5 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking, Big 5 & Big Cats Safari Tour

5 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking, Big 5 & Big Cats Safari

We went on this tour for our honeymoon and it was incredible. Our guide - Nicholas - was so friendly and knowledgeable - he taught us so much about both Rwanda and Uganda. The accommodation we stayed in was incredible - all very cute lodges with stunning views and great restaurants. This tour really was a once in a lifetime experience with all of the wildlife we saw (lions, leopards, elephants, gorillas, hippos, buffalos to name but a few) and of course the gorilla trek was incredible. We would recommend this tour to everyone.

6 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Hiking to Dian Fossey Tomb. Tour

6 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Hiking to Dian Fossey Tomb.

My family had an amazing trip to Uganda thanks to Devine African Safaris. Nicholas the owner went above and beyond to ensure we had fun by organizing an itinerary that was tailored to our needs and wants. Herbert, our guide, picked up the four of us from Kigali, Rwanda and drove us to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest for gorilla trekking. My teenage boys had a lot of questions that Herbert answered patiently. He was very informative on the culture of his people, We were booked at Mutanda Lake Resort, a beautiful place near Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest. The lodge is gorgeous and has incredible views of the forest, hills and the lake around it. In the morning, we went gorilla trekking in the forest. It was an amazing experience. We were amazed to see the gorillas up close. We had so much fun that they could not stop talking about the gorillas. Herbert facilitated the trek assisted by the forest rangers and he was an excellent guide. We had magical views that were unforgettable along the trek. The next day, we visited Queen Elizabeth National Park where we saw lots of animals including a rare sighting of a leopard crossing the road, elephants with their young, buffaloes, lions on trees, giraffes, and many more animals. The boat ride in Kazinga channe was another awesome experience, riding close to hippos and watching abundant wildlife on the banks of the channel. We did not want to leave and our only regret was that we should have booked a longer safari. Thank you super guide Herbert and Devine African Safaris who gave us an experience we will never forget.

3 Day Uganda Gorilla Trek Budget Safari via Kigali Tour

3 Day Uganda Gorilla Trek Budget Safari via Kigali

My guide, Herbert, was excellent. Always early, knowledgeable about the countries/locations we were visiting, and very kind. Him and the team pulled strings to get me a gorilla trekking permit last minute. I had a WONDERFUL time and wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommend - as a woman traveling alone I felt safe and comfortable the entire time.

4 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Chimp Trek at Kalinzu Forest Tour

4 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Chimp Trek at Kalinzu Forest

Bamboo Ecotours were really great to deal with. Edison was prompt in answering emails and queries. The trip worked out perfectly and met our expectations without exception. We were able to fit everything into a tight schedule. Our guides Joseph and Herbert were very well organised and made sure we had a good time and were always safe and well looked after. The gorilla trek itself was real highlight and was very well coordinated. It only took one hour to get to the spot where our designated family group appeared to be waiting for us to arrive. We were amazed to find the gorillas sitting around going about their daily business and not bothered by our presence. The thrill of being so close to these wonderful creatures and sensing how comfortable they were was truly beautiful. To know that they were not threatened by us, was the most rewarding experience. We were able to observe them for more than an hour and of course took plenty of great photos and videos of the silver backs, mothers, juveniles and a couple of adorable babies. We also hired (our own expense) a porter to assist with our bags and getting us up and down the muddy mountainside. This was agreed to be very worthwhile. During our four-day tour we also travelled through three other parks and saw a variety of wildlife up close. We got to see nearly all of the creatures mentioned in our itinerary. The accommodation booked by Bamboo Ecotours was of a very high standard and did not disappoint. The guides were very punctual and thorough in their organisation of our tour and we felt we received great value for money. I would highly recommend Bamboo Ecotours to anyone wanting to make a similar trek through Uganda and/or Rwanda.

9 Days Rwanda – Uganda Gorilla trekking Experience Tour

9 Days Rwanda – Uganda Gorilla trekking Experience

My favorite part of this trip was indeed meeting Gorillas in the forests of Bwindi. From Arrival to Entebbe airport to departures at Kigali International airport, my trips and experiences were organized with this Rwanda based tour operator. It was easygoing and very accomodative, very supportive and informative on the side of their office team and Emmanuel whom we have been chatting before the start of our trip. Our driver Jack was great too. Other parts visited include the Rhino Sanctuary, Kampala city tour as well as pottery experiences in Bwindi. For Rwanda, we went to Nyungwe and Lake Kivu as well as museums visit including Genocide memorial. All went well and can't recommend them enough for east africa expeditions

Booked my Trip with New Horizon Tours in January 2019. Went through a scenic views of the Kivu Belt Road, Chimps trek and Gorilla Trekking in Uganda. I was able to feel the local life and experienced the beauty of Rwanda in particular after the tragedies of Genocide in 1994. Can't recommend enough New Horizon Tours Trip.

What you should know about Volcanoes national park

2 days rwanda gorilla tour

Volcanoes National park is located in northwest Rwanda near the country’s borders with Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The park is part of the greater Virunga Mountains, a conservation area that straddles the borders of the 3 countries. The park protects about 350 mountain gorillas and this population has been increasing over the years due to the intensive conservation efforts undertaken by both government and other wildlife organisations such as the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Besides mountain gorillas, the park protects a variety of other wildlife species including primates like golden monkeys, 90 mammal species, over 300 species of birds, among others. Volcanoes national park is also home to 5 of the 8 volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains. These include Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Bisoke, Gahinga and Muhabura.

Book 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Safari

Ultimate guide for gorilla trekking from kigali to bwindi impenetrable national park.

Wondering why so many tourists prefer to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda? Well, when it comes to gorilla trekking in Africa, so many people prefer to trek gorillas in Uganda than any other destination.

