Females below the age of 18 are not eligible to apply for this type of visa unless they are travelling with their parents.

According to a Cabinet resolution passed in July 2018, children under the age of 18 years who are accompanying adults, can get a  free visa for their visit from 15 July to 15 September each year.

Tourist visas through airlines

Each airline has some conditions, which must be met in order for your visa to be arranged by them. One of the conditions is flying with them. For more updated and specific information, check the following UAE-based airlines for visa types, facilities, terms and conditions:

  • Visa services from Etihad Airways  - Etihad Airways

  • Visa services from Fly Dubai  - Fly Dubai

In the UAE, residents with certain visas can sponsor family members to live in the country without a job.

If you are unemployed or a student under the age of 18, you need to be sponsored by a family member to remain in the Emirates year-round .

In October 2022, changes to the law meant that residents can now bring their parents and their spouse's parents without having to show they are the only source of support.

However, a minimum monthly salary is still required.

Here is everything you need to know about sponsoring family members.

What monthly income is required to sponsor parents or underage siblings?

To sponsor parents or underage siblings, the minimum salary threshold required is higher than for a wife or child.

Residents can sponsor up to five family members if they earn a minimum monthly salary of Dh10,000.

This increases to six family members if they earn at least Dh15,000 a month.

For more than six family members, dispensation is required.

The fee for sponsoring parents is Dh1,750, plus a refundable Dh5,000 deposit.

“Setting a minimum salary as a condition for expatriates wishing to sponsor family members is only to ensure they will be properly provided for,” said Nida Al Masri, a legal consultant at Justitia Advocates and Legal Consultants in Dubai.

“The terms and conditions are important to regulate this procedure, which reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting its expatriate community and creating a more inclusive society.”

Which accommodation is required to sponsor parents?

The law requires that sponsors are already in suitable accommodation before they apply for the family visa.

This is classified as at least a two-bedroom house or flat, before they apply for the family visa.

They must also present supporting documents that prove family ties at residency centres.

What documents do you need to sponsor parents?

The following documents should also be submitted:

  • Passport-size photograph of the family member
  • Copy of the family member's valid passport
  • Copy of the resident's Emirates ID, passport and residency page.
  • Proof of residence, such as a lease contract
  • Labour contract
  • Three months of bank statements for the resident

Can a woman sponsor her family?

In Abu Dhabi, a woman can sponsor her husband and children if the request is approved by the authorities, according to a customer service agent of the Federal Authority For Identity and Citizenship – ICA .

“She should have a valid work visa and her monthly salary should be at least Dh5,000. The cost of the one-year visa is Dh2,575 and it can be renewed for one more year,” said the executive.

In Dubai, a woman can sponsor her family, but her monthly salary should be at least Dh4,000 and her request must be approved by the GDRFA, the immigration authority.

“A wife can sponsor the family, but she has to obtain an no objection certificate from the husband. The NOC has to be notarised by the Dubai court notary service,” an Amer customer service representative said.

A single mother can also sponsor her child.

What does it cost to sponsor a spouse or child?

A husband can sponsor his immediate family members, such as his wife and children, if they have a minimum salary of Dh4,000 or Dh3,000 plus accommodation.

If these conditions are met, the husband must open a registration file.

This costs between Dh200 to Dh300 if they are outside the UAE, rising to up to four times as much if they are in the country, due to the price of the entry permit and the charge for change of status, according to the Amer Centre for visa services.

The medical test, Emirates ID typing and visa stamping will come to around Dh1,000 altogether. All costs are per person and there is no security deposit needed. Medical tests are not needed for children under 18.

Parents can sponsor sons who are 18 and can continue to do so until they are 25 . Unmarried daughters and disabled children are granted a residency permit regardless of their age.

The documents and the visa costs are the same and it is valid for two years.

90-day visit visa for family members

UAE residents can apply for 90-day entry permits for family members, rather than a 60-day visa, before sponsorship is finalised.

“The resident should have a refundable deposit of Dh1,000 to issue a visit visa for the family members,” the Amer Centre representative said.

The fee for an entry permit is Dh1,020 and the following documents should be submitted:

  • copy of the family member's valid passport
  • copy of the resident's Emirates ID
  • proof of residence, such as a lease contract or hotel reservation
  • copy of a return ticket

Visas can also be applied for online at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security website, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs website, or on the department's app.

