18 Best Restaurants for Vegan Food in Denver

In the past, my favorite thing about Denver was its access to the Rocky Mountains, but now, my favorite thing about the Mile High City is the number of fabulous vegan restaurants!

From the staple plant-forward restaurants that opened years ago to the fantastic newbie vegan spots, Denver is undoubtedly on the map when it comes to top cities for vegan and vegetarian options.

If you’re wondering what kinds of restaurants I think are the best, rest assured, there is a great mix! I’ve included everything from casual vegan comfort food to more eclectic and creative plant-based dining.

So, join me on a Mile-High vegan adventure through the city’s most delicious plant-based and vegetarian restaurants. Whether you live in Denver or swing through on your way to a Colorado ski resort in the Rockies (check out the vegan options in Aspen if you’re headed that way), you’ll find options for mac-n-cheese, plant-based sushi, a hearty burger and fries, and much more.

Is Denver a Good City for Vegans?

Yes! Even with so many ranches spread across the city, many forward-thinking restauranteurs and passionate veggie lovers have poured their heart and passion into the Denver vegan restaurant scene. In addition to that, vegan choices continue to increase in Denver every single year!

Can’t Miss Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurants in Denver

#1 watercourse foods.

837 East 17th Avenue, Denver

Highlights: One of the first vegan restaurants on the scene in Denver! It is a casual, friendly spot with a creative, diverse menu.

One of my favorite things on the menu at Watercourse Foods is the BBQ jackfruit sandwich with smoked jackfruit, BBQ sauce, black pepper aioli, and pickles. This sandwich is one of the reasons I return again and again, and a side of mac-n-cheese is always a part of my order. My other favorite dish on the menu is the Caesar salad. I ordered this salad topped with blackened tofu, and it’s simply perfect! Fresh local ingredients create a fantastic menu that includes Southern fried cauliflower chicken, quinoa stir-fry, house-made burgers, and tasty salads.

#2 City O’ City

206 E 13th Ave, Denver

Highlights: Very eclectic, hip spot for vegan comfort food. City O’ City has artsy decor, a fun menu, and an approachable, welcoming vibe.

The soft pretzels with mustard have my heart at City O City. They are even better when you add sauerkraut and vegan cheese for the perfect little dish! In addition to that, the Buff Wrap is also one of my special favorites, featuring buffalo seitan wings, onion, tomato, green leaf lettuce, and ranch dressing.

City O’ City is another Denver classic establishment, serving vegetarian and vegan comfort food in an eclectic space. The menu ranges from chick’n & waffles to kimchi noodles and everything in between. All ingredients are fresh, and the menu is creatively designed to satisfy all cravings. City O’ City features local artists and proudly supports the local Denver community.

#3 Vital Root

3915 Tennyson St, Denver

Highlights: Healthy, nutritious approach to fast and casual dining. An extensive menu that combines health and flavor for a delightful experience!

My choice at Vital Root is to enjoy the unique tangy flavors of the Korean stir-fry made with lemongrass tofu, mung beans, and mushrooms. Or, for something green, I will choose the Vital Cobb with plant-based chicken, greens, umaro seaweed bacon, and dates.

Vital Root is one of 6 restaurants in Denver owned and operated by the Edible Beats group, known for veggie-forward fare and responsibly grown and innovatively sourced. Trust me; it’s hard to choose between cashew queso nachos, Korean BBQ veggie wings, and banh mi tacos prepared with lemongrass tofu — you’ll need multiple visits to Vital Root.

#4 Somebody People

165 S Broadway #104, Denver

Highlights: Off the beaten path location but well worth the trip! Thoughtful and delicious vegan menu in a cute, energetic restaurant.

Arancini with tomato and garlic aioli sounds simple, yet it was my favorite dish! Slow-braised cabbage with white soy cream and burnt jalapeno emulsion is also a stunning choice at Somebody People.

Somebody People is one of the most unique plant-based menus I’ve experienced. This menu is creative, delicious, and fun, from locally roasted carrots with salsa verde to blue oyster mushrooms with creamy polenta that go perfectly with their natural wine selection. Somebody People has a unique, energetic, and welcoming vibe.

Another must-try is The Godfather, with house-made Tuscan sauce, gouda-style cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, giardiniera, and green leaf lettuce. Not only are the burgers oozing with flavor, but the sides are also not to be missed — cheese fries, wings tossed in your favorite sauce, and salads are hearty and delicious.

#6 Vegan Van

The Assembly, 3900 Elati St, Denver

Vegan Van grew its following as a small, quirky veggie van with yummy casual fare. Now, they have a full menu of flavorful vegan pizza, salad, sides, and treats to choose from at their location inside The Assembly. One popular choice is the buffalo chick’n pizza with buffalo sauce, chick’n, cheese, red onion, parsley, and a ranch swirl. On top of pizza, you will also want to try their pulled chick’n sandwich with your choice of sauce, including spicy buffalo, Carolina Gold, or sweet & spicy BBQ. Toss in a side of tots for fun!

Wellness Sushi came on the scene in 2019 as a mobile eatery and then grew into a small store in 2021, becoming Denver’s first entirely plant-based sushi restaurant . Their menu features fish-less sushi with various tempura, green onion, cucumber, spicy sauces, and much more! In addition to sushi, you’ll also find ramen, rice bowls, and small plates. Try the shrimp tempura, Wellness’s krab salad, and cucumber tempura crisps with spicy sauce to start!

But another must-try includes the Chipotle Burger made with chipotle black beans topped with organic guacamole, pickled jalapenos, and chipotle mayo! And, it’s not just burgers! Dip into their Chik’n Bacon Ranch Burger or a Buffalo Chik’n Burger with house-made coleslaw, organic dill pickles, and creamy ranch.

#11 V Revolution

Highlights: Plant-based restaurant with a mission to improve the global environment through food and features a delicious Asian-fusion menu.

V Revolution aims to diminish humanity’s impact on our global environment. They hope to inspire conscious choices by offering inventive vegan dishes to help create a more sustainable future. I suggest you start with the orange Chickin’ Bao Buns, then add drunken noodles made with bell peppers, bamboo shoots, onions, carrots, bean sprouts, and basil!

#12 Native Foods

680 S. Colorado Blvd, Glendale, CO

Highlights: Yummy casual vegan comfort food in a fast-food-type setting.

Native Foods is a fast-casual vegan restaurant with a diverse menu that includes burgers, Buddha bowls, large salads, and more. It’s the perfect spot when you only have a little time and need to grab a quick bite. One of my favorites is the BBQ brisket burger because of its flavorful BBQ sauce, fried onion rings, and southern slaw.

The best part about the Linger menu is that it’s tapas-style. Bring your friends and share all the plates that sound yummy! One of my favorites is the SSamjang tofu, cooked on a grill and served with miso, gochujang, sesame, and scallion pistou. Another dish I love is pad Thai, served vegan with sprouts, scallions, peanuts, and fish-free sauce.

Linger is my all-time favorite restaurant in Denver when I’m dining with friends who are not vegan. The diverse menu and excellent vegan options make it perfect for everyone. Linger is very open to making dishes vegan (if possible), and they have an impressive vegan list of delicious dishes.

#15 Sputnik

3 S Broadway, Denver

Highlights:  A colorful and energetic restaurant serving casual fare with a great vegan menu that includes sandwiches, wraps, and bowls.

