I think that the concert was absolutely amazing!! I got good sits and was able to enjoy every second!!! He was as always a wonderful performer!! I will go back again any time ;) The only thing I didn’t like was that the concert was supposed to start at 8 and it didn’t almost 30 minutes after , also the people standing on the isle…. Not fair

A lot of the fans I'm sure were working class fans. The event took place on a Thursday evening a night that most work the next day. The concert started late. One disappointment is that he didn't sing my favorite song. My sister traveled from Connecticut to see him. I really wanted her to have a great experience. She did.

Colombian superstar Fonseca has announced a return to North America in 2023 to support his brand new album 'Viajante' . The 14-city tour kicks off February 23rd in Montreal and extends into June making additional stops in Toronto, Houston, Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Raleigh, Atlanta, Miami and Orlando. Also during the year, the singer will be heading over to Central/South America and Europe for additional performances.

Fonseca released his sixth studio album 'Viajante' on April 27th, 2022 via Sony Music Latin. The new album follows up 2019's 'Agustín' which won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the Latin Grammy Awards and features guest appearances by Ana Torroja , Cali Y El Dandee , Spencer Ludwig , Kinky and Melendi . Back in 2021, the tropipop singer joined forces with Andrés Cepeda and launched their Compadres Tour performing their collaborative song 'La Promesa' as well as fan-favorites from each of their extensive discographies.

Fonseca never fails to provide a high-energy, engaging show! He played some of his earlier music, which was a nice surprise. Such a top rate artist. He and his band always are able to perform their songs like it's opening night. Definitely well seasoned performers and top rate musicians! Would listen to them live as often as I could :)

Discovered Fonseca by chance this year and when I found out he was coming to L’Olympia Theatre in Montreal for his Tour Simples Corazones, I decided: why not? That was July 2019. Fonseca was awesome. Such a simple humble artist. He sang 20+ songs. Will definitely see him and his band again. Thank you Fonseca.

The Jazz Plaza 2024 Festival that will take place in the Havana, Cuba will officially “begin on January 21 and last until the 28th, but it’s going to have an advance on the 20th, at the National Theater, with the show Noche insular, by pianist José María Vitier.” This year will mark the 39th edition of the Jazz Festival , presenting various concerts spreading throughout the city, celebrating Jazz in all its beauty.  “The closing will be in charge of Roberto Fonseca and the National Ballet of Cuba at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater on the 28th, in tribute to the 75th anniversary of the company directed by Viengsay Valdés. It will have as guests the singer Mayito Rivera and the group Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.”

Jazz Plaza is the Festival that Cuba deserves

A few years ago the pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca joined the organizing committee of the Jazz Plaza Festival . This year he returned as the artistic director of the event. Regarding his expectations, he commented to CubaSí:

“I’m very happy, because when I started as music director, the capacity was not what it is now. The Festival has always had interest, but it fell into a rut, it needs a little push, and I think the result will be seen today: the press conference is full, the interest of the musicians in wanting to do new things, even the formats for which it is forbidden to work with jazz things, they are very open and cooperate with one That has always been my intention: to make the Jazz Festival a laboratory where all styles meet and are welcomed.” Read full interview here .

Jazz Plaza Fest Back in 2024

The cities of Havana and Santiago de Cuba will host the 39th Jazz Plaza International Festival in January next year, the event’s organizing committee announced on Friday.

In a press conference in Havana, Victor Rodriguez who heads the organizing committee said that high on the festival agenda is the work “Jazz Plaza” by musician and showman Bobby Carcases, creator of the festival.

Carcases announced guests from the United States, Canada and The Netherlands like Nachito Herrera, Ted Nash, Janio Abreu, and the Mal Paso Company among other outstanding jazz performers.

Festival artistic director and musician Roberto Fonseca said that a special moment at the festival will include the fusion of jazz with classic ballet , which will be a dream come true for his artistic work and a tribute to the Cuban National Ballet Company on its 75 anniversary.

