Why grill out when you've got access to the best in the state? Using the tens of thousands of ratings and reviews added daily by your fellow travelers, TripAdvisor has named the top-rated burger restaurants in every state, based on their site reviews.

The list accounts for ratio and quality of the burger reviews compared to overall ratings, as well as quality and quantity of reviews received in the past year (ending May 2018). Featured restaurants have a minimum of 100 reviews and a rating of 4 out of 5 bubbles. To keep large national chains out of the rankings, each winning restaurant has 10 locations or fewer as of June 2018.

From Birmingham, Alabama's Jack Browns Burger & Beer Joint ("Get the Elvis, it is a game changer" says a recent review), to MacPhail's Burgers in Jackson, Wyoming ("For those who have never tried a bison burger, this is your prime opportunity"), you'll find a nation full of great grilled meat with unique regional toppings.

Burger king® company completes acquisition of carrols restaurant group.

TORONTO , May 16, 2024 /CNW/ - Restaurant Brands International Inc. ("RBI") (TSX: QSR) (NYSE: QSR) (TSX: QSP) announced today that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of all issued and outstanding shares of Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc. ("Carrols") (formerly NASDAQ: TAST) that are not already held by RBI or its affiliates for $9.55 per share in an all cash transaction, or an aggregate total enterprise value of approximately $1.0 billion .

With the close of the acquisition, RBI adds the largest Burger King® ("BK") franchisee in the United States to its portfolio as part of the Company's Reclaim the Flame plan. As previously announced, the Company will invest a further $500M to accelerate the reimaging of more than 600 Carrols restaurants before refranchising the majority of the acquired portfolio to new or existing smaller franchise operators over the next seven years.

In addition, on May 16, 2024 , subsidiaries of RBI entered into an amendment to their existing Credit Agreement (the "2024 Amendment") increasing the existing term loan B facility with $5.2 billion outstanding to a $5.9 billion term loan B facility (the "Term Loan B Facility") under the same terms as the existing Term Loan B Facility. The proceeds from the increase in the Term Loan B Facility were used along with cash on hand to complete the acquisition of Carrols, including the payoff of its credit agreement and the redemption and discharge of its outstanding 5.875% senior notes due 2029.

This is one of my favorite places to visit. The owners are always around and very friendly. The waitress are always attentive and knowledgeable. Tee is a great waitress! There is a smoking and non smoking side and outside patio with fire pits for cooler nights. They feature live music several times a month and karaoke. The house Sangria is to die for! One of my favorite drinks. The food is always fresh and delicious. Try the fried catfish and jasmine rice. The brunch on Sundays is TOP TIER! Their French toast melts in your mouth! Plenty of parking also!

This was probably top 2 or 3 burgers I've ever had. To be fair, #1 was in Ft Madison Iowa. Our service at Victory Burger was friendly and top attention. Just ask for Jello, and she will gladly take care of you.

Not a Cigar Lounge! Just another Club. Humidor is definitely less than appealing..not even full, empty cigar boxes, and over priced.

Amazing find! Food & service was beyond expectations. Burger is life changing....and well worth the 2.5 hour drive. Enjoyed our chat with one of the owners on the way out made our visit so personable. Highly recommend. Hope to see you on our next trip in!!

This restaurant was voted 'Best Burger in America'. Now it's coming to Leland.

A Chapel Hill-based burger restaurant, which was voted Best Burger in America by Trip Advisor, is opening a location in Leland. Al's Burger Shack is planned for 3556 Leland Town Center Drive, in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement.

"We're excited to bring Al's Burger Shack to Southeastern North Carolina," said Jason Kesler, an owner of Al’s. 

Kesler, a Wilmington native, and his business partner Charlie Farris also own a number of Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in the area, including the one in the Waterford area of Leland. 

"The support we see there is incredible. The area is booming, and the people are great in Leland,” Kesler said.

Right now, Al’s has two locations, both in Chapel Hill. The restaurant was established in 2013 and earned the Best Burger designation in 2018 for its signature Bobo Chili Cheeseburger, which is topped with chili sauce, coleslaw, onion, yellow mustard, and American cheese.

Look for hand-pattied burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, milkshakes, beer and wine, and sides -- like the popular sea salt and rosemary fries. Kesler said Al's makes the best burger he's ever eaten.