This has very little to do with marketing and preference but rather facts that Uganda is the best gorilla tracking destination in the whole world. Uganda has two places where you can see mountain gorillas in the wild and these include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Gorilla permits in Uganda cost only $700 each all year round, with no low season discounts. This is $800 less than the huge $1500 price tag on Rwanda gorilla permits.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the face of gorilla tourism in Uganda. The park is home to over half the total remaining population of mountain gorillas in the world.

It also has four gorilla trekking sectors, giving clients a chance to decide which sector they prefer to trek gorillas in. These sectors include Rushaga Sector, Nkuringo Sector, Buhoma Sector and Ruhija Sector. Rushaga and Nkuringo Sectors of Bwindi are the most popular when it comes to Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali because of accessibility. They are the easiest to access.

Please note that each sector has its own advantages and disadvantages and you should always consult with us on which sector is the best at the moment.

Despite having only one gorilla family with seasonal migrants, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park does offer a nice gorilla trekking experience as well.

The gorilla trekking experience here is very different from the one in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park as you get to trek in a whole different terrain. Mgahinga shares the Virunga Conservation Area with Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and DRC Congo’s Virunga National Park.

The experience in Bwindi is mainly characterized by trekking through forests whereas the one in Mgahinga involves more of trekking through mountains and elevations.

Arriving through Kigali International Airport for your Bwindi Gorilla Safari

Arriving through Kigali International Airport for your Bwindi Gorilla Safari

There are so many advantages that come with booking Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking tours and we shall look at some of them. If you didn’t know, the distance from Kampala/Entebbe; the main entry points for international tourists is approximately 8 – 10 hours of road drive.

This journey is so long and so many tourists hate it. Imagine spending 9 hours on the road to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, 8 hours searching for gorillas in the forest the next day and another 9 hours on your transfer back to Kampala. This would break down any traveler however experienced of a road adventurer you are!

This time can however, be reduced by using charter and scheduled domestic flights or helicopters at an extra flight. Scheduled domestic flights are the most affordable of all and cost between of $280 – $380 per person irrespective of the season you are travelling in.

This is not the case when you arrive from Kigali in Rwanda. Your Kigali to Bwindi gorilla safaris become way easier, cheaper and much enjoyable.

The distance from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is only 4.5 hours. The distance to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is approximately 3 hours; so it depends on where you want to trek.

This time should have been less but Rwanda limits all vehicles to travel at an average speed of 60 km/h. Exceeding this attracts a traffic penalty hence, guides are forced to drive at this speed.

One other advantage with this is the affordability bit of it. Most times when you arrive from Kigali, you won’t need to book an overnight stay at any accommodation facility before or after your trek.

You can arrive and drive straight to Bwindi, and trek gorillas then drive back to Kigali and still make it on time. This will save you the money you would have spent on accommodation. There are so many other benefits but these are the most common of all.

The Four Trailheads, Gorilla Trekking Sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Four Trailheads, Gorilla Trekking Sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has four gorilla trekking sectors and these include Buhoma Sector (Northern Sector), Ruhija Sector (Eastern Sector), Rushaga Sector (Southern Sector) and Nkuringo Sector (Western Sector).

  • Buhoma Sector: Of all the sectors, Buhoma Sector is the oldest and most popular. It is where the first gorilla trekking activity in Uganda took place in the 1990s. This is where the famous Bwindi Massacre also happened; one of the most unfortunate occurring in the history of Ugandan Tourism. This sector in Particular carries a lot of history and is easy to access from Kampala or Entebbe; reason why so many tourists prefer to trek here. Some of the best luxury gorilla safari lodges in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are found in Buhoma Sector.
  • Ruhija Sector: In the east lies Ruhija Sector, one of the most accessible sectors. Trekking gorillas in Ruhija Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is not so strenuous like other sectors; especially the southern and western sectors. The sector is also right at the main road hence, if you do not want to drive through a lot of bumpy roads to the park, this sector should be your preference. Ruhija Sector is preferred by travelers why wish to combine their trek with destinations like Lake Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth National Park or any other destination.
  • Rushaga & Nkuringo Sectors: Rushaga Sector and Nkuringo Sector are the best and most convenient when arriving and departing from Kigali in Rwanda. They are the closest and most of the time when you book Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali, you will be booked to trek in one of these two sectors.

In case there is no gorilla permit availability in these two sectors, you could get booked to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or Ruhija and Buhoma Sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The trek in the southern and western sectors can mean to be strenuous at times but you can request for an easy trek in advance.

Top Gorilla Trekking Sector in Bwindi Forest for the Best Experience

Top Gorilla Trekking Sector in Bwindi Forest for the Best Experience

So now that we have explored the sectors, which is the best gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park? This is a very common question from travelers planning their first gorilla safari in Uganda.

They try to make the most of their trek by getting the best experience. Others actually look on to advice from previous travelers on how best they can maximize their gorilla trek.

The answer to this is there is no particular best trekking sector and your experience will not be like theirs. This is what makes gorilla trekking actually awesome.

Each experience is different and no one should lie to you that your experience will be like theirs.

So let’s look at what each sector has to offer. Buhoma Sector is the easiest to access when you start your gorilla trip from Entebbe or Kampala and gives you the privilege of trekking in the oldest of the gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Most of the best luxury lodges in Bwindi are also found in this particular sector. Ruhija Sector makes it easy for you to connect to other destinations and the road going there is well tarmacked.

Rushaga Sector has the most gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and because of this, it is one of the busiest sectors.

The mountain gorillas here are over trekked and because of this, they get to move to higher elevations at times to get a sense of loneliness. On a bad day, you could spend up to 8 hours trekking gorillas in Rushaga.

Nkuringo Sector has the best gorilla trekking scenery. In this sector, you will get clear views of Virunga National Park in DRC Congo. You will also be able to see some of the Virunga Mountains from here hence, if you want to blend your gorilla experience with a nice scenic tour, Nkuringo Sector might suit you best.