Sputnik is another one of Denver’s very eclectic restaurants with a casual and youthful vibe. They aren’t fully vegan but have an impressive vegan menu with creative flavors. Being vegan or vegetarian used to be considered an alternative lifestyle. Not anymore. In response to a broad shift toward more plant-based diets—for personal and environmental health reasons—almost every restaurant you visit these days has a selection of vegan or vegetarian (or dairy-free or gluten-free) offerings. Of course, that’s not a new idea here in Denver:  Watercourse Foods  and  City, O’ City —the city’s OG plant-based spots—were founded way back in 1998. Since then, plenty of other vegan/vegetarian eateries have opened. Here, we’ve rounded up some of our favorites from across the metro area so you can expand your options next time the hunger pangs hit.

Bang Up to the Elephant

Denver vegan restaurant storefront with bird mural.

Capitol Hill is an eccentric neighborhood, yet  Bang Up to the Elephant  still manages to stand out. The tiki theme starts at the mural-covered front entrance and continues past the eight-foot-tall fountain to the back wall covered in hundreds of tropical plants and onto the menu. But first: the cocktails. Our palates appreciate that they’re classified from less to more sweet and that the classics—the piña coladas and rum punches of the world—share space with more inventive options, like the Devil’s Claw’s combo of rye, cream of coconut, and Chinese five-spice. The food is an enticing blend of Caribbean, African, Chinese, Indian, and Southern American influences, so expect the unexpected. To wit: The menu spans from potato and plantain mofongo to lo mein to a seitan Cubano. Just go with it. It’s all part of the fun at one of the city’s most playful eateries.  1310 N. Pearl St.

The Corner Beet

Corner Beet

We’ve long relied on the Corner Beet  for a caffeine boost, a healthy bite, and a comfortable place to catch up with a friend (or our inbox). Its bountiful vegan/vegetarian menu is full of scratch-made eats, cold-pressed juices, and smoothies; vegans will be happy to see the enticing selection of fresh-baked pastries. The casual corner spot is simultaneously trendy—as evidenced by its superfood lattes and fancy toasts—and homey, with its chalkboard signs and copious plants. In the spring, the cafe relaunched an evening food and cocktail program. Swing by Thursday through Sunday for Mediterranean-inspired bites and cocktails like the tequila- and citrus-forward Emerald Bijoux. 1401 N. Ogden St.

The Easy Vegan

vegan food tour denver

We’ve been singing this queer-owned pop-up kitchen’s praises for a while (its crave-worthy loaded elote baked potato was featured on our 2021 list of the “ Best 45 Dishes to Eat in Denver Right Now ”), and now the rest of the country is catching up. In July, the Easy Vegan took the top prize on the Food Network’s  Great Food Truck Race . Owners Alexi Mandolini and Taylor Herbert say they’re going to put their $50,000 winnings toward a brick-and-mortar bar and restaurant. While we all wait for that to come to fruition, we can enjoy their comforting pasta, pierogis, and oatmeal cream pies during regular mobile kitchen pop-ups, including at seasonal farmers’ markets. Tip: Keep an eye on Instagram for announcements about upcoming prix fixe dinners. Find the food truck’s weekly schedule  here —including regular visits to the City Park and South Pearl Street farmers’ markets.

Fellow Traveler

vegan food tour denver

Fellow Traveler  is the spot to try something new: Singani, aguardiente, or zwack, anyone? (Don’t fret: The menu explains what each spirit is, and the staff will help you out, too.) The off-the-beaten-path bar’s menu of global spirits may be what first drew us in the door—they also serve more familiar cocktails including trendy spritzes and zero-proof selections—but the laid-back vibe and concise menu of about a dozen vegan dishes are what keep us coming back. Fried cornbread, chilaquiles, and the creamy fried avocado tacos are all tasty. Don’t miss weekend brunch…or owner Joe Phillips’ limoncello.  3487 S. Broadway, Englewood

Root vegetable Reuben sandwich at Gladys. Photo by Riane Menardi Morrison

The motto at  Gladys , a food stall inside  Edgewater Public Market , is “plants forever.” The fine-dining quality of chefs Rocky Hunter and Dave Grant’s grub certainly has us agreeing with the sentiment. The menu reflects the current growing season, and the team cultivates many of their ingredients themselves. What does that mean for your lunch or dinner? A green curry caprese with Colorado cucumbers, mango, and coconut yogurt. Orecchiette with sweet corn and white miso. A play on a Reuben sandwich in which celery root is treated like pastrami. Fresh cookies. You really can’t go wrong. Honestly, the menu is small enough that you can try everything if you bring a couple of friends along.  5505 W. 20th Ave., Edgewater

There’s no shortage of good slices on Colfax Avenue, but that hasn’t stopped Mora Pizza from developing a following of regulars who crave an authentic tasting pie and overstuffed cannoli. Since early 2023, third-generation pizza maker Jonathan Mora—he’s got New York credentials—has served his thin-crust creations out of a shared kitchen with Pita Grill; over the summer, he purchased a food truck, which will begin operations on the same block in the fall. There, you’ll be able to order pepperoni pizzas that are good enough they’ll trick even committed omnivores, vegan mozzarella sticks, and whatever the special of the day is (if you’re lucky, it’ll be Roma tomato–topped white pizza and fried Oreos). 911 E. Colfax Ave.; follow Mora on Instagram for updates on the forthcoming food truck

Smoothie bowls are nothing new in fitness-obsessed Colorado, but what sets Natuur  apart is its customizable menu. For the bowls, diners get to choose their base (açai, protein-amped cherry, dragon fruit, mango majik, or super green—or a mix of two), three fruit and two dry (like hemp seeds or cocoa nibs) toppings, and a drizzle (peanut butter, honey, you get the idea). Our advice after multiple visits: Let the base melt a little before you dig in for optimum flavor. The menu also features a variety of coconut milk-based smoothies, healthy toasts, oatmeal, and a salad. 3712 W. 32nd Ave.; 1525 Raleigh St., Unit 110

We love salads and veggie bowls as much as the next person (truly), but sometimes you just want to indulge in good ol’ comfort food. On that front,  So Radish  delivers. The Olde Town Arvada restaurant serves a menu—including brunch! —chock-full of dishes you actually want to eat: chick’n and waffles, green chile cheeze fries, mushroom cheezesteak, chickpea salad sandwich. (For the record, they have yummy salads, too.) It’s all served in a rad space where the walls are covered in murals, and booze for the delicious lineup of cocktails sits on neon, sunglass-shaped shelves. The thoughtful drinks menu includes gluten-free beers, ciders, kombucha, and even vegan wine. Don’t miss the “Secret Level” arcade in the back, where guests can order off a secret menu and enjoy happy-hour-priced drinks while playing retro games. 5711 Olde Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada

Somebody People

vegan food tour denver

From the teal-and-pink beachy decor to the brightly hued cocktails to the seasonal, Mediterranean-influenced menu,  Somebody People  is a place people want to hang out—whether they’re plant-based or not. We can pretty much guarantee that herbivores and omnivores alike will dig the menu. It’s fun and creative (for example: Sunday Supper, a $38, six-course meal is developed around whatever ingredients remain in the kitchen at week’s end) and, most importantly, delicious. You won’t find any of those “faux meats” here. Instead, nosh on house-made pastas and whichever of-the-moment, fruit- or vegetable-forward appetizers are on the lineup. And save room for dessert; Somebody People swirls its own ice cream and makes ice cream sandwiches out of it.  1165 S. Broadway, Unit 104

Total Vegan Indian Restaurant

A disposable bowl of vindaloo with rice.