“What really sets us apart from other burger joints is our home-made toppings, our perfectly seasoned burgers, cooked to your preferred temperature," he said. "The vibe is great and will fit in perfectly down here at the coast."

They hope to open later this year, in early fall.

Known for smash burgers and fictitious name, drive-thru restaurant opens in Jacksonville Beach

A highly anticipated restaurant known for its fresh, hot-off-the-grill smash burgers and homestyle fries as well as its fictitious namesake, is now welcoming hungry guests to its drive-thru and walk-up windows in Jacksonville Beach.

Dick Mondell's Burgers & Fries opens Monday at 1177 Third St. S. — the third location of the Gainesville-based restaurant chain founded and owned by two friends with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor who met in culinary school.

The new site has a few outdoor picnic tables but no indoor seating. About three blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, it replaces a defunct,  weather-beaten former self-service car wash.

Co-founders and co-owners Connor Castelli and Chris Leckerling launched the restaurant concept named for a figment of their culinary school imaginations in 2018 in Gainesville.

The Jacksonville Beach restaurant — on the same block as Beach Hut Cafe — has been about a year in the making. It joins the original Dick Mondell's at 412 SW. Fourth Ave. in Gainesville and the second location at 1808 S. Monroe St. in Tallahassee.

Topping Dick Mondell's menu

Castelli and Leckerling collaborated on the menu — developing the recipes for beef and chicken burgers, salads and sides in their home kitchens. About half of their offerings are vegan-or vegetarian. 

The menu focuses on locally sourced, sustainable and fresh ingredients. It also mirrors the slightly naughty but good-natured sense of humor of its fictitious namesake, Dick Mondell.

Signature menu offerings include:

• The Original Big Dick ($10.04): Two beef patties with lettuce, pickle, onion and Dick's Sauce.
• Herbed Chicken Burger ($8.78): A 100% all-natural Joyce Farms chicken patty with lettuce, pickle, onion and mayo.
• Impossible Burger ($11.92): A vegan patty with lettuce, pickle, onion and vegan Dick's Sauce.
• Garden & Grain Salad ($8.15): Green leaf lettuce, tomato, onion, assorted grains, chickpeas, cucumber and carrots. Dressing choices are  Lemon Herb Vinaigrette, Dick's Sauce or Vegan Dick's Sauce.

Side items include Natural Cut Fries, $1.88 for a small size or $$3.14 for large; Sweet Potato Tots at $3.14 for a small size or $4.39 for large; and "Dirty" Kettle Chips for $3.14, according to the menu.

Dick Mondell's also offers milkshakes for $6.27 in chocolate, vanilla, coffee and Orange Creamsicle that are made with all-natural Palazzolo's Artisan Dairy ice cream.

Desserts include an ice cream cookie sandwich for $2.18 and a Waffle Cookie made from two in-house vegan pizzelles, the menu shows.

So who is Dick Mondell?

Castelli and Leckerling developed the concept of Dick Mondell's Burger & Fries during a capstone project as students at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, Calif.

"The giveaway is there is no Dick Mondell," Leckerling previously told the Times-Union a June 2022 interview. "… When we were creating the idea of this brand, we wanted to create a restaurant that we wanted to eat at and that we wanted to be customers of. And that we could be excited about and wasn't just Chris and Connor's Burger Shack."

So they created possible backstories for the fictitious Mondell.

"We played around with a couple of stories about who Dick Mondell might have been," Leckerling said. "But you know, he was just some guy who opened up a burger restaurant 50 years ago and nothing has changed and he does everything like he did when he first opened."

The end result: The imaginary Dick Mondell sounded like an old football player.

Cheeky humor

With burgers named "The Original Big Dick" and "Dick Junior," the restaurant — which also has "Dick's Sauce" — serves up cheeky humor. The double entendre names are intended as a good-natured joke to make people smile. They're also "kind of poking fun at the fast-food establishment," Leckerling previously told the Times-Union.

"We as a brand try not to push it too far," he said. "Obviously, there's a little bit of sophomoric humor to it, but we try to do it with a wink and a nod and kind of let the guests push it as far as they want without us trying to be vulgar about it."

After a decade, Jacksonville gourmet burger joint shuts its doors at St. Johns Town Center

Totaling about 1,500 square feet, the Jacksonville Beach restaurant opens at 11 a.m. Monday. Its hours of operation going forward hadn't been announced as of Sunday.