  • Birding in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Besides gorilla tourism, Bwindi is a great place for bird watching holidays, hiking and nature trips, cultural trips, biking tours and educational trips among safari types. When you visit, try to enhance your visit by engaging in other activities around the national park and diversify your experience. This will actually make you love the park more and appreciate its true beauty. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was first inhabited by the Batwa, a hunder-gatherer tribe that lived in forests for thousands and years and relied on it for shelter, herbs, food through hunting and other activities. However, since the introduction of gorilla tourism, they were displaced from the forests and resettled within the communities. These people still source their herbs from the forest but are not allowed to hunt in it any more.Engaging in this activity will let you learn how this this tribe managed to survive extinction for all these years despite living in a very dangerous environment. There are several more activities that you can engage in.

Distance from Kigali to Bwindi National Park

Distance from Kigali to Bwindi National Park

The distance from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. This time includes the minutes you spend at your particular border post clearing up to enter Uganda and returning to Kigali from Bwindi.

This is what makes most clients book Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking tours besides the cost aspect. With this time, you can actually arrive in the morning, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and reach before evening.

However, most clients use the excess hours to carry out a city tour around Kigali City and explore some of its attractions before actually getting on the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

This is highly recommended because Kigali City has some great attractions that you should see.

Visiting most of these attractions is free. Highly notable is the Kigali Genocide Memorial Monument, a place that commemorates the 1994 Rwanda Genocide; one of the darkest days in the history of Rwanda.

From here, you will learn a lot about the genocide from start to end. The actual activity takes about 2 hours. Other notable attractions are Caplaki Crafts Village, Kimironko Market and Hotel Milles Des Collines (appeared in Hollywood blockbuster movie – Hotel Rwanda) and a few more.

The actual 4 hours and 30 minutes to southern Bwindi Impenetrable National Park could have been less if it weren’t for Rwanda’s strict traffic rules and emphasizes all drivers to limit their speed to 60 kilometers per hour or less.

Border clearance can take up to 30 minutes depending on how busy it is though most of the times it takes less than that. So the distance from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is actually not long.

If even possible to trek gorillas in Bwindi and drive back to Kigali on the same day from drop offer or departure from Kigali International Airport.

With Kigali to Bwindi Gorilla Tours, you feel less tired

Tourists from trekking Bwindi Mountain Gorillas

No traveler wants to feel tired during their trip. Fatigue can mess up your trip and let you carry out activities at half potential or skip them in the worst scenario.

We have seen cases where gorilla trekking clients give up their trek in the forest and have to be carried all the way to the gorillas and back. As you plan your trip, endeavor to request your tour operator to craft for you a trip that is less tiring.

This way, you will get to enjoy it the more and probably carry out more safari activities.

Scheduling your arrival and departure from Kigali International Airport is a great way of managing fatigue on your trip. Travelling for long hours can mean to be so tiring at times and will keep you tired.

You should always try to avoid this. As you may notice, most of our travel packages tackle this. We always try to minimize driving time as much as we can by cutting long journeys in half, shorter routes and using scheduled flights where possible.

All these measures are put in place to help clients enjoy their safaris more and at full potential. When you book Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking safaris with us, you’ll always be in the right shape throughout your trip.

Regarding gorilla trekking difficulty, trekking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can mean to be so tiring at times. However, nowadays things have changed.

Park Rangers go gorilla tracking before clients and direct clients towards the right direction of gorillas unlike the previous years when clients had to search for the gorillas themselves.

This has made treks much simpler, shorter and straight forward. It has also made it possible for clients who are unable to carry out long hikes to request for shorter treks.

Crossing the Border from Rwanda to Uganda and back

Crossing the Border from Rwanda to Uganda and back

Uganda and Rwanda are both part of the East African Community hence, you will not find a hard time clearing up at the border. All you need for border crossing is a Visa, Passport and Yellow Vaccination Certificate (Rarely Asked).

If you do not get your visa in advance, you will have to apply for one at the border post you are using. The approval process usually takes a few minutes if you have all the other requirements.

Just in case you have all your details ready, you are likely to spend a maximum of 30 minutes clearing up with the authorities at the border before you are granted entourage to Uganda. When returning back to Kigali, you will spend less time at the border than before.

Why we recommend getting the East Africa Tourist Visa over ordinary visas

An East African Tourist Visa is a single visa document that allows you up to 90 days of stay in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Each East African Tourist Visa costs $100 and should be applied for your point of entry.

If you are arriving through Kigali in Rwanda, you should apply for an East Africa Tourist Visa through Rwanda. However, if you enter Burundi or Tanzania, your East African Tourist Visa automatically expires and you’ll have to pay for another one on return.

Discovering Kigali: A Quick Kigali City Tour Before your Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour to Bwindi

Discovering Kigali: A Quick Kigali City Tour Before your Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour to Bwindi

Before you begin your Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking tours, it’s good to have a short city tour around Kigali City. Most of the attractions you will visit in Kigali are free.

Some of them include the Kigali Genocide Memorial Monument, Caplaki Crafts Village, Inerta Arts Center, Kimironko Market and Hotel Rwanda among other places.

It’s always recommended to begin your Kigali City tour in the morning so that you finish up early and arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park before dusk. Arriving a day before or early morning favors a Kigali City tour.

Comparing the Cost of Gorilla Trekking in Uganda and Rwanda

The biggest cost of gorilla trekking is gorilla permits. However, in some cases accommodation fees might take up the most share of the gorilla trekking quotation especially when staying in high-end luxurious lodges like Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Trackers Safari Lodge and Buhoma Lodge among the rest.

The mode of transportation also determines your gorilla tour costs. A 4×4 safari van will cost way less than a 4×4 safari land cruiser. Also, when you book a longer trip, you’ll pay more than someone who goes on a short gorilla tour.

All in all, do not mind so much about the cost, it’s the experience that matters and you ought to make it as comfortable as you can at whatever cost.

Booking Uganda Gorilla Permits

Booking your gorilla permits through a trust gorilla travel agency like us is highly recommended. We shall take care of everything right from the booking process and printing the actual permits and deliver them on ground with your tour guide.

