CruiseMapper logo

On Monday, May 6th, AROYA Cruises (Cruise Saudi’s travel brand) will debut at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai UAE , a significant annual gathering of travel industry leaders, pioneers, and professionals from around the world.

This will mark AROYA's first appearance at ATM, where it will introduce its recently launched and distinctively crafted cruise line to a global audience. Embodying a vision to redefine holiday experiences in Arabia, AROYA stands out with offerings tailored to Arabian preferences, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage and renowned Hafawa (hospitality).

The exhibition booth of AROYA at ATM will immerse visitors in onboard experiences and designs, featuring interactive displays, ship models, and cabin showcases, providing an exclusive preview of this innovative cruise line.

Moreover, delegates from AROYA will leverage this premier industry platform to forge strategic partnerships through MoUs and engage in insightful discussions with industry leaders and trade media.

Turky Kari (AROYA's Executive Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications) will participate in a panel discussion on ‘The Potential of Cruise: Creating Swell in the Middle East’ on Wednesday, May 8, exploring opportunities and challenges in establishing the Gulf and wider Middle East as a thriving cruise destination.

PRESSR: AROYA Cruises signs MoU with production powerhouse MBC STUDIOS at ATM 2024

Dubai: AROYA Cruises, the new Arabian cruise line from PIF-owned company Cruise Saudi, and MBC STUDIOS, a leading global production powerhouse, by MBC GROUP, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU signing between the two Arabian entities took place at this year’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, where AROYA Cruises is exhibiting for the first time, and where travel trade leaders, pioneers, and professionals from across the globe have gathered for four days of meetings, networking and events. ATM is the leading global event for the inbound and outbound travel industry in the Middle East.

Based on a shared vision for growth in the Middle East and beyond, and a passion for showcasing all that the region has to offer, the MOU marked the intent for AROYA Cruises’ future cooperation with the film and TV production company on cinematic production projects.

MBC STUDIOS is ambitious as a global production powerhouse, born to realise the untold and unrivalled storytelling potential of the Middle East; an ambition which synergises with that of AROYA Cruises, which aims to provide authentic Arabian experiences and showcase the very best of the Middle East to the world by acting as a conduit between land and sea.

Cruise Saudi’s CEO, Lars Clasen, commented: “Partnerships and collaborations are a crucial part of the success of any cruise line, and we are delighted to have signed an MOU with MBC STUDIOS. We have a shared passion for the Middle East and strive to showcase authentic Arabian life and the extensive wonders the region has to offer to the world. A good cruise line draws on aspects of storytelling to delight its passengers and showcase the destinations it visits, and like MBCSTUDIOS, we know that the Middle East has a captivating story to tell.  We look forward to working with MBC STUDIOS on future projects.”

Rooted in its vision to reinvent the meaning of holidays in Arabia, AROYA Cruises is distinctive in its offering and design, and the first of its kind tailored to Arabian preferences. A floating resort with facilities across 18 decks, including 15 restaurants, 20 venues for entertainment, a retail area, and wellness and spa facilities, the recently launched AROYA Cruises celebrates Saudi’s rich cultural heritage and signature hospitality, Hafawa.

Former Miss USA 2023 alleges toxic work environment in resignation letter

Noelia Voigt gave up her crown Monday and shared a statement on social media.

Former Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt alleged in an eight-page resignation letter obtained by ABC News on Friday that the Miss USA Organization cultivated a toxic work environment that led to her decision to step down.

Voigt resigned her title Monday, citing mental health.

"There is a toxic work environment within the Miss USA organization that, at best, is poor management and, at worst, is bullying and harassment," Voigt wrote in the letter, in part. "This started soon after winning the title of Miss USA 2023."

Voigt named Laylah Rose, the president and CEO of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA organizations, in her resignation letter and claimed Rose "was generally inaccessible for communication," didn't offer her support, and allegedly "slandered [her]."

Voigt also claimed she was "made to feel unsafe" at events she attended as the Miss USA 2023 titleholder, which "culminated in being sexually harassed at the 2023 Sarasota Christmas Parade."