UAE expats who want to sponsor their family or relatives on visit visa can do so for their first and second-degree relatives only, the Federal Authority for Identity and Nationality, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) confirmed.

According to the ICP, expats can sponsor their first-degree family or first-degree relatives on visit visa in the UAE. For Emirati sponsors, visit visa can be issued to their friend or relative, regardless of kinship.

Expats sponsoring their family or relative on visit visa must be employed, and their job must belong to the first or second professional level under the job categories by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. There are 459 jobs under the first or second professional levels.

Authorities added that for visit visa to be issued, there must be evidence of kinship, a purpose for the visit and a financial guarantee.

Expats and Emiratis can apply for visit visa for their relative or friend through the ICP app (UAEICP). The smart service was launched in January and allows applicants to choose a visit visa valid for 30 days, 60 days up to 90 days. Details here

According to the ICP, once a visit visa is issued, the recipient must enter the UAE within 60 days from the date of issuance of the entry permit. The visit visa holder can leave the country before the permit expires or extend it to avoid a fine of Dh100 per day of overstaying in the country. ICA/Expat Media

UAE/Dubai tourist visa: Requirements and application procedure

Updated: September 6, 2023

UAE or Dubai Tourist Visa Image

Over 70 nationalities do not require a UAE or Dubai tourist visa to enter the UAE or Dubai. Rest must obtain a prearranged UAE tourist visa through a UAE-based sponsor.

A UAE tourist visa can only be applied for through a sponsor. Any UAE-based airline, hotel, company, Emirate national or UAE resident can sponsor your UAE tourist visa.

Thankfully, all UAE or Dubai tourist visas are e-visas. You can apply online and receive the e-visa in the email.

Indian nationals with a valid US visa or a residence permit from the US, UK or EU can get a Visa on Arrival at all international airports.

UAE VISA EXEMPTION

UAE immigration refers to VISA-EXEMPTION as VISA ON ARRIVAL. But you will not fill out any forms, pay any fee or receive any visa sticker or print. When you arrive at the airport, you will head straight to the immigration and present your passport. You will be stamped and given entry. Therefore, in my opinion, it’s a VISA EXEMPTION and hence we will refer to it as a VISA EXEMPTION.

Entry permission

30 to 180 days depending on the nationality.

Documents to carry

All you need is your passport.

Only INDIAN passport holders with a valid US visa , US green card or residence permit from the UK or any EU country are eligible to obtain UAE Visa on Arrival.

Validity of UAE Visa on Arrival

UAE Visa on Arrival is valid for 14 days. It’s possible to extend it once for another 14 days.

How long can you stay in UAE with Visa on Arrival?

You can stay up to 14 days in the UAE with your Visa on Arrival. You can extend your visa for another 14 days at any AMER center in UAE. In that case, you can stay a total of 28 days in the UAE.

You need the following documentation to obtain a UAE Visa on Arrival.

Since it’s only Indian passport holders with a US visa, US green card or a residence permit from the UK or EU country, there will not be many in the line. So the Visa on Arrival process wouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

Obtaining Visa on Arrival at the airports in UAE

UAE or DUBAI TOURIST VISA

A UAE or Dubai tourist visa can only be applied through a UAE-based sponsor or an authorized agent. A sponsor can be a UAE-based airline, UAE-based hotel, UAE national or resident, UAE-based company or government entity or a UAE-based tour operator.

The sponsor is responsible for your actions in the UAE. If you overstay your visa, the sponsor is held responsible and will face consequences by the government of UAE.

Why do you need a sponsor for a UAE tourist visa?

A UAE-based sponsor is mandatory for all UAE tourist visas. Your sponsor is responsible for all your actions while you are in the UAE. They must make sure you leave the country in time without overstaying your visa. If you don’t know anyone personally in the UAE, you can use either your airline, hotel or tour agent for your visa processing.

It’s silly to still use sponsors in this day and age. The sponsor model is an old model and many countries are moving away from such ways of visa processing. But countries such as UAE, Singapore, etc. are still stuck with this visa model.

Which sponsor or agent should you use for your UAE tourist visa?

If you don’t have a sponsor, you can use a UAE-authorized agent to apply for your UAE tourist visa. There are a bazillion agents these days processing UAE tourist visas, including VFS Global.