In case of any reschedules, we can help with that as well. However, booking your gorilla permits several months in advance is highly encouraged especially when traveling in the high and peak seasons.

Last minute bookings might not get you the availability you want especially in high-demand gorilla trekking sectors like Buhoma.

Minimum Age for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Gorilla Park

Minimum Age for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Gorilla Park

Not everyone is allowed to go gorilla trekking in Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo in Africa. Only children above 15 years of age are allowed to trek gorillas. This rule is very strict in Rwanda and DR Congo.

In Uganda, there is a chance of signing an indemnity form consenting to all consequences that may arise during a gorilla trekking experience should your child refuse to follow the set gorilla trekking rules, regulations and guidelines.

A child has to be over 12 years to increase your chances of approval.

Essential Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tips for Planning Your Flights

As mentioned earlier, arriving and departing through Kigali in Rwanda will shorten the driving distance to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Instead of spending eight to ten hours on road traveling, you will only spend four hours and thirty minutes, which is pretty much a good deal.

This will keep you in the best shape possible for your gorilla trek and not feel fatigued.

Gorilla trekking can mean to be a difficulty tour activity at times hence, you have to minimize on all possible sources of fatigue prior to your actual encounter with mountain gorillas.

What to avoid when planning your Bwindi gorilla trekking from Kigali Tours

When it comes to a safari In Uganda or Rwanda and DR Congo, you should fully entrust your tour operator with the planning process to avoid messing up.

So many times, we receive requests from clients trying to tailor their own trip.

This is not a bad idea but on cases where we advise you or recommend something better, you should highly take that into account.

As a gorilla travel agency on ground, we are always updated everything regarding gorilla trekking and can give you the best travel information.

How long should your Kigali to Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Tours be?

How long should your Kigali to Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Tours be

Short trips involve a lot of traveling and less hour of rest. I wouldn’t advise anyone to take on a short trip unless they feel it’s their only option.

For the best Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking safaris, we recommend three days and four days if your main point of interest is gorilla watching.

If you intend to add wildlife viewing to your package, you should consider a trip longer than 5 days. Booking a two days Kigali to Bwindi gorilla tour should be the last thing on your mind.

It’s not easy to trek gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and drive back to Kigali on the same day for departure or drop off much as it’s doable.

Budget Gorilla Trekking vs Luxury Gorilla Trekking?

Finances should not limit your level of enjoyment on a safari in Uganda, Rwanda or DR Congo. Many times, budget travelers try to minimize as much as they can and end up complaining about services.

Because of this, we operate at certain standards and can only stick to that.

In most cases, our budget quotations might seem pricier than those from competitors and this is not because we are expensive or perhaps trying to make a lot of profit from your trip, it’s simply because we are booking the best services and facilities for your budget.

Planning where to stay in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Waking up on a comfortable bed with a stunning view of the forest is something that puts you in the right mind. If things are not right from accommodation, you are least likely to enjoy your gorilla trekking trips.

Accommodation plays a very big role when it comes to safaris. After trek gorillas, its better you return to a very relaxing gorilla safari lodge and rest without worrying about poor service or amenities and facilities.

We often recommend the best gorilla safari lodges irrespective of your class of travel.

Top Recommended Gorilla Trekking Itineraries

How many times should you trek gorillas to get a total satisfaction of the activity? Well, you can trek gorillas over and over again and keep getting different experiences.

For an avid primate lover, trekking gorillas in all the sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is recommended. We do have these gorilla trekking circuit itineraries and can avail them to you on request.

If you are on a total budget, having two gorilla tracking iterations is just fine. If you can’t afford, you can trek once.

Please note that you need a gorilla permit for each encounter you have with mountain gorillas. You cannot use the same permit to trek with gorillas simultaneously.

Comparing Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking from Kigali: Which is Best?

Comparing Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking from Kigali: Which is Best

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is incomparable to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Bwindi is apparently the best place to see mountain gorillas in the whole world.

Over half the remaining population of gorillas live in the thick misty forest. It is a very common point of interest among Uganda travel destinations. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has only one gorilla family with rare seasonal immigrants from Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

The only difference is it has more diverse activities. In Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you can also trek golden monkeys, hike Mount Sabyinyo, hike Mount Gahinga, go bird watching, take on the Batwa Cultural Trail and visit the Garama Cave among many other interesting safari activities.

If you are planning to go gorilla trekking in Uganda, you should definitely consider having your trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Gorilla Habituation Experience

Bwindi forest is the only place in Africa where one can have a Gorilla Habituation Experience . There isn’t a specific definition of Gorilla Habituation Experience. However, it can literally be explained as a process of training wild Mountain Gorillas to get used to the presence of human beings.

The process involves a team of individuals like trackers, researchers, conservationists, and rangers who take 2-3 years to have a group of Mountain Gorillas fully habituated. During the process, the team visits these wild Gorillas each day and each individual Gorilla is given a name.  After the wild Gorilla Habituation process, the group is put through a mock exercise where a few people visit the Gorillas.

How many Mountain gorillas exist on earth?

Currently, there exist only 1063 mountain gorillas on earth and these can be sighted in Uganda, Rwanda or DRC. They are listed among the endangered species and their survival in the wild is still threatened. Scientifically, they are best referred to as Gorilla beringei beringei and they are generally well built with muscular bodies. Males weigh up to 390 pounds while females weigh 250 pounds. They live in groups or families comprising of 3 to 30 mountain gorillas. In every gorilla family, there is a dominant adult male also referred to as silverback gorilla. Female mountain gorillas have the same gestation period (8.5 months) just like humans. An adult male gorilla is stronger than man about 18 times. They are muscular but shy unless irritated, they can charge against you. One habituated gorilla family group is limited to only 8 visitors each day. The park guides are available to accompany visitors on a trek to see these rare apes. In Uganda, there are 21 habituated gorilla families and these exist in Bwindi (20) and only 1 is in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Rwanda has 10 gorilla families in Volcanoes National Park and Congo comprises of 8 groups of mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park. Yes, tracking mountain gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda and D.R. Congo is safe! All treks to see these apes are conducted within the already habituated gorilla families and because they undergo habituation, it means they are used to human presence. On actual gorilla trek, tourists are led by experienced and armed park guides.