Plenty of the most common Indian dishes—including chana masala and aloo gobi—are already vegan, so it’s no surprise that plant-based Indian eateries are taking hold across the metro area. Among our recent favorites is Total Vegan Indian Restaurant . The unassuming strip mall spot is a bit of a drive, but the car time is worth it for the lentil-specked mango-moong salad, tawa roti (whole-wheat flatbread), laddo (fried dough made with chickpea flour), and saag. In place of meat, guests get to customize their entrées with two ingredients from a selection that includes tofu, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, and eggplant—which ensures you never leave hungry. 9563 S. University Blvd., Unit A, Highlands Ranch

V Revolution

vegan food tour denver

It’s time to make your way to Englewood to taste chef-owner Howard Wang’s vegetarian and vegan Asian cuisine. It’ll take multiple trips to try everything that sounds good on V Revolution’s lengthy menu, but we suggest you start with the black pepper mushroom bao buns, spring rolls noodle bowl, or hearty drunken noodles. Having trouble deciding? Check out the chalkboard near the register that lists the chef’s favorites and staff picks. Better yet: Bring a few friends and enjoy the meal family-style.  3570 S. Logan St., Englewood

A school cafeteria isn’t exactly a vegan paradise. At least, it wasn’t before Vegan Van opened its brick-and-mortar at Assembly Student Living. The food truck brought its fast-food-inspired menu to the Globeville housing community in January. Almost everything is made in-house, from the seitan chorizo in the breakfast burrito (get a side of Taco Bell–esque fire sauce) to the sour cream on the Crunchwrap Supreme. The eats have been so popular that Vegan Van was invited to take over the entire dining hall space. Dig in at the pizza counter or grab some vegan delights to go at O’s Market, which is stocked with everything from cheese to pancake mix to frozen goods. Coming in the fall: a coffee stall. 3900 Elati St.

Vital Root  is one of Denver’s most approachable plant-based eateries. The lush, all-day space sits on the popular Tennyson Street drag, and its fast-casual menu sprouts from the imaginative brain of Justin Cucci (the restaurateur behind  Linger  and  El Five ). Here, you’ll find cashew queso nachos, fava bean falafels, a Reuben made from root vegetable “pastrami,” and banh mi tacos composed with edamame pâté (our personal favorite). There’s a kids’ menu, too. Plus, smoothies, coffee drinks, and a tight lineup of boozy options. If you manage to walk out the door without a peanut butter-tahini cookie, you’ve got more willpower than we do.  3915 Tennyson St.

Wellness Sushi

vegan food tour denver

Have a hankering for sushi? It’s probably one of the most difficult cravings for plant-based eaters to satisfy. Thankfully, chef Steven Lee has figured out the recipe at  Wellness Sushi . In place of fish, his inventive—and tasty—lineup of rolls relies on a range of ingredients. Eggplant takes the place of freshwater eel, for example, while konjac, a root vegetable which can be powdered and turned into a jelly, is battered and fried to mimic shrimp tempura. Our go-tos are the Bang Bang Broccoli Don paired with the Dancing Green Roll, which stars perfectly crunchy squash tempura. The menu also includes an array of other classic Japanese dishes, such as ramen (gluten-free options are available), donburi, and onigiri, a sushi-like sandwich made with OmniPork Spam and Just Egg tamagoyaki. Trust us: You won’t miss the fish (too much).  2504 E. Colfax Ave.

2021 Denver Vegan Food Tour

Jul 18 2021 Denver Vegan Food Tour

Got back to my favorite city after a 3-year hiatus. And a lot has changed! But all my favorite places are still just as great, if not better! Below I have linked all the restaurants I went to and LOVED, along with what I ordered! I have also shared my google map at the end with all the places I found with good plant-based options, more thrifting, and shops! Some of them I didn’t get to, but if you have the opportunity to check them out let me know what you thought!!

First on the list is none other than Vital Root. Hands down my favorite restaurant in the city and a must-visit. If you listen to any of my recommendations, this is the one I would suggest the most. It is a 100% gluten-free restaurant and pretty much everything on the menu can be made vegan. They have great substitutions for scrambled eggs and things like that. I went TWICE during this trip and this is what I ordered in the order of how much I recommend it. Number one, the Korean BBQ Veggie Wings ! They are battered and fried cauliflower and broccoli wings with an incredible hot sauce and ranch for dipping! Such a good appetizer to start with and maybe share if you are feeling generous. Next is the Sweet Potato Pancakes . They are probably the best gf & vegan pancakes I’ve ever had. So much flavor and they have a purplish hue to them which is fun! Served with some unique toppings of popcorn and burnt maple whip! Those are on the brunch menu so make sure you get there between 11-2. If you are a fan of falafel like me, I definitely recommend trying theirs! It is some of the best I’ve tried yet. So light and fluffy inside with a crisp crust on the outside. You can get it as a side or if you want to have it as a meal, you can get the Falafel Wrap ! It has a delicious gluten-free naan wrap with roasted tomatoes and tzatziki sauce! I am always a fan of noodle dishes so I had to try the Pad Thai . It was packed with veggies and was on a bed of a spicy chili sauce. So fresh and the flavors were on point! If you are looking for a bowl, the Siagon Bowl was really yummy. It has lemongrass tofu, sweet potatoes, and just a bunch of goodness. If your a fry connoisseur like myself, you’re gonna want to try their Sweet Potato Fries . They are a great addition to pretty much any meal in my opinion. They are waffle cut, AKA the superior of all fry shapes, and come with their homemade ketchup! On to desserts, the Beet Brownie is a must. I got it both times I was there and it is just such a solid dessert. So moist and lightly sweet. Is more of a cake than a brownie in my opinion but regardless of its category, so good. Next are the cookies. The Peanut Butter Tahini Cookie is delish! If you know me at all, you know I like anything with peanut butter and this cookie is no different. It is more of a crunchy cookie so if you’re into that, you’ll love it as much as I do. And finally the Chocolate Chip Cookie ! Another great treat to grab on your way out (or on your way in if you are like me and like to eat dessert before dinner). It is a soft-baked cookie and is perfect!

IMG_0787.jpg

City ‘O City

This is a new place since I’ve been in the city but it is now one of my top favorites! Owned by the same people as the famous Watercourse, they are not all vegan but pretty much everything can be made plant-based. Tons of gluten-free options and good substitutes for things. I was there for Saturday brunch and tried the Chicken and Waffles which was to die for! It was breaded ‘chicken’ cauliflower and a delicious waffle with a savory sauce, carrot bacon, and maple syrup. Doesn’t get much better than that. They have a very extensive breakfast menu so if you love breakfast like me, I recommend getting there for their breakfast hours! I also had the Chophouse Burger which was amazing. Made with their homemade patty, mushrooms, and steak sauce. Served with really good fries as well. Make sure you save room for dessert because you are gonna want to try their soft serve ice cream called Wizards ! Basically vegan DQ Blizzards, they have vanilla, chocolate, or swirl ice cream, and then you can get mix-ins. I tried the Peanut Butter Cup, Funfetti, and the Cookie Dough . They also have a few other flavors that rotate I believe. I wish I had a bigger stomach to try more things on their menu but I will 100% be back! Their menu is pretty big with so many things that sound incredible.