As basketball fans filled out brackets and anxiously waited to see which of the 68 teams were eliminated first during the highly-anticipated yearly NCAA Division 1 college basketball tournament that is March Madness, The Republic held its own bracket-style competition between 16 of our favorite hamburger restaurants in metro Phoenix.

For the last several weeks, thousands of readers have voted in the March Madness-inspired Burger Bracket to decide who makes the best hamburger in metro Phoenix.

Round one ended on Sunday, March 10 . Round two, between the  Elite 8  ended on Sunday, March 17. The  Burger Bracket Final Four , ended Sunday, March 24. And in the championship round , two old-school joints went head-to-head in a run off that closed at midnight on Sunday, March 31.

It was an intense battle, with over 3,000 votes placed in the final round. But the people have spoken, and The Chuckbox restaurant in Tempe is officially your 2024 Burger Bracket champion.

Fans love The Chuckbox for nostalgia and great burgers

The Chuckbox is the place to go for old-school burgers and nostalgia near ASU in Tempe. Options include a half-pound ground beef burger, a bacon cheeseburger and a guacamole and bacon burger. The menu features a few appetizers, a veggie burger and a few chicken options, but the main draw are the mesquite grilled patties that come with an all-access-pass to the condiment bar. In addition to soft drinks, there's draft beer available by the glass or pitcher.

General manager Chris Guthrie said the Burger Bracket win is an honor, especially since it was voted on by the general public. "We've been doing this over 50 years, and I think we do a pretty good job of it," Guthrie said.

The restaurant opened in 1972 and has undergone very few changes since then. Guthrie said it is extremely important to him and the rest of The Chuckbox staff to provide consistent quality so that people who visited the restaurant five decades ago can return today and have the same experience they remember.

"It's something we take a lot of pride in, that we work really hard to keep our products the same. Even with the changing times and the economy and everything, we are very proud to say that we don't sacrifice quality to save money. And while most companies fight to go along with the trends, we try just as hard to stay the same," Guthrie said.

Downtown Disney goes upscale with 3 new ‘elevated’ restaurants

D owntown Disney is stepping up its culinary game from burgers, pizza, coffee and pretzels with a new level of fine dining offering steaks, hand-made dumplings and gourmet Mexican food from a Michelin-starred chef.

The outdoor shopping mall next to Disneyland has already brought in a trio of Mexican restaurant concepts from celebrity chef Carlos Gaytan with plans for a Din Tai Fung dumpling house later this year and a new steakhouse in the near future.

In early May, Gaytan opened his new Paseo restaurant, Centrico courtyard bar and Tiendita grab-and-go stand that focus on his signature style combining Mexican flavors with a French haute cuisine culinary style.

Gaytan’s Mexique restaurant in Chicago was awarded a Michelin Star in 2013, making him the first Mexican-born chef to earn the coveted honor. That same year, Gaytan joined Bravo’s “Top Chef” reality competition show as a contestant. This week, Gaytan’s restaurant HA’ in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo received a Michelin star , among the first awarded to eateries in that country.

The new Paseo, Centrico and Tiendita eateries run by the Patina Restaurant Group take over spaces formerly occupied by Catal restaurant, Uva bar and Sprinkles cupcake bakery.

“Part of the overall vision of Downtown Disney is to be able to elevate the existing spaces and concepts,” Patina Restaurant Group President John “JK” Kolaski said. “We worked with our partners in Disney to understand what their vision is for the future of Downtown Disney, the parks here and the near future of what they’re working on. It’s about elevating the food and beverage offerings.”

Din Tai Fung will start serving its internationally acclaimed Shanghai-style Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings this summer in Downtown Disney.

The family-owned restaurant chain has locations in Southern California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Korea.

The Taiwan-based restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Star five times at its Hong Kong location.

The Orange County Register named Din Tai Fung in Costa Mesa to its annual list of the 75 Best Places to Eat in Orange County and called the chain’s famous soup dumplings that have spawned countless imitators “still the ones to beat.”

Disneyland will once again be home to a steakhouse after shuttering Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

New steakhouse and barbecue concepts are planned for the former Tortilla Jo’s location in Downtown Disney.

No name, operator or opening date have been announced for the new Downtown Disney steakhouse.