"At future events, the organization neglected its responsibility to provide a chaperone and/or traveling companion entirely, and I was alone," Voigt claimed.

PHOTO: Noelia Voigt attends "PEOPLE: Celebrating 50 Years" Exhibition Opening at Fotografiska New York on May 9, 2024 in New York City.

In her resignation letter, Voigt claimed her experience after being named Miss USA in September 2023 took a toll on both her physical and mental health and led her to being diagnosed with anxiety, and prescribed medication and other treatments.

"It is important that I make this abundantly clear: the toll that this treatment, experience, and abuse has taken on me will have long-lasting impacts on my health," she wrote. "This is unfortunately not something that will magically disappear. I know the harsh reality of that fact, and I will not continue to allow myself to feel victimized anymore."

Overall, Voigt claimed in her resignation letter that she had "concern" for the Miss USA brand and alleged Rose "is also actively building a culture of fear and control, the antithesis of women's empowerment, that is causing a toxic workplace that is unsafe for future titleholders and employees."

"Good Morning America" has reached out to the Miss USA organization for comment on the claims in Voigt's letter.

Voigt announced she would resign and give up her crown in an Instagram post Monday, citing mental health.

"In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health," Voigt wrote in a lengthy statement at the time, in which she detailed her "favorite part of being Miss USA," which she said included "getting to work with Smile Train, being a fervent advocate for anti-bullying, dating violence awareness and prevention, immigration rights and reform, and shedding light on my roots as the first Venezuelan-American woman to win Miss USA."

She added that her "journey as Miss USA has been incredibly meaningful, representing Utah with pride, and later the USA at Miss Universe."

"I am grateful for the love and support of the fans, old and new, my family, my friends, my coaches, former state and local directors, and my darling beloved Miss Teen USA, UmaSofia [Srivastava]," she wrote.

The Miss USA Organization and Rose issued a response to Voigt's announcement on Monday, sharing a joint Instagram post and writing that they supported Voigt's decision to step down.

Umasofia Srivastava, Miss Teen USA 2023, also announced Wednesday that she was resigning from her position.

"After careful consideration, I've decided to resign as I find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization," Srivastava wrote in part in her own Instagram post .

In a statement to USA Today on Wednesday, Rose said, "Our all-encompassing goal at Miss USA is to celebrate and empower women. Our participants make a real difference in this country and around the globe. All along, my personal goal as the head of this organization has been to inspire women to always create new dreams, have the courage to explore it all, and continue to preserve integrity along the way. I hold myself to these same high standards and I take these allegations seriously. Please be assured that the well-being of all individuals associated with Miss USA is my top priority."

A contingent of Miss USA 2023 contestants released a joint statement in support of Voigt on Thursday, which was shared on Instagram by Miss Wisconsin USA 2023 Alexis Loomans.

"Prioritizing one's mental health is of the utmost importance, and we stand behind her," the statement read in part.

The group also called on the Miss USA Organization to release Voigt from a confidentiality nondisclosure agreement within 24 hours "so that she is free to speak on her experiences and time as Miss USA."

"Our goal is to give Noelia her voice back. We are asking for full transparency for contestants in the class of 2024 and beyond," they wrote.

Following Voigt's resignation, Miss USA announced Thursday that Savannah Gankiewicz, Miss Hawaii USA and the first runner-up, would become the new 2023 titleholder .

Episode Notes

Airbnb is ramping up its plans for international expansion. The short-term rental giant is looking to grow significantly beyond its five biggest markets, writes Executive Editor Dennis Schaal.

CEO Brian Chesky said during its first-quarter earnings call that Airbnb is ready to step on the gas regarding international expansion. He cited Mexico, Brazil, China and Japan, among other countries, as markets the company is focusing on. Chesky said Airbnb recently updated its app in China, and the company is making similar improvements in Japan and South Korea.

Next, Tripadvisor executives said the company doesn’t have any plans for a sale at the moment despite having previously explored the possibility, writes Executive Editor Schaal.