Thanks to the internet, you can apply for a UAE tourist visa through an agent completely online in the comfort of your home. All you need is a scanned copy of your Passport ID page and a digital passport-size photo.

The fee, documentation and processing time vary by agent. Local agents in your country are usually cheaper but you must do your due diligence on their authenticity, hidden charges and processing time before applying through them.

Which agent do I recommend for a UAE visit visa?

My preferred agent for UAE or Dubai tourist visas is Etihad Airways. I usually prefer a reputed international agent, so I went with Etihad Airways. They only act as an agent for your visa and you don’t have to fly with Etihad Airways. You can fly with any budget airline and travel to/from any international airport in the UAE.

Other agents that you can use and their fee for a UAE 30-day single-entry tourist visa is below.

My preferred agent

  • Etihad Airways | 361 AED | Few hours | No security deposit

UAE based agents

  • Arabiers | 359 AED | 24-48 hours
  • Sharjah Airport Travel Agency (SATA) | 335 AED

India based agents

  • MakeMyTrip | Approx. 311 AED | 7-9 days

IMPORTANT Some agents will charge a security deposit which will be refunded to you on your exit from the UAE. So do your due diligence before applying for your UAE tourist visa with any of the above agents.

I have a detailed article on how to apply for a UAE or Dubai tourist visa online with Etihad Airways. Follow the article for step-by-step instructions on how to apply for your UAE tourist visa.

What types of UAE tourist visas are available?

Below are some of the different types of tourist visas available.

  • 30-day single-entry tourist visa
  • 90-day single-entry tourist visa
  • 30-day multiple-entry tourist visa
  • 90-day multiple-entry tourist visa
  • Long-term tourist visa

Most tourists usually need a 30-day single-entry tourist visa. It’s also the cheapest of all types of tourist visas. The procedure to apply for any of the above types of visas is pretty much the same, except for the fee.

Validity of UAE visit visa

All UAE tourist visas are valid for 60 days within which you must enter the UAE. Then depending on your visa, you will be given that many days of permission to stay in the UAE.

For example, if you hold a 30-day single-entry tourist visa, your visa will be valid for 60 days. You can enter the UAE anytime within that 60 days. When you enter, immigration will give you 30 days to stay in the UAE.

When to apply for your Dubai visit visa

You can apply for your UAE visit visa as early as possible. But apply at least 5 working days prior to your trip. Processing can take time and some agents require up to 10 working days to process.

How long can you stay in the UAE with a tourist visa

You can stay up to 30 days or 90 days depending on your visa. You can also extend the visas within the UAE for an additional 30 days or 90 days.

Documents required for UAE tourist visa

Usually, you will need the following documents.

  • A scan of your passport ID page
  • A recent colored digital photo
  • A copy of your flight ticket

ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE AT THE AIRPORT

UAE Dubai Entry Stamp in Passport

Entering the UAE by air

After you arrive at the airport, walk towards passport control and baggage claim.

If you hold an Indian passport and are planning to obtain a UAE Visa on Arrival, head to the following visa agent desk for your Visa on Arrival process. Once your Visa on Arrival is processed head to the immigration.

  • Sharjah Airport: SATA
  • Dubai Airport: Marhaba Services
  • Abu Dhabi: There are agents involved for Abu Dhabi airport, so head straight to the immigration

At the immigration, present your passport, boarding pass and Visa on Arrival fee receipt (if you hold an India passport and obtained Visa on Arrival) or your Dubai visit visa print.

The officers may ask you a few questions about your trip such as whether it’s your first time in UAE, how long you will stay, etc. You may be asked to show your return/onward ticket and your hotel booking.

If you are traveling on a one-way ticket, you can use OnwardTicket to get proof of an onward ticket.

UAE airports have automated passport controls when leaving the country. You will simply arrive at one of the automated passport control kiosks, scan your passport and follow the voice instructions. When the voice says move forward and face the camera, you will do so. Then the exit gate will open and you will exit. No exit stamp is given.

If you are having any issues with automated passport controls, you will be sent to a manned passport control counter.

Dubai Global Village at Night

A UAE or Dubai tourist visa is not required for 0ver 70 nationalities. Other nationalities must obtain a prearranged UAE tourist visa through a UAE-based sponsor or authorized agent.