IMG_2306.jpg

Watercourse Foods

Watercourse is such a solid place to go! 100% vegan with plenty of gluten-free options. Great outdoor seating and the menu is pretty extensive. I tried the Potato and Leek Frittata which is totally unique to anything I tried this week. Such different flavors and it’s a meal I don’t usually have. If you like messy sandwiches, the BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Sandwich is something you should consider trying! Jackfruit is hit or miss but they hit a home run with this sandwich. The bbq sauce is delish and there is a creamy slaw on it that is just chefs kiss. You gotta try the Mac & Cheese is something everyone should try without a doubt. You can add it as a side to one of the entrees or you can get it by itself. Such a good version of a classic. Their fries are also really good if you want to get that as a side too. As for desserts, they have delicious cheesecake which is always such a good vegan dessert to try. They have flavors that rotate all the time but we were able to try the Carrot Cake Cheesecake and it was so good! They have a HO HO Cupcake that is a must-try as well! Gluten-free version and regular :)

IMG_1169.jpg

Whole Sol Blend Bar

I love me some good smoothie bowls and this place delivers!! All the bowls are served in coconuts and the atmosphere in every location is so so cute! We tried the PB&J Bow l and the OG Bowl with added plant protein and peanut butter on top! We also tried the Vegan Breakfast Sammie which features Just Egg scramble! It was my first time trying it and I actually really loved it! Especially when it is on soft gluten-free bread and with all sorts of veggies! Everything is plant-based and literally, every smoothie sounds good. If I lived near one of these I would go there all the time!!

IMG_0622.jpg

Piante Pizzaria

Okay okay. THIS PLACE. You need to check out. It’s 100% vegan and they have an amazing gluten-free crust. It is mostly wood-fired pizza and everything on the menu sounds amazing and I hope to try it all one day! I had the Lasagna Pizza which has ‘meat’ crumbles, red sauce, and cashew ricotta on it. So so so good! Also had the Mr. White which is their take on a classic white pizza. Also amazing!! I highly recommend getting their ranch and some marinara sauce to dip the ‘za in! I also got the Jalapeno Poppers as an appetizer. Such good vegan junk food!!

IMG_1024.jpg

High Point Creamery

Ice cream is always a requirement for these vegan food tours and this place delivered! It’s located on the same street as Vital Root and in the mix of a lot of cool shopping so it’s a great place to grab a little treat. I tried the Coconut Crème Brûlée and the Mango Coconut Lassi which is a seasonal flavor. Both were delish. They do not have gluten-free cones but hopefully, that will change in the near future.

IMG_4389.jpg

Bang Up To The Elephant

Now I didn’t get a chance to go to this restaurant BUT it’s 100% vegan and everything looks incredible. The pictures that I’ve seen are so cute so I hope to someday visit! If you are in the area, definitely check it out and tell me what you thought.

IMG_0833.jpg

Allegro Coffee

One of my favorite coffee shops to visit! And this time I was able to fully enjoy it by writing this blog post there :) I am not a coffee drinker but I am sure it is good coffee since they roast the beans in-house. They have lots of teas though. I love a good iced green tea and theirs is really good.

Union Station

Lots of walking around to do and fun shops in and around Union Station and in downtown Denver. Lots of little stores and unique outdoor brands with showrooms there. Lots to see plus it is just fun to be downtown.

Denver Farmers Market

IMG_0874.jpg

The farmers market is two days a week and is fun to go to just to see what Denver has to offer. It is smaller than the Boulder farmers market but still fun to visit!

Peak Thrift

Peak thrift is a fun thrift store to pop into. It’s super close to downtown and you might be able to find some good stuff. Not as good as a buffalo exchange and not quite as much to look through compared to a Goodwill, but I found a Free People Dress and some cool Colorado University t-shirts. Also, they have an awesome Colorado mural painted on the side of their building to take pictures in front of. The thrift store is kinda a bonus to that :)

This is a super cool outdoor equipment store with cool hats, stickers, professional gear, etc. Plus they have a little second-hand/thrift section where they buy used workout and outdoor adventure clothing. I got a nice lululemon long sleeve for only $9!

The Yogi Exchange

IMG_0854.jpg

If you like good quality yoga clothes and care about the brands you buy, but don’t want to buy new or full price this is the place for you! They have tons of Lululemon, Alo Yoga, Athleta, Spiritual Gangster, Outdoor Voices, and lots of other big-name brands. Their prices are definitely higher than other thrift stores but the quality of the items is much higher. They also have a table with tons of crystals and rocks which is fun to look at and browse. Next door, they have a sister store with regular clothing like jeans and tops and dresses. Brands like Madewell, Free People, Anthropology, etc. I feel like it is a little overpriced but still super fun to look at.

Inspyr Boutique

This is a super cute boutique in the same area as Vital Root. Lots to look at and such cute clothes! I got a cute pair of sunglasses :)

Cherry Creek

This is one of the largest clusters of stores in the country and there is so much to explore. There is a nice regular mall with fun stores like Zara and then there are stores along the streets right outside the mall. Cool stores like Yeti and CB2, and then also smaller boutiques.

Best Western Plus

The Best Western Plus Executive Residency Denver-Central Park Hotel was actually super nice and VERY affordable. Since we wanted to go all over the place in Denver, we stayed in this hotel which was about 15 minutes out of the city. It was not hard to get in and out of the city to go back to the hotel at all. There are so many hotels downtown but it is hard to do research on the exact area you want to be in, plus they can be so expensive.

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater

I love love LOVE Red Rocks and exploring that area. It is so beautiful and there are lots of different difficulties and lengths of hikes to do there. It is a little touristy but there is a lot to explore. There are more popular hikes, which I try to avoid. I went to a concert at Red Rocks so I hiked during the day and then stayed for the concert. It was amazing and I highly recommend doing that if you are going to a concert there!

Somebody People

How many of you have made a messy stir-fry, sandwich, or casserole for the sole purpose of using the leftover produce from the week before? As unglamourous as it sounds, Somebody People has turned leftover meals into an art form by offering a multi-course meal for Sunday supper featuring produce unused from the week before—turning leftovers into luxury. This goes hand in hand with their zero-waste initiative.

Only open for dinners and weekend brunch, Somebody People’s menu is a vegetable-forward Mediterranean cuisine admired by locals and travelers. If you decide to visit, do not leave your reusable containers at home as the owners expect diners to carry out all leftovers in their own box.

Piante Pizzeria

No need to order from a fast food pizza restaurant when a 100% vegan pizzeria like Piante Pizzeria exists. All pizzas are made from scratch on a double zero crust—which means it will have less gluten—and are topped with house-made cashew cheese, plant-based meats, and veggies, all cooked to perfection in their wood-fired oven.

If you have specific allergies, you will appreciate that the menu has clear icons that notate whether the dish has gluten, nuts, or soy.

Make Believe Bakery

Make Believe Bakery specializes in allergen-free baking, making way for those who choose to remove animal products or gluten from their diet. Everything on the menu is 100% vegan, with a portion of the selection also gluten-free. The gluten-free options are mixed in a separate production room to avoid cross contamination.