Tripadvisor made the announcement during its recent first-quarter earnings call. The company had formed a special committee to review potential deals after controlling shareholder Liberty Tripadvisor revealed in February it was exploring a potential sale. Skift reported earlier that private equity firm Apollo Global Management was looking into the deal.

Meanwhile, the company offered a weaker outlook for its major businesses, which it attributed to changes in Google’s travel search results pages.

Finally, Saudi Arabia is set to unveil a new cruise brand Aroya this December that aims to serve a domestic market, writes Middle East Reporter Josh Corder.

Aroya ships will include cigar lounges, jacuzzis, wellness facilities among other features. However, Corder reports the company has no plans to add features that would appeal to overseas travelers – including alcohol. Aroya spokesperson Turky Kari said the company is targeting Arabian markets, adding wherever its ships travel, Aroya would follow Saudi law.

Aroya Cruises selects naval architects to redesign first cruise ship

Aroya Cruises has selected British naval design studio SMC to be lead designer for the refurbishment project on the former World Dream.

Cruise Saudi, the parent company of Aroya Cruises, acquired World Dream earlier this year following the collapse of Dream Cruises, part of the Genting Hong Kong group.

The vessel has now been renamed Manama and sent to Europe for a bow-to-stern refit and refurbishment ahead of her debut as the first ship in the Aroya fleet.

aroya cruises 2023

Aroya Cruises selects SMC as lead designer for refit of World Dream.

SMC will provide interior and architectural design, branding and art consultancy throughout the refit and refurbishment process.

Along with SMC, Partner Ship Design has also been chosen as a partner designer to handle the design details, documentation and follow-ups as well as engineering support.

“We are delighted to be working with some of the best visionary innovators in cruise ship design for our premium cruise offering, Aroya Cruises,” said Lars Clasen, CEO of Cruise Saudi.

“Working with sector-leading experts such as SMC and PSD will play a crucial role in ensuring that AroyaCruises offers a comfortable, luxurious and inspiring environment from which passengers can enjoy the highest standard of service and facilities,” he added.

Cruise Saudi is a government-backed organisation leading the emergence of Saudi Arabia in the global cruise industry.

The Kingdom has rapidly established itself as an emergent cruise destination, and will now begin growing a domestic home market through the launch of the Arab world’s first locally-targeted domestic cruise brand.

aroya cruises 2023

World Dream

World Dream  will be transformed into a showcase for Saudi Arabian hospitality and culture and will homeport in Jeddah, offering yet-to-be-revealed roundtrip cruises in the Red Sea and further afield.

The changes being made to the onboard design and cruise experience have not yet been detailed, with the most eagerly anticipated details being whether the cruise line will serve alcohol onboard, and whether it will feature a casino like most ships.

Alcohol consumption is not allowed in Saudi Arabia, and gambling is forbidden, but there have been rumours that Aroya Cruises will be operated as an offshore entity, creating a legal loophole in which it will be able to offer such services in international waters.

The appointment of SMC and Partner Ship Design comes after Aroya Cruises announced that MJM Marine and DE Wave had been appointed to handle the fit and finish of the interior of the ship , while leading cruise retail operator Gebr. Heinemann will operate the ship’s onboard mall .

Meanwhile Columbia Blue will handle ship management for the new cruise line , including staffing and technical support.

Royal Caribbean recruiting up to 10K workers in 2024 to meet record cruise demand

R oyal Caribbean is looking to recruit as many as 10,000 workers worldwide this year to staff its ships and private destinations as demand for ocean cruises hits fresh records.

The number of people taking cruises hit an all-time high in 2023, and with the surge in demand and larger vessels, labor needs are growing.

Tourism boards and port operators from around the world said Royal Caribbean — which already has a workforce of close to 100,000 — is looking to hire worldwide.

The company confirmed to Reuters that it’s anticipating hiring around 10,000 workers this year.

According to the company’s annual filing, its sea-based workforce last year — which comprises of staffers on its cruise ships — totaled about 88,700 employees, 6% lower than the year prior.