All UAE or Dubai tourist visas are e-visas. You can apply online with your preferred agent and receive the e-visa in the email.

Indian nationals with a valid US visa or a residence permit from the US, UK or EU can get a Visa on Arrival at all international airports.

How to sponsor your family in the UAE – A complete guide

  • Family Visa Requirements
  • Eligibility Criteria
  • Required Documents
  • Validity and Renewal

The UAE population, especially its workforce, mainly consists of expatriates. The latest visa regulations simplify the UAE family sponsorship process, provided sponsors fall under a specified income bracket. This handy guide on sponsoring family members in the UAE can help you understand the rules and procedures for obtaining residency for your dependents. So, let’s take a look.

Please note that immigration rules in the UAE are subject to change. We will update our article if and when new laws are introduced, or any announcements are made. Also, note that we’ve only provided an overview of the process; you can visit Amer or GDRFA’s official website(s) for specific information about UAE sponsor visa .

UAE FAMILY VISA – AN OVERVIEW

In 2022, the UAE government announced major changes to its visa policy. Among the changes announced were amendments to the family sponsorship policy for expatriates in the UAE. After changes in rules for a family visa in the UAE, the government announced that residents could sponsor their sons up to 25 years of age.

UAE FAMILY VISA RULES

The family visa UAE rules state that the educational background or profession will not be a condition based on which family visas will be handed out.

Instead, the income of the residents looking to sponsor their family visas will be considered. So, regardless of your job designation, you can sponsor family members if you have the financial means and a valid visa. However, before taking the plunge, check your UAE visa status to know whether you can sponsor your loved ones.

Before the UAE family sponsorship policy amendment of 2019, only individuals from certain professions could sponsor family members. Since 2019, any male residents employed in the UAE can sponsor their immediate family members, such as their wives and children, with a minimum salary of AED 4,000 or AED 3,000 plus accommodation.

The conditions are slightly different for female residents in Abu Dhabi looking to sponsor their families. A woman should have a valid work visa, and her monthly salary should be at least AED 5,000.

In Dubai, a woman’s salary should be at least AED 4,000 to sponsor her family. She is also required to get her request approved by the GDFRA.

RESIDENCY VISA RULES FOR CHILDREN SPONSORED BY PARENTS

After amendments to family visa Dubai rules in 2022, expats can sponsor male children up to the age of 25. The UAE family visa rules remained unchanged for daughters. There is no age limit on how long parents can sponsor their daughters – they can be sponsored until they get married.

A bonus for this type of visa is that parents will not have to make bank deposits of AED 5,000. The new family visa UAE price will be AED 100 for first-time issuance and renewal.

Children with disabilities will be granted a residence permit permanently, irrespective of their age. Moreover, Green visa residence holders can sponsor any first-degree relatives. The residency of family members will be for the same period as the sponsor residence holder.

The visa for family in UAE regulations have been well received since they were amended and announced in 2022. The new rules continue to contribute to the stability of the UAE’s economy while building a cohesive environment for individuals to start a family in the UAE.

In Dubai/UAE, husbands can additionally apply for work visas on their wives’ behalf.

Step-by-Step Process of Applying for a Family Visit Visa in UAE

The family visa for the UAE is a form of resident visa that must be requested on behalf of family members who have already arrived in the country with an entry permission. The GDRFA is where you can submit your application for a family visa.

You must follow these steps in order to apply for a family visit visa UAE :

  • Get entry permit: If your relatives are already in the UAE, you do not need to do this step. Then, in order to begin the application process, you will need to submit an application for a change in status. If, however, your family resides outside of the UAE, you can begin by requesting a visit visa or entry permit. A single or multiple-entry visa are both options that will allow you enough time to finish the family visa application in Dubai.
  • Medical examination: You must begin the application procedure by scheduling your sponsored family members’ medical fitness tests as soon as they arrive in the UAE. A UAE medical facility that has received government approval must carry out this procedure. As a result, you can move on to the following phase once your family finishes the medical examination.
  • Emirates ID application: Then, go to the ICP website and apply for an Emirates ID . You can also begin the application procedure by going to a nearby AMER typing center or the relevant immigration authority. Here, you must have all the necessary paperwork for offline or online submission. Additionally, you will need to complete the application paperwork and pay the fees.
  • Obtain insurance: Health insurance coverage is necessary because of the high expense of healthcare in the UAE. But there are a lot of reasonably priced options to pick from. The majority of firms also offer medical insurance to their staff members.