Enjoy classic desserts like pastries, cupcakes, brownies, and soft serve, while also indulging in vegan versions of Ho-Ho cupcakes, whoopie pies, and sweet potato cinnamon rolls.

Watercourse Foods

Watercourse Foods is, no doubt, one of the vegan restaurants in Denver that is always at the top of must-visit lists of locals and travelers. They opened in 1998 originally as a vegetarian restaurant and transitioned into veganism in the 2010s, which is why they consider themselves the first vegan restaurant in Denver.

Located in the heart of Denver, Watercourse Foods is known for their vegan comfort food as well as their plant-based and scratch-made deli proteins and cheeses, which you can also buy pre-packaged.

Arrive hungry and indulge in plates like Loaded Truffle Fries, Seitan Wings, Chorizo and Grits, and Carrot Lox Toast. To try their plant-based meats, try menu favorites like the Smoked Turkey and Brie or Cuban sandwiches. For lighter meals, visitors can always indulge in a sweet treat like their House Soda Float, featuring their blueberry or strawberry house sodas, or their daily pastries.

Meta Burger

If you’re looking for the place for vegan burgers, it’s worth the trip to the south end of Denver to get a Meta Burger. Choose from a selection of eight gourmet burgers, six sandwiches, six shakes, and six sides, or a build-your-own burger option to create your preferred burger order. Even one of the blog writers at Happy Cow was excited to name it the best plant-based restaurant in the world !

The Meta Burger team hopes to expand in the near future in order to make plant-based food more accessible to the masses, with more locations in cities across the Midwest and other less vegan-friendly areas.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Denver

City, o’ city.

City, O’ City is one of our favorite restaurants in Denver and one of the first we recommend to anyone looking for a great vegan meal. Their menu is decadent, satisfying, and indulgent, and made with expertise that few restaurants in the U.S. can match.

Their Chicken & Waffles is a fan favorite, as well as one of ours; this dish features a crispy breaded cauliflower “chicken,” paired with a bourbon maple syrup, chive creme fraiche, and carrot bacon.

City, O’ City is open from 7am to 2am so there’s always a way to sneak a visit into your vacation or work schedule. Come in for a breakfast, latte, and pastry (by their neighbors Make Believe Bakery), and return in the evening for their BBQ Burnt Ends Tacos and a cocktail.

We also love that they’re a big supporter of the Denver community, sourcing coffee, beer, baked goods, and produce locally—they even own their own micro farm!

For diners in need of a more organic foodie experience, Vital Root is for you. They only use organic oils, unrefined sugars, and organic flours, and can make almost everything vegan by request with minor changes.

What we love even more about this affordable restaurant is that they support local farmers, as well as wind and solar projects, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Don’t leave without trying their Sunflower Risotto and Chile-Lime Yucca Fries with Grilled Banana Ketchup.

The Corner Beet

Another winner in Capitol Hill, you will find a welcoming corner cafe that’s as relaxing as it is inspiring. With walls covered by local artists and a bar accented by plants, The Corner Beet truly feels like an organic atmosphere in both design and menu.

The Corner Beet’s food and drinks are 100% organic, local, and mostly made in house. If you’re looking for a great place to fuel up before a hike, a long day of sightseeing, or a long morning of emails, their creative menu is surely a joy to explore.

We recommend going all in on their toast menu and pair it with a Matcha Chai or Horchata to wash it down.

The Best Vegan Options in Denver

True food kitchen.

Since our first visit to True Food Kitchen in Denver, it has become one of our favorite places to dine. First, we love that the menu works seasonally, so while there are menu favorites that stay on throughout the year, you will always find a menu around the best of seasonal produce. Second, they have a menu that allows you to feed those with different diets: omnivorous, plant-based, gluten-free, or fully vegan. Most of the meals are inherently plant-based so it’s very easy to eat here as a vegan, especially since everything is clearly labeled.

Across their rotating menu, we have loved menu items such as their Butternut Squash Pizza, Kale Guacamole, and Sea Buckthorn Sorbet.

Blue Sushi Sake Grill

Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a small chain located in nine states, with its Denver location located a mere three minutes away from Union Station. While the best vegan options in Denver are more often found in the surrounding neighborhoods, this restaurant is a great pick for train travelers or for those wanting to dine in Downtown Denver.

While Blue Sushi is most certainly an omnivorous menu, it is apparent that they are committed to creating beautiful, flavorful, and ethically-sourced options across their whole menu. All of their small plates are vegan by default, they have seven vegan nigiri options including bbq eggplant eel, tomato tuna, and seaweed caviar, and their vegan maki selection is stellar featuring 11 rolls. You won’t have to worry about ordering a plain avocado roll or cucumber roll here.

The 10 Best Vegan Restaurants in Denver

  • Casual Dinner
  • Jump to Map

There have always been vegan restaurants in Denver, one of the most forward-thinking and health-obsessed cities in the U.S., but with plant-based eating on the rise across the nation, even more are options are popping up and we couldn’t be more excited. These vegan restaurants have proven to be a much-welcomed addition to the city of Denver for both herbivores and omnivores alike. Seriously meat-eaters, don’t look away!

The restaurants you’ll find below serve up inventive, exciting, absolutely delicious food – not the plain old salads or veggie platters you might imagine when you hear the word “vegan”. So sit back and prepare to be hungry as you enjoy our compilation of the best vegan restaurants in Denver!

10. City o’ City

Look no further for the best vegan restaurants in Denver! Whether you're craving a hearty burger or a simple salad, this list has what you're looking for.

City o’ City and Watercourse Foods (keep reading) are under the same ownership, but both spots definitely deserve a place on this list as they each have different chefs, two entirely different menus, and both serve amazing vegan food. City o’ City has a more laid back vibe, with the option to just order a coffee from the counter, sit at one of their several bars, or take a table for a more traditional dining experience. Come in at any time of day (they’re open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily) to revel in their seemingly endless plant-based offerings. Your first priority when visiting City o’ City is to try their  “Chicken” & Waffles, a dish made with bourbon-brined, chicken-fried cauliflower topped with bourbon maple syrup, chive crème fraîche, and carrot bacon. Second on our list of favorites? The Pastrami Sandwich made with seitan pastrami on marbled rye. It tastes just as good as (if not better than) its meat alternative.

Look no further for the best vegan restaurants in Denver! Whether you're craving a hearty burger or a simple salad, this list has what you're looking for.

Hoja is a relative newcomer to the plant-based food scene in Denver but its owner has been around for a while with his food truck, Basecamp Provisions (which also offers amazing food). This hip little garden-style cafe serves up a fresh and inventive assortment of mostly vegetarian (all can be made vegan) and mostly Mexican food options. Get a breakfast burrito to go, or sit and relish over some Chilaquiles or Enfrijoladas (pictured) paired with a fancy drink or two.

8. So Radish

Look no further for the best vegan restaurants in Denver! Whether you're craving a hearty burger or a simple salad, this list has what you're looking for.

Step back in time at So Radish, a colorful new 80s-inspired restaurant located in Old Town Arvada, a short 15-minute drive outside of downtown. Sit in one of their turquoise, tufted booths, find the drink menu inside a VHS tape container, and hear Madonna playing through the speakers overhead. So. Much. Nostalgia! The entire menu here is vegan, and though it’s a little on the pricier side, they’ve got some fun, tasty offerings that make it worth it. We recommend starting with the Spinach Artichoke Dip and going with the Country Fried Steak (the side of cornbread that comes with it is a secret star!), Crab Cakes, or Spicy Peanut Tofu as a main, depending on your mood.