The giant’s land-based workforce, meanwhile — which is comprised primarily of port operations and corporate office roles — including at its private destinations consisted of approximately 9,500 full-time employees in 2023, up 17% from the year prior.

“The recruiting strategy follows the business strategy of moderate capacity growth,” a company spokesperson told Reuters.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) in April was reportedly approached by Royal Caribbean in regards to recruitment and hiring, a request it hadn’t received in the past, said Natasha Chalwell, BVI Port Authority marketing director.

But the cruise giant isn’t only focused on the Caribbean: The company also approached West Africa’s Gambia Tourism Board in April with an interest in hiring more workers, a spokesperson said.

For reference, Royal Caribbean currently employs about 700 workers from the nation, which is the smallest on mainland Africa.

Royal Caribbean’s influx in hiring comes at a time when it’s adding three new ships to its fleet, the company rep added.

Earlier this year, the company debuted the world’s largest cruise ship, dubbed Icon of the Seas .

The $2 billion behemoth reportedly  lived up to the over-the-top  hype surrounding its launch, which included buzz that it spans 20 stories and boasts eight distinct neighborhoods.

Icon of the Seas can accommodate nearly 10,000 passengers and crew at full capacity, who are invited to enjoy a 17,000-square-foot on-board water park or book an upscale reservation at the 38-seat Empire Supper Club, an eight-course dinner complete with cocktail pairings and live jazz.

All the while, the gargantuan ship is sailing on week-long itinteraries from Miami to Caribbean destinations like Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis and Cozumel, Mexico, among others.

Come July, Utopia of the Seas is scheduled to sail every Friday and Monday from Port Canaveral, Fla., to Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.

The forthcoming ship can accommodate 5,668 guests at capacity and offers 21 dining options, five pools, a zip line, ice-skating rink, basketball court and two rock-climbing walls.

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, meanwhile, is anticipated to set sail in the summer of 2025.

The company’s website touts the ship as having “over 40 ways to dine and drink,” plus “six record-breaking waterslides” and “seven splashy pools.”

Royal Caribbean said its bookings hit a record in the first quarter of 2024, boosting quarterly revenue to $3.73 billion, up 29%.

At the same time, the Miami-based company’s stock price has doubled over the past year to hit a new record.

Cruise ship worker accused of stabbing 3 people with scissors on board vessel bound for Alaska

aroya cruises 2023

JUNEAU, Alaska — A cruise ship worker from South Africa was arrested Tuesday in Alaska’s capital city, accused of attacking a woman and two security guards with scissors on board the vessel, according to authorities.

The U.S. attorney’s office says the man is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon within maritime and territorial jurisdiction. Online court records do not show an attorney for the 35-year-old man.

According to an affidavit from FBI Special Agent Matthew Judy, the man was recently hired by a cruise line and joined the ship, the Norwegian Encore, in Seattle on Sunday. The ship set off that day for a weeklong trip with scheduled stops in Alaska ports, including the capital of Juneau, and British Columbia.

The alleged incident happened west of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, as the ship was sailing to Alaska. According to the affidavit, during the “late evening” Sunday, ship personnel saw the man trying to deploy a lifeboat, and he was taken by security to a medical center for an evaluation.

While there, he “became irrational and attempted to leave,” and “physically attacked” a guard and a nurse, the affidavit states. He ran into another room, where he grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed a woman who was being examined, as well as two guards who tried to intervene before being subdued and held in a “shipboard jail,” the affidavit says. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

The ship arrived in Juneau on Tuesday, when he was arrested by the FBI, the U.S. attorney’s office says.

Nicole Kidman's 4 Children: All About Bella, Connor, Sunday and Faith

Nicole Kidman shares two children, Bella and Connor, with ex Tom Cruise, and two daughters, Sunday and Faith, with husband Keith Urban

aroya cruises 2023

Nicole Kidman is the proud mother of four kids.

The Big Little Lies star shares two children, Bella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise . She also has two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, with her longtime love Keith Urban , to whom she's been married for nearly two decades.