What is the difference between gorilla trekking and gorilla tracking?

Gorilla trekking is activity involving visitors navigating through the jungles to view mountain gorillas. A valid gorilla permit is required if you are to participate in this primate adventure. Visitors can spend from 2-6 hours trekking to see gorillas depending on someone’s physical fitness level. During gorilla trekking, visitors follow an assigned group of gorillas with a dedicated park guide in the lead.

Gorilla tracking is a term that denotes monitoring method in which tourists search for a particular gorilla group already habituated. What makes it different from gorilla trekking is that it is normally completed by park rangers or advanced organization with aid of different methods to help locate where gorillas can be and when they are found, what follows is trekking.

What are the chances of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat?

There are higher chances of viewing massive mountain gorillas in their habitat. Tourists have about 99% chance of enjoying great sight of these large apes in the wild. The trekking process has been eased since trackers are sent in advance to find where a gorilla family is before tourists are finally set off to trek.

Why are mountain gorilla permits expensive?

Yes, gorilla permits ae costly but an hour with mountain gorillas is priceless! The charge for permits is expensive because a portion of the fees collected goes to aid conservation activities, paying park rangers, facilitating gorilla doctors’ work who ensure the perfect health of these amazing apes, as well as empowering the neighboring local communities. In Uganda, you can purchase a gorilla permit at US Dollars 700, Rwanda at US Dollars 1500 and in DRC at US Dollars 450.

Gorilla Trekking Rules and Regulations

At the start at each gorilla trekking day, travelers are introduced to the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. This is during the pre-gorilla trekking briefing which takes place at the headquarters of the respective gorilla national parks. The rules and regulations of gorilla trekking have been put by conservation bodies in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Also known as dos and don’ts, gorilla trekking rules have been put to ensure safety of the endangered gorillas and travelers themselves. Gorilla watching is the most done travel activity in Africa which attracts huge volumes of travelers to Bwindi Forest / Mgahinga Gorilla National parks, Volcanoes National park and Virunga National park in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo respectively.

Travelers are warmed to follow these rules to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable gorilla trek. Mountain gorillas are endangered species which share over 99% of human genes making them susceptible to human communicable illnesses. Some of the rules apply before meeting gorillas while others apply when with the gorillas. Conservation bodies who put gorilla trekking rules and regulations are Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in Uganda, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) in Rwanda and the Congolese Institute for Conservation of Nature (ICCN) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The rules and regulations of gorilla trekking in Africa include among others:

Before meeting the gorillas:

  • Do not trek the endangered mountain gorillas when sick. Any traveler showing any signs of cold, flu or infection will not be allowed to visit the endangered gorillas. Mountain gorillas are susceptible to human illnesses.
  • During the corona virus pandemic, mandatory temperature screening to confirm travelers are free from the killer virus.
  • Carry your gorilla permit and other travel documents for verification
  • Travelers aged below 15 years are not allowed to visit the gorillas (Trekking gorillas is a strenuous adventure which may be hard for the children)
  • Only eight travelers are allowed to visit one gorilla family
  • Wear you face mask
  • Mandatory hand washing and sanitizing before and after meeting the gorillas
  • In gorilla habituation experience, only four people are allowed to visit a gorilla family
  • Keep within your group (do not move alone in the jungle)
  • Human waste especially feaces should be buried at least 30cm (12 ft) deep
  • Do not litter in the park
  • Follow the guide of the park ranger. Pay attention to his/her instructions when in the jungle

When with the gorillas:

  • Keep a distance of seven meters away from the endangered mountain gorillas. Keep a social distance to avoid the transmission of human wildlife diseases
  • do not look direct into the eyes of the endangered gorillas. Direct eye contact with the gorillas is irritating to the endangered species
  • do not use flash light cameras. Remember to switch off your flash light before taking any pictures. Torching in the eyes of the gorillas is highly discouraged
  • Keep your voices low when with the gorillas. These endangered species enjoy a quite environment.
  • Do not smoke in presence of the endangered mountain gorillas
  • Do not eat when with the gorillas
  • Do not drink when with the endangered mountain gorillas
  • Spend strictly an hour with the gorillas. 1 hour with gorillas is counted from the time travelers et their eyes on the gorillas. You can however spend several hours in the jungle before meeting the endangered gorillas
  • Turn back your face when sneezing or coughing to avoid direct transmission of germs to the endangered gorillas
  • Do not touch the baby gorillas
  • If a silverback gorilla charges at you, keep calm, step back and play it cool. Running away or charging back at the silverback gorilla will make the beast wilder and may cause irreversible harm.

Other rules and regulations that govern Africa’s National parks

In addition to gorilla dos and don’ts, check other rules in other national parks and protected areas in African parks. This applies to travelers who want to combine gorilla trekking with other wildlife experiences especially game viewing. These include:

  • Do not drive off the designated tracks. Off track driving in savannahs parks of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo is punishable.
  • Camping is not allowed in the park except at designated sites.
  • Motor horns and other loud sounds are not allowed in national parks.
  • Dogs, cats and other pets are not allowed in the national parks.
  • Do not bring ammunitions and firearms in the park. It’s only rangers that are allowed to carry guns in the park. The guns are not for shooting but rather scaring wild animals in case of any attack.
  • Keep your entrance receipts safely. You will be asked for verification from time to time.
  • Do not drive beyond 40 kilometers per hour while in the park. Over speeding is highly discouraged and punishable.

Bwindi Gorilla Habituation Experience: What does gorilla habituation mean?

Gorilla habituation experience is a general term that means a process in which gorillas are made to get used to human presence. The process usually takes 2 years more or less depending on how fast they can get accustomed to human being before they are opened up for gorilla trekking. While on a gorilla trip, there is possibility to participate in mountain gorilla habituation experience and this is provided for only in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The activity attracts mostly scientists, conservationists, researchers and trackers.