Carrot Bolognese Funghetto

In need of a nice night out? Somebody People is your place. This brightly colored, plant-filled, cute-and-cozy restaurant is one of the best vegan restaurants in Denver with its Mediterranean-leaning menu full of housemade pasta, risotto, and more. One thing we find really refreshing about Somebody People is the fact that you’ll never see fake meats on their menu. We strongly recommend their Carrot Bolognese, made with their funghetto pasta and paired with grilled-smoked oyster mushrooms and chimichurri sauce. It’s bound to be one of the most flavorful and unforgettable mushroom dishes you’ll ever have. Don’t forget to bring your own to-go container for any leftovers we doubt you’ll have, this is a zero-waste restaurant and they don’t offer disposable packaging (yay, Earth!).

Classic Vegan Burger

Meta Burger is perfect for those who still might occasionally crave meat but want to stay true to their plant-based lifestyle. An all-vegan restaurant, Meta Burger has a large menu with various burger and sandwich options, all housemade with a soy-based “meat” patty, veggie patty, or “chicken” patty. Their Flatirons burger, topped with shaved brussels sprouts, shallots, grilled mushrooms, and vegan gouda cheese, won Best Burger in America at the Seed & Wine Festival in 2018, and you’ll see why when you order one for yourself! Don’t hesitate to also order a side of their Meta Bites – breaded baked potato bites topped with bacon and chives and served with nacho cheese – for a hearty and delicious meal.

4. Wong Way Food Truck

Vegan

Undoubtedly the best vegan food truck in Denver, and definitely one of the best vegan restaurants in Denver, Wong Way is open year-round and with an ever-changing menu that’s so good, you’ll want to try everything at least once. Our favorite place to visit Wong Way Food Truck is on Wednesdays outside of Nooch Vegan Market on South Broadway, but you can also find them for brunch on Sundays outside Alternation Brewing Co, and other various spots around Denver (check the calendar on their site). If you’re lucky to see their “Fish” and Chips on the menu, you’ve got to order it, it’s bananas- literally- the “fish” is made with battered banana blossoms and has an extremely similar texture to fish!

Stacks of Vegan Power

If you’re in the mood for a grungy, divey type atmosphere, but still wanting some veggies that aren’t french fries, Sputnik is your place. Though they are best known for their vegan corn dog and mac and cheese, the brunch menu has some real standouts including their Stacks of Vegan Power, made up of two tasty little quinoa cakes and at first glance veggies, greens, avocado, but hiding underneath is a special treat of potatoes and a creamy garlic sauce. Yes, please! You must add on the chimichurri sauce to this dish because when has chimichurri ever done you wrong? That extra flavor profile is a game-changer. Sputnik’s entire menu can be made vegan with the exception of their grilled cheese sandwich. Definitely don’t pass up this hole-in-the-wall gem when you’re searching for the best vegan restaurants in Denver.

2. Vital Root

Vegan eats from Vital Root

Located on Tennyson, Vital Root is one of the very best vegan restaurants in Denver. From the same owners as Root Down, Linger, El Five, and Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox (other well-known restaurants in the area), this family-friendly, fast-casual, vegetable-focused restaurant has something for everyone with super flavorful and fresh cuisines inspired from all over the world. Their menu is 99% vegan by request, and also 100% gluten-free by request. It’s hard to choose just one thing from the menu (we’ve tried nearly everything and have never been disappointed) but the Kitchari Bowl and Sunflower Risotto (both pictured) are great for first-timers. If that’s not enough food, the Yuca fries or Cashew “Queso” Dip make for great starters. If there’s a long line when you arrive don’t be intimidated- it moves quickly!

Share All sharing options for: The Vegetarian’s Guide to Dining Around Denver

While meat lovers continue to have the lion’s share of dining options in Denver, next-generation vegetarian and vegan establishments are easier to find than ever before. From new-school sushi to Jamaican Jerk chicken to one Jewish deli’s reuben, there’s probably a vegetarian counterpart for it.

What follows isn’t an exhaustive list of the city’s vegetarian restaurants, but some favorite spots with dishes that highlight the freshest vegetarian and most deceptively delicious substitutes. Have another go-to vegetarian or vegan destination? Send us a tip.

Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant

Leaf, which relocated to a new location on Pearl Street last year, is the epitome of the healthy living ethos Boulder has long exuded. The menu is focused on organic, seasonal, and fresh ingredients, serving exclusively vegetarian fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mushroom bolognese, jackfruit enchiladas, and creole polenta are all p.m. highlights.

  • Open in Google Maps

Bold flavors on an almost completely vegan, fast-casual menu came to the Tennyson Art District courtesy of Justin Cucci and the Edible Beats group behind Linger and Root Down. Grab-and-go options are available, as well as weekend brunch and happy hour. Diners should save room for dessert and keep an eye out for the monthly raw pop-up dinners.

Spice Room | Neighborhood Indian Bistro

Opened by a few friends in 2017, a collection of family recipes combine with a fascination with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free cooking to produce one of Denver’s most vegetarian-friendly Indian dining experiences. Even the traditional saag paneer can be made vegan with a tofu substitute upon request. The sweet potato masala is a crowd pleaser, as is the mushroom saag.

Rye Society

A neighborhood delicatessen specializing in gourmet Jewish cuisine made using generations-old family recipes might seem an unlikely destination for vegetarian diners. Bt the chilled beet borscht, roasted root veggie bowls, and the kale salad are all good options for the meat-averse crowd. However, the pièce de résistance is the vegan reuben on house rye with marinated tempeh, vegan smoked provolone, homemade Russian dressing, and sauerkraut.

Superfood Bar

A New Orleans-based hub for vegan dining that opened in LoHi last year, Superfood Bar strives to source its ingredients locally. The menu is 100 percent vegan and gluten-free and packed with nutrient-rich items like red lentil soup and turmeric smoothies.

Uchi Denver

This James Beard Award-winning restaurant was one of the heavy-hitters has been earning converts to its inventive approach to Japanese cooking since it showed up on the scene last year. For those looking for a fish-free feast (and more than an avocado wrapped in rice), there is a massive vegetarian menu available. Highlights include the mapo dofu, which consists of fried tofu, shiitake ragout, and Sichuan peppers; and and the kinoko nabe featuring seasonal mushrooms, koshihikari rice, and egg yolk.

There’s nothing more American than an old-fashioned burger and fries, but the 2019 version is made from soy, seasoned in-house, and decorated with toppings like vegan bacon. The hot dogs, shakes, French fries, and nachos here are also all vegan.

Somebody People

Gourmet vegetarian dining is the focus at this new spot on South Broadway, where a tropical look makes for an appealing place to dine on seasonal favorites like grilled oyster mushrooms served with chimichurri and a funghetto pasta topped with a carrot-based bolognese sauce. There is also a selection of 60 biodynamic wines and coffee and tea—but bring your own to-go container (or purchase one from the restaurant).

Locals’ Favorite Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Denver

Herbivores, rejoice! Denver’s vegetarian and vegan dining choices are better than ever. Maybe you’re new to plant-based eating or maybe you said goodbye to meat years ago — either way, Denver’s vegetarian and vegan restaurants will delight you with fare that ranges from light-and-crisp creations to sumptuous comfort foods.