With its free sets nestled in the heights of Chamonix, the Cosmo Jazz Festival is on the way to becoming one of the most beautiful in France. Organized by André Manoukian and Charles Vetter, this family-friendly summer program is complemented by a varied line-up of quality. After a memorable performance by bassist Kyle Eastwood in 2021, the event returns in 2022 with the brilliant Roberto Fonseca . Originally from Cuba, the pianist has compiled an interesting discography (we remember a beautiful session with Fatoumata Diawara in Marciac) where Afro-American, Latin, but also classical influences are merged.

This fascinating repertoire reveals the richness of the musical heritage of the great Caribbean island. The 38th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival will take place in January 2023. Havana and Santiago de Cuba will be the sites of a great musical celebration that will bring together prestigious Cuban and foreign artists in the Greater Antilles in the free spirit of jazz. You & The Night & The Music 2022 is back! New Episode of Isla Sonora

Roberto Fonseca drives us through roads of Havana and enjoy the wind while great trumpeters play on the radio. These sonorous winds start and culminate with the fabulous dances enlivened by the orchestra led by Félix Chapottin and Miguelito Cuní , Cuban legends capable of lighting the stove at any time. This is not only a bolero, it is a declaration of love, it is the total surrender to the loved one. The list of performers that Roberto brings to this edition of La Isla Sonora is not just any old classic: Benny Moré alongside Pedro Vargas, a legendary encounter of which anecdotes are still told; José Antonio Méndez, brilliant poet of the Cuban filin; Guillermo Portabales, the creator of the guajira de salón; Barbarito Diez, the voice of danzón and elegance made song; Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo, another duo that Roberto himself was able to accompany; Abelardo Barroso, godfather of son and cha cha chá; María Teresa Vera, the first diva and first lady of Cuban song; or Nat King Cole and his magnificent vision of the Latin romantic song.

Focusing more on Cuba and on the large number of talents that La Isla has given to the world, Fonseca takes a journey through the past and present of Caribbean jazz and the work of great pianists and composers who have mixed jazz with mambo, descargas, cha-cha-cha and rumba. Roberto Fonseca is a Havana-born pianist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and conductor. Roberto Fonseca will be performing two exclusive dates in the Netherlands this fall. Fonseca Announces 2021 ‘Fall YESUN Tour’

Roberto Fonseca will return to the road after an amazing summer tour with the Fall YESUN Tour. The 17-date tour is set to kick off on September 25th at Fiestas de la Mercè in Barcelona. Detroit Jazz Festival

Headliners in Detroit from September 3–6 will include Dee Dee Bridgewater (the festival’s 2021 artist in residence), Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, Abdullah Ibrahim, Anat Cohen, Roberto Fonseca, Sean Jones, Kenny Garrett, and Gregory Porter , among others.

The world’s largest free jazz festival takes place each Labor Day weekend in downtown Detroit. Roberto Fonseca will be performing on September 5th along with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Garrett, Gregory Porter among many others.

Omara Portuondo returns to the European stage. For her farewell, “la novia del filin” has wanted to surround herself with friends and will be accompanied on stage by pianist Roberto Fonseca , who will be the musical director of her concerts, and musicians Yandy Martinez, Ruly Herrea and Andrés Coayo. With concerts confirmed in Barcelona, Mallorca and Menorc a, the diva will bring the best Cuban son this summer and it is not ruled out that she will make special appearances at Fonseca’s concerts scheduled in France.

Cuba celebrates the International Jazz Day 2021

The Havana Jazz Plaza Festival and the UNESCO Transcultura Programme: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity celebrate International Jazz Day 2021 with an online concert and creative exchange from the Caribbean, directed by Cuban musician Roberto Fonseca who presents the Jazz Plaza Band, and with the participation, for the first time, of artists from nine of the 17 Caribbean beneficiary countries of the Transcultura Programme , who will join this jazz festival virtually. This sub-regional concert will feature Caribbean musicians Andre Woodvine from Barbados, Barbara Cadet from Saint Lucia, Oshane Love from Jamaica, Michele Henderson from Dominica, Reginal Policard from Haiti, James Sanker from Belize, Casandra Núñez from the Dominican Republic, and Cuba’s Roberto Fonseca and Bobby Carcassés. The Concert will be a means to promote and integrate the work of Caribbean artists, as well as a didactic material available for use in the teaching-learning process in the region.

