Kaiser Chiefs announce second last-minute gig after 'incredible response'

Tickets are selling fast for the surprise performances

The Kaiser Chiefs have announced a second show in Liverpool after huge demand for the band’s surprise gig in the city.

Earlier this morning, record shop and live music space Jacaranda Baltic told the ECHO that the popular indie band would be taking to its stage tomorrow night (March 8). A spokesperson for the venue said it was “exciting and very unusual for a band this big to be performing at such short notice”.

The Kaiser Chiefs have been making music for nearly two decades. They released their new album, entitled Kaiser Chiefs’ Easy Eighth Album, last week.

One of the band’s singles on the new album, Feeling Alright, was co-written with legendary producer Nile Rodgers. Lead singer Ricky Wilson said: “On the first day with Nile Rogers, he said ‘what have you got?’ We searched through some jams we had and this was a song that stood out to him.

“The band loved playing it round and round, and it must be fun to play but we never really knew where it would find a home. Nile turned out to be the best estate agent and found it a home almost immediately. He also brought in Amir, who turned out to be our housemate for the entire record. A good place to start!”

Tickets for the gig went on sale this morning and sold out in just a few hours. Because of this, Jacaranda Baltic have announced that the Kaiser Chiefs will be performing again straight after the early evening gig for fans who were unsuccessful the first time round.

A spokesperson for the venue said: “Due to incredible response to our Kaiser Chiefs show and demand for tickets, we’re delighted to add a second show later on the same night. We expect tickets to sell out today so be quick!”

The second gig will take place at 9.30pm tomorrow, after the first show has finished. More information about the gig can be found here.

Kaiser Chiefs are an indie rock band from Leeds, England. They formed in 2002 and have enjoyed enormous global success since.

The band consists of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, who has achieved added fame from his stint as a judge on the UK talent show The Voice, guitarist Andrew "Whitey" White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick "Peanut" Baines and drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson in late 2012.

The band’s big break came along when they performed at the NME Awards tour in 2005, as the opening act. This opportunity allowed the band to start making a name for themselves in the UK. Their first album debuted the same year, entitled ‘Employment’, and reached the number two spot on the UK album chart and was subsequently certified five times platinum. The album was even shortlisted for a Mercury prize, but narrowly missed out on the prestigious award.

Since this encouraging start, the band has fast become one of the most successful UK indie rock bands today. Their most notable hits include ‘I Predict a Riot’, ‘Every day I love you Less and Less’ (both from their debut album) and smash hit ‘Ruby’ from their second album, amongst many others. Their second album, ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ topped the success of their first, reaching the number one spot on the UK albums chart and the album’s lead single ‘Ruby’ became their first ever UK number one single.

In terms of music style, the band can best be described as indie rock with elements of new-wave and post-punk revival. Other similar artists include Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand. Although the band have not quite reached the pinnacle of success surmounted by Coldplay, they have nonetheless well and truly cemented themselves in UK band history. With over one million singles sold worldwide, Kaiser Chiefs are arguably the biggest band to have emerged from Leeds, having won many prestigious awards including Brits and NME awards.

Live reviews

I know what you are thinking. You are sitting on your couch. And wondering if you should go to the Kaiser Chiefs's concert. The main reason of your hesitation ? You are afraid to see another show just like any other. Let me tell you : KAISER CHIEFS is nothing like any other band. Despite their fame and their many hits, they stayed the same. They grew obviously on stage. They got better. They got way better that you could ever imagine. They fly along the tide of the ocean. They are my favorite band of the last decade. Why? Because they are still close to their public. They respect us. We are not just numbers giving money away. We want to see them and they want to see us rock the venue. And so as a gift they keep rocking the stage until the lights go out. My piece of advice ? Go see kaiser chiefs anytime they are in town. Their lyrics are profound and full of meanings. Their show is full and they act on the stage. You will never be able to say they don't give 200% of themselves. If I had to describe them I would say that they are the modern gladiators of Music. Go see them !

Totally amazing night last night at the BIC. Started off in brilliant style by the fab up and coming band howl sounds who used to be known as ngod. After a short break Spring Kings came on with their distinctive rocking sound.

Then came the big moment. At the front of the stage was a giant black curtain. The start of stay together played out and the curtain fell down to reveal the band in a shower of confetti and glitter.

The stage then got pushed back and the kaisers were in full flow. They blended new and old songs in a fab set. As usual Ricky wilson was energetic and at one point appeared at the back for the song Meanwhile up in heaven - as a giant glitterball spun around looking like he was surrounded by a million stars.

Back on stage the band rounded things up by taking us back to the 70s with Never falling in love. The band have never sounded better - vj amazing on drums, whitey on guitar was spellbinding as was simon on bass then everyones favourite keyboardest peanut i think everyone was sad when they finished with OMG. All in all a fabulous night.

I've actually seen Kaiser Chiefs a few times in concert and each time I appreciate this group more and more. Kaiser Chiefs have always been one of my favorite bands so whenever I hear that they are playing at a venue I try to go see them.

Whenever they sing "Never Miss A Beat" the crowd goes wild, that song just about being lazy and not doing a darn thing – and you know what, we love it!

