-known Detroit musical artists. The lineup has not yet been announced.

VIDEO: Watch more details about Michigan Central's celebration below:

It will also show short films, appearances by local leaders and creators from around the state.

Starting June 7-16, Michigan Central will host an OPEN House, giving people a first look inside the station's historic ground floor with a range of exhibits, entertainment, art and more.

Registration for OPEN Live and OPEN House will begin online at michigancentral.com on May 17 for neighbors surrounding Michigan Central Station, and on May 21 for the general public.

After its reopening event, the station will begin a phased-in reactivation of the building over the next several months as they add more restaurant, retail and other building tenants and partners.

According to organizers, the first floor will be open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays through August. Expanded hours will be announced in the fall when the first phase of commercial activations open to the public.

Ford acquired the historic building in 2018 and began a years-long restoration and rehabilitation project.

“I am truly excited to share the historic Michigan Central Station restoration with the entire Detroit community and beyond," said Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford. "This is a milestone we can all celebrate. Michigan Central Station was once a symbol of Detroit’s decline, and now it is going to represent its renewal and bright future. This monumental project has taken more than 1.7 million hours of work and reflects Ford's dedication to the community, Detroit's role in shaping the future of mobility, and the opportunities that our city, state, and region continue to offer.”

The station opened in 1913 and once considered one of the best train depots in the U.S., serving more than 4,000 passengers a day at its peak. It closed in 1988 and remained vacant until Ford purchased the property in 2018.

Officials say over the past six years, more than 3,100 skilled trade workers have worked over 1.7 million combined hours to restore the building.

When it's complete, it will include 640,000 square feet of retail, hospitality, community, and office spaces as part of Ford's innovation hub in Corktown.

“At Michigan Central, we’re harnessing Detroit’s long-standing leadership in mobility and economic innovation to create a thriving, global destination for accelerating bold ideas and new solutions that shape our shared future,” said Joshua Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central. “At the heart of this is The Station, an iconic building that now serves not just as a reminder of our city’s history, but a powerful catalyst for growth and opportunity.”

Mini golf courses in Michigan: 5 unique places to putt-putt

green day tour michigan

Michigan is known for beautiful golf courses such as Arcadia Bluffs and Bay Harbor Golf Club, but you can also find unique courses around the state on a smaller level.

Michigan has many miniature golf courses with cool designs and spectacular views. From meticulous and quirky designs to views of the Straits of Mackinac, these courses are worth a visit.

Here's a look at five of the state's standout miniature golf courses.

Miners Falls Mini Golf

A rock cave, unique obstructions and plenty of water features can be found at Miners Fall Mini Golf in Munising.

There's great attention to detail at the 18-hole course. The course has nine water obstacles, rivers, a pond, fountain and waterfall, according to its Facebook page .

The course also has ice cream flights to sweeten your visit.

Miners Falls Mini Golf opened Friday and typically closes Sept. 30, according to owner Josh Cole. Hours are 4-9 p.m. Thursday, 12-9 p.m. Saturday and 12-8 p.m. Sunday.

Where: 28 M-28, Munising

Into the Woods Mini Golf and Gardens

TripAdvisor calls Into the Woods Mini Golf and Gardens in Copper Harbor quirky. That's accurate.

Outhouses and toilets are part of the decor here. There are also miniature buildings, lighthouses and a freighter at the 18-hole course.

You may even be joined for a hole or two by ducks that live on the property.

The course received accolades this year when it was named as the best mini-golf in Michigan by Golf magazine .

You can celebrate the course with adult beverages after 3 p.m. — but you'll have to bring them yourself, and IDs are checked.

The cost to golf is $5 per person. Kids under 5 are free.

The course is open 12-7 p.m. every day of the season.

Where: 1028 Gratiot, Copper Harbor

The Greens of Mackinac

The Greens of Mackinac on Mackinac Island doesn't have any of the typical miniature golf course decorations. There are no obstacles to work around except for the slopes of the natural bent grass course.

You don't need the decorations, however, because you'll be too distracted by the beautiful view of the Straits of Mackinac.

The 18-hole putting course is located at Mission Point Resort .

After dusk, the course becomes Glow Golf with glow-in-the-dark golf balls, golf flag poles and neon glow sticks.

The course is open mid-May through September.

For Mission Point Resort guests, the cost to play is $13 for adults and $8 for children. For non-guests, it's $15 for adults and $10 for children. Glow Golf is the same price for guests and non-guests: $76 for adults and $12 for children.