  • Under some restrictions, the sponsor may care for their biological and adopted children, stepchildren, parents, and spouse.
  • Up until the age of 25, parents may sponsor their male child and their female child until they marry.

You have 90 days from the time you land in the UAE to apply for the resident visas of your spouse, kids, or parents if you are sponsoring them.

An admission permission is given to them when they arrive. About three months are given to the sponsor to turn this permission into a legitimate residence visa. To learn more, see our blog post detailing the distinctions between permits for entry and residency visas.

Benefits and Limitations of Multiple-Entry Family Visit Visa in UAE

family visit visa UAE

A family visa is a legal document granted for international family reunion. Typically, in order to be eligible for a family visa, you must have a family member, such as your spouse, parent, or child who is already living abroad and whom you wish to join.

The most important advantages of having this family visit visa in UAE are:

Live and work freely in the region: The most obvious benefit of having a husband or wife visa is plainly this. You can live here in the UAE if you have a residency visa supported by your spouse or partner. You have the chance to work in a reputable company in the UAE in addition to living there.

Easily obtain MOHRE approval: If you are employed and have a spouse or wife who is sponsoring your visa, your employer merely needs to get your labor permission from the MOHRE . If you have a job with a local company, that is. Although there is no restriction on this, the majority of free zone businesses require you to work under their sponsorship.

Change jobs more easy: You merely have to cancel your labor approval from one employer and apply for a different one since you have no reason to fret about residence visa modifications when you wish to change employment. Consequently, your resident visa does not have to be canceled. This appears to be faster than changing your residence visa, which can take more time.

The primary drawback is that the residence visa must be cancelled if your sponsor (spouse or wife) quits their job. Therefore, if your sponsor loses their employment, you forfeit the visa. If your partner’s employer does not pay for the family visa costs, you and your family will be responsible for covering the costs of the dependents’ visas.

Renewal Process for Family Visit Visa in UAE: Steps and Deadlines

It is important to remember that there is a duration of family visit visa in UAE . The type of sponsor and the individual being sponsored determine the length of a UAE family UAE sponsor visa. For one, two, or three years, it is issued. Renewing a visa is subject to requirements comparable to those for new visas.

The grace period following the expiration or revocation of an expat’s residence visa in the UAE has been increased from a month to 6 months. Therefore, foreign nationals have six months to leave the country or change their status and obtain a new residence visa. There are no penalties during the grace period.

Nevertheless, the UAE has just introduced a re-entry permit program that enables citizens who have been away from the country for more than six months to return by requesting one. UAE citizens who have been away from the country for more than six months will be able to return within 30 days of the permit’s acceptance date.

However, the dependents will become illegal occupiers and might have to pay a fine if the employee is unsuccessful when renewing the visa for their dependents during the grace time or before that.

The GDRFA – Dubai website allows you to renew your family visa by choosing the necessary service and supplying the necessary paperwork. UAE family visit visa renewal requirements must be in place in order to do the process:

  • Sponsor with valid residence permit.
  • Insurance card.
  • New ID card.

Exploring the Medical Insurance Options for Family Visit Visa in UAE

Health insurance  provides coverage for the costs of medical care and treatment incurred as a result of illness or sickness. For instance, if you are sick or hurt, you can purchase medical protection that will pay for your hospital fees. Pregnancy , pre and postnatal care, as well as a variety of other health conditions, are also covered. Several factors make having health insurance essential:

  • It guards against having to use savings to cover medical costs.
  • Provides coverage for routine medical exams and outpatient consultations.
  • It can provide you and your relatives with financial security as you manage some terminal illnesses.

Health problems might appear without warning at any time. Because of this, it is essential that you have a strategy set up. One that will protect your financial wellbeing while you take care of your physical wellbeing.

Consequently, if you want to sponsor your relatives, a visa services provider can be ideal for you. With their support, you will be able to obtain the proper medical insurance that your relatives need. This, in order to provide them with the family visit visa in UAE.

Multiple family members receive coverage by this family health insurance. Also, while the overall premium is more than it would be for a single policy, the price per person is typically lower. Your extended family may be covered by some family medical insurance policies, allowing your loved ones to receive care without concern for expense.