Kaiser Chiefs are everything that is good about indie rock, good beats, smooth rhythm, and of course, rocking out. When they play "Pinball Wizard", Peanut goes crazy on the keyboard, I give him mad props for his skills. The crowd goes wild anytime they play that song, and when you see them in concert you will know why. There were people in the audience clapping, rocking their heads back and forth, and stripping off their shirts.

Now I have to give it up to Ricky for those vocals, and when the band performs I Predict a Riot, you better watch out because it gets crazy (but crazy in a good way). I hope to catch another one of their shows real soon.

Thanks to Banquet Records I was blessed to get a ticket to an early, all ages short set at The Hippodrome in Kingston-upon-Thames as part of the Kaiser Chief's album launch. Cool, relaxed venue with decent sound and I had a great view from one of the balconies. Despite it being a short set we got the full light show and the band didn't seem to hold anything back

With the Kaiser Chiefs live performance is where it's at for me and they achieved just the right balance of new tracks from the album Stay Together and the classics that everyone loves to hear. Parachute and Hole In My Soul from the new album really came to life hearing them live. Ruby, Every Day I Love You Less & Less and I Predict A Riot were an absolute delight and set the whole crowd bouncing.

If you are finding the production on Stay Together just a little bit tame, get out an hear it live. You won't be disappointed so wear your bouncing shoes ;-)

Having seen Kaiser Chiefs on 2 other occasions, they did not disappoint yet again, previously at this venue too (Winter Gardens, Margate).

They played a variety of their hits from over the years and also a sneak preview of what is to come (later this year). Songs included Never Miss A Beat, Parachute, Cannons and Ruby.

For such a small venue, Ricky Wilson and co certainly know how to get the crowd going, although that is really not hard to do.

Kaiser Chiefs were on stage for approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and was well worth it.

I'm looking forward to seeing them again LIVE(hopefully soon)

This was possibly the best concert I've ever been to.

The smaller venue made it so much more personal than bigger venues.

The spot on view of the guys no matter where you were sat was great.

The Kaiser Chiefs performance was epic, from older to brand new songs with plenty of crowd pleasing hits.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show and have even thought about looking for last minute tickets to another gig before the tour is over.

Just to top it off we got to meet Ricky, Simon & Vijay and got photos and autographs.

Made it even more special, can't thank the guys enough

An absolutely brilliant performance from Ricky and the Band ar the Armed Forces Day Event on 29th July 2019 on what was the hottest day of the year.

Thousand of folk patiently waited throughout the day in sweltering temperatures for The Kaiser Chiefs they definitely didn't disappoint, one young lad got plucked from the front to perform on stage with Ricky and came away with his tambourine, he face was of pure surprise and joy. the crowd went wild, and one very happy young boy who will remember this event for the rest of his life.

Incredible show, full of energy, lights and smoke. A great set list that included all the classics from the old angry mob Kaisers to the modern, more mainstream KC. Ricky's enthusiasm and passion was endless, at times it was hard to follow where he was performing next as he stalked the pit playing to the cameras, moved through the floor to play from the back of the crowd and climbed scaffolding!

A great great night, shame if you missed it!

Biography - Kaiser Chiefs

Kaiser chiefs fan report: ratings and reviews, 10 reviews (ø 4.5), great night.

Really impressed with venue. Paid extra for the luxury experience as a present for my wife. Warm greeting from staff and nice touch with welcome glass of bubbly. Great to be able to relax in comfortable seated area before gig, meal provided was good. Arena layout very good and great view from seats, entrance/exit really good. Great that experience allows you to go back into lounge at end of show to give time for crowd to disperse. Now to the band, Chiefs were great again, really got crowd going and lighting/effects very good. Would recommend paying extra for the experience.

Entertaining and Creative but ruined by support

Really took some getting into following the support act hence the good rating. They kind of set the mood for me and it wasnt a good one, I wasnt expecting anything overly special but words cannot describe how annoying & repetative they were with some weird computerised/monotone voice intended to replicate old fashioned radio/tv broadcasting, had they at least made the effort to involve the crowd personally by actual speaking themselves or attempting vocals themselves it would have been a little more bearable. I was actually at the point where I just wanted to walk out. Once the Kaiser Chiefs came on it took me sometime for my ears to recover from the support act and my mood to lift. With the Kaisers one or two performaces and involving crowds were almost identical to when I saw them at a festival last year which was a bit predictable from my point of view. The sound and lighting was really good and obviously the songs themselves were performed brilliantly as expected, I also liked the creativity towards the end with the mock backstage roasting. The atmosphere when I predict a riot came on made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up!

Great energy

Venue easy to find. Support act werent my cup of tea, but others with me enjoyed them. Ricky Wilson full of energy (and easy on the eye). Stairs to get up to row P on second floor were quite steep. We had to come down them before the band finished to avoid getting squashed on the way down with our 10 year old. Only disappointment was the guy smoking the e-cigarette next to me. I thought they werent allowed but there was no way to report it. Wembley have a number you can text for antisocial behaviour. Could do with one of those in the arena.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