What makes Vital Root a standout vegetarian option is its inventive menu (take your time to peruse it all) and the fabulous back patio, walled in by vertical gardens. Vital prides itself on the fact that 99 percent of its food can be prepared vegan or gluten-free, and all of it is prepared fresh in its from-scratch kitchen. Just step up to the café counter to order (from staff who are patient with any dietary questions or requests for recommendations), then grab a seat for quick service.

Extra Yummy: The Devils on Unicorn (dates with goat cheese, coconut “bacon” and smoked almonds) are a favorite, as is the Sunflower Seed Risotto, which packs a healthy (and flavorful) punch. “Portlandia” fans: order the Safe Word Cacao smoothie, once you regain your composure.

WaterCourse Foods

“Ahhh, home.” That’s what WaterCourse Foods feels like if you’re a vegan or vegetarian. Close your eyes, point to the menu and rest assured that anything your finger lands on will be vegan and delicious. Fortunately, WaterCourse is just as welcoming to omnivores, too, with its cheery, sunny interior, gleaming bar and seriously satisfying dishes. On a recent visit, there were folks from all walks dining happily: a business lunch, a pair of hipsters, a table of what appeared to be Phish fans, and a police officer. Breakfast is served all day (yesssss!), there’s an ambitious craft coffee program, kombucha is on tap, and a full beer, wine and cocktail menu sweetens the deal. Serving an all-vegan menu since 1998, WaterCourse simply has it down pat, and Denver loves it.

Extra Yummy: Start with finger-lickin’ cauliflower or seitan wings and move onto the Macro Plate — the miso-glazed tofu is terrific.

City, O’ City

Sister restaurant to WaterCourse Foods, City, O’ City isn’t strictly vegan (though you’ll find plenty of vegan choices on the menu), but it is most certainly meatless and tasty. City O’ City emits an effortless artist/poet/punk-rock vibe. It’s not pretentious or put-on, and for that reason, it is beloved by Denverites. Sidle up to the weathered, wooden bar in the back, or sit below an illuminated icicle-like light installation in the front, and let the experienced wait staff point you to the right pizzas, sandwiches and entrees on the extensive menu.

Extra Yummy: The sinfully good savory waffle is topped with seasonal veggies and a gooey cheese fondue, while the udon noodle bowl, with its carrot-ginger broth, has been called “one of the best veggie bowls in Denver” by Westword .

True Food Kitchen

The entire concept of True Food Kitchen is to make “clean,” or “anti-inflammatory,” foods burst with flavor. And we’d say mission accomplished. While much of the menu does feature meat and fish, lots of herbivore options are clearly labeled as either vegan or vegetarian (and gluten-free, too). The large, bright and modern interior at this buzzing Cherry Creek location matches the vibrancy and freshness of its dishes.

Extra Yummy: Make it a strong start with the roasted Brussels sprouts and hazelnuts, then try the glazed sweet potato over ancient grains. Be sure to wash it down with a Thai grapefruit martini.

Corner Beet

With a dozen or so choices on the “Toast” side of the menu (choose from options like beet butter or goat cheese, fig and jam) to daily soups and pressed juices, Corner Beet is always fresh, easy and gratifying, with a focus on all-organic produce. A soothing space in the Capitol Hill neighborhood is framed in exposed brick and wood walls with well-patinaed hardwood floors — a warm, contemporary ambiance.

Extra Yummy: Your avocado toast addiction will only be fueled by the Capitol Toast, and when it’s a salad you’re after, you can bet the crunchy Super Seed is just the ticket.

Urban Beets

This new addition (opened May 2019) to Olde Town Arvada is about 15 minutes from downtown Denver and has people talking even though it had a low-key opening. The food is fresh, exceptionally flavorful and reasonably priced. Even carnivores are raving about it. What's unique is the ever-changing menu, allowing the chef to unleash his full creativity. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Extra Yummy:  Start your day with a bottle of fresh juice prepared by hand.

And let's not forget dessert

While this isn’t a dinner spot (at least for most of us), Snowlab deserves mention for their unique Taiwanese-style shaved ice (or xue hua bing ) — every flavor of which is vegan-friendly and naturally flavored. Choose from green tea, black sesame, coconut, coffee, pistachio, lychee, avocado, chocolate or Thai tea snow, and just ask the staff to point out which toppings are vegan or vegetarian. If you want the scoop on off-menu “secret” flavors to order, then follow Snowlab on social media.

Extra Yummy: Try the Thai tea-flavored snow drizzled with vegan condensed milk and topped with mango mocha. But part of the joy of this place is getting creative with combos that intrigue you.

17 Best Spots To Eat Vegetarian In Denver

Denver vegetarian food and restaurant collage

Depending on where you are, eating out as a vegetarian isn't always super easy. However, dining out in Denver while avoiding meat still gives you plenty of options. It has a phenomenal veggie restaurant scene, so there's something for every taste. Many places are strictly vegetarian, some cater specifically to vegans, and others are great for plant-based diets and meat eaters alike. From fast casual to quick eateries to chef-driven dining destinations, it has it all.

Technically, I am not a Denver native, but I've lived here for more than two decades. Plus, I've been a vegetarian for more than three decades. As a result, I've had plenty of time to seek out fantastic meatless options in the city. While the city has grown and changed over the years, the following restaurants are the best spots to eat vegetarian in Denver today. Check them out with your plant-based and omnivore friends and prepare yourself to be wowed.

1. Watercourse Foods

Watercourse Foods is one of Denver's most well-known vegetarian restaurants. It is 100% plant-based, and it's been around for decades. Conveniently, it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and even serves alcohol, so it's great for every meal of the day and all kinds of occasions. If you want something healthy and tasty, its scratch kitchen is ready to blow your mind. Thanks to moving to a new location a few years ago, its kitchen has never had any meat products in it either, so even the strictest vegans don't have to worry about any kind of cross-contamination.

A self-proclaimed vegan comfort food restaurant, Watercourse Foods serves delectable dishes that prove that plant-based food can be creative and utterly delicious all at the same time. In addition, they prioritize local vendors and fresh ingredients devoid of preservatives, hydrogenated fats, and artificial flavors and colors.

The menu features an abundance of classic dishes that have been reimagined for plant-based diets. Some of the most popular offerings include a Two-Piece Cauliflower Chicken served with two sides, a BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, a housemade Classic Burger, and a Cuban made from seitan. Whatever you choose, everything is made fresh, from scratch, and overflowing with flavor.

2. City O' City

City O' City is a coffee shop, pastry spot, restaurant, and bar all rolled into one. It's also the sister restaurant to Watercourse Foods and, in fact, happily resides in its original location. The menu is 100% vegetarian and features delicious dishes from 9 AM until 11 PM daily. The space features a funky, eclectic vibe that highlights local art, inclusivity, and sustainability, all of which make Denver's hippie hearts happy. It is also women, queer, and family-owned, so what's not to love?

Whether you're in the mood for baked goods, a yummy breakfast sandwich, a creative cocktail, a hearty veggie burger, or simply need a caffeine fix, Cit O' City has you covered. In the morning, stars include the Breakfast Burrito, Chorizo Hash, and Chicken and Waffles. Later in the day, Adobo Tacos, Poutine, a BBQ Mac Wrap, and various pizzas with creative toppings steal the show. They also serve lots of hearty, protein-packed seitan dishes, incredible salads, housemade burger patties, and some of the best french fries in the entire city. For most vegetarians and vegans, it doesn't get any better than City O' City. Considering they make pizza and still offer cheese, you may even be able to convince your meat-eating friends to join in on the fun.