Since having health insurance is a must in the United Arab Emirates, it is imperative that you understand what a family insurance policy includes.

Simplified Visa Sponsorship Process in the UAE: Your 3-Step Guide to a Seamless Start

Photo of Tricia Gajitos

As the Christmas season nears, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), yearn to be with their families and friends to celebrate one of the favorite holidays of Pinoys. Apart from this, the UAE has been a desired destination of OFWs seeking new opportunities, whether it’s for work, leisure, or family reunification.

Understanding the process of visa sponsorship and planning your journey effectively are essential for a seamless experience in the UAE. Here’s a simple guide to three easy steps in securing visa sponsorship and preparing for your trip.

Step 1: Inquire About Visa Requirements

Before embarking on your journey to the UAE, it’s vital to have a clear understanding of the visa requirements that apply to your situation. Depending on the purpose of your visit – be it for employment, family, or vacation – the required documents and eligibility criteria may vary. For instance, employment visas typically necessitate a job offer from a UAE-based employer, while family visas demand proof of relationship. Research and gather the necessary documentation well in advance to ensure a smooth application process.

In an online interview with The Filipino Times (TFT), Jannet Santiago, a chef in a five-star hotel in Dubai, shared that she was able to secure a three month visit visa for her daughter last year by complying with the needed documents, through the help of a travel agency.

“Ni-ready ko lang yung mga requirements and I make sure to coordinate with the travel agency para may guide ako sa process,” Santiago told TFT.

“Kapag nag-comply ka naman and authentic lahat ng documents, wala magiging problema. After three days, they can issue the visa,” she added.

According to Santiago, the requirements for the visa processing of her daughter includes a clear full page passport copy and a picture with white background, passport size or 2×2.

For her part, Santiago was requested to submit a copy of her residence visa and passport, valid for at least six months, and a guarantee form from the travel agency.

Step 2: Flight Ticket Booking

Once you’ve secured your visa sponsorship or received approval, the next step involves preparing your travel logistics. Booking your flight ticket is a crucial aspect of this process. Explore various options, airlines, and routes, and keep an eye out for promotional deals and airfare sales to make the most of your travel budget. Many airlines and online platforms offer competitive rates, making it worthwhile to compare prices and find the best deal that suits your travel plans.

Justin de Castro, a marketing executive in Abu Dhabi, shared with TFT that she was able to purchase an affordable ticket for her sister from Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ largest national flag carrier.

“Maganda sa Cebu Pacific kasi maayos yung service and helpful sila sa mga needs ng passengers,” de Castro said in an interview with TFT.

“Compared sa ibang airlines, lower talaga yung cost kaya pasok talaga sa budget,” she added.

You can also check out promos and sales of other carriers such as Philippine Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and other ticket agencies.

WhatsApp Image 2023 08 17 at 16.48.52

Step 3: Budget Preparation and Travel Arrangements

As you gear up for your journey, it’s essential to have a well-planned budget in place.

Factor in expenses beyond the flight ticket, such as accommodation, transportation within the UAE, dining, sightseeing, and shopping. Research the cost of living in your destination city and consider your preferences for accommodations – whether it’s a hotel, serviced apartment, or rental property. Additionally, outline the places you wish to explore during your stay, ensuring you allocate funds for memorable experiences and attractions.

‘Ber’ months is just two weeks ahead (as of writing) and now is the perfect time to prepare if you plan to sponsor your family and friends in the UAE.

For Lianne Padilla, a data processor in Dubai, budgeting and planning are key to bringing your family in the UAE.

“Budgeting wisely and arranging our travel thoughtfully pave the way talaga for us to create both happy memories and financial peace of mind,” Padilla said.

“Specially now na malapit na mag-Pasko, nagbubudget talaga ko para madala ko pati relatives ko sa UAE. Naglilist na rin ako ng pwede namin puntahan na tourist spots like Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and yung mga public beaches like sa Marina,” she added.

Final Thoughts

Remember that staying updated on travel advisories, official guidelines, and entry requirements is crucial, especially in the context of evolving global situations. With careful preparation, you’ll be ready to embark on an unforgettable journey to the captivating landscapes and vibrant culture of the UAE.

The system to launch the unified GCC tourist visa will be put in place by the end of the year by the regional countries, said Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA) at the Arabian Travel Market on Monday.