This exceptional experimental training or taming of wild mountain gorillas is meant to make them familiar and comfortable with human beings around them. Gorilla habituation experience is a first step all gorillas go through before they are declared free and open for travelers to trek. The experience gives travelers a chance to take part in training gorillas unlike in trekking where a traveler just watches from a distance. Travelers hike along with a team of conservationists, gorilla doctors, researchers and armed park rangers to meet the wild gorillas.

The team imitates gorilla activities such as eating vegetation, walking on arms and climbing trees which make it more fun and enjoyable. Within the 2-3 years, the team responsible for gorilla habituation must visit the gorilla family undergoing habituation everyday with or without travelers.

Where to do gorilla habituation experience?

The experimental experience is only done in Rushaga sector, south of Bwindi impenetrable National park. Every traveler who therefore wants to take part in this magical experience must visit Rushaga sector in south eastern Uganda. Apparently, 2 gorilla families (Bushaho and Bikingi) are undergoing habituation and will be opened soon for trekking.

The already habituated gorilla families in Rushaga sector include Mishaya family, Kahungye group, Busingye family, Bweza family and Nshongi gorilla group. Rushaga sector is home to the highest number of habituated gorilla families hence the best place for gorilla trekking in Uganda.

Cost of Gorilla Habituation Experience?

Each traveler intending to take part in gorilla habituation experience is required to have a permit. A single gorilla habituation experience permit costs $1500 for foreign non-residents, $1000 for foreign residents and UGX 750,000 for Ugandans and East African residents. This cost is far higher than the normal gorilla trekking permit which costs $700 for foreign nonresidents, $600 for foreign residents and UGX 250,000 for East African residents. However, the $1500 for gorilla habituation experience is surely worth it.

How many people are allowed during Gorilla Habituation Experience?

Each day, only four people are allowed to visit one gorilla family undergoing habituation experience unlike in gorilla trekking where a single gorilla family is visited by 8 people a day. This guarantee availability of 8 gorilla habituation permits issued everyday on first come first serve basis.

Allowed time for gorilla habituation experience

Mountain gorilla habituation experience allows a traveler to spend up to four hours with the endangered gorillas unlike gorilla trekking where travelers only spend an hour with the gorillas. This gives them extended time to learn, train and observe the social characters of gorillas in their families. However, travelers can spend over 8 hours in the jungle. The four hours are counted from the time travelers set their eyes on the endangered gorillas.

When and how to book for a gorilla habituation permit in Uganda?

6 months before the habituation experience day is the ideal time for booking a gorilla habituation experience permit. This is due to the high demand and low supply of habituation permits in Uganda. Travelers intending to do this memorable experience are therefore advised to book in advance to avoid last minute disappointments. Regarding how to book a gorilla habituation experience, you can directly contact Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), a government body responsible for wildlife / mountain gorilla conservation, trekking and habituation in Uganda. Gorilla trekking

1 Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour

The 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour is best done when a visitor spends a night in Rwanda before the day of trekking. The exercise starts very early in the morning, kicking off with briefing at the park headquarters. You will leave your hotel in Kigali at 4:30 am, for a 2-hour picturesque drive to Volcanoes National Park in the northwest of Rwanda. On arrival, you will have your breakfast before proceeding to the park headquarters at Kinigi for the briefing by the park warden.

At 8:30am the tour guide will transfer you to the starting point of the gorilla trek. The gorilla groups are allocated to the guests for tracking at random except when there are some exceptional factors to consider like age. Usually trackers who are advanced in age are allocated a gorilla family considered to be not far away from the starting point. However, our experienced guides have over time mastered the movement of the gorillas as well as having a good relationship with the park wardens. They normally talk to them before time and express the clients' interests and ability to forge a way for a successful gorilla trekking encounter.

The trek may last from 1-6 hours depending on the movement of gorillas. Travellers are advised to disclose their trekking abilities to park wardens and guides so they can be allocated the suitable gorilla family. However, be rest assured that you are guaranteed to meet a gorilla family in the park on your 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour at all costs.

What to expect on your 1 Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour

1 Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour

10 gorilla families have been habituated in Volcanoes park and are visited by trekkers everyday. These are Hirwa, Agashya, Umubano, Susa A, Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Kwitonda, Amahoro and Titus gorilla family. Each gorilla family is visited by a group of eight people everyday. Visitors are permitted to spend one hour in the presence of gorillas according to gorilla trekking guidelines .

What else to do and see in Volcanoes national park

Besides gorilla trekking, visitors can enjoy a variety of other experiences in Volcanoes national park. These include bird watching, golden monkey trekking, nature walks, community tours, volcano hiking (Mt Karisimbi & Bisoke) as well as hiking to Dian Fossey tomb. Trekkers can also make a brief tour to Musanze caves.

On return, your driver will transfer you back to Kigali for drop off at your hotel or at the airport for a scheduled flight back home. Inquire

Book 3 Days Uganda Gorilla Safari from Kigali

Guide for booking gorilla trekking in uganda from kigali in rwanda 2024/2025.

Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali or Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking is being prefered by so many clients because of affordability and the short distance.

So many clients preferred Rwanda gorilla tour experience to Uganda gorilla tour experiences before.

This was mainly because of the short 2 hour drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park compared to the eight hour long drive from Entebbe to Bwindi.

With the possibility of booking one day and two day gorilla safaris, it somehow became a bit cheaper for a client to trek gorillas in Rwanda.

The blow came in 2017 when Rwanda Development Board announced a 100% ($750 to $1500) increment on permits.

Ever since this happened, so many clients now prefer to arrive in Kigali and trek gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Uganda because not all are willing to pay the huge amount for Rwanda permits.

Bwindi permits cost only $700 each all year round. Besides, it is just a four hours drive from Kigali to Southern Bwindi.