Sputnik is an energetic bar and restaurant located in the hip, centrally-located Baker neighborhood. It pairs a low-key dive bar atmosphere with an outstanding menu of unpretentious food, making it a fantastic place for both drinks and a meal. It is open daily for lunch and dinner and serves brunch on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Thanks to the kitchen staying open until 1 AM every night, it is also a fantastic place for late-night eats.

The menu at Sputnik consists of tasty sandwiches, bowls, and a few snacks for both plant-based diets and meat eaters alike. However, almost every item on the menu can be made vegan or vegetarian, guaranteeing you won't be at a loss for options. The Mac-n-Cheese with crumbled Cheez-Its on top is a neighborhood favorite. The Banh Mi, which can be prepared vegan or with meat, is also exceptional. In addition, Sputnik's kitchen excels at making tasty dipping sauces, so their tots, regular fries, and sweet potato fries are extremely popular for anyone seeking a snack.

4. Little India

Indian food has always been a favorite of vegetarians, and Little India is a long-standing Denver tradition, so it's no surprise it earned a spot on our list. It offers a range of drool-worthy authentic dishes smothered in rich sauces and spices that both vegetarians and meat eaters love. Best of all, most of Little India's Denver locations offer a phenomenal lunch buffet, so you can eat to your heart's content.

Little India's menu features all the classic Indian cuisine you could want and more. It contains three versions of samosas, out-of-this-world stuffed naan bread, pakoras, and chutneys. There are also hearty paneer dishes and satisfying potato items in a variety of sauces. All of their creations are made with top-quality ingredients, so you can expect nothing but the best. Whether you enjoy a family-style meal with friends or come for the lunch buffet, narrowing down your selections on the vegetarian menu will be challenging.

Little India has six locations in the Denver area, including Capitol Hill, the Highlands, Downtown, South Downing near DU, Park Hill, and Lakewood. The one at 330 East 6th Avenue is probably the most iconic, but all its spots are worth visiting.

5. La Fogata

Mexican food is another favorite cuisine of vegetarians. Even so, finding an authentic spot that doesn't use lard in the beans or chicken stock in the sauces can be challenging. Fortunately, La Fogata is the solution. It serves authentic Mexican fare, and the sauces and beans are vegetarian, so you don't have to worry about hidden ingredients interfering with your favorite dishes. La Fogata has been around for over 30 years and is a fantastic place for all dietary preferences. The colorful, lively atmosphere is great, too.

With Chile Con Queso, fresh Guacamole Salad, Veggie Fajitas, Enchiladas, Burritos, Chimichangas, and so much more on the menu, vegetarians have a world of delicious options to choose from. The Chili Rellenos, which can be ordered soft or crispy, is a must-try dish. And, the combination plates are fantastic if you want to try several things. La Fogata also has an outstanding bar menu of refreshing margaritas that pair perfectly with spicy food.

6. Fire On The Mountain

Admittedly, buffalo wings aren't the first thing that comes to mind when people think about vegetarian food, but Fire On The Mountain is working hard to change that. It's known for serving traditional chicken wings but also offers amazing seitan wings and fried cauliflower. Both are drenched in their scratch-made sauces that have vegetarians flocking to their two locations. Aside from food, Fire On The Mountain features a music-loving hippie vibe and a fast-casual atmosphere that's welcoming to all. It is a fantastic place to meet with friends as the menu offers something for everyone.

In addition to its vegan seitan wings and cauliflower wings, Fire On The Mountain features an array of vegetarian appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and an incredible housemade veggie burger. So, you'll have plenty of reasons to come back time and time again. You should definitely try the wings, though. Whichever format you choose, you get to pick between 15 homemade sauces, most of which are vegan and vary in spiciness, so you're sure to find one you love. You'll also find beer, wine, and cocktails on the menu. Plus, it offers a range of weekly specials, including happy hour and $1 off plant-based foods all day on Thursdays.

At Native Foods, you'll enjoy creative salads, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, sides, and sweet treats. Their plant-based chicken and plant-based beef burger options are extremely popular. The Buddha Bowl and the Cauliflower Chickpea Shawarma, which can be made as a bowl or a wrap, are also top picks. Whether you enjoy imitation meat products or not, the menu offers plenty of options. It even has a kid's menu, which you rarely find at vegetarian restaurants. The convenient counter ordering system also ensures a hassle-free meal every time, regardless of whether you get your food to go or eat on-site.

It also has an abundance of seafood and meat options, so you can forget about your meat-eating friends complaining about having to eat a vegetarian meal.

Conveniently, Uchi features a vegetarian-specific menu, so you don't have to sift through the seafood and meat offerings to find what you want. Like its more formal counterparts, Vital Root serves globally inspired cuisine with a creative twist. On the menu, you'll find everything from Sunflower Risotto and Breakfast Falafel to "Chiken" and Dosa Waffles. Fan favorites include Banh Mi Tacos, Korean Stir Fry, and the Vital Cobb Salad. In addition to food, Vital Root features a coffee bar and offers yummy smoothies, cocktails, and cookies. This makes it a great place to grab a morning caffeine fix, sweet treat, or afternoon pick-me-up. It also has a great happy hour with food and drink specials from 3 to 5 PM, Mondays through Fridays.

It has a convenient Capitol Hill location, so it's close to the city's heart and has lots of hipster charm.

SubCulture's menu is massive for a sandwich spot. While much of it contains meat, they have an exceptionally large vegan and vegetarian section with cold subs, a breakfast burrito, soups, and salads. Even with all the fantastic choices, the subs are definitely the main event. They are made with fresh roasted veggies and rich sauces, and many of them feature tempeh, so you can count on them being hearty and protein-rich. The Veggie Reuben and Bangkok hot subs are exceptional, but there are plenty of other fantastic options, too. Every day, it offers $1 off two special subs, one of which is vegetarian.

Centrally located, the Corner Beet is an outstanding place to grab a fresh, cold-pressed juice, tea, espresso drink, or light vegetarian fare. The space has an open-air design with industrial decor, making it a perfect place to chill out in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. While there have been several different coffee shops and eateries over the years, its new iteration, The Corner Beet, is the best one yet.

Many of The Corner Beet's food items can be made vegan, but they're all vegetarian. Thankfully, this means you don't have to worry about cross-contamination from meat in the kitchen, even with the french fries. The menu features tasty sandwiches, salads, wraps, and creative toasts. One of the specialties is the House Toast with beet butter, honey, toasted pistachios, and optional goat cheese on local ciabatta bread. Another favorite is the Breakfast Sandwich with maple sage Beyond sausage, cheddar, spinach, egg, and vegan spicy mayo on ciabatta.

We offer private food and drink experiences for celebrations, team building or any other special occasion. Visit our Private Tours page to learn more.

We offer exchanges, credits, and full refunds up until 24 hours before your tour begins. Add on optional tour insurance for $5/ticket and cancel with a full refund up until your tour begins.

Upgrade to your ticket to the Downtown Denver Food Tour for an additional $26 or the RiNo Arts District Food Tour for an additional $30, and you’ll enjoy three alcoholic drinks paired with your tour tastings.