The course is open daily, but weather dependent. Hours vary throughout the season.

Where:  6633 Main St., Mackinac Island

Willow Springs

Surrounded by lush greenery, you'll feel like you're in the middle of the forest while miniature golfing at Willow Springs in Lake Orion. Golfers can choose between two 18-hole courses — either woods or sport themed. The sports course features a waterfall and the woods course is where you'll get the forest feel.

The cost per person for 18 holes is $10 for ages 10 and older or $5 for children under 10.

Visitors can also play both courses. The cost is $15 per person for ages 10 and older or $10 for children under 10.

Where: 3120 S. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion

Cranbrook on the Green

Cranbrook on the Green opened in 2022 at the Cranbook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills.

It's a nine-hole miniature golf course with a bonus 10th hole.

All the artist-designed holes are inspired by a different element of Cranbook's campus and history.

The course's 2024 season runs May 4 through Sept. 22.

The hours of operation vary throughout the season:

  • May 4-26: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • May 29-Sept. 1: Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sept. 7-22: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The cost: $15 for adults, $10 for ArtMembers and Detroit residents, and $8 for children under 12. For 5 p.m. closures, the last tickets are sold at 4:15 p.m. For 7:30 p.m. closures, the last tickets are sold at 7:15 p.m.

Visitors are highly encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance via the museum's website . Each ticket also includes free admission to the museum's galleries. Check-in for the course is located at Knoll Walkway immediately adjacent to Triton Pool. Follow signs to the Art Museum parking lot.

Where: 39221 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills

The 11-day celebration includes an outdoor concert, open house hours and more. Here’s what’s planned and how to register.

Michigan Central OPEN Celebration

On June 6, Michigan Central will kick off the festivities with Michigan Central OPEN Live , a 90-minute outdoor concert in front of The Station headlined by well-known Detroit musical artists. We aren’t sure who the artists will be.

The show will feature short films, appearances by local leaders, and creators telling stories of innovation and culture from around the city and the region.

From June 7-16, Michigan Central will host its OPEN House , offering a first look inside the Station’s historic ground floor through a range of exhibits, entertainment, art, and more.

Michigan Central’s art program will also bring art installations, including a new iteration of Reddymade’s me + you, a critically acclaimed interactive sculpture specifically for Michigan Central.

After its reopening event in June, The Station will begin a phased reactivation of the building over the next several months and years as restaurant, retail, and other commercial and community-focused partners take up residency. The first floor will be open to the public for tours on Fridays and Saturdays through August. Expanded hours will be announced for fall, when the first phase of commercial activations opens to the public.

Tickets: Registration for OPEN Live and OPEN House will begin online at michigancentral.com on May 17 for neighbors surrounding The Station, and on May 21 for the general public.

First Lady, Second Gentleman talk reproductive rights and the economy in day two of Michigan visit

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff hoping to drum up support among women voters in the state wrapped up day two of their tour around Michigan in Midland Friday.

Their visit is part of a three day trip to the state, spending day one and part of day two in the U.P. touring Soo Locks, touting the $3 billion the Biden Administration invested to build a new Soo Lock.

The First Lady and Second Gentleman continued their efforts by talking with supporters in Midland about how the Biden Administration is protecting women’s reproductive rights while also lowering healthcare costs and bringing good paying jobs to the state.

“We’re going to win also because of the power of women. The power of women right here in Michigan,” Emhoff told the crowd of supporters.

Jill pointed to the work her husband has done working on a national law that would restore protections for women that were granted under Roe v. Wade.

Their visit comes after new reports show inflation slowed from March to April. However, consumer prices still rose slightly with inflation in the first three months of the year being unexpectedly high. Emhoff pointed to the work his wife and President Biden have done rebuilding roads and bridges while also lowering prescription drug costs.

“Massive projects all over the country, which means good paying jobs, millions of them all over the country. It’s juicing our economy, by any measure our economy is jamming,” Emhoff stated.

They urged people at Friday’s event to vote for President Joe Biden promising a vote for him will protect women and strengthen Michigan communities.

“Women for Biden Harris, we’re going to do what we did in 2020 and 2022. We’re going to meet this moment as if our rights are at risk, because they are,” Biden said.

The First Lady and Second Gentleman will wrap up their tour in Detroit tomorrow. President Joe Biden will also be visiting Detroit on Sunday while former President Donald Trump is also continuing his efforts towards a second term holding rallies in between court dates including one last week they drew thousands of supporters to New Jersey.