On this website, our main aim is selling gorilla trekking tours that start from Kigali in Rwanda.

Besides organizing Uganda gorilla safaris, Rwanda gorilla safaris, Congo gorilla safaris and East African Safari Tours, we also organize wildlife safaris, honeymoons, group tours, primate safaris, beach getaways and so much more all within the East African region.

Why book Kigali to Bwindi gorilla trekking?

Its much easier to transfer from Kigali to Southern Uganda then from Entebbe. Below is list down some of the major benefits of starting your gorilla tours from Rwanda.

Save Money: Uganda gorilla tours from Kigali is way much cheaper than starting from Entebbe or Kampala.

You can arrive and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the same day just like you can trek gorillas in Bwindi and transfer to Kigali for departure on the same day.

If you choose to start from Kampala, you will have to spend money on accommodation for the first and last night of your safari.

The Uganda gorilla trek cost is also friendly. Instead of blowing $1500 on Rwandan permits, you will spend $700 on each Ugandan permit.

Short Drive: It is about a four to five hours drive from Kigali in Rwanda to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

If it wasn’t for the fact that Rwanda limits driving speed form 40-60 kilometers per hour, it would have been a three hours drive.

The journey is approximately 176.8 kilometers, almost thrice shorter the distance from Entebbe to Bwindi.

Please also note that the border does not close. You can even arrive at 6PM and transfer to Bwindi on the same day.

Shorter Trips: The short distance makes it easy to carry out shorter trips.

You can even visit Bwindi in two days; you arrive in Kigali and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on day one then trek gorillas and transfer back to Kigali for departure on the second day.

However, we recommend staying for at least two nights in Bwindi. Three to four day Bwindi tours are awesome.

Save on Flights with Rwandair: Rwanda has their own airlines called Rwandair. Visit their website and check out their routes and prices.

You could chance cheap fares and save some money. Some routes are direct with no stopovers hence, less traveling time.

Visit the Kigali Genocide Monument: The Kigali genocide monument is a must visit for all clients who arrive in Kigali.

This landmark paints the dark history of Rwanda on your face. You will get to learn a lot about the 1994 Rwandan Genocide:- how it started, what caused it and how it stopped. The Kigali Genocide Audio Experience costs $25 per person and makes your experiential tour even more better.

The visit takes about two hours hence, you have to make sure you are at the entrance by 12:00 am as the closing time is 4pm (EAT).

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers extraordinary gorilla trekking tours in its isolated sectors – Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Buhoma sectors. All these sectors are inhabited by habituated gorillas that are comfortable with human beings in their habitat. The different gorilla sectors have various gorilla families.

The Four Trailheads of Bwindi (Gorilla trekking sectors)

The four trail heads (gorilla trekking sectors) of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park include; Rushaga sector (South of Bwindi), Nkuringo sector (West of Bwindi), Ruhija sector (East of Bwindi) and Buhoma sector (North of Bwindi).

  • Rushaga gorilla sector. This sector is made-up of 8 gorilla families. It is located in the South of Bwindi forest and gorilla families here are; Nshongi comprised of 21 individuals led by one dominant silverback, Kahungye with 25 gorillas, Mishaya group that is led by a dominant silverback Mwine who is responsible for their feeding and protection in the jungle, Busingye group on the other hand is composed of 9 members and Bweza has 15 individuals. Each of the gorilla families is normally composed of a silverback, black backs, mothers, infants and juveniles.
  • Nkuringo Gorilla sector. Nkuringo is also located in the southern part of Bwindi impenetrable national park and is made-up of four different families scattered in its thick rainforests. Gorilla families here include Nkuringo family, after which the sector is named. Nkuringo was the first family in the sector and later other families like Christmas, Posho and Bushasho emerged. This Nkuringo gorilla sector is a renowned place for calm experiences and assured gorilla encounters.
  • Ruhija gorilla sector . Ruhija is located in the eastern part and is made-up of four different exciting gorilla families that visitors enjoy to encounter in the tropical rainforests of Bwindi. Ruhija has four families. The gorilla families in the sector are Bitukura with 13 individuals, Oruzogo gorilla family is made-up of 10 individuals, Mukiza family made up of 15 individuals and Kyaguliro family made up of 10 members. Encountering gorilla families in Ruhija sector is such an exciting experience and provides memorable moments to visitors with the pictures they take and also learn a lot from them as they groom their young ones in the jungle.
  • Buhoma Sector. This is the most popular sector, situated in the northern part of Bwindi impenetrable forest and thus the most accessible for visitors from the northern direction. The sector is made-up of five gorilla groups that can be tracked by visitors in the forest. Gorilla families in Buhoma sector include; Mubare group comprised of 9 members, Habinyanja gorilla group, Rushegura family led by the famous silverback Mwirima, Muyambi family and Katwe family with 9 individuals. All these families are fully habituated and therefore can be accessed by visitors in the jungle with the help of game rangers and guides.

It is important to note that all these families are habituated though there are other non habituated gorillas in the jungle of Bwindi extending southwards to the Virunga massif. Therefore, it is important for visitors to be accompanied by Rangers as they trek gorillas to avoid running into non habituated gorillas that are not familiar with human beings and could possibly see them as a threat.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has over 18 gorilla families and groups . Mountain gorillas are descendants of ancestral monkeys and apes found in Africa and Arabian continents from the start of Oligocene (24-34 million years ago). They are one of the rare and critically endangered primate species found in the world. It was 9 million years ago that this group of primates later evolved into gorillas, originating from common ancestors with humans and chimps. This is when the genus ‘gorillas’ came up.