Kidman became a first-time mother in 1993, when she and her then-husband Cruise adopted their daughter, Bella. A few years later, the pair welcomed son Connor into their family. Though Kidman and Cruise split in 2001, she told Elle in 2008 that the former couple's kids were raised "amidst a lot of love."

"They are generous, kind and hardworking," Kidman later said of her two older children. "And these are traits that I love to see in my children ."

After splitting from Cruise, the Being the Ricardos actress went on to marry Urban on June 25, 2006. Two years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Sunday Rose, followed by her younger sister, Faith Margaret, in 2010.

Kidman, who has been open about her fertility struggles, told Marie Claire Australia in 2021 that she always wanted a big family. "I would've loved 10 kids," she said. "I love mothering, I love kids: They're quirky, funny and unfiltered. And then you get to see them grow and send them on their way."

Kidman said that her daughters are part of her support system while talking to PEOPLE for the magazine's 50th anniversary in April 2024.

"I have my sister, mother, nieces, nephews, daughters. I'm raising a soon-to-be 16-year-old and a 13-year-old, who are divine. They're just lovely people ," she said.

From everything she's said about being a mother to her sweetest moments with her children, here's what to know about Nicole Kidman 's four kids: Bella, Connor, Sunday and Faith.

Bella Kidman Cruise , 31

Kidman and Cruise adopted daughter Isabella Jane shortly after her birth in Miami on Dec. 22, 1992.

"From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies ," Kidman told Vanity Fair in 2007. "And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that's when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella."

Though she grew up with her father in Beverly Hills, Isabella – who goes by the nickname Bella – has stayed mostly out of the spotlight. She graduated from West London's Delmar Academy of Make-up and Hair, before transitioning to a career in fashion.

The burgeoning designer got her start working for Holmes and Yang, the fashion line of Cruise's ex-wife, Katie Holmes . She started her own line , BKC (a.k.a Bella Kidman Cruise), in 2018, selling t-shirts adorned with her own drawings.

"Bella has been an artist her entire life. Her go-to medium is marker on paper with her inspiration for her artwork drawn largely from friends, fashion, and music," a statement on her line's site reads .

In 2015, she married British I.T. consultant Max Parker , and though neither of her famous parents attended the nuptials, Cruise reportedly helped pay for the event, while a Kidman source told PEOPLE that she was " very happy for Bella ."

While Bella tends to keep a low profile, she does maintain an active Instagram presence , regularly posting photos of her art along with the occasional selfie. In March 2023, she even debuted a new hairstyle on the app, showing off her newly dark brunette shag haircut and bangs.

In December 2023, former NFL player Derrick Brooks shared a photo on Instagram of himself posing with Bella, Connor and Cruise at a Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game — the actor's first public outing with his two older children in nearly 15 years.

"Good Evening, Wow, look who stopped by my office before our @tblightning game tonight! @tomcruise. I was a little star struck but played it cool and He said he was too!" Brooks wrote in his caption.

Kidman and Cruise adopted their second child, son Connor, just after his birth in Florida on Jan. 17, 1995. Though her marriage to Cruise ended six years later, the actress has expressed her gratitude for the relationship, as it brought her her two older children.

"I got married really fast and really young," Kidman said in 2012. "But I don't regret that because it got me Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period."

Connor grew up in Los Angeles, and got his first real taste of the spotlight in 2008, when he acted alongside Will Smith in the drama Seven Pounds . Though he also had a role in the 2012 action film Red Dawn , he switched to music as a teen, releasing his debut single in 2013 and landing DJ gigs around the country.

Connor is also an avid deep-sea fisherman, a passion he attributes to his travels with his parents growing up. "We used to go fishing a lot when I was a little kid," he told PEOPLE in 2016. "I was blessed to travel the world as a young kid and now I'm traveling the world working."

The 29-year-old now resides in Florida and dedicates much of his time to fishing, as a source told PEOPLE in 2018. " Connor has a pretty simple life in Clearwater ," the insider said. "He lives in his own home in a Scientology community. His life is deep-sea fishing. He has a lot of friends and seems very well-liked."