“By the end of this year, the whole system will be in place. (We) are working day and night and e-service is a vital part of it. We don’t want to complicate things for people and also maintain the same security level. It will be a very good initiative and we will see a positive outcome for regional economies,” Al Midfa said during the panel discussion by the regional tourism chief.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE’s Minister of Economy, said the regional tourist visas would be called GCC Grand Tours and it will allow tourists to spend more than 30 days in the six countries that make up the GCC. "This will make travel to our region more convenient and affordable for tourists.”

“Once it comes into effect, it will contribute to highlighting the diverse tourism destinations in GCC countries, attracting and retaining tourists for longer periods, thus increasing the number of hotel guests and making the region one of the leading destinations for regional and international tourists alike,” Al Marri said after attending a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Riyadh on April 28 and 29.

Packages, aligning biggest events

Al Midfa said the UAE and other Gulf countries are working with large tourist operators, and companies to roll out packages that take care of the entire region.

He added that talks are underway with hotels and airlines to create partnerships. “As government, we create the right platform that enables them to create business. So work closely with the private sector we make it happen.”

He added that once the GCC single tourist visa is rolled out, companies and tourist operators will automatically roll out combined packages.

He added that as part of the single tourism GCC, the aim is to extend the length of stay of visitors in UAE. “People don’t go to the US for 2 nights. People go for leisure travel for 2-3 weeks and we want to combine the packages here within the GCC and make it easy and buy a package. We may need to align some of the biggest events in order to work out the timing so that there is no overlapping.”

He revealed that both leisure and business travel packages will be rolled out by the private sector once a single tourist visa has been launched.

Sarah Buhijji, CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, added that Bahrain is also working on packages for the entire region. “Visitors can come to Bahrain and stay 3 nights, then go to Oman and Saudi. We are promoting the entire region as one package. We have signed an MoU with Saudi Arabia to promote two countries as one destination and we are doing it with the rest of the regional countries,” she added.

According to the Minister, this will make travel to the region more convenient and affordable for tourists. It will also increase activity and employment numbers in the region, explained the Minister.

Rollout planned by end-2024

While the Minister did not state an official rollout date for the GCC unified visa, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA), who was also speaking at the conference, said the “system should be in place by the end of the year.”

“By the end of this year, the whole system should be in place. Many people and teams, led by the Ministry of Economy in the UAE and other ministries in other countries, are working on it tirelessly to make it happen in the best possible way, emphasizing digital transformation,” said Al Midfa.

“E-services are also vital to this effort because we want to make it easy, avoiding unnecessary complications. Simultaneously, we aim to maintain all the security measures. We share many common security measures (with Saudi Arabia) that will facilitate obtaining a UAE or GCC visa for all GCC countries,” he added. Al Midfa said the region has huge tourism potential and each countries’ tourism boards are working hard to convert it into ‘materialistic economic value’.

"I believe it will be a positive initiative, leading to significant contributions to our regional GDP within the next eight to 10 years," said AlMidfa.

The senior Sharjah government leader said that MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) sector would also contribute tremendously towards visitor growth.

‘Unlike the Schengen visa’

According to AlMidfa, the objectives of GCC-wide tourism are unlike those of the Schengen visa, which were ‘socio-political or socio-economic’. “Here, tourism is driving the initiative. So, we have to structure it differently for people to access GCC countries,” he said.

As business travel entails a higher spend per person than leisure travellers, typically three times more, the packages offered to travellers seeking a GCC-wide travel experience must promote a diverse portfolio. AlMidfa suggested offering multiple leisure and business packages.

Tourism’s contribution to GDP

Al-Marri also said that in 2021, international spending in the GCC will capture 35 per cent of the market. “The travellers' footprint across our lands contributed $109 billion to the total GDP of the GCC economies, highlighting a robust rebound and potential that tourism holds as a cornerstone for economic development,” he said.

He also said that in 2023, the UAE’s tourism sector has surpassed expectations. The Minister cited the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) research and stated that travel and tourism contributed 11.7 per cent to the UAE’s GDP last year, amounting to Dh220 billion. “The forecast is set even higher, with an anticipated contribution of 12 per cent to our GDP, equating to Dh236 billion,” he added.

“I believe that our regional ambitions should not be to recover to pre-pandemic benchmarks but exceed them merely,” said Al Marri.