Gorilla families in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Gorilla families in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

  • Mubare family. This is the first group to be habituated in the year 1993. Mubare gorilla family comprises 5 members under the leadership of 1 silverback. The name came from a gorgeous Mubare hill where they were first sighted. There were 18 members at first and the number kept reducing due to deaths and massive migration. It has turned out to be the smallest gorilla family in Bwindi NP, especially after the demise of its pioneer silverback – Ruhondeza. Some of Mubare family members currently include Kanyonyi – the lead black back, Muyambi, Malaika and Kashundwe.
  • Habinyanja gorilla family. Habinyanja gorilla family comprises of 20 members with 2 silver backs. The name Habinyanja comes from the local name for water – “Nyanja” relating to the fact that the group was first discovered near a swamp. This group is hard to trek because it moves over a wide range in the forest. Prominent members in this group are, Maraya the blackback, late Mizayo (Was brutally killed by poacher’s traps and spears), Binyonko, Nyabuche, Nyamuhango, Rukundo, Kisho, and Rugyendo the adult females, Kavuyo the sub adult male and Ruyombo the sub adult female, Malaika, Hamusini, Makara, Rwansigazi among others.
  • Rushegura group family. In the year 2000, Rushegura gorilla family broke away from Habinyanja with 20 members and 1 silver back called Kabukojo. It is easier to trek this group because it roams around the park headquarters, sometimes coming to the lodges. Among others the members in this family include, mwirima, kabukonjo, kibade, nyamunwa, nyampazi, ruterena, kafuruka, kibade and karungyi, among others.
  • Katwe family. Katwe gorilla family is the newest edition to the gorilla family profile of Buhoma sector. Katwe was established in the summer of 2018 after successful habituation by Uganda wildlife authority. Katwe family comprises of 7 members including one silverback (Silverback Katwe), four adult females, three black backs and two infants. The exact number of members of Katwe family is still uncertain as new members keep joining and leaving the group occasionally.

  • Nshongi gorilla group. Nshongi gorilla family derives its name from a river close to it where this group was first sighted during habituation; it is the biggest gorilla family ever to be habituated. It currently has 25 members under the leadership of 2 silver backs as the group continues to expand. The members in this group are, Nshongi, Kakono, Bweza, Matama, Busasa, Bwire, Bukojo, Mahoro among others.
  • Mishaya gorilla group. Mishaya gorilla family comprises 12 members and 1 silver back which broke off from Nshongi in 2010 due to the dispute that broke out between competing silverbacks. Among other members include, Bakunzi, Mwiza, Rutaro, Mize, among others. Please note that Mishaya – the former leader after which the group was named died and when he died, Mwine his son took over.
  • Kahungye gorilla group. Kahungye gorilla family has over 13 members with dominant silver back known as Rumansi. The group was officially launched in October 2011 following two years of successful habituation process. At the time of habituation, this family was under the leadership of a subordinate silverback, known as Ruhemuka. Ruhemuka led Kahungye family until March 2013 when it succumbed to what was termed as a forest accident.
  • Busingye gorilla family. Busingye gorilla group is another group in Rushaga sector. The family split from Kahungye gorilla group, under silverback Busingye (peace). The family has 9 members including 3 infants, 5 black backs and 1 sliver backs. Uganda Wildlife Authority is yet to announce all the names of the members in this family.
  • Bweza gorilla group. With roughly 12 members, Bweza gorilla group split up from the original Nshongi because of some simple rivalry. Despite UWA’s speculation last year that the group would reunite with Mishaya, it has remained independent and still open for tracking in the Rushaga area of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

  • Visitors are advised to put on long sleeved shirts to keep the biting insects away and trousers to ensure that the sticky plants don’t get to the skin.
  • Mosquito repellents are also paramount in the jungle since they help prevent one from the unwanted tiny bloodsuckers, therefore preventing diseases such as malaria and yellow fever.
  • Strong all-terrain boots are important since they help a visitor to get through the shrubs and irregular slippery and steep slopes with no difficulty.

What is the best time to go for gorilla tracking in Uganda?

What is the best time to go for gorilla tracking in Uganda

The best time to go for gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry months. Dry seasons are always in mid-year and at the end of the year – long dry seasons of June up to late September and the short dry seasons running from December up to mid February. These seasons are characterized by steady grounds that make it easy for the visitors to maneuver through these forests.

It Is however important for visitors to know that gorilla trekking is not only possible in dry seasons but it can also be done during rainy season though it can be a little bit hectic. This is because of the slippery grounds and the disturbing rain in the forest that makes it less enjoyable than in the dry seasons.

Rules and regulations governing gorilla trekking in Uganda

Gorilla tracking tour is a highly regulated but an exciting adventure which is governed by a set of rules to ensure that the habitat is conserved for the next generations while the present-day visitors enjoy their time in the jungle.

  • Do not litter. Visitors are required not to litter the forest in order to keep it in its natural state and also leave it clean. A clean environment also improves the lives of gorillas and so they do not have to get diseases from the dirty plastics and polythene bags left by visitors while trekking.
  • Gorilla trekking minimum age. Visitors embarking on gorilla trekking safaris are required to be of 15 years and above . This guideline helps to regulate the playful nature of the young ones and the risk of not managing the long hikes. It is also however important to note that children of below 15 years’ age normally have communicable diseases such as flu, colds, cough which could possibly be transmitted to gorillas.
  • No illnesses. Visitors going for gorilla tracking are required not to be sick especially of contagious diseases such as flu cough, cold and COVID-19 which could possibly lead to their death and extinction of the entire species.
  • Gorilla trekking permit regulation. Visitors going for gorilla trekking tours are required to show a gorilla tracking permit that they received from the regulating body – Uganda Wildlife Authority. This helps ensure that all visitors have met the requirements that support the conservation of gorillas in this national park.

How difficult is gorilla trekking in Uganda?

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is precisely a mild adventure. It is moderate since it is not so difficult and not that easy. This is because the adventure requires patience from trekkers and also the guts to be able to maneuver through the thick rain-forests in all weather conditions, the slippery terrain, thorny bushes and shrubs, hiking the highlands, sloping the valleys, and crossing streams to get to the assigned gorilla family.

All those petty hardships are quickly forgotten the moment you encounter a habituated group of gorillas therefore making the activity worthwhile and rewarding.