In addition to his personal Instagram account — where he occasionally posts snaps of his impressive catches — he also runs a separate account dedicated to his barbecuing business, Connor's Meatshack .

Most recently, Connor shared a photo from a golf outing in April 2023. In the snap , he can be seen giving a thumbs up to the camera as he hits the course with a friend. "🏌️‍♂️⛳️," he captioned the image.

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban , 15

Kidman and Urban welcomed daughter Sunday Rose on July 7, 2008, in Nashville. According to PEOPLE, Kidman's father first suggested the name Sunday in honor of the Australian patron of the arts, Sunday Reed. The couple, who claim Sunday as their "favorite day," were clearly on board.

When Sunday was young, the family relocated to Tennessee. In addition to picking up her parents' Australian lingo, Sunday adopted a bit of a Southern accent.

"My daughters are Nashvillians! They have a southern drawl," Kidman told PEOPLE in 2016. "They have some Aussie. They have an unusual mix. They're hybrids."

Her Aussie accent isn't the only way she's following in her mom and dad's footsteps — Sunday has had a passion for music since she was a little girl.

"She sings incessantly," Kidman said in 2010 of her then-2-year-old-daughter. "She has a repertoire of about 30 songs: 'The ABC Song,' 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Traffic Light,' 'So Long, Farewell.' "

It also seems like Sunday wants to follow her mother into the filmmaking industry. In a 2018 interview for TIME 100, Kidman shared that Sunday was already thinking of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.

"I'm raising a little girl that's showing an interest in directing right now, " she said. "I want her to have a path for that."

At the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival, Kidman told E! News that Sunday also does some acting: "My daughter just got cast in her school play," she said. "So, that's been the main priority, learning lines with her."

Sunday and Faith made their red carpet debut in April 2024 at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, where their mom was the evening's honoree. "They're very, very supportive and incredibly loving ," Kidman told PEOPLE at the star-studded Los Angeles event.

Faith Margaret Kidman Urban , 13

Kidman and Urban surprised fans when they announced that they had welcomed daughter Faith Margaret via gestational surrogate on Dec. 28, 2010, in Nashville.

Like her sister, Faith's name has a sweet meaning. Despite their fertility struggles, Kidman and Urban " never gave up faith they'd have another child together," a friend of the couple told PEOPLE after her birth. As for her middle name, "Margaret" comes from Kidman's grandmother.

Juggling two young daughters with Kidman and Urban's busy careers isn't easy, though the actress told PEOPLE in 2019 that their family always comes first.

"At this stage in our lives, it's what works for the family and what works for our own joy," she said of avoiding jobs that mean too much time away from their daughters.

Kidman and Urban have done their best to keep their daughters' lives private, though both Faith and Sunday have occasionally made public appearances over the years. They were extras in their mom's HBO show Big Little Lies , and voiced baby birds in the film Angry Birds 2 . The girls even became close with the children of Kidman's Big Little Lies costars, as she explained to PEOPLE.

"They've grown up with those kids because I had them on-set around Monterey, and I'm like, 'Playdates, playdates!' " she said.

The pandemic brought on new challenges for Kidman's two younger children. Speaking to Glamour U.K. in November 2020, she explained that Faith and Sunday were " working through the emotions " of social distancing.

"One of the hardest things is just watching them pine and yearn for their friends," she added.

Earlier that year, Kidman spoke to Marie Claire Australia about how her husband was outnumbered and had to retreat from the "female-heavy" house on occasion.

" We're definitely female-heavy ! But as the girls say, 'The dog's a boy!' " she joked, adding that her husband finds solace in one of his shared hobbies with Faith.

"Oh, and he Googles cars — I'll know when he's stressed 'cause he's Googling cars," she said. "I couldn't care less what car I'm driving; you can pick me up in any old thing. But Keith and Faith love cars."

Though Kidman rarely posts her children on social media, she did share a sweet tribute for Faith's 11th birthday in December 2021. "Happy birthday our darling Faith. You are loved beyond measure," she captioned a photo of her daughter's birthday cake.