Hyperrealism hits the stage: the legendary Cabane Cubaine is taking over concert halls for wild nights of dancing! Shall we…?

The poet Leopold Senghor wrote of the enticing sounds and smells drifting out of the Cabane Cubaine and tempting passers-by on rue Fontaine.

A century later, it’s the intoxicating perfume of the talented Roberto Fonseca that will accompany this jazzy air and take us on a wild dance.

“To the rhythms of jazz, and recently discovered Cuban music, we danced feverishly until dawn, in the dozen or so dance halls of the district”, recalled the writer Alejo Carpentier in his Chronicles. This was the 30s, and the Cabane Cubaine was the most famous cabaret in Paris.

Nowadays considered a ‘senior pastime’, the concept of the dance hall has been brought up to date in an outrageous venture from the man who once managed Buena Vista Social Club and currently manages piano virtuoso Roberto Fonseca. This is time travel. A deterritorialization of space and time. The sultry atmosphere of 1930s jazz clubs is recreated in the very same concert halls. The aim: putting real life experience back on the agenda. Cuban music needs to inhabit people’s bodies, to induce that sensual  swing; the lead role is given to the audience, with the music at their service. The idea is already working its charm. All over the world, Roberto Fonseca will take up the challenge of creating an even more immersive experience in the golden age of Cuban music. Suitably attired, the virtuoso and his band will play the intoxicating sounds of Cuba’s jazz age, inspired by the great names of the time, like pianist Lily Martinez, to name but one. M72 World Tour

We told you about our new album 72 Seasons , so what’s next now that we’ve escaped the studio? Hit the road, of course! You want a tour, we’ve got a tour... how about two full years worth of shows?!?!

Over the past few years, we have been so inspired by the dedication and family/community vibe of the fans who traveled to San Francisco for our recent weekend celebrations, first in 2019 with the two S&M2 shows, followed by last year’s 40th Anniversary shows. On top of that, we had a blast being a part of the 2021 Wimmer Festivals when we played two nights in one city, each with a totally different setlist. With all of that in mind, the M72 tour was born!

Starting in April of 2023, we’ll be visiting 22 different cities around the world and playing two nights in each city, with each “No Repeat Weekend” show a completely unique experience: Two totally different set lists with two different bands opening the show each night! Purchase a two-day ticket, and you won’t see the same song twice for a total of over 30 songs spanning our 40+ years of being lucky enough to make music. Most of the shows (sorry, not all - we tried!) will be on Fridays and Sundays, so we’ll be sure to have lots of extracurricular events for you to hang with fellow Metallica fans at before the shows kick-off and on the Saturday night in between.

Presented worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (in North America only), and brought to you by our friends at Live Nation, the M72 tour also launches a completely different look for us in stadiums – we’ll be in the round in the middle of the field. On top of that, the Snake Pit has been relocated to the center of the stage so that fans there will have a complete 360 view of the show. Each weekend offers a variety of Enhanced Experiences , ranging from access to a meet and greet, production and stage tour, food and beverage in the “Black Box” lounge to early entry into the venue and the aforementioned Snake Pit. The very popular “Black Laminate” is back, now known as the “I Disappear Ticket,” and is the ultimate pass for the fan who wants to run away with us for multiple weekends. In keeping with the theme of two completely unique shows each weekend, we’re excited to share the stage with different bands each night, including some we have traveled with before and new friends who are joining us for the first time. Signing up for the entire adventure with us are Five Finger Death Punch, Ice Nine Kills, and MammothWVH, and some of you will see Pantera, Architects, Greta Van Fleet, or Volbeat, depending on the shows you attend. Two-day discounted tickets will be on sale Friday, December 2, for all shows. Fan Club presales start early on Wednesday, November 30, with various other presales beginning later that day and throughout the week. I loved every second of it. Small venues are always the best, because you can get closer and almost feel like you are in the show rather just watching it.
